Mikhailov

“...Tell me...have you ever considered what love means?”

“Bwaha! Of course! Love means that the chemicals in your brain react, when you see a person who causes the right ones to activate! They make your body feel good, and so you are attracted to them.” Mikhailov had been insufferable as a teenager, perhaps to hide some of his pain from a loveless childhood. But of course he knew the scientific answer regarding ‘love’, as he figured he knew everything. He had read every book he could find in the library, on the subject. He could have quizzed his classmate on it, if he had wanted to do so.

But Isaak, the quiet, older classmate he had come to carefully deem a friend, seemed bent on revealing the weaknesses in his classmate’s heart. At 16, Mikhailov had never fallen in love and had rarely interacted with the students in his class. Now, he had reached-out to make a friend, one who was more down-to-earth and humble. “...Have you ever considered that love means more than that?”

“Well of course, but for the time being, love seems to only be a physical reaction. And frankly, one that will distract me from getting my degree,” the young Mage had answered. He changed his tune when Isaak walked to his desk and put his hands on the younger boy’s desk. “Eh?! Don’t you have homework to do? What are you doing?”

“...Making sure you understand.” Isaak was patient, the patient friend that a boy like Mikhailov had needed, but he also awakened some confusion in the Light Mage. His wheat-colored hair, mixed with some premature grey, looked like the wheat fields of Ukraine, and his melancholy eyes were the color of an overcast sky. His lips were turned in a slight frown, studious and knowing.

“...By looming over my desk? I’m working on a paper,” Mikhailov retorted, though his voice was rather muted and weak. His older friend had never looked at him with such a grave look before, and he felt himself unconsciously sinking into his desk. “...What...do you want from me?...” he questioned. He had never felt so small, not even in front of his parents.

Isaak leaned down closer, closer, and then pulled the Mage into a snug embrace. One might say that the angle of the hug was bizarre, since he was craning down over a desk, but he pulled Mikhailov’s head to his shoulder and held him there. “...I don’t want anything...I wanted to remind you...that people here do love you. So...don’t forget about them, okay?...” he murmured, as he felt the younger Mage relax. “...We don’t want you to feel alone...”

The Mage’s feelings bloomed even more after Isaak hugged him. He had rarely been hugged in his life, but the way he gazed at the Mage and reached for him spoke to some deep desire for gentleness, for comfort, for compassion. He pulled back for a moment, and stared up at the eyes of his classmate, who seemed to wait for his response. “...Do you love me?...” he inquired.

“I do. And I don’t think you’ve been told that much in your life, have you, Konstantin?” Isaak smiled and stared back, his eyes opening a little as he spoke. They stood in silence for a few moments, with Isaak chuckling as Mikhailov seemed confused. “...You’re the smartest boy in our class...but you’re still learning.” Footsteps sounded out the room, and Isaak broke the intense gaze to walk out of the room. Someone was waiting for him outside the room, one of his own friends. The Mage was left with a befuddled pink in his cheeks, and he forgot about his paper.

The vision of the silver-haired man had ended, but in his place Mikhailov now saw his memories. He wanted Isaak to embrace him now. Now he understood, or so he hoped. He lay with his arm out in front of him, as he was curled in the fetal position, and he hoped that someone would come. Not even to free him, just to hold him. He hated his vulnerability. He wanted more of it. He could not decide how he felt anymore.

Morri

"Erm, I haven't tried shifting forms yet." Countered Morri. "Besides, wrecking the bed wouldn't help much with preserving yer precious Masquerade."

She let out a groan of frustration and sighed. "Just as I was beginning ta like ye..."

"Alright, fine, we'll do this yer way then." Morri conceded. "But me parents are in danger and I wanna get 'em out o' it."

"Call 'em back in." Asked Morri. "Wanna speak ta 'em."

"Ma, dad." Morri began after Alexei had called her parents back into the room. "Theres no easy way ta say this, so I'm gonna ask wot did Gug say 'bouts a couple o' years back? Don't worry, we can speak freely round Alexei."

"Well..." Morri's father began to speak, shifting uncomfortably. "At first he said ye went away and that ye were still fine, then yer sister Morg...well...changed and yer Gug was able to convince us that some o' the old stories were truer than we thought."

"OK, that makes things easier..." Morri replied, letting out a sigh of relief. "That man in the suit, who is he?"

"He's sort o' me boss, well the boss o' the managers above me...not sure how high he is." Morri's father answered. "He came ta visit me a year and convinced me ta leave the Army and come work here in LA, the money was ta good ta turn down. But, theres something a little o' 'bouts him."

"Ah...that explains why ye got here so quickly..." Muttered Morri, dread rising inside of her. "Is Morg here as well?"

"No, she's still in Ireland as far as we're aware."

"Good, now I'm gonna need ye ta listen ta me real good." Morri said, focusing her will on one of her Garou special ability, harder than she'd ever done, before she spoke her next few words. "Go back to Ireland, tis not safe fer ye here."

Her parents' face took on a slightly dazed look, almost as if there was some sort of internal conflict. Morri mentally begged, pleaded to Gaia that her ability had worked its magic and she'd convinced her to parents to get themselves out of danger.

Lestrange

Markus idly chattered with the doctor and nurse in the corridor outside Morri's room, making careful note of when Morri's parents were called in. He also noticed FBI SWAT team personnel patrolling the hospital and narrow his eyes, a thought occurring to him. He made his excuses to the doctor and nurse before walking a short distance down the corridor before pulling his phone out and dialling a number. "Lestrange here."

"Contact our good friends at the Bureau and see if you can find out what's going down here at the hospital, offer them the assistance of one of our security teams whilst you're at it. No, that will be all."

Alexei gave a sympathetic smile and chuckled an ironic laugh, as Morri said she was “just beginning to like him”. “I apologize,” he answered, “I simply don’t want you to be harmed any further. We have to be careful. And yes, we’ll get your parents out of it as much as we can. It’s the least I can do to help you get away from that man.” He walked out of the room to get her parents, and then stood like a soldier by her bed, as her parents entered. He was careful not to give eye contact to Lestrange, who was now talking on his phone in the hallway. He felt another throb of darkness as he entered back in the room, and stood like a soldier next to Morri’s bed.

She asked about her “Gug”, and then about her sister “Morg”, both of whom were in Ireland. She did well, trying to clear misunderstandings with her parents before she gave them the kick in the gut. When she demanded to know about the strange man in the hallway, her father could not answer much about him. Thus Alexei was more convinced about their inability to handle the darkness of the Masquerade. Her father had been persuaded out of his prestigious career, and now he was confused to hear that his daughter was uncertain.

Worry passed through his body as he saw her use her gift of Persuasion. Some sort of manipulation of the mind, which she could activate simply by speaking. Her parents became silent for a moment, and did not blink, as they fought the suggestion she had given them. Leaving would make them safe, as they would be away from Lestrange, but then Morri was alone without her parents. He gave her an anxious look, but then turned to look at her parents. “I will continue to keep her safe while she is here, and I will help her to find a place to stay where she is safe and secure,” he explained, softly. He was careful not to say too much, to ensure that Morri’s quick maneuver worked.

The Hospital.

Something was...off. Morri's mother and Father seemed ok enough, they carried a scent that held no malice...but something was off, he could just make out a whiff of something...dark. Excusing him self from the room he stepped out in to the empty hallway, turning to see his two posted guards nodding to him, their Rifles down but ready, suppressors attached. Fallowing the smell, the *stench* he quietly stalked down the hall, seeing the man, Lestrange, talking quietly on the phone. Stopping, he got a good whiff of the air again and his eyes widened. Wyrm Taint.

And Lestrange smelled like some one familiar with the Wyrm.

Increasing his pace he rapidly approached the man before coming to a dead stop behind him as he hung up his phone. Placing a firm hand on his shoulder, he drew and leveled the .454 on his lower back. Keeping his voice low, Jonah spoke. "That is a Suppressed pistol in .454 Casule, one shot would crater your spine and mulch your insides. You try to run, You die. You try to scream for help, you die. Do you understand me?" He got a tense nod in return. "Good Wyrm Drone, you and me are going for a little chat." Keeping the gun concealed in between Lestrange and him self, Jonah steered him towards a supply closet between two rooms down and, after calling for a Keui-Jin trooper to fallow him, shoved Lestrange inside.

The room was small, the size of a walk in closet with what seemed to a multitude of cleaning and sanitation goods and tools. Finding a folding chair, he roughly sat Lestrange down and told the soldier to stand guard outside. Standing a few feet back, Jonah spoke. "Fold you're hands behind you're head and interlock your fingers, I see them move and you die." With the click of the door closing behind him, Jonah smiled.

"I wan't to know a few things, who do you work for, why are you after the Garou pup, and why I shouldn't ventilate you're skull."

Morri

I beseech thee Gaia, come through for your children and aid a daughter of the Stag. Morri thought in her head, imploring the Mother Goddess to imbue Morri's words so that her parents took heed and left for the safety of the Emerald Isle. For the briefest of moments Morri felt another presence with her, far stronger than the vampire Anna and filled with warmth, happiness and love. The presence seemed almost like it would engulf her, but it was gone as quickly as it had come.

"Alright..." Her father sighed, suddenly shattering the silence in the room. "As I said, something seems o' 'bouts that man and I've had a few nagging thoughts 'bouts me job here as it is. Even in Ireland, over twenty years in the army should put me in good stead."

"So ye'll go?" Morri asked, trying not to let the hopefulness sound in her voice.

"Aye, we'll go lass." Smiled her father. "But we'll miss ya."

"I've missed ye ta dad, and ye ma." Replied Morri with a weak smile, trying hard not to let tears well up in her eyes. "I'll try and write....somehow."

"That would be nice, but seeing ye again after all this time was good enough love." Morri's mother replied this time, leaning in to kiss Morri on her forehead. "Ye take care o' yerself."

"Aw ma, I've done alright so fa...yeah, fair point."

"And ye," Morri's father said to Alexei. "Anything happens ta her, we'll hold ye ta account fer it."

Lestrange

Markus put his phone back into his pocket and went to make his way back to Morri's room, only for a gun to be poked in his back before he was shoved into a cleaning closest and roughly seated down.

"I wan't to know a few things, who do you work for, why are you after the Garou pup, and why I shouldn't ventilate you're skull."

"Ah, I had pegged that you weren't really FBI." Lestrange replied. "You seemed, excuse the term, amateurish."

"Though I shalt answer your last question first; if I die then a load of other people will also die as an oil refinery a few miles away on the coast will explode."

"No doubt you're asking yourself whether I'm bluffing to say my own skin." Smiled Lestrange. "Let me ask you this; how willing are you to find out and can you live with having condemned a good hundred or so people to death?"

The Hospital.

He was bluffing, or he wasn't bluffing. Either way Jonah couldn't find him self really able to care. Leaning in, he planted the muzzle of the pistol's suppressor on his forehead. "Indeed, Amateurish. But here's the thing, Wyrm bitch, In all likelihood I'v killed more people with my bare hands then you have on that rig, if it exists." He smiled, a plan starting to form in his head. "I'm a vary, vary bad man, Mr. Suit, I'v killed many, many people, hell, even eaten a few, both raw and cooked, so while I am flattered you'd think you can bluff me, let's not let any misunderstanding's form between us."

Reaching up slowly, he racked the slide on the .454, ejecting an unspent round and chambering another one, the large hallow point falling to the tile floor. "I need information, you have it. You wan't to continue living, breathing, enjoying the corrupted, slimy life you and other Wyrm tainted like you live. Now I wan't that information, and since I'm no Kindred blood witch who can read your memories after ripping your throat out, i'm giving you the chance to tell me what I need with out puting one of these vary big, and vary expensive semi-high explosive hallow points through you're kneecaps."

Pressing a little harder on his forehead, his smiled widened. "So, why don't you tell me what I want to know."

Lestrange

"In a hurry are we?" Lestrange asked, seemingly unfazed by the gun against his forehead. "No? Then again I suppose you do not have any reason to believe that you ought to be."

"Though you're that Changeling, the one who thinks he's a two-bit gangster and has been seizing territory in Chinatown aren't you?" Replied Lestrange. "You have a rivalry don't you? A guy called Manning, someone whom we've considered taking out ourselves."

"Alright, I think I shalt indulge you for a moment." Lestrange smiled. "Now despite what you may think of me....Wyrm Drone I believe you called me...I do care about my employees and, by extension, their families."

"The girl you see, the one you called 'Garou pup', her father is one of my employees and I came in to see what help I could provide even if its covering the medical bill."

Alexei stood with Morri during the tense conversation with her parents, and listened as she pleaded with Gaia to help her. He could feel an odd spiritual presence ripple by him, and he turned to see that Morri’s face had become calmer, more serene. She had prayed, and something had answered her. He turned back to see that Morri’s parents consequentially agreed with their daughter’s suggestion. He was a little chilled, but then he remembered his own uncle was capable of far, far worse.

He let the conversation continue, and smiled to Morri’s father as he threatened to harm him, if anything happened to his daughter. “Of course, sir. I will make sure she is safe. Please be safe getting home. Thank you for placing your trust in me,” he answered. When they left, he turned back to Morri, and stood by her bed. “...There are some armed officers outside the building. If you wish to get out, you’ll have to be very careful. But first you’ll probably have to talk to the doctor. I’m sure the parents will explain why they are leaving, but I hope you told them to tell the doctor that you wish to leave,” he reasoned.

He found a pen and paper, and quickly scribbled something on it. He then put the paper in Morri’s pocket. “...Sorry for that. I wrote down my number. I’m not going to leave you by yourself, but in case we get separated, or in case you need my help at all, please contact me at that number. Rather few people talk to me anyway, so I will know your number even if you don’t add me as a contact,” he joked. He then looked at her restraints. “...Do you plan to get out of those, or do you wish for me to undo them? I...trust that your abilities will allow you to heal...but I would rather remain by your side anyway. After all, your father has sworn you into my protection.”

Before her parents left, Morri gave them the contact details of a Glass Walker Kinfolk she knew and figured would be able to help them. Course, she only told them it was a person she knew and they should be able to help if her name was mentioned. Morri was actually suppose to be meeting this Glass Walker herself, least until her night got seriously sidetracked. Still she figured it would be a Glass Walker who'd be the best placed to help her parents and possibly even her if they found out about her present situation.

When Alexei said about leaving the hospital, a noticeable change in tune, Morri hesitated a moment before replying. "I... I... I'm not sure wot I want ta do now."

"How and when I get out I'll need ta explain everything ta Connor, but tis not something I wanna do just yet." Morri continued. "I'd rather have a couple o' days ta get me head straight 'fore I do back ta the docks and me pack, but I ain't got anywhere else ta go."

"I'm grateful fer yer help and kindess, I really am, but I don't wanna be a burden fer ye."

Alexei listened as Morri gave some details about a friend to her parents, wondering what exactly this unknown person could do for them. He was apprehensive about letting such a person go on their own, and he frowned as he stood by the bed thinking. His eyes clouded over, and his mind moved back to Morri and Anna’s connection. No matter what decision he made, he had to keep both of them safe. Of course, Anna had no trouble fending for herself, but Morri had a threat standing right outside her door. The doctor would also want to know what transpired in the room, so long as he could legally know anything that happened.

When Morri expressed doubts about her options, Alexei turned to her and stood in silence for a moment. He then smiled as an idea came to him. He was not sure whether or not he would be able to pull it off without upsetting his own allies, but he figured the option was the safest for Morri. “I think the best option is to tell the doctor you want to leave. I can call him back in the room, and you can let him know. Then I can unstrap you, or he can. And you can stay in my apartment with me for a couple of days.”

So she is connected to Connor then, he understood, nodding to himself as he committed that fact to memory. He had no problem with Morri seeing his small abode, nor did he have any trouble allowing Connor to see it. Of course, the only problem would be that Anna would see his home for herself. Then again, she had already been there, if only in his dreams. She already knew his home. He wondered if being in the house would spark some gentle feelings in Anna. Maybe she’ll feel something...and she won’t do anything to harm Morri. He knew Anna would not harm him in his own home either, not in any way beside maybe giving him more of an existential headache. Of course, Katarina and Nikolai could always come looking for him, but Anna’s word and existence trumped any authority they had. And in his own home, he would stand his ground if necessary. “If you’re fine with that option, until Connor comes to get you. I’ll be sure to buy some nice liquor for when he comes to visit,” he joked.

"Hm, best make it a keg....tis Connor we're talking 'bouts here." Replied Morri. "Trust me, I've run with his pack fer the past year or so."

"If yer happy fer me ta stay at yer place, then sure....I guess." Morri continued. "I'm sure I could convince the doctor ta let me leave, best if he undid the straps...ye know, ta keep him happy."

"Though there are certain...parties that know me face and I'd rather 'em not see me, Mr Evil Suit Guy especially. Gonna need a headscarf or a hat or something, just something ta wear 'til we're clear o' the hospital. Once we're clear I can try shifting and then heal better, least I'd be able ta move much better then."

"OK..." She sighed. "Better call the doctor back in 'fore he starts getting his wig in a twist."

Jonah Gave a soft chuckle. "Can't bullshit The Hell Walker bub. But...let us try another avenue then, shall we."

Keeping the gun planted on the Wolfs head he went through his pockets. "To my recollection, not many Children of the Wyld ever fell to the powers of the Wyrm." Leaning in, he took a long sniff as he worked his wallet out of his rear pocket. "And your not fully Human, which tells me you're one of The lost Tribe." Finally pulling the gun back from Lestrange's head he shifted through his wallet, leaving the good amount of cash, credit cards, and pictures alone before finding his company ID. "Ah, here we are."

"Pentex...that megacorp responsible for the death of the American Small Business..." The Ogre shrugged in the dim light. "In retrospect I should have seen this." Tossing his wallet on his lap, Jonah holstered the .454. "One of the things I learned a long time ago was that friends and family aren't who your related to, it's who does right by you." For a moment he though of Sofia and Morri and the Garou. "I am a child of the Fae, of the Wyld, but my own kind has done fuck all for me and while it boils my blood to not snap your neck and eat you whole, I am looking to do the same to Terrance Manning and the Brujah."

Stepping towards the door, "So then in the interest of mutual goals, I offer you a simple deal: We both work to kill manning, and in return neither party goes after each other's assets." Turning towards the door, he paused. "Think about it, tell your bosses, you know were to contact me and my people if you should wish to speak further."

Opening the door and stepping out of the hallway, he shot the man a smile. "I'd stay in here till we are gone, for you're own safety."

He shut the door and walked down the hall.

Morrdh wrote:"Hm, best make it a keg....tis Connor we're talking 'bouts here." Replied Morri.

Alexei chuckled at Morri’s jab at Connor. He missed Connor’s company, oddly enough. The elder Garou was honest and friendly toward him, in a way that none of the male friends in his life were. He of course was always either outrageously drunk or belligerent, but otherwise he seemed to be good company when he was around him. He knew in his mind that he would be glad to see him. “I don’t think I can buy a keg, but I’ll be sure to find something nice. As for you, we can always just let you borrow some of my clothes as a disguise. I believe we’re...almost the same size?”

He did not think much on the ramifications of letting a girl borrow his clothes, but in his defense, he knew that neither Anna nor Katarina could fit in his clothes. And anyway, he had no romantic intentions with Morri. He was providing her with shelter, going out of his way and beyond what was safe for him, in order to help her against a powerful enemy. “...I have plenty of scarves at my house. Sometimes I wish California was chilly more often. But yes, I’ll go get Dr. Lewis.”

He walked outside and called the doctor and the nurse in the room. Both of them were rather confused that they had been left in the hallway for so long, and then Morri’s parents had left without much of a word to either of them. Now Alexei stood with the Garou, who seemed to be in high spirits despite her condition. Dr. Lewis stepped forward, nevertheless, and engaged with her, curious as to the reason behind the sudden turn of events. “Miss Morrigan, did you have any other questions? Your...parents left in quite a hurry without you, do you wish for me to retrieve them?” he inquired.

Morri

"Some o' yer....clothes?" Morri asked with a look of bemused puzzlement on her. "Alright, I guess."

"No, tis fine....there was an urgent matter they had ta attend ta and they are also grabbing some things fer me." Answered Morri in response to Dr Lewis' question, though focusing her will to add weight to her words as she used her Persuasion gift once again. "But I've decided that I want ta go home. Now."

"Ye can't legally keep me here against me own will." Morri added quickly to forestall any arguments from the doctor. "Just give me some meds, a back brace, a wheelchair and ye can discharge me inta the care o' Alexei here."

"Look, I'll come back fer checkups." She promised. "Tis just that I hate being in hospitals and rather be somewhere more familiar and comfortable."

Lestrange

After Jonah had left, Lestrange started to chuckle and it soon grew into full blown laughter. He was still giggling as he left the closest and then walked down the corridor to get a cup of coffee from a vending machine. If the Ogre had any sense he would've simply killed Markus and be done with it, yet instead he let a potentially dangerous foe walk free. No doubt the Ogre would come to regret his decision in due course.

"Lestrange," Markus said, answering his phone after it had started ringing. "Tell the team to cover all the exits, I do not want Little Red to leave without us knowing about it but do not engage unless I give the order. The Ogre is here, so we're gonna need some heavy support standing by."

"Oh, whilst you're at it schedule a meeting with a Mr Manning in Inglewood....we have a business proposal to discuss."

"Oh, whilst you're at it schedule a meeting with a Mr Manning in Inglewood....we have a business proposal to discuss."

Dr. Lewis could not help but be baffled by Morri’s suggestion that she leave. “Miss O’Mallie, your tests are not back from the labs yet, and I have to go check your x-rays. Ah...” He paused, as Morri refuted his argument with some help from Persuasion. Tamaria could only look on in bafflement as the doctor became quiet...and then quietly changed his mind, seemingly without reason. He smiled and nodded. “Very well. We will allow you to leave with a wheelchair and a back brace, but do be careful. As for medication, simply taking some pain medication will help with your side effects.”

“Now hold on just a mi-”

Tamaria was shocked into silence as Dr. Lewis turned and nodded to her, as if to tell her to obey his order. She knew that Morri would be leaving Against Medical Advice, but she could not keep the patient in the hospital, even if she was in severe pain and possibly had spinal injuries. She let the doctor walk over to Morri’s bed and unstrap her, wincing as she hoped that the girl would not suffer some sort of damage instantly. “...Ooh I don’t like this at all...Now what are we gonna tell the radiologists, that she’s miraculously fine and that she can just-”

“Tamaria, the patient has the right to request to leave. She is 18.”

“She had a seizure! Her friend brought her in, and he seems to have no problem with this?!”

Alexei did have a problem, but he knew that Morri did not want to stay. He trusted her abilities, and hoped his roll of the dice was a decent one. When he saw the brace come off, and Morri did not immediately fall into spasms, he sighed his relief. The morphine was working, and her injuries were not quite as severe as he had feared. Medical procedure would have its place in any normal circumstance, but now one could see that Morri would be well. Dr. Lewis then turned to Tamaria and ordered her to get the wheelchair and brace. The exasperated nurse hurried to get the requested equipment, while Dr. Lewis talked to Morri about taking care of herself and following-up on her at-home care. In the meantime, her companion walked out the room to check the hallways.

He did not see Jonah, though the men in black were still standing around, spooking some of the medical personnel who walked by. Turning to look around, he decided to go get a drink, sighing his relief as his plan seemed to be working. Catching Lestrange by the vending machine, he managed to pick-up a code phrase: “Little Red.” Standing by the wall, he listened, and knew now that the man definitely had plans for Morri. As soon as the phone call ended, he walked to the vending machine and put in a quarter, getting himself a bottle of water. He then stood by Lestrange, and looked him in the eye. “...You are Morri’s father’s boss, yes? My name is Alexei. I’m a friend of hers. Do you mind if perhaps we speak somewhere beside this area?...”

Lestrange

“...You are Morri’s father’s boss, yes? My name is Alexei. I’m a friend of hers. Do you mind if perhaps we speak somewhere beside this area?...”

Lestrange looked round at the young man with a look of mild annoyance before answering. "Yes, that's correct."

"Yes, I do believe I saw you beside her bed." Lestrange continued. "Its rare to see somebody who cares so deeply for another...."

"You wish to talk? Very well then, perhaps the hospital's cafeteria?"

Morri

Morri only half-hearted listened as Dr Lewis spoke, only nodding her head or answering verbally when it appeared the doctor expected a response from her. She was really more focused on thinking how her and Alexei would leave the hospital, Alexei could simply walk out whilst Morri's face was known to the wrong parties. It wasn't stated which company or entity Lestrange actually worked for, but Morri reckoned she could make a pretty good guess as to who or what it might be. Though she really really hoped she was wrong, it raised far too many uncomfortable questions if she was right.

At last the nurse returned with the back brace and wheelchair as had been requested, though Morri saw as clear as day the sour look on the woman's face. Sucks ta be ye, Morri thought to herself. Though as Morri half-expected, the nurse was a little less gentle than she could've been as she helped Morri with getting the back brace on. Morri herself gritting her teeth and sharply inhaling air when the pain in her back flared up as she moved. With back brace on the nurse then helped, again with a little less care than was needed, Morri into the wheelchair before the paperwork for Morri's discharge was sorted and her belongings returned.

“...I...don’t think we need to go too far, to talk...just not in the lobby,” Alexei answered. He kept an eye on the door, wondering how long Lestrange’s men would take to get to the hospital. No matter what, he figured that once they arrived, the violence would erupt, as Jonah and his own men were ready to fight. He needed to get her out as quickly as possible. In the meantime, he stood next to Lestrange, walking more toward the hallway to talk to him. All the while, he kept Morri in his line-of-vision, knowing he could attack her at any moment.

They stood by the hallway, careful not to block traffic. Alexei adjusted his sweater a little, feeling some of Morri’s residual warmth on it. “...I only wish to make sure that innocent people are safe...It is my duty,” he explained to the man, keeping his voice soft and even. “...Unfortunately, I happened to hear your conversation, while I was coming to get a drink. I suppose that given the circumstances, and given that Morri does have bright-red hair, you were discussing keeping her from leaving the hospital. I’m afraid that cannot happen.” He folded his arms, showing he was being both distant and diplomatic.

“...Her father has asked that I take care of her. Which means that she is now under my protection. Because she wishes to leave, she has a legal right to do so, and I will simply keep her in my care until she is well enough to go her own way. I agreed to this arrangement, and hope to see it through. You were planning to bring some men into the hospital to block our exit. I fear that won’t be wise. I cannot quite tell you why it would not be wise, but considering the fact that...there is always the possibility of a gun fight between yourself and...the special forces by her room...You would be putting yourself and your company’s image in danger. So I hope you will listen to reason.”

"You know, in the eyes of the law, what you just said could almost be considered slander." Lestrange replied. "Though in less...civilised climes you probably would've been gutted for that."

"Yes, I've already had the...pleasure of meeting your friend the brute." Continued Lestrange, pausing to sip his coffee. "He has already expressed his disdain for my person, though we've managed to come to a most amicable business arrangement."

"Besides, I do believe your brutish compatriot is about to have other matters to contend with..." Lestrange said, nodding towards a team of FBI agents who'd just arrived. "I'm led to understand that the authorities take a rather dim view of persons masquerading as Federal agents."

"As for me, if you'll excuse me I'd like to finish this coffee and see if the early edition of today's papers are in yet." Said Lestrange as he started to walk off, only to call back over his shoulder. "Though tell me one thing Mr Bancroft, do you play chess?"

“Unfortunately there are security cameras in the lobby of a hospital. Your conversation with...someone...has already been recorded. I don’t know if making a reasonable deduction is considered slander...but I unfortunately cannot vouch for his position. All I know is that I was here to make sure my friend was safe. And I am continuing to keep her safe.” He took a sip of his water bottle, and stared at Lestrange. He was a flippant, arrogant fellow, but not without his manners. He was also a snake in the grass, unafraid of a naive-looking fellow such as Alexei. The latter knew he would not be able to outright intimidate Lestrange, so he would have to navigate past him.

Alexei nodded as he put the cap back on his bottle. “...I play a little...My father taught me a little...He said it was important to be able to analyze other people...They’re not always who they seem...” He turned toward him. “I don’t know if you want to play a game of chess right here, unless that is your intention. But regardless, the FBI agents will be dealing with him, not with Morri, who was here for legitimate reasons. I just need to leave with her, and that will be the end of it.”

"No, no....I was merely asking." Replied Lestrange. "Though I do hope you understand the role that each piece plays and the different strategies employed to counter said pieces."

"Security cameras only record visual footage, they do not record audio. I could have just been speaking to my PA about buying a toy for my daughter." Countered Lestrange. "Besides, it would be your word against that of a respected corporate manager."

"I must say that you have great trust in your brutish friend if you believe he'll handle the FBI...diplomatically." Lestrange said, taking another sip of his coffee. "I will not stop you and the girl from leaving, though I suggest making haste before your brute of a friend makes things messy..."

“I understand somewhat. I’m not a master, but I know enough.” Alexei answered, knowing that Lestrange held a threat in each word, trying to make this nobody afraid of the power he held. Yet the former Inquisitor knew that he had no reason to be afraid. As long as he could get Morri out of danger, he had no reason to fear. He gave the slightest smile as Lestrange countered him, adding, “...I don’t imagine you would say for guards to come to block your daughter from leaving a hospital. I might not be experienced in the art of guile, but I understand when I am being played for a fool. Now, if you’ll excuse me...Please have a good day.”

He hurried away, as the doctors finished Morri’s paperwork. She was in a wheelchair with a brace, and while she showed some discomfort on her face, she was holding up her head without any issues. He sighed, and walked to the wheelchair. He then took it as Morri was released to leave, and he looked out the door. “...Let’s hurry and leave. Maybe you know a way to sneak out?...I don’t feel going out the front door is rather sneaky, unless you think going out the back is the better option,” he whispered to Morri.

"Ye took yer time." Morri smiled when Alexei returned, though she looked a little pale from the pain and a little drowsy thanks to the effects of the morphine. "Was getting impatient ta see wot the speed and handling was like on this thing."

Morri tried not to smile openly as she saw the look of disapproval on the faces of both the nurse and the doctor, even though they weren't happy with the whole situation Morri was giving them reason to be glad to be rid of her. She smiled sweetly back at them, making them both sigh and shake their heads. The doctor stated they could go and Morri quickly spoke, forestalling the nurse. "We know the out way, thanks. Alexei if ye'll be a dear and push..."

"I've got an idea or two." Morri whispered back once they were outside in the corridor. "But we're gonna need ta find a secluded spot fer it ta work."

Morri then explained her plan of trying to shift forms and hopefully heal her injuries in almost an instance, thus then making things considerably easier. She then explained that another of her gifts allowed her to pass by unseen, which is how she was able to enter the White Lotus unnoticed and sneak up on Alexei. Thus practicably invisible, she could walk out the front door of the hospital by Alexei's side and nobody would know.

Which is why we need to act with some haste,” Alexei murmured, as he rolled Morri away from the crowd. He then stood with her wheelchair, near the side of the lobby, and scanned the area. As Morri gave her idea, he figured to look for a place in which she could change her form. Not only would she be able to change into a disguise, but she would also heal all her injuries. He was relieved to know that she would be well, even before he got to her shelter.

“...Go into the girls’ bathroom, and you can change in there. Since you’ve already been released, there would be no reason for you to keep the wheelchair, once you’re healed. We can pass and make it look as though you are not even there. Just be quick and I’ll wait outside for you. You’ll have to wheel into the bathroom, however, for the idea to work. That way, I can just say you ditched the wheelchair.”

He then walked and wheeled her to the girls’ bathroom, and waited for the plan to take place. All the while, he turned to look back at Lestrange. He wondered now at the deal he had made with Jonah. If he had more time, he would talk to him about this mysterious transaction, but right now he needed to help Morri. “...Make sure to hurry. I’ll be out here waiting,” he reminded her.

Connor Mac Domhnaill

A whole year passed since the events with the Gangrel happened, and Connor slowly built himself back to the mental fortitude he once had. Obviously: the lack of his equally insane partner took a toll on him, and the arrival of Morri, a young Garou that is abundant in her tricks and resources, but has the luck of a French at war, made him slightly more responsible.

Sometimes, he spent minutes, even hours, sat down, watching the young Garous share their tales in and out of the Moots; even in this hellish city, they seemed to keep up the lust for living that seemed to compose the DNA of the Fianna. They laughed and cried at the same time after the bottles were found empty, and insisted that songs should be made about the giant man that now lead him; boxes filled with gifts came along with calls from their friends and loved ones; slowly, their base seemed to come alive, even if guns and knives were often spread around.

It was undeniable that Connor organized a significant part of the Garou presence in LA, and even if their numbers weren't that significant, they had to be taken seriously. However, even if some things changed, other remained the same; when a Theurge came running to him, he had an idea of what happened.

"- Connor, something is off. Really off. The Totem is... Crazy. One of us is under grave danger and I can't really say why, it's just... It's all over the place. It comes from the hospital, though. I feel like the Wyrm is moving on...

- I have just one question to ask. Is Ms. O'Malley here?

- I... Don't believe so.

- For Gaia's sake... Grab my weapons, I'll be going to get the car. In the best of circumstances, Morri is pregnant and in panic... But I doubt that the little trickster would pull such a boring trick and I doubt even more that her luck would allow her just that. Gear up, we're getting the young one back."

As the Garou gathered in the pickup truck and headed down to the hospital, Connor realized that if it was Pentex again, they already knew how he looked like, and given their network, it wouldn't be hard for them to enter and retrieve her. As the Garou left Connor in the car. The smell of the Wyrm infested their noses as they pretended they were just another bunch of young people, eager for a lascivious weekend... It was different. Just like rotten meat, it infested their lungs, but it wasn't just physical. There was a certain bother to the very core of their existence, like something didn't belong there: it was a dirt stain on a de la Renta dress; liquid waste poured in a Chanel Nº5; a tree that made apples filled with vermin fall out of its branches.

As they returned to Connor, the situation - at least in the manner they described - was terrible. It came to him that the only way possible to enter would be stepping between the worlds. As he left the weapons in the car and brought a Ragabash with him to the nearest alley and both stepped into the Penumbra. It was always a somewhat unsettling situation, to walk in the Penumbra, where things were and weren't at the same time; it was using the structures of the real world as a reference that Connor and his pack's Ragabash found themselves inside the hospital. The Ragabash mission was simple: to disguise himself as a doctor, playing the trickster part, while Connor walked through the corridors.

As they both left the rooms they managed to enter, the Garou outside stood ready for an intervention or a miraculous rescue. Inside, Connor stopped a nurse and politely asked about Morri, under the guise that she was the daughter of a dear relative. Somehow she bought Connor's story - maybe the similar accents helped him - and decided to guide him to her room, now empty given her recent release.

The chase took place through the hospital, until he met with the familiar face of Alexei in the lobby, as the nurse pointed out that he was the one accompanying Morri and certainly it wasn't a mere coincidence. Carefully, he walked to him as he scanned the place for any suspiciously looking men.

"Alexei, boy, I don't know what you're doing here but I'll make a safe bet that something happened with Morri and you were around... I also smell them around, all I need to know is what you're up to here so I can lend a hand."
Nothing to see here, move along.

Morri

Morri would've preferred it if Alexei was there to give her a hand, least make the task of standing up and getting the back brace off considerably easier. Needs must. She mused to herself as she positioned the wheelchair in front of one of the sinks, then placed her hands on the rim of the sink. With a grunt of effort and pain, she pulled herself out of the wheelchair until she was standing using the sink as support. A wave of dizziness washed over her as pain flared up in her back, she stood for a moment taking a few sharp breaths. Then as carefully as she could using one hand whilst the other helped propped her up, she undid the back brace with great difficulty and discarded it.

OK, so far so good...

Gritting her teeth, she focused her mind and concentrated as hard as she could as she tried to shift forms. The pain in her back flared, but she felt her body begin to shift and change shape as she heard some almost disconcerting sounds of bones cracking and crunching. Her muscles shifted and grew as her stature grew, pushing her to within a couple of inches of six foot tall. Her face also changed, taking on a more wild and feral look as she glanced in the mirror. Finally the shifting finished and the pain subsided in her back, allowing her to stand more freer though with a posture that bespoke a predatory intent. Her red hair had grown and flowed wildly from her head whilst both her teeth and nails had thickened and sharpened. Glazing back from the mirror Morri could see a more feral 'wolfwoman' version of herself, one that was just a shadow of her true killing power as a werewolf. Her Glabro form.

Well that worked.

She concentrated once again and shifted back to Homid form, her breed form, her Human form. Soon soon the image in the mirror changed back to Morri's normal self of a teenaged girl with red hair, green eyes and a cheeky grin. The cuts on her face had vanished and the pain in her back gone save for a twinge that she was sure would fade completely after a few days. She marvelled at the Garou's supernatural ability to heal injuries simply by shifting forms, something she wished she'd been allowed to do in the first place which could've avoided this whole mess. Granted, Alexei thought he was doing the right thing and didn't fully know the full capabilities of what a Garou is able to achieve and so Morri couldn't really blame him. Truth be told, it was something that she found sweet about him.

With her injuries taken care of she went to head back out into the corridor where Alexei was waiting, though something twigged in her mind as she picked up a familiar scent...

Feck, she cursed inwardly. Connor.

She was hoping that it would be at least a couple of days before she saw him, when she had the chance to get her head straight and figure out what the heck she was going to tell him. Oh, and also when she had the chance to lay her hands on a keg of the Emerald Isle's finest brew to placate him. Standing on the other side of the door to Alexei and Connor, she tried eavesdropping to see whether she could hear what they were saying. Though she had a sinking feeling that Alexei, thinking he was doing the right thing again, would give her away.
