“The times just printed this in the newspaper. It’s on their website too.”

Everything you need to know about the politics of Saint Hilda and the people influencing it

Saint Hilda is a unitary state with a parliament and several municipalities ruled by a Prime Minister that consists of several municipalities as local governments. The capitol, Fort Ulrika, just held the nation’s elections, with roughly 52% of citizens voting for the conservative Saint Hilda All Patriot’s Congress (SHAPC) party. This is the complete guide to the politics of Saint Hilda, and who’s influencing them.

  • James Kendall- the conservative SHAPC candidate for city commissioner managed to win over the capitol, something no one thought a former prosecutor could manage. After Kendall won the primaries, it was smooth sailing as he made promises to fix the education system, and to help the garbage collectors on strike. Once the former CEO of a small tech company, Kendall puts the people, not his party, first.

  • Austin Miller, the Deputy Leader of SHAPC, had his breakout moment when he challenged the Acting Speaker of parliament’s authority... and got kicked out. This prompted a series of threats and assaults made to the speaker, although Miller was not affiliated with them.

  • Lance Darrow is an independent candidate for Prime Minister who made headlines after he joked about assaulting the Acting Speaker.

  • Viktoria Ljungstrand is SLP’s candidate for Prime Minister, and as Saint Hilda’s top advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, she rose to the top and is now being endorsed by the whole Liberal-Green alliance. Ljungstrand is known for protecting the rights of all citizens in Saint Hilda.

  • Furst Carl Vilhelm Nils Göran von Leslie af Jäskis, more commonly known as Carl Von Leslie, is the conservative candidate for Prime Minister. He is a moderate national conservative, and isn’t as outspoken as many other members of parliament. As the leader of the National People’s Party (NPP), Von Leslie has contributed to the party’s success and under his leadership the party grew significantly.

  • Helena De Willoughby Shah was the speaker of parliament until she collapsed, when an Acting Speaker took over and Anni-Frid Kristensen won the race for speaker, since she was the only nominee.

  • James Penta was arrested for threatening to kill the Acting Speaker, urinating on him, and assaulting police officers in the chamber.

“It’s pretty good. It includes short descriptions of all the major politicians and what they’ve done so far.”

“May I remind the honourable member that the Sunday Sport will forever be a better joke paper than this.

Also, I’d like to congratulate the new prime minister.”

Chuikov held back a laugh, as he got up from his seat. "I congratulate Mr. Carl von Leslie on winning the Prime Minister's election. We will almost certainly not agree with each other, but I hope that his premiership is a prosperous one for Sankta Hilda." He raised his drink too. "To Sankta Hilda!" He was almost certainly going to try to make sure that this was a tradition whenever a new Prime Minister was elected.

Having worked hard to defeat Ljungstrand and build the coalition, Norberg happily shakes the hands of the party leaders Salomon, Forsman, Nygaard, Larsson, among others. He then congratulates the new Prime Minister, his friend Carl Von Leslie.

Carl von Leslie walks to the podium and starts speaking.

"I would like to offer my utmost thanks to my esteemed colleagues in this chamber for entrusting me, Carl von Leslie, with the responsibility that is the premiership. With recent events excepted, Saint Hilda is a relatively peaceful nation. We shall continue to maintain that peace by continuing forward in an ever-changing world. We will have to adapt to new challenges, such as global climate change and supply-chain disruptions, but we will, for the most part, be able to maintain peace and prosperity for all of our citizens.

"In this day and age, no one can be certain of anything anymore. We are prone to taking this peace and prosperity we have for granted, and that can change at any time, as suddenly as God Almighty sees fit. While we are in the process of correcting social ills in our nation, that does not change the fact that we are still in the process of correcting them. Saint Hilda has made great strides in making its promise available to all of her inhabitants, not just those who are historically privileged, and that is admirable, but the work to do so is still ongoing and incomplete.

"We in the National People's Party, the Free People's Party, the Freedom Union, and the rest of my administration will work to achieve justice for all Saint Hildans without alienating those who have been historically privileged by our society. Our government will support a green investment bank that will offer support for environmentally-sustainable business. We will work with our friends in the opposition on transportation infrastructure so that Saint Hilda's economy can improve, and not just for those at the top. A Saint Hilda that works for all is a stronger Saint Hilda.

"However, it is not just the downtrodden that will be included in our vision. Ensuring the success of all Saint Hildans involves the top, too. We will convince domestic business to stay and convince foreign business to invest in our vision. We will not raise taxes and we will seek to lower them whenever possible. Onerous regulations that neither prevent harm to our natural beauty nor discourage erosion of our cultural traditions will be cut when necessary. The downtrodden will not be able to join in any form of prosperity unless the top would be willing to work with them.

"While Saint Hilda is moving forward, we cannot forget our heritage. We are in a unique position in the Caribbean as a former Swedish colony with mostly Swedish inhabitants. We welcome difference, and we fancy ourselves a tolerant, open society, but some of us feel that our culture is under threat. Saint Hilda is a free society, but we cannot forget who we are. English will not blot out Saint Hilda's rich history of linguistic pluralism. We will encourage the use of the Swedish language in business, as well as other local languages. We will also keep the Lord's day holy. We will impose controls on stores operating on Sundays, not just to keep the Sabbath, but to guarantee a day of rest for all. We won't disappear into the global cultural milieu.

"Of course, we will maintain our relationship with the Swedish monarchy, His Majesty the King, and his appointed representative to our nation. Our monarchy does not exist to appease phony traditionalists. The monarchy offers protection from the intemperate wiles and passions of a majority that can make hasty, ill-informed decisions. The monarchy is a tool to preserve our freedom. We will not sever our historical links to Sweden.

"Our unique nation, Saint Hilda, will be freer, more united, and more prosperous under my premiership, aided by my most trusted ministers. The members of this chamber who have selected me for the premiership will not regret their decision. Thank you all."

Von Leslie steps down from the podium.

I imagine the cabinet to be a sort of dark burgundy, probably no more than 2m tall, and most likely not from IKEA.

Christofer Larsson stayed on his seat, looking to the new prime minister with a large smile on his face. "Good luck, Carl!" he said to van Leslie when he met him after the speech. "I'm really happy, as exponent of CPC and as a colleague, to support you for the entire time of your mandate. I hope that our cooperation will go on stronger than it ever been!" And then he shacked his hand. He was very happy that Carl won the elections... and that Viktoria lost it.
