Brookshire For Senate Rally
Globe Life Park
Arlington, Texas

Image

The Brookshire campaign was well underway now. Their campaign bus was fully stocked and had left from Fort Worth last night. Their kickoff rally had been a success and while hand shaking after the rally had been a good sign of support to common folk, Karen knew she would need to do more. So she had taken a tour of small businesses in Fort Worth following her rally, visiting many and speaking to their owners. She also made some purchases, like food for her staff, trinkets for her at a vintage shop, and a sign from a woodshop. Her purchases had been modest though, at the advice of Mike to avoid looking fake for her purchases. Nonetheless, it had been a nice visit and a good contrast to the Cramp fellow who had been riling up some church folk.

Their arrival at Arlington had been a nice one, once again a recommendation by Mike to avoid simply visiting major cities. Not that Arlington was small. But it would come off better than heading straight to Dallas. Plus, Southern Texas was her territory and with her name synonymous with the grocery stores dominating the region, she knew the people of the city would pull through in not only rallying for her but hopefully voting for her. Plus, they had made a point to stop in the smaller towns they had driven through, enjoying food at local places and speaking to the local officials who were willing. Plus, their donations and connections had worked out in getting a TV ad fast to the rural areas, helping to spread her message.

They had set up outside the iconic field with a raised platform and a podium. The same large American flag from her first rally was behind her, with Highway to Hell by AC/DC blaring on speakers. As her bus arrived, the crowds had already begun to form. Her stops outside of Arlington and around the county had almost certainly driven up the numbers. And that was perfect for showing her strength as a candidate, especially with the other candidates beginning to get out there. She also hoped to turn some of her speech clips into radio ads, drowning out the others on the airwaves would be a key move to avoid anyone saturating voters. But for now, the rally. Nodding at Mike, she climbed the steps to the podium as the song went from the beginning.

“HELLO ARLINGTON, HELLO TEXAS, AND HELLO AMERICA!”

Her hands went up, waving at the crowd. She took a brief pause to place her ‘Fight For America’ hat on as she saw others wearing them too.

“This song, it makes you want to get up! It makes you want to experience FREEDOM, you feel its POWER. Which is fitting for Arlingon, fitting a place that also inspires me to do something, that also resonates FREEDOM AND STRENGTH. You know what Texas needs, some of this FREEDOM AND STRENGTH! These are the very same values of the Texan people that shows we will not be stepped on. That we will not be told to sit quiet while others take our money, put our children in debt, and threaten our values all across this country. We will not be silent! We will FIGHT BACK TO TAKE BACK OUR AMERICA! And the first step to do this is make it clear who we’re fighting for! And that is the common man, the common woman, our children, no matter their race or their religion. Trust me, with this belief, with this common goal, we will be able to deliver real change for Texans and drill some common sense in Washington’s bureaucrats. And we will deliver this TOGETHER!”

“Our nation is being attacked, it is being attacked by out-of-touch politicians who continue to SPEND our money! And I will not sit back while our country, our people, the Texan people, are ROBBED of hard-earned money. Money earned creating small businesses, from the mom and pop shops dotting Texas to the tech startups making us a leader in the new century! Or money earned by the farmers and laborers helping our state GROW and our communities to THRIVE! ESPECIALLY when this money is being spent on programs and purchases unaligned with Texan values. Look at the ardent defense that some give for Planned Parenthood for example! A moral catastrophe, as YOUR MONEY should not be funding these procedures. And when those who defend this institution do so by saying it funds contraception and sex education, I have to wonder why we DO NOT JUST FUND TEXAS TO DO THIS! Let each state’s health and education department do this, give back TEXAS control over OUR MONEY TO DO THINGS IN ACCORDANCE WITH TEXAN VALUES! It is a simple idea, a simple premise that I do not understand why others struggle to get it. And it is an idea I will make a REALITY!”

“But this is not the only bit of wasteful and wrong spending going on in Washington with YOUR MONEY, it is only one of many. And I vow to return this authority to TEXAS and end the other dozens of wasteful programs that Washington has seen fit to remove from our control. They think they know best, they think that because they know Washington, because they worked in the Washington bureaucracy before, they are allowed to tell us commonfolk what we should support. But we CANNOT ALLOW ourselves to be stepped on, because that is what Texas’ representatives have done in the past. They have allowed our local authority, the PRINCIPLES of the Constitution, to be ignored in favor of bigger government. And I PROMISE, I will not allow TEXAN MONEY, MONEY EARNED FROM HARD WORK, to go to waste! NOT ONE MORE CENT! That is a commitment and promise I give y’all, that we can make this government work FOR US ONCE MORE. And in return, I ask for your same commitment and promise to elect me. Because we cannot allow ourselves to falter with a candidate who will make government bigger or stick around taking orders!”

“In fact, I’ve already shown my ability to BRING TEXAN MONEY HOME! Already, my chatter and use of the media has made the idea of a BALANCED BUDGET the talk of the town. And it is no surprise that this piece of my platform, my promise of the BROOKSHIRE BUDGET ACT, forgive me Lord for the vain name (she chuckled as others smiled and laughed), an act that will FORCE our federal government to finally address it's wasteful spending. It cannot be allowed to force this massive debt to continue down the road, to our CHILDREN who will suffer from financial uncertainty. The Feds cannot continue to waste Texan money, I mean it is absurd that right now YOUR MONEY is only paying the interest on this debt, simply UNACCEPTABLE. In fact, NO STATE SHOULD BE TAXED ONLY TO PAY DEBT! We need to fix our debt problem, and by forcing our government to balance the budget, to make cuts of unnecessary programs, we can start strengthening our economy and finally and most importantly, start GIVING YOU FOLKS YOUR MONEY BACK!”

“And we can start by cutting foreign aid significantly. And evaluating our commitments to trade agreements which are not only sending JOBS AWAY to other countries but taking YOUR MONEY, to pay for some foreign prince’s car or house! All the while our cities, like Arlington right here, have homeless, have veterans struggling to make end’s meet, have parent’s unable to support their children, I mean we SIMPLY have to take care of our own FIRST. And that is what I propose, reducing taxes to ZERO to the poorest of Texas and of AMERICA. And providing tax cuts to VETERANS STRUGGLING, for they deserve this more than any rich foreigner! And for others struggling, like the small businesses, know that I have not forgotten what the Brookshire Grocery Company once was, a small business right in Tyler, Texas. So you will also see MASSIVE TAX CUTS as well, to bring our money home and grow businesses right in the USA. And this will ALL BE PAID for by all the foreign dollars we are going to bring back to America. So know this, that if I win, I AM BRINGING YOUR MONEY BACK HOME!”

“Now, there is another need going unmet in Texas right now, and that is the rule of law. It is being UNDERMINED all cross this country, with criminals running rampant and our most vulnerable under attack! Simply put, we must reinstate the FULL FORCE of the law once more. For starters, the DEATH PENALTY MUST COME BACK, for we CANNOT ALLOW for the worst of humanity like domestic terrorists to go free, wasting away in prisons already expensive. Receiving programming when law-abiding citizens suffer from opioids, poverty, and much more! Crime WILL NOT BE wrought in Texas and this country will begin to CRACK DOWN on rapists and horrible sexual assaulters of women, men, and children! And, for once, I shall also like to see LYNCHING and other VIOLENT RACIAL CRIMES finally stamped out! We will not see a safer AMERICA without it! All Texans must feel safe, and all Texans must be safe. All of America must be safe. Thus, I hope to lead this charge to fight for America and restore justice.”

“Of course, this also means finally stopping the ILLEGAL immigration coming through our southern border, and getting the federal government to STEP UP. We must strengthen the border and establish ways to deter immigrants, by stopping them before they enter TEXAS! It cannot continue, especially when now foreigners are sending waves of children. We must FIGHT for border security like no other!I will not see our border be the site where Texans SUFFER from crime and foreign children DIE. IT IS NOT CHRISTIAN. Just as it is not moral to allow for our own children, our own unborn to continue to be ABORTED without consequence across the country. So I intend to finally help bring about the changes to stop these cruel deaths. And people will tell you it cannot be done, they’ll give excuses, but I PROMISE it is POSSIBLE! Especially when the WOMAN leading the effort is a TEXAN THROUGH AND THROUGH, with the resolve to not be defeated and the strength to FIGHT FOR AMERICA!”

“This is the message I will drive through Washington, through the Senate and spread across this state as I campaign. The message that the American people, and specifically the TEXAN PEOPLE, are tired of being taken advantage of. In fact, dozens of Presidents and former Senators have promised to bring changes, saying ONLY THEY CAN DO IT. They were lying. And already, those running on the fringe right now are trying to say the same, that only they can solve our problems. Only they know our values. And frankly, I’m gonna tell them to shut the HELL UP! I’m gonna do things with y’all, TOGETHER, so that TOGETHER, we can bring about OUR infrastructure reform, to repave OUR roads and make OUR towns like new. That is my final promise tonight is this, one I know that I will deliver. I will bring forth an infrastructure bill funded by SLASHING the bureaucracy, and giving the money directly to the states. New MASSIVE grants to allow each state to do this, taking our MONEY BACK for our own uses. These REBUILD AMERICA GRANTS will give cities like Arlington, smaller cities like Tyler, my hometown, the state, and even this country the means to control where YOUR MONEY is being spent. Time to fix our country, ON OUR TERMS, TOGETHER!”

“And like I said, already, these ideas are gaining traction. I talk Balanced Budget, the other Republicans in the race follow to make sure they say it. So why support a knock off version of a conservative, some washed up politicians who never did anything or some single-issue candidate fighting on a single front. Or a businessman who left his business after 2008 for a cushy government job. NO. It is time for a renewed vision, someone who is a TRUE conservative, who will fight on ALL issues, and who fought to KEEP JOBS! We need to have LARGE GOALS and DREAMS for what we can accomplish, go beyond what is expected. Like I said at my other rallies, when we went to Space and beat the Soviets, we did THE IMPOSSIBLE. And now, we can DO IT AGAIN. By BALANCING THE BUDGET to ELIMINATE taxes for the poor, and CUT taxes on the middle-class, REBUILD our states on our terms, and STRENGTHEN our laws for the vulnerable and to protect America.”

“And this is not a fantasy, this is not something I just made up. No, it something I know I can make happen, something WE can make happen for. And perhaps equally importantly, something WE CAN PAY FOR. The real fantasy is thinking that someone promising a million new expensive things is going to make it all happen, that’s the real lunacy. No, this is a PROMISE, a promise to not relent, to not give up, to be strong in the face of Washington, and deliver for Texas, for AMERICA! While I have never served, I have met many who have. And they tell me this, that even in the worst times, we cannot give up on what America means. And that is an America free for all, where all can make it. And like during times of war, we MUST ALL PITCH IN. Together, it is time to make that true, and I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON YOU, because I KNOW Y’ALL WILL NOT GIVE UP ON ME! Together on election day, we will FIGHT FOR AMERICA!”

Music began to blare once again as she waved, stepping off the platform to greet supporters, shaking hands. She began to kiss some babies, enjoying this part. As her big body moved through the wave of supporters, she continued to nod as some explained their support for her and posed with others. Her new ad played on screens adjacent to the stage, as the music switched to the sounds of the ad. Cheering erupted as Karen continued to take in the rally. On the other hand, Mike had already prepared the rental car. The bus would stay here, as Karen would visit some startups and small businesses in the city. She also had scheduled a brief meeting with some veteran’s groups, thanks to a connection in Arlington, with the press invited to hopefully make that an additional splash.

The schedule was tight but on purpose, it was only a day in Arlington. The night would be spent in Plano, with a late night meeting with college students from nearby. It was also going to include a dinner with business leaders, a nice time to plug her connections and hopefully continue her influx of donations. It would be an important tool to hopefully out spend her competitors, as much as some cared to believe otherwise. The next day would include a series of chats with local business women and then some African-American groups about preventing violent hate crimes. Mike had been hesitant but Karen had accepted the offer given her platform. It was an eventful schedule and one necessary as the other Senatorial candidates spread across the state.

It's certainly tougher for the Republicans in the race, but the Democrats need to consolidate. But I just don't know if she can build a winning campaign. Problem is, she's going to hit me hard from my left. We can't afford to screw this up; I don't want to spend time bickering with a fellow Texas Democrat, but at some point the gloves are gonna come off - during the debate or earlier. So I guess I was just asking for your advice, how to deal with this."

The governor came from his fishing trip, arriving in a small motorcade, exiting in his boots, fatigues and hat. He nodded over to Richardson.
"Welcome to Cheyenne, Governor. I hope you can see the nice changes I've made to the place."

He was going to meet the good Governor Lee fo Alabama.

Burgun sporting a navy blue suit was not ready for the Alabama sunshine, by the time he reached the Governor's mansion he was visibly red and sweating.

He shakes the mans hand.
"So... come inside the car, let's talk."
He leads the man into the vehicle, nodding as he opens the door and walking inside.
He grabs a pen and paper from the seat.
"Now... what did you want to discuss?"

“2020” he says nonchalantly strolling to the car door and not entering “I was hoping I could get your support.”

"Advance our values, defend life, uphold the law, cut taxes, and deliver a balanced budget" is just a ripoff of "Defending the Constitution, Fixing Our Taxes, and Balancing the Budget." Sorry, but you're going to need more than a thesaurus to beat my campaign. Texans appreciate honesty, and your dishonest smears show that you care more about your ego than the issues or Texas values. #MarkAllen4Senate #TheConstitutionalChoice

No ripoff here except your plan to balance the budget right after I first started talking about it again. But let's have the voters decide June 6th, I trust Texans to know who is the real deal.

Unsure of the number but having expected a call, Karen composed herself before answering the call.

"Hello, this is Karen Brookshire."

She waited, holding her breath.

Mark Allen Rally
Laredo, Texas
Hosted by the Republican Immigrant Society of South Texas
The Mexican Border

Mark took the stage in Laredo, a city known for its position on the Mexican border and its 9/10ths Hispanic population. This would be a challenge to Mark, even though Laredo was only several hours from Shiner, it was like another world to him. The speech would need to be tailored to an audience much different than the ones he would encounter on the Panhandle or East Texas. He came to the stage with a tone a little more of a subdued tone than he did in his early campaign stops. It was a heavily Democratic city, but Mark had connections to a group of Republicans down there.

“There’s nowhere on earth I would rather be today than Laredo, Texas, thank you for coming out and supporting me in the race for Senate. My name is Mark Allen, and I believe in a future for our country where government respects your constitutional rights, reduces the middle-class tax burden, and ends wasteful spending. It’s a worthy message to spread, and it’s one that I am honored to share in such a historical place.”

“Laredo is a beautiful city with such a unique, admirable heritage. Behind me is the flag of the Republic of the Rio Grande, and Laredo’s history is built on equal footing of two great republics, the United States of America and our great ally and neighbor Mexico. And to this day, Laredo is a beautifully diverse and cultural city; a border town with unbelievable patriotism, hosting the biggest George Washington’s Birthday Celebration in the world. This city is one of the most patriotic places I have ever been.”

“I’m going to be really open and honest right now. We know well that there are Republicans who recently have made some very disappointing comments about Mexico and people of Mexican heritage. I’m extremely opposed to those comments. There is no need to disparage people’s ethnicity in order to rile up a nationalist base. I believe in the Martin Luther King version of America, that everyone be treated equal.”

“Each and every person in this crowd is as much of an American patriot as anyone in any city I have campaigned in. Therefore, I know that each and every one of you is receptive to my platform, that being that I pledge to spend my days in the Senate Defending the Constitution, Fixing Our Taxes, and Balancing the Budget”

“Due to where we stand today, I’m sure that some of you wonder about my plans for immigration and the border. I am not one of these closed-border purists who believes in treating Laredo and Nuevo Laredo like they are worlds away from each other. I believe in instituting daytime work visa programs to allow employees more freedom to cross each way between cities. I believe in increasing legal immigration, and securing the border after we create an immigration system that offers better refuge for those fleeing from turmoil and allows us to bring in a healthy balance of workers of all skill levels. I also believe in doing things better when it comes to our relationship with Mexico. We need more cross-border trade agreements, free trade with our allies, and programs to help immigrants get established in America. While a country is not a country without borders, it is even less of a country without people, and America will always be open to those who share the values enumerated in our constitution.”

“But I’m not here today to just talk about immigration and the border, because I know y’all care about much more than that. Our Second Amendment right to bear arms is in danger. Our right to defend ourselves from tyranny is core to the fabric of our nation. It is a deep-rooted part of our history, from George Washington commanding farmers and townspeople to take up arms against the oppressive Brits, to brave Texans standing against oppression at the Alamo. The right to bear arms is a time-honored tradition and is essential in defending our rights. I am committed to being the most strongly pro-gun candidate in this race.”

“It’s no secret that some of the areas near the border suffer from crime related to America’s drug habit. Democrats are wanting to disarm you in the face of this threat, and many Republicans blame the good people of these border towns for this struggle. But I am not in either of those camps, I simply want to preserve your constitutional right to defend yourself from these kind of threats.”

“I also believe in your children’s future. So many immigrants come into our country for economic opportunity, and for hundreds of years, every generation of Americans has had more economic opportunity than the last. But with crippling national debt and a growing tax burden, the next generation may be the first to make less than their parents. We can’t let this happen, we must take proactive steps to reduce debt and restructure taxes to continue to make America a place that provides opportunity for future generations.”

“Between my platform and my stance for Texas values, I believe that I am the best choice in the race today. I'm not going to "throw shade" at my opponents on Twitter like Karen Brookshire, and I'm not going to play the petty political games that others seem to be pretty caught up in. And from what I've heard, that's what Texans like, an honest, people-focused campaign. Not liars and keyboard warriors without real plans for America. I’m glad that you have given me your time, please have a safe drive home”

Senator Augusta Merriam
Kolodziej Family Mansion, Auburn, New Hampshire

Senator Merriam was up in New Hampshire, spending time with her blood relatives and handling some local work in and out of nearby Manchester and Concord, before she got the call that the President's son wanted to see her. Her opinion of the President was renownedly low, and her opinion of his son wasn't exactly sparkling, but a consummate professional, she committed to hearing him out. She waited in the living room, trusting her brother's housekeeper would handle any at-the-door pleasantries, pacing as she nursed a glass of bourbon, taking occasional sips of the dark liquor, revelling in the burn as she waited.
