Tim Westra 2020
April 30th, 2019
Henderson, Nevada

Another day, another meeting with labor. Today Tim was back in his strongest state of Nevada, following the SEIU conference he attended three days ago to discuss his economic vision. He had his sights on Velez making inroads with labor groups in the state. He intended to kill that.

He shook hands with the local AFL-CIO members and leaders, who were holding a weekly meeting today at their Henderson HQ. Tim was a keynote speaker. Nevada had the most robust unions out of any of the early states, and Tim intended to flex muscle among these groups. This was a state that Diane Clifford won in 2016, so he brought along his campaign manager Jameela Alam, who had contacts with many of these early state unions and thus gave him an edge out here.

He approached the podium to deliver his remarks.

"Folks, thanks for inviting me. Working people really do make the world go round. They built this podium, they built this stage, they built this room, they built this building, they built this entire damn city! You make the world go round, you really do. It's a fact that grounds me, it's a fact that I never forget."

"You know, there's a quote that I have framed in my New Jersey office. It's a quote I remember everyday, it stays at the front of my mind. It says, The only answer to organized greed is organized labor. It was uttered by the great Thomas Donahue, a revered leader of AFL-CIO in the roaring 20's."

"He lived in a time similar to ours. Opulence, luxury, excess - but only for some. Union membership was in rampant decline in no small part due to government prosecution of prominent unionists under the Espionage Act. The union busting from the 80's until today is largely in the same vein."

"And the billionaire class, they know which side they are on. They are afraid of the labor movement, the progressive movement. They own the media and write the narrative to paint us as radical socialists. They own the Congressmen on Capitol Hill who'd rather waste time on petty partisan divides than on delivering real reform for the working class. They own the the legislature and executive branch, and they write the trade deals and decide who gets tax breaks or not. And they own the judiciary, who refuse to break their monopolies up or prosecute them for their illegal activity in banking or marketing."

"We're not socialists! The average working person, the union man – he's no theoretical, Lenin-worshipping, Trotsky-adhering Marxist! That's laughable! We don't want more concentration of the economy! We just want a fair shot! Equal footing! Dignity! The pursuit of happiness, is that not the promise of America?"

"And yet there are still some, wolf in sheep's clothing, who beg for your support while holding up the rigged economy. There are people in this race who fundamentally believe that the profits of the multinational corporations and the dividends paid to shareholders in the 1% are more important than keeping American jobs!"

"For God's sake, we have a candidate in this race who claims to be for the working family, but whose biggest accomplishment during his time in the White House was to initiate negotiations to enter the disastrous Trans Pacific Partnership, which would have destroyed in excess of 2 million American jobs, more than half in manufacturing!"

"Had President Wolf not made the decision to pull out of this disastrous trade deal, American jobs would have been destroyed and wages would have been depressed. These kinds of trade deals have resulted in a $37 billion wage loss for the American worker, and some Democrats think we should double down! I don't know about you, but I don't think we are safe with a nominee that is worse on trade than this president! Imagine another death for the Democratic Party in the industrial Midwest with a candidate who was literally the architect of TPP!"

"Look, I have lived the American working class life. I know the pain experienced by an entire town, an entire people, when you lose a manufacturing plant, or a factory, or when your job moves overseas. My town, Freehold Borough, we had to deal with that. I was 8 years old, just like in Springsteen's 'My Hometown,' when the A & M Karagheusian plant closed down. That's the textile mill that the Boss was referring to in the song. It shook our entire community. Almost 1,700 people were left without work upon it's closing. My dad's friends, two of my uncles - they became destitute. Families were hungry. People got behind on rent, and were soon evicted."

"It's the same story in Flint, Michigan, or Janesville, Wisconsin, or Lordstown, Ohio. This is the story of the American working class. So, these trade deals, they're personal to me. This issue is personal to me. It's a big deal. And I made it my life's mission to oppose any systematic effort on behalf of the U.S. government to get involved in these job-destroying deals."

"I fought really hard against NAFTA as a Senate policy advisor. I was on the House floor in 2005, yelling at the top of my lungs against CAFTA. Some thought the group I was leading would succeed. In the end, it passed by a single vote."

"I am the only candidate to have released a plan specifically laying out how I want to deal with trade as president. Folks in this race, they're gonna keep claiming these trade deals benefit the economy. You guys know what's up. TPP, NAFTA, CAFTA - they only benefit the multinational corporations and their shareholders, a third of whom are foreign investors. Not American workers, who lose their jobs or see their wages go down."

"Unlike the insiders, I don’t think 'free trade' deals that benefit big multinational corporations and international capital at the expense of American workers are good simply because they open up markets. Trade is good when it helps American workers and families — when it doesn’t, we need to change our approach. And unlike Wolf, while I think tariffs are an important tool, they are not by themselves a long-term solution to our failed trade agenda and must be part of a broader strategy that this Administration clearly lacks."

"Our current approach to negotiating trade agreements works great for the wealthy and the well-connected. The negotiating text is kept confidential from all but a small set of advisory groups comprised mostly of corporate executives and industry trade group representatives. Once those corporate interests are finished whispering in the ears of our negotiators, the completed text is released. Then, under the expedited 'Fast Track' procedure Congress typically uses to approve trade agreements, our elected representatives must vote up or down on the agreement with no ability to propose and secure any changes to it. Meanwhile, the negotiators who constructed it often breeze through the revolving door to take jobs with the corporations whose interests underlie the deal."

"This a process overseen by U.S. Trade Representatives and Presidents of times past, and one I want to change. In a Westra Administration, we will negotiate and approve trade agreements through a transparent process that offers the public a genuine chance to shape it. We will make sure that trade negotiators will publicly disclose negotiating drafts and provide the public with an opportunity to comment. Trade advisory committees will prioritize the views of workers and consumers, and unions will have a seat at the negotiating table. The US International Trade Commission will provide a regional analysis of the economic effects of a trade agreement, so there will be no spin by the Washington insiders. And then, once that's all done, we will change the rules so that Congress has a chance to propose changes to these deals."

"I will also ensure that any trade deal we negotiate contains provisions to bar currency manipulation. Just eliminating currency manipulation in our international trade agreements would create 5.8 million jobs, with over 40% of that in manufacturing! I will fight for trade deals that prevent this malfeasant tool to kill American industry."

"My economic agenda is revolutionary on trade, but also domestically. We will give workers a say in the corporations that they hold up! We'll enforce laws that require corporations to share stock with workers, so workers become shareholders with a stake in the company. We'll require that 40% of corporate board seats are elected by employees. We'll enact first contract provisions to ensure companies cannot prevent a union from forming by denying a first contract. We'll create new rules so that unions can form through a simple majority sign up process, allowing the NLRB to certify a union if it receives the consent of the majority of eligible workers."

"This is pro-worker policy, an agenda that revolves around the working class. This is not airy talk about 'economic stewardship' or 'democratic socialism.' That means nothing to me. We need a concrete, detailed policy agenda to fight for workers in the White House and on Capitol Hill. Anything else is fluff."

"Folks, I strive to be a candidate that you can trust. My entire life has been about making political changes for workers. From creating the Blue Collar Caucus, to fighting against NAFTA and TPP, to writing Bahariacare, I have demonstrated that I can govern and create the coalition necessary to institute pro-worker reforms. I always say it, I'll say it again: fighting for workers in government is my life's work. And now, I hope to bring that labor lens to the top of the political system."

"Thank you, I would be humbled by your support, and may God bless our workers."

Rogue justices are the biggest threat to our democracy at this point! They are ordering racial quotas in the Police, forbidding the President from enforcing the law and ending DACA, asserting liberal social programs in terms of "public interest". We need more elected judges who are accountable to the people.

Jack Chambers Western Tour: Colorado Springs
Image

Colorado Springs, the home of the Air Force Academy, was a charming mid sized city high up in altitude filled with natural beauty and national pride. It was a perfect spot for Jack and his team to do some retail politics. The Governor traversed local establishments, shaking hands, kissing babies, and thoughtfully listening to questions posed from young cadets and the town locals who catered to the Academy. Jack later took some time to visit a few local churches where he lead groups into prayer and spoke about religious liberties and expression with devout parishioners.

It was a busy day and it was capped with a trip to the Academy itself where he gave a speech to a group of cadets and officers plus instructors on free time at the iconic Cadet Chapel:

My name is Jack Chambers and I want to thank you all for the immense privilege of speaking with you all here today. I owe this opportunity to speak from God's divine will and the freedoms and protections entrusted to me from the brave service and sacrifices of our Nation's military.

This beautiful chapel is the perfect aesthetic for our air force, a group of stout god given defenders of our nation's freedoms and ideals. Freedoms and ideals ranging from the practice of any faith without harm or fear, or the ability to speak freely against tyranny and oppression. This nation is a haven of liberty and we have you to thank for that

I pray that each one of you cadets will go on to succeed in all aspects of life while continuing to defend the freedoms and ideals that make our nation of pillar of liberty for the entire world.

In response to that, I now want to bring up the Chaplain to lead us in a prayer promising protection and defense for all of our armed servicemen both home and abroad.

After a smattering of disciplined applause, the chaplain came up and gave a short prayer. After the prayer Jack and his staff mingled with cadets and instructors discussing his campaign ideas and views on the valiant service of American soldiers.

After leaving the chapel, Jack and his staff got dinner at a local restaurant where campaign materials were distributed and Jack shook hands and advertised his outreach program for interested voters. It was late that night when everyone returned to the bus to head out for the next stop

@NHSenatorMerriam

Glad to see that both Democrats and Republicans agree that the Off Fossil Fuels Act is underbaked, underprepared and underrefined. I hope that the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources gives it a thorough looking over, and works to remove the most severe and damaging parts of the bill. Progress should be made on the climate, but it cannot be done at the cost of six million jobs. That is unacceptable.

Governor Jonah Prendergast
Concord, New Hampshire
Monday 29th April, 2019

Image

Image

After having committing Sunday to being a day of rest, Jonah continued his campaign with no loss of enthusiasm. He felt that his trip to Nashua had gone well. He felt his interview with NRATV went well. And he felt that his last tour of Nevada had been a success. On the whole, despite the obvious threats of Porter and Arnold Jr., he was well positioned to build up to his pre-debate cap, and he was determined that in those debates, he would shine. New Hampshire was, he felt, going well, and he had no intention of squandering the opportunities that existed here.

Keen on their low taxes, he'd spoken before about the New Hampshirite "Pledge" when he first came to the Granite State. Whilst the Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers didn't endorse candidates explicitly, they did give indicators to which candidates were talking the right talk, and he wanted a positive rating with them. His campaign had reached out to them about setting up an opportunity for him to talk about taxation and government, and with a warm smile on his face as he came up to speak, he waved to the group filling the hired space at Concord's Centennial Hotel, with lobster rolls set out for people to eat as an additional sweetener to attend.

After being introduced by a senior organizer of the Coalition, Jonah rose from his seat and went to deliver his remarks.

"Good afternoon, everyone. It's a pleasure to be hosted here by the Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers, and it's a pleasure to be back in the Granite State, a state for whom I have no shortage of affection. That's not just me politicking, but me speaking as a man who understands business, from the operations on a national or international scale, right down to ordinary working folks in our middle and working classes.

New Hampshire is a success story. At a time when pundits on the left consistently cry the death knell of American industry and business in the face of foreign competition and globalization, we've seen time and again how New Hampshire continues to remain strong. It's a simple formula. A replicable formula. And it's a direct consequence of the work that you do, the Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers, in fighting against unfair taxation and the corrupt mishandling of your taxes. Because you don't take the euphemism at face value, you know that when people talk about 'public money', or 'state money', or 'government money', they're really talking about your money. The money of hardworking taxpayers who toil away 9 to 5, five days a week, and find that Johnny Government has decided to cream off a bit for themselves.

Except New Hampshire isn't like states like New York, or Illinois. You had the guts to stand up to your elected officials, and you demanded better. Good on you, New Hampshire! You make the people you elect swear "The Pledge". You said no to broad based taxes and you won! And because of that low tax environment, New Hampshire is successful. With President Wolf, we've seen the reduction of taxes across the United States. And 'lo and behold, the country learns what you have always known. Letting people spend their own damn money is a self-made success story!

So I'd like to take this opportunity to take the Pledge, if you'll humor me. I promise you that I will not support any increase in the federal income tax, and I will support its reduction. I will veto any attempt to create a federal sales tax. No more broad-based taxes from the Federal Government!

Alongside the work you've done to prevent socialistic tax rises in New Hampshire, you've also strived to keep them accountable in how they collect and spend your taxes. Yet we haven't seen that same level of accountability on a federal level. We know from press reports that the I.R.S. was corruptly and maliciously targeting conservative groups. But without a full, incisive investigation, we don't know the full extent of the rot. I am the only candidate for President from either party dedicated to appointing a Special Counsel to investigate the I.R.S. and tear out the corruption root and stem. Because unchecked, who knows how far the I.R.S.' s interference may go?

There is every risk, every danger, that the I.R.S. is using its authorities to target groups like your own, who show resistance to a tax-based agenda. There is every possibility that they are leaning on the scales just enough to fudge elections and devalue the integrity of the American ballot. We don't know what the hell is going on, and that's why we need to mobilize the full authority of the Department of Justice to see the I.R.S. cleansed of its malign and crooked intentions! There can be no more tomfoolery with people's taxes!

The Wolf tax cuts were an ambitious package that supercharged our economy, but it's time to take the training wheels off. Let's make low taxes a permanent reality in the United States. As President, I am committed to making the Wolf tax cuts permanent! And I will unveil a Presidential Commission to thoroughly explore the tax code. The U.S. Internal Revenue Code has tripled in length in the past thirty years. It is over 70,000 pages long. And that's on top of states and local taxes where applicable. They complain about the length of the tax code in the U.K., where it's 12 times longer than the Bible. But it's only 17,000 pages long! A quarter the length of ours! We dream of a 17,000 page long tax code!

My Presidential Commission on the Taxation of Americans will explore ways to simplify and streamline that tax code, bring down taxes wholesale for ordinary Americans like yourselves, and overall, create a fairer regime. A lot of presidential candidates talk about fairness, but whilst Dayton dithers on about twisting the electoral system to suit her needs or Murphy muses about letting unregulated unions loose on our society, I'm committed to real fairness. A tax system that serves Americans, not demanding that Americans serve it.

Whilst a Prendergast Administration will be built on lower taxes and on greater accountability, we've also got to look at how we spend the revenue we do collect. That money should not be spent on bureaucracy, it should be spent on the services that serve you. Protecting social security for our seniors, supporting education, transportation and infrastructure. Making American lives better. We can do that by making our federal government more efficient. A Cabinet secretary earns over $200,000 a year. The Administration of the E.P.A. earns over $100,000 a year. Among my many propositions is the notion that we can more efficiently and cost effectively conduct the operations of the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency by merging them into the Department of the Interior. Strip back the excess bureaucracy, focus the money on services, and we deliver a better service to Americans without spending as much. It's simple. That's how you win in America.

The Presidential salary of $400,000? I will return it, by check, to the United States Treasury. I will require my Vice President to do the same, and any Cabinet secretary I have who is independently wealthy likewise. Government officials should not be receiving money they do not need. In my budget proposal to Congress, I will propose that congressional salaries be means-tested, so that Senators and Representatives who are independently wealthy cease to be leeches on the American taxpayer. I dare anyone to stand up and tell me that people like Erika Goldman who live with incredible, inherited wealth deserves to receive $174,000 a year. What is she going to do with that money? Why does she need it more than ordinary Americans?

I recognize the anger in our society about tax. I'm listening, and I'm eager to help work with good, decent men and women like you to find a solution to the problem before us. You deserve a square deal from Government, and you've not received that. I thank you all for coming here to listen to me, and it's been wonderful to meet you."

After his talk, Jonah committed himself to shaking hands in the crowd and having some conversations with the people there. He had staffers remind them of his donation and volunteer avenues, of course - he could always use a bigger operation here. Jovial, warm and grandfatherly, he committed himself to projecting a sense that he would protect these people and their rights - that was his honest to God pledge. He only hoped that they would see this juncture as positively as he did.

"Let me say this, and I don't say it lightly, the establishment has declared war on us. Tim, by the sounds of that, is trying to distance himself from the progressive wing of the party, something I have worried about happening sometime soon. I think part of his shift to the right-wing of the party is clear in his recent campaign adviser picks. His literal campaign manager is an ex-Clifford staffer and another was in the Baharia Administration. He's lost all touch with our wing, I'm afraid to say it. First with the public option and private insurance pandering, now this."

He let that sink in for a moment. "We're not going to take this lying down, right Senator? We need to fight back. I believe that starts with revoking your endorsement for Tim Westra - what he's demonstrated to me is that he is not all as progressive as he's made out to be. I think that action from you would make it very clear that we are Democratic Socialists and that we are not willing to bow the party apparatus," he said, taking a sip of water. "I want to also come down to Massachusetts and campaign on you behalf. We need you, you are the mother of all progressives in Washington D.C. and no corporate hack, former Governor is going to take that away from us."

Abby had noticed Tim's recent hires, along with his frequent overtures to the more moderate Sharansky to campaign for him while keeping her endorsement on the sidelines. That, coupled with his recent phone call, all fell into a pattern of a shift in tone to the centrist wing of the party.

She knew which way she was leaning. But, she had a reelection to deal with. Levi might be the polling leader, but this was a heavily splintered field and this said nothing of his potential to boost her polling numbers. Who knew, he might drag her down.

"Senator, I'm leaning towards making an explicit endorsement of solely your campaign. Perhaps I can do it through the PAC. This field needs to start narrowing down to one progressive and there's zero doubt in my mind that you are that person. I appreciate the help, I just need to think on a lot of things."

"I understand, and thank you. We need to pull out all stops to win your primary. Would you appreciate me visiting to campaign for you, or is that something you wouldn't prefer?"

Levi scratched his head before adding. "Massachusetts is still an important state in Super Tuesday, and while I barnstorm there I can also promote you. Perhaps I could throw in a bit of money from my campaign into your PAC."

Karel, having finished up yet another period of downtime fielding "hard cases" from what he called "his constituent services department", decided to reach for some refreshment from his favorite fast food joint in the whole world: Papaya King!

He pulled out a half-gallon jug of Papaya Tropical Drink from the fridge, pouring himself a glass and reminiscing to himself about his last visit to this purveyor of hot dogs and tropical beverages.

Russell Senate Office Building, Washington D.C.

Goldman, ready for the meeting and carrying a briefcase, came in, checked with the receptionist, and waited outside Volek's office for the meeting.

The receptionist informed Volek of his colleague's arrival, and the New Yorker promptly opened the door to his office. "Come on in, Senator. Welcome! Would you care for a refreshing fruit beverage?"

Porter Fundraiser and Retail Politics - Las Vegas, Nevada

After his jaunt in Reno, he went to Las Vegas, continuing this style of quiet coalition-building. He once again had an open-door fundraiser, answering people's questions in a warm and calm tone. The entire event was carefully managed, with Porter speaking in highly-spun yet genuinely-sounding terms. He spoke to local journalists, taking calmer and more moderate stances on issues he was asked about than he would in a campaign speech.

The Birmingham Event wasn't as fatal as his opponents made it out to be, of course. All it took was some damage control, and he'd bounce back in polling. Right? It didn't matter for now whether he was right...Only in the future. He had all sorts of food and drink served that people would pay for, shaking their hands and making as much contact with them as possible.

He explained his thoughts and ideas, but most of all he made himself seem approachable. He made himself seem like a victim, someone whose words were bent by the political establishment, someone whose character was assassinated. He carried an air of sympathy, as people often like to support the underdog, even if consciously they prefer the ones on top nonetheless.

He spent most of the morning and much of the afternoon doing this trust-building, and after finishing, he took all those that would go and began to disperse many of them to do canvassing, keeping a few with him so that they could easily cover territory, and knocking on houses with the same gentle, warm tone that he did earlier. Of course many called him a Nazi or a fascist, but he did the best he could to attempt to dispel these in a calm manner, and again projecting that same image that he was a victim, that he was being falsely branded. He instructed all his allies to take this tone too, as Porter was only going to take this hostile tone against other politicians.

He was going to run a positive campaign, focusing on how he could protect America. He was going to build local support amongst state after state and hopefully get his campaign back above 10% by the end of the month. He spent the rest of the day canvassing, in both Las Vegas and in Paradise, recruiting people, getting donations and having people sign up as he went along. He needed to reach low-info voters and he was going to do it as much as he could.

Levi Murphy Event with Nevada Progressive Coalition
Las Vegas, Nevada

Image

To have the upper-edge in Nevada, Levi made it his priority to visit some of the key influencers in the state, particularly progressive organisations that could help centralize the progressive vote behind himself, rather than other candidates trying to make their mark on Nevada. The Nevada Progressive Coalition was a relatively small organisation, formed in 2016 during the wave of Baginski, but it had a very devoted and activist grassroots corp. Mounting troops on the country in a state like Nevada was important as the state would be voting in a caucus, and all having every man and woman on deck would be important. Levi had already left his mark on Las Vegas after airing cable ads in Las Vegas and Reno, a test to see how effective they were. But when Levi arrived, he understood that the advertisement was very popular among this progressive base.

Before speaking at the event with the Progressive Coalition, he made it his job to go around to speak with all of the activists, usually from working-class or middle-class families interested in making a change. A particularly large amount of them were Latino or Hispanic voters too, an important demographic to win in a state such as Nevada. He went around making him known to the people, usually involved a lot of hand-shaking and small-talk, but he ensured that he included policy in his discussions. He believed the way that he could win this support was through talking about his policies, because after all, he was the most progressive candidate running for President. Medicare for All, in particular, was a good point to raise, as many of these workers were struggling with medical bills, or their employers insurance program was below standard. After that, he was invited to speak to the gathered group.

"Nevada Progressive Coalition, you are the best," he said, the crowd obviously laughed and clapped. "I remember in 2016, when you guys founded your group, we were all fighting incredibly hard to elect Mr Baginski. As one of the first in the nation to endorse him for President,
I understand the uphill battle we had to fight, making our ideals and positions the mainstream - and truly, look how far we've gone. Even the more moderate of the candidates in the Democratic race are moving to the left on healthcare. But, we must also keep in mind, that is not enough. Considering our friend Baginski moved this race further to the left, I am still the only candidate stumping and barnstorming across this state and country for Medicare for All! I recently attended a Presidential Healthcare Forum, I was the only one standing up for Medicare for All. The same Medicare for All that Baginski stood up for valiantly in 2016 and came so close to clinching the nomination. I believe that if you want to call yourself a progressive, you need to carry that mantle, and that mantle must include Medicare for All." There was applause.

"I spoke with a woman this evening, Loretta, and she told me she was welcome with the idea of me sharing her story. Loretta, who many of you may know, is a mother of three children, but a single mother and struggling to make ends meet. When her union went to bargain for healthcare, the business left them short, under-insuring her and her family. Now, after breaking her leg outside of work, she has no coverage and has had to take out massive loans to pay for her procedures. This is not an uncommon story in Nevada, or in the United States of America as a whole. It is the story of our broken healthcare system, a system designed to profit off of you, not provide you with quality healthcare. It is not designed to provide healthcare, the private health insurance industry is designed to rip you off, designed to make billions in profit as it does now and designed to undercut those who have their plans. Yet we have some Democratic candidates, well, actually all except for me, talking about the NEED for the private insurance. No, we do not need private health insurance. What we need is Medicare for All, the expansion of Medicare to cover everyone and eliminate private health in the process."

"So, I'm not proud I'm the only candidate standing up for Medicare for All, but it's the truth. We need a political revolution, nothing less, to transform this country for the better. It is paramount that we give universal, single-payer healthcare to all Americans now! The more we wait, the more tens of thousands of Americans die per year without being to access healthcare. I'm running to keep the political revolution started by Baginski going, and I won't let you down. Because my motto is simple, I'm working for the many, not the few."

“Well, Mr President. With regard to the Republican Primaries, Governor Richardson requested a meeting with me in which he asked for my advice with regard to his presidential campaign. My suggestion was at the Congressional Caucus thought that it wouldn’t be the best time for him to run currently and therefore advised he consider suspending his campaign in favour of someone more connected to the Wolf agenda. However, the Governor disagreed and argued that midterms were a landslide defeat for the administration.”

Rock music plays, as one of the nation’s most popular conservative talk radio shows, resumes following a commercial break.

MS: “Welcome back, patriots, to the Schneider Show, it’s me, your host Mack Schnieder. We’ve got an action packed last hour of the show coming up for you. We are going to talk about why I think Bernard Porter is a fraud, how Baharia’s contested birthplace is vital to the 2020 race, and then, of course, we’ll be taking calls. But first, joining us from his home studio is Presidential candidate and Governor of the great state of North Carolina, Nate Richardson. Welcome to the show, governor.”

Richardson: “It’s a pleasure to be here, I've been a longtime listener.”

MS: “Glad to hear it, maybe you’ll actually have decent takes on the issues, then. I wish more politicians listened. Anyway, Governor, you caught yourself in the middle of a crummy situation last week, when you, in the view of some people, failed to adequately support anti-abortion legislation. Heck, even the President was Tweeting about it. Care to clear that up before we move on?”

Richardson: This is personal to me, I have a young nephew… Luke. Less than a year old and he just had surgery for the kind of condition that the bill allowed abortion to be justifaction for an abortion. Even more personal I had glasses growing up before I had corrective surgery… That was also justification to abort a child under this bill.

I am pro life, I have been pro life for my entire career. And I didn’t have to run for President to know that abortion was wrong.

MS: “Governor, your nephew could be aborted today, under the current Roe v. Wade situation for his condition. Are you saying that we can’t restrict any abortion unless its a ban on all abortion?”

Richardson: I will take ANY progress over none but think about this bill… You could say ‘my child needs glasses abortion it’, how many kids need glasses? The disabilities in this bill are near universal, I don’t think it would stop a single abortion given how easy it would be to manipulate this loophole. And the Rhetorically you are saying that in this country aborting someone for a disability is okay.

On top of that we need to ask the question ‘why include this in the first place’, I asked this on twitter and never got an answer. Why in God’s name include this exception? Exceptions for rape and incest are common to include in bills, but this adds on and exception literally no one asked for. It wasn’t fought for as a compromise or anything like that, no reason was ever given. It was just tacked on. I don’t want to assign motives but the question needs to be answered. If it was a mistake then why not just amend the bill?”

MS: “So you are saying the issue lies with Senator Anderson, then?

You are construing him, by all measures a great patriot, as either incompetent or holding ulterior motives.”

Richardson: “I wasn’t involved in the drafting of the bill… Anderson hasn’t answered my question about it… I don’t have enough information on why this happened but neither do that American people.

As Governor, I passed what was at the time some of the toughest abortion restrictions there were. I’m not in a red state, i’m in a purple state and the state legislature was divided… to get it done I had to compromise but I did it because it improved the status quo. I do not understand why allowing this massive loophole and rhetorically saying abortion for minor disabilities is okay…. I don’t see how that’s a compromise to move it forward. Literally no one is defending it, left or right.”

MS: “Glad to hear it. You’ve definitely been a conservative force in North Carolina. Moving on from abortion, I was upset to see that you were the only candidate at the NRA National Meeting. I went, and as my listeners know, I searched high and low and didn’t see any other Republican candidates. What’s up with that?”

Richardson: “To borrow a phrase from Governor Velez I was ‘the designated representative of the field’... Gun rights are under assault around the country, and I understand it to an extent we see an endless cycle of violence, some truly horrific acts by truly evil people. Americans are doers, when we have a crisis we want to act, but sometimes the way we act is misguided or misplaced.

If someone is proposing an assault weapons ban because it will curb violence they are lying to you. Long guns account for such a minimal amount of death in this country, twice as many are killed every year with fists and feet. If they want to ban long guns they are either misled or just don’t like guns. It’s disgusting to see the understandable horror and outrage we feel over events like Sandy Hook exploited by the Left.”

MS: “I’m assuming then, that you intend to nominate conservative judges to the federal courts and, as vacancies will likely occur, the Supreme Court to protect Second Amendment rights. Governor, would you be in favor of these conservative justices potentially overturning Roe v. Wade or Obergefell v. Hodges? To undo un-constitutional so-called ‘judicial legislation’ by an activist judiciary.”

Richardson: “I have a long history of consulting with experts on court nominations. I am very good friends with the Federalist Society and have a great relationship with them. I fully plan on consulting with them and groups like them when making decisions on the courts, appointing Judges who are Constitutional Originalists, not activists. People who respect the law and would not legislate from the bench.

I think President Wolf picked two incredible supreme court justices and an army of lower court judges that will protect our Constitution for decades to come. When we look back on his Presidency I think that it will be arguably his greatest contribution. It’s too early for me to have a concrete list of potential justice but they would include people like (Amy Coney Barrett) of Indiana, (Keith Blackwell) of Georgia, (Tom Hardiman) of Pennsylvania, and (Joan Larsen) of Michigan.”

MS: “That’s a great shortlist, Governor, it really is, but you didn’t answer my question. If you appointed any of these individuals, and a solid conservative bench had the opportunity to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges or Roe v. Wade, would you support it as President?”

Richardson: “It’s been considered long practice for potential justices NOT to answer questions about specific cases. I would suspect though that anyone I nominated would have negative opinions of Casey and Roe, with Obergefell v. Hodges it was decided such a relatively short time ago that most judges and legal experts I have spoken to say that overturning it wouldn’t be the right route. However they would certainly respect religious freedom and cases such as Masterpiece Cakeshop.”

MS: “Interesting response, I’ve heard similar things from the President’s appointees. Governor, judicial precedent aside, do you believe that if Roe v. Wade and Obergefell v. Hodges could be overturned that they should be? Many conservatives see both decisions not only as over-reaches, but as going against the Christian principles on which this country was founded.”

Richardson: “My answer is a bit long but bear with me.

Our country was founded on Judeo-Christian values, values of western civilization and the enlightenment. We are also founded on a respect for the values of religious freedom, and with significant respect for the ability of a Government to impose on its citizens. We are and have always been a predominantly Christian nation, but never and exclusively Christian nation. The earliest colonists on the shores of the continent were fleeing the religious wars tearing apart Europe and so came here acknowledging the need for pluralism. To that end while the Declaration of Independence directly invokes our Creator as the source of our right, the Constitution makes no mention.

Washington himself in his farewell address warned us that while we need faith to preserve civic virtues, we also need to make sure we never let religion make us fall into warring tribes. Christian practice and heritage are the glue that holds our nation together… even today. But its effect is cultural more than civic.

Obergefell cut short an ongoing and necessary public debate about the nature of marriage. Relegating a complex social policy with a judicially mandated approach instead of it going through debate, persuasion, and compromise. The Court should just be calling balls and strikes, not ending debate over morality.

We live in a democracy and regardless of our disagreements we need to respect the law. I look at gay marriage from a libertarian perspective, I believe marriage is between a man and a woman but I don’t feel I have a right to enforce that belief on others. If you want greater legal protections that’s fine, just respect those who believe marriage is a sacrament and want to safeguard religious liberty.

It’s in the Constitution now, my focus is on protecting religious liberty. Proponents of same sex marriage had for years dismissed the concerns surrounding legaliziton eclipsing religoous freedom as paranoid. But now they seek to force people to make cakes for them, its madness.

Roe v. Wade, it has become increasingly clear, was wrongly decided and the consequences of it are horrifying and not at all what the plaintiffs or the judges intended. It needs to be revisited, if I was a judge on the case I would do all I could to strike it down.

I hope I have been clear on the subject.”

MS: “You’ve been clear on Roe v. Wade, as you said you would do all you could to strike it down. But what I gather from your comments on Obergefell is that you would not change that decision. Interesting. And what are your thoughts on the Affordable Care Act?”

Richardson: “I’d leave Obergefell to the states but it is not at all a priority for me.

The ACA wasn’t affordable… simple as that. It’s a piece of legislation that shouldn’t have passed. But that doesn’t mean the status quo beforehand was ideal.

I have proposed dozens of reforms based on consumer centered free market principles like those I implemented as governor when crafting Carolina Choice Care. Free Market principles of competition and the free exchange of ideas provide the best healthcare possible to the most people at the lowest cost.

First step is to make it easier for states to craft their own system, from there we start deregulating and addressing the root causes of why healthcare is so expensive. You don’t do that through a big top down government solution, one size fits no one. This includes steps such as loosening restrictions on nurse practitioners and telemedicine, on generics and buying over state lines.

I have also become increasingly concerned about our reliance on China when it comes to pharmaceuticals but that’s another problem.”

MS: “Will a repeal of the ACA be a priority for your prospective presidency?”

Richardson: “Day one priority, I plan on hitting the ground running on that. I don’t need to tell you how complicated healthcare policy is but I want a massive healthcare reform package ready to go as soon as congress starts.”

MS: “What would that reform package include?”

Richardson: “We as a party cannot deny the necessity of Healthcare reform, the ACA is a travesty but the issue it addressed, the need for more healthcare, better healthcare was and is a real need. 71% of Americans say healthcare is in crisis. The solution however is not more government control.

The government should not be picking winners and losers in healthcare. We need individuals and patients in the driver seat. In every industry where companies compete choices and innovation increase, prices and barriers to access come down. Healthcare needs a similar approach, that will not happen immediately but even small steps can have huge impacts. Our objectives must be, Patient-centered, consumer driven reform, based on choice that spurs innovation in care.

Lets let consumers pick from a wide array of options, direct primary care, short term plans, catastrophic coverage, or cadillac coverage. Everyone getting government dollars for healthcare gets to choose how to use those dollars instead of a government bureaucrat. We do this through vouchers and savings accounts. The ACA has a structure that gave insurance companies control over subsidies which allowed them to raise prices. Giving the money directly to consumers will allow them to pick the quality private coverage of their choice.

The ACA has federal spending increases dollar for dollar with premium hikes and unlimited Medicaid spending. The path forward needs to do away with regulation dictating the products consumers can buy, and we need to ensure that insurers do not charge unfairly high premiums to individuals by throwing them all into a single risk pool. Do this plus we increase access to things like telemedicine, nurse practitioners and generics.

We also need to devolve things more to the states so its easier to pass legislation like Carolina Choice Care. I'm working with members of the Republican Study Committee on a plan currently that would protect vulnerable Americans – including those with pre-existing conditions, chronic illness, and serious health issues – while reducing premiums, deductibles, and overall health care costs."

MS: “Sounds good to me, sounds good to me. One last topic, because I know our listeners are interested- what is your strategy for winning the primary? And once you’ve won, what’s the plan for beating the Democrat party? Which Democrat is the weakest? It’s a lot, but you don’t seem to have a problem with long-winded replies.”

Richardson: *laughs* “Well I don’t want to reveal all my strategies but needless to say I focus on making human connections with people that transcend the political. People don’t feel like they are listened to nowadays and I want to do that… and as I have been doing that I have heard again and again that they want to have a president to unite the country. Partisanship is so high right now… I want to show I can help transcend that, part of that is being above the fray.

When it comes to the general the biggest threat would be someone who is pragmatic, and moderate that can divorce themselves from the progressive lunacy of previous years and can speak to the working class voters Wolf won in 16. The weakest would be a limousine liberal in the Progressive cult.

I’m going to show that I have a real record of success, more than anyone else in the field. North Carolina has turned around more than any other state since the recession, that’s thanks in part to our commitment to conservative values and ideas. Real solutions based around choice and free market principles. As Governor I passed landmark healthcare legislation, passed abortion restrictions, went from a budget deficit to one of the largest surpluses in the country, passed 4 billion in tax relief and made massive strides in deregulation. And the fruits of our labor are 30% lower premiums, an exploding labor market, raising wages, more businesses being created. North Carolina has grown by leaps and bounds, in all the areas Wolf made our country great again I have done the same to my state. I have proven my ability to continue that legacy.”

MS: “Well, I wish you the best of luck governor, I know a lot of my listeners are rooting for you. We will bring you back on the show soon.”

The host and guest both fade out as the rock music starts again, before the show moves to a commercial break.

MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE
MAY 2ST, 2019
ARNOLD WOLF JR.

The Wolf Jr. campaign was off to a fast start. They had already raised a ton of money and were on their way to producing their first early ad. For now, the campaign was swinging by a crucial early state. Being next to his home state, Wolf Jr. was pretty familiar with New Hampshire, which would hopefully improve his standing in the primary. He would make his first major stop in the state in Manchester, a big city that he could easily draw a crowd in. The venue was packed full of his most loyal supporters all chanting his name. He went about his usual charade of waving with a grin on his face. He took to the podium and got right to it, taking in the amount of people in front of him.

"Hello, Manchester! You are all here today because you know what the Democrats have tried to do to this country. The Democrats care more about illegal immigrants than they do about you! They don't care about the people murdered by these people who should've never been in this country in the first place! They don't care about all the Americans who lost their jobs only to be replaced by cheap illegals. We can only thank God that President Wolf is standing up for the American worker and deporting these criminals back to where they came from.

One of my first priorities in office will be to complete the great beautiful border wall started by my father. We are going to use that to make sure that you and your families are safe from criminal aliens running around the streets. We are going to be very strict with who we allow in, let me tell you. Only the finest people should be allowed to be citizens of our great country. We must end this system where we have poor migrants come into the country just to leech off of welfare benefits. We need people who will work! We need people who are bright and capable! No more will there be people entering our great country to take away our benefits from Americans who need it under my administration.

We need to cap the number of people becoming citizens in our country. The left will tell you that's racist, but it's not racist when it's true. We simply can't handle having so many people we can't take care of getting into the United States. Only a few of the best prospective immigrants should have a right to become citizens. Now, what should the requirements be? Let's start by making sure they can speak English. That's a common-sense suggestion to make sure the people we're getting into our borders are people who are supportive of our national identity. It is not a racist policy, rather it's a national unity policy. We must have a common identity as Americans in order for this country to not be torn to shreds, and that starts with a common language.

Democrats are trying desperately to protect illegal immigrants from deportation. They are creating sanctuary cities to violate federal law and stop us from enforcing our immigration laws. Any state or city that tries to stop our immigration officers from enforcing the law is practically committing a crime! We are going to take away funding to these so-called sanctuaries until they stop hiding illegal aliens from law enforcement. I mean, this is what we expect gangs to do, right? We'd expect the mob to be the ones protecting criminals, not state and local governments!

This is not because we want to keep people out of this nation. We are doing this because we are trying to protect Americans. There are human traffickers every day sneaking into our open borders to commit their horrible illegal acts. I want to ask the Democrats right now why they won't take the necessary actions to stop human traffickers from entering our country. Why do they say they support human rights when they allow groups that make people suffer brutally to freely enter our borders? Why do they say they care for women when they allow groups who kidnap women and sell them off as slaves? The hypocrisy of the left is absolutely appalling. If they won't take action to protect the women and the vulnerable of the world of such a cruel fate, we will!

While the Democrats remain complacent, we will end these disgusting practices going on along our southern border. We will do everything we can to save American lives. It could be your daughter at risk because Democrats allow these people into America. I will make sure that your daughter is safe. We are going to expose the lies of the left in 2020, and we will keep America great! Thank you all!"
