Viktor Farkas
Santa Marina, November 10th
The days following Halloween night had proven to be quite hectic. Days of scouring Hunters scouring the streets for any lingering assailants, weeks of repairs to fully restore the city center, a whole lot of money in property damage, and all the civilian lives lost where just part of the toll in the aftermath of the attack. Unknowing the full extent of the motives behind the attack on Santa Marina, whoever had orchestrated the events off that night sure as hell had made a statement for themselves. If that was the idea, launching such a brazen assault not only at the heart of Mage society in America, but at the very doorstep of the Hunters Association accomplished its goal. A message for all to see that they had both the means and intent to crash down the house off cards that was the general public’s sense of security. They had done a fucking good job at that.
The one saving grace of that night, and not a minor one, had been that they had all gotten out alive, a small miracle truly despite the gap in abilities with their opponents. Against all odds, the students of the Hunter Academy had taken no casualties, not in a physical way at least. The two people that could be considered to be the most affected by the events that transpired were Freya and Tristan. The former was taken away and detained for her role in organizing students at the campus to head downtown and participate in the battle against the Academy’s word. What Viktor thought was larger issue however, was the dragon that she had apparently summoned to assist in the battle. The fact that she was able to perform such a feat with apparent ease made her a possible threat and target of deserved suspicion; good thing she was locked up for the time being.
Tristan on the other hand, was a different story. While carrying him and his broken limb out of the highway, it somehow dawned on Viktor that his companion would need some time to recuperate, and not just in body. After Tristan’s display of attempted martyrdom, his decision to take a leave of absence shouldn’t have come as such a surprise really, but it still felt quite shocking. Even though Viktor understood why he had chosen such a thing, even if it was probably for the better, it didn’t make him any less pissed. After hearing the news, it became increasingly difficult to visit Tristan at the hospital, until he stopped showing up at all, but he wasn’t fully sure why. Anger began rising in him when he thought of it, accompanied by a sense of being somehow abandoned, betrayed even, by his friend. It was an irrational thing to be sure, but that didn’t make it any easier to deal with.
Pushing his strange emotions aside, Viktor slowly opened the door ahead of him. Sieg had already started the briefing for their next assignment, and not wanting to interrupt, he took a seat near the entrance of the room. He couldn’t really say he knew a thing about said apparitions, so he simply remained quite and waited for somebody else to answer, his past lack of vigilance was a thing that needed amending after the wake up call that was Halloween. Nonetheless, the slim possibility that this new situation could be in any way connected to the attack on the city, and therefore offer some answers, made this assignment enticing. At the very least, it would give the chance to release some pent up energy and focus his mind on something else.
