Oh I just love how the pro-choice people are misrepresenting our point by looking to the fringe. Do they not realise the bill specifies that the mother can seek an abortion if her like is at risk? I will admit, their strawmen will do wonders for my bonfire. Tweet content #LifeAmendmant

The SLP/R's doors are always open to government MPs who are dissatisfied with Carl von Leslie's regressive leadership style. I'd be happy to welcome anyone in who shares the ideals of responsible government and progressive social policy.

Filip, having not worked in the capital for some time, didn't know much about restaurants in the city and had to rely on the advice of his old friend from Strandgård who was more familiar with the city and everything it had to offer. One of his most recommended places turned out to be a humble restaurant with a beautiful garden not that far from the beach. Filip skimmed over the menu before entering. He ordered a cup of tea and sat down in a quiet spot, awaiting the people who were supposed to join him.

For Seč, the winding, lazy streets of the capital confused him, as he was still unused to the city’s design. As such, it took him slightly longer than expected to find the place, much less his fellow MP. Pulling up a chair, he nodded to Filip. “My apologies for the tardiness. I’m still getting accustomed to the layout of this city.”

“Oh, good. It would appear that I haven’t held anything up.” “Now, as for the Amendment in particular, I believe that my position is semi-well established. I cannot abide capital punishment, not just for the ethical issues, but the bare facts of the matter. It does nothing but satisfy a knee jerk emotional reaction, and, as you may or may not know, I prefer my government to be run with as little emotion as possible. Of course, while steering the Great Ship Of State, some emotion is to be expected, but I would very much prefer to base as little policy on it as possible. Perhaps that’s one of my failures, that I listen too little to my heart. But-this is neither place nor time for that sort of thing.”

“On abortion, I myself am of a strange mind. I will be the first to admit that it has never been a particular core issue of mine. Yet, I cannot see the logic behind its prohibition. Or rather, I do-I just find it lacking in rigor and validity.”

Parliament Divided Amidst Life Amendment

Julia Svensson-July 25, 2019
Politics

Sankta Hilda News 5 is an independent and neutral news network. The following piece has been reviewed and edited as to not display a partisan bias in our news reporting

We knew it wouldn't be popular with everyone. We knew it'd receive hate and praise all at the same time. But, we didn't know to what degree. And what we have witnessed here is an omen for things to come for other controversial bills.

The Life Amendment, written by Defense Minister Alexander Norberg (NPP), was introduced to the chamber 2 days ago with immediate praise from by James Kendall and Mr. Norberg. But the unchallenged praise ended as Mr. Seč countered with his own argument and research he had done on the bill. Finally, after several back and forths about abortion, the division had begun.

The tally right now is:
FINAL:
Aye: 14
Nay: 12
Abstain (Present): 3
IT IS CURRENTLY: Passing with a majority

During the division however, several members from the government benches began to break rank and rebel. Mr. Miller (SHAPC) and Mr. Darrow (FPP) had announced that they'd be voting NAY on the amendment. Why? We haven't yet found out. But later, they changed their votes back to AYE and Mr. Miller said, “Madam Speaker, I have negotiated with the government and will also be changing my vote back to AYE”.

Another incident involved Mr. Filip Stenbeck. It began with his tweeting out against the PM and his vote for the amendment. He ended it with the proposition of "push(ing) them out of government". Then, members from the government benches pointed at that as a C-P member, he should be supporting the government that he's in. It'd seem fair though, since the conservatives backed the C-P tax bill into law.

The left hasn't seen such splintering and one can only wonder how long the government can contain itself before it bursts open. We are sure that as of now, the possibility of a Vote of No Confidence is on the table, being far enough away from the Confidence Vote of before.

Lance tried to breathe deeply. He was giving another speech, and it terrified him. He knew how to play the game. You make the moves, you trick your rivals, you crush everything in your path. The recent developments were only the latest development in that game. He tried to breathe deeply again. His heart still hammered in his chest, and he was still shaking. He shook his head, reaching for the needle and stabbing it into his vein.

After a moment, the shakiness and fear was gone.

Lance stood up from his desk, walking to the door. He stepped out, on to the stage. He looked out at the crowd, cheering and booing in equal number. He picked up a microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen, many of you have heard of recent events in Parliament regarding myself and my colleague Austin Miller.

Let me start by saying this: I am not content to, and never have been content to, sit on the bench and watch others make great decisions. Miller and I find this in common, and we decided, over the last day, that we would bot sit back without speaking our minds.

Therefore, we threatened the creation of a new party, and a split from the government accompanied by a blockage of government bills until we were allowed to hold higher positions of leadership. As rapid and fiery negotiations and discussion occured, the situation rapidly developed.

Neither of us will be leaving the government, though Miller is changing parties from SHAPC to NPP.

As part of the agreement that was struck, I have been made into the new Deputy Leader of the FPP. I do not know if Miller has achieved such success.

Let me be clear: I support the Life Amendment, and I will fight to get it passed.

As Deputy Leader of the FPP, I will continue to support freedom and liberty, and I will protect the rights and liberties of the entire citizenry of St. Hilda, starting with the rights and liberties of the unborn child."

Lance listened to a loud outcry of cheers and boos as he stepped off stage.
Long live Liberalia!

Birgitta's feet were on fire. Rushing through the city streets in high heels was never going to end well, but as disorganised as usual she was running late. She at least knew the way fairly well, having grown up in the city suburbs. As she darted into the restaurant with a light sweat, she goaned around to find the colleagues she was meant to be meeting.

"Afternoon gentlemen," she said, taking a seat and putting her suit jacket on the back of her chair, "sorry I'm late."

Sköldsvik sat in the back of a taxi on the way to the garden, caught up in the worst traffic he’d seen in the city for a long time. He would be late for the meeting to discuss new policy initiatives.

The left desperately needed to be revitalised. St Hilda was creeping to the right. Abortion had just been heavily restricted and the proposal for a referendum on the monarchy shot down. Both with the “old left” of the People’s Labour Party complicit.

His thoughts and personal grievances were interrupted as he arrived at the restaurant and found the colleagues he wished to meet.

I'm proud to be a St. Hildan today as we passed the Life Amendment to protect unborn children and punish criminals. After they lost, the Opposition threw a tantrum, including profanity, insults, and throwing things. We clearly have the ability to govern - the SLP does not.

Outrage has been expressed today as James Penta, Green MP for Ärmvika, was caught wearing a T-shirt with the words "FUCK NORBERG. FUCK THE LIFE DEATH AMENDMENT" before he jetted off to visit some of his family in Sweden. He has not yet commented on the matter.

Alright Austin, I think we should get back where we left on the Tax Bill we've been working on. What is your opinion on tax brackets?

Don't give up chap. This is important, and this bill is very vague. There is still a chance for you, so don't surrender yet.

Although it is definitely true that preventing abortion is detrimental to just about everyone, including the child, I have never been an eloquent speaker on the topic. That is not my arena. It is, essentially, the creation of a framework from which to build a society that works for all in the State that concerns me.”

"And how can we most effectively achieve that?"

“One would begin with infrastructure and education. Infrastructure, highways, railroads, buses-beyond creating jobs in and of themselves, both in construction and maintenance, also create exponential growth. It is not enough to merely create goods, one must be able to sell them. Education-well, I trust that you are knowledgeable enough to know the tangible benefits of education towards breaking the The Cycle of Poverty. Accessible, universal education is one of the most neglected things in modern nation-building, yet still one of the most necessary. Once you have those two things, you build a social safety net. Assistance for the poor, healthcare, and the like. You have that, and from that framework you can begin to get into deep questions of State.
