Off the top of my head, examples of ways to make chi manipulation really lame:

- He's really convinced he has these powers, but he's actually totally incapable of fighting seriously. His combat style consists of flailing around and making cool noises.
- He has all of the expected superhuman fighting abilities and energy powers, but can only use them against fish.
- His power is that whenever someone mispronounces "chi", he gets to use a weak chi-based attack against them while screaming the correct pronunciation.
- He can create and shape this mystical inner energy... into the shape of fairly soft blunt objects with which to gently bludgeon people.

Are these examples?

Yes, I specifically said "examples" in my post. You're free to steal any of these ideas (I won't care), but I'd suggest reading the opening post of this thread more carefully whether or not you go with any of them.

Oh man. You had me at fish. Yeah, Speyland, this guy would be way too powerful as is. But seriously! Take Kasa's 2nd example about fish!

Great Confederacy of Commonwealth States wrote:A work in progress

Name: Gertrude Jenkins
Codename: Solstice of Libra (Libra for short)
Age: 84
Sex: Female
Appearance:

Bio:
Powers: Visions of the future and the past

Describe your abilities: "Oh, yes, dear. I can see beyond the veil of the Third Dimension to see the realm beyond time! I can see into your past and future, remembering things that were and predicting things that will be! For a slight fee, of course. For you, I see... I see... I see a mother, present at your birth... But she wasn't always present during your childhood... I see some form of education as well... Formal or through experience, I cannot tell... And for your future, I see a sunrise. You will cross a street, but beware! That might be dangerous! I'm sorry, my visions aren't that clear. It's my eyesight, you see."
Why did you become a superhero: "I always see these super heroes on TV, you know. Big fancy capes, flying around the place... I always wonder if they have a nice home to go to, where a good cup of tea is waiting for them. Well, I want to make sure our own Minnesota Infinites have someone to look out for them. Someone to make them a scarf when its cold out, and makes sure they take their meds!"
What are your goals for the future: "If I could pass onto the next world having had some excitement in my life, that would be marvellous"
(Why is this character with the Minnesota Infinites. In other words, why do they kind of suck?): Are you serious? I mean, look at her. 84 years old, blind as a bat without her thick prescription glasses, slow to move, with brittle bones and rheumatic hands. And her power is hardly a power at all. It's not better than guesswork. It's not really her fault. Her power used to be much stronger, her visions clearer, but then her eyesight got worse. And while in the 3rd dimension we can make prescription glasses to fix that, there are no glasses beyond the veil of the now.
How would you describe your talents?: "I can make a good cup of tea. I also knit sweaters and scarves. And nobody beats my potato salad."
(What about your character's talents make them a D-lister?): I refer to the answer above. Let me say again: she is 84 years old.
What are your strengths?:
What are your weaknesses?: "I can't help but feel bad for the bad guys as well. I mean, did they get enough hugs growing up? A loving warm home to return to? Poor lads"
(Any other flaws? Maladjusted personality? Social issues? Unmarketable aspects?): Pushing 84, Gertrude is growing a bit senile, as evidenced by the toad she keeps on her shoulder, which she insists is her husband Harold she accidentally turned into a toad.
Why should you if given the opportunity be allowed to advance in the Infinites?: "Oh, because you guys obviously need the support! Not only can I predict crimes before they happen, generally, I can look into the past to solve crimes! That could be useful! Also, nobody makes a better meatloaf, and there is nothing better after a day of fighting crime than sitting down to a hot cup of cocoa"
(Why does the press hate or ignore you?): They have never in their lives heard of Gertrude.

Hey, Talch, would it be possible to be accepted, while I keep working on the backstory? I’m having a bit of trouble with writing long stretches, but I’d like to be accepted so I can play along in the meantime!

Hey Comms! That should be fine. I was just waiting on the backstory. The rest looks great, and I know you as a player. I know you are a good writer. I have no doubt that you have the ability to contribute well to this RP. And I was going to accept Gertrude when I saw you were done. So doing it early is fine. Gertrude is ACCEPTED! Welcome to the Infinites!

If you want a humorous suggestion for Gertrude's bio, I don't mind given her age if you want to make it completely short and have it all be the ramblings of a senile old lady. For Infinites, funny works just as well if not better than your typical bio for almost every other kind of RP.

Skylus - Hey! So, I did some digging and found this app of yours from the Infinites: And Beyond! arc. Take a look at it (and also, while you're at it, look at my response to this which would still apply), and if you want that character back, he would be accepted. You can repost it. The app should be the same.

EDIT - The roster has been updated. The only omission I have is I was wondering about Castelia and what he thought of some of the changes I suggested for his badminton character. Also, maybe another one - what about making a play on words on the term "badminton" as a villain name? Something like Evil Minton or whatever.

Talc, I decided not to go further with a second character, for now. I'm sticking with CRap for the foreseeable future, but I'll see if I can introduce a second character soon!

Given all of the older characters, I almost started applying for a normal old woman who thought it was bingo night and followed the canes and grey hair into the Infinites meeting, with no one else noticing she never actually joined.

That's fine. If you do want to bring your badminton guy back, you sure can. I'm sorry if I came off as a jerk if I did. I see my job as a fellow collaborator and a person who can give feedback on humor (and other things too). But that might not always be the way I come across.

CRap all by himself should be funny! Especially with this group of grayheads. If he starts rapping and they start feeling queasy, they might just think that they had too much fiber today.

Codename: Mr. Pig
Age: Mid-50's (appears younger)
Sex: Male
Appearance: Human-form- ginger, tan, golden eyes, likes to wear black suits, stands 6-4, 170 pounds.
Beast-form- blue, huge muscles, tusks, bloodshot golden eyes, bloodstained claws and hooves, can squeal very loudly. Wears remnants of black suit.
Biography: Connor was a business man, conning other people out of their money. Then, one day, he found himself conning a pig farmer. A crazed pig happened to bite him. He made it back to his freaking huge castle office, but then he passed out. When he awoke, he found that he had blown up the office and that he was a blue furred giant pig. Shortly after, the Infinities showed up and he had the time of his life.
Powers: Human form- can con people out of money, steal things
Beast-form- is very powerful and is very hard to take down. Can become enraged. Owns a huge golden tridents that can kill people.

RP sample: Hogwarts

(Answer this as if you were speaking as your villain) -
Describe your abilities: My human form can't do much, unfortunately, however, I can become rich very easily...Not that I already am, of course.
My beast form is very powerful, stands about...seven feet, has defining muscles and all of that, have I mentioned the trident yet? I make it extra sharp.

Why did you turn to crime: Who doesn't? easier to make money that way- Oh, look, Did you lose something?

Why did you further become a supervillain: Who doesn't? Think of all the publicity you'd get!

How do you feel about the Infinites: ....don't mention them. Actually, they let me test my new powers on them, so that's a bonus.

What's your end goal: To....Take over every single corporation on Earth?

You've captured the hero/heroine, what happens now: I'd steal everything they own and send them to some far away country with no means of coming back.

Do you plan out your monologues or do they just sort of happen: I plan them out very far in advance. I even rehearse them, figuring out how I should say some lines.

Let's hear a sample of your evil laugh (the noise you'd make when your plan is succeeding): ...Now? *sighs* fine
"Mwwwwwhahahahahahahahah!!!!!"
...Are you happy now?

Let's hear a sample of your evil roar (the noise you make when your plan is failing): ...Do you want this in my beast or human form?
the human version sounds completely ridiculous, however....
GGGGGRRRRAAAAAAAAOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
There. Does that satisfy you?

Any lines you won't cross: Please explain further.

Would you prefer an archenemy, or would you rather just drift around from rogues gallery to rogues gallery: Nemesis, there's something exciting about waiting for them to seek you out over and over and over....

As for your request for explanation, the app is asking, will your character stop at harming cute fuzzy animals, or girl scouts, or surfers, etc? Will they commit murder, kidnapping, etc?

Speaking of murder, I'm going to nerf your trident. While it could possibly kill people if used that way, we're not going there in this RP from it, without express permission from the OP.

Also, one other thing. When Pig Man is in beast mode, I'm assuming he stands on two feet and not four, and then can use his hands like normal?

You know, i had an idea for a power that's not exactly serious, but it might be too powerful. It's basically the ability to make it so when you play a music within hearing range, the situation you're in changes to fit the music. So for example, if you play a sad music, the situation will change to a sad tone. Still, it's too powerful, i fear.

I'm going to have some time tomorrow to review. Powers (or lack of powers as the case may be) look fine. One thing I did notice is that some parts of the bio are rather dark and graphic for the Infinites. Like any part involving killing people. The villains of Infinites have never done any time in jail nor would they. They're more like humorous pests than hardened criminals.

Maybe go back through the bio and tone it down some.

It's basically the ability to make it so when you play a music within hearing range, the situation you're in changes to fit the music. So for example, if you play a sad music, the situation will change to a sad tone. Still, it's too powerful, i fear.
