Year Twelve
Nuff, the young warlock finds himself alone in the jungle. A strange miasma circulates in the air causing illnesses as it moves. Nuff avoids this illness the whole year and manages to still make some progress on his new song, a song of farsight. He however, has been unable to fully get it to work this year.
The lands of the Ulm Tribe is busier than usual, two young members of the tribe begin their education into becoming workers to assist the tribe. The tribe is able to collect ample food, partial to the two young members working to gather food with Bertille. As they are out, Landriche and Thusnelda believe they have worked out how to store grains, but they lack the materials to actually conduct the storage. They believe that by keeping the grain in higher quality pottery in a cool, dry area would help keep the grain from rotting as quickly. At the end of the year, the two young members of the tribe successfully have learned what it means to be a worker.
The Pentakuk tribe begins the training of its young members to be workers this year. During their training they efficiently gather food and help create an ample supply for the tribe, staving off hunger. By year’s end, Nuniq understands the job of a worker, but Uki needs more time to gain an understanding of the training. Across the mountains and down the Silver River from the tribe which took their name from it, Kakortok finds the river valley continues through a metal rich region. True to its name, silver is found near the silver river and even a grey metal ore (hematite) can be found alongside slabs of granite jutting from the ground further from the river itself. Back in the camp, two baskets are woven to assist the tribe’s gathering efforts and Anjij gives birth to a sickly baby boy. Anjij herself remains healthy. The research into the crude traps does not yield results this year, but future attempts may benefit from the work this year.
The Aederfolk find their lands to be warmer than usual this year. The eerie orange glow from beyond the horizon in the west continues this year every night. They are able to collect sufficient food for the tribe this year. Copper is gathered and smelted before being cast into a copper spear by another of the workers, improving the hunting implements of the tribe by another spear this year. The Tarpan, living near the tribe and their enclosure, proved difficult to tame. Attempts to get them to stay within the pen or any other signs of submission to the tribe fail this year. The knowledge learned this year can provide a basis by which to attempt to tame them with better success in the future.
Apophis follows the river, against the current, collecting food as he goes. He finds Deer filtering into the region as he does. Beside the deer, the only thing he notices about the lands besides the forested river system which seems to be narrowing until eventually the river comes to an end. At the end of the river a grove of glowing trees illuminates the area giving a place of calmness as the forest itself even seems to be thinning. The pursuits of the mind, which Apophis was pondering do not yet yield results, but he believes that his mind is superior to all those he has met before and he will be able to achieve psionics with enough time.
The cool valley of the Silver River Tribe is host to a strange guest this year. A wanderer of extraordinary age. He refuses to give his name or where he came from, just that he will exchange knowledge for food. Doing so, he teaches the silver river tribe how to create crude traps to assist their hunters should smaller prey become available. He eats his fill and leaves, refusing to remain and assist the tribe further. Despite the extra visitor, the tribe has plenty of food for the remainder of the year. Sylri works on training her eldest child Aelor how to become a worker. While the boy has the right mindset, he simply does not seem to grasp the concepts required of a Silver River Worker and will need further training. Despite splitting her time between a child and research, Meru is able to nurse Za back to health at the cost of not being successful in her studies. Similarly, Tafari and Ixidor are fruitless in their clay crafting attempts this year. It seems the workers brought in most of this year’s progress as six new sets of warm clothes and two portions of oak wood are brought in for the tribe’s use.
The Korthuun start the year off with good intentions, but distractions in making traps seem to have led to a food shortage. Amid this shortage, a strange visitor comes to the tribe in their time of need and teaches them the basics of rudimentary horticulture. This comes immediately into use as the tribe brings in whatever food they can, and by some miracle no one becomes ill or malnourished from lack of food this year. Three traps are created and ready to be used in the coming years, and the scholars believe they understand the purple ore better. While they have yet to name the metal, they believe that they hold the spirits of creatures that have died near them. With the right knowledge they believe that they can craft these into very high quality spears and tools for the tribe. Merved also gives birth this year to a sickly baby girl, but Merved retains her own health following the birth.
On the shores of their safe bay, the Men of Aten continue to live. They collect a plentiful food supply this year, holding off hunger once more and grow curious about the world around them. Both scouts, Adolin and Rose head off in a general southwards direction, though they split up heading due south and southwest respectively. However, they both encounter the same river. Rose, due south of the tribe’s location, describes a slow moving river around which a plethora of animals live. Ibex and Aurochs graze the lands and the herbs they eat seem to have medicinal properties to them. Down river, Adolin finds a different scene. Wolves hungrily patrol this portion of the river as it makes its way from the east into the bay, north of the land. North, west, and northwest are bound in by the bay or the sea. She finds glints of gold among the slow moving portions of the river indicating that there is a source of gold to be found here. Lastly she discovers white berries, however she dares not try them after she notices the local wildlife avoiding them and the animals she does see near these white berries are very much dead. Back with the tribe, not much else is accomplished. The spear thrower design is not yet completed and Kane remains ill, though it does not get worse this year. Even Talia seems to be unable to learn properly and needs another year of warrior training.
The lands of the Sea-Blessed have been disrupted. A wanderer approaches from the east with three large wolves in tow. The language he speaks is strange and fairly foreign, but there are a couple of words which are similar. Perhaps if he spent more time with the tribe he would be able to pick up the language better, but for now he has simply arrived. Food this year, even with the approaching wanderer, is quite plentiful. While the mysteries of salt distillation still elude Jarn and now Elvira they feel that they were very close. Similarly, the work at determining the ley-lines of the region have gone without reward this year. The good news comes in other forms for the tribe as Vittoria regains her health and Dama’ training is completed, successfully transitioning into a worker for the tribe.
The Eliphas Clan has a good year this year. With enough food to fill their bellies and stave off starvation for another year, life is always good. Its doing so good that some food (2 portions) are able to be preserved through the smoking/drying technique the tribe has discovered. Two atlatls are produced to assist the hunters and Cin is able to return with food and a portion of the corkbulb root for study or to simply be chewed on from the area to the north. The root itself is fairly large, one root is meal-sized, but with its other properties who knows what could be discovered from it. Closer to home, the Scholar Mabe employs Jass to assist with trying to coax the sheep to live closer to the clan. However, the sheep do not seem to grow comfortable sharing a space with the Clan this year.
The Exile, Lucius Arkon has found more people. A tribe in the delta region of the river whose people carry spears tipped with sunset metals. They speak a strange language that Lucius can barely make a few words out of, but should he spend enough time here he will be able to learn to communicate with the people and describe the lands he has seen and introduces his wolves, which have seemingly grown fond of being petted and fed by him. However, during his travels he came across a miasma which moved across the flat lands near the river and after that day, one of the wolves became ill, having trouble keeping food down.
The forested mountains and hills of the Ciaráin are lean this year as the tribe is unable to bring in enough food to last the entire year. However, in their luck no one grows ill as they were able to ration themselves near the end of the season. Even better news for the tribe, by year’s end, despite the lack of an abundant food supply, the whole tribe regains their health and at the start of the next year they will be fully healthy and prepared to work to their fullest. It seems that the lean years may be behind them now.
