The country on Madande was once a French Colony, In 1960 it was granted its independence from France. It’s first head of state was President Hyacinthe M’bako a pro-French and anti-communist politician who'd gotten the Nickname "Injami" meaning "Wild Dog" in IwaNajya. He was a proponent of Françafrique, and he took the Franc and the French policy that came with taking it. Almost immediately the country fell into conflict, members of the hard line Committee of Peasants and Workers of Soudan Ouest. It was a low level conflict for most of its existence. But in 1965 CPWSO forces captured the town of Abemdej. The Siege of Abemdej killed nearly 7,000 people and displaced over 45,000. It was the deadliest battle seen in the country and to M'bako only showed him how far the communist were willing to go. In 1968 Peace Agreements were signed between the M’bako Government and the CPWSO, the hope was that they would be marginalized within the political system and relegated to irrelevance as a result. elections with the CPWSO were held in 1970 to little fanfare. Bardou Kissa won the election for the communist and the peaceful transition of power was honored. Kissa’s administration redistributed lands and instituted hardline marxist policies. His policies helped to expand the semi-nomadic Naufhaja people’s pastoral lands. However farming lands in the south occupied by Gimbendi, Najya, and Chekinwa people were forcibly redistributed. His policy of “Nouveau Tribalisme” sought to create communal farms based on the old tribal subsistence farming tradition.

In 1973 several military mutinies affect the army regarding pay and protest to Kissa’s policies. Naufhaja soldiers loyal to Kissa were used to suppress the mutineers. Forces in the South rallied around a junior officer named Nathanaël Gbagbundi. He lead these forces from the southern town of Jindani up to the capital of Euntebi. A war broke out with battles at Yabjina and Boubou being the largest and deadliest of the war. The loyalist forces were broken at these battles. Gbagbundi marched into the capital and his forces arrested Kissa. Kissa was given a show trial and executed, Gbagbundi assumed the presidency. His presidency was supported by the French with continuous financial support.

French Mining Company Sessevalle Mining made big inroads into the country's mineral rich eastern region. Initially Iron and Aluminum were discovered. These finds helped lead to the nations first mining boom. however by the 1990’s mining in the region had slowed down. This was due to a combination of the quality of the ore and the cost effectiveness of mining in the area. The virgining economy hit a slump as the mining industry stagnated. However with the rise of the smartphone industry deposits of Palladium, Cobalt, and Tin were further explored. Early surveys put the country as one of the most mineral rich countries in the region. They were also some of the most minimal rich ores on the continent. The ease of extracting these minerals and the increased funding to infrastructure made the profit margins ever larger and lucrative.

Gbagbundi has remained as president since the coup. His policies have been linked to stable economic growth however with a history of human rights abuses, high illiteracy rates, and a history of child labor violations. His country has seen more tension as the economy has seen financial woes coming from the value of the West African Franc. As part of the CFA Monetary System Madande held only 30% of its wealth, with the majority of its wealth being held within the French Treasury and would only allow credit at a fixed rate. When the financial crisis hit the government could not get credit to sustain itself. It was after this Gbagbundi has pushed for leaving the CFA and adopting their own currency and Gbagbundi has said he’d use the military to evict French mining companies from the country. However the Naufhaja have been more than willing to overthrow the current regime as they’ve been left out of much of the economic and political growth within the country.

French President Sarkozy visited the country in order to negotiate with Gbagbundi. French Defense Minister Hervé Morin met with Defense Minister of Madande Irénée-Marie Sissomariko as well as Generals Unaru, and M’hidi Ahmed. Morin and M’hidi Ahmed would meet the longest. Later that month, a series of mutinies within the army commanded by M’hidi Ahmed occurred. Eventually more mutinies would occur predominantly in the East and center of the country. The units under M’hidi Ahmed’s command would break off and form the Allied Democratic Forces of the M’zab (ADFM). Within the day the other mutinous armies broke off and formed the New Army of Young Patriots and Freedom Fighters (NAJPCL) under the command of Sub-Lieutenant Abraham Inyki. The army in the capital was split, many were split on section by section basis. Upon the announcement of the new rebelling forces fighting broke out within the main garrison in the capital, Army Base Euntebi. ADFM and NAJPCL militants storm important facilities within the capital, ADFM forces entered from the north and destroyed telecommunication facilities. NAJPCL forces assaulted the Parliament and the Presidential Palace. The Attack on Parliament is a staggering success, the rebelling forces stormed the building which parliament resided in and arrested or killed all 400 members of Parliament. However the assault on the Presidential Palace went awry. The forces tasked with this were able to breach the outer walls but came up against the crack forces of the Presidential Guard. However within a few hours the presidential palace was taken and Gbagbundi was killed in the assault. Another target, the Ministry of Defense was attacked but defended by members of the Lion Force. These forces were able to defend the ministry of defense. Defense Minister Sissomariko survived the incident and remained in the capital. With news that the Prime Minister and much of the cabinet were dead or arrested, Sissomariko proclaimed himself President of the state. Now the capital lay in an orgy of gun fire and violence.

We’ve been in Euntebi only six months maybe. We rotated in to replace the last group. However We’d all probably been in country six or seven times over the years. I’d personally been all over doing security work for Sessevalle. We were contracted through Alexon Defense Strategies. I’d done work in the capital before, one of the most modern cities on the whole continent. Men and women dressed in designer attire, Alexander Amosu suites, and Chopard Sunglasses. However in the east it was a different story. I remember helping to train some Paramilitary Forces who would guard the mining communities. Those people wore shit like Chicago Bears Super Bowl XLI Champion shirts, raggedy pants, and recycled tire sandals. We walked passed the mine entrance during training and saw a small kid, maybe six or seven years old. He was smashing ore with an old rusty piece of machinery. He had a pile of ore to his left, and a pile of broken ore on his right. He had no clothes except for some tattered old shorts. The wealth disparity was immense and unfathomable.

We had done security for Marcel Lurçat, the CFO for Sessevalle who operated regularly in country. We would also help train presidential guard units from time to time of things like CQB training. They were the lucky ones and got things like the FAMAS and Steyr AUG PARAs. The rest of the Army, depending on if they were in the good graces of the President would get anything from SG 542’s, FAMAS’s, Tavors, and Micro Galils. Others, especially in the north were out fitted with old Commbloc surplus, I’d seen some soldiers in units walking around with shit like AMD-65’s, Norinco CQs, BM59’s, and even old MAS-49’s with old AKM pistol grips drilled into the stock. Things really were in shambles. Yet when you've got money coming in like you've never seen before, it can make these things subside within your conscience. Sometimes you’ll remember when money was a scarce thing. The feeling of making €12,000 a month could make you look over these sorts of things. It's easy to overlook them as others, I need the money to provide for my family back home. These people were not my people, their issues were not my issues, these people were not my people.

Our rotations in started to get more frequent after the financial crash. We'd go in and help keep the peace. First we did security work at the french embassy in Euntebi. Then after that short contract we transferred east to protect vital mining infrastructure. Some guys would come around and try to throw petrol bombs at the equipment, usually you could flash your rifle and they'd run off. Things never got to intense and once we finished training we went back to company headquarters in Euntebi. Around the November time frame we got an influx of corporate security details. Director of Regional Operation Jean-Marie Duchesnay would show up and meet with members of the military on a bi-weekly basis until the middle of december. Then you had the French coming through on their diplomatic missions. We were not privy to those conversations, however knowing the French, knowing Sarkozy you could tell something was afoot.

About a month later things blew up. In the course of a day we had a series of mutinies. Gun fire in the streets. We were sent to guard the Headquarters. Teams Berthe, Irma, and Suzanna were sent on "Security Missions" around the city. We held the HQ that whole day, we saw a few looters and men with guns. They stayed away usually making B-Lines to other streets. We weren't given an evacuation notice even when the armies started entering the city. The next day the air in the building was tense. We were not told why but that morning the whole of the leftover staff were burning documents in bins on the roof, and smashing up all the HDD's they could find in the building. Head of Local Operations Hasan Huceni, Chief Financial Officer Marc Gamalin, and Chief Logistics Officer Pau Vœxneau had all left. We all new what was going on, no one needed to spell it out. After we finished clearing out the building we were briefed on what we needed to do. Section Irma was being held by Government Forces at Toufaghani Prison. We needed to rescue them do to them holding "sensitive information " we were even given the all clear to put their lives at risk if no other options were viable. We had until tomorrow morning or else we'd be stuck here. The plan was to get Section Irma and then haul ass to Kihntanbi Regional Airport so we could evacuate to Djemah before getting back to Europe. That gave us roughly 17 hours to get all this done, while the city was devolving. If we wanted to see our families again we really had no choice.

As you’ve read above. Shits hit the fan. You are tasked with RPing as a member of a Private Military Contractor. You were involved in a Coup initiated by both corporate executives and members of the French government. However the whole plan did not go as planned and now a team of coworkers are held by the remainder of the previous government. You are to make sure they can not release information on either the corporate or government involvement in this coup. Whether they’re brought back dead or alive is not a concern for Alexon anymore. They’re simply concerned with covering up their involvement, If we fail then it means the arrest of dozens of people, prosecution by international bodies as mercenaries, and possible collapse of a whole countries government. Possibly even worse.

Alexon Defense Strategies as a company usually recruited from Europe and Africa, men who served in the French Foreign Legion, 44 Pathfinder Platoon, 3 Commando Brigade, and the Marine Fusilier Commando Company are the most common in the company. However there is a small number of American, Canadian, Brazilian, Indian, and South Koreans are also part of the company. Your character may be of any background so long as it’s realistic and within reason. However given the nature of Alexon, a French based company that does most of its operations in former French colonies you are trained to speak French at a conversational level. You are also taught key words in the local language and local hand gestures to help ease communication.

Alexon has a very liberal policy on equipment. You are free to choose your own kit and clothing. The company has a stock of 9x19mm, 5.56x45mm NATO, 7.62x51mm NATO, 7.62x39mm, and 5.45x39mm ammunition for your needs. Other ammunition is available to be shipped in at a cost to the contractor. In the country you are most likely to find various AKM and AK74 pattern firearms as well as FAMAS rifles and smaller numbers of FN FALs, Daewoo K2s, and G3s usually from Nigeria. However given the number of contacts at the companies disposal anything within reason is obtainable.

Remember, you can not let the media be aware of your presence in the city. While you can engage forces who are firing at you it is important to keep your actions low key. We've just finished scrubbing the Corporate Headquarters. Your first act will be to meet up with a friendly named Takfarin Zéroual. He leads a small brigade of the ADFM in the Yambarra neighborhood who will help you get to Toufaghani.

BASIC BACKGROUND: Matteo was born in Trento in the 1970's. When he was young, his family moved to Turin where his dad took up work at a Fiat manufacturing plant. His mother took up work at a small vineyard helping to make wine. He grew up relatively poor in the small community outside of Turin. As a youth Matteo was involved in small time street gangs where he would help pickpocket and swindle tourists out of money. Usually nothing big but it helped to supplement the income of his family as well as the train tickets to and from Turin.

When Matteo had just turned 18 he was convicted on an assault charge. Matteo had attempted to seal a purse from a tourist, when the tourists husband caught up to him they exchanged blows. Matteo beat the woman's husband so badly he lost sight in his left eye. Matteo served a year in prison for the incident. During his time in prison Matteo had come to the conclusion that he wanted to have a change in prospects. He planned on joining the Italian army upon getting out of prison, hoping to get out and away from his home and the influences that lead him to his lifestyle as well as hopefully developing skills for employment in the future.

Upon getting out of prison he was denied entry into the Army for his criminal conviction. Feeling as though he had no other opinions he borrowed some money from his mom and took a Train to Strasbourg where he applied to join the French Foreign Legion. The process was simple and quick. He was in and in basic training within the week. He did more or less well during his training. First he was sent to French Guiana for Tropical Combat Training. Then he was deployed to Côte d'Ivoire to help with French efforts in the countries civil war. Matteo’s unit saw little to not combat and he was rotated out of the country 8 months later. He was later deployed to Afghanistan. While in afghanistan he saw combat for the first time when his convoy came under attack by Taliban militants. His VAB came under fire by a B-10 recoilless rifle operated from a cliff side cave. His team was able to use a MILAN ATGM to attack the cave. Matteo escaped the incident unharmed. However three weeks later his base came under direct small arms and mortar fire, Matteo suffered minor shrapnel wounds from a Mortar shell. He was treated at the field hospital.

After his deployment he was rotated back to France for training. When asked if he wanted to renew his contract. When asked about his prospects for a new contract he was told he might see another deployment in Afghanistan but would most likely stay in France training. He chose to not renew his contract. He originally planned on going back to italy and becoming a police officer. However he was contacted by Alexon Defense Strategies. He was offered a contract for a mission to Iraq where he would help supply convoys in and out of the Green Zone. He agreed and was sent off to Baghdad after a few weeks of orientation.

His first week in country saw him engaged in an ambush by iraqi militants. His small convoy transporting medical supplies from the Airport to Camp Liberty. His convoy was fired upon for a whole kilometer by alternating machine gun nests across the road. While that was his first experience that wouldn’t be his last. Later in the month his convoy would be fired upon by Shia militants in northwest Baghdad. He’d see nearly 3 more attacks in his 5 month contract in the city. He was then moved to France for Further training he met his now wife Fiona while on short leave. They very quickly and unintentionally Fiona had gotten pregnant at the time.

After that he was offered a “Long Term Residential Contract” in Madande. He quickly put Fiona as his significant other to allow her to get residency with him in the country. Most of his work was for the French Mining Company Sessevalle. His twin son and daughter were born in the country. Upon the outbreak of the conflict in the country his family had been evacuated by the French government to Marseille. He is now unknowingly embroiled in an international situation as he leads his team to carry out their mission at Toufaghani.

BASIC BACKGROUND:
Saloman was born in the coastal city of Douala into a comparatively affluent household compared to the majority, though still by no means a 'rich' family, his family was quite well respected in the neighborhood for running a successful bakery business near the Central Douala Market of which Sal was accustomed to at a young age and as soon as he could perform basic tasks, he would help around in the kitchen at home. Growing up Sal would later be formally employed by the business ran by his uncle and father.

Sal however was quite sheltered and rarely ever saw things from outside his small little neighborhood, only the times where he would travel with his father to the outskirts of the city to visit family and perform various errands, he became enamored with the countryside and how verdant it was. After his uncle fell ill and his father too busy working a part time in an office job, Sal took up the reigns of the bakery business for a while as an assistant manager, though after a while had to set aside the job to study at university, a degree in social sciences as it happened. Whilst on a backpacking trip in the countryside, Sal was bitten by a Cobra, luckily a local drove him to the local hospital where he was administered the antivenom promptly.

After his degree had been achieved, Sal still felt like there was something missing and had enough money left to travel to France where he applied to a French University in the field of Biomedical sciences. Here he worked a part time job as a delivery driver and also was where he met his wife, the two got married after a short while and continued his studies, as part of his degree he was accepted into the French Defense Health Service as a medical practitioner, and a friend suggested that after his degree he should join the foreign legion. Doing just that, Sal completed his basic training and went on to specialize in combat medicine and was deployed to Northern Mali to fight rising Islamic Insurgency, Seirra Leone & Guinea as part of a special task force to help halt the spread of the west African Ebola epidemic and later to fight against illegal mining and human trafficking operations.

Upon returning home, Sal found that he had accrued massive debts in the attempt to buy a house and facing financial ruin, was forced to live in his wife's parents house whilst he looked for a suitable job. Finding nothing in the civilian sector, Sal was tipped off by an old FFL buddy about a private military contractor looking to hire ex-soldiers, the pay seemed good and so he took out an extra loan to purchase plane tickets, as well as to purchase some of the equipment he would need and flew out.

Very interested in this RP. Would it be possible to have a pilot character with a helicopter or are vehicle assets currently ground based?

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
FAMILY:
Helena Andrade de Oliveira - wife
Pedro Guimarāes de Oliveira - son
Beatriz Guimarāes de Oliveira - daughter
    Marcos Guimarāes - father
    Laura de Oliveira - mother
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS: N/a
MARITAL STATUS: Married
BASIC BACKGROUND: Paulo Guimarāes de Oliveira was born in the suburbia of Campinas to an average middle class family: a small business owner, his wife, as well as an older brother. Paul had the luck of being born during to a relatively well-off family, barely being touched the economic and political turmoil that had rocked the country during his childhood. Unlike many of his peers, Paul had access to a good education through a French school – widely deemed superior to the native education system – and was pursuing a degree in chemistry when he was called up for military service. This short interlude was actually quite healthy, as it served to beat some sense into him and imbue him with a discipline that would help him later in his studies.
At the conclusion of his service, he went on to study industrial chemistry at a local university, and participated in an student exchange program with France. He also married Helena de Andrade in 1999, with whom he would later have his first child.
Unfortunately, this wouldn't last long. In the early 2000s the consequences of several missteps began to be felt as the his father unsuccessfully tried to expand his business. A few reckless loans, coupled with a lower than anticipated income, sent his father into debt. The Oliveira family was no longer able to fund his stay abroad, and Paul was forced to return. In 2002 – after significant trouble – his father would declare bankruptcy, forcing Paul to cease his studies. With the value of his Bachelor's degree reaching a new low, he found himself in a tight spot, but nevertheless managed to secure himself a low-ranking position in the army thanks to some old friends.
In 2007, with the birth of his second child, making ends meet on an army salary proved to be difficult, and Paul decided to look for work elsewhere. He contemplated returning to study chemistry with the small reserves he had made, but deep inside he knew he enjoyed his time in the army much more than in the few internships he had been through, and decided that he wanted to continue working in the military industry. Thanks to a peculiar friend he had made in France, Oliveira found an interesting and well-paying company in Alexon. His first year was mostly spent providing security in Europe, but comfort he was soon stripped from his comfort and sent a passage to the African continent.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION: Speaks fluent English, French & Portuguese, limited knowledge of Spanish. Good knowledge of chemistry.

WESSELS, RYLOND - ALEXON DEFENSE STRATEGIES

BASIC EMPLOYEE INFORMATION
FULL NAME: "My name is Rylond Francois Wessels. Francois was my grandfather. Altus Wessels was my father - ah. I see you've heard of him."

NICKNAME(S), PREFERRED: "French-speakers often prefer to call me Francois. English-speakers sometimes call me 'Ryl' - it rhymes with 'kill.'"

DOB - AGE: 02/23/1977 - 31

NATIONALITY: South African

BIRTHPLACE: Kroonstad, Orange Free State, Republic of South Africa

ETHNICITY: "My father is Afrikaans, a Boer of the Free State. My mother was British, and German, the daughter of a Jewish refugee from Germany and a mother - my grandmother - whose family had come to Africa with Rhodes. From my homeland's perspective, what is most important is that I am white. For me, growing up with mercenaries from all over the world, I have never doubted for a moment that I am African."

RELIGION: "I was raised in the Dutch Reformed - not faith, exactly, but tradition at least. I don't remember many church services, but I read the Bible, and I understood Boer Calvinist values as part of my inheritance: hard work, sobriety, purity, uncompromising strength. And the rituals of that tradition comfort and encourage me. That's still my religion, if all you mean by religion is 'philosophy.' If you ask me whether I really, truly believe in heaven or hell, God or Jesus? I'll admit I don't know."

APPEARANCE "I'm a fairly big man: 190 centimeters, eighty-five kilos, and I carry a lot of that weight in my arms and legs; I am powerful rather than bulky. I have long white knife-scars on my right forearm, and a circular bullet scar on my left shoulder, and I am missing part of my right earlobe. I also have Nuer ritual scarification on my chest; no tattoos, though."

MEDICAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITION: FIT

MEDICAL CONDITIONS:
  • Recurring malaria: plasmodium vivax infection can remain dormant in the liver for many years before unexpectedly becoming active and causing recrundescent symptoms - intense chills, fever, and sweating, usually on a two-day cycle until the body fights off the infection and the parasite becomes dormant again. Episodes of relapse occur once every few years or so.
MEDICAL HISTORY:
  • Defensive lacerations on both forearms, caused by a sharp knife. Dressed and stitched by Altus Wessels, Byumba Province, Rwanda, 5/20/1992.
  • Contracted vivax malaria. Treated using traditional Mende methods, Pandebu, Sierra Leone. Recovered from initial infection 1/12/1995. Has suffered periodic relapses since.
  • Green mamba snakebite. Treated with antivenom at Pont-Noire hospital, Republic of Congo, 7/2/1998.
  • Gunshot wound, left shoulder. 5.45x39mm bullet removed by Rwanda Patriotic Army medical personnel, Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo, 8/22/2000.
  • Lower right earlobe removed by knife as an act of torture by Janjaweed commander; Shattaya, Sudan, 3/13/2004. Field dressing provided by Justice and Equality Movement forces.
  • Contracted yellow fever. Treated by Alexon Defense Strategies medical personnel and made full recovery, Euntebi, Madande, 8/19/2007.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
EDUCATIONAL HISTORY: "I was educated by my mother until I was sixteen. English, Afrikaans, French, Xhosa; history, philosophy, literature, mathematics. After that, my father took over my education, and it became a great deal more practical: firearms, tactics, field medicine, and more languages. Eventually, many more languages. I have no university education, but that usually comes as a surprise to people: I am my mother's son too, and I still read a book a month whenever I can. My current project is The Guns of August."

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY: "I have been a mercenary since I was sixteen years old. All over the African continent. I started out in the Rwandan Civil War, and then I was in Mali fighting Touaregs in '93, and then Sierra Leone for several years training government forces, and then security for the UN in Somalia, and then Altus and I were hired to fight the rebels in the French Congo. I was in Eritrea, hired by the Ethiopians, in '99; I was in the DRC for several years during the Great War, hired to help the Rwandans and then the government. I spent a year in Darfur and another in the Niger Delta. And then I came here. It's been fifteen years, and I've never lacked for work."

SERVICE EQUIPMENT:
  • FN FAL 50.63 Para rifle, with three-point sling, clamp-on 3x scope, and flashlight duct-taped to forward handguard
  • Browning Hi-Power and 3x magazines.
  • Hand-forged machete, razor-sharp, with leather sheath.
  • Khaki bush shirt and blue jeans.
  • Traditional Touareg tagelmust, typically worn loosely around neck rather than covering head and face.
  • Custom-made steerhide hiking boots and woolen socks.
  • Omega Speedmaster watch.
  • Rothco lightweight plate carrier, khaki, with PALS grid and two Small Arms Protective Inserts.
  • Communications headset with earbud and throat mic.
  • Polarized aviator sunglasses.
  • In pockets: Leatherman, pocket flashlight, flex cuffs, notebook and pen, lensatic compass, compact binoculars, green chemlight, matches, iodine tablets, cigarettes.
  • Worn on plate carrier:
    • 6x magazines 7.62x51mm.
    • 3x magazines 9x19mm.
    • 2 M67 fragmentation grenades.
    • M18 red smoke grenade
    • 64 ounces of water in two 1-quart canteens.
    • Motorola PRC-153 Radio, linked to headset.
    • Individual first aid kit.
  • Swiss military surplus steel-frame backpack, containing:

    • Personal photographs.
    • Aluminum camp plate and mug.
    • Paperback copy of The Guns of August

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
FAMILY:
  • Altus Wessels, father, age 64. Legendary South African mercenary now retired as CEO of Wessels Strategic Intervention, Ltd.
  • Catherine Wessels, mother, deceased 1992. Stay-at-home mother trained as a schoolteacher.
  • Piet Wessels, younger brother, age 29. Estranged; currently a graduate student at New York University.
  • Anje Wessels, younger sister, age 26. Works at company offices in Bloemfontein, Wessels Strategic Intervention.
  • Mattie Harper, on-again-off-again romantic partner, age 30. Irish-born correspondent for BBC Africa; has found herself in the same conflict zones as Rylond Wessels many times.

KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS: Everyone who's worked in Africa for more than a year or two has at least heard of the Wessels, father and son. Markku Jarva specifically requested a temporary buyout of Rylond Wessels' contract from Wessels Strategic Intervention, in order to increase the experience level of Alexon's Madande team ahead of expected violence.

MARITAL STATUS: Unmarried

BASIC BACKGROUND: "Well, first of all, you know my father. Altus Wessels. The most reliable, most prolific mercenary in Africa - for decades. A living legend. But you may not know my mother. She was South African too, but not Afrikaner. The child of German refugees and middle-class Brits. She studied to be a schoolteacher. She raised me, on this beautiful ranch near Kroonstad on the highveld, where I could ride bareback for miles, and the townships and the raids and the rest of apartheid seemed very far away. My mother knew, I think, that I was not going to have the kind of life where I would get any conventional education. So she did her best to train into me the classics, and languages, and philosophy. She wanted me to be more than another Boer farmer-fighter, illiterate save for the Bible. And she succeeded.

"She died when I was sixteen. My father decided that was old enough, and instead of sending me to relatives like my brother and sister, he took me with him on his next contract. Rwanda. Ninety-two. That was the rest of my education. Firearms, knives, tactics, languages. Interrogation. Navigation. Most of all, survival: the skill, mental and physical, to go on even when you are sleepless and starving, drinking river water and shitting your guts out from dysentery, covered in leeches and infected sores. To go on. No matter what. An RPF fighter tackled me and cut my forearms to bloody ribbons with a machete, and I scrabbled for my pistol and shot him dead. My father stitched the wounds, and we went back into the bush the next day. That's what I learned.

"I learned something else, too, something my father had learned a long time ago. All the pieties of white South Africa were kak. This whole continent is full of decent people and bad governments, liars and thieves and victims, and color doesn't make a bit of difference. Not a bit. Apartheid fell when I was a teenager, and I've never missed it. My values are the values my father taught me. The world isn't ours to save. You don't check how much blood is on the money that you are offered; you don't agonize over how your work props up bad men or crushes good ones. But you are responsible for your own actions, day by day: the lives you take, the lives you don't. So you never welch on a contract, and you never break your word. But you never shoot civilians, either. A man has to have a code; all the more so when the world doesn't.

"The last fifteen years, I've been all over Africa. I was with my father until he retired six years ago. We were in Mali, hunting Touaregs in the desert for the oil companies during the uprising in '93. We were in Sierra Leone, on contract with the Brits to train government forces, fighting mostly other mercenaries for control of the diamond fields. That was where I met Mattie for the first time, when she was a twenty-one-year-old freelancer. After that we ran security for the UN in Somalia for a few years, long enough for my Arabic to get fluent. Then it was Central Africa, for a long time - a long time. The French Congo at first, during the civil war there, hired by the shipping companies to help the government hold on to Pont-Noire. Eritrea in '99, hired by the Ethiopians. The only time in fifteen years I've ever seen a proper airstrike. And then the DRC, the DRC for years, while every African country sent its troops and mercenaries for a piece of the pie. That was when Altus retired: there was enough money to be made in the Great War of Africa to turn our little family business into a proper company. I fought for the Rwandans, the Ugandans, the government. They were all spending money like there was no tomorrow. It was very bad, in the eastern Congo. Even by our standards, it got very, very bad.

"Some rich Americans hired me after that, to help out Sudanese rebels in Darfur. I think the Yanks thought it was some kind of humanitarian aid on their part. That was bad too. I blew up a couple army barracks, but the Janjaweed were a tougher fight. They grabbed me. That was when I lost my earlobe: sawed off with a dagger. It got worse than that, before they left for their next raid, and I throttled the guard they'd left behind and escaped. After that, a year in the Niger Delta defending oil pipelines from local villagers was like a vacation.

"And then I came here. Markku thought things in Euntebi were going sideways and he wanted an old Africa hand to steady the team. He bought out my contract from the family company and brought me in. Since then it's been corporate security, and standing around looking menacing, and good doctors - for the first time in my life, that last. What a luxury. I've learned the language, wandered the city, gotten my bearings. And now things have gone to hell, and all the lads here are acting like it's an emergency, and me? Well, I guess I have to go earn a living, like I always have."

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION: While he doesn't approach his father's mythic stature, Rylond Wessels is in his own right a minor legend among African mercenaries. He is known to pick up languages like a sponge, to be able to survive on old fufu and river water, to have overcome every tropical disease known to Western medicine, and to have an uncanny ability to sense booby traps and ambushes. Unlike almost everyone else in the business, he was born to this life rather than choosing it as a second or third career - and as a result he seems not like an interloper in Africa, but like an emanation of the continent's violence. Perhaps because of that, Rylond has a code, however narrow and perverse: he doesn't shoot civilians, he always finishes a contract, and his word is worth more to him than any amount of money. This is not a job to him, but a way of life; he has no other home to which to return.

For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.

Going to drop an app for a combat medic, if that's consistent with what OP is looking for?
Vaguely a pessimist, certainly an absurdist, unironically an antinatalist.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
FAMILY: Felicia Evans - Wife
Elena Evans - Daughter
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS: We've spoken to Evans multiple times over the years and every time it seems he doesn't mention anyone close to him. He isn't unfriendly, people have mentioned him if you look hard enough and it's never unpleasant, but it seems like he mostly keeps to himself on deployment. When stateside he's mostly with his family and doing family man things, so I guess it checks out. The psych report attached indicates he isn't anti-social in any medical capacity.
MARITAL STATUS: Married.
BASIC BACKGROUND: Little about Evans life before joining the Army stands out as being particularly interesting, the only thing of note that might jump out at you is that he and his wife (at the time Felicia González) got married the month before he shipped out for basic training. The two had been together since they were eleven or twelve but, to quote his psych report "he is likely, in this regard, full of shit." Given that Ms. Evans got her citizenship from this it can be assumed this played a part in the marriage, but when a financial audit was imposed by Alexon during his pre-employment checks, it was discovered that no money or assets changed hands. Keeping in mind that Ms. Evans father was a notorious drunk and her mother was absent, perhaps the Evans just fell in together. Stranger things have happened.

Evans was sent through an Advanced training for his MOS, 68W (Combat Medic) and until 2001 largely stayed within the US. Evans was deployed early to the Afghan Campaign and saw himself awarded a Bronze Star for saving several platoonmates who were injured in a roadside bombing in which he was also injured. After his recovery, he applied for Ranger Indoctrination Training and was accepted.

Evans was well received in RIT, handily passing the associated Jump School and earning his bump to 68W1, or special forces medic. He would again earn commendation at the Battle of Haditha Dam, though no medal. By 2005 he would be back in the US and soon after (guess the months) his daughter would be born. Elena was, however, dangerously ill and it wasn't something she was going to recover from, requiring constant medical care for the rest of her life. Evans tried to keep going with the US Army but either the quality of care offered or the cost of care (possibly both) wasn't enough, leading Evans to begin looking elsewhere. Eventually, through a former colleague, he was recommended to our service, where he has until most recently been working as a Consultant, though more often as a member of FRHEMT Teams in Latin America. With the recent troubles in Euntebi, he has been retasked to the service of local Alexon officers in the area, the word is they wanted to build their own FRHEMT Team but didn't have the authorization to do so officially, which of course didn't stop them. Apparently, he's been doing good work out there.

Oh, and his daughter's been doing better too, he asked me to include a compliment to our health plan in an official company document.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION: We've looked into his marriage a few times now, and despite a lot of odds the Evan's appear to be happily married. Felicia went to college before their daughter was born and became a software engineer. Their daughter has a full-time nurse who also functions as a nanny. In this same vein, we've sent someone around to check on the family when he isn't deployed (interesting aside, he absolutely knows, he's engaged in drycleaning when he's tired of being followed, and he's damn obvious about it) and he is quite possibly the most average Dad when at home (see attached photo of him in socks and sandals w/ cargo shorts). Most of his time spent back home is at home spending time with his wife and daughter, and when Felicia isn't at work they spend a lot of time out and about. It seems like most of his paycheck comes home or goes straight into one of several joint bank accounts he shares with Felicia (named things like "bills", "Emergency" or the everpresent "Savings"), but the lions share goes to a Special Needs Trust for Elena. If they aren't putting anything other than his pay in there, the thing is over $50,000 at this point. If he manages to retire that girl is going to be rich or damn near.

The pair live well within their means in a little home in San Francisco's Glenn Park. Low crime, good special needs school for Elena, and Felicia's job is pretty close by. I looked into her too, she's some kind of manager at youtube, been with the company since 2006. She has a big team under her, working on some kind of suggestion algorithm? What I could find out from my pretty basic surface-level digging in and from a conversation with Felicia herself made it clear the whole thing is beyond me, but she has a damn good head on her shoulders and I think that Trust I mentioned earlier probably has a lot more than 50k in it. The family is nice, my risk assessment report to Human Resources can go into much more detail on this whole thing, but I feel like I should end off with this: the man is a reliable asset, if not an especially skilled one. He wasn't a Delta or SEAL Team 6, but we can certainly count on him to do the job we tell him to.
RP EXAMPLES:Every RP I'm in dies in three pages and I've been inactive for months. I can give you something if you like but it won't be current and there won't be a lot.

Let me know if anything needs work, I hope the app works, the game looks fun as hell.
Changed some things before I (hopefully) got accepted, here's what I added: Alcohol, alcohol prep pads, changed the wording before his rifle to be less tacticool and more normal, added rations and a map to the general kit, gave his time with Alexon some entries to flesh out what he's been doing, added a lot to misc. info for some background on what he does when he's home and what his family is up to, and gave his wife a picture too.

Vaguely a pessimist, certainly an absurdist, unironically an antinatalist.
