Oh no, not you! Surely not. I was talking about Raven.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Any way I could swing my JTAC character I'm working on being a SEAL or is it better if they're MARSOC or even just a normal Marine?

If you can find a reason for a SEAL team to be deployed with the Strike Group, sure. MARSOC is probably a better bet, a JTAC more so. Do whatever suits your fancy.

Biography:

Born into a noble family in the Empire of Corleans, Paul always dreamed of being a knight, until both his parents died and he was picked by a knight to be his squire. As a squire he fought in several battles although never received credit for it, which shaped him as a knight by giving him experience. When he was 19 he was deployed with the knights in a battle with a foreign army during an expansionist war, in which the knights and squires died and him and a few knights were severely injured but able to fend off enough of the enemy to escape with a few survivors. The Emperor knighted him to take the place of the knight who died, and knighted several others in a ceremony.

He joined the The Order of the Camellia as a knight, and fought in battles, he eventually fought too many battles and while he decided to stick with the order. After what happened with the Essex strike force, Sir Roland decided to go chase after the marines, since he was already training and policing with the order nearby. He believes the rumors are true, because they seem feasible considering magic. His fellow knights do not like his armor, although it does create fear and helps him scare his opponents.

Personality: smart and loyal to the emperor, and offers leadership although doesn’t seek power very often because he knows that it is both corrupt and dangerous.

Obligatory not a Co-Op, but thought I might make some suggestions on the app:
1. Even though you seem to want to make it apart of his backstory, there's no need for him to be adopted as a squire by a Knight, especially as there's no prior connection to this Knight [IE Relative, Family Friend, Knight of his Family]. As a noble he could have likely attended the Knight's Academy when he was younger, and possibly even the Officer's Academy as well, as have many [if not all] of the Noble Characters so far. Just a suggestion though
2. The whole part about chasing after the Marines is a bit weird. It's already been established that the Order of Camellia is in the South actively looking for the Essex group. But the way you've written it, it makes it seem like he's ventured off on his own away from the order to hunt down the Marines solo. Might be wrong but it's hard to tell. If that's the case it doesn't make a lot of sense, and without permission from the leader of the order, would net him in a lot of trouble. I could be wrong about what exactly he is doing though
3. I'm in no place to correct others on grammar, [and I don't mean to insult you were or not you're a native speaker], but the Bio is very choppy overall and a lot of things [for instance "he eventually fought too many battles and while he decided to stick with the order"] are out of place or irrelevant.

You're also still missing an RP Sample, just fyi

Biography:
Born in Perth, Will was orphaned when he was still young and largely grew up within the foster care system. As is unfortunately all too often the case, he was just past the age when adoption was likely and he resigned himself pretty early on to a life without parents. It was something that he got over after a year or two, accepting the hand that life had dealt him and choosing to play the game instead of moping about it. But it meant that he was exposed to some of the shadier sides of society from a young age, and by the time he was a teenager, Will had fallen in with a bad crowd. Despite having once been at the top of his class, school struck him as unimportant and uninteresting compared to hanging out with his mates and finding a way to make a quick buck. The staff of his foster home had all but given up on righting his path - inundated as they were with the number of cases under their care - but Will would eventually find himself the lucky recipient of a second chance.

Always a fan of tinkering with his hands, Will had a knack for figuring out how things worked and putting bits and pieces back together. It was a skill he’d honed over the years and had found a use for tending to stolen vehicles and street racers. He was cheap labour, and it was work that he was fond of - nobody else would dare let him work on their cars, let alone some of the higher end models that his coworkers would sometimes get their hands on. It was a good gig that lasted right up until a police sting shut down the whole operation and Will found himself being shipped off to juvenile detention. It was there that he drew the attention of a former soldier who’d taken up a career in law enforcement after his service. As cliche of a story as it might have been, the older man took Will under his wing during his service and tried to show him another path: and that path would begin with a stint in the ADF.

The discipline and rigid hierarchy of the military took William by surprise, and the rigorous training tore the young man down for each infraction and attempted insubordination. It was a rough period for him, and there were times where he genuinely questioned what was even the point. But with nowhere else to really turn and refusing to let his mentor down, he persevered until the end until, suddenly and unexpectedly, he found himself enjoying it. The harsh timetables, the unending workload, the chance to push himself and bear a real responsibility - it was nearly intoxicating. They say that intense pressure can turn coal into diamond, and the strain of his training changed Will in a similar fashion. Motivated and determined, he clawed up the ranking of his class until he graduated right near the top and was sent on his first deployment. Will would never look back from that moment, deciding that it was when his life really began.

He’s kept in touch with the officer that first talked him into enlisting, although they’ve had few chances to meet in person. It was in one of their last encounters that the other man talked Will into applying to college, pursuing a part-time course with a military scholarship in engineering. But he never had a chance to finish when - on a brief deployment to help support the HMAS Success during its training exercises, he found himself in another world.

Biography:
Nanmara’s life began with the Imperial conquest of Emallon, everything before that has since faded into the haze of memory. Nanmara was still only a child when the Imperial armies rode across the border, firing the opening salvos of a war that would see the once proud elven nation brought low to its knees. The armies of Emallon had been considered to be one of the few remaining obstacles to the rapidly expanding Empire, but even they stood little chance against the overwhelming force that was hurled against the walls of their cities. Elvish blood, already a precious resource, was shed on an unimaginable scale. The death and slaughter forced the King to seek terms with the humans, kneeling in desperation before their Emperor as he begged for mercy to be shown to his people. A treaty was signed, dictated word for word by the overwhelming victors and imposed upon their new subjects with a confident superiority. Reparations would be paid in the form of wealth and manpower, slaves and soldiers, while the Kingdom of Emallon would be allowed to survive as a shadow of its former self – a remote province of the Empire monitored with a keenly observant eye by the central authorities. The elves became second class citizens within their own lands and their rulers had to hand over hostages in order to ensure their compliance. Chief among these hostages, was the young daughter of the King himself: Nanmara Zylwynn.

Handed over to the victorious army, Nanmara was taken to the heart of the Empire itself to live as a servant of the royal household. She was taught to be polite and obedient, to avert her eyes in respect to her superiors and to always be on hand when needed. Determined to do her part to protect her people, Nanmara threw herself into her duties and proved to be both loyal and hardworking. As days turned into months and months into years, she increasingly became a trusted member of the household staff and was soon allowed to continue the magical training that had begun in her youth. To an elf, magic came as naturally as breathing or drinking. It was as much a part of their biology as thinking was for humans and Nanmara relished the opportunity to flex a muscle that had been left unused for so long. Despite her hard work ethic, Nanmara was viewed as little more than another one of the servant girls in the large, lavish Imperial estate. At best, her pointed ears and increasingly graceful features were a curiosity that could be put on display for visiting dignitaries and the nobles of the Emperor’s Court, but beyond that she was scarcely above the furniture. That is until she became the centre of attention in one fateful moment.

Nanmara was helping to serve the Emperor’s table at one of the many feasts that were hosted in the Palace. It was hardly the first gala that she had helped serve, and Nanmara was going through the motions when she caught the glint of metal out of the corner of her eye. Her heart skipped a beat as she recognised the small blade of the knife, the weapon hiding in the waistcoat of another of the servers. Nanmara watched, uncertain of what to do, as the man walked briskly towards the Emperor’s seat. The gears in her head whirred, connecting the dots and extrapolating with horror to determine what was about to take place.

She acted on impulse and instinct. Nanmara knocked the would-be-assassin from his feet before leaping onto him in an effort to wrestle the weapon from his grip. The sudden brawl evoked a number of shouted cries from the gathered nobles, calls of outrage turning into surprised yells for the guards as everyone recognised what the two servants were battling over. Despite her young frame, Nanmara struggled with all of her might and was able to keep the assassin pinned until the guards tore the two apart. The man swore at her for her actions, cursing her name and memory for foiling his plot as he was dragged away. The event had been a shock, and thrust Nanmara into the spotlight for her actions. The Emperor wanted to learn more about this elven servant that had acted so quickly to defeat a threat that had eluded his own guards. He took a liking to the young girl, hearing from the more senior servants of her quiet devotion and effort. Seeking to reward Nanmara for the deed, the Emperor asked the girl what he could possibly do for her. Her response was immediate and without hesitation, and yet it brought a silence over the throne room: she wished to be allowed to enter the Knight’s Academy. To train and serve the Emperor as one of his soldiers alongside the crop of the Empire’s nobility.

Despite the hesitations and misgivings held by the Emperor’s court and some of his advisors, he chose to accept Nanmara’s request - claiming that he was inspired by the boldness of the elf. He was also the first to point out that she was technically a member of a foreign nobility due to her royal blood, and so had a right to attend the rigorous Academy. Nanmara was as stunned as anyone to hear that her request had been approved, but she refused to pass up on such an opportunity. Living within the Imperial Household, seeing the devastation wrought by needless wars, and watching an attempted assassination with her own eyes, she had becomed convinced that things needed to change. She had a duty to her home and her people to prove to the Empire and the humans that elves could be noble and honourable citizens as well, and she would dedicate her life towards achieving that goal.

Unfortunately, attending and graduating from the Knight’s Academy were two entirely different challenges.

With her pointed ears and narrow frame drawing whispers and suspicious gazes like moths to a flame, Nanmara went through the Academy entirely alone. She had no noble family to lean on for support and the other students regarded her presence as an affront to their standing and titles, not to mention the prestige of the institution that they all attended. To say that she had no friends would be an understatement. The bullying and the isolation were constant and recurring, although Nanmara always refused to fight back or lash out. She knew that to do so would jeopardise her tenuous position in the Academy, and so she retaliated by succeeding wherever she could.

As a servant, she was used to long hours and discipline. Driven by her own, personal goals, Nanmara spent nearly every waking hour studying or training and the fruits of her labour inevitably began to show. In every one of her classes she excelled, much to both the frustration and - far more rarely - admiration of her peers. Able to combine her magical abilities with her swordplay, Nanmara proved herself to be a more-than-capable warrior, while her devotion to the Knightly tenants of chivalry and honour seemed unquestionable. By the time of her graduation from the Academy, she might not have had any friends but at the very least some of her fellow graduates considered her their peer.

Nanmara’s official Knighting caused a stir at first, with a number of units refusing to accept her into their ranks until the school officials could eventually find some backwater where they were desperate enough to take her. She was the subject of gossip and rumours in noble circles and the target of quite a bit of debate among curious aristocrats, and all of that conspired to ensure that the young elf never quite overcame all the obstacles that were presented to her. But the attention span of the nobility was about as long as the most recent source of gossip, and the scandal of an elvish knight gradually reduced itself to a curiosity as the years came to pass. All the while, Nanmara never once let her confidence or determination waiver. She threw her whole effort into even the most menial of tasks, day after day, year after year, and came to earn the respect of her immediate superiors. But opportunities for advancement were few and far between in a quiet frontier province - despite the occasional bandit raid - and Nanmara’s heritage dulled any attempt to put her name forward for a promotion. The situation would have likely continued, had war not come to the province when the Illiac Alliance suddenly attacked across the border.

Unprepared for the onslaught, the Imperial forces were largely swept aside by the united foreign army, and most of the local Imperial leadership were killed in the first few battles. With the regular chain of command lying in tatters, bold and courageous soldiers took the initiative to fill in the gaps, with Nanmara herself being one among them. With most of the soldiers in her garrison having gotten used to her presence and appreciative of her abilities, they were willing to follow her commands in the midst of battle and together they waged an effective guerilla campaign against the superior invaders as the Empire mustered its reinforcements. Cut off from most of their supplies and contact with Imperial territory, the small group of surviving warriors developed into an effective force that slowed and harried the Illiac advance.

The ending of the First War brought with it a return to a tentative peace, as both sides withdrew to lick their wounds. As word trickled down to the Capital of Nanmara’s actions and commendations from her fellow soldiers went as far as reaching the Emperor’s ears, a decision was made. Everyone knew that the peace was only a calm before the next conflict, one which the Empire had every intention of winning. To achieve this, they could not afford to squander a Knight with experience in the theatre and a clear talent for combat. Nanmara was offered the honorary title of Countess for her actions, although she received no deed to land. This thrust her into the official ranks of Imperial nobility, and gave her a position within the Knightly forces gathering in Osjio. With her new honorary rank, Nanmara continued to serve in the theatre until the fighting finally came to a close.

The Crown’s Imperial Rangers

A comparably small sub-division of the Empire’s military, the Imperial rangers are a collection of elite scouts tasked with gathering and providing intelligence to the crown and their forces. In times of war, rangers often mobilize with armies to act as advisors, scouts and guides to the forces or move in small isolated groups focused on quietly undergoing important tasks or uncovering vital information from otherwise dangerous, volatile or politically unstable areas. In times of peace however, the rangers are still often scouting for the crown but are also occasionally called upon as spies for matters both internal and external.

The rangers, while respected for their effectiveness, are often seen with a level of mistrust and skepticism if not outright hostility from their vast use of subterfuge and ‘dishonourable’ methods. Nobles rarely work within the rangers as society tends to demand they stay clear in order to preserve their image and the country’s respectable status of nobles, being offered few privileges and fewer authorities only goes to further reduce that number. As a result, nearly the whole of the unit is made from peasantry selected from the wider military.

As their name suggest, the rangers serve the crown and take orders from appointed nobles and commanders within the army. While often used to investigate and guide, rangers are occasionally called upon as agents to perform important or personal tasks ranging from couriering documents to helping to assess lords and their lands. The unit itself is broken up into ranks of trainees, full-rangers, ranger captains and their commander (currently Sir Randolf Galian). With the exception of the commander, the ranks only influence internal elements for the rangers, while they can be given provisional commands, Rangers do not have the right to lead military forces.

Image
While their official armor is used in formal settings and gatherings, most rangers wear a variety of clothing and light armors to better blend in with their local environment.
-"Why would we wear that crap in the field? Have you ever tried sneaking in chainmail?!" - Ranger Commander Galian

Biography:
Rohan was born to a small family of farmers in the mid regions of the Corlean empire, his time with them was however was ultimately cut short with the appearance of a long and brutal drought ultimately leading to a wave of starvation and sickness. By the age of seven, he was orphaned and alone with little prospects beyond starvation. As fate would have it though, he did not meet his end, instead he was eventually found by an altruistic hunter while searching the nearby woods for food. Without options and only guilty of failing as a poacher, the hunter took the young Rohan in as his apprentice and gave him a place to call home.

Coping with his losses was difficult for the young boy but the constant work, chores and tasks given to him helped gave him a way to escape and from a young age he picked up the habbit of throwing himself into his tasks as he pushed his doubts and concerns aside. As well as providing housing, food and work, his new guardian went on to raise the young boy too, instilling ideals of right and wrong and explaining that no matter what, the world will always have good in it and that the pain, suffering and loss within can be temporary. The key, he was told, was learning from it and becoming strong enough to stop the pain from repeating. It took Rohan years to fully understand this but watching the rain return and his abandoned home rebuilt, reclaimed and developed against future drought made him understand. While tragic for him, the empire and its people had learned from it and however small it was, in the long run his family’s loss would go on to help others. It was a small comfort, but it was enough for Rohan to move on.

When he came of age, Rohan left the hunter’s cabin to find his own path and eventually found it in the army. First working as an assistant hunter, Rohan was eventually sent on one of the empire’s border wars. There he worked to help maintain and restock the supplies of his people as they marched from battle to battle. As time wore however, the overall tides of war turned against the empire and the Corelean forces were forced in a desperate defense as they tried to hold out for reinforcements. When food began to dwindle in their camp, Rohan began to travel further and further in search of food for his comrades. On one such trip, he came across an unmarked path leading deeper into the surrounding forest and eventually, behind enemy lines.

After returning and telling the other hunters of his discovery, an accompanying ranger took the still youthful hunter aside for questions. Later that night, the pair set off into the woods to rediscover the path and fully explore it. When the next day came, the Corlean army had a secret weapon, one that went on to tip the scales of battle back in their favour and after one surprise attack and an all out charge, they managed to rout the opposing army and go back on the offensive. Rohan continued serving throughout the conflict, no longer a hunter but a ranger in training. Scouting positions, searching for tracks and when inevitably pushed to it, killing the empire’s enemies. By the time the war ended he was officially brought in as a trainee of the rangers.

Whether from luck, fate, skill or a combination of all three, Rohan went on to quickly distinguish himself time and time again. In training, in duties and in loyalty he never faltered nor wavered and went on to become a full-fledged ranger in record time. From there he only continued to excel, providing detailed routes, precise troop counts and detailed depictions of fortifications, topping off his uses, was his own uncanny talent with the bow. In time he was even named responsible for leading the rescue of a fiefdom’s leader and uncovering a neighbouring nation’s attempt to undermine the outer regions of the empire. Bringing a highly volatile situation to a stable and satisfying conclusion, Rohan received some of the highest possible awards and commendations for a non-noble along with becoming the youngest ranger to earn the title captain.

Personality: At first meeting, Rohan can often come across as gruff, rude and stubborn often relying on sarcasm and blunt statements to make his points. While all true, Rohan is also an honest and straightforward man willing to share his thoughts and often looking for ways to provide help where he can. Being a peasant and a veteran ranger, Rohan is well aware of how he should act with those above him and is well practiced in adopting a neutral respectful tone when dealing with those he doesn’t know or trust.

Past Occupations, Positions, Roles, Ranks and Achievements: Orphan peasant who joined with the military to earn a living. Eventually was scouted into the Imperial Rangers where he distinguished himself enough to receive commendations and the rank of Ranger Captain.

Equipment:
  • Primary Weapon: Long Bow
  • Secondary Weapon: Short sword
  • Additional Munitions: Quiver of arrows, large throwing knife, Saex hunting knife
  • Uniform Equipment:
Made for mobility and ease of travel, the leather armor is made to provide general protection against blunt attacks with reinforced bracers for deflecting small blades and claws without hindering the abilities of its wearer. After some general wear and tear, the uniform can blend well in woodlands, grasslands and towns.

  • Misc. & Other Stuff: Ranger sigil, maps and charts, dried meats,
Found as a young, seemingly abandoned mimic of sorts, Rohan came across the ill and starving creature early into his career as a ranger and went on to bring it with him and nurse it back to health. With time, the mimic regained its strength and went on to grow close to its saviour during their travels.
At present, the pair live in an almost symbiotic relationship as they work to protect one another and see their duty through. In terms of capabilities, Lunar is able to see with uncanny precision and share its vision with Rohan as well as receive instructions from him from up to several kilometres away. The mimic itself however, is relatively frail and limited to a body size similar to that of a moderately large cat. While remarkably fast, Lunar is unable to do much more than bite and scratch in times of danger

Moral Alignment: neutral good

Likes: freedom, mercy, nature, has a soft spot for sweet food and drinks

Dislikes: Corruption, unnecessary death, naivety.

OOC- First draft up (I ended up losing my first version and having to re-do large chunks of the app so there’s probably a few grammatical errors dotted around that I’ll try to tidy up in a bit). There’s a few parts I’m looking to flesh out IC but let me know how it seems and if there's anything that needs to be clarified or changed : )

First mistake is believing Jori is a normal cat.

Of course Jori isn’t a normal care, he’s a giant cat.

Snorts well I mean true and fair. Will take inspiration from Mister, Dresden Files, for him. Lotta loud as fuck, car-engine-like growls. He's a big boy.

...jeez I take a lotta inspiration from Dresden Files, lol. Next post I'll have him enter.

EDIT: My oh my, I like the elven knight and the ranger! Will be fun to interact with both, though to be honest Kiles may pull some...well a lot...of rank. He overall has executive and judicial power, being as he is, and probably can't really have rank pulled on him without either someone being nobility-nobility (Them high-ups), be royal, or have an edict from either.

Have you decided that he is staying with the Order, or are you going it alone? Your application casts two different lights on this, as if he is striking out from the Order to chase after the Strike Group.

He’s staying with the order to go after them. He might branch out and go by himself but not as of now. Is it accepted now that that is clarified?

From what I gather, wouldn't Kiles be somewhere around the rank of a Vis-Count putting him below the Elven Knight, even if it's an honorary title as it's still a court rank

Could drop her down to a Baroness. Was originally going to give her that rank but got swayed by the very negligible matter of "Countess" sounding cooler.
