Now that I think about it, is the idea of a political insider (like deep state level insider) making an independent run really realistic? His main plan is to subvert both political parties and come out on top. He has nothing to lose but a few tens of millions by doing this, and it earns him publicity and a very, very small chance at gaining a whole lot - and I mean whole lot - of power. And a slightly higher chance of getting massive leverage over both parties and make them scramble to get him.

Of course, him winning in gubernatorial is probably only 5%, him winning presidential is 2% and him causing an electoral college deadlock is about 3%. He probably won't influence much, but here goes nothing...

Biography: Born as the son of Alexander Rockefeller and Mary Rockefeller (nee Elliot), James Rockefeller was born to a prestigious yet declining in wealth family name, with his father being only worth $100 million by the time he was born, having spent much of his inheritance on alcohol and gambling. James, even as a young child, felt disgusted by this. Even as a young boy, he was conscientious, detail-oriented and abstained from alcohol for the entirety of his life.

His uncle, however, was the head of a medium-sized corporation in Kentucky known as Commonwealth Industries, which he sought to inherit due to his uncle's lack of children. He worked hard both to build his relationship with his uncle and to achieve academically. He received his Harvard admission with happiness, opting to take a business degree, pursuing it with a master's. He took to his education with dedication, graduating with honours.

He then took a seat at the board of his uncle's company, lined up to be CEO as soon as his uncle retired, which was to be in a few years. His uncle retired in 1977, with him taking charge of the company. He began a policy of rapid expansion, taking large yet calculated risks, build more and more factories, focusing on expensive goods such as plastics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, beginning to expand into Kentucky and into other large manufacturing areas, such as the Rhine in Germany.

He also began outsourcing, building large steel factories in India. There was a slight scandal coming from this, with Rockefeller allegedly bribing local officials to get them to ignore the lack of safety in the factory. However, the scandal, despite being public, had very little coverage in the United States. Rockefeller, in order to reduce costs, vertically integrated several oil companies through intentionally tanking their stocks, building large oilfields to feed the continued production of plastic.

In 1989, Rockefeller decided to not only expand oil operations, particularly in Saudi Arabia and in Venezuela, where he allegedly helped pay for the incoming President's vacation in the Bahamas, but also move almost all plastic operations to China. He was involved in the decommunisation of China, making friends in both the lower and upper echelons of Chinese government, causing the more schizophrenic of the far-right to call him a Chinese spy and an operative working for the Chinese government.

This is what really put him in politics, as his company went on a large PR push against the claims, gaining him PR all across the political spectrum. He went on TV and famously declared "Communism in China shall end as it has in red Russia. The Cold War is over. As I said before, we must end the Sinophobia that has penetrated our national politics, and get ready for the new world order."

The controversy put American Manufacturing and Oil in the spotlight for a long time, with Rockefeller utilising the PR to get into politics, riding off of the anti-tax mood the country was in. He had become elected as Mayor of Louisville, with support from some local Republicans and moderate Democrats. As Mayor, he worked on ensuring that they were large surpluses by cutting government fat and bureaucracy, along with property tax cuts and increase subsidies for small businesses, which boosted the local economy significantly, making headlines, even in major national newspapers.

He also did large trial runs on UBI, helping cement it nationally and gaining some headlines such as "The 3rd Millennium's Mayor - Mayor Rockefeller of Louisville, Kentucky Introduces Radical New Welfare Scheme", allowing him to gain more recognition nationally, increase his favourables and get several opportunities for TV and radio interviews.

He also did several documentary parts, and began to work within Washington to increase his political connections, along with outside to build his business connections, ready for a gubernatorial and eventually presidential run in the future...Where he then received a phone call from a man named Ross Perot. He got an offer for Secretary of Commerce due to all the positive coverage and his political skills along with his outsider-ness, which he accepted, campaigning energetically for Perot. He originally opposed him dropping out, but still came back for round number 2, winning 12% of the vote for VP as a third party.

In the time between 1992 and 1996, he continued to build his connections, along with further increasing operations in Texas, along with buying distressed assets in several small Midwestern manufacturing connections, and, in order to increase his national profile, he set up the Kentucky Rockefeller Foundation in 1994, spending about $50 million of his own money over the 2-year period, to raise donations, both large and small, to effectively promote him and wash away the corruption of American Manufacturing and Oil, or AmerOil as it was known for short. His company, after all, had done some shady things, in China, India and Venezuela, so he invested in the best PR there was. He still holds an honorary seat at the foundation, and can still command it, but he isn't responsible for its daily functioning.

He then volunteered to be Perot's VP again, winning a decent amount of votes. After the election, however, he was approached with an offer to become Chairman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, which he accepted, possibly due to his close relationship with the previous chairman and his connections on the hill, along with a bit of money from his foundation. His foundation continued philanthropic efforts without him, as he moved to manage whatever possible fallout this would have with some more PR money.

He used his status in the think tank to gain something even more important: publicity. He went on constant TV interviews, acting as a voice of reason and integrity. He always kept an image of impartiality, even if secretly pushing an agenda. He always talked calmly and with eloquence. This made him come off condescending at certain times, but he overcame that. Those times, of course, were relatively quiet, except for the occasional interview where he kept calm as some demagogue came at him by bringing up the same 3 points about his business.

That was, until 2008. Ol' President Clifford had approached him, and asked him for a favour. At that point he was already a strong lobbyist on the Hill, and held sway in both parties. He had not accepted Clifford's offer of "a favour" by endorsing his wife. He had instead set up an entirely new operation, known as the New Centre, first only seen as a pro-Clifford front and PAC, but later became a serious political force. Whilst he did not succeed in his endeavors, he still was able to gain influence within the moderate wing, helping him do this well. This earned him some bad blood with Republicans, but he was able to overcome it with his McCain endorsement in 2008, despite the fact he later endorsed Obama in 2012 as he moderated himself and Rockefeller disagreed with the Tea Party, as he saw them as far too radical for his liking, and far too establishmentarian.

Outside of the elections, however, Rockefeller began to foster the New Center, using his funds and the funds of many other centrist donors to set up HQs and build up a large footsoldier network, along with having lots of data and resources in their hands. He also made particular strides in online advertising, along with having data at his feet. He also continued to entrench himself in connections, but also made several public appearances, in conservative working-class rural communities and in liberal upper-class metropolitan ones, in order to effectively cleanse himself of the elitist shell. He also did issue ads between elections, helping sway the American people more towards the centre.

Despite his insider status, he had become very much acquainted with the world outside of Washington. He endorse Diane Clifford (again) in 2016, with his campaigning ready to rush against Arnold Wolf. He expanded HQs, threw in several millions from his own pocket, ready for a war. Whilst many accused him of being a closet Democrat, he has also been noted for some of his more right-wing stances (see other), and his endorsement of [not-Kasich] for the Republican followers of his organisation. He, however, lost the war, and was quite frankly surprised by the defeat.

He continued building up the "Anti-Wolf Resistance", helping moderate Republicans and Democrats alike organise against Wolf, meeting with moderate Republicans and Democrats between 2016 and 2019, building a silent coalition of people. He originally intended on running in the Democratic nomination, but he saw the rise of Westra and Murphy and saw that as too risky. He instead went for an independent 2020 run, "leaking" it to the papers, slowly building up hype and a draft, along with increasing morale for the campaign ahead.

He saw an opportunity ahead in the Kentucky special election, however, and he was ready to take it.
