Is this game meant to be played as an RPG, or more like an RP? Because I'm trying to make logical decisions based on my country/culture, instead of picking things to win. I'm pretty new to this sort of game, and so I think the question should be asked:

should I play this for the sake of the story, or should I play this to win? Because there's some short posts out there detailing what the states are doing, but the explanation as to 'why' and 'how' is kind of left out most of the time. Could just be me though!

I personally play a happy marriage of the two. My character and his state want as much gold as possible and so do I.

I think playing a mix of it might be the best thing to do, which is what I'm currently kinda doing. The story's obviously important, as it is to any RP, but we're still RPing in the confines of a game system.

I am for a balance too, personally - play, but show. Intrinsically RPGs can be quite flexible, but ignoring their core mechanics means you’ll have a tough time telling a coherent story others can agree with; I should no more summon an army of ten thousand spearrmen from the ground than I should convenient murder another character.

Even so, posts with only numbers lack the flesh and blood which brings roleplaying to life - and thus posts should never only consist of that skeleton in my opinion, or else the RP is only an undead monstrosity trotting to an early grave.

OOCly, it was foolish of me to have Jarn call for a revolt against the (much more powerful) Emperor. But it fit his character, and shaped my RPing in a way I did not expect. So, that’s all to the best, in my opinion.

Sometimes pragmatism and practicality are great things to strife to, but if your character is a bloodthirsty zealot, then skipping pragmatism might be a good idea. Every leader has flaws and strengths, and you can only really 'build' a story if you have a relatable character with realistic expectations and goals.
