Star Wars: The Station - Character RP - OPEN (OOC/Sign-ups)

Star Wars: The Station - Character RP - OPEN (OOC/Sign-ups)

Image

This is a more casual RP idea I had a while back and now Star Wars is on my mind again with the Mandalorian and Fallen Order, I figured it might be fun. It is intended to be a fixed location social/character RP for Star Wars fans and will launch if a few people confirm interest. Although set during the Clone Wars and in a location from the TV series, no knowledge of the series is required to join!

The premise is simple. Orondia Station - the grim looking little fuel station featured in Series 4 Episode 16 of The Clone Wars has come under new management. As the first stop coreward of Nal Hutta, it attracts a number of regular and irregular visitors making their way throughout the galaxy. Come and be one of them! Get into some trouble, or just have a drink and kick back with some sabacc. The story is what you bring with you.

All posts will be set on the fuel station, which sports landing platforms for at least 9 large freighters and plenty of smaller docking bays. The station has shops, a large cantina, and now a casino room built by the new owner along with a full suite of guest rooms and bunking quarters for anyone wishing to stay - though who wants to stay on a dark old dustbowl like Orondia, right?

Although the action will be limited to the Station, there is no reason you can’t find mischief to get up to if the idea of drinking and telling stories is too quiet for you, and I’m happy to help facilitate that with background NPC staff and visitors from all factions and none based on requests made here.

Feel free to create a character based on any of the pre-existing sentient species/droids in a galaxy far far away. All I ask is that you post your character idea here first, using the below sign-up and only post once your character has been approved to join, just to avoid any characters that are too similar to one another or are incompatible with the lore. We’re deep in Hutt space, so characters based on bounty hunter, smuggler, or wanted criminal builds will thrive, but as its a cantina - civilian types such as freighter pilots, musicians and gamblers will also make for some fun and different builds, or just be a Jedi Knight in for a drink after a battle in the Outer Rim. It really is up to you!

The RP will be set immediately before/during the events of Revenge of the Sith, so if you wish to have ties to any of the warring factions, such as being a Jedi, a Clone or a Separatist, you can do so. Dark side force users will have to be restricted given the era, but I’m open to lore-friendly suggestions. We’ll be following current canon and not breaking the lore timeline, so if your cocky assassin character swans into the bar saying he’s just taken out Count Dooku and ended the war, he’ll be treated like the no-good lying nerf-herder he is.

The other rules are simple. Firstly don’t speak or act for other players’ characters. Next, don’t do anything too overpowered (IE blowing up ships on the platforms/throwing the force around) without checking first, and if you get into a fight with another player character work out how it’ll go down here in the OOC, don’t just try and one-up each other in the IC; otherwise you’ll end up breaking rules 1 and 2 and annoying people. Keep posts longer than just a sentence if you can, I know it’s largely a social RP, and so their might be some shorter back and forth conversation posts, but try and use posts to tell a story about your characters. Descriptions, actions and thoughts are your friend and make it more fun for everyone reading. Please also do not post OOC in the IC or violate any of the usual NS rules.

Otherwise HAVE FUN!

Please follow this link to the IC thread.

So I know there are a few people who've reached out, who are coming up with characters and haven't had a chance to post here yet, but thought I'd give the OOC a bump with the character details for the station's owner, who I'll be using periodically throughout the RP:

Name: Natalya 'Nat' Sadaar
Age: 26
Species: Pantoran
Appearance: Ice blue skin. Slender build. Wavy, shoulder length black hair with blue highlights. Amber eyes. Traditional Pantoran skin-tattoo below her right eye; a gold outline of a single teardrop. Typically wears smart looking traveller's clothes and a black choker necklace.
Gender: Female
Profession: Semi-pro gambler turned station owner
Equipment/Weapons: WESTAR-28 blaster pistol, stun baton, custom sabacc deck
Pets/Droids/Companions: C1-45C ('Static') - An older C1 Series astromech droid named for its static-like beeps, the quirky droid is unusually loyal to Nat.
How you got to Orondia: Nat arrived via a transport from Nar Shaddaa, she does not yet own her own ship.
Reason for travel to Orondia: Nat won the Orondia Station when it was wagered in a backstreet sabacc game on Nar Shaddaa, she has now travelled to the station to ensure that business is flowing smoothly and to use it as a personal residence.

Bio: Natalya had a rough childhood, as her parents had fled Pantora after entering into a feud with another powerful aristocratic family after having already lost one child, her older brother, to the Jedi order. Nat was born on the refugee freighter that carried them to Coruscant, where the family were forced into a significantly lower quality of life than the one they had enjoyed previously on Pantora. Although her mother worked hard and ensured her daughter received a formal education, the loss of station sent her father into a destructive lifestyle which manifested itself through a spice addiction. Because of this, the family ended up in debt to at least three different crime factions on the galactic capital world and they went into hiding in the lower districts.

As a teenager in such a dark place, Nat learned how to fight and to sneak and steal from other lowlifes hiding in Coruscant's shadows, crucially she also picked up a penchant for card games and she put her skills to work trying to save up money for her family to buy their way off-world and start a new life. Sadly, she became separated from her parents when they were taken captive by Black Sun and moved off-world to be auctioned off as slaves. At first she attempted to track them down, using her credits to buy passage as far as Nar Shaddaa, but by the time she got there they had long been sold on and she had no idea where to search for them. Reluctantly she had to abandon the search, her parents' fate remaining a mystery to this day.

She fell back into her lowlife ways, living in rough conditions on the streets of Nar Shaddaa and increasingly relying on the one thing she was good at to get by; gambling. For a while she worked at a Hutt-run bar as a waitress and dancer, but she was fired after she was caught playing sabacc with some of the more lucrative clientele while on her shift. She did win her droid, C1-45C from a pilot during a game at that bar, and she found herself warming to it when it stole a sizeable amount of credits from the bar on the day she was fired. Despite this, her gambling skills had gained attention from one of the Hutts' enforcers at the bar, who was impressed with the way she seemed able to sometimes predict hands (she is not aware of it, but like her lost brother she boasts a relatively high midi-chlorian count which has given her a small level of force-sensitivity, aiding her in her card games). The enforcer offered her a room, food and security at one of Nar Shaddaa's more reputable casinos in exchange for a 75% cut of any winnings she made at the casino. She accepted and the agreement helped her to live more comfortably for a time, although she always secretly continued to play in backstreet games as well to keep her winning enough to live on after the casino's extortionate cut. During this time, she undertook a small number of extra assignments from the Hutts, fleecing certain marks and assisting Hutt agents and bounty hunters with their assignments.

When she won ownership of Orondia Station in a backstreet game, the Hutts were reluctant to release her from her contract at the casino due to her usefulness and the amount of credits she brought in for them, but a few bribes and some reminders of how much she had done for them did the job and got her off Nar Shaddaa without drama, allowing her to move to the station where she doesn't owe anyone anything, and where she hopes she will find a more reliable source of credits than the sabacc tables of Nar Shaddaa...

I'm interested.

For how long has Ms Sadaar been aboard the station?

Her arrival and reopening the station and it's cantina for business will be my first post launching the IC, so not long at all. What are you thinking? :)

I'm considering a Codru-Ji weapons dealer under Hutt contract for supplying small arms and light cannon.

That's a nice idea - Codru-Ji is very different so props for that!

If you want to have been tasked by the Hutts with setting up a weapons store on the station, there will be room for it. I'm imagining a sort of shopping mall/service station style hall on the interior that would house a number of stores and stalls, the cantina will merely be the largest of these while the bunk rooms and guest suites will be on the upper levels.

Given we're in Hutt space it makes sense that at least one of the stores would be an arms dealership, but it also wouldn't be a problem if you want to go more low key?

I've been wanting to use a Codru-Ji picture for a long time, lol.

I was thinking more under the table than a simple merchant. Supplying personal protection is a good cover, though, and it's likely she'll be using that. She'll be working with contacts in various CIS-aligned companies to supply the Hutts with weaponry and the like. Thinking possibly that she'll have a cadre of two bodyguard droids and a small group of Trandoshans. Was actually hoping that she'd already be set up on the station.

I like this a lot.

So - my reason for the original owner being willing to gamble away the station is that the owner and his brother (The Bith who run the Orondia operation in Clone Wars) got on the wrong side of the Hutts and the Hutts cut the fuel supply which basically stopped traffic from coming through Orondia as the station's main purpose was refuelling. I imagine that had the effect of drying up all the business on the station and that a number of the stores and regulars shut up shop and moved out.

If you want her to be one of them who has returned now the place is back up and running again though, that won't be a problem at all? Or she could have stayed put, but business would have been ridiculously slow for a while?

Once Nat arrives in the first post of the IC, the fuel will be restored and business will return.

This...this I like. Giving me so, so many ideas. Who else profits in a time of poor economies (relatively poor, that is) but the rich (relatively rich, that is). She'll run a little more than I first anticipated.

CHARACTER APPLICATION
Image

Name: Immils “Doc” Sudinia
Age: 35
Species: Codru-Ji
Appearance:
Standing at 6’4”, slightly under the standard galactic height, Immils is rather slender. Having the characteristic four arms, these are often bared and adorned with just a few bracelets and bands, pieces taken from one thing or another though many would believe them to be melted-down from her victims. The variety of such bands does, though, suggest other requirements. The woman’s blonde hair is kept as straight as it might, though it bursts in a halo of curls about her face, and her pale skin hails from many years indoors. She has a clear preference for simpler dresses, though never of a drab color.
Gender: Female
Profession: Weapons Dealer
Equipment/Weapons:Pets/Droids/Companions:How you got to Orondia: Via Paladin, GX1 Short Hauler
Reason for travel to Orondia: N/A
Biography:
Born on the homeworld, Munto Codru, Immils’s youth was as one might expect for a Codru-Ji. As a wyrwulf she was noted as being unduly curious in anything and everything about her, sentients withstanding that generalization. She was curious about the holodramas, shimmering in the air, curious about the few ships that graced their skies, and curious about the shuttles and speeders, but very rarely would she be curious about people. As she grew older, eventually metamorphosing into the individual able to be recognized today, Immils would display a mechanical knack for most things. She would repair, rebuild, and create herself, though of course such things were marked by the inherent flaws of youth, the primitive natures of such creations offset by the fact that they were actually creations and not mere purchases. A nearly self-taught mechanic, were it not for the efforts of some few others, it drew a sense of pride from the young lady.

At the age of eighteen, the young girl would be sent offworld to the Coruscant Scientific Academy to study such things as mechanical design, energy principle, and hyperspace physics, the last subject of which would be dropped for purely academic reasons. Of course, her parents were exceptionally worried that their daughter might be tainted of alien philosophies and ideas, that she would return a changed woman and would wish differently than as she left, but Immils took great pains to convince them to allow her leave. She wanted to know more, to do more, and to be a burden to no-one, to be indebted to no-one. They found the idea to be somewhat of a fiery one to begin with, though as none had yet made the attempt for a ritual kidnapping they felt that their daughter could go off and do this. And so, Immils went. Her time on Coruscant was some of the most nerve wracking, the long hours of study combined with hellishly loud roommates and a sense of hearing that went into the supersonic range giving many an unslept night. While she would battle these enemies with noise-deafening headphones, the lack of other Codru-Ji proved an annoyance at best, torture at worst, and for the better part of four years the young lady would find herself at odds with her classmates. They thought differently, many preaching the virtues of diversity, of strength in differences, and the arguments did little to secure Immils’s own views. It would only be at the end of her years in study that the woman would, in most ways, relent and accept some of the views of her opponents. In the end, this would prove her undoing and the Codru-Ji would leave the planet with a Baccalaureate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, in most ways a catch-all term.

When Immils returned to Munto Codru, her parents recognized that much had changed. Her posture had changed, her smile, her speech, and when they tried to speak to her as most spoke on that world, there was no response. In some ways, Coruscanti nights damaged the woman’s hearing on the finer scales, deafening her to hypersonic sounds and, overall, to the mere chit-chat of her parents, of the wyrwulfs. They talked to her and found that more change was there beneath the skin, that Immils was a bit more open to the idea of the other. Disgusted in their daughter, feeling betrayed and lied to, they forced Immils’s exile from the planet, from their family, and from Codru-Ji society as a whole. Outcast, she made the short jump to the galactic south, to Mon Calamari. There, Immils found work with the shipyards, found work with the factories, made connections there as much as she made blasters and small scale components. As the lady grew older, she began to branch-out, to make connections to those she’d once learned with, to make deals and methods. An innate sense of commerce drove her, the idea of a trade, of one simple thing for another and damn the law wherever it might claim to lay it’s hand. She made connections with Arakyd Industries’s technical supervisors, many of her former friends working in upper management with that corporation, as well as the Quarren engineers working on Pammant. Raw materials, metals, supply shipments moved from one place to another at discounted costs, in return rifles, droid technologies, and other products were sold on the black market. Through this method, Immils garnered contracts with various Hutt investors and businesspeople, individuals with which she could make a good enough profit. Eventually, she would quit her job on Mon Calamari as a low-level supply manager for better fields.

She would work under the Hutts directly, mostly under the Hutt Jabba Desilijic Tiure due to his powerbase compared to most others, and acted as a weapons procurer for the Huttese. For the most part merely an asset as far as contacting others in the weapons business, it was Immils’s job to ensure that the credits received were as well spent as they could be. For those services, she would receive protection, housing in Orondia Station, and payment in the form of 2,400 credits every standard month. In most ways she was quite good at this, netting even light artillery cannons for use against any pirate raidings that might occur without Hutt approval. It was quite a good arrangement for all those involved. That is, it was a good arrangement right up until the two owners of Orondia got on the wrong side of the Hutts. The fuel supplies were cut, the business dried up, and yet she didn’t leave. In fact, it provided simply a better reason to stay. Her ships never did stop at Orondia anyways, at least not for fuel, and her placement there was more so for the purposes of placing the Codru-Ji somewhere relatively close by. Immils found that a good many people had become trapped on the station in one way or another, losing enough credits through drinking or gambling that they had no way off. It would be these people who would get the glorious chance of being contracted out by the Doc, intention being to begin a minor protection racket aboard the station. Control in most things is desirable.

It would be these people who would get the glorious chance of being contracted out by the Doc, as well as her making the purchase for the local tapcafe. The intention was to begin a minor protection racket aboard the station, something Immils is fully willing to move towards.
RP Example:

So I'll need to keep the station's cantina for Nat and under my personal control as OP as it'll be the key focal setting for much of the RP and I am already working on staff and security characters to help facilitate action. Because the station is quite small I don't see there being room for a second one to serve as the Tapcafe mentioned here. Otherwise I am intrigued by the arms dealing mystery-alien trying to set up a protection racket, and very much like the character concept so will accept if you will compromise on giving up the tapcafe ownership?

I'm afraid that as I mentioned in the OP, we are following Star Wars canon rather than legends.

In canon Chiss have not yet had contact with the wider galaxy nor vice versa during the time of the RP and the species is completely unheard of outside the unknown regions. I'm afraid I can't accept your character in his current form. You will either need to change species or adjust the backstory dramatically. I'm also pretty sure a Mauser C96 isn't an appropriate weapon for a Star Wars RP, although as they are similar to the DL-44 (Han's blaster) I'll assume you meant that?

Happy to review again if you are open to making the changes described.

Uh...

Can I just state that I am using some Legends information in my application, namely the Armorweave, Crushgaunts, and those droid models. Then again the whole Codru-ji species is Legends.

Any Legends info is linked though.

I am aware hehe, but I don't see any issues with your legends stuff as none of it directly contradicts any established canon.

Hell, Munto Codru has found it's way to being listed as a canon planet which pretty much implies the canon existence of the Codru-ji, while your equipment and droids are all equally plausible without detracting from canon.

Personally, I do not see canon and legends as being totally incompatible with one another, merely that canon should take priority over legends if there are any direct contradictions or discrepancies, such as with the status of the Chiss; who are now canonically unknown to the galaxy during the time of the CIone Wars.

I am happy to include certain legends aspects in the RP if they add to the canon universe without taking anything away, and I see this as the case with the legends materials you wish to draw upon.

Thank you! Just wanted to make certain everything was good. Nothing more annoying than accidentally ambushing an OP with information that was present in the app or the fallout that comes after. Should be noted that my droids have been somewhat modified with the removal of their nonlethal preferences.

By the way, what's the population count for the station? Has Nat gotten news on Immils's operation?

No in fact they were not unknown. When I was very young I can recall a Chiss being in a book or clone wars episode.
