UN Security Council Chamber, New York City, USA

Foreign Minister Abdullah Naseem Pasha waited for the Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister's words to be translated before he began to speak. "Our government's wishes are simple: that any and all British troops leave the territory of the Kingdom, as His Majesty, King Farouk, demanded back in 1946. We also ask that the ownership of the Suez Canal be transferred over to our government. His Majesty's government has no intention of closing the Canal to anyone, all we ask for is ownership. If the signing of a treaty guaranteeing that the Canal will remain open will put the minds of all at ease, His Majesty's government is willing to sign such a treaty. His Majesty's government is also willing to compensate the British and French stakeholders of the company, per the Suez Canal Nationalization Act that passed in the Parliament earlier this year."

The Supremo was spying outside the Nielsen Airport, spotting the car of President Sergio Osmeña who just won the election for the new Commonwealth.

"Don't you think he's going to New York? The Commonwealth already signed the Declaration of the UN," said his loyal aide Elpidio Quirino. Supremo replied, "I think so." "Well, let's get back to HQ."
"Supremo, we have received the reply letters of the Soviet Union and Spain. Their replies are positive," Minister Alejandrino said. "Great! We'll have to reply to them what we need," Roxas answered.

Greetings!

We all are of the same heritage. We are all bonded with one Oriental blood. We were all once peaceful, already independent and able to act as sovereign. Then the time comes, the Westerners quickly savaged our nations. Divided us into such cruel administrations that were only to take advantage of us. Now that almost all of us are already independent, there is another threat that coming upon us.

America, the new emerging superpower after the ashes of the Second Great War, was able to assert its influence in Asia, through our country. Their imperialist demands are a threat to all of us. But we, the Katipunan of Filipinas want to push back their influence as far as a million kilometers if needed by our independence, that will ensure American imperialism to stop in Asia. In our journey to revolution, may we ask your support, might be moral, financial or military, for our countries to continue coexisting for the next generations.

Thank you,
Casto Alenjandrino,
Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Katipunan

[Finishing USBR]

Chervenkov, in hiding saw the USSR rolling through his nation of The USBR and thought to himself, I should never have let Parhon on that hunting trip. I guess I either have to put myself, or find a way out of this. Chervenkov took a drink of vodka and called for his confidant to come in. The confidant came in and said,
“What’s going on?”

Chervenkov replied, “I have a major crisis on my hands and was wondering if you could help me with something. I don’t want to be tortured in Moscow by their secret police, nor do I want to be a coward and simply flee like the rebels did. Could you help me in obtaining a delayed release capsule for me? It would contain a poison that would take a couple days to fully do its job. I will out myself in Sofia and begin my own movement with a driver towards Moscow demanding that Stalin himself come pick me up. If he comes I will take the pill. Chervenkov went out of his hiding spot near Tiraspol and headed straight into the heart of the USSR towards Moscow. On the car was a sign that wrote "Joseph Stalin, I dare you to personally arrest me!" and a picture of him sitting in a chair barking out orders while he does nothing but sit on his hands.

(Will continue as Chervenkov until he dies or gets disappeared.)

[Canada]

Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent had sent his foreign minister, Lester Pearson to the New York United Nations summit. St. Laurent had instructed Pearson to ask the UK about anything they need to get done, and to further relations with the other anglophone nations. Pearson had entered the UNSC room and took his seat with the rest of his Canadian delegation Pearson along with the Permanent Delegate to the UN, Robert Ridell, and opened the agenda and saw the Suez Crisis as the headliner for the meeting. He listened to the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Abdullah Naseem Pasha, speak and thought to himself 'Even though the British did build it, they did so with Egyptian labour. Britain could afford to give the canal over to the Egyptian government and the Egyptians could declare the canal a tax free zone allowing free and unlimited use of it. I also need to discuss the USSR growing in power and further quashing any democratic movements as what happened in the former USBR.' He took a sip of water and dictated some notes to his assistant.

Sir Cadogen, after the Egyptian rep. speaks, gets up to attempt to resolve this quickly. "My Prime Minister has come up with a way for everyone to benefit. I'm asking that if Egypt were to cross into the Suez to take it by force, that the United Nations would intervene. In exchange, the entire canal zone will become a International Neutral Passage, but under British advisement. If the canal is closed by anyone during the unstable peace, that nation will have sanctions automatically raised on them. More canals and straits like the Bosphoros and the Strait of Gibraltar can be added to this list at another date. The Soviet Union will gain more access to the Middle East, as we couldn't close the canal except for repairs to damage, and the British Empire can keep its country together." He sits down after saying this.

After having a short conversation for a bit, Malan and Andrews both received the message from the man of steel himself.

While Andrews merely sighed in defeat, Malan clenched his fists before shouting, "The hypocrite!" He then continued, explaining himself, "This is coming from the man who ice-picked Trotsky and purged vast swaths of his own party! Protecting socialists?! Even now, I'm hearing news that he's forcibly separating Bulgaria and Romania. Obviously, Stalin can keep socialist movements on a leash all he wants."

"I am quite sure that Romania and Bulgaria are close enough to the USSR for them to have more control," Andrews noted, "But, I think anyone with a basic grasp of history can realize Stalin's flip-flopping positions."

"Yes, and that is because Stalin is exactly the sort of leader that a godless nation would produce. One without moral values," Malan said.

"I'm an atheist, Malan. You think I lack moral virtue?" Andrews asked.

Malan let out an exhausted sigh, "I apologize. You...definitely are an honest man."

Andrews smiled, "It's no problem, comrade."

"Still, the Soviets are outright supporting the United African Commune. We can't tolerate this! They're helping the sorts of people who threaten our people fundamentally," Malan said.

"I hate it just as much as you. My movement had fought against the capitalists since the dawn of the first world war. Yet somehow, the same kaffirs who were used as strikebreakers by the British are suddenly the paragons of revolution in Africa? Stalin is going to let them operate in Southwest Africa with impunity," Andrews noted.

"And, we can't let that hap-" Malan was then interrupted by another voice.

"Is there something wrong?" B.J. Vorster, a delegate from the Volksraad of the Republic of Transvaal, asked as he entered the room. "I heard such loud screaming that I thought for a moment that we were in Hitler's bunker."

"Oh, we just received a message from the Soviets," Andrews explained.

"Wow, that only makes it more like the Fuhrerbunker," Vorster laughed as he took a seat, crossing his legs. "Well, I overheard the whole conversation anyways. Still, that is unprecedented. Secretly communicating with the Soviets without the rest of the Confederate Council. Our government is truly informal."

"It was more asking the Soviets for a conversation than anything. Also, the Confederate Council receives all telegrams sent from here," the old communist explained after struggling with a coughing fit.

"I see. That makes sense. So, the Soviets are supporting pan-African nationalists due to being socialist. Yet, we are socialist as well, yes?" the younger Afrikaner nationalist noted, "I think I have a genius idea that'd make Einstein seem like a Congo negro by comparison."

"A genius idea?" Malan asked.

"Yes. Basically, we're going to have a carrot and stick approach to the Soviets. And, of course, only the stick for the black rebels," Vorster explained as he crossed his legs, "Basically, we will send an ultimatum to the so-called 'United African Commune': Leave South West Africa or the full might of the South African Citizen Force will be unleashed on them. And, I mean the full might. A full-scale military crackdown."

Both Malan and Andrews nodded. "I agree, though that is pretty much a consensus at this point," Malan said, "But, the issue is that Soviet support for a Pan-African organization, even outside of South Africa, could still embolden blacks within our borders."

"Let me read the message." Vorster then peeked at the telegram. "You two are so caught up in the stuff about the UAC that you forgot that Stalin personally applauded our plan for ending British imperialism." He then smirked a little. "That leads us to the second part of my plan." With a sheepish smile, the Transvaal delegate declared, "We're going to give him a tour of our country. Show him the wonders of South African Syndicalism!"

Malan blinked and held his mouth agape in shock, "What?! We're going to reward this weasel with a vacation?"

"Let him speak his idea through," Andrews reassured the older Afrikaner.

"Thank you, old commie. I thought you were dead for a moment," Vorster joked before patting Andrews on the shoulder. "But yes, Stalin is so cooped up in his office in Moscow, dealing with the cold Russian winters. No wonder he is so brutal. The man just needs a warm relaxing vacation. So, we'll give him an invitation, have him tour South Africa. Maybe even let him hunt some big game. At worst, we just end up with our current situation. At best, we have a sympathetic Soviet Union."

"B-But-" Malan tried to speak up before Vorster interrupted him.

"You don't realize the game yet? If we're going to survive the coming decades, we're going to have to play a game of realpolitik. We don't want the Soviets to have a grudge against us. That would just lead to them pushing for the UAC to start an uprising in other states of the South African confederacy. But, we also don't want to alienate the Americans too much. This is why I actually do appreciate your secretive approach. Secrecy is essential in a geopolitical battle, especially with modern mass media. Basically, the only two countries that are direct threats to us are the British and the Pan-Africanists. The Soviets could be useful for the former. I actually do hope that the British Empire would try to enforce decolonization on the Southern Rhodesia area. We can start an uprising of white workers and farmers there too. I think our flag could use a sixth star."

Both Andrews and Malan were stunned at the random delegate from Transvaal seemingly taking over the meeting. It was as if he was predestined to be elected a Confederate Council member.

"So, we're going to give Stalin a tour of South Africa, and the Americans? Wouldn't they see that as a potential offense?" Andrews asked.

"Oh, if we do get good relations with the Soviets going, then we don't have to care much about the Americans besides business. We all agreed on developing the arms industry here due to the Citizen Force's out of date weaponry. Really, I don't see America holding onto their own form of white rule for much longer. Their President is integrating the armed forces, and he's a Democrat. A member of the party of the South. And, the push to end white rule in America will extend to South Africa. They will cut aid eventually," Vorster explained. "And, they're going to be rabid anti-communists anyways. We got rid of capitalism in South Africa, and the ideologues in America will see that as tantamount to us being no different from the Soviets."

"That is true," Andrews said, "Perhaps, the Spanish could be allies too? I heard news about them wanting to reconquer their African territories. Perhaps, they could be sympathetic as well."

Both Vorster and Malan nodded. "A telegram to them too wouldn't hurt," Malan added.

From: D.H. Malan and William H. Andrews of the Confederacy of South African Republics
To: Joseph Stalin of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

If the Soviet Union has a policy of protecting socialist nations, then we invite you, or a diplomatic envoy, to visit South Africa to experience South African socialism. Our nation prides itself on being ruled by the working class and farmers. You then can determine if our country fulfills the criteria. After all, have we not fought capitalism since the strikes of 1914 or even the Boer uprisings earlier on? We rose up with the Rand Rebellion, inspired by the Russian Revolution. We have been ardent in our socialist, syndicalist cause.

Sincerely, the first General Secretary of the Communist Party of South Africa.

In the Ou Raadsaal, delegates from the Volksraads of each Republic and each labor union met. At the center, the Confederate Council oversaw the meeting. After an hour of discussion, a decision had been settled. An ultimatum was to be sent to the United African Commune. Most of the debate was over allocating funds to the military for the crackdown.

Image

Hendrik Verwoerd, a member of the Confederate Council, then announced the ultimatum with a televised speech.

"The Volksraads and Labor Unions of the Confederacy of South African Republics have voted to issue an ultimatum on the United African Commune. Withdraw all members and cancel all operations in the Republic of South West Africa, or else the South African Citizen Force will use all arms necessary to drive out or eliminate the United African Commune."

From: Percy Fisher, Hendrik Verwoerd, and Jimmy Green of the Confederacy of South African Republics
To: Caballero of the Socialist Republic of Spain

Greetings. The Confederacy of South African Republics is interested in setting up diplomatic relations. We're also curious about your attitudes when it comes to African affairs, as it seems like that the Socialist Republic of Spain is unique in wanting to preserve its colonial empire despite being a socialist republic.

Sierra Maestra, Cuba

The plucky band of rebels were finishing their daily routines in their encampment when the news of the response returned. Their operative, who had traveled to Mexico and back to relay the message, spoke of good news from the USSR. Their plea for physical aid material was accepted and Soviet advisers were to be sent to help co-ordinate the on-going war against the Cuban government. This war was quickly becoming more violent, with the rate of skirmishes increasing as Fulgencio began to grow tired of the 26th of July Movement.

"Commandante," the operative said, after scaling the side of the mountain to reach them. "Good news from the Soviet Union. They're planning on sending material aid in our struggle, as well as military advisers."

"Advisers? We know how to run this revolution ourselves," Castro quipped back. "We'll let them in, though. I'll just have to remind them that this isn't the Battle of Stalingrad, we play by different rules in Cuba." Fidel lit his cigar as the operative began talking again.

"Stalin also said that his is open to meeting Che," at the sound of his name, Ernesto 'Che' Guevara perked up.

"Will I be sent to Moscow?" Che asked.

Fidel turned to him. "Seems like it. It should be a nice change of pace for you. As much as it is beautiful in the Sierra Maestra, you'll be our eyes and ears in the USSR."

"What should I lobby for?"

"Anything you can get. Maybe for the Soviet navy to launch a naval bombardment on the Presidential Palace," Fidel joked, but there was a disconcerting or serious tone in it too. "But, in all seriousness, lobby for us to replace to the dictatorship in the United Nations. Lobby for consistent air drops to our positions. Just go out there and get them."

The preparations for his departure were tenuous. There was no possibility for Che to fly out of Cuba directly to the Soviet Union. He would adopt a fake alias to travel to South America. There, he would board a plane that would take him to Western Europe. From there, Che Guevara went to the Soviet Union, Moscow in particular. He organised it so that Soviet officials would be aware of his arrival. Once departing from the civilian aircraft, Che made his to the Soviet detachment awaiting him.

Abdullah scoffs, and replies a little forcefully, “Last I checked, it is your government’s troops that are stationed at the Canal. My government has informed the Council of our wishes for the Canal, and once again, Britain responds immediately with an eye for violence. We are asking for ownership of the Canal, and would compensate your stakeholders, and those of the French, handsomely. Where within this request did you get ‘We shall seize the Canal by force’, to prompt such a ridiculous statement from the British delegation?”

Prime Minister Zhang Lan slams his fist onto the table "ENOUGH" he yelled in heavily accented English "ENOUGH with your ridiculous posturing, you threatened legally held British territory by force! This is a private meeting, no TV Cameras or Journalists to posture to.... Make no mistake here representative, your threats of force... your blatant extortion and crime boss shakedown are well noted by the world. You have threatened the stability of one of the most important trade passages in the history of the world, you are not the aggrieved party, you are the one on trial for your offences. So we can either come up with a compromise that lets you save some face, or we can sponsor UN military intervention and a global trade embargo against Egypt. The choice is yours."

The US ambassador responded with a rousing affirmation of the Prime Minister's statement.

"I propose a solution to this crisis CAUSED by Egypt" The US Ambassador said following the statement by the Chinese Prime Minister "The Canal will become an 'International Neutral Passage' under British supervision. Designate as such it CANNOT be closed during peacetime or automatic sanctions will trigger from all UN members (the ambassador looks pointedly at the Soviet Representative). The British can only collect tolls and fees necessary to maintain the passage."

"Residents in the Canal Zone will have the option of Egyptian citizenship, subject to Egyptian taxes, Egyptian Laws and an Egyptian police force. Britain will maintain a military presence in the Canal Zone, and military bases, Egypt will not be allowed to send military forces or equipment into or through the Canal Zone with explicit and express permission of the British."

"In this way the Canal itself will remain British, as Egypt has demonstrated i cannot be trusted with it, but Egypt saves face by now controlling the area around the canal."

The representatives of China and the US both look between the representatives of the Soviet Union and Great Britain who both agreed to the arrangement beforehand

USNC Chamber, New York City, USA

"We had no intention of closing the Canal, and the Honorable Prime Minister will do well to remember that. This Government made that crystal clear, but it seems you have trouble listening. Nor did we have the intention to seize it by force. All we had done was pass an act through Parliament. Egyptian troops weren't even mobilized, not even when the British mobilized. We had no plans to take Egyptian troops to the Canal to enforce the Suez Canal Nationalization Act. If anything, we planned to use it as leverage, seeing as we're being frank. But somehow, without using force of arms, we were seizing it by force? Perhaps the Republic of China is blind, as well." Abdullah addressed the Council again. "You want an international neutral passage? Then it cannot be solely under British supervision. The Canal cannot belong to Britain forever. Nor should it. There should be joint supervision, with a transitory period of 50 years. At the end of 50 years, the Canal will be controlled in full by Egypt. And again, let me make myself clear, since China has trouble hearing, closing the Canal is bad for the world, bad for business business. And, needless to say, bad for Egypt. It would be against our interests to close the Canal, to anyone, for any reason. Even our most fervent nationalists in Parliament wouldn't think of such a thing, or if they did...well, they're in the minority, praise be to Allah. But, if the Great Powers of the world have already decided Egypt's fate like a bunch of puppeteers, and decide to hang that request, here is another proposition: We will agree to the International Neutral Passage. Britain will supervise the Canal for 50 years. After such a time, it will hand over supervision to our government. And the British will, in the interim, honor the wishes of His Majesty's Government, and all British troops outside of the Suez Canal Zone will be withdrawn. As I last checked, it is the host country's right to request that foreign troops leave its soil, and Britain violated international law by ignoring this request. Egypt is an independent country, and we deserve to govern our own affairs without British bayonets down our throats."

Office of the Supreme Leader, Lissabon, Mainland Portugal, Portuguese Union
"What do you mean by that this "Confederacy of South African Republics" exists?", Óscar asked an employee of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Sir, this country definitly exists", the employee insists. "And it happens to border both Angola and Mozambique."
"Seriously, is that country planning on invading the two overseas provinces?", Óscar asked again.
"I don't know, but maybe diplomacy can settle things down", the employee answers. "It is said that this country is syndicalist, yet operates under white minority rule."
"Oh, so we are dealing with white nationalists in the southernmost part of Africa?", Óscar muttered.
"But sir, we don't...", the employee tried to speak, but Óscar shut him down.
"I send that country a message then, so it can leave both Angola and Mozambique alone", Óscar said before proceeding to write down an official message to South Africa.
"Sir, what about the United African Commune?", the employee asks right before Óscar began writing.
"Oh yeah, I will deal with that as well", Óscar answered.

Official Message of the Portuguese Union

To: Confederacy of South African Republics
From: Portuguese Union
Subject: Diplomacy
Encryption: Medium to High

Dear Confederate Council, I have just started to hear about your country, which used to be an overseas territory of the British Empire. Both of our countries are neither capitalist nor communist, yet there are still differences. Your country must be either syndicalist or socialist, while mine is more economically mixed. Also, your country runs under universal white suffrage, while mine has offered civil rights to all of its overseas provinces and their native inhabitants. My country would likely be more egalitarian than yours, but besides that, I would seek diplomatic relations between our countries as to ensure peace and co-existence. Don't let our differences stand in our way and prevent us from having something in common. I am not seeking war, I am seeking diplomacy. My country is not a colonial empire anymore, it is a pluricontinental nation whose overseas provinces are treated equally with respect.

Also, both of us are dealing with this so-called "United African Commune", which must be a communist rebel group based in our territory. I hope we can do more than just diplomacy. Maybe we can militarily cooperate against the UAC and destroy it. That would do the trick. I am awaiting your response.

Atenciosamente, Supreme Leader Óscar Craveiro of Portugal and its Overseas Provinces

Angola, Portuguese Union
Across the Overseas Province of Angola, the Portuguese military and the Angolan authorities began to feel aware of the United African Commune. Portuguese soldiers patrols the streets of various Angolan cities, as well as rural areas, while the Angolan authorities operates in a police-like manner by deploying undercover agents and requesting civilians to come forward with information about anything suspicious, especially when it comes to the UAC. The Supreme Leader had noted the Governor of Angola about suspicious UAC activity and thus the operation to bring down the UAC has begun.

"Your government cannot be trusted, and your proclamation of nationalizing the Canal is obviously backed with force. It is as ridiculous as China nationalizing the Pyramids of Giza. Your nationalization without any negotiation or notification of the British government made clear your intent to seize the canal. The only reason you didn't is because Britain moved as quickly as it did in response."

"They have every right to defend their territory and the canal they built. If you wish to enter into a contract with Britain regarding the control of the canal over 50 years, that is your right... In truth China sympathizes with you, we have suffered under the unequal treaties and will seek to redress them through peaceful means. But make no mistake... China will NEVER support your flagrant actions and attempted strongarming of any other sovereign nation"

"Is the Prime Minister of China now a mind reader, to know His Majesty's Government's deepest thoughts? Perhaps if you bothered to research our government, you'd realize you're talking to liberals and social democrats. This government has always believed in free trade. And even if Egypt opted to back that up with force, tell me, how long would we last with British troops near Cairo? Hm? We have a strong desire to reunite our country in full, but we're not stupid. Our troops were trained by Britain, but we didn't have armor. Do you honestly think that the Prime Minister would go to war against a better equipped military? And even if you don't trust us, we have self interest in keeping the Canal open. Closing the Canal would devastate the Egyptian economy. You may not trust our intentions, but you can trust our self-interest in keeping the Canal open. I wonder, if Britain maintained troops outside of your capital while holding onto Hong Kong, and your Government requested they leave and they didn't, would you believe they'd negotiate in good faith? Would you trust them to be respectful of your sovereignty? Would you trust them, period? If you say yes to that, then Prime Minister, I have a palace near the Red Sea to sell you for one Egyptian pound."

"No, how dare we speak sense and truth. We don't trust the British to act in good faith, and we clearly cannot trust the great powers. You ask Britain this question as if there is one to be asked. We all know the answer they'll give, so let's cut the bullshit," the Foreign Minister remarked. "We don't trust the British to negotiate in good faith with regards to a transition of the Canal. We would prefer that matter be settled, here. We would prefer that this Council mandate a 50 year transitional term, so that neither their government, nor my government," he said, leering at the Chinese Prime Minister, "can renege on the terms. A Security Council resolution is a mandate, no?"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a lot on its desk from other countries. Caballero was too busy planing and discussing the invasion of Morrocco, so all the letters had to be dealt with by the Foreign Minister, Manuel Azaña, and then quickly sealed by Caballero. Azaña saw what was on his desk and got to work, the responses were as follows.

MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SPAIN TO THE CONFEDERACY OF SOUTH AFRICAN REPUBLICS
Hello. We would like to respond that we would refrain from using the term 'colonial empire' but that we still wish to take back what is ours on the African continent from fascists and other illegitimate and rebellious forces. Thank you for your query.

CLASSIFIED MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SPAIN TO THE KATIPUNAN OF FILIPINAS
Very well, we will sell 5 military advisors, 500 M1893 rifles, 50 armoured vehicles, 20 tanks and 20 anti-tank (artillery) guns for the price of 100 billion pesetas in total.

The Ambassador from the United States turns to the Egyptian Ambassador "This is the UN, treaties backed here are backed by the United Nations. If you don't trust that leave. We will back whatever treaty you and the British agree to. We proposed a solution, do not push your luck by insulting everyone in the room."

New York City, United States of America

Ambassador Osaba eventually laughed at the back and worth dialogue between the Americans, Chinese and British against the Egyptians. "So typical the reaction of the West. I call it rather rich, that the British claim sovereignty over the Suez Canal and China and the United States supporting such a claim. Even though, if I remember my history correctly - Egypt has owned the Canal since the times of the when Pharaohs of Egypt ruled the lands. Not to mention, constructing the Suez Canal as we see now - cost the people thousands of their lives over your colonial ambitions. So all of this is just posturing - as Britain attempts to hold onto it's colonialist attitude. Considering how hostile you have been in reply to the Egyptians - I'd say this is nothing more than blatant attempt at usurping sovereignty and lands that should be against the UN Charter itself..."

"...and before you start to call us out. Our Emperors have been burned, our colonies returned and our ambitions judged and punished for. So in this case, Egypt should have the right to agree or disagree to terms - and the British are the ones whom should be negotiating. Considering that the lands of the Suez are clearly in the middle and between Egypt itself..." spoke Osaba.

Warsaw, Polish People's Republic

"Come now, Molotov. I may be the daughter of a former farmer - but I can see the writing of the world," she replied. "This is meant to be help against NATO by creating an equal force against it. We all are bound by common ideology, however - divided by culture. Thus it is obvious, in any other circumstance - the West may attempt to divide and conquer us..."

"My question is - how far would this intervention of help be? Or rather, what would be the terms to trigger such aid?" asked Rin. "Obviously. A minor riot wouldn't warrant aid from Asia. However, would partisans, counter-revolutionaries and other foreign agents fall under that category?"

"Our countries haven't always been friends. Our Imperial ambitions had once struck against your homeland once and during the Second World War - we were constantly at risk of attack you. My point being, we are grateful for your aid and help in restoring some sense of normality. However, we don't want to end up as the Chinese did in the 20th Century. Puppets to foreign influence. So. What is Comrade Stalin hope to achieve here?" she asked.

The US ambassador looks to this new speaker with great confusion "The canal was constructed in the 1860s, by the French and British. They bought the land, they own the land and 100% funded its entire construction. I don't know what history you have read."

The ambassador reads off his notes

"Ferdinand de Lesseps obtained a concession from Sa'id Pasha, the Khedive of Egypt and Sudan, to create a company to construct a canal open to ships of all nations. The company was to operate the canal for 99 years from its opening."

" An inability to pay his bank debts led Said Pasha's successor, Isma'il Pasha, in 1875 to sell his 44% share in the canal for £4,000,000. Under the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty of 1936, the UK retained control over the canal."

"The treaty states and I quote 'After 20 years from the implementation of the Treaty parties it shall be determined if the presence of British troops is necessary as the Egyptian army may be able to guarantee shipping in the Suez Canal safely. Disagreements may be submitted to the League of Nations.'"

After just sitting there, Cadogen finally steps up; "Can everyone please stop shouting like lunatics? Yelling here gets nothing done to resolve the crisis. The British Government will agree to the Egyptian terms, except the lease must be extended to 75 years. The British Military will be withdrawn from everywhere except Alexandria. If the Egyptians can agree to this, we can move on to other things.

United Nations Security Council Meeting

The Soviet delegate at the UN had his hand covering his face. This assembly of the world's top nations had gotten off to a poor start, and it seemed a consensus wouldn't be met for a long time. Still, it was better to have the representatives yell at each other here, as opposed to bombing each other's cities. The USSR sympathized with the Egyptians, but it appeared only the British and Japanese ministers kept a level head. Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Vyshinsky decided to take his own turn to speak.

"I agree with the United Kingdom that we should take a much more diplomatic approach to this. We are representing the world's most esteemed nations after all. I say that neither the UK nor Egypt should be able to shut down the canal, and we have a UN taskforce to make sure any changes are done peacefully. The United Kingdom should also have a limit on how long their troops can remain in Egyptian soil."

Warsaw, Polish People's Republic

Molotov listened closely to Rin's questions. "General Secretary, I understand Japan's history and why you are concerned with this. However, I assure you, our leader plans for the Warsaw Pact to protect itself from foreign invaders. By having a mutual defense treaty, the chances of NATO attacking us are substantially lowered. As for riots or partisans, the Warsaw Pact can send aid if they want, and if the country in question is in danger of collapse, then we will intervene. For Japan specifically, Soviet troops can be withdrawn in the next few years as your country transitions into a new era."

Bulgaria and Romania

Red Army troops continued their advanced through the USBR, seizing major cities and destroying any lines of communication. Some tank units spotted a car traveling towards the Russian border, in clear defiance of the martial law and curfew set in the territory. The car had a message written on it, and while it was comedic, none of the Red Army soldiers dared to utter a single laugh. Stalin's rage would be poured down unto this country soon, and he was not afraid of sending away his own people to...re-education centers in Siberia.

The tanks stopped the car and looked at it, only to see Chairman Chervenkov. The soldiers immediately moved to detain him for the NKVD. "The general Secretary would like a word with you, Chairman," said one of the officers.

To: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Katipunan of Filipinas
From: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

The USSR will be able to send aid in the form of supplies and advisers. They will arrive in the coming weeks.

Moscow, Russian SFSR

NKVD agents were alerted of Che Guevara's presence in the Soviet capital. Che arrived in Moscow minutes ago, and the agents made sure they checked his credentials and retrieved him. This was the first time a foreigner sympathetic to the socialist cause had arrived in Moscow to seek an audience with the General Secretary, and Defense Minister Vasilevsky ensured everything went according to plan. The situation in the Balkans was under tight control as NKVD and Red Army troops prevented blocked the borders, but extraditing the USBR Chairman to the capital couldn't be done just yet. Even though he was a genocidal psychopath, Joseph Stalin thought towards the future a little bit more than his previous years.

He stood in Red Square as the NKVD took Che directly to him.

Che was very impressed with the Soviet Union. Ernesto frequently flirted with the concept of full communism, and though even the Soviets admitted they hadn't reached that point, it seemed like they had. He was obviously well-aware of what was happening in Eastern Europe, with the revisionist leaders being suppressed by the secret police and Red Army. In fact, the same secret police that guided him to Red Square to meet the man of steel himself. Fixed with his trademark beret and military get-up, Che walked towards Joseph Stalin.

"Hello," he said, in English. He hoped someone could translate that, one of the aids surrounding the pair. "We're very thankful for your support in our struggle against Batista and the US-backed regime," Che said. He reached out his hand to shake Stalin's.

A day after Hendrik's speech, three Confederate Council members sat in a different room in the same building. Two of them, Percy Fisher and Jimmy Green, were labor unionists who had fought for labor rights since the Rand Revolt. One, Hendrik Verwoerd, was an university professor who had pushed for both the Afrikaner nationalist cause and the syndicalist cause through the journal Die Transvaler.

They were discussing the latter's speech along with mobilizing the commandos each of the republics to crackdown on the UAC.

"So, we're going to wait for the UAC to answer the ultimatum?" Jimmy Green asked Verwoerd.

"Yes, that is the plan," the former professor answered.

"A message has been sent from Portugal," Fisher noted as he took the telegram. "And, Spain has sent a response to our message."

"Let's convene the council then," Verwoerd said before the trio left the room.

The Confederate Council had 14 members. Half of them had their background in Boer and Afrikaner nationalist circles and the other half came from the ranks of the syndicalist movement. Notably, one of them was actually a woman, Mary Fitzgerald.

"The Portuguese sent an...interesting message to us," Verwoerd noted grimly, "Apparently, there are heads of state who haven't noticed that our nation even existed or of our revolution."

"Don't they have a border with us?" Mary asked, "The Portuguese government had turned their overseas provinces into members of a federation, so it couldn't be a simple oversight."

"I guess it could just be South Africa not being a member of the UN," Oswald Pirow answered. "Still, I find interesting that he thinks his autocracy is more egalitarian than a democratic republic. I guess it all depends on how you define egalitarianism."

"More importantly," Hendrik added, "The Portuguese leader seems to believe that we both have the ability and a desire to invade Angola and Mozambique."

"I heard rumors that he is paranoid of other nations invading Portugal. It makes sense considering that Spain is right next to them," Fisher added.

"Well, I'm glad that they are willing to at least offer assistance in defeating the so-called 'United African Commune," Malan said, "I think we should accept the offer."

"I think we should be more cautious for now," Jimmy Green warned, "Remember, we sent an ultimatum. We have to hear an answer from the UAC. After all, what was the point of warning them if we end up just attacking them regardless?"

"Well, if the UAC refuses to back down, then you can rely on me to crush them utterly," Jopie Fourie, the War Council representative on the Confederate Council, declared.

"I think that would be a great plan," Andrews concurred.

After some more discussion, the Confederate Council agreed to delay the response to the Portuguese.

"So, now to the other nation of Iberia," Andrews said.

"Spain seems to be sugarcoating its imperialism," Fitzgerald noted.

"Unless, they're planning to 'liberate' those lands to the natives, like a certain guest who we just invited," Malan noted.

"We'll have to see. I mean, they seem to be little different from Portugal in that regard," Benjamin Jennings Caddy said.

"So, more waiting and seeing? This meeting seems kind of pointless honestly," Paul Sauer noted, "The more pressing matters are internal anyways. Though, I guess those affairs are more suited for the next meeting of the Volkraads and unions."

"The United Nations are also having a summit of some sort," Verwoerd added, "Unfortunately, we'd have to be members if we want any influence. But, we can't. At least, not until we get rid of the UAC."

UNSC Chamber, New York, NY, USA

Abdullah listened to the representatives and glared at the British representative. "Your government ignored our request three years ago to remove your troops from our soil, and now you want them in Alexandria? The gall. We shall not agree to this. If you want to lease land for a naval base, we might be open to such a negotiation in the future, but not now. We will keep the transitory period at 50 years for the Suez Canal, not a day longer. All British troops outside the Suez Canal Zone will leave the Kingdom, per our 1946 demand. Unless the UN wishes to set the precedent that the word of a host nation means nothing when it comes to who stations troops where and for how long? And Britain must promise here and now, that it will not intervene in Egyptian affairs. If their troops leave the Suez Canal Zone and march into Egyptian territory, it will be seen as a declaration of war against the Kingdom and her people, and we will respond accordingly. We are not a puppet of the British Empire, and we refuse to be treated as such. We have the right to self determination, and we can't enjoy that right with British bayonets at our throat, not in Cairo, not in Alexandria, nowhere outside the Canal Zone."

Chervenkov told the soldiers, "If Joseph isn't a coward, he'll personally arrest me. I will not move until I see his face before me here."
Chervenkov remained in his vehicle.

(Can we say I made it to Kyiv?)

(NYC)

Pearson had heard both sides and some other sides and decided to speak,

"Both Egypt and the UK wish to own the Suez Canal. The UK wants it to ensure their economy does not get hindered as they think that Egyptian control of it will cause them to either pay Egyptian taxes or have to go around the cape of good hope in southern Africa. Egypt wishes to own the canal due to perceived continuation of imperialism and colonialism in which Britain still hold a minority rule over non British peoples. Both nations agreed that the canal would be leased to the UK for 99 years which will expire in a decade. I believe that the Egyptians should own the canal as Egypt is now independent. The Egyptians, if given allowance to nationalise, should ensure and promise that all nations should be allowed to use the canal with no fear of attack, tax, or search/seizure. For example, I am sure that if the Norwegians had built a canal through the UK to speed up shipping times and had a colony there for a couple centuries, the British would want to have ownership of the canal once independent."
