Negative though, I do suppose a scout heading out to explore could back track to where they originated from as part of their exploration.

I'll try to fix the scout thing next update for ya.
As for learning, each time you try to learn something and fail, you gain some progress toward it making it a higher chance of succeeding next time. Also collaborating scholars have a higher chance. Even non-scholars can help, they may not be as useful as a scholar in learning new things, but its still possible to assist. If say one scholar gives two points towards learning, two scholars working on the same thing give five points.
Also, if anyone has questions on some mechanics just ask me. I want to keep specifics secret, but I can help people help understand a little better (for now).
