The Swiss government has sent the body of Wilhelm Gustloff, ex-leader of the Swiss NSDAP/AO back to Germany via train, going from Davos to Schwerin, and made stops in Stuttgart, Würzburg, Erfurt, Halle, Magdeburg and Wittenberg Before finally stopping in his birthplace of Schwerin in Mecklenburg, and there he was given a state funeral with Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels, Hermann Göring, Heinrich Himmler, Martin Bormann and Joachim von Ribbentrop in attendance. Gustloff's widow, mother and brother attended the funeral and received personal condolences from Hitler. His assassin David Frankfurter remains at Bern in prison and is awaiting trial.

In other news, Swiss Winter Olympic team has left for Germany, 28 nations we will be at the winter Olympics with Switzerland among them. Alpine skiing will be at the games for the first time, along with Military patrol, the International Olympic Committee originally refused admission of this sport into the Olympic Program, but the expressed desires of Adolf Hitler forced the IOC to make this program a demonstration sport.

The Chilean state had been in an era of isolationism since the coup d'etat by the fascistic Nacistas who idolized the work of Adolf Hitler and Mussolini.

The chaos caused by the coup, including political instability, was quickly healed, as the leader of Chile, El Jefe, Jorge González von Marées, declared isolation for a few short years. Now, after only 2 years, the nation opened up once more.

Now that the political scene seemed stable, Marées sited the desire for conquest of "natural Chilean land" as their next goal. Before they could so however, German aid would be requested.

A letter arrives on the doorsteps of the German Minister of War Production. It reads, in delicate handwriting:

"Dear Mr. Minister,

I am the Leader, El Jefe, or der Führer in German, of the Chilean State. We, after our 1934 coup d'etat, modeled our nation after your own glorious National Socialistic Movement.

To maintain supremacy in our region of the world, we wish to establish ties between the Chilean State and the dominant Reich in Europe.

To this extent, we wish to ask for further German assistance, including but limited to:

•Rifles;
•Aircraft;
and
•Military Advisors.

If you could provide our State with this assistance, we will repay you by being longterm allies in the Americas, for as long as our regime stands.

In Bavaria, dozens of athletes from all across the world (But mostly Europe) began conglomerating in the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria - This was in exchange for National-Socialist Germany hosting the summer olympics that would occur later that year in Berlin. Austria would send the most athletes - A total of 60, while other nations ranged in how many athletes they sent to the games. Today was the day of the games' openings, which would last for ten more days until the 16th. Featured sports included skating, skiing, ice hockey, and bobsleigh - The winter sport of military patrol also was included in the game as a demonstration sport, largely due to pressure from Adolf Hitler in Germany.

President Ignacy Mościcki and the Polish government would send twenty athletes to the games - It has yet to be seen how good they'll do.

In a small military installation just outside of Warsaw, President Ignacy Mościcki and Prime Minister Marian Zyndram-Kościałkowski, both wearing rather thick coats in opposition to the frigid Polish winter, met with military leaders from all across the nation. The military base in question was defined by several newer tank models - Rows of them, in fact - parked in a dirt lot, with rows of brick barracks and other facilities surrounded by a wired fence. The two leaders were here to inspect these tanks in action - They ranged from smaller tankettes, to the more formidable 7TP (Twin-turreted and single-turret) and Vickers 6-tonners.

5 Chilean athletes entered the games, with the hope of practicing for the 1936 Olympic Games.

The athletes are noticeably worse than any European athlete. However, when compared to other South American nations, Chile has one of, if not the best, athletic team.

With the Polish state now having a filled Foreign Minister position, it was time to mend relations with other European nations. Minister Stanisław Grabski wrote a communique to the nations of Great Britain and Bavaria, stating:

It is indeed troubling that ideologies such as communism and fascism are only on the rise in Europe, and their exponential military growth and disregard of the Treaty of Versailles is frightening. I also want to apologize for our last Foreign Minister's behavior and stances towards your nations, Mr. Beck.

Munich-Kingdom of Bavaria
Bavaria stands at a crossroads.

Just 16 years ago, the Bavarian monarchists, with the backing of the people, overthrew the unpopular republican government and reinstated a constitutional monarchy under Prince Rupprecht. Although economic troubles, incursions by Germany, the humiliation of continued reparations payments coupled with diplomatic isolation has taken it's toll, the ship of the Bavarian state has weathered everything that has been thrown at it thus far.

However, new challenges and hazards come again. In the north, the tin-pot dictatorship of Adolf Hitler has taken power, thus renewing the threat of another German invasion. In response to Hitler's rearmament, Bavaria has redoubled it's own efforts, modernizing it's army and purchasing or developing new weapons. Reforms, however, have been slow to roll out due to lingering economic challenges, and most of the army is either potentially unreliable, or untrained and untested.

Bavaria needs allies. It needs friends.
But it cannot trust the Czechoslovakians, nor the Austrians or Germans. Allying with the Gallic Rooster is out of the question, and the British lion, while powerful, is fickle and possible unprepared for another European war. The American Eagle is a joke, as is the Confederate Eagle. That leaves only one option-The Polish, the stalwart defenders of Catholicism since the Medieval Age. Their previous foreign minister, however, had been less than friendly, and they had nothing on their new minister...

King Rupprecht pondered over this as he paced about his office, only for an aide to knock at the door.
"Your Majesty. A letter from the Polish Foreign Ministry."
"Come in." he replied, hands trembling with excitement. The minute the aide entered, he grabbed the letter from the aide and tore open the envelope, grinning with joy.

Immediately he sat down and began writing his reply.

To Minister Grabski of Poland, blessed among the nations;
We eagerly welcome your friendship! May our lances be joined once more at this dark hour, just as they were at Vienna in 1683, and may the tyrants in Russia and Germany fear us!
There is no need to apologize for the behavior of your predecessor either-all is forgiven.

The opening ceremony would be held in true Bavarian fashion-Beer. Free beer for all, plus military parades, if the gathering troops and constant orders for beer by the cask-load was any indication. The Bavarians had sent 10 athletes to each event-save for the military patrol, which saw a full platoon of crack troops from the 3rd Company, 1st Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Brigade, 1st Division.

The Era of the Monarchy

The Iranians were dissatisfied with their position in the world. For years, Iran had been in the midst of a great tug-of-war between the United Kingdom and Russia, both of whom sought to extract profit from Iran and gain influence over it because of its strategic position.

Reza Shah Pahlavi, the Shahanshah of Iran, recognized this and created a foreign policy to counter foreign interference. He pitted the UK and Russia against each other so neither of them could manipulate Iran and he interacted with countries, such as Germany, that were against the UK and Russia and did not seek to control Iran in order to reduce British and Russian influence.

The Iranians, however, were dissatisfied with Pahlavi, too. His government became an autocracy and he began suppressing non-Persian cultures so he could use Persian culture to unite the country. Angered by both the Iranian monarchy and by foreign powers, the Iranian people took the matter into their own hands.

January 1, 1936

On this day, leftist nationalist republicans led by Abbas Aryanpour, a man from Isfahan, engaged in a bloody battle in Tehran against the pro-Pahlavi Iranian military. Despite heavy losses, the republicans eventually won, deposed Pahlavi, and established a republican government with Aryanpour as President.

This government, similarly to Pahlavi, sought to prevent foreign encroachment onto Iran and wanted a powerful Iran. However, Aryanpour believed in civic nationalism rather than ethnic nationalism and he did not want to Westernize the country like Pahlavi did.

President Aryanpour declared in a public address the dismantlement of the monarchy and the establishment of the State of Iran, a new republic. He asked that countries around the world recognize the republican government as the legitimate one.

With no material support or allies Italy continued guns blazing. Underdeveloped economy was hindering the posibilities of modern materials. Military equipment was few and lacked quality in this time despite the amount of government expenditure being put into armed services.
Advances were made on the northern front as Mussolini was now allowed to use poison gas. From January 20th to the 24th they defeated more Ethiopian forces.

Febuary 6th, Winter Olympics
Italy sends 40 athletes to the games in Bavaria, all being slightly lower in skill than other athletic teams in Europe.

February 10th
The Italian army won the Battle of Amba Aradam which caused major losses for the Ethiopians, including the death of one of their commanders. The Italians lost 800 but were successful.

The DRSC's leader, Alexi Valtero, and other politicians, had a debate about if they would join the allies. On 11th February, A telegram was sent to Winston Churchill, saying the following:

The Germans end up sending a number of 55 athletes, all approved by Hitler and all supposedly reflecting the Nazi vision and the ideal Nazi person, to the Bavarian 1936 olympics. Hitler himself planned on congratulated the athletes in person on their return to Deutschland - Or, rather, the successful ones. He had, however, gone to rather great lengths to ensure that all German athletes are well trained, or at least well prepared, for the winter and summer olympics - The latter of which the Germans themselves would be hosting in Berlin.

Meanwhile, over 100,000 workers were employed in the construction of the autobahn highway network, of which several portions had already been completed, with some even already having been opened. The swiftness of the projects pleased Hitler - and, importantly, the people. However, these highways weren't built to be militarily vital - Tanks would damage the roadways, trains were much more efficient when it came to transporting military equipment over nationwide distances, and the medians of viable stretches of roadway would need to be paved over for planes to land on them. These autobahns, however, made way at the Bavarian border for other construction, this being one of a more sinister nature. Wired fencing, positions for artillery, and bunkers were being constructed as a military camp that would be able to supply thousands of soldiers was being built somewhere near the town of Fulda.

In regards to Italy, many in Hitler's cabinet weren't particularly surprised when the Fuhrer made an abrupt decision to send a division of 5,000 volunteers to Italy to aid in their conflict against Ethiopia and to take up positions in mainland Italy in a move of support for their fascist allies. Hitler understood that a war with Italy fought by the British would result in the underbelly of Europe being wide open to occupation by those who wanted to see Germany fall and its people killed (In his mind, anyways), and that was something he couldn't risk - Under any conditions. Thus, a telegram was promptly sent to the Italians informing them of the deployment of these volunteers, and they made haste to embark on their transports in the North Sea, which would head towards Italy once cleared before finally advancing on Italian Africa (With half of the volunteers staying behind in southern Italy).

A telegram sent by the Nazi minister and, with great interest, approved by Adolf Hitler would be sent in response to the Chileans with great haste. It contained the following:

These ties between two nations of military tradition and of the superior set of beliefs that are endowed in fascism will be most welcome. Though our efforts lay elsewhere in regards to production of munitions and armaments, we shall be most obligated to sell our older tank and rifle models, as well as production rights for some of our newer equipments. Furthermore, a detachment of trained military advisors under a Generalmajor who will be introduced to Chile shortly - He and his detachment are on their way.

WINTER OLYMPICS RESULTS - TOP 10 NATIONS, Bavaria, February 16
Several hundred athletes had participated in the games by the closing ceremony that occurred on the 16th - Over 700, in fact, with a large number of Bavarian athletes participating in general. Among the usual European nations that usually sent athletes, newcomers to the games such as Chile and China also sent athletes.

The Chinese performance caused significant uproar among many of the European athletes who still viewed Asians with suspicion or as inferior - Adolf Hitler, when he saw the results, was particularly enraged at this - At how an Asian nation was let into a "European's Games", in his mind.

At the news of Germany's acceptance of Chile, von Marées began using whatever equipment sent by Germany and the German advisors to begin training and modernizing the Chilean army.

The celebration of the German alliance is cut short, when the 5 Chilean athletes sent to Bavaria are shot down from the sky over Bolivia.

Von Marées comes on over primarily radio and makes a speech announcing the Chilean response:

"My dear Chileans,

Early this afternoon, our brave athletes sent to Bavaria for the first time ever in Chilean history were brutally and mercilessly slaughtered by the Bolivians. Their lives cut short for no apparent reason other than hatred of Chilean people and their ideals.

We cannot let this stand! They made a mistake that will not be forgiven in our lifetime! The Bolivian state, no longer desiring to keep peace, must be dealt with swiftly and strongly.

With that said... people of Chile... I wish no war upon your lives. I don't wish to bring suffering to your proud families, or make your dear children go off to see the horrors of war.

I am delivering an ultimatum to the bastards in Bolivia. Three months! Three months to utterly surrender the minimum of the rightful Chilean land that borders our mighty nation, which would include the regions of Potosí, Oruro, and La Paz if not more, but if they refuse then war will be declared.

This is your leader, I love you all. Por la razón o la fuerza!"

The army size is doubling, from 50,000 to 100,000, in preparation.

Either the land is given or war is coming. Too bad the Bolivians never shot down any planes, but the public doesn't need to know that.

Nordic Confederation Cabinet Room, Stockholm, Sweden

Prime Minister Nygaardsvold sat with his cabinet, mostly made up of Swedes, he was by no means the only Norwegian, and indeed there were even one or two people from Iceland, they were the government of Scandinavia, well most of it as it were, the Danes had continued to reject proposals for Union, and with the Rise of Communism and Fascism, Nygaardsvold worried that unified Scandinavia would be the only hope for a free Scandinavia.

As it were the Confederation maintained good relations with almost all of the world's powers. Their trade of Iron Ore and Steel to Germany ensured them the good graces of Herr Hitler, and thus Mussolini, while their strategic location and core democratic values endeared them to the West. This was a safe, if precarious position to be in, and for now the Scandinavians would focus on the consolidation of power within their nation.

The military, while fairly large was also disorganized considering the recent status of the Union, and while it became more cohesive everyday, a large focus was to be made on the modernization of the air force as well as large scale ground exercises to increase the effectiveness of the Army. As such an international tender was to be drawn up.

International Tender: Swedish Fighter Aircraft

Sweden would like to acquire either the license to produce or a contract to purchase a modern fighter aircraft from the nations of the world. We welcome all nations to compete for this tender and look forward to reviewing the aircraft submitted for our review.

I would like to invite your ever-gracious leadership to Krakow by the 10th of this month to formalize our friendship with a treaty, one that shall announce the formation of our alliance and define the terms of it. And may God guide our nations triumphantly through the dark mists of the future! Because of Italy's refusal to halt their invasion of Ethiopia and withdraw all military forces, the Suez Canal will be closed to all Italian and German shipping and Italian ports in East Africa and the Horn of Africa will be blockaded by Royal Navy warships to prevent any more supplies from reaching Italian and German troops. Any attack on Royal Navy ships and planes will be considered an act of war against the British Empire.
