Didn't California use to be a red state, even after the party switch? I mean, it's reasonable if you had the right type of Republican.

The district in which Sillicon Valley is located in is also represented by a Democrat and is located near San Francisco.

Yeah, but it (the 18th) is more Republican than the state as a whole. Boxer only won by about 4 points there.

Why is that my first character in these RPs always ends up a complete and utter mess? And I don't mean Taylor for the previous RP, I meant that Prog from Harlem.

Key word: it used to be.

In today's day of partisanship, it is extremely improbable for such a scenario to be remotely feasible.

Formerly. In the 1990s the CAGOP committed political suicide and has never recovered except for the Governator, and even then he was basically a moderate democrat.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: The Democratic Marxists
Character Name: Abigail "Abby" Winthrop
Character Gender: F
Character Age: 48
Character Height: 5 ft 8'
Character Weight: 132 lbs
Character Position/Role/Job: Junior Senator from Massachusetts (2016 - )
Appearance:
Character State of Origin: Pennsylvania
Character State of Residence: Washington DC and Massachusetts
Character Party Affiliation: Independent, Democratic Caucuser
Main Strengths: Policy wonk, intelligent, articulate, idealistic yet pragmatic, organized
Main Weaknesses: Bad at networking, not an inspiring orator, doesn't have much experience in politics

Biography: Abby Winthrop was born to a solidly middle class family in Reading, Pennsylvania. Although her father was a truck driver and remained so for most of his life, her mother was the main breadwinner in her family, being a public school teacher. Winthrop attended public school in Reading, where she became used to the high level of poverty in her city. In fact, according to the national census, Reading had the highest share of American citizens living in poverty in the entire country. Winthrop still expresses how lucky she felt to have access to good teachers like her mother, who she credits for getting her ahead in life, more so than her school. Her father had a heart condition, and Winthrop often recounts how the family sometimes used to struggle to pay for his medicine.

Winthrop was taught advanced learning material at home by her mother, and thus she was an excellent student. She graduated at the top of her class and she got into Boston University. However, due to her parent's economic condition, she took out quite a large student loan. Winthrop majored at BU in Economics. She wasn't a politically active student; she didn't even register with a political party. But, while at college, Winthrop started to understand certain issues facing Americans. She came to realize while doing various research projects in class how broken the US economic system was. After being shocked by the extent of income inequality in America, Winthrop applied to Harvard Law School hoping to become a labor lawyer, and got in. After completing law school and joining the bar, Winthrop decided to specialize in labor law; she wanted to help workers and unions prosecute cases against corporations who were abusing their power. She caught the eye of a progressive Congressman, who brought her to Capitol Hill to partake in a questioning of the CEO of a major retail corporation. Winthrop's tough and specific questioning went viral, which gained her some recognition.

She soon realized that she was really struggling to pay off her student loans, since labor lawyers are not paid much. She decided to quit law and become an economist instead, which turned out to be a terrible decision in terms of salary but a great decision for her personal knowledge. She was employed as an adjunct economics professor at Amherst College. She was given a grant at Amherst to do research on two topics: student loans and housing. Winthrop did pathbreaking work on both. Her detailed paper on tuition deferral programs in colleges to solve the student loan crisis became a popular idea amongst leftists and liberals alike, and her really detailed idea for a Universal Housing Voucher gained steam. She became a regular op-ed columnist for the New York Times, and became one of the country's most visible economists as well as a progressive icon, even though she was apolitical. Winthrop was invited to several forums, universities, etc., which helped her make more money and finally pay off her own loans.

As the elderly Democratic senator for Massachusetts retired, several "Draft Winthrop" organizations sprang up, and she agreed run for the office to bring "Policy for People over Profits" to the Senate. She did not, however, have it easy. A party-backed neoliberal Congressman was also in the race, and the Massachusetts Democratic Party did not want an outsider in the Senate. It's not that Winthrop was anti-establishment as such, she was just not experienced. But the people of Massachusetts took a liking to her, and she did win after a bruising primary where she had to show her true progressive colors. However, due to the limited support she received from the state Democratic Party early on, she turned down the nomination and ran as an independent. Because she was leading so heavily in general election polls, the state party decided to back her in the general, although her future elections are not safe. She went on to handily win the Massachusetts general election, thus being elected as the Junior Senator for Massachusetts.

Winthrop's time in the Senate has been complicated. While her caucus appreciates her wonkish nature, she has been heavily disliked for her (restrained but consistent) criticism of the two party system. Despite being a self-described social democrat, her colleagues have referred to her as a "socialist" and she has not denied the label. She has also attracted controversy for her supposed atheism, which she had not expressed publicly until resurfaced essays have released on the web. Past essays she has written that have been critical of all religion have been called into question by Democrats and Republicans, as she has heavily criticized both Christianity and Islam.

Winthrop has made student loans and housing the key issues of her focus during her current tenure in the Senate. She has also been a big advocate for trust-busting legislation; she has been the only Senator to advocate for the unique idea of breaking up the media companies: NewsCorp, Spectrum, and NBC. She has expressed support for all major progressive ideas, including Medicare for All, free college, and a Green New Deal.

Other Info: Abby Winthrop is married to a children's author and has two children.

"In America we like to talk about freedom. But you know what? There is no freedom without economic freedom. The freedom to not be pigeonholed into paying for expensive healthcare. 1. I've made it clearer that the state party backed her because she was the heavy favorite in polling and she was caucusing with them. However, her future elections aren't safe.

2. I imagined that open atheism wouldn't be a problem in Massachusetts, but I've changed it so that she was a closet atheist until her old writings resurfaced, so it's more of a scandal.

3. Whoops. Changed it.

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Agarntrop
Character Name: Barry Anderson
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 63 (dob 31 August 1956)
Character Height: 5' 6''
Character Weight: 182 lbs
Character Position/Role/Job: Columbia Municipal Legislature Member (1984-1990), Missouri State Senator (1990-2002), United States Senator from Missouri (2002-).
Appearance:
Image

Character State of Origin: Missouri
Character State of Residence: Missouri
Character Party Affiliation: Republican
Main Strengths: Determined, Resolute, no-nonsense, a good tactician.
Main Weaknesses: Old, Accusations of Racism and Bigotry, not great at speeches, frequently embarrasses himself.
Biography: Anderson was born on 31 August 1956 in his white lower class family home in Columbia, Missouri. He was the 7th of 8 children and was generally neglected by his parents. However, he was bright and he attended school until age 18 and served in the US army from 1974-1976, although he notably could not afford to attend university. Anderson also made his 1st prominent political move when in 1980 he wrote a conservative news article in the 'Opinions' section of The Columbia Tribune in which he criticised abortion, calling it "aggravated homicide" and arguing for life imprisonment and even a potential death sentence for repeat offenders to be enforced as a punishment for it.

He first rose to a political position when in 1984 he became a member of the municipal legislature of the city of Columbia, and later became a state senator in 1990, where he pushed for strong social conservative policies and was criticised by Democrats of being 'racist' and 'backwards'. He put forward laws banning abortion, increasing penalties for homosexuality and repealing anti-discrimination laws.

He was a Republican nominee for a United States senator from Missouri in 2002, despite a strongly fought primaries compared to the relatively easy actual election win - in which he received 56% of the vote - with an anti-terrorism, anti-Islam and pro-Iraq war campaign, and managed to gain that position he has held ever since. He was a staunch supporter of (not George Bush) and (not the War on Terror), and his focus generally shifted from anti-abortion to anti-Islam. He has always been a backbencher (the fact he has never been on the front benches many put down to his extreme views), though he has kept in the party line the majority of the time but regularly supports bills proposed by right-wing extremists that don't have the support of the mainstream Republican Party. He was re-elected in 2008 and received a new, vocal Evangelical Paleoconservative support base. He was one of the founding members of the (not-Tea Party Caucus) in 2009, and also received huge support from the pro-Israel lobby. He was an opponent of (not-Obama), and denounced (not-Obamacare). He was re-elected a third time in 2014, by an increased majority. He is now more prominent than ever being a vocal supporter of President Wolf, although pollsters have predicted he could lose his seat in the Senate in 2020.

He married his one and only wife, Denise, in 1978. His father died in 1997, aged 71, and his mother in 2014, aged 85. He does not have any children.

Other Info: Quotes -

"Islam isn't a religion, it's a cult."

"President Wolf is the leader America needs."

Would the 45th be allowed? It is currently Democrat, but it does swing Republican on the CPVI.

Would the 45th be allowed? It is currently Democrat, but it does swing Republican on the CPVI.

Yes, if you can make it work in a Democratic Wave year. He'd have to defeat Not-Katie-Porter

Will the whole thing about his great-grandfather's brother and storming out still be allowed? It's kind of his pinnacle moment. I understand the rest about California Technologies, and I'll fix the internet statement and his net worth, but will his testimony in the House of Representatives still be allowed?

Character Information Sheet

NS Nation Name: Puertollano
Character Name: Levi Murphy
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 55
Character Height: 180cm
Character Weight: 72kg
Character Position/Role/Job: Senator for Minnesota (2014-current), President of AFL-CIO Minnesota (2005-2013), President of Amalgamated Transportation Union Local 1005 (2002-2005).
Appearance: Image
Character State of Origin: Montana
Character State of Residence: Minnesota
Character Party Affiliation: Democratic
Main Strengths: Strong union connections, energetic campaigner.
Main Weaknesses: Domineering/self-centered, poor family relationship.
Biography: Levi was born in Great Falls (Montana) to his mother Hetty Murphy and his father John Murphy in 1964. He was one of four children in a working class family. Levi and his siblings attended the public school in Great Falls, but he did not spend the entirety of his education in Montana. At age 17, their family moved to Minneapolis after their mother, Hetty, was offered a position as a principal at a school there. Hetty and her extended family lived in Minnesota already, so the family decided to permanently stay in Minnesota, rather than move back to Montana when her position expired. Levi's father, John, was a carpenter by trade, but also a skilled guitarist. His work as a carpenter and busking on the side meant the family could afford to give their children a good higher education. Levi went to Minnesota State University in Mankato, where he lived in a flat with friends while having a part-time job. There he studied urban planning, as he also studied public policy on the side. After finishing his course, by the time he was 22, he moved back to Minneapolis where he got a job in local council. From 1986 to 1989, Levi worked as a surveyor but quickly grew tired of that life.

In 1989, Levi moved to St Paul after he was offered work as a bus driver. There was a critical shortage of bus drivers in the city and Levi was rewarded with good pay. There he came strongly involved in his union, the Amalgamated Transportation Union. He moved through the union ranks as a diligent and activist member. During this time, Levi made many connections with unionists and others in St Paul. It was at this period of time when Levi met his wife, who was a bartender at a popular restaurant in St Paul. They began going out together and fell in love. In 2000, many in the local ATU branch were outraged when the union accepted a meager pay raise from the Metropolitan Council. This brought about great dissatisfaction with the union leadership at the time, as they accused the pay raise as not even able to keep up with rising inflation. In a concerted campaign, Levi ran for President of the ATU 1005 branch. His strong personal connections with the members of his branch and good oratory skills meant his campaign was successful and in 2002 Levi Murphy was elected President. There, Levi promised to pursue an "activist union", rather than a "roll-over union". A year later, in 2003, Levi married his wife, Penny, at a service in Minneapolis. Levi's family attended.

Events came to ahead in 2004, when the Republican administration in Minnesota began to approach the private sector about the privatization of transportation in the state. Although it was not a concrete step, it was a step in a direction that Levi did not appreciate. Ahead of this planned meeting, Levi, as President of the ATU Branch, organised protests that quickly caught on among other unionists and activist alike against the proposal. This is when Levi gained public attention, after a general strike was announced in response to the privatization attempts, mainly spearheaded by the "rising star" in the Minnesota labor movement. Initially, the strike was brushed off by the Republican Governor who accused them obstructing progress in the state and by causing a nuisance. However, because of a strong public relations team backing the protest and strike movement, the popular support was behind the movement against the privatization. During this period, Levi was frequently on local television, flouting his oratory skills and building is public image as someone who stands up to authority. Eventually, under public pressure, the meeting with the private sector was scrapped and it was hailed as a major victory for the unions, despite their dwindling membership nationwide.

At this time, Levi's wife, Penny, grew distant from him. She believed he spent too much time on work and rarely came home to see her during those times. She also frequently burst into argument with him over this matters, but he regularly dismissed her grievances. Penny believed it was best for their child and her to leave the family, thus she filed for divorce. Penny got custody of their child. Levi was disturbed by this revelation, but didn't let it define his career ambitions. Elections for President of the AFL-CIO in Minnesota were beginning to open for candidates and buoyed by his overconfidence and growing popularity among trade unionists because of his efforts, he won the election in 2005. As President of AFL-CIO Minnesota, he was particularly involved in the campaign-side of unionism. He appointed long-time friends to the positions of campaign coordinator and an ally in the position of membership secretary. This ally was Chloe Perkins, an associate he met during the strike. However, they began to see each other as more than that, and began to go out on dates (although outside of the public eye). Levi expanded his public image as an advocate for "working people", attending marches, protests and advising state Democratic politicians. During his final years as President, Levi officially joined the Democratic Party as a member. He had always, however, voted Democrat anyway.

By 2013, Levi and Chloe felt as though they should officiate it with a wedding, but he didn't want to do so still as the President of the AFL-CIO Minnesota. Therefore, Levi did not seek re-election as President and married her in 2013. With growing discontent with the Republican Party in Minnesota, Levi Murphy believed it was a perfect opportunity to run for public office. With strong backings from the union and activist progressive organisations, Levi won the Democratic primary and clinched the Minnesota Senate election in 2014. He ran on a progressive platform of raising the minimum wage, investing more in infrastructure and public schools, legalizing recreational marijuana, increasing the tax burden on the rich, universal healthcare, prison justice reform, universal and free college. During his time in Congress, Levi flouted a strong left-wing record, with particularly strong anti-war positions. He proposed several bills to introduce a national $15 dollar minimum wage and the legalisation of recreational marijuana. None of these gained enough traction, but he was seen as a powerful voice for the people of Minnesota.

Character State of Origin: New York
Character State of Residence: New York
Character Party Affiliation: Democratic
Main Strengths: Wealthy, Liked within the Party, Charismatic
Main Weaknesses: Not well known outside of New York, Older, Prone to gaffes
Biography:
Born to a successful New York Prosecutor and an heiress of a profitable real estate company, John was birthed on the 8 January 1955, in Lenox Hill Hospital, New York City. Being the oldest child of the family, John had a very easy childhood and naturally excelled at school, specifically in Maths and Science. While he looked up to his father, he was heavily influenced by his mother, who taught him a lot about the world of business.

After graduating High School in 1973, John was at an impasse on what to do. While he admired his father, he had little interest in studying and practicing law, so he decided to enter the world of Finance. With that newfound flame, John decided to do a degree in Economics and Mathematics at Yale. His first years at Yale were quiet ones, with John mostly sticking with a few close friends. However, when John was in his final year he would emerge from his 'shell' and become a much more confident person. With this degree, he would go on to attend Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1979, where he excelled. He would then move back to New York City and would soon be picked up by the investment bank, Morgan Stanley.

John worked in Morgan Stanley as an associate for three years before rising to the position of Partner. However, John would not stay with Morgan Stanley long, as he eventually made some moves and founded Irpac, his own hedge fund where he served as senior-managing-partner. This was where John made most of his money. While John was normally a very cautious man, he did invest a number of times in volatile markets, which the majority made John quite a lot of money. By the mid-'90s, John had made millions with his work in his hedge fund.

2000 was a significant year for John, after fundraising for (Not-Al Gore), he became a major player within the New York Democratic Party, with him funding many State races within the party. He also met with then First Lady Diana Clifford, supporting her in her Senate race.

Due to his close friendship with Diana Clifford, he was an avid supporter of her 2008 Presidential run. While he was disappointed that she didn't win the nomination, he immediately began fundraising for (Not-Obama), quickly becoming one of (not-Obama)'s most prolific fundraisers. This loyalty did not go unrecognized as (not-Obama) invited John to celebrate election night with him and the campaign in Chicago, Illinois. He would later be invited to his inauguration.

The next years would be quite uneventful for John, with his name being occasionally floated for some Senior government positions. He did, however, in this time, found NationOne. This was an educational non-profit focused on closing the educational achievement gap by providing children with abundant opportunities outside the school day. Originally started in New York, he spread it to within the New England area.

When 2016 came around, John considered running for the nomination, but he instead supported Diana Clifford in the primaries. During an interview with a local New York he accidentally called Clifford's opponent a 'democratic communist', he would later apologize for the statement. A few months into the Primary John had to be reminded who the other Democratic Primary candidates were during a radio interview. He later claimed that the names had just slipped his mind. John would later be advised by the Clifford Campaign to stop giving interviews, to which he agreed to. When Clifford won the nomination, John began fundraising again and steadily became one of her major donors. He was also in attendance with the Clifford campaign on election night.

In 2018, he helped fundraise for the New York Democratic Party. This was also the year he released an autobiography book and began a book across the nation. While his book did not gain headline news, it sold moderately well. He helped with many of the State races in 2018.

With the 2020 Presidental race looming over the nation, John has been considering a run, and with Wolf not seeking a second term, his mind may be already made up.

Other Info: Worked on the Jimmy Carter campaign in 1976. Has a lesbian cousin. Estimated net worth to be around $700 million.
