Year Six
The Tribe of Ulm faced some difficulties this year, but found themselves able to hunt and gather sufficient food for them to not go hungry. Even better news this year around is that the two children, Wigburg and Meinrad are no longer sick and have begun playing as young boys of their age tend to do. The edible tubers and grasses planted near the village seem to increase the accessibility of their food sources, but doesn’t seem to increase how much they are able to gather beyond a certain point as the tribe can only gather food so quickly. Perhaps if they had some method of collecting faster the edible grasses they could manage to bring in more food.
The wise and knowledgeable Apophis believed he could create a new source of entertainment on his lakeside home. As his experiment continued, he began smelling the rot and then flies were being attracted to the scent. Eventually, he admitted defeat this round, dumping the clay out to find the heavy, wet mass at the bottom had undergone some fermentation, but also seemed to weaken the integrity of his clay pot. Perhaps if the clay were made into a harder material, something more intense than the sun, it would harden even further promoting the desired effect. Or perhaps simply this was a fluke and the next time would yield better results.
In their woodland homes, the Eliphas Clan was wary of the potential dangers that their home had. Though it had been some time since they last saw wolves, the beasts could return anytime and seek out the young of the clan as a meal. This year however, so such event occurred. Hunting and gathering provided plentiful food for the clan as they found themselves welcoming two new children into the world. The first, born to Mala, though she has yet to name the father of the healthy baby girl. Jass and Mabe also are happy to bring a girl into the world, though both child and mother seem to have the birthing illness. Aside from her child, Mala is able to create two flint and wood spears for the clan and Mabe, despite her illness has perfected the spear-thrower design to give the hunters greater yields in their hunts.
The Ciaráin come across disaster this year. The sounds of grunting and snorting fill the mountains during the growing season of the year. By the time the tribe goes to harvest the mushrooms and edible grasses, they have been well picked over by the enormous swarm of boars which moved through the area. Because of the terrible fortunes of the tribe, they run short of food. Eirnín and the child Sive grow weak and ill from the lack of food and may need additional rest or attention in the near future. The most well fed of the Ciaráin is Meibhín who has taken to exploring the east in search of someone, anyone. The land she passes through is filled with both narrow and wide mountain passes leading in a northeast/southwest direction. As she crests peaks she notices rock rabbits running into and out of their homes, a seemingly easy meal for her. However, no nomads or wanderers are found on this trip. Eirnín’s search into creating a new and better axe than the current handaxe continues to run into issues. While he understands the hand axe’s limitations, his changes to it have not yielded better results yet. He does feel more confident about the research he is doing though.
A plethora of food is what the Pentakok have gathered in their homes. However, the overabundance of food may have attracted a new, larger threat. For the wolves, which once hounded them for food, now have been chased out of the area or eaten by the Great Shadow. A shadowy bird creature which flies higher than the other birds and had deposited a few whale bones near the tribe’s home indicating its size and capabilities. For now, it seems to leave the tribe alone, aside from passing over head when the hunters return. During this time of fear and confusion, the secrets of how to better fasten and prepare hides and furs to make clothing comes to Anjin. While wearing the only one of its kind for now, Anjin is keen to get other people into the clothes in case the weather turns for the worst. Far away from the tribe, the scout, Kakortok faces the difficult task of bypassing the mountains, finding passes that cross from the frigid forests of her home into a hilly valley beyond the mountains. The coldest winds seem to end at the mountains and this land is filled with all sorts of creatures, slender wooly creatures which scatter when she approaches, Large, antlered creatures similar to the reindeer that passed through the tribe’s lands in the past. Even the rocks here are different as a grey metallic rock seems to catch her eye as it pokes out from some of the hills.
The quiet valleys of the De Wah Del-Aton remain quiet and steady. Protecting their inhabitants from the dangers of the world around them. Their wise and faithful members continue working with the local plants until finally, they begin to sprout. A small garden is formed near the tribe as they have learned a method by which to properly plant them and keep them alive. Unfortunately for the tribe however, the work required to actually bring in the food required to keep the tribe alive is too much for the same people to also prepare it for preservation of what small excess there is. Beyond the tribe’s lands however, Umak discovers forested mountains. Tall trees of pine coat the sides of this range as small rock rabbits burrow beneath them for shelter. In the bushes, tasty berries give Umak something to tell his clan about as they are quite edible.
In the shallows and rivers of their land, the Sea-Blessed continue to hunt and fish for their meals. The tribe manages to collect enough food for the tribe this year as Sylvia again leaves in search of a husband. As she treks she discovers more of the resources in the region, Red fruits which grow in abundance that have a sweet and juicy taste to them. As she is picking over one of the strawberry plants she spots movement. She finds a girl also picking the strawberries to eat. Convincing her to return to the Sea-Blessed is not difficult and soon the two return to the tribe. The girl is sixteen years of age, and considers her profession to be a tribal inhabitant. She doesn’t show any particular specialization and seems rather well rounded in most areas except for her knowledge of the world in which she is severely lacking. With this new set of hands, the tribe continues its works only pausing to welcome two children into the tribe. Maria gives birth to a healthy baby boy, but soon grows ill following the birth. Vladimir and Vittoria welcome a sickly baby girl into the world, but Vittoria is well soon after the birth and able to care for her. During his attempts to extract minerals from the sea, Jarn falls ill. He gains the belief that sea water may be poisonous. Maria, despite her illness, completes her Pemmican recipe and lets the tribe know how to craft it should she succumb to her illnesses in the future.
A beautiful sunrise crests over the lands where the Men of Aten reside. The sunrise is so inspirational, that Eliza seems to work more effectively in the hours as it is rising. However, by years end, she still has not learned how to smelt the copper that exists in the lands around them. Her new habit however seems to have inspired her to be more productive on this topic in the future. Around her fervorous research, the clan continued its daily routine. A healing of the sick is seemingly accomplished without too much strain on the caster, though Isabel does not believe she will be capable of casting another heal of that sort in the near future. Eliza then welcomes a new child into the world, the sickly boy is cared for by his mother for the time being. With Ample food, the Men of Aten are comfortable in their lives beside their beautiful bay with its inspirational sunrises.
On the coastal plains, the wild Tarpan strode. However, a clever individual within the Aederfolk decided now would be a good chance to dominate these beasts. Cyhr, though ill, lent her aid to the effort of Llyr. For much of the year they made absolutely no progress, having little in the way of knowing how to tame or dominate any sort of creature. However, a chance for that may have arrived when a migration of sheep wandered into their lands. The tribe around them collect ample food stores from both hunting the Tarpan and the sheep which now roam in flocks, but who knows for how long before they migrate away again. The crafting of Cigfa and Pywll bring the tribe two Atlatl (Q: 1). It is during this year that both Cyhr and Cigfa give birth. A healthy girl for Cyhr gives her joy, though her health remains the same and she will have difficulty caring for the child for now. Cigfa gave birth to a sickly boy, but she remains healthy enough to care for him and Cyhr’s child until the time when Cyhr is healthy again.
The glistening valley of the Silver River Tribe is witness to a miracle of nature. A sunrise, so inspirational that Tafari and Meru both feel a strong sense of purpose as they delve into their studies further. Tafari trying everything he can to entice the Llama to live closer to the tribe, while Meru walks the forests and lonely hills nearby communing with the spirits of nature as she does. The tribe sees an abundant food supply this year as Astaro leaves the village to explore up the river. She finds more of the river valley which contains the Llamas which seem to have spread across the whole of the known valley. Additionally, there are white furred foxes running from place to place looking for their next meal. She also takes note of the purple crystalline rocks which poke from rocky outcroppings on the hills of the region. As she returns, she is met by two strangers in the camp. A girl, just younger than her, and a man older than Tafari. They arrived one day and asked to join the tribe, the sight of the large quantities of food being brought into the tribe’s home was all that was needed to entice them to join up. Tafari accepted them and initiated them into the tribe, permitting them to name themselves in the river. However, no matter how much inspiration they received from the sunrise, Tafari and Meru still both failed their respective tasks. Some secrets are well hidden, but they are not determined to unlock these secrets to the world around them.
The hunger of previous years burns deep into the minds of The Korthuun and they work hard to construct better traps, more traps, and even the scholars pitch in to hunt and trap for food while their explorer seeks new sources of food nearby. Which, for the tribe’s security needed to happen as the year was quite lean, with the tribe cutting down on what they ate during the winter months to try and make what they have last just a little bit longer. Sure enough, to the south, as Merved explores there an open flat plain expands out around them. Edible grasses and Apple trees are common in the area, if they had only known about this vast treasure of food in previous years, there would be less illness in the tribe. In addition to these valuable sources of food, a metallic purple ore peeks out from various rocky outcroppings on the plain where the trees and grass refuses to grow. Those illnesses had their effects on the tribe’s actions. While Agol and Merved were able to shake their illnesses, Hoska remains ill and Endir’s illness seems to have gotten worse. The desire for more food to feed their hungry bellies is always a driving factor for the tribe and Nado has devised a better trap for them to lure in more of the seemingly endless Nugs giving them hope for future hunts. He thinks that with some more improvements they can create a set of permanent traps that they can simply empty and reuse without much effort.
