Safe. Thats how civilians felt when the Avengers were still active. And so it came as no surprise that after the untimely death of Tony Stark and the end of the Avengers, people all over the world began to feel insecure.

The year is 2033. After Nick Fury's resignation, Black Widow took over as director. But Natasha soon mysteriously "committed suicide", leaving the organization in disarray. Captain America is 190 years old, and the effects of the super soldier serum are wearing off; he is left with a poorer physical ability and lots of wrinkles. Dr. Bruce Banner is in hiding to prevent himself from losing control after the last incident. The Fantastic Four have gone missing. The X-Men have been confined to darkness as the government begins to crack down on young untrained mutants. The world is left with few reputable heroes to defend it.

Elsewhere, evil is flourishing. The New York mob led by the Kingpin has vastly expanded, and is responsible for most of the street crime on the East Coast. They have entered into an uneasy alliance with Oscorp, now led by a goblin-less Harry Osborn; he's supplying criminals with arms and tech. 28 year old Daily Bugle photographer Peter Parker is doing his best to manage the barrage of crime in NYC along with Daredevil, but Peter's having a hard time balancing his life with his responsibility.

Young heroes are rising. But will it be enough to keep the sinister plans at bay?

Welcome to the OOC Thread for Marvel: Resurrection. This is a superhero RP set in the Marvel universe, and New York City in particular. You can be a hero or villain, any original character or Marvel. You can have connections to existing Marvel heroes or villains, or create and entirely original one. If you do play a heavy weight Marvel character, try to play them well. The plot is mostly open ended. I'm looking for a CO-OP who can basically take on most of the OP's duties, since I've only run one RP before.

The Rules

• You can be an OC or almost anyone in the Marvel universe.
  While you can make your own character, which I highly encourage, the nature of the RP gives you many pre-existing characters to play as. Marvel comics has a plethora of characters to offer. You can be any one of them if you like. I will add that any original Avenger, X-Man, or member of the Fantastic Four (e.g. Wolverine, Reed Richards, etc.) will be quite old - probably nearing 60 or more. I may bar you from being any character I see as being too OP. I also reserve Peter Parker, my personal favorite, for myself.
  
• Decisions
  This is mostly a sandbox rp. So you are free to make your own stories and arcs within the Universe. Your arc may fall into my ideas for a plot story and get caught into my arcs. That being said, my word and the word of anyone I appoint as a Co-OP is binding. If you don’t like a decision, I will, of course, have a look at it.
• Post Quality
  I don’t dislike short posts but please use proper spelling (I don’t care what regional variant), grammar etc., and make it at least a paragraph or two.
• Posting Commitment: Nothing is worse than making an RP only for it to die. Therefore, I ask that players make at least one post every 72 hours. If you find yourself unable to post, please let me know in the OOC thread.
• Posting Speed On the flip side, blitz posting can also be infuriating. So, esepically during arcs and interactions, I recommend giving your fellow players time to post within a reasonable time. We all have real lives. If a player is unable to post within 72 hours, then it would be safe to post by them. Just keep interactions nice and smooth and easy to catch up on.
• IC Manners
  Remember, we are writing a story, not playing to win. If I think you are writing your character as overpowered I will ask you to tone it down.
• Character Death
  Player death is possible in this RP, though will be quite rare and easily avoidable, but please don’t write that you have killed another character unless you have OOC permission from the character's owner to do it. If someone goes inactive in the middle of a fight scene without explanation and cannot be raised, I may decide to kill their character off.
• Keep it PG13
  Shouldn’t need to be telling you this really. Hopefully you all know how to write forum-safe stuff by now. I will be extremely disappointed if the mods have to pay us a visit.
• Banning Players
  I really don’t want to be doing that but I reserve the right to if you cannot follow the (hopefully, rather simple) rules above.

Avengers Compound: The empty compound in upstate New York does have a Young Avengers wing...

The Baxter Building: Supposedly empty for now, but you never know when the Fantastic Four will return.

Oscorp Tower: Oscorp Industries' headquarters in midtown Manhattan. Will need to be paid a visit to investigate all the illegal scientific activity occurring inside.

Xavier Institute: The only safe haven for mutants after the government crackdown on mutant civilians; mutants are now being sent to camps by ICE if caught on the streets. New York is a sanctuary city for mutants, but they are advised to not leave the Xavier Institute. The Institute is led by Emma Frost ever since Professor Xavier's death.

Asgard: Thor has been banished from Asgard, stripped of his powers through Loki's trickery. Loki has murdered Odin and now rules over the kingdom.

Stark Industries: Has since been hit by hard times, and is struggling to compete with Oscorp since Tony Stark's death. Pepper Potts is now the CEO.

Hells Kitchen: The hub of NY's crime. Home of the Kingpin's mop. Daredevil protects this New York neighborhood.

A.R.E.S New York HQ: A.R.E.S' local headquarters from where they operate across the Americas. The building itself is several hundred meters off the coast of Manhatten, connected only by a long and large concrete bridge.

The Mafia

The main cause of chaos in New York. Led by the infamous crimelord, the Kingpin.

Guns For Hire

A mercenary organization that was affiliated with the Kingpin. Works for sinister groups and often came into conflict with the Young Avengers.

Oscorp

The Osborns use the company as a front for illegal arms trade activities. They also use suspicious methods to test their scientific developments.

The Young Avengers

Temporarily disbanded, but it was led by Kate Bishop, Hawkeye's skilled apprentice.

The Champions

A small team of superpowered first-time heroes, led by Riri Williams, who strive for greater organization than the Young Avengers.

HYDRA: The thought to be destroyed terrorist organisation bent on the establishment of a New World Order. For now, it gains power and influence in secret under the shadows; using its various public (and not so public) facades. Lead by the thought to be dead Wolfgang von Strucker.

A.R.E.S: The Stark Industries of Europe, the relatively young company has economically and technologically dominated the continent and now seeks to expand operations into the American market. Secretly controlled by HYDRA, lead by Geheim Schlange.

ESACO/The Syndicate: The European Syndicate of Associated Criminals is a secret organisation uniting all the major crime lords of Europe. Now they seek to expand their operation into the Americas and dominate the criminal underworld there. Secretly controlled by HYDRA, lead by Drostan McCullen.

Backstory: Jack was young when he happened to get caught in a battle between two metas. A simple stroll in the park left him permanently altered, when he fell into a portal opened by one of the metas, before the meta could create another connecting portal. What resulted was a full blast of the energy found between dimensions, for what to Jack felt like at least a day. He still can't properly remember what happened, only that

When he finally emerged, halfway across the city, he was physically unmarked, but coursing through his veins was the energy that gives him his powers. It appeared at odd moments throughout his life, but it truly culminated when he was nearly hit by a drunk driver. Jack subconsciously teleported out of the way. After that incident, he found much greater control over his powers. Now a fledgling hero, he decided he needed a way to gain meaningful experience. His first thought was finding a mentor, but realized joining Shield would be much easier, and more importantly, quicker. So now? He’s ready to be a hero.

Powers/Weapons/Tech: Teleportation- Jack can teleport 10 feet in any direction, so as long as he is not teleporting into an occupied space
Weaknesses: Can only teleport 10 feet, any further puts enormous strain on his body leading to fatigue, can not bring along anything besides what he's holding in his hands and his clothes

Personality: Peter has an unshakeable moral compass; he is known for his indomitable sense of justice and his clear idea of right and wrong. He will never resort to wrongdoing. He believes in taking responsibility, which means he is sometimes hard on himself. Another trait of his is his sense of humor. Spider-Man always cracks jokes, even in the most dangerous situations. The reasons for this vary; sometimes Peter does this to relieve the stress of being a hero, and at other times he does it to distract himself from his fear. Behind this humorous facade, however, is an extremely damaged soul that has endured a lot of suffering. Peter is courageous and, most importantly, he never gives up.

Backstory: We all know the story. After being bit by a radioactive spider on a school field trip, 14 year old Peter Parker developed super abilities like speed, strength, flexibility, and adhesive fingertips. But at first he didn't utilize his gifts to save others. He decided to join a wrestling circuit to make some cash for himself. But when the organizer didn't pay up after Peter won the match, Peter decided to ignore the thief who was robbing the man. That decision came back to slap him when the same criminal shot Peter's father figure, Uncle Ben. Peter vowed to never shirk his responsibility again, thus becoming the Amazing Spider-Man.

Due to his righteousness and perseverance, Peter has developed the largest rogues gallery of any other hero. His biggest fear was that someone else he loved would get hurt due to his superhero activity. That fear was finally realized when Gwen Stacy, his girlfriend and confidante, was murdered by his arch nemesis, the Green Goblin. Peter still has nightmares about the night Gwen Stacy died.

Peter soon became close to the Avengers. Tony Stark became a new mentor to him. He even was an Avengers member for a while, but Peter decided that he enjoyed the agency of working alone. After graduating from high school, Peter attended Empire State University and studied physics there, while working a part time job at the Daily Bugle. Tony continued to be especially close to Peter. At 23 Peter married his longtime girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson. He was a happy man. But two years later, Peter's world fell apart. He had to bury Aunt May. Tony was extremely supportive during that time. So it hit Peter especially hard when Tony went down in battle against Doctor Doom only a year after Aunt May's death. And, to top that all off, Mary Jane decided to get a divorce. She confessed that she had been cheating on Peter all those hours when he'd been out of the house fighting crime. Peter couldn't blame her. He had barely been able to give her a happy life. Mary Jane soon married Harry Osborn, which was a big slap to Peter's face.

Peter is a wounded soul. He hasn't been able to shrug off the PTSD from Gwen's death, then Tony's death. And the Sinister Six still terrors him. He doesn't know how long Spider-Man will be able to last.

Powers/Weapons/Tech: Super speed (250 mph), super strength (25 tons), agility, adhesive fingers, spider sense
Weaknesses: He is hard on himself; Peter blames himself when bad things happen, even when it isn't his fault. He is obsessed about protecting the people he loves, and villains often take advantage of that.

Personality: Always goes straight to the point. Bossy and rude, surprisingly very smart.

Affiliation: Kingpin and his mob
Backstory: Jake Meyers was born accidentally to a poor couple who lived in downtown NYC in a crappy apartment. He had a horrible life, his father always getting drunk and beating his mom. Eventually his father abused him too. He couldn't fight back, but when he was sixteen, he had enough. He got a kitchen knife and stabbed his dad, his mom watching with gaping eyes. He also killed his mom, leaving no evidence behind.

After that he left his home, so he needed money. He worked as a cashier for while, but that wasn't enough. He got into drug dealing and the illegal arms trade. That's how he met Kingpin. He started working for him, but eventually branched off and founded Guns For Hire. He kept in touch with Kingpin and started doing mercenary work for him. He employed more and more people, and had a huge operation running.

Then, in the middle of a job, his vehicle was blown up by a RPG. It blew his right arm completely off, and blurred his vision. He was lifeflighted back to the Guns For Hire base. The medical doctors gave him a metal arm made of tungsten. They equipped it with the ability to transform into many different weapons, basically anything he thought of. They also made him a mask, which gave him great vision, and it was linked to his arm giving him the transforming ability. He was shocked at first, and gradually grew into getting used to it.
Powers/Weapons/Tech: Right metal arm made of almost indestructible tungsten, can transform into any weapon he can think of, that can actually be realistically made. Mask that can analyze terrain and see people through walls, and stuff like that.
Weaknesses: Some heat weapons hot enough can melt his arm. Hypnosis works very easily on him. Any types of magic will usually work.
Skills: Very strong, great vision, great at creating battle strategies.

The medical doctors gave him a metal arm made of tungsten. They equipped it with the ability to transform into many different weapons, basically anything he thought of. They also made him a mask, which gave him great vision, and it was linked to his arm giving him the transforming ability. He was shocked at first, and gradually grew into getting used to it.
Powers/Weapons/Tech: Right metal arm made of almost indestructible tungsten, can transform into any weapon he can think of, that can actually be realistically made. Mask that can analyze terrain and see people through walls, and stuff like that.
Weaknesses: Some heat weapons hot enough can melt his arm. Hypnosis works very easily on him. Any types of magic will usually work.

Personality: Moral nihilist/cynic - Karoline has seen the worst of Humanity, thus she consider everyone to be of the similar type - assuming the worst in everyone that she encounters; her day-to-day and criminal life haven't helped change her perspective in the matter of humans. Backstory: Long ago when heroes were still somebodies to look up to and trust and the government hadn't fallen down the bit of decay and corruption. Karoline Hope was born. Or rather created by a brilliant scientist known as Dr. John Hope - he was the leading expert in robotics at the time. Namely - Karoline was the product of several years of breakthrough research in the fields of artificial intelligence, biology and robotics.

Her creator had wanted a daughter - but when his own biological daughter sadly was born as a stillborn, he had decided to create one himself. With DNA from his lost daughter - he had it cloned and mixed into creating Karoline-08. She was an amazing child back then - created to be a perfect synthetic variation of a human. Namely she was all but human in appearance and physical make-up. While her parts were different, she was still the same - by creation wise. Over the years as Karoline grew - she learned to improve herself as any ordinary human. She grew to become, as strong and enduring than the toughest human, as fast and agile as the greatest athlete. In time, she also became a hero - in a time, where heroes were slowly but surely choked out by the Superhero Registration Act.

The SRA had become a team of superheroes in itself - modeled after the late Avengers Initiative. However, this one was under the control of designated UN Delegate - by the name of Joseph Huller. The man in question had been an ex-mercenary in service to the United States government. During these times - there was less emphasize on the moral and team-aspect and more on getting results. Most young heroes whom joined the SRA - were either chewed out or became much worse in both mental and physical terms. One of them was Karoline...

She had started being a vigilante in her home-town, after her father retired. Namely after several high-profile cases involving vigilante actions causing massive damage - any and all heroes or hero-wannabees were forced to sign under SRA, like Karoline did. What none of the young heroes knew - was that Joseph Huller was a control-freak. In essence, each and every youngling had a set of 'fail-safes' installed within their bodies, upon if they became a liability they would be eliminated.

Karoline was one such individual - despite her likability, eagerness and wish to do good; her dreams were shattered one by one. As Huller deemed her too unpredictable, unprofessional and not an 'asset'. By that point the SRA had become an almost glorified mercenary band - obeying orders from the UN through the US. But in essence, all the major officers had been former mercenaries - and all they cared about were results and getting it done. Not playing team, doing good or being a 'hero'. In Huller' mind - even the act of embarrassing the SRA was cause for termination.

After Karoline messed up a recovery of an enemy operative - she had succeeded in getting her to safety - but embarrassing the SRA in such a way, that her status as an Agent was stripped from there. Despite her young age, of barely twenty-three - Karoline was demoted to termination. Due to her nature as a synthetic being - she wasn't awarded any legal rights in Huller' mind. He also thought her a liability to her robotic nature - and likely threat of being 'hacked'. As such, with a push of a button - Karoline' synthetic heart was stopped and she was settled for disposal.

Before that, she'd be disassembled and her parts used for improving the 'security and safety' of the U.N. Her father, however - had planned for such an occasion - when Karoline was ready to be disassembled, via a robotic-surgeon - it triggered a terminator viruses embedded in her system. The lab where Karoline was scheduled to be disassembled - suffered a system-crash and due to a fire was burned to the ground. Her body was assumed burned. The once cheerful and eager hero was gone - after Joseph Huller had killed the woman, back in the SRA HQ. Instead what remained was Ghost - a person, whom completely broke ties with her humanity and in essence. Karoline wanted revenge...she wanted justice...

Sadly...another hero would beat her to the punch - namely one hero by the name of Star-Fall. A former comrade of her team and best friend - had killed Huller, after the man had insulted his ability to lead her team and for causing the death of Karoline. Suffice to say, Huller never survived to reap his rewards - due to his death, the 'fail-safes' triggered. Namely killing off over several thousand young and aspiring heroes. The irony being...it was blamed on the superhero community.

In the following years, Karoline became what she was - a Ghost, able to blend in, move without being seen, a haunting presence in the lives of ordinary people. As the years passed and the world turned worse - Karoline become more cynical, she lost her old identity. Able to take on dozens over the years - as she improved herself even further, than her creator and father had assumed.

Only thing known, is that nobody should be in her way...

Powers/Weapons/Tech: Karoline is a chameleon - in essence able to change her shape. Namely able to change her shape and form to anybody - this applies only to their appearance and not in essence their powers. Due to being a chameleon, she is also able to in-essence turn invisible as well.

Weaknesses: Karoline has no friends - and her life as cold-android has left her void of emotions, to the point that she has become more mechanical than organic. It has slowly over the years affected her ability to socialize, have anybody to rely on or be happy at all. While a robot in essence, her body is only on the level of an olympian at best - able to tolerate small-arms fire and fall from heights - but an armored tank she is not. Due to being a machine, she has a weakness towards electrical and electric-based attacks or gadgets.

Skills: Karoline has nearly four decades of combat experience, in unarmed, armed, urban and cyberwarfare. Her ability to hack is very methodical and rapid - able to easily overwhelm even the most experienced electronic-countermeasures. In those times, she has learned to blend in with the crowd, how to avoid detection, cover her tracks and also be an experienced hunter and detective.
