There’s a template, I believe it’s on the first page of the Congress forum, use that template and post in the Congress thread any time, there’s no need to interrupt ongoing debate to do so either just post it and it goes in the docket

Your character would have to be a member of Congress or find a congressperson to do it for them

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Xath

Character Name: Maribelle Steward

Character Gender: Female

Character Age: 65

Character Height: 6'4''

Character Weight: 225

Character Position/Role/Job: Retired Gospel, Jazz, and Blues Singer

Character Appearance: Image

Character State of Origin: Louisiana

Character State of Residence: Mississippi

Character Party Affiliation: Democrat (1975 - Present)

Main Strengths: Well-known singer, Popular in Mississippi

Main Weaknesses: Never held public office, Can be characterized as an out-of-touch celebrity, No formal education besides high school degree, No political or campaign infrastructure, Democrat in a deep red state, Little fundraising ability

Biography:

Maribelle Steward was born to working-class parents in Louisiana in 1957, specifically in New Orleans, though this was short-lived. Soon, the family moved to Mississippi and began to work in Oxford where her father and mother became a janitor and a cleaning-lady respectively. She remained entrenched in this reality for quite a while, with her parents having three more children after her. Maribelle had one older brother but once he reached high school age, he dropped out and began to work alongside their father as a janitor. From an early age, Maribelle had begun to pick up an ability to sing and often practiced it at school with her choir. Her teacher would often give her preference and extra help, seeing Maribelle’s obvious talent.

As she became older and reached high school, her parents told her that she could finish school but would need to take up a part time job at the very least. Wanting to graduate (the first in her family), she took a job as a dishwasher at a local restaurant and remembered it as some of the few moments she would see what college was like. But she did not consider it a possibility given the racial atmosphere at the time and cost, thus would continue living with her family until her mid-twenties. At this point, Maribelle chose to move with her aunt to Atlanta, joining her as a cleaning lady and housekeeper there. It would be at one of these many cleaning jobs that she began to sing and hum, generating the admiration of the homeowners who soon encouraged her to sing for them at parties. It would be at one of these events that would launch her career, as a member of the New York Times, specifically Frank Rich, heard her rendition of Ella Fitzgerald’s hit “Mack the Knife '' where Maribelle like Fitzgerald improvised some of the lyrics.

Choosing to talk to her, Rich would prove instrumental in helping Maribelle gain new audiences by playing clubs and events across Atlanta, before making note of her to some artists and record labels. Thus Maribelle would very quickly go from unknown to an increasingly well-known jazz, blues, and gospel artist across the South. Her fame would fuel her increasing wealth, which she contributed in large amounts to her family and the Oxford community, including her white music teacher. She would go on to perform across the South and gain notoriety, especially after a performance at Ole’ Miss that helped grow her career.

Her career would span thirty years where she would travel across the United States and a brief tour in Europe, though she was recognized for always returning to Mississippi and her hometown. She also used her platform to support civil rights legislation and education, often taking time to comment on these issues whenever interviewed. While surely not one of the greats of Jazz or Gospel, she has had some major performances including many religious congregations. In many ways, she was called as one of the few artists who used her music to unite crowds.

Choosing to retire in 2000, she would not make major performances outside of certain events, including a fundraiser in Mississippi and Lousiana for 9/11 and subsequently across the South in 2005 for relief for Katrina victims. She maintained many connections in the music world and has been well-known in helping support movies and other films being made across the South, saying once that Mississippi was ready to host the next Grammys. She also worked with several country artists to organize relief for many children of laid-off workers in 2007 through 2008, though this did coincide with her entrance into politics. Maribelle would also continue commenting on politics, supporting the President and numerous officials, including then-Governor (not-Bryant), meeting him at a number of performances she continued to hold in the state.

Her aid and fundraising would dwindle by 2010 given her intent to exit public life, though she remained active in some circles. She would go on to perform at President (not-Obama)'s inaugural ball in 2012 as well as continuing her work of helping hurricane victims with partnerships with other artists. Maribelle faced widespread praise for her actions and continued to give commentary on major issues, including defending the Affordable Care Act at Republican attempts to repeal as well as supporting certain provisions to become law outside of the ACA. Though later on, she has come out in support of Medicaid expansion to help cover more people in Mississippi, though only mentioning this in a few interviews. She also remained a staunch supporter of pro-life stances though has made clear her belief that they should be exceptions for threats to the mother's life.

Recently, some Democratic elements in the Mississippi state party have encouraged her to seek the nomination for Governor, citing her long-held conservative social views as being essential to courting voters. This has only increased after a hypothetical poll by a Jackson paper showing her as a competitive candidate, albeit the polling was largely informal. Nonetheless, elements of the party even at the national level believe given Wolf's condition fracturing the GOP and the potential strength Maribelle has as both an outsider and social conservative, they may be enough to push her to a victory as a Democrat in a deep red state.

Other Info: Maribelle has often been called the Belle of Mississippi, Endorsed (Not-Obama) in 2008 and 2012

Do you think this would add anything significant to the race in any way? Basically, he’s going to be from a MS GOP elite family, a Johns Hopkins-educated Doctor, who entered politics to push single-payer while actually being conservative in many other issues.

My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! I want one in an unstable country, where shit would go down. Riots, violence, threats of walkouts, extremism, and soon enough parties working outside the law, perhaps even collapsing into civil war.

More like the TV show Years and Years, if you've heard of it or seen it? It was (and still is) on the BBC, and I think it did a bit on HBO as well.
