Your aid is greatly appreciated - however the Council of Ministers intend this project to be on a need-to-know basis as of current. Thus, the GDR would prefer not public mention of a "wall" or "barrier" to be built on the border; the official narrative currently is to deny such plans exist. The German Democratic Republic and yet to draft the full design of the border barrier and are yet to secure funding from other Comecon allies. The GDR appreciates your concern.

February 20, 1950, London, England

The day has finally arrived. The Imperial Conference between Britain, its dominions, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the colonies, such as Sudan, and protectorates such as Jordan, which became a protectorate in 1946. Representatives gathered from all across the British Empire, such as L. Dana Wilgress of Canada, Sir Eric Harrison of Australia, and Sir Bill Jordan of New Zealand. Prime Minister Clement Attlee will represent the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The representatives from across the Empire would meet in the Colonial Office where the discussions would begin. Attlee opened up the conference; "Welcome, representatives of the fine territories of the British Empire, back to London. Once again, our governments have undertaken to begin the Imperial Conference. So, who would like to begin with the first topic?" Sir Wilgress stands up first; "After discussing with my top ministers back in Ottawa, we would like to be sure that the Crown is willing to ensure the continued growth and stability of the economies of the dominions. Where does the Crown stand on this, Mr. Prime Minister?

"The British Empire has always been one of continued growth and prosperity of its dominions. As such, the Crown will promise to increase trade and procurement of goods between the homeland and the dominions. Anything that the dominions need, Britain will provide for them. What else?" Sir Harrison stands up second "I and the ambassador from New Zealand have discussed this, but what is Britain going to do about Separatist South Africa? They continue to be a thorn in the empire's side, and they should be dealt with immediately." A bunch of participants nod and agree.

"At this point, Britain's hands are tied on South Africa, they signed a declaration of independence from Britain in 1946 and is a recognized government in the eyes of the world. And, since their independence, they have not attacked any British possessions in Southern Africa. As long as they don't cross the border with hostile intentions, Britain can't invade the country. What's next? Once again, it is Sir Wilgress who stands up; "The governor of Cyprus wished me to relay this to the conference, but he thinks that we should sell Cyprus to one of the other powers in the region, such as Greece or Turkey."

"I do think that it would be best to sell Cyprus to a potential ally of the British Empire, but we will come back to that at another time. Now, it is time for me to add something, the Imperial Federation between Britain and its dominions. It would unify the resources of the Empire under one banner and would unify the governments. We shall vote on this tomorrow, that is all for today.

Czechoslovak Republic

After writing a long-winded reply that essentially mounted to an "Of course, comrade," Siroky leaned back in his chair and sighed. Yawning, he reached into the folds of his coat for a cigar. They didn't have quite the same quality as they did before, he remembered, the tobacco losing it's refined aroma in exchange for a rawer, coarser stuff. Another product of war. Not for the first time, Siroky wondered if re-establishing relations with the Germans was a good idea. In the end, it didn't particularly matter. The Germans in 1950 were not the same as the ones in 1938. They were a broken people, who'd seen the worst in themselves and recognized it for what it was.

A quiet but persistent knock interrupted his thoughts. Sighing, he tucked his cigar and lighter away.

"Yes, what is it?" he asked, feeling a bit irritated. He always got a bit restless when he hadn't had a smoke in awhile. The door opened, and a fresh-faced young man with piercing gray eyes and slicked-back brown hair walked into the room, wearing a tweed jacket and carrying a manila folder stuffed full of papers.

"Ah, comrade Adamcek," Siroky said, pretending to be happy to see the sniveling bureaucrat. "Come in, come in. Let me be the first to thank you for that report and analysis you sent me. We're on track to normalize relations with the GDR in, say, two years thanks to your economic plan. What can I do for you?"

"I think it's time for Austria, comrade," Adamcek replied, his eyes flicking to the window before returning to Siroky. "I want you to make sure that Gottwald gets the credit for this."

"That spineless fool?" Siroky said, a bit louder than he'd intended. After waiting a minute to see if anyone heard, he continued.

"I don't see why. After all-

"We want Gottwald to regain his spine," Adamcek explained. "Giving him credit, even if he didn't earn it, will boost his confidence, and hopefully put us in a position to pry him away from the Stalinists. If not, we can always set the contingency plan in motion. By the way, when is Zapotocky supposed to promote me?"

"Tomorrow I believe," Siroky answered, taking the first few puffs from his cigar. "I think he's gone and called a Party meeting about it too. Most unusual."

Adamcek's face clouded in confusion for a moment, then went slack went surprise. Shaking his head and muttering to himself, the young bureaucrat swept out of the office. Siroky thought he heard the man mutter 'that idiot...I told him to keep it quiet!"

Moscow Kremlin, Russian SFSR

Andrey Vyshinsky had returned to the Soviet capital following his meeting with the former chairmen in the German Democratic Republic. The weeks following the exchange saw drastic changes in the country. New "elections' were held, resulting in Walter Ulbricht wielding power. Vyshinsky and Ulbricht spoke minutes after the chairmen left the room, and he immediately implemented the changes the Soviets requested. The sudden border laws were bound to create discontent, but it was nothing the MGB or Red Army couldn't handle. However, the Foreign Minister had even more pressing matters that concerned him. The Defense and MGB ministers were all off to Korea to talk with China and Kim Il Sung on the future of the country. The United States sent their president, Harry S. Truman, to South Korea, apparently to appeal to the masses there. Vyshinsky was unconcerned about a possible US intervention in a conflict, and decided to let the matter go as other Soviet delegates visited Pyongyang. However, Vshyinsky did believe he could divert some focus from Korea to Latin America. The revolution and civil war which engulfed Guatemala was ongoing, and now was the perfect oppurtunity to begin one of the first proxy wars of this new era.

The Foreign Minister decided to try his luck by first gaining a direct line of communication with the rebels. He pulled out a typewriter and began sending the message.

To: Whomever it may concern in the socialist revolutionaries in Guatemala
From: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
Encryption: Top Secret

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics have been watching and hearing the news of the revolution in your country. We understand the struggle to create the ideal socialist paradise, and in order to assist in creating a more stable operation, the USSR is willing to begin to send military aid and supplies to your cause. We hope to hear back soon.

Pyongyang, North Korea

Aleksandr Vasilevsk wondered the streets of the capital city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Viktor Abakumov, the head of the MGB, followed him. These two men were among the most prominent in the Soviet political circle, and their meeting with the North Koreans would soon have devastating consequences on the peninsula and the world.

Praetoria, South Africa

Joseph Stalin began coughing as the MGB officers shielded him from any possible onlooker. The General Secretary's health had been decreasing since the end of the war, and he rarely appeared publicly or gave speeches. Doctors and other politicians were afraid to say much about Stalin's condition, as his paranoia and absolute chokehold on Moscow kept everyone in line. Today's meeting with South Africa would perhaps be the final time Stalin personally visited a foreign country.

London, England, February 21, 1950, 10 minutes after the vote for Imperial Federation

"All of the dominions are against the Imperial Federation, but we may can try something different, sir." "And what would that be, General?" "Continue to strengthen the British Commonwealth of Nations. If we continue to strengthen the Commonwealth, then we should be able to keep the empire united until we find a permanent solution. And, they didn't outright reject everything, they rejected to unification, but they will allow us to create a new status for Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, which brings them alongside Britain in lawmaking for the colonies and dominions, and they will allow for the creation of the Imperial Army of the Federation of Commonwealth States." "So, not a total loss on the part of the British Empire, I can't complain. Tell the diplomats that the conference shall be concluded tomorrow, and that I am withdrawing for the rest of the day."

Βασίλειον τῆς Ἑλλάδος

February 23rd

The biggest ambition of the Greek monarchy have been set in motion. The money from US Marshall Plan gave the government a unprecedented amount of money to invest back into the country. After weeks of careful planning between his cabinet, King George II have announced on radio that the Greek crown will set out a 5-year plan to fully revitalize Greece to return to it's full glory. The citizens were stunned by this unexpected announcement. Life in Greece was already on its way to recovery thanks to the recovering mercantile fleet that opened Greek trade throughout the entire world. Unemployment was low and houses were steadily being rebuilt from the destruction of World War II. Initially, many thought this would be a shortcut to speed up the recovery process but the more King George II revealed, the more people were in awe of the goals of the 5-year plan. The message finally concluded with a closing statement from the monarch: "Greece is and will always be the bedrock of Western Civilization, the heir of Alexander, and the birthplace of the first sciences known to man! The godless Communists have already attempted twice over to wipe out our history and way of life. In the name of our Lord and the eyes of the our children, it is time to secure our place in this brave new world once and for all!"

A railroad in every village and a university in every city was a slogan of the 5-year plan that was radioed nearly every day to keep the people informed of the "Greek Renaissance" as one newspaper article describes it. Prime Minster Papagos boasted in one public announcement that $400 million dollars of foreign aid is being invested down to the last penny building infrastructure, schools, hospitals, preservation of Ancient Greek monuments, and popularization of Classical architecture. Everything was built up with marble and stone in mind and even Constantinople was getting a face lift as all Ottoman memories were removed down to the last relic.

Privately, the Greek government donated a very very small sum of the foreign aid the HVS to boost their influence in Cyprus. $10,000 wouldn't be too noticeable in the ledgers and King George II convinced himself that the acquisition of Cyprus by 1955 would be a good way to conclude his five-year plan in flying colors. Any Greek Communists still hiding in the mountains would no doubt return as loyal citizens once they realize that Greece is better off not as a Soviet puppet. Even Greeks living in Cyprus were beginning to feel the need to be united with their native country. It didn't sit too with the Turkish population living on the island as the HVS used the government donation to set up small paramilitary groups in Greek communities and preaching propaganda messages through villas and churches.

February 23, Marlborough Lines, Hampshire, England, 11 AM

As Bernard Montgomery is working on a list of new generals for the British Army, Field Marshal Harold Alexander decided to visit him. "How's the list coming along, Monty?" 'Eh, coming along fine, Alexander. You want to take a look?" "Sure, why not."

Commanders of the British Army and the Imperial Army of the Commonwealth of Nations

As the last generation of commander in the British Army begins to retire, along with the formation of the Imperial Army of the Commonwealth of Nations, new, promising commanders must be brought into the fold. As such, the commanders on this list are to be promoted to General under the orders of Field Marshals Bernard Law Montgomery and Harold Alexander.

Sir Gerald Templar of the British Army
Sir Ouvry Roberts of the British Army
Sir Charles Keightley of the British Army
Sir Kenneth Crawford of the British Army
Sir Cameron Nicholson of the British Army
Sir Richard Gale of the British Army

Along with this, the following Generals will be promoted to Field Marshal of the British Empire under the orders of Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery and Harold Alexander.

Sir John Harding of the British Army
Sir Thomas Blamey of the Australian Army

Lastly, under the orders of Prime Minister Clement Attlee, the following foreign individuals are to be honorary Field Marshals of the British Empire.

General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower of the United States Army
General of the Army Omar Bradley of the United States Army
General of the Army George Marshall of the United States Army
General Mark Clark of the United States Army
General George S. Patton of the United States Army (Deceased)
General Charles de Gaulle of the French Republic
General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny of the French Republic
General Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque of the French Republic (Deceased)
Prime Minister Alexandros Papagos of the Kingdom of Greece

"This is good enough, Montgomery. I'd say give it to the prime minister and get them appointed." "It will be done immediately."

Czechoslovak Republic

Gottwald looked uneasy, tottering up to his seat in the Presidium meeting hall. One tier below him were the Party officials and government ministers. Underneath them was the vast array of seats of the National Assembly, the nation's de jure legislative body. In the center of this mass was the Czechoslovak and Slovak Communist Parties, the de facto legislative body. Orbiting around them like satellites was the Freedom Party, People's Party, Slovak Revival Party, and the Czechoslovak Socialist Party. Their representatives leaned in towards the Communists, as if drawn in by their gravity.

Gottwald shuffled his notecards, then leaned into the microphone and spoke.

"Good day, comrades," he began. "I have a few housekeeping items I'd like to go over today. First and foremost, I propose that our nation's formal name be changed, from the Czechoslovak Republic to the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, in keeping with our socialist principles and the spirit of comradeship among us. All in favor?"

Even if the other parties had any say in the matter, they would've supported the measure nonetheless. 300 hands shot into the air, accompanied by cheers and whistles. After the votes were (needlessly) tallied, Gottwald received a standing ovation. He gave a small smile, which disappeared when he glanced at the next item on his agenda.

"Second," he said. "I'd like to announce a new cabinet appointment. He's shown amazing loyalty, efficiency, and clarity in presenting his plans for the Czechoslovak economy. I am proud to announce the appointment of Martin Adamcek as Economic Minister!"

Prime Minister Zapotocky led the applause, talking excitedly with those seated around him. From there, it spread to the front sections of the Communist Parties, and had spread to the other parties before everyone was clapping. Adamcek, for his part, stood up walked to the podium, shaking Gottwald's hand before preparing to speak.

"Comrades," he began. "I am overjoyed at President Gottwald and Prime Minister Zapotocky's faith in me, and promise to serve Czechoslovakia to the best of my abilities. My first act as Economic Minister shall be to revise our current five year plan, in light of new findings and developments around the world. In particular, agriculture and the consumer goods' sectors will receive increased attention. I will of course work with our friends in other socialist nations, and with First Secretary Siroky to accomplish this. I thank you."

Shocked murmurs were drowned out by applause, the new First Secretary leading them, standing up with a self-satisfied smile upon his face. The rest of the party followed him, until soon Adamcek had the entire room on its feet. Noticing this, Gottwald grumbled to himself and stood up as well, giving a few halfhearted claps.

"You had your chance," Adamcek murmured through the side of his mouth, smiling and waving to the Assembly below. "Socialism is about ingenuity and progress, not copying the same formula. You understood that once."

A humorless smile crested across Gottwald's face. The older man leaned in and whispered a reply in Adamcek's ear, replacing the new Minister's smile with a stony frown.

"Will Stalin?"

Comrades,

Given affairs in both our respective nations, our allies, and around the world, it may be prudent for our representatives to meet to discuss these developments. If it is alright with you, Minister of Foreign Affairs Viliam Siroky would like to meet with a Soviet representative in a location of your preference. Among the items to be discussed are:

-The administration of occupied Austria.
-A possible alliance between Czechoslovakia, the USSR, and other like-minded socialist nations.
-Recent developments in Greece, Korea, and West Germany.
-Possible trade agreements between Czechoslovakia and the USSR, including the acquisition of equipment (or licenses to produce said equipment) in order to help Czechoslovakia rearm its military.

The South African delegation consisted of William H. Andrews, Mary Fitzgerald, and Hendrik Verwoerd, who had his protege Vorster following him. Three were elected by the Confederate Council to represent it at the meeting. Obviously, having 12 people meeting with one person was pretty cumbersome. They were escorted by ZARP officers, equipped with a hodge-podge of weaponry. The sun was sweltering in the February summer, and it definitely wasn't good for Andrews's health.

"Welcome to South Africa, comrade," said one old and ailing ex-general secretary. Andrews and Stalin couldn't be anymore similar. One was once the general-secretary of the Communist Party, the other still held the title. Both had strong handlebar mustaches, though Williams was a light grey, almost white, while Stalin's had a darker grey hue to it. He then extended his hand out for Stalin to shake.

Vorster had the trip planned out. It was planned just like a Soviet propaganda film. A military parade was to be hosted first, before Stalin would have a tour of an all-white factory and a small farmstead. The Man of Steel would then have a hunting trip out in the veld, hunting down big game. Finally, negotiations would be made over the fruits of the hunting trip. It was practically a vacation for the Man of Steel, and Vorster wouldn't want it any other way.

Pakistan, (OP acting as a NPC country)
Response to India

To: Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of the Federation of India
From: Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan of the Dominion of Pakistan

Our government agrees that peace must be maintained in the immediate aftermath of independence from the United Kingdom. We ask that a meeting take place in a neutral location, perhaps Geneva, in order to resolve the borders of Kashmir. We also ask that both our nations sign a treaty of non aggression to continue fostering good relations between our two nations.

South Africa

Joseph Stalin received a warm welcome from the South African delegation as soon as he arrived. He also extended his arm to shake Andrews' hand. "I'm glad to be here," he said. He hoped no one had seen him coughing earlier. Stalin's health was under a continuous decline.

He looked around in awe of the landscape of South Africa. The General Secretary of the Soviet Union now had the opportunity to court a former British colony onto the side of communism, although if such a thing would turn like Yugoslavia remained to be seen. Stalin then realized the delegation was a rather large group, surrounded by South African police units. Stalin was guarded by MGB agents himself, so he ignored that fact and gave a small smile to the others. He wiped his forehead and turned back towards Andrews. "Shall we begin? It's rather hot here."

Moscow

Foreign Minister Vyshinsky received a letter from one of the more recent additions to the Soviet satellite sphere. Czeckoslovakia, one of the major reasons the west created NATO, had requested to discuss several lingering topics. Vyshinksy began preparations for a proxy war in Guatemala. He delegated it off to his aids as he personally responded to the letter.

Greetings comrades!

The Soviet Union would like to maintain and improve relations with her allies. As such, I will visit your capital city of Prague to talk about these matters. This meeting can begin soon. I can attend Prague by early to mid March.

After getting that out of the way, Vyshinsky asked for more information about sending aid to communist rebels in Guatemala. The Soviets first began by sending MGB operatives to Latin America, and also by setting up shipping routes to send aid. As soon as the letter arrived back, Vyshinsky could make his move.

"Yes. It is hot," Andrews said with a cough. There was no hiding it. His health was even worse than Stalin's, and both Vorster and Verwoerd were flanking him in case something happened. Really, the only reason he came was due to his similarity to Stalin and his stubborn insistence.

Vorster laughed, "At least, you're not freezing like back in Moscow. A little bit of heat is exactly what you need." He then introduced Fitzgerald and Verwoerd to Stalin, almost taking control of the scene, "You're probably already familiar with miste-" Vorster then coughed, "Comrade Andrews. But, Mary Fitzgerald and Hendrik Verwoerd are also members of the delegation. All of them except for me, B.J. Vorster, are members of the Confederate Council. It's like the Swiss Directory or your Presidium."

Fitzgerald reached for a handshake from Stalin as well as Verwoerd. The South African delegation then led Stalin to a rather basic civilian car, while the ZARP escorts allowed the MVD agents to follow Stalin.

"Well that's promising," Siroky said, holding up the letter and nodding. "They seem enthusiastic for the most part."

"And it's our job to keep it that way," Zapotocky warned, scratching his balding head in annoyance. "They certainly know about your appointment, and won't like what we have to say on Greece and Yugoslavia."

"Simple," Adamcek piped up, setting down the day's issue of Rude pravo, the Party's official newspaper. It had covered Siroky's and his own appointment quite extensively, with more analysis and speculation than he'd expected from a propaganda outlet.

"Just don't bring it up," he said. "We must convince Stalin of our legitimacy and political reliability before we bring up Greece, or even worse, Yugoslavia. For now," he continued, turning to Siroky. "Stick with talking about Austria, West Germany, the Carpathian Rus, Korea, and rearmament. Don't even discuss Comecon; we can easily take their advice and throw it into the trash. With luck, we should be able to convince Russia and gain some territory, in addition to a rebuilt military. Then we can discuss Greece. In the meantime, send some agents into Austria and West Germany. From there we can keep an eye on things."

The Israeli Republic.
Image

Office of the Israeli Prime Minister.

”Recovery efforts have progressed remarkably in the last year, much of the damages to infrastructure have been repaired - the vast majority of destroyed armoured vehicles and aircraft have either been buried or successfully salvaged. And overall, things appear to be on the mend - in no small part thanks to the foreign aid we’ve received.” The junior minister concluded from the sidelines, stepping into the background once again as to allow for others to speak up, among those gathered saat - Walter Eytan, Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, David Ben-Gurion the Prime Minister & Minister of Defense, as well as the Israeli President, Chaim Weizmann.

The Foreign Minister was first to speak, ”Let there be no mistake - despite the resounding victory we achieved in the war, conflict still looms - this recovery is a blessing, but does not mark the end of our struggle. As the Defense Minister pointed out in last week’s assembly. It is important that we ensure our nation’s continued sovereignty and independence, and the only way in which we can do this - is to ensure the continued flow of foreign aid to our nation.”

Next, the Prime Minister spoke up, ”In this much, we agree. Without further arms shipments and financial support, I fear it’s only a matter of time before the Arabs successfully overrun our borders. We must be capable not only of defending ourselves, but of being able to strike first - should we come to believe that the Arabs are mobilizing or scheming to lash out at us again - which they will, as soon as they’re able to. Let there be no mistake. And the people of Israel will gladly sally forth to meet them - so long as they have the tools todo so.”

”Then it’s settled, we’ll launch an immediate campaign for continued international recognition, and reach out to those who’ve already recognised us or provided support in the last few years in pursuit of closer ties. However, we must be careful - to align ourselves too absolutely with one side in this precarious power-struggle over Europe, could antagonize the other - and the last thing we can afford is the wrath of the Soviet Union or United States coming down on our economy, or worse yet - in the form of direct military intervention.” The President concluded the meeting with his brisk and to-the-point statement, gathering his things prior to making his departure.

The Foreign Minister immediately returned to the Foreign Office and began delegating tasks to his staff, the entire building filling with the sound of type-writers and telegrams pinging back and forth. The Foreign Ministry, however - wasn’t the only department that had come to life in recent days, with the Ministry of Defence also serving as a hive of near unending activity - in the last year of peace, it had finally been able to organize the newly founded Israeli Defence Force and establish clear and coherent internal structures for its units. As well as a reasonable degree of standardization in its equipment.

TO: The British Foreign Ministry.
FROM: The Israeli Foreign Ministry.

To whomever it may concern,

I write to you on behalf of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, in hopes of extending a hand of friendship, in spite of our somewhat rough history. Despite the violence that came in the months leading up to our Independence and the somewhat rough partitioning of our territories, the Nation of Israel hopes to pursue amicable relations with Great Britain and her territories.

In the hopes that one day, we may even embrace one another as friends, if not colleagues on the international stage. As such, we hope - that in the coming days, we can count on the nation of Great Britain recognising Israel, not only as a political entity, but territorially as well. Any such recognition would be greatly appreciated by not only our Government, but by all Israelis and would most certainly lead to more favourable relations in the immediate future - as recognition from another nature of your stature, would inevitably lead to further security for our people.

Kind Regards,

The people of the Israeli Republic.

TO: The French Foreign Ministry.
FROM: The Israeli Foreign Ministry.

To whomever it may concern,

The people of Israel and the people of continental Europe share a bond that few others can truly understand, both our peoples suffered at the tyrannical hands of the Nazis in recent years - both of our nations have suffered the onslaught of a foreign power that has sought to destroy not only our Nation territorially, but our identities as a people.

As such, we hope - in light of this unique bond we share, that you would do us the ultimate honour of recognising our Government as legitimate both politically and territorially, and that we can - in the immediate future, move forwards together, not only as colleagues, but as friends, in the development of our defence industries, to ensure that both our peoples - never again suffer at the hands of foreign occupiers or face the threat of genocide. The French Republic holds a strong place in the hearts of the Israeli people, and we hope such a feeling is mutual.

Kind Regards,

The People of the Israeli Republic.

TO: The American Foreign Ministry.
FROM: The Israeli Foreign Ministry.

To whomever it may concern,

For decades, the United States has stood as a beacon of Freedom and Democracy across the globe - providing hope to the downtrodden and oppressed, when no other would. It is because of this, we hope you will join the growing list of nations which recognise our State and it’s Government and its aims to create a secure and sovereign nation for all Jewish people to call their own. Where the principles of Freedom and Liberty are openly embraced in a land that’s known no such luxury for countless years.

Our people have a long history in American society, and played a role in the invention of many of America’s greatest assets in its Arsenal of Democracy. As such, we hope that the United States can play a key role in the establishment of our own Arsenal - for we live in perilous conditions, surrounded by those who would love nothing more than to see our nation and its people annihilated from the face of the Earth. Just as the Nazis five years ago once did, prior to our people’s liberation at the hands of your own Forces, and that of the rest of the Allies.

We look forwards to receiving your response, and once again extend our greatest of thanks for your part in our people’s liberation and our survival in our previous conflict against our Arab neighbours.

Kind Regards,

The people of the Israeli Republic.

TO: The Foreign Ministry of the U.S.S.R.
FROM: The Israeli Foreign Ministry.

To whomever it may concern,

I write to you this evening to once again extend the Israeli Republic’s thanks to the people of the Soviet Union, for they stood as the first nation to recognise our territorial and political sovereignty on the international stage. We hope this will serve as a foundation for future relations between our peoples, and that in the coming months and years - we can grow to see one another as friends, if not colleagues on the international stage.

Despite our political differences, we would like it to be known that the people of Israel desire no feud with the Soviet Union, and hope that this feeling is mutual. As such, we’d like to formally propose the exchange of Embassies. As part of this proposal, Israel would pay for the construction of a Soviet embassy in Tel Aviv, and would expect the Soviet Union to do the same for our own fledgling nation in Moscow.

We hope to hear back from you soon,

Kind Regards,

The people of the Israeli Republic.

The first month of the French Nationalisation Programme has born early but small amounts of fruit. Unemployment throughout the regions of Southern France and Western France have dropped considerably although demagogues say temporarily since they are government-funded projects which Vincent Auriol replied that it will temporarily fix it but simultaneously spur further growth. In tandem with Nationalisation, the privatisation and start-ups programme in part thanks to the help of the Marshall Plan has created a landscape of new businesses opening in Lorient, Nantes and other smaller second-tier cities. Whether these businesses last remains to be seen but for now the situation seems to be lightening. However, these initiatives have led to the population of Paris decreasing by at least 40,000 as many workers move out to seek jobs elsewhere in France. The government has promised to rectify this by many Parisians feel abandoned. Conservative critics rapaciously continue to criticise the government for being "too communist" and a wave of anti-communist fear and pro-communist rhetoric is spreading. However, Vincent Auriol came out recently in February to say, "France is in a desperate post-war state and has no room for ideological struggles! All French must come together and work towards a more prosperous France, even if it means adopting policies from across the aisle."

In the colonies, the 20th Infantry Division of the French Republic consisting of 14,000 and her respective support regiments has been dispatched to the North Algiers Zone in the city of Algiers. Furthermore, the Jean Bart and her new destroyer escorts, the L'Opiniâtre and L'Aventurier have left Tunis early this February to Singapore. Richelieu has also recently finished repairs and will be heading to Marseille for refit and shore leave to allow the crews to return home to their expecting loved ones in rotation. The French Troops in Indochina have all pulled out of the Interior and are currently in Saigon, Vung Tau or Phnom Penh. The 1st and 2nd Parachute Battalions have finished boarding the convoys and are on their way to Nice for redeployment. Mahajanga Naval Base in Madagascar is also starting construction of a new airfield that is 4,000 metres long with the new colonial infrastructure fund of 8 million francs. Newer base revamps are also planned in Noumea, New Caledonia and Pointe-Noire, French Equatorial Africa - Congo.

To: Rome, The Kingdom of Italy
Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi

Dear Prime Minister Gasperi,

I am thankful that our good Italian allies are concerned about the developments in France. However, it is paramount that France gets her economy back in shape as with prosperity, the communist tendency's my people have should start to fall. The Nationalisation and Privatisation of certain aspects of the economy are apart of the plan and I can assure you that we are still staunchly in the western camp. However, France would be glad to have our Italian friends help weed out any potential violent communist groups, especially in Southern France and I can also gladly say France will be willing to help your nation too. More cooperation would greatly benefit both our countries.

Yours sincerely
President Vincent Auriol
Elysee Palace, Paris

To: Tel Aviv, Israel
The Israeli Foreign Ministry

We would be happy to recognise the State of Israel but the political situation makes it difficult. We will try to support your people as much as possible and apologise sincerely if France did not do enough to support the Jews that lived here during the Nazi occupation. We have condemned and hung the Vichy French Supporters for their deportation of Jews to German Concentration Camps. Yet, with so many Muslims living under our banner and tension high in Algeria and many colonies, I fear now might not be the right time. We will send material and monetary support as reparations for the actions of Vichy but we request you allow us to diffuse tension in the colonies and attempt to resolve inter-religious issues before we recognise the State of Israel on the world stage. Behind closed doors, however, we find your nation totally legitimate under the UN partition agreement in 1948.

Yours sincerely,
President Vincent Auriol

The Empire Of China

A homogenous Han Chinese nation that successfully weathered the era of colonialism and managed to establish itself in a new world order with focus on science and technology and constant progress to improve the lives for all of humanity. China under the Liang Dynasty will advance as one nation and will not fazed. In the spirit of nurturing rightness and from the ashes of the former glory of Imperial China.

East Berlin
3rd March, 1950

To officiate the ascension of Walter Ulbricht to the new role of General Secretary, the Ministry of Information organised an international press conference to be held so that the international community could learn to know the new leader. The room of the press conference was to be packed with journalists who intended to ask the new Stalinist-esque leader about his new style of leadership. Sitting at the front of the room was Walter and other party heads. Behind them was the flag of the German Democratic Republic and the City Flag of East Berlin.

A party apparatchik stood in front of the crowd and spoke in english: "If anyone intends to ask the General Secretary a question, they may do so."

Bonn, Germany
Bundeshaus, Chancellor's Quarters
March 1, 1950

Sitting in his office, Adenauer let out a low irritated grumble as he glanced through various reports detailing everything that had been occurring within his nation within the last few weeks.

The bulk of these dealt with the status of the current West German economy, with the news being a mixture of good and bad. The massive influx of refugees who had settled into the free German nation had resulted in a seemingly endless supply of labor to use, which for the few industries that needed them caused much needed relief. However, economic restrictions combined with the still occupied resource-rich regions resulted in a sudden halt in what would have been a potential economic uptick, resulting in wages being stifled for those who were working and many people to still remain without a source of income. The aid given to West Germany by the Americans was enough to keep the growing population fed to some degree for the time being, but as their population grew larger and larger by the month, it was clear that unrest was beginning to build within the population.

This unrest was the focal point of the next following set of reports Adenauer had read through, these being details of several tense incidents of West Germans harassing off-duty American military personnel. At most these incidents had resulted in minor scuffles between the offending parties, the ending result always becoming a matter of the Americans "Taking care of the situation". In other words, even if the situation was caused by these American soldiers stationed there, the West German government could do nothing in forms of punishment while their own citizens were at the mercy of the American military judicial councils. Should steps not be taken soon, Adenauer feared for what could eventually come next.

The last outstanding issue, but far from the worst, was the current ongoing issues occurring in Berlin at the moment. The East German government had effectively stopped travel into the "free" portion of the city, stationing guards in high-security checkpoints that made it where only those the Communist puppet government allowed were able to travel. Already a growing list of complaints were being sent in from the West Germans living in the city, as families were more or less permanently split apart from one another with little chance of reuniting. Any attempts from the Western German government to convince the East Germans to cease this had fallen aside almost immediately, as it was clear that the Eastern Germany government was not willing to budge. Begrudgingly Adenauer had been forced to deploy what little there was of the armed police force along the border as well in case of an incident breaking out at the border. Unofficially his government had already laid the groundwork to help secure methods in which to assist those wishing to cross the border illegally, but given what consequences would occur should their efforts be discovered, little could be done for those still on the other side of the border.

Glancing over the mountain of paperwork before him, Adenauer leaned back in his chair, reaching for a small flash he kept hidden within his jacket's pocket. Taking a small sip of the harsh-smelling liquid inside, he let out a small but clearly exhausted sigh. His lists of problems within his nation only seemed to grow larger by the day while his abilities to solve them seemed to shrink. It was taking a toll on the man, yet he knew that he still needed to do what he could for the sake of the West German people.

After his last unsuccessful meeting with the American President, Adenauer had ceased meeting with foreign representatives for some time. He had been given an offer to meet with the Eastern Germans, but this request had quickly been thrown to the side as he knew that neither the Americans nor the Soviets would allow such a meeting to take place. These two powers were hell bent on doing whatever they could to punish the German people for the sins that much of the surviving population of Germany that still walked the streets free were, at least in the eyes of Adenauer, they were not responsible for. The situation reminded him greatly of the troubled times that occurred following the Great War, and he feared at what could come from such a similar situation given what had happened the last time.

For now, however, all he could do was wait and see.

The man's name was Hans Fischer, who had been born and raised in the city of Berlin only to see it crumble under the military weight of the Red Army several years prior to today. After being acknowledged, Hans got up from his seat with his notepad and pencil in hand in preparation for the response to his question.

"Hans Fischer, reporting in from General-Anzeiger. Many citizens in Western Germany are concerned at the current actions of Eastern Germany in regards to the restrictions of passage between West and East Berlin. Given that many families have been permanently separated due to the aggressive closure of the borders, how can the East German government justify such actions that only further increase tension between the two German states?"

London, England, March 3, 1950

Attlee was planning his tour, with Churchill, of the British Dominions as part of their campaigns, scheduled for late March 1950, when his secretary came in. "Sir, I need to give you two letters, one from 2 months ago and one we received recently." She hands the letters to Attlee. "Respond to these with what I say.."

TO: The Isreali Foreign Ministry.
FROM: The British Foreign Ministry.

To whomever it may concern,

I write to you on behalf of the United Kingdom and its Dominions. The United Kingdom wants to have good relations with the State of Israel, even after the rough partition of territory.

As to recognizing the State of Israel as politically and territorially. The British Empire would be glad to recognize the sovereignty and territory of the State of Israel. This being from a superpower, as you have successfully managed to fight off 5 Arab nations in one go surprised most of the military leaders of my empire, except Bernard Montgomery. We are all impressed by your nation. We hope for more cooperation between Israel and Britain in the future.

Kind Regards,

Prime Minister Clement Attlee of the British Empire

Subject: Diplomacy

Dear Prime Minister Gasperi,

A war as bad as WW2 does leave bad scars on nations such as yours and mine. I do think that we can attempt to bury these wounds between the British Empire and The Kingdom of Italy. As for economic and military ties, the British Empire thinks that this can be restored as well. Hopefully, we can help to restore freedom and democracy to Europe once again.

Kind regards,

Prime Minister Clement Attlee of the British Empire

Meanwhile, at RAF Lancastershire

The first of Britain's new generation of bomber, the Avro Vulcan long-range strategic bomber, begin to come off production lines. Designed in 1949, Prime Minister Clement Attlee ordered that the Vulcan be placed into mass production in December 1949. Now, on March 3, 1950, the first squadron of Avro Vulcan bombers in commissioned into the Royal Air Force. They will be the RAF's ultimate strike package against the Soviet Union in case of war. With a payload of 21 1,000 kg bombs, a squadron of Vulcans could wreak havoc to cities such as Moscow and Leningrad. They will soon be based across the United Kingdom and Canada, as from there they can strike Eastern Russia.

East Berlin

Ulbricht fixed his tie before taking the stand.

"I appreciate your question," Walter said before continuing. "The German Democratic Republic would have preferred to have left the border status as it was, however, to protect and consolidate us as an independent and defined nation, something must have been done along the border between East and West Berlin. The Ministry of State Security did extensive research into the undermining of an East German state by none other than the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the United States of America, and we found it to be a free path for anti-German forces to cross through. These actions to undermine the German Democratic Republic include offering financial payments to citizens of the DDR to defect to the West and attempting to sow discord among the socialist populace. Obviously, and reluctantly, the German People needed to take action on this at once and we're making headway in restoring peace to the border through legal border-crossings. This way the DDR can know who is coming into the country and for what reason."

God, Country, and King

Spain had sat out World War II, a move that had ultimately proved fortunate for the nation as their erstwhile Fascist allies had collapsed under the superior industrial weight of the combined Allied powers. Yet, despite officially having been neutral in name, in practice she had been far from so. Thought in the Madrid during that time of global turmoil had revolved around what was termed the “Three Wars” hypothesis, which held that:

1. There was the Eastern War, between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, in which Spain was on the side of Berlin and her satellites.
2. The Western War, between the Anglo-Americans and the Reich, in which Spain maintained strict neutrality.
3. The Asian War, between the Empire of Japan and the Anglo-Americans, in which Spain, due to connections to the Philippines and a general outlook on Asia at large, sided with the Anglo-Americans.

Through this thinking, Spain had been able to survive the Second World War without being sucked into the maelstrom. This had not been easy, as the Falangist contingent in the then Francoist Regime had been steadfastly in favor of entering the conflict directly on the side of the Axis powers, nearly plunging the nation into renewed civil war over the issue in 1942. Franco had been able to survive the danger, and, for all of his faults, this had definitely been one of his top accomplishments and worth of praise on its own.

Yet, while Spain had been officially neutral (if biased) de jure, it had not been entirely so de facto. Spain, as a Far Rightist nation was firmly opposed to the Bolshevik menace that then, as now, resides in Moscow and threatens the entirety of the world. Along these lines of thinking, Spain had assembled what came to be termed the “Blue Division” from volunteers, deploying it on the Eastern Front from 1942 to 1944. There, the men proved as valiant and as effective as their own German allies and the equal, if not more so, to anything the Soviets could throw against them. Under intense diplomatic pressure, Franco would ultimately withdraw the division in 1944 after it had achieved nearly 2:1 rates in casualties against the Russians.

It was in this spirit that in early 1950, the new Spanish Regime, looking to emphasize its new role within NATO while, by its very nature being opposed to Communism in of itself, would look towards reviving that vaunted fighting force with a new enemy in mind. Shortly after WWII the Malay Emergency had broken out in Southeast Asia, seeing vast numbers of Commonwealth forces seeking to put down the Red insurgency being waged in the soon to be independent Malaysia. British troops proved effective in combating the rebels but still found that the affair was a drawn out one. This, however, got Madrid to thinking and gave them an opening…..

Old veteran officers were being recalled or reassigned, as needed, while the new “Blue Brigade”, as it was being informally called, was assembled. Although Spain lacked the desire to send an entire division to Southeast Asia, a brigade would due just fine. Reorganized to be a primarily mobile force, of light infantry and armored cars, but supported by over-strength artillery, the Blue Brigade was to be led by veterans of the Eastern Front in the officer and NCO cadre as much as possible. The 5,000 man force was to show Spain’s commitment to fighting Communism, proving its worth to her NATO allies and, perhaps most importantly, help Spain to retain and develop further her understanding of modern war, particularly Counter-Insurgency (COIN) warfare.
_____
To: United Kingdom Foreign Office
From: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Spain

To our illustrious British allies,

The struggle against the threat of global Communism entails that all members of the Western alliance must do their part to ensure that Moscow is not only contained, but decisively pushed back in order to maintain peace and prosperity for all. Spain knows this and to this end wishes to further her role in such efforts. With this in mind, we humbly request you allow us to deploy a 5,000 strong Brigade into Malay in order to assist your efforts, and those of the wider Commonwealth, in rolling back Red insurgents there. This, we believe, will be an extremely potent force, largely led by experienced commanders and to be equipped to the best of our abilities. We cannot, however, maintain the logistically abilities alone and, if you accept this offer, we request your assistance in meeting their force needs as well as helping to provide shipping for our troops. We eagerly await your response.

Sincerely,

Minister Alberto Martín-Artajo

Be assured the United States fully backs Israel and her territories recognized by the UN and will ensure its Independence through military force if necessary. We are not yet ready to establish a full on military alliance however for the next 2 years we will provide; $20 million in cash, $20 million in industrial development, $20 million in foodstuffs, and a further $20 million loan with a 0% interest rate to be repaid by 1970. We agree to this proposition and hope to solve this crisis as soon as possible with the minimal amount of bleedshed. In light of that account, we wish for Pakistan to help reign in the currently acting militias in the area. As this has the side-effect of disrupting the potential for a peaceful solution.

The 2nd squadron of Vulcan Bombers begins to land at RAF Kai Tak, which will be stationed there until further notice by the Air Chief Marshal of the Royal Air Force. They will be based there to protect Australia and New Zealand, along with the Federation of Malaysia and Hong Kong, from any threats which will require heavy bombing. They will also be used by the Royal Air Force for large scale ground operations if they are needed. With these bombers, along with a soon-to-be dispatched squadron of de Havilland Vampire and Gloster Meteor fighter jets, this will strengthen Britain's air presence in the area.

Dominion of Pakistan (OP acting as NPC country)

To: Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of the Federation of India
From: Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan of the Dominion of Pakistan

The Dominion of Pakistan agrees to this proposal, as it's in our government's best interest to make the necessary moves to keep peace in the region of Kashmir. In order to quickly bring about a satisfactory end to this conflict, Pakistan asks that the Geneva Conference be held in mid to late March. This will give both our governments ample time to prepare for mediation while also calming the tensions ourselves.

Praetoria, Confederacy of South African Republics

The General Secretary of the Soviet Union laughed alongside Vorster. Joseph Stalin was a heavy smoker who suffered from Atherosclerosis, and a severe heart attack just five years ago. The heat of that was beating down on him was kind of relieving compared to the brutal Russian winters. Stalin, who removed his hat, was wearing a uniform typical of that of a high ranking general. It had several gold buttons along the center, and he had a small plate on his shoulder where a star was placed. To anyone unfamiliar with the General Secretary, it appeared as if he was a key general.

It's nice to meet you all," Stalin said in response to Vorster's comments. After shaking hands with Fitzgerald and Verwoerd, Stalin resisted the urge to reach for his neck, as he didn't want to appear frail in front of potential allies. Stalin saw the car that was prepared for him and entered it. He eagerly awaited the processions that would follow in the coming hours

Prague, Czechoslovak Socialist Republic

Andrey Vyshinsky arrived by plane in the Czechoslovak capital city. The Soviet foreign minister was a busy man. He began orchestrating weapons trafficking routes to Latin America during the same time he had effectively overthrown the East German government. The USSR ended their official occupation of the East Germans just months ago, but like all of her satellite states, the Soviet Union maintained a strong presence, both militarily and diplomatically. Here, in one of Europe's most prestigious cities, Vyshinsky was once again the most powerful man to walk the streets.

The city of Prague, and the entire nation of Czechoslovakia was among the first victims of Nazi aggression. Vyshinsky had painful memories of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact that his predecessor signed and the horrors of the Great Patriotic War. Fortunately for Czechoslovakia, their country wasn't as devastated as some of its neighbors, especially Russia itself and Poland, whose capital of Warsaw still lay in ruins.

Vyshinsky didn't trust the new Czechoslovak government. His experience in Berlin just weeks ago didn't help the matter either. However, since he was a representative of the psychopath that was Joseph Stalin, Vyshinsky made no effort to make his disdain for the Eastern Bloc states known. His job was simply to represent and strike a deal. As soon as the ink dried, he was free to go.

The Foreign Minister was surrounded by a plethora of MGB officers. In fact, the number of MGB agents with Vyshinsky here was far greater than normal. He didn't want anyone to forget that the USSR was now the world's second super power, and in the case of Eastern Europe, the Soviets still gripped them by the throats with an iron fist. Vyshinsky stood in front of the Prague Castle, admiring the building and the city's architecture as he waited for the meeting to begin.

Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Aleksandr Vasilevsky and Viktor Abakumov of the Soviet Union, Kim Il Sung of North Korea, and Zhou Enlai of the People's Republic of China all gathered in the North Korean Capital city. Their meeting was secret and of utmost importance. The division of Korea after centuries of unification proved controversial with everyone, especially Kim Il Sung. The four men met in Chung-guyok. This district, located in the center of Pyongyang, was the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

"Greetings, everyone," Vasilevsky said in a loud, booming voice. "Today, begins the official correspondence between our three nations. Let us begin by introducing ourselves. I am Aleksandr Vasilevsky, the Soviet Defense Minister and former Chief of General Staff. The man along me is Viktor Abakumov, the head of our Ministry of State Security."

Kim Il Sung responded by saying, "I am the Premier of Korea. I'm sure you all know me. There's no need for pleasantries!" The group laughed following Kim Il Sung's statements as the general atmosphere of the room relaxed.

Zhou Enali said, "Zhou Enali, the Premier of the People's Republic of China and foreign minister."

The Soviet reps nodded. Several people came into the conference room and dropped off traditional Korean food and drinks. Aleksandr Vasilevsky turned towards Kim Il Sung, and in-between bites of beef barbecue Bulgogi, said, "We received your message, Premier. The matter of security for this nation is among our top priorities. The Soviet Union will officially begin sending military advisers and training medical professionals in your zone."

"Going off that," Abakumov interjected. "I believe your men are in need of training by our...special units. The Soviet Ministry of State Security is quite efficient and experienced in dealing with dissent."

Kim Il Sung, who already gulped down his own plate, eagerly announced his satisfaction with the Soviet delegation. "The north is thankful for the aid you have given and will continue to provide. I believe our three nations can form a strong alliance, and in time, we can become an effective fighting force against the west."

Zhou Enali, who had remained quiet since his introduction, spoke up. "What are your plans for the Korean army, Premier?"

This was the one question that everyone in the room knew was going to be asked, and one that had actually prompted this meeting. "It is time for this arbitrary division of Korea to be finished. Every day I look into Europe, and I see how Berlin and Germany are becoming more shut down by the day. I will not let the same happen here. We already know the horrors of Japanese occupation, and I cannot let the people live under an American puppet regime."

Enali took a sip of his Maesilcha tea. "You plan on crossing the 38th parallel."

"Precisely. The Americans are too caught up in their European affairs to really care for the south."

Vasilevsky pondered over the Premier's comments. "The American president arrived in the south not too long ago, staging his support. He was given a full parade and all of the typical diplomatic niceties."

Kim Il Sung turned his eyes towards Vasilevsky. "That's just for show," he replied dismissively. The Second World War ended only five years ago. It's still fresh in everyone's mind. The Americans, no matter what their president says, won't support another war so soon."

Zhou Enali was unconvinced. "The Soviets believed the same in their sector of Germany during the so called 'Berlin Blockade' just a few months ago. They responded immediately."

"Yes, that is true," Kim said in agreement. "But the situation has changed since then. The Soviets have the bomb. We have China on our side. They won't dare risk two major powers attacking. Not only that, but the civil war in China is effectively over, and the Americans didn't intervene. If they weren't willing to go far in China, why do the same for Korea, which holds far less strategic importance?"

Vasilevsky, just like Enali, was still skeptical. "How well trained and equipped is your army for such an endeavor?".

"That is why I called you here today. We can definitely handle an invasion. Socialist uprisings are already commonplace in the south, and the US have not committed many troops to the region. Japan is their main priority. And now that China can focus more on international affairs, we can receive reinforcements from them easily."

"The Chinese army is still recovering from decades of war. While we support the north's cause, our commitment needs to be reinforced by increased Soviet aid. Not only that, but a treaty needs to be signed, which covers Manchuria and the eastern railways. " Enali turned towards both Soviet reps. "Is this acceptable to you two?"

Abakumov nodded his head, and said, "210,750,006 in Chinese Yuan will be sent to China for financial aid, and the territorial questions will be answered soon."

"Well, I believe we're in agreement then?" Kim asked ecstatically.

"Yes," Enali said. "China will send upwards of 70,000 of our former PRC units to provide for the North Korean Army."

With that, the first round of meetings between the three powers ended.

East Berlin, German Democratic Republic

A Soviet appointed journalist was sitting in the conference room of the communist sector of Berlin. She rose up, and said, "I am Nadezhda Arkadyevna Karenina, an immigrant from the Ukrainian SSR to America. As an ally of the Soviet Union, you are caught between the crossfires of the ever deteriorating relations between east and west. How do you plan on providing the citizens of this war torn country a strong, effective leader while not bowing down to the wishes of Moscow? And not only that, how are the former members of the Nazi Party being contained and handled by your party? More specifically, how is the policy of de-nazification being implemented, and how will you prevent another dictator from coming into power?"
