But like I did mention before, Senator Luke Hawthorne has been helpful with our investigation. I mean if you rally want to go there, both of them are villains, representative. But your white knight crusade to defend Sharansky is wrong. She's a criminal like the rest of them. Charges against Senator Hawthorne were placed against him due to the information we had at the time, yet again something I have already said. Not all of the claims could be proven and some had to be dropped, this is a common occurrence when pursuing a criminal case."

“Mr. Attorney General, it is the responsibility of this body to oversee the Department of Justice and its investigations. Please divulge the information which has been requested or further action will be taken.”

“Well Mr. Attorney General, we are doing exactly that. It is exceptionally uncommon for the prosecution to drop charges prior to a formal plea deal, is it not? Yet you’ve done exactly that, without providing any justification whatsoever.”

"Does the Attorney General recognise he has a legal obligation to provide Congressional Committees with relevant information, and if he continues to actively obstruct and refuse to provide such information, Congress can and will take necessary means to ascertain that information in order to get to the bottom of this?"

"What I do recognise, Mr Atang, is that I know the law better than you, clearly. Now you're trying to threaten me into submission with subpoenas and criminal charges, but I doubt you even know what is. A subpoena only requires the subject of it to hand over the relevant documents and appear before the body that issued it. It does not mean that I have to answer any of the questions asked. I have already answered everything I am legally obliged to answer. I have handed over all relevant documents that have been requested."

"Maybe if the member had a decent law degree, he'd know that."

Ruler chuckled.

"Mr. Attorney-General, what law school did you attend?"

Renfus chuckled in response to Ruler's latest question, before asking his own more serious question.

"Attorney General Jones, earlier you brought up the possibility of corruption within the ranks of the House Democratic Leadership, do you feel that this same level, if not a higher level of corruption could be present with the Senate Democratic Leadership as well? Especially given that it sounds like you're sayin' the former Senator from Illinois was the worst offender of all those currently under investigation."

Renfus chuckled in response to Ruler's latest question, before asking his own more serious question.

Especially given that it sounds like you're sayin' the former Senator from Illinois was the worst offender of all those currently under investigation."

Mac Faulhaber, having observed quietly from a seat far to one side spoke up.

"Attorney-General Jones, did you discuss the quote unquote Midwest Massacre with then-President Arnold Wolf? And if you did, did you discuss the details of specific charges and any potential deals made with said charged? These are yes or no questions. Please answer them as you yourself would like witnesses to answer, plainly and without being defensive. I trust you, a longtime prosecutor, will be capable of this."

Renfus rolled his eyes slightly and looked over to the Attorney General, hoping he'd still respond in one way or another.

Franklin sighed, and leaned back in his chair. "What is oversight but management by a higher authority, Mr. Attorney-General?" He said in a snake-like, vicious and indignant tone. "Divulge the information now, or you are at risk of being held at contempt of Congress."

Michael was bewildered at the amount of questions, he thought best to answer the individual questions as quickly as possible. First turning to ruler.

"Harvard, Congressman, I was one of the best in the class." He said smiling

Then turning to Renfus, he lowered his glasses and placed them back into his pocket and had a more serious tone.

"Look, it's impossible to know for sure at this point if the corruption ranges any further than Senator Sharansky. I'd put her un-cooperation under embarrassment and fearfulness. But we will investigate the ties further and see where they lead. Currently their is no indication that corruption ranges deeper, but by the end of the investigation we could unearth something. Who knows."

Turning to the extremely bald man, Michael made eye contact.

"Well, it's hard to answer with simply yes and no questions, Representative. I mean sure, I mentioned to President Wolf that I had the case, but I didn't really go into detail with it. It was mostly seeking advice on it, I was having cold feet on taking it up, as I'm not a very big fan of congressional politics, they're very sissy. President Wolf didn't want much to do with it, he just wanted to know when I was announcing it. An amazing man President Wolf is."

Now Michael looked at Franklin.

"Well considering you don't even have a law degree, I wouldn't let you manage anything at the department. Not even the coffee stand in the lobby of the Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building. Like I said, I have handed over the relevant documents and appeared in front of the committee, there's really nothing more I could do."

Before the Attorney General could finish his third sentence, Mac cut him off.

“I am reclaiming my time, I am reclaiming my time. Mr. Attorney-General, Mr. Chairman, I am reclaiming my time.” he repeated, cutting off the man.

“Was President Wolf informed about the decision to offer Senator Hawthorne a deal in any way? This is again, a yes or no question.”

"Again Representative, like I said, President Wolf wasn't involved in the case and didn't have any knowledge in the deal that was brokered."

"Attorney General Jones, I will cut to the chase. Will you divulge the necessary information around the case as you are under obligation to do or will you force us to take action in order to access that information?"
