The King and his resurgent Ultra-Royalist supporters began to steer France into a much more conservative and reactionary position. Such led to opposition from liberals and moderates, who were silenced by the military and reactionary peasant militias and bullied into submission. Once the childless Henri died, the throne was supposed to pass to the Orléanist Count Phillipe of Paris. However seeing Phillipe as too liberal, and wishing to remove the Orléanists from the line of succession, the Legitimists gave the crown to the son-in-law of Henri, the Spanish Carlist Count Juan of Montizón, who became King Jean III of France. The Bourbon line was secured, and the French populace welcomed the stability the monarchy brought. The conservative Military establishment became staunch supporters of the Monarchy, and helped it fend off rivals. French liberals hopes of a new Republic were effectively crushed. The Reactionary, Aristocratic, and near absolute French Monarchy became rather cordial with the Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires. There is some talk of a French-Austrian-Russian entente being formed, however these are just rumors at the moment. The French Kingdom seeks to reclaim once Bourbon held lands, such as Naples. It also supports imperialism and colonialism, seeing it as a way to spread French culture and Catholicism across the world. France is currently locked in an arms race with other European powers, and it attempts to have the best technological advantage over all its rivals. The French military is one of the strongest and most advanced in the world, though it is also quite overconfident in its planned goals.
