Cambion's probably a better idea than demon since demons tend to be summoned and kept on a tight leash.

Yeah, how does Biological magic work?

TL:DR biological magic deals with, well, biomass and biology. Basically biomages are the ones that can create new beings to use as golems, and they tend to have the ability to alter the biology of others or sometimes themselves. Or at least they have the potential to do so. There's a lot of ways someone can play biomagic.

Okay, I am planning on making a healer type char wanted to know my options are magic-wise.

Holy magic and physical magic can both do healing, you kind of can with biological magic but that's less about having any intrinsic healing and more about using your magic to manually move everything back into place when it's messed up, if that makes any sense.

Understand that and can I get an example of how physical magic works?

It has to deal with physical enhancements. The effects of physical magic can enhance someone's durability, speed, agility, physical attack strength, etc. Can also heal the body.

SANTA MARINA HUNTER ACADEMY - STUDENT FILE
The following file has been approved for viewing by APPROVED PERSONNEL.

Insert Character Name Here

Name: Cadenza Cavolfior
Appearance:
From her mother, she inherited her tightly curled hair and gingerbread-brown skin. From her father, she inherited his height, covering of dark freckles and his slightly upturned black Italian eyes. Her hair is waist-length and naturally dark brown, but she keeps it dyed a vibrant indigo-purplish blue color. Cadenza has a long, oval face and also has the broad nose and full lips native to her mother's family.

Gender: Female
Age: 20
Build: 5'11, 180 lbs, has a curvy, slightly chubby build
Species: Part-faerie

Magic Category/Categories: She hopes to maybe master all the schools one day (a girl can dream) but she uses psychic and fire mainly for now

Mana Count: 200

Known Spells/Abilities:
Charm (160): Influences the mind of the target in an attempt to make them more open to the caster's
suggestions. 60 percent chance of success during the first cast, dropping by ten percent after that until the mana
recharges.
Paralyze (140): Stuns a target in place, making them unable to move
Fire Wheel (15): A mid-sized wheel of fire is cast and rolled toward the target
Inferno (45): A column of fire surrounds the target
Fireball (20): Your standard fantasy-esque fireball
Sleep (190): Causes the target to sleep
Mystic Cube (30): A shield that takes the shape of a cube (can shield the caster and up to three allies), can take a certain number of swings before breaking apart (or could fall apart if concentration is lost)
Fire Whip (28): A whip of fire that burns on contact
Glamour (37): Disguises the caster using magic illusion

Equipment: A crap ton of grimoires and spellbooks that were a gift from Mom, a violin from Dad (she's quite good at it, but doesn't practice at night because she wants to be considerate), and a small hand-mirror that also serves as a communication device between people who have a similar mirror. She also has her cell-phone, laptop, and a Jefferson family staff that serves as both a conduit for her spells and a melee weapon in case she doesn't have time to cast.

Class: Second Year

Nationality: American

Hometown: Cape Cod

Sexuality: Demiromantic pansexual: She prefers guys, but is open to anybody if she likes them enough.

Personality: Cadenza is friendly and outgoing, simultaneously a bookworm and a chatterbox. She reads whatever she can get her hands on and almost always has her nose in a book, especially if it's a magical tome or grimoire. Because of this, it can be kind of hard to get her attention because she's distracted easily unless it comes to friends or spells. When talking about a subject she's interested in, it can be veeeerrryyyy hard to get her to shut up, and she will talk your ear off about that thing if you let her. In her words: "I don't mean to do it, I just get swept up in the moment, y'know?" She likes to impress people with her knowledge of things, and it can either annoy them or work...there's a 50/50 chance most of the time. She's too blunt to be good at flirting, she'll often just tell somebody she likes them outright instead of "wasting time with that shit"

Biography: Cadenza was born in Cape Cod to an Italian father and an American mother. Her father Alessandro is a mundane music teacher, and she was given her name after the Italian word for the musical cadence. Her mother Angelica (nee Jefferson) is from a very old family of magicians, although there were some members that were Hunters, it wasn't exactly what they were known for. Most of them just studied magic for magic's sake, accumulating knowledge and power and they are known in North America for the vast amount of magical knowledge and artifacts that they gathered over the centuries...in this vast library is where young Cadenza spent most of her time. No style of magic was considered too "out there" or too crazy to at least take a peek in, and Angelica let her daughter read whatever she wanted. Eventually when Cadenza got old enough, she would sometimes help her mother in rituals when she wasn't practicing music with her father or studying on her own.

The family moved to Florida when Cadenza turned eighteen as an opportunity to let her go to the Hunter Academy as a way to further her magical education. She however decided that she wanted to go to a mundane college for a year so she didn't miss out on some normalcy, so after a year at Florida State she decided to enroll in the Academy when she turned nineteen. She plans to work hard at her studies, but the truth is she sees being a Hunter as a way to further her magical knowledge, and not really in it for the profession itself although she does have a great respect for it.

Most of it looks fine but I think the category classifications are wrong.

Things such as charm, paralyze, sleep, confusion, tarantella, etc, aren't enchantments. I think a lot of this would go under psychic. Enchantment has to do with enhancing things, I.E. enchanting a weapon to be more effective for example.

Confusion doesn't have a listed cost.

As for the spells, keep in mind that some of them as they are right now would be considered godmods or OP - mainly the ones like making someone instantly sleep or instantly and automatically stunning someone. If a spell has an automatic effect on the enemy, it's going to require a way higher cost to balance it out.

I.E. a spell that shoots a projectile at the enemy wouldn't require a huge mana cost because it's not guaranteed that it hits, lowering the effectiveness. If a spell automatically paralyzes someone, though, it would take a massive mana cost since from the way you have it written it works every time automatically.

SANTA MARINA HUNTER ACADEMY - STUDENT FILE
The following file has been approved for viewing by APPROVED PERSONNEL.

Candace Marin

Name: Candace Marin
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 19
Build: 5'2", 106 lbs
Species: Human

Magic Category/Categories: Astral / Air

Mana Count: 200

Known Spells/Abilities:

  • Air Launch [10] - Candace is able to use the wind and her air magic to launch herself into the air in a specific direction, the wind carrying her and allowing her to glide somewhat. She can control the direction the wind is going but this isn't a one hundred percent precise means of travel by any means - it's more of a loose one designed to put her in a specific area.
  • Star Bolts [10] - Candace can create small bolts of energy which reflect stars - these bolts don't deal enough damage to deal a serious injury in isolation but they do hurt and can do some damage when they add up into a larger attack.
  • Air Strike [20] - This spell strikes out with a blast of compressed air which isn't quite enough to cause serious injury but can push someone far back, stun them, and potentially bruise.
  • Whirlwind [40] - This spell creates a cyclone of wind around Candace to about five feet in any direction, which affects both allies and enemies but makes it hard to attack with projectiles thanks to these projectiles being knocked away by the speed and force of the winds. It can cause damage to structures when used inside them.
  • Star Bomb [40] - Candace can create a star based projectile which is larger than a bolt and would do more damage to someone that comes into direct contact with it. However, the real strength of the somewhat slow moving projectile is that it can be commanded to explode, sending splash damage over a wider area.
  • Astral Form [60] - This ability allows Candace to shift her body into an astral form which cannot interact with the outside world but its capable of walking through solid objects as well as flight. This form is also much harder to see and can only be hurt by magical abilities rather than by physical weapons, but cannot interact with the physical world in exchange for this immunity.
  • Astral Reading [15] - Candace can also read the astral auras of other people and can deduce some information from this such as someone's surface thoughts, their mood, and other such things.
  • Lightning on Command [75] - While this takes up a lot of mana, Candace can send a powerful lightning like blast towards the enemy which is strong enough to break through some kinds of armor, some natural barriers, and other protections. The accuracy of this blast varies although it's most useful as an anti material attack rather than an anti personnel one.
  • Twister [120] - The most powerful move in Candace's arsenal creates a full on whirlwind which can destroy structures and blow away people - the uncontrolled nature of it, though, means it must be used in only the right circumstances. It's not possible to just blow away one thing when using this ability.

Equipment: Candace typically carries an FN Five Seven pistol with her for when magic isn't enough to deal with the situation. Outside of that, she typically goes light on the equipment side, relying on her spells themselves as the weapon rather than carrying magical weapons.

Class: Second Year

Nationality: American / French

Hometown: New York City / Paris

Sexuality: Lesbian

Personality: Candace could be considered a free spirit - if not a little bit of a rebel. She tends to have high expectations on her but moves to the beat of her own drum, having her own priorities and generally preferring to do what she wants rather than listen to the orders of someone else. Within the right crowd, Candace can be social, the kind of person that shows up to raves, makes a decent amount of friends, and goes out at night looking to find entertainment - however, at the same time, Candace can also be unstable, depression prone, and at times overemotional. Much of the negative sides of her personality stem from the pressure of coming from a very relevant mage family and not exactly fitting in with the expectations in place, therefore putting her in a position to be pulled in multiple directions by the different parts of her life.

Biography: Candace is someone that comes from a long line of mages - the Marins are one of the main magic families of France and therefore Europe, and while Germany and Italy and the United Kingdom have a stronger tradition in magic, France isn't exactly anything to laugh at either. Her family is split between a French and American branch, and growing up between New York City and Paris, Candace got experience early and often with both the high society aspects of mage culture as well as some of the underground side of it - when in Paris she found herself surrounded by professional Hunters, and scholars of magic, while in New York City there was a better balance between the same and the more underground and rough elements of the magic community... She often times skipped out of school to run the streets with less sanctioned mage groups, spending time in both the grimier parts of Manhattan and other areas such as Brooklyn and the Bronx, or northern New Jersey, often disappearing from the rest of her family for days on end during these trips where she learned and practiced magic without the supervision of the Association or her family.

Of course, they weren't the happiest about this, and Candace would find herself pulled in multiple directions and becoming a black sheep in the family - she did enough to keep from getting into too much trouble but failed to do enough to be the kind of person that was wanted by the Marin clan. Her older sister, Cassandra, was perhaps the model in her generation of the family that the clan wanted the others to follow... But Cassandra and Candace were very different through high school, Candace having more of an interest in the rough and tumble aspects of magic while Cassandra was an honor student in high school and studied magic under some of the best scholars, excelling in both areas. The contrast between the two created a decent amount of arguments, although Candace's parents perhaps gave up eventually, deciding that it was best to let the girl do what she wants to an extent, realizing that forcing her into a different role would be impossible.

Through her last few of years in high school Candace and her childhood friend from New York City, Vivian Shaw, would spend most of their time outside of school working on a career as unsanctioned and amateur Hunters, mainly operating on the streets of New York City but making excursions to other places to follow after internet rumors of magical happenings in certain areas like New Jersey and Philadelphia. The work was, of course, dangerous - amateur Hunters died, and Candace saw that in the field, seeing that not everyone who went into the life of an amateur Hunter came out of it alive. Still, she learned most of the skills that would eventually bring her to the Santa Marina Academy, building her own skill up on the streets while Cassandra learned her own skills in the completely different setting of the classroom.

But Candace wouldn't be able to stay an amateur forever - pressure from her family brought her back into their grasp to an extent, with her parents somewhat frustrated in her coming back with injuries and being unavailable for the kind of training that they wanted her to do, rather than the kind of training she did in he streets with Vivian and the others that she'd met in New York City chasing after the same goals. The pressure was intense for the last year of high school for her, eventually leading to a compromise... If she learned to be a Hunter officially, rather than working as an amateur, she would be able to go to college away from her family. She joined her family friend Gabriella de Inferenza, along with Vivian, in heading to the Santa Marina Hunter Academy, where she found her grades acceptable in the first year of the academy's existence, which was also her first year in college... At least, her grades were decent enough when she gave enough of a shit about the work, which isn't something that can be taken for granted when it comes to someone with her mindset and her personality as a free spirit and a rebel.

Still looks like any of these "automatic" spells that target other characters should have a much higher cost so you can only use 1-2 spells in a fight if you go for them.

And you can have as many as you can be active with.

Okay...maybe I'll just get rid of all the psychic spells instead of maybe three. You're right, they do seem a bit overpowered.

I've just edited...I hope I've made these a bit more balanced. My next idea is a cambion wizard who specializes in infernal and fire with mild necromancy (although I'll try not to make her overpowered this time). She's the granddaughter of Asmodeus.

Main reason anything automatic has to have a pretty high cost is that it can, well, get through combat without much work at all.

No need to have a drawn out fight if you can just paralyze the enemy by casting one spell for example.

Anyway, the revised app is accepted. Second idea can work in theory but keep in mind that infernal magic is highly looked down upon in Hunter circles while not being technically banned.

A new, quality thread by Forest, nice.
How many hunter academies are there in Europe, and which of them could be considered the most important one?
Might go for a second year transfer with a rather traditional and orthodox view of being a hunter.

I'd say the major countries in Europe generally have them - one in the north and south of Italy, one in the east and west of Germany, one in London, one in Paris, a couple scrambled around more regional places like Luxembourg City, Vienna, Brussels, or Dubrovnik. The Milan Hunter Academy is most likely the most prestigious one because Italy and Germany tend to have the most history with magic.

So I’m definitely interested. I’ve been looking for a new RP to get involved in. It’s been a while.

Before I do anything though I want to ask about darkness and infernal magic, what exactly would these include and why are they frowned upon?
