Zara Azairya Vai declined her head in respect, as etiquette demanded, to Strauch. Her chin lifting back to its forward position after a short second. Her eyes swiveled to see the approaching form of Yang. Dirty and dusty. She smelled Firesalt on his body. I'm surprised Mephisto hasn't reclaimed that errant firewand yet. The notion of the spirit guardian of the House Vai vaults caused her to involuntarily purse her lips before returning her gaze back at Strauch. Lazily waving a hand over to Yang where food and drink was brought to him.

"Inquisitor Captain Strauch, Kensei, a pleasure to have a member of the Inquisition present...," Not really, "...I take it you were tasked to conduct an investigation into the demise of my late father and mother?" Why else would you be here. Mei knows the Law and the rules that my father set and I have not changed.

"Yes." Strauch confirmed. He reached into his bag and pulled out the scroll that he had show Lady Mnemon yesterday night. "I hope you had enjoyed your party last night."

He gave the scroll over to Lady Zara so she can read the content for herself. With so many signatures and stamps, its hard to deny the urgency the Inquisition placed on this investigation.

"We all know that foul play was involved in their deaths," the samurai grumbled, "What the Inquisition wants to know is whether or or not sorcery was involved."

This Drew a snort from Yang, who sat the Firelance down across his lap and began to polish it. "Magik...to my knowledge they were dispatched with blades, as Ironic as this is coming from me, murdering them with Magic would be just...disrespectful to two of such renown." He took time to polish the blued metal and lacquered metal, the light of the morning sun causing the Azimagh scrip enlayed in to the weapon to glint in the sun.

Bel Keraz

Keraz stood slowly and returned the bow, if not as deep, as befits the separation of rank and station between the two. "Well met, Chief Magistrate, please sit," said Keraz with a proffering of his left hand at a fine upholstered seat on the other side of his desk. Bel Keraz continued, "I have read your missive. I find some of the ideas have at least short term merit. I would like to hear things in more detail from your own mouth and mind. Please." Keraz nodded for Yeiji to seat and begin essentially one of the most important proposals in his entire career. Jiang, as befits his even lower station, would have to stand as was protocol.

House Vai's Imperial City Estate

Zara winced as Yang drew the firewand across his lap. Weapons among a meeting like this was not a sign of trust or respect. Especially among those at the table before Zara. Barisan continued to eat and was about to suggest silently that Yang remove the weapon from view when Zara spoke to Strauch after giving an acknowledging nod to Mei.

"The Party was pleasant." Thats a lie. Zara continued speaking without the slightest hint of doubt in her voice. Much like her late mother, Vastyana, "I appreciate the import that the Immaculate Order is giving the tragedy that has befallen my House and family. For that I must extend my thanks. As to your investigation of sorcery, you are welcome to search high and lo-."

A ring of fire appeared on the floor beside Zara. Yet, no surface burned. Better yet no heat came from the flames as a figure appeared in a plume of fire and smoke. Its body was seemingly made of fire and molten material. Like the surface of lava. Its eyes purple flame and it bore wings of white hot fire. Yet, it's body was about the size of a man's maybe bulkier.

Zara blinked but did not take her eyes off of Strauch. "This is Mephisto. Guardian of our Vaults." The flaming figure ran a golden coin between his right knuckles but said nothing. It's eyes seeming to latch onto Yang's firewand. "Weapons in such a meeting are reserved for the Guards at the door. I'll be relieving this affront." It's voice was rough and raspy. Like grating charcoal as it extended a hand. A sudden gust of force and the firewand was within Mephisto's grasp. Yet no damage to the wand seemed evident. No smoldering of its woodwork or blackening of its metal. It was as if Mephisto burned cold.

Zara rotated her head to Yang, "Mephisto is a stickler for etiquette Uncle. He will return it to you shortly."

Mephisto shrugged as he disappeared in a plume of smoke.

Without a word, Shi turned his back to the crowd in order to follow the pair of older Exalted. His eyes, ears, mind and heart are keen when it comes to observation and deduction, and he could see that within Eugeni's eyes is a flame of ever burning respect and admiration for the even older sorcery instructor. He could also see that Gregor himself seems to be an upright Dynast, an honorable and honest man who seeks to enlighten the few who wished to seek the secrets of sorcery. From the facial expressions of the majority of the students back in the courtyard, it seems that they weren't Exalted, and through the study of sorcery could they only repay their Houses back. Since childhood they were groomed to be destined men and women, Chosen of the Elemental Dragons but failed to receive recognition. Either they become statesmen as Patricians, or be swept away as second rate citizens or even worse. Shi held respect for those people, clinging onto the last bits of hope that they could find and make themselves still able to serve their House and the Realm.

Soon they found themselves upon private training grounds. It was smaller than the courtyard of course, but it provided a sense of security and privacy, as rare as it is for the Dragon-Blooded. With his hands to his cane, Shi's eyes darted quickly, taking the scenery into view as fast and as covertly as he could. As Gregor gave him a couple pointers, he nodded to him before voicing his own opinions. "In my own defense, Sir Gregor, my style is to incorporate the properties of water into my fighting style. It isn't just for show. For example, graceful movements and fluid swaying makes me quite agile on my toes..." His arms swayed as if they're seaweed dancing to water currents before his outstretched hand immediately struck out, hitting empty hair beside Gregor's head. With such strike came the sound of crashing waves, almost as if Gregor has just evaded a tidal wave. "Or my blows could be as swift and devastating as a surging flood. This kind of technique attunes me even more into the essence of the Water Dragon, and bolsters my spirit as an Aspect of Water. Still at times, graceful with gentle movements, yet hiding earthshattering strength behind quick strikes. That is the essence of Water." His voice brimmed of confidence, confidence in his craft and understanding of his own strength.

Eugeni - Pride and Spirit Are Poison and Potion

Eugeni was hopeful that Shi would demonstrate his worth as a student. He was glad that Dr. Gregor had not made him take his turn first, as he worried Shi would see him as an obstacle to overcome. Despite the younger Ledaal’s own skill and worth, he saw himself as his cousin’s servant, and he wanted him to be comfortable in his own skin. And yet Dr. Gregor still wanted him to demonstrate his own power. He waited, watching Shi show his powers as an Exalted. He was glad also to see Shi explaining his knowledge of his own powers. The young man was not a mindless puppet, but a knowledgeable champion-in-training.

Shi demonstrated his fluid movements, waving his arms in time with an invisible ocean around him. Of course, as an Exalted, that power was almost visible. The professor and Eugeni could both see translucent waters swirling and dancing along with their master, and the former braced himself as the water almost seemed to crash against him. Eugeni gasped, but the professor then demonstrated his own power. A pillar of fire roared to life next to him, and turned the water which nearly hit him into steam.

Even so, the older man gave the slightest smile. “...It is good to see the passion you hold for your abilities. It convinced me further...that you inherited a love of learning. And your skill with Water is impressive. Delicate, yet capable of rage, much like the sea itself. But every student has room to improve. Some weakness which keeps them from perfection. I sense that the same passion which drives you also hinders you. And for that reason, control must be your priority. Eugeni?”

As the professor motioned to Eugeni, the older Ledaal took center-stage. He smiled to Shi, and then closed his eyes. Centering himself, he allowed the Wind to pick-up around him. His hair and clothing began to ripple gently, like a flag on a breezy summer day. A pleasant sound began to gradually fill the yard, and the wind circled around Eugeni, the sound of birds singing. Robins. One small robin flew and sat on the fence. Then another. And another. Eugeni soon had a flock behind him, and he drew his daggers. The robins flew off the fence, circling around the Ledaal heir in a steady, melodic formation. He slowly drew his head back, eyes still closed, and he looked as though he was in a dream. Taking his daggers, he began to step around on his toes in various breeze-like patterns, drawing the wind around him as he did. He seemed to move almost like a Noh performer. The pond in the yard rippled, as did the robes of the two onlookers. Strong, yet graceful. As Eugeni performed a dance similar to the one he performed for the students, the robins chirped a cheery song around him, and the world seemed to center around him.

Then he made the dance quicker. His feet seemed to almost float off the ground, and the wind became faster. He looked at peace with himself, and thus his body seemed to move as though its motions were automatic, studied and memorized from much private practice. The wind almost began to shear the surrounding area, and the robins grew silent as they rose higher in the air. As he was turning, with his daggers in hand, he stepped forward in the direction of his teacher, and in a quick whirl, he stood inches from him, his dagger aimed at his chest. A moment later, the wind fell around him, and then died. He lifted his head, and looked up at his teacher. “...Was that satisfactory, professor?”

Dr. Gregor gazed down at him, his small smirk becoming wider as he saw the dagger at his chest. Eugeni had no intention to harm, and had probably added the pose for flourish, but he wondered why. Someone who controlled their emotions as much as the heir of House Ledaal must have had a reason. And yet he found the position he was in amusing. He touched the dagger’s sharp tip, all while staring at his student’s face. “...Yes. You performed well, as you always do,” he praised. A twinge of quiet pride showed in his voice as he spoke, as he saw his student perform his powers as an Exalted for the first time in years. Eugeni lowered his daggers and put them away, before walking to his cousin’s side. After his performance, his eyes were clear and meditative, and his voice seemed to be more like the wind. “...You did a very good job, Shi,” he whispered to his cousin.

His professor allowed his gaze to linger on Eugeni for a moment, and then he turned to Shi. “Your power as an Exalted must lead the dance, never your emotions. Otherwise, you shall cause destruction. You must show your strength, but you must never show wrath,” he explained. “Now...as for sorcery...It is the same concept, although is private and controlled power that is explicitly dangerous. What sort of spell do you wish to learn?”

Shi Enneal Iselsi-Ledaal

A snake's hiss resounded as Gregor's Anima flared, and the sound of spiritual waters crashing countered the heat and boiling steam around the two. A faint halo of blue green light surrounded Shi's head as his hair danced and swayed violently as if a current swept it away. His oceanic serpent anima might not have manifested but it's presence did. Shi retreated with his hand and he clasped his hands towards Gregor. "This student is honored with such words. I shall take it to heart and try to improve my shortcomings and flaws." His neutral voice called out as he stepped aside for Eugeni, but his eyes are turbulent with worries. Where did he go wrong? He was sure that his stances and style were honed to almost perfection. Gregor's words pointed towards his passion. Was his desire for pinpoint perfection the very thing that keeps him from perfecting himself?

As Shi's mind raged in doubt, his eyes watched Eugeni's dance, its grace and mysticality alluring. Eugeni's dance made him submit to the whims of air. Just like a gentle breeze picking up into a fierce gale, his movements were grand and swift, without weight in its execution. 'Am I not embodying my Aspect as I hope I could?' As his left hand held his cane, his right unconsciously twirled a finger around his white locks. Eugeni could see that Shi is troubled but is trying to keep it hidden. The visual cues of the younger Ledaal being disraught was immediately suppressed; his hand came back down, his eyes back into a still glimmering lake, and a gentle smile of acknowledgement as his dance was concluded. "Magnificent work as always, cousin." He claps his hands before standing back before Gregor with a resolute face. Indeed, Gregor pointed out that his power should lead his body, and not his desire. Water flows in accordance to its terrain. Water reacts, but water is not absolute in its form. Water can only be perfect when it is free, when it is unbridled as a stormy sea. "I understand, Sir Gregor. I shall strive my best to become as close to Water itself... Perhaps strive to become one with it, like the legendary Immaculate Dragons." He bows before him, not too low as his allegiance lies elsewhere. Shi rises up with a smile on his face. "I would like to learn the principles of illusion and shapeshifting. My skills and abilities are tailored for such paths, and I would like to learn more of it. If I am not destined for sorcery, then its application with Exalted magic is still a great opportunity."

Yang

He didn't offer and resistance to the mage as he confinscated Yang's longarm, only looking at him with a gaze that held daggers in his eyes. "Indeed, I implore you to not mess with the sights, I have them just were I want them." As the Mage poofed out of existence, he turned to Mei. "Ah, it is good to see you again, Bones."

He held no malice for the court mage, yet couldn't help but tease her so. "Please, Inquisitor, continue." He gave the man a wave of his hand as he retreived his flask and began to dive in to the food, still pouring some of the brew in to his morning drink, only to scowl at the realization it was Tea. He motioned for a servant and spoke to the young women, "Coffee please, as strong as you can make it."

Rouzen Terpischora,
Terpischora Manse, Morning

Laying sideways atop of her own bed roll with the covering blanket hung halfway off, Rouzen's porcelain legs and feet hung out when a timid knock placed itself on her sliding door. Without so much as blinking or twitching a muscle, Rouzen spoke nonchalantly but sternly with a slight tone of authority, "You may enter". Knowing full well it would be Xiao Mei, another one of the servant girls bringing her fresh robes and toiletries for Rouzen's bathing in the hot spring within the Manse grounds. Xiao Mei slid the door open, already folded onto her knee's out of respect and holding her head down wasn't even afforded the slightest glimpse up to notice her liege laying in bed still so vulnerable and relaxed. "Your toiletries, Lady Rouz- Lady Terpischora... As you requested." The sound of rushed footsteps beyond the hall and wheezing and coughing could be heard and after a brief pause of silence, dry heaving and choking.

The shy and light voice of Xiao Mei breaking the silence and uttering aloud for Rouzen to hear, "Lord Izadoro, my lady... His condition is worsening."

"It is... With impeccable speed and timing as well." Rouzen stated uncaringly which inspired a light gasp from the servant girl just before Rouzen continued.

"As soon as the new year began and just as he was charged with leading the Terpischora legionnaires. Its unfortunate." Rouzen ended which knowingly reinforced a sort of assurance to Xiao Mei that Rouzen wasn't relishing in his suffering despite the falsehood of such a presumption. "Leave them at the door, you're dismissed." Rouzen firmly stated which followed with a sliding clack of the wood meeting wooden seams. Rising from her bed roll, Rouzen slid off the remaining of her garments slowly and without haste. Stooping down to reach for the cleaned white robes and accessories that layed in the whicker basket. Erupting from her quarters, Rouzen glided across the polished wood of the Manse barefoot as any wood aspect would. Making her way to the stairwell at the manse's rear to pass Izadoro's quarter that was flooded with 4 other servants tending to him. Curled up pitifully in a corner, the grown man looked pale and sickly. A clearly fragile state in comparison to the proud marcher just days before. His eyes bagged and sunken with fatigue while his hair was oily and u kept. Before Rouzen had even passed his doorway, his eye's seemed to follow where she would be had the walls not impeded his sight and they met with hers as she came upon the door way's opening. As if in slow-motion, the deviant smirk across her face sent a shiver down Izadoro's spine. The devil winking at him as his life felt as if it were being torn from him, beads of cold sweat layered his palms and feet. He could only groan the weakest of gutteral noises, despite his urge to lift his arm and point, to reach, to wrap his hands around Rouzen's thin neck and ring it like a dirty cloth. As if his cousin were in his ear, he could hear her oh so clearly- the rasp tickle of breath against one's lobe...

"Nyctasha sits..."

While the servants continued to comfort their dying Lord.

Terpischora Manse,
Lower level.

Housed within the Manse below its ground floor was another set of rooms that mimicked the original design of the Terpischora manse in the southern land. Ranging from storage, armory, Bath House, and so on. Rouzen had made her way to the small still water spring that was nestled within this floor of the Manse, withdrawing firesalts and a plethora of herbs and other delicacies to include into her bath that were shelved away on the external reception hall of this spring. Dimly lit candles adorned the side panels of the hall and bounced their light off the same architectural textures of the Manse above. White lacquered stone walls lined and floored with intricate wooden layering. 2 large sliding doors that were much larger than those above save for the main hall hid their "treasure". The whicker basket now much heavier with the additional necessities, Rouzen didn't spare a moment in sliding one of the double doors open.

The room within was large and perhaps more grand than any other room within the Manse. The smell of rain water perpetrated itself throughout despite the impossibility of such an occurrence happening here naturally. Granite stone purchased from the finest of vendors and sculpted by the House's earth oriented allies. Even the braziers that held fire were ornate and delicate in their craftsmanship and placement as to not tarnish the fengshui. Aside from the stepping stones to the rooms center, the ground was covered in both soil and grass. Bushels of exotic flower ranging from species and size. In all sense of the word, this spring was natural save for the absence of natural light. In its center sat a wide maw of still water. Water that perfectly mirrored the ceiling, serene and glistening with purity, and with the addition of firesalts it would be the most ideal place for Rouzen to embellish her clean conscience and soul.

Hanging over the spring itself was a large wide but not very tall tree with branches that stretched and creeped across the ceiling as if it were holding the house up itself, even some that slightly hung over the spring itself. Across from it sat rooted an even smaller and younger tree in comparison. Older than Rouzen for certain but younger than its counterpart across the way. Barely blossoming and blushing it's leafy beauty. Itself barely reaching Rouzen's neck while standing. It was peculiar and undoubtedly supplementary to include this smaller mini redwood and somewhat confusing as to why none of the dynasts had come and preened it to its objective glory or purpose. It was almost off putting in a sense that it didn't match its older sibling that so boldly supported the manse's weight.

Without wasting a moment, Rouzen's robe dropped to the ground and exposed her full naked body. In isolation and privacy aside from the still bushels and 2 trees in audience. Becoming bare and reverting to the most natural and basic version of herself was akin to greeting the nature that shared her presence. The influx and euphoric feeling of energy swirling about the room. Like Sunflowers that open and raise to follow the sun, the bushels of exotic flowers did the same as if communing with their guest. As if a conversation was unfolding, purple, yellow, white, and any other combination of colors within the visible spectrum were represented by the blossomed buds of these flowers. Humming aloud for all to hear, Rouzen began to delicately speak back with them, like a forest sprite in the wood, or a dryad in the forest. The Terpischora dynast fluttered to the pool while the moist air around her slightly chilled and goosed her skin and hardening it ever so slightly. She continued humming while dropping and spreading the fire salts within the still pool and watched as the once still water began to ripple and bubble so lightly to the change of temperature.

As Rouzen began to sprinkle the herbs she gathered outside the room, she began to sing lightly and wisp the crowd with a song in Terpischora's high realm dialect. Rouzen however found herself drawn and focused on the pigmy tree that sat no further than 5 feet from the pool. She could feel and sense that despite its flimsy stalk and size, it's roots were deep and thick into the earth in comparison to its protruding self. Like an iceberg... But alive and small. Descending the craggy edges of the spring, Rouzen immersed herself fully and anghelically into its water. The feeling of warm water seeping into her pours and relaxing her tightened skin, followed by the silence and absence of sound as her ears went beneath the waters surface. She sat there for a long moment... Bringing silence to her surrounding and making silence a bridge to her melody that she sang so passionately to the life around her. Slowly she ascending while calmly catching her breath only to reach a crescendo in her lullaby, the flowers and all perking to continue the soothing experience they yearned for. Rouzen waded to the edge that held the smaller of the two trees and as if singing directly to it, as if seducing it with honeyed words and only it. She began to console it, ending her solo and asking its name.

"Kiji...? That's an adorable name." she whispered.

House Vai estate

“Good, good...” Strauch nodded in gratitude towards Zara’s hospitality. It wasn’t everyday an Inquisitor Captain received a warm welcome from a host. “I promise you the Inquisition will seek out the truth to the best of their ability. I have already sent a message last night to my fellow colleagues. Their expertise will greatly benefit my investigation.”

“And to answer your question, Lady Mnemon…” The old Samurai addressed the sorceress as he turned to face her. “It’s not my curiosity that you should be worried about. It’s the Immaculate Order’s. I did respect your wishes and have the book remain in your room, however, my duties as an Inquisitor Captain remains. Since it is ‘evidence’ now, other Inquisitors will have to review it as well. I already sent a letter to the nearby temples to brief them on the current situation.”

"I am proposing a series of measures that combine modest tax increases with spending cuts and ways to save money," Yeiji said. "With all due respect sir, our economic situation is absolutely dire and as such I don't think we are in a position to finance necessary infrastructure projects without some measures that might be a bit unpopular. Take for example my proposal for an increase in sales tax by 4% in shops in the capital. This will surely be an unpopular measure and some of the businessmen will surely complain. However, it is one of the few taxes we can effectively enforce. Let us not kid ourselves; the government is unable to raise taxes on the provinces. We cannot even expect full tax compliance with regards to already existing taxation. It is on the capital where the government retains its power and as such it is only here we can increase, in practice and not just in theory, taxation and, as a result, tax revenue. A 6% sales tax is a good way to increase our revenue. Is it a measure that can stand in the long term? No. Is it a measure that makes anyone happy? No. I do know that wages have gone down and that such an increase in taxation shall be a further burden on businesses. However, in the short term, it shall be beneficial. It will allow us to finance at least some of the infrastructure projects in the Satrapies and avoid unrest that can get out of hand. Once the fiscal situation has been stabilized, we can cut that tax back to normal levels."

Yeiji paused for a brief moment. "Secondly, I am proposing a spending cut of 2% in the wages of bureaucrats in our departments. As I've already explained, I am a proponent of short-term tax increases but we cannot raise taxation beyond a certain point; it will lead to economic recession and shall deprive us of revenue. As such, we need to find another source of revenue. That source is reallocating resources we already have in a more efficient way. We can reallocate money we spend on wages to finance partly the infrastructure projects. Will it cause some complaints? Yes. But it will be less damaging to the economy and the political stability of the Realm than abandoning our infrastructure obligations in the provinces. I am sure that our bureaucrats can understand our difficulties and can survive with a modest cut in their wage if the alternative is instability and, quite possibly, chaos."

"My next proposal is to use part of our military as free labor. Instead of paying for both workers and soldiers, and their maintenance, we can use the soldiers for labor. It will be a short-term solution of course. We cannot expect the army to withdraw from its duties and become construction workers. But we need them to do such a work for now. It is part of their duty after all; to guarantee peace and stability of the Realm. By aiding our efforts to revitalize the economy, they aid the Realm in regaining its stability."

Yeiji paused again for a brief moment. He watched the Vizier and smiled confidently; he felt that he was making a good impression so far. "My final proposal is that local strongmen should contribute to our infrastructure efforts. There are many rich private individuals in the provinces, many of them scions of the Great Houses. I am sure that they can contribute funds to help us in moving forward with our infrastructure projects. Of course, it would be naive to think they would help us out of... loyalty to the government. Instead, we must offer them incentives. Either 25% ownership of the revenue of such projects or a 25% share of tax revenue in the region, as those regions will benefit economically from such projects and will produce more revenue. We can also offer them tax relief for two years. I believe that this proposal of mine can motivate rich individuals in the provinces to fund our projects and save us a lot of expenses in the short term."

Yeiji motioned Jiang to bring to Bal Keraz some papers containing the exact expected revenue from those measures. He then continued; "Frankly sir, if you allow me to speak honestly, I think that my proposals can aid in the short-term but shall be ineffective in the long term. In order to ensure the long term fiscal sustainability of the realm, we need to do more than simply 'play' around with tax rates or spending. We need to ensure that the government can generate revenue from all its provinces; to do that we need internal peace, stability and a strong central government that can enforce the demands of the center on the provinces. If the country does not have strong leadership, it will crumble and such economic schemes such as mine cannot postpone that for too long. Unfortunately, with all due respect, we lack such leadership now. I apologize if I am being rude or blunt but it is something we can all see and there is no point hiding it due to decorum or protocol. Such luxuries are good for times of prosperity. For our times, we need bold action and initiative. We need to reinforce the administrative and military structure of our central government through bold reforms and to subdue the Great Houses to the Imperial Throne. We need to pacify our Satrapies and ensure that we are indeed a single, united Realm. We need action. I am terribly sorry if this last part of my speech is against decorum and I am willing to accept punishment for it; but we cannot just sit here and wait for the inevitable collapse."

Yeiji bowed before his superior: "I am willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the survival of this Realm."

Eugeni - A Shard of Glass A Glass Can Break

Eugeni was bashful as his cousin praised his work, though Dr. Gregor's own reaction was enough to make him surprised. He had seemed to lose his edge for a moment, as Eugeni had held the dagger to his heart, or perhaps he had something else on his mind and was not expecting the final movement of his performance. The older Ledaal had replaced his daggers, and had stood beside Shi, smiling encouragingly at him. Few people seemed to understand the turmoil that seemed to lie deep in the younger Ledaal's heart. The strife to be perfect, the struggle to overcome a distant past, the vulnerability beneath the thick ice of confidence and politeness. Eugeni figured he did not know his beloved cousin completely, but he tried harder than anyone to know him well. "Thank you...Take courage, Shi...He did say you are doing well, as well..." Eugeni whispered in return, his hair and clothing still rippling slightly.

Gregor took a moment to think, and then a grin came to his face. "...Ahhhhh, illusion and shapeshifting...Yes, such a classic trick. And perhaps easier than you might think. Or more difficult...Let us see, shall we?" He began to walk toward Shi, keeping his eyes focused on the boy's eyes. Oceans rising and falling, endless sunlight over murky depths, a drowning body rising to the surface. Images showed themselves before him, as he considered how to approach this spell. "Pay attention. Perhaps you can tell me...what makes for a perfect shapeshifting spell..." He snapped his fingers, and suddenly, the heat around him began to rise. Both Shi and Eugeni would feel themselves sweating, but before Shi could realize how hot the courtyard had become, the smoke had cleared and the heatwave was gone. Before him then stood two Eugenis.

"...Oh!" One of the Eugenis turned and faced the other one, blinking with confusion. He straightened his clothing, and the other one stared back, looking calmly and curiously at the other. Both of them had their hair and clothing rippling around them, and they both had the exact same gentle, thoughtful features. The same clothing. They both looked toward Shi, with one of the two hiding their emotions to test the boy. The real one was just confused, and hoping they would be easy to recognize by their own cousin. "...Quite the frightful spell, I would think..." One Eugeni murmured, glancing toward the other Eugeni with some worry.

Main Hall of House Vai Imperial City Estate

Zara steepled her fingers before her chest. Crossing her right leg over her left. "House Vai will of course welcome this effort made on behalf of the Immaculate Order in regards to their serious take on the matter. Now, is there anything else you wished to speak to me about." Zara took up her utensils once more and finished the last morsels of food on her plate while looking at Strauch. Finishing her breakfast with some nice hot tea and purified water.

Bel Keraz

Bel listened to Yeiji's words while slowing leaning back in his high backed chair. The cushions long broken in by the years of Bel sitting in the chair. Eyeing Yeiji and Jiang with glances, face impassive, very much giving the guise of a technocrat at heart. A technocrat with a heart of gold maybe. At least, Bel Keraz liked to think so, since he often sourced finances for the Empress without beating the peasantry with the bill as much as he could. Her Imperial Majesty was ever in need of funds for her various objectives in the constantly shifting agenda she created and maintained. Small wonder how she was a master manipulator who made her various descendant bloodlines prance and dance under her strings. Wonder what she would make of this now? Keraz picked up the papers presented to him.

Bel Keraz spoke to his aide off to the side, getting her attention with a raised finger, that he lowered once she readied paper and stylus. "Draw up an order that I will approve of a 6% increase in the sales tax." Bel Keraz's order was a confirmation that Yeiji's first piece of his plan was approved. Keraz turned his gaze back to Yeiji, "I will present your infrastructure idea about shared financing in exchange or stake in the revenue or profits to the Deliberative. I will however not approve a decrease in wages for now. Not until it is the last resort." Bel Keraz leaned forward with a raised finger.

"Your ideas are bold, short term more than likely fruitful, but I must caution you. The Great Houses are not one to take subjugation as a part of a government official's agenda lightly. Such words are dangerous to the one who utters them. Caution, Yeiji, will serve you best in trying time."

Leaning back in his chair Bel Keraz nodded. "I'll present this all to the Deliberative. Now, another matter while you are here. You mention the Satrapies. I trust you are aware of the Bull of the North and the danger he presents to our Northern Satrapies? Zara Azairya Vai is leading an expedition North to avenge our dear Regent's military catastrophe. Imperial forces will be marching along the army of House Vai and as such we need to prepare some discretionary funds be made available. What do you propose?"

Shi Enneal Iselsi-Ledaal

Shi raised his arms to cover his face and body from the heat wave, and almost steps towards Eugeni to protect him when the heat subsided. Now there are two Eugenis amid the smoke, both with the same expressions, the same clothes, and the same wind ruffled hair. The younger Ledaal blinked with momentary confusion, before he approached with eerily calm eyes filled with curiosity. His ear subtly twitched as he heard one of them comment about the implications of the spell. 'It's rather frightening as well... That one should be Eugeni but... what if that was just a ploy by the old man...' His lips curled up into a knowing smile as he stroked his chin, silently walking around. "It is almost perfect... especially when someone who is as close to the Lordmaster would assume this guise... My dear cousin clearly views you as his confidant, Sir Gregor, and I am impressed that you can even copy his little perks and mannerisms. But..." His next step around them sounded less of a boot hitting the floor and more of a drop of water falling inside a secluded cave, it's crisp plop echoing across the walls. Shi softly raised his hand and pointed in the air, his sea foam blue green essence rippling forth like ocean waves. The Children of Daana'd are well known for their sharp and investigative eyes, and the essence of water both conceals and reveals. As the ripples travelled through the air, Gregor's spell is slightly disrupted, his frame wavering back and forth from Eugeni and his own before stabilizing after two breaths of time. Shi smiles at the two of them as a faint halo of sea foam colored light slowly dissipates around his head. "That was an interesting spell. I was almost fooled for a moment."

Shi smiles at the two of them as a faint halo of sea foam colored light slowly dissipates around his head. "That was an interesting spell. I was almost fooled for a moment."

Eugeni - His Professor Knows Him Too Well

Both Eugeni’s gazed at Shi with waiting, worried eyes, their expressions otherwise serene. If Shi had been spooked at all, he would have had a reason to feel uncomfortable. Gregor was copying his mannerisms far too well, down to how often the older Ledaal heir blinked. Both of them gave him a sweet, caring smile as he approached, but they each remained silent. They both knew that speaking too much could give away the identity of the other, and the true Eugeni knew that Dr. Gregor was trying to test his younger cousin.

Shi could not tell from simply looking at either of them, but instead he tapped into his Exalted powers to try and determine who was the fake Eugeni. They both watched with the same wonder, as Shi used his Water Aspect to create sea foam ripples through the air. As delicate as the technique was, it managed to catch a glimpse of Gregor as being the ‘Eugeni’ to the right, the one who had not spoken. As soon as Shi’s Aspect had done its work, Gregor laughed softly, his voice still his student’s melodic one. Now he was simply demonstrating. “...Very good, Shi. It would have been harder just using your instinct...Being an Exalted gives you another way to investigate illusions. That was very clever...”

The professor walked toward Shi, as the true Eugeni made a sigh of relief. Yet he remained attentive to the lesson his teacher was giving. The lesson was a dangerous one, but handy for someone like Shi. “...What you see is not a casual illusion, my dear cousin, but one to be used during reconnaissance, during infiltration, and during assassinations. Imagine if your closest loved one held a dagger to your neck...” He drew a dagger and held it in Shi’s face. “...Would you believe that your kindly, stargazing cousin would ever threaten you in such a way?...Maybe not you, but someone else...and thus a poison spreads...”

He put away the dagger, and then, with a flash of flames, he changed back to his normal form. He gave a reassuring smile to Eugeni, who had gasped and waited anxiously as Dr. Gregor had pulled a dagger. “...The spell is nearly perfect for several reasons. This allows you to get into the mind and body of a person. Anyone can disguise as someone else, but they do not always know how that person will react. Perfect Disguise, on the other hand, gives you a disguise with all of the person’s feelings and thoughts. It still helps, however, to know a person very well. After all, what if you break the conditioning and say something they would not say?...Now you have aroused suspicion,” the professor explained.

Eugeni walked back to his cousin’s side, looking up at his professor as he passed him. Dr. Gregor gave him a knowing smile, one that revealed a shared understanding between the Noble and his teacher. Thus, Eugeni took a breath, and he held his arms in front of him, hands clasped. The Wind rippled and became thick, much like fog. When it cleared, Eugeni had become Dr. Gregor. He gave Shi a firm glare, and folded his arms across his chest. “...In order to understand the spell, you must alter the reality of your own self. You must accept that you are this person, not yourself, and you must think as they. Infuse such a new reality with your Magic, and you get the Perfect Disguise spell...”

As Eugeni explained in Dr. Gregor’s place for a moment, he looked over to the real Dr. Gregor, who watched the entire proceeding with amusement. Eugeni was calm and firm enough to act the part of his teacher, but when he looked at Shi, he showed an affectionate smile, patting his head. “...Unfortunately, I am not very good at this...when it comes to you, my little cousin whom I love...You also have to be able to hide your own emotions...but this can be a lesson...on how to not act when you are in disguise!” Eugeni turned back, the wind breaking around him as his smaller, younger countenance reappeared. He continued to pat Shi’s head, and he turned back to face Dr. Gregor.

“...Now...Do you have any questions, Shi?” the teacher asked.

Shi Enneal Iselsi-Ledaal

Shi listened intently as he tried to digest the situation before him. While the two men seems to be demonstrating a rather advance spell, it seems that such a spell is something that Shi could work on. It is highly compatible with the element of Water, with its mercurial nature and fluidity. The fluid state of mind and form can be easily achieved with enough practice, but as Shi calculated it would take quite a toll for his Essence. Such advance spell wouldn't be that cheap to reproduce after all. Shi nodded as the lecture went on, thinking about how one must abandon the self in order to recreate the spell. Their face and their mind isn't their own but their target. "I think... I think I get it... Thank you for your lessons, good sir." He clasps his hands towards Gregor and bows once again before rising up. "I believe I've gotten the gist of the subject... It seems that I must be as fluid and changeable as water itself... Thank you so much for your insights. However, I do believe that my cousin would like to stay for a little bit before we leave these premises. Perhaps some words with an old friend?" Shi smiles at Eugeni and winks, clearly seeing the looks they give to each other.

Shi smiles at Eugeni and winks, clearly seeing the looks they give to each other.

Eugeni - Possibly Needs More Friends

Dr. Gregor was pleased by Shi’s politeness and eagerness to learn, and gave a nod as he agreed to further study the technique. “Good. I will be eager to see your progress. I have no doubt that you may return in the future with questions, as most good students do. However, you do have a handy resource right in your own home. One who has collected far, far too many books,” he answered, with a low chuckle. Eugeni knew his teacher was talking about him, and he blushed as he looked toward the ground. Then Shi mentioned that Eugeni wanted to stay and talk, and Dr. Gregor gave a puzzled look. “...Hm?...What do you mean?...” The wink was another implication, and while Eugeni blushed harder, the professor’s frown turned into an indignant glare. “I hope you realize that I saw that. What is so funny and pertinent? I do like a good joke, young man.”

Eugeni’s flustered gaze zipped back and forth between Shi and Dr. Gregor, and he turned back toward his cousin with a whirl. “...Perhaps I can take a chance to talk...Why don’t you wait with the guards?” he murmured. His Wind Aspect lifted Shi gently off the ground, and brought him to the guards on the other side of the open door. The door closed, and the older student turned back to Gregor, who was now baffled. “...I...I am sorry for that, Doctor, I-”

“What is the real reason you came back here, Eugeni?” Dr. Gregor inquired, slowly and gravely. He held up a hand and snapped his fingers, and his coat appeared next to him in a wisp of crimson flames. He put it on, the fabric untarnished by the fires, and he wiped some dirt off his shoulders and arms. “...I know you value your cousin’s education...but using his education as an excuse to talk about private matters is ridiculous.”

“...Yes, I know...” Eugeni’s eyes flickered to the flame, and then to the way Dr. Gregor threw on his coat without taking his eyes away from him. He was neat, dignified, and gruff, a distant man who did not make friends easily. Eugeni was still his treasured student, in his eyes, but Dr. Gregor did not like other people lying or making fronts. They caused him to be distrustful. “...It has been...five years since we spoke, yes?...” he muttered, nervously.

The professor nodded, folding his arms just as Eugeni had done with his disguise. “...You graduated, and your parents had a marriage arranged for you. I imagine that fell through?” he inquired, without a hint of surprise.

“...Yessir...they called-off the marriage...”

“Ahhh...Don’t tell me you came back to me for relationship advice, Eugeni. You know I am not that kind of man,” Dr. Gregor groaned, with a deep sigh.

Eugeni paused, uncomfortable with his professor for the first time. He had always approached him as an eager student, or as a young man speaking to an older, much wiser man about topics like politics and philosophy. Now he approached as someone different, older himself and yet still relatively bright and unchanged by time. “...I remember you told me once about your relationships...”

“Yes, I was thoroughly intoxicated on subpar sake, if you do not remember. And none of those relationships lasted, because the women I dated or almost married turned-out to be harpies who wanted my money,” he answered roughly. “And that is why I will never attend a University Party ever again. So what do you need to know?...What caused her to leave?...”

“...She...Her parents said...I had no social skills...I had no understanding on how to please a woman...And she deserved a Noble who was more of a man...” he repeated, remembering how painful the words had been to hear. She was actually a girl he liked quite a bit, with a cheery personality and a glittering smile. She would have been an excellent counter to his bookish, quiet disposition. And yet her parents could not wait for him to finish at the Heptagram.

The heat in front of Eugeni flashed for a second, and he heard a whisper in his ear. “...Those are the words of a family who believes they can be choosy about the futures of their progeny.” The young Ledaal shuddered, and he looked up to see Dr. Gregor looking down at him, with his hands on his shoulders. He took a thumb and ran it down Eugeni’s cheek. “...You started crying. Why do you cry over a woman whose family only would have given you trouble?...”

“...Because I...I think I did love her...” Eugeni murmured, now looking down at Gregor’s shoes. “...For the first time, I think I loved a girl my parents had chosen...and that opportunity is gone...Because of who I am...” He was trying to hold himself and his dignity together, but relationships were his one true failure, and that failure stung him like a blade to the heart. He was prestigious and a prize to be won, not a person meant to fall in love and have a conventional life. He hated this reality, but he had always tried to accept it with grace and hope. But Dr. Gregor knew better.

“...Eugeni...How do you spend thirty years of your life ignorant of the fact that most people, Nobles included, are, in fact, irredeemably stupid?” the professor asked, his sharp comment laced with sympathy. “...Rich and fabulous people cheat on each other and promise nothing but empty hearts and empty beds. Why do you think I did not marry Hua-Lei? Because she would have drained me dry for pleasure, and would have left with my money. Even as an Exalted, power does not immediately mean others will be responsible or sensible...Have you contacted that little girl you met in my class?”

Talia. He recalled her pretty, chestnut-shaped face, inquisitive hazel eyes, and long, silky black hair she liked to throw over her shoulders. The lovely daughter of a Patrician, working her way to becoming a respectable member of society. She had approached classes with a mindset similar to his own, with rolled sleeves and a dreamy daze as she thought about the theories surrounding Magic. Dr. Gregor had recommended her to him before, at first because of both students’ lack of relationships, and then because he had observed them falling in love from afar. Now she was...somewhere, and Eugeni still had residual feelings for her.

“...I supposed not. Perhaps I can find her, and let her know that you’re still on the shelf,” the professor suggested, giving a wink. “But you should not give up hope. You haven’t been burned as many times as I have, and you are still young enough to marry some lucky girl. Take care of yourself, and the day will come.”

Eugeni finally gave a semi-confident smile, and looked up at his professor’s eyes. He did not speak for half a minute, and the professor gazing down at him wondered if the boy had some other question. “...Thank you, sir...I...I will await her response eagerly...” he answered, reaching for his professor’s hand and squeezing it. “...I hope she will recall who I am...After all, you did...”

Dr. Gregor gave a smirk. “...That’s because you were my top student...and you decided to just drop by to see me...I ought to let you come teach these children a lesson one day...You would like it...” he muttered, his firm tone warming a little. “...I have to admit, classes are a little quieter without you asking questions every fifteen minutes...” he mused, “I actually have students now who sleep in class, and not because they studied all night.”

“...I shall take that invitation, whenever you would be willing to have me...but...I must go back to my cousin, and I must make sure he had not disappeared into the void...” Eugeni answered, his voice slow and barely concealing his hopefulness over finding Talia again. Yet his smile showed, and his Wind Aspect caused him to float an inch or so off the ground. His professor chuckled, but the Ledaal heir hopped back to earth, bowed, and waved. “...Farewell, Professor, I shall visit again sometime soon!” he finished, before he walked to the closed doors.

His professor nodded, watching Eugeni leave. When he left, he took off his shoes, and he took a key out of the sole. He walked to the brick wall of the building in the courtyard, and he entered the key into a hidden hole. As the door clicked open, another door closed behind him, and the professor entered a dark, intimate sanctuary far below.

***

“I am so glad you enjoyed your lesson, Shi! I felt that would help you plenty, and now you have more theories to practice and study,” Eugeni greeted his younger cousin. He had a light smile on his face, as a result of talking to his professor. “But before we go home, I would like to go to a particular part of the city to go visit...well...a rather sick person. If you do not mind, you can come with me, and help me to comfort this person in their time of need,” he suggested. He looked bright and willing to go find this person, energized by the idea of finally marrying someone he loved. Shi did not have to know, nor did anyone else, for now. She was no second-rate citizen in his eyes.

Maybe he could indeed find love and get married.

Shi Enneal Iselsi-Ledaal

The younger Ledaal's laughter echoed through the courtyard as he saw his cousin become flustered and was forced to lift him off and away as the two proceeded with a more intimate conversation. Shi somersaulted through the air and landed down with much grace and agility as one would expect from one of the Exalted. With his back to the closed door, he closed his eyes as he addressed the guards around him. "...Keep your eyes out to the door and to the hallway. A pair to the hallway and the rest with me." The Ledaal retinue of security saluted with a fist to their chests and answered in unison. "As you command, Exalted Lord!" With not a single bit of reaction, Shi kept his hands to his unassuming cane with numerous thoughts spiralling through his mind. The wellbeing of Eugeni, the future of House Ledaal and the broken House Iselsi now that the Scarlet Empress is missing for years, his training almost done and finished, and the near engagement with the Bull of the North. The Bull presents an opportunity and challenge for the young scion of the two Houses. This surfaced Anathema would be the first step to Shi's ascend to better prestige in House Ledaal, and to hone his abilities for the better. If he could participate and lead House Ledaal's forces, and return alive and victorious, then it would be his first major martial accomplishment for the House. With better resources and better station, he could climb higher and higher, and perhaps one day he could help rebuild his mother's House once the Empress returns with their pardon. Until then, he would serve this side of his family. He would repay every debt he had in kind, whether it was a debt of kindness or a debt of cruelty.

Shi stood on guard until the end of the two men's discussion. As the doors opened, a warm smile flashed on his face as Eugeni emerged from the private courtyard and his eyes flickered open, the thousand colors of the seas, lakes, and rivers reflected upon them. "I hope I didn't make it awkward for you, Lordmaster." He step aside as Eugeni moved, and then fell in line beside him. "Of course, of course. I will follow where my Lordmaster desires to." He stayed silent as they walked through the premises, the silent corridors and echoing halls. Soon he spoke as he made sure no one is following them. "...Eugeni, I have something to tell you. We weren't in the Deliberative meeting yesterday because well you were busy with your personal studies but... I've heard that House Vai will be leading forces alongside other Houses into the north. An Anathema called the Bull of the North has surfaced and... I've thought... perhaps I should go in the name of the family and your honor. I've... I've thought that perhaps this is a way to... improve myself and reach higher and closer towards the skies."

Eugeni - Is A Lover and Not A Fighter

Eugeni had entered back into the inner sanctum of the philosophy building's halls, as he had walked inside from the courtyard, and he had worn a slight blush on his face. He had suppressed his excitement, as he did not want for Shi to find his surprise until it had manifested. The older Ledaal had smiled tenderly as Shi apologized to him, and he had shaken his head. "There is no reason to worry, my sweet cousin. We had a lovely conversation, and I look forward to many more. Now...we must hurry carefully. A man from House Terpischorda is ill, and the cause may have been Magical. I wish to go and to see if I can aid him in his time of need," he explained, his voice hushed to avoid drawing attentive ears to their conversation. As loyal as he was to his own family, Eugeni hated to see the less fortunate and less powerful suffer, and House Terpischorda was not a major House. He figured doing a kind deed for one of their leaders would simply be that, a kind deed. Even as he knew that kind acts often built warm and trusting allies.

He had begun to walk with spry steps, as he had set his mind toward helping this noble-in-need, when Shi stopped him to reveal a secret desire of his own. A battle was brewing against the Anathema in the North, and Shi wanted to join that effort. Instantly, Eugeni stopped walking ahead, and his cheery smile became a shocked smile. He turned his gaze to his younger cousin, and his posture had become tense and uncertain. "...You...wish to join the fight against the Anathema...in the name of our family?...Oh...Shi..." he answered, fear coating his voice. "...The Anathema are far more powerful and fickle than us, and even in the service of House Vai...you would be in direct danger...My little cousin..." He held his face in his hands and stared at him. "...I understand that...you want to rise to prominence...but...I must keep you safe...That was the vow I made for you, many years ago...How would you fight such a dangerous being, and with what?..."

He had been told by his parents about the meeting at the Deliberative, but he had not thought much of it today. He had wanted to meet with the Professor and to spend the day training with his little cousin. Now that same cousin wanted to go to war, with or without Eugeni. The older Ledaal had decided this action would not do without more delayed calibrations. He kept his hands around Shi's cheeks, as though doing so would protect him from the outside world, from the cruel people who could attempt to kill him. He oftentimes forgot that Shi was supposed to be his own bodyguard, as Eugeni himself was not much of a fighter even as a capable Exalted. "...You must tell me...I cannot...simply let you go into battle...searching for glory among strangers..."

Shi Enneal Iselsi-Ledaal

"I am not a child anymore, cousin..." He forces as smile as he can see that Eugeni is doting over him once again. Throughout the latter half of his years, how could he not know that Eugeni was behind all the little bits of kindness after the harsh and gruelling training days? How could he not know that after the beat downs and wounds, it was Eugeni who would instruct servants to come and wash Shi's wounds with medical salves and ointments? However, he knew that one day adventure would call. He couldn't always be beside his master, but he knew that he must carry Eugeni's name with him. The Dragon Blooded were created for war, after all, and the Realm was built beneath the spoils of war and for the Exalted who made a living with war.

"I am a man grown now. I am now twenty and must serve the House. Surely someone with my eagle eyes, owl ears, and precise aim should be leading our family into honorable battle, right? I am an Exalted... I am of House Ledaal... It is my duty to the Realm that I'd fight against these monstrous remnants of the past age. I have my cane, my daggers, my bow and arrows... And I have myself, if you won't join me..." He gives him a sad smile. "If you won't come with me then... I hope you can welcome me back with a smile. I was also hoping to ask you to make me something special for the war... It struck me when I was watching you and Sir Gregor demonstrate transformative magic and... I would have wanted to commission a Moonsilver weapon of my own with our sorcerer-smiths. Perhaps it could help give me an edge on the battlefield..." He chuckles softly as he holds his hand. "...But if such a request couldn't be done before the expedition then... hold onto it for me..."

Eugeni - Family Means Nobody Gets Left Behind

Shi's reminder of his age hit Eugeni in the heart like a sharp stone. His eyes widened a little, and he realized that he was babying the cousin he had raised to be strong and independent. He had watched him through so many battles, through his painful teenage years, and through the course of his studies. He had spent all of that time making sure that Shi knew he was loved and kept healthy, and now he was starting to see the fruits of his labors. The once insecure and fearful young waif had grown into a confident Exalted, a determined student who had bled his sweat through the night. Now he wanted to go battle a force much stronger than himself, and Eugeni was afraid that all of Shi's progress could be shattered by a mortal injury. He trembled, and after a few moments, he gave a shaky nod.

"...Yes...yes you are grown...And you have grown-up in front of my eyes...I have tried to nurture you into a self-sufficient Exalted and young man, and I can only hope...I have done my best...I do not wish to lose you, little cousin...You are like the little brother I always wanted..." He pulled Shi close, and hugged him, cradling his head against his neck and patting his back. "...But...if I can somehow keep you safe...and make sure that you come home safely...then I shall join you..." He thought about the goals he had set before himself. His desire to find Talia, to reconnect with his beloved teacher, his desire to continue his studies on magical medicine...He would have to put these things on hold, in order to go fight the raging threat of the Anathema. Eugeni was not a fighter, either, despite being one of the most powerful people in his realm, and he would have to remain as support unless he was absolutely needed on the front lines. Yet Eugeni knew he could not let Shi go alone. He would be throwing his most beloved relative to the unknown wolves in the North.

"...We will go visit House Terpischorda...and then...I shall work all night to make your weapon...and perhaps some armor...I shall make you something, anything...and I shall accompany you..." Eugeni tried to imagine how he would make a weapon with Moonsliver, and within a single night. He would have to rush, and to use the rest of the day's hours, all the way into the early morning hours, in order to make anything. He hated to rush, but he would do anything for his cousin. He gulped, and Shi would feel the nervous swallow against his cheek. "...I will do my best...I will...And we will both come home safely...you and I..." he murmured, rocking Shi in his arms. He was trying not to cry, but he was shivering. Just a night ago, he was dreaming about the future, and now the future would crash into them like a burning chariot, potentially blasting everything to smithereens if they were not careful.

Rouzen Terpischora,
Terpischora Manse, Underground Spring.

https://youtu.be/KSfA0i6Typw

The waves of the pool split against Rouzen's bare back as she propelled herself back slowly and wrapped itself back around her figure. Just as her body slowed from the water's resistence her left leg emerged like a smooth porcelain Isle and parted the water with her foot pointed towards the tree known as Kiji.

"Whooooooo...." Rouzen began to hum and sing in tandem. Her mind thumping with an almost tribal sounding metronome that began to tick and beat to set the rhythm. She fluctuated and rose and dove in pitch ever so slowly but noticeably to the audible sensory. This time, unlike others, Rouzen began to project her anima through her voice. As was her gift. She needed to convince and seduce the Kiji tree that a life consigned to this darkened room and sustained only through the magical means of sustenance imposed by the exalted caretakers that would come to visit Kiji in intervals... Like a scheduled prisoner taken from their natural environment and consigned to a 6 by 10. I mean in comparison to what a tree sprite would truly be used to. Her anima began to excrete itself from the pores on her back as inky lines began to stretch above her into the space of a banner. Collecting itself into a murky pool darker than the Darkest corner within the room that was untouched by the brazier's light. Rouzen's vocals carried nk linguistic value to a human other than hair raising heights and tone, but to the sprite Kiji, its essence was being caressed and embraced with affection and promise. The promise to roam freely and learn of the worlds secret's in a much more hands on way than its older sibling that sat idely across from it in covetous envy.

Rouzen had continued to push her vocals as her collected essence grew and stretched out into its recognizable humanoid like form. Much larger and wider than herself but without looking at it or acknowledging it; as if she was more than away of its presence and state she began a cackling like yitting that sorted itself as almost a bridge to infer its introduction. The weight of the water against her submerged breast had acted as a sort of guard that applied weight to her voice and vibration to the water, but she rose up on her feet and she'd herself of the burden and gave her voice its respected space. The metaphorical drum thumping in full fury.

"Eyeeeeuhhhh Ye'e'e'e'eruhyuhhh"

Water driplets were gliding off her body as her anima maintained stringent lines to her shoulder blades and wrists. Her hands pointed outwardly with her hands cusped with all fingers pointed below her extended thumb. Her anima had backed itself into the trunk of the larger tree as if entirely ignoring its presence and like a giant dark cloud shrouded it's presence from all life in the room. Rouzen waded towards the Kiji tree while her anima slowly shrunk itself to what would look like a child sitting on one of its larger branches while holding onto Rouzen. If any unwanted onlookers were present, they'd notice the elongated snout of the shadowy anima and the rack of its antlers. Cratered eyes that looked affectionately upon Rouzen, as Japetto looked onto pinnochio.

As Rouzen spoke in song to Kiji, her vocals continued to flourish and dive as her anima was let loose upon the unsuspecting spirit. Drawing out the finer details of its contract, the contingencies and expectations of servitude and expectation for both herself and it. At times, her voice would rasp and gnarl with an almost tribal urgency to what the outside world held and the merciless nature of herself as to not string Kiji along with omission or lies. The larger of the iron oak trees was visibly receding with its conjecture and lack of blessing to the ordeal, however the Anima played along its branch and vine and swirled around it with contempt. Rouzen in turn reached forward toward the Kiji's small branches as if extending for a hand shake. Tar like tears were running down her cheek and falling off her face only to dissipate before touching the water, but the Dynast smiled. A true expression of her anima that brought tears of joy and happiness, a euphoric experience that she rarely indulged.

With her hand extended towards the tree, a brief pause ensued and brought a silence unlike before to bear. Rouzen began to hum lightly to break it and infer that she awaited a response. Shortly after a couple beats, the Kiji branch obliged by turning a branch ever so slowly to her palm and laid it it in her grasp. Smiling as a mother would looking at her own newborn, with pure intention and affection, Rouzen brought herself from the warm waters in full and began to slowly pull at the iron oaks composition. With almost forceful mannerism, she began to tap into its essence and coerced the Kiji tree to compress into itself. She began to shape it, she rescinded its roots unto itself and compacted the small tree. Pushing the molecules and density of bark and branch ever so masterfully as to not even leave the slightest space for the least bit of air. Layer upon layer, Kiji twisted and wrapped unto itself, the process so quick and full that it didn't feel the compression of rune or Rouzen's craft hands etch the symbol of binding nor the tiny inscription of Izadoro's name in its small center so small you'd need a magnifying glass to see. A true master of her craft, with only the tunnels of where its roots once lay left as evidence of its presence. As per arranged, the Kiji sprite began to cannibalise itself and make room. Making a flickering mockery of its previous moment. It would preside in starvation and hunger for but the day until Rouzen brought it the essence it needed.

A Small wooden personage sat next to the pool. Hunched over, not but 3 foot 10, or 117cm. It's head hanging low for this hunger was like nothing it had ever felt. Rouzen had wrapped her arms around its small waste, the smooth and hardened bark of iron oak pressing against her soft and supple skin. The larger iron oak bending in grief as the anima that once prodded it pulled itself back into its host. Rouzen had stepped on the granite stones and retrieved her coverings and made her exit. Only the flowery brush and iron oak as witness to the deed that had unfolded.

Not 3 stories above them, Izadoro was convulsing and bending backwards on his bed roll in pain and agony. Drool lightly running from his agape mouhh while his eye's had rolled backwards for 25 minutes but to him an eternity. The servants in a panic, racing to and fro to retrieve what they thought would ease his suffering. Luciano peering at his son, with grief and disappointment that he knew not what to treat his boy with. His son's life flashing before his very eye's. The days of ostracised attention and stern discipline... Regret of an absent or u attentive father.

Daesh, standing in the courtyard. He was the only one of the house to witness this little wooden thing and Rouzen making their way to storage where she began to wrap and bag this small object.

"Daesh...!" Rouzen Called out. Jolted by her calling, her admirant came. Standing above her and peering through his ceremonial Terpischora mask. Perhaps she did not see his joyousness, perhaps Rouzen did.

"I need you to take this to my quarter, and let no one lay eyes upon it. Can you do this for me?" She asked rhetorically. But without pause, her loyal guardsmen nodded his head and pulled the large doll over his left shoulder and began carrying it.

"It's very important to me... That nobody see it or be near it. Stand guard and ensure that none cross its intersection." she added. "At sun down, place it next to the spring in the lower level. Let none pry, beloved.

Turning back for but a moment, it was clear. Daesh would let none near or pass her quarter for the remainder of the day. The ending comment of endearment ringing repeatedly in his thoughts.

Shi Enneal Iselsi-Ledaal

"You of all people should know that rushing an artwork would only make it substandard... But I thank you, Lordmaster. Let's leave the work to our trusty sorcerer-smiths. When we come back, your father and mother would welcome you with newfound joy that their recluse son has finally set out in the name of the Realm, and I'd be welcomed by the arms of my fanboys and a weapon to protect you." The outcome of Eugeni finally leaving his cave of books and scrolls is somewhat unexpected, but it is within Shi's expectations. Eugeni is not much of a man of martial ability; he is a magician who would rather research through the first century of his life and be safe from the evils of the world. There is nothing wrong with that as many Ledaals are dedicated bookworms and scholars, but someone with Eugeni's station is expected to contribute to the efforts of the family on not just academic pursuits but also on war efforts. "I will also keep you safe, my cousin... Do not worry too much... We will not be alone in the battlefield, and our House will be beside us... Support me from my back and I will support yours as well... We are Exalted. We are chosen above many. We won't fall as long as we seek death actively with reckless abandon."

The younger man held the older Ledaal scion by arm's reach, patting his cheeks as he could see that tears are welling inside Eugeni's eyes. "What is a mere Anathema before the brave armies of the Scarlet Empress? Cheer up. When we get home, let's talk to uncle and auntie about our decision and let's visit the smithies and leave requests on our major equipments. We could make something simple daggers and arrows but... I believe magical equipment for you and me isn't something to be done within a day and a night's work... Come, let's visit House Tepischorda. I hope you'll be properly accepted into their halls."

Eugeni - Potions and Pills

Eugeni nodded as Shi told him to leave the work to the sorcerer-smiths, but he could not help but feel the need to make something for his little cousin. He had used his skills in alchemy only in experiments and trials. Now was a chance to use those skills for a real, tangible purpose. Now, he could truly demonstrate the practical uses of his powers. Maybe he really could keep his little cousin, and others, alive, despite the terrors of war. “...Yes...I will support you...I will make sure nobody hurts you...My little cousin...” He tried to wipe the tears himself, but Shi beat him to it. Eugeni was not embarrassed to cry, but he would stop crying for his cousin’s sake.

“...Yes...To House Terpischora, first...then to home...” he reminded Shi. He and his cousin then walked onward to their next destination. The guards circled around them, making sure that nobody was able to attack them at any moments, but they faced no opposition as they reached the mansion of House Terpischora. Eugeni approached the gates alone, however, and spoke to the guards. “Greetings! I am Eugeni Ledaal, Heir of House Ledaal. I wish to enter and to examine the condition of a certain Isadoro? I have heard he is gravely ill, and I believe I may be of some help,” he explained.

Terpischora Manse,
Front Gates.

The walled Estate in itself wasn't grand in comparison to the other dynastic houses on its exterior, the large darkened oak of its double doors encrusted with the characters depicting ownership, within the center of an engraved circle that was more magically pressed than etched with a blade. A short walk away from the road itself were the heightened walls of stone that were overtaken with overgrowth of vine and flower, more casing and defensive for the wood aspect than the stone itself. At its front stood 3 guards in an almost triangular formation of design, 1 on each left and right and one centered closer to the gate itself. The Manse itself was a 4 story building that stood easily above its walled exterior, partitioned into east, west, and north sections with an obvious indentation of architecture for what would be its courtyard.

As Shi and Eugeni approached, it was not with stern repel nor aggressive demand. It was met by the two side guards stiffening as per etiquette and the center guardsmen stepping forward. The guards were adorned with robes that lay under their pauldrons and cuirass. A deep purple cloth and polished metal. Their helmets were open and exposing of their face, almost conical but upon closer inspection it would be seen it was only their visor's pointed upwards. With not even the slightest inch toward his weapon, the centered guard stepped forward almost excitedly.

"Forgive me Lords! Ledaal you say??" almost stuttering to himself as he responded. "Tis a great honour to recieve you, I will inform our Lord Luciano of your arrival at once. Please, please come in." he would turn back and motion for the other two servicemen to push open both doors to recieve the honoured guests. "Follow me, please." he requested eloquently with his head pointed towards Both Eugeni and Shi's feet, not daring to look either in the eye. As both the esteemed guests were lead in, the groaning of the gates would be heard closing behind them while in front of them was a short but decorative walk way of bricked Road and lined with small statues just shorter than themselves of aspects of the immaculate order. Behind them would be shaped shrubbery in exquisite but abstract designs and bushels of exotic flowers from the southern lands. Hues of green and yellow, some multi colored and spiraling in their blossom. At its conclusion, the road would lead to an open space lined with wooded benches and whicker baskets and a single somewhat exotic looking tree at the center of the courtyard. The tree almost as tall as the Manse, but shading a great portion of the courtyard with leaves of deep purple and bark so brown that it looked metallic.

"Please wait here for just a moment, I will inform Lord Luciano of your arrival!" the guard stated while shuffling off to the center north building and entering its hall. Eugeni and Shi would be left waiting for not more than 5 minutes when an older man who appeared as if he was perhaps 60 appeared from the north arches alongside a small cadre of servants, both male and female. In nothing but a somewhat luxurious silk robe of navy and grey, slicked gray tinged black hair, and a look of bewilderment, Luciano descended the 4 steps of the central Manse and spoke across the courtyard to Eugeni and Shi.

"My goodness, forgive me Lord Eugeni! I had not been aware you had intended to make a visit, if I had I surely would've prepared a meal refreshment prior to your arrival!" his hand outstretched forgivenly as he stride toward the two and reached his hand outward to greet Eugeni of House Ledaal and then to Shi before quickly averting his gaze to Eugeni again. "I feel ashamed and pray by the order you forgive me this slight and allow me to rectify it. Asira, please, fetch us some Autumn lotus tea! From the fine stock, on the top shelf, hurry." he ordered to a servant that quickly scurried off. Behind him was a thin man with long hair holding nothing but a pen and some parchment but had yet to begin writing anything alongside 2 other handmaiden.

Sighing with a sort of distress, Luciano motioned and gestured for the company to take a seat at one of the benches that wrapped around a small table of wood that appeared to be grown into the earth itself.

"I cannot say enough how honored I am by your Visit, Eugeni of Ledaal. Please, tell me how I may be of assistance to you. Oh! And your companion? Lord.....?" looking to Shi, Luciano Terpischora smiled respectively hoping not to dishonor his second guest. The man before them touched by age as an exalted was surely in his early 200's and began displaying clear signs of his venerability.

But regardless, as a vassal house he came before the two as a humbled servant.

Eugeni - Is There a Doctor In the House?

The guards were almost flustered to hear Eugeni speak of his House’s name, and they immediately hurried to accompany both Ledaal nobles into the building. The mansion was a gorgeous work of art, and its gardens were exquisite. If Eugeni had time to daydream, he would have been lost looking among the bushes of bright flowers. Yet he was on a mission, and he hoped to accomplish that mission quickly, before the next morning. The two Nobles stood quietly then, as it seemed that the entirety of the mansion’s servants came down to greet them. Luciano also came, an eminent, greying man much like Dr. Gregor, but older. He was in a hurry, and Eugeni could see the piercing grief that he hid in his eyes.

“You do not need to worry. I should have announced that I was coming. I had forgotten my manners while rushing to do errands elsewhere!” Eugeni took his hand and shook it, before bowing his head slightly to honor his host. He also motioned to Shi, quick to make sure his cousin received the same honors. “Lord Luciano, this is my cousin, Shi. I do not know if you have met, but I have been aiding him in my studies, and he has come a long way. If you would be so kind, please ask the servants to make a cup for him as well,” he explained with a kindly smile. He smiled to the servants of the House, and then walked with Luciano to a sitting area within the halls.

“As for the reason I have come, I have come to examine and possibly heal your son, Lord Isadoro. I have heard that his condition has deteriorated with exceeding quickness, and that none of the doctors have been able to help him. I suspect Magic has played a role, and I wish to be of service to him. If he is able to be seen at this time...” He took his host’s hand to express his concern, and he looked into his eyes at the pain Luciano tried to hide, as he tried to be a gracious host.

Shi Enneal Iselsi-Ledaal

Throughout the entire journey, Shi kept to Eugeni's side faithfully. He never spoke any words except if his cousin would speak to himself or address something else, but his eyes and ears are out and about. While Eugeni fantasized at the beautiful flowers and amazing architechture, Shi's eyes darted towards blind spots, hidden corners, suspicious areas, and the faces of the people they meet. Even if they are from one of the eleven Great Houses, danger is never far off. Hosts would need to honor their guests, but not others who follow behind shadows with ill intent.

It didn't take long enough before they were entertained by an older gentleman in the foyer. With graying hair and other signs of aging, Shi could probably guess that the man is perhaps beyond the first century of his life, maybe even in the second. He flashed a smile as he took the man's hand in greetings, and let Eugeni do most of the talk as he sat beside him. The younger man hasn't taken any offense as Lord Luciano have not known his name. He spoke to him after Eugeni, clasping his hands towards the elderly gentleman. "As what my honored cousin have said, I am Shi Enneal of House Ledaal. I am under his tutelage on academic pursuits, and also his companion. I hope that I wouldn't trouble you much with my presence, my Lord."

Luciano Terpischora,
The Manse

The furled brow and wisened face of Luciano peered at Eugeni as his compassionate touch clasped luciano's own hand. If it were not for the jaded experience of age he may have broken into tears, but surely Eugeni could see beyond that and was very aware of the very troubles that had become a random turbulent experience for the house head. Nodding in assurance, Luciano need not inform his servants to treat with Shi as an absence of his cup would undoubtedly be met with strict remand and harsh punishment; especially the fact that the name of House Ledaal was spoken a great many times for all to hear. Luciano had ignored the odd convenience of being noticed and treated by an heir of Ledaal, his grief outweighing Rouzen's fiasco but it wouldn't be long until he was reminded.

"I'm more than willing to set aside the formalities and eitquettes expected if you are, my Lords. And yes... This sickness set itself upon my son like a vengeful concubine. It came on the morning of the new year festival and has since struck him down and made away with his former self. I admit... I am a bad father... I cannot bear to watch nor gaze at him now Lest I replace the memory of him with the shamble and decrepid mockery this ailment makes of him... Please do not judge me. I only wish to preserve his greater self, you youth may not be accustomed to the loss or grief. But i would be greatly indebted to not only you, Lord Eugeni, But Ledaal should you save his life!" Luciano's voice became fragile at its end but he breathed in deeply to collect himself, the servants standing behind still as stone and looking to the soil as they reflected on the benign hospitable nature of Izadoro.

Standing from his seat at the very same moment the tea had arrived and was set on the table. The servant first serving Shi, Eugeni, and then Luciano in that order in a subliminal cultural context to infer their importance as guests. Luciano would turn to Shi with a face of gratitude and esteem, "Lord Shi, it is an honor to make your acquaintance for the first time. I pray you can forgive an old man for his transgressions and can say with high esteem that both you and Lord Eugeni will be welcomes with open arms in house Terpischora!"

Luciano would now speak to both Eugeni and Shi equally and revert to make eye contact with both as he spoke. His scribe behind still not having wrote a single word, Luciano seemingly forgetting his presence. Both scribe and hand maidens however became affixed with something in the distance to the east but Luciano was unaware and continued.

"To be forthright, Lord Eugeni and Lord Shi... I know not what afflicts my son. At first we presume dit was nothing but exhaustion, perhaps fatigue mixed with excitement from the.. The... The events that unfolded St the Deliberative. He's been tasked with leading the supplemental forces alongside the Noble House Vai in the expedition against the Bull in the North. However... It just doesn't make sense, because we've treated fevers before, we can sense as wood aspects the imbalance of essence when such diseases occur. It isn't an affliction of his body... It appears so but it seems secondary. No disease of late tears a man down at such haste." Luciano spoke with his hand to his brow rubbing it slowly but with intensity.

"Its.. Its as if his very essence is assailed. My boy, my boy can't even speak nor resist by himself. We're not in the southern lands and our seers are spread thin. I don't know how to treat it... Just an hour ago he broke into convulsions and frothed. Do you think you can asses his state? " Luciano pleaded second handedly while looking back and forth to both Shi and Eugeni.

Meanwhile, down the stairs in silence eyes of deep green almost the same tiny as the mad sun of Malfeas stared down as they ascended the Eastern exterior stair well at the assembled discussion and approaching... Treading ever so lightly.
