Well, hello everyone! Been a while since I was last active but school year's finally done for me so I'm back online. While I've not played a Naruto RP before, this has me rather interested. Tried to be thorough without falling into TL;DR territory - I might've already had too much fun writing this little thing. And given we're all ANBU, I balanced this character on being an elite jonin, if a specialist of sorts with realistic issues that some spec ops and normal people fellows struggle with because I like opportunities for character development and interaction! Also tied in a fair bit of canon and RP lore from what I read on this thread. Obvious inspiration from Rurouni Kenshin and a few Naruto canon characters, as well as several characters from the light novel series Chivalry of a Failed Knight. Thus far, each use has left Himura bedridden for nearly twenty-four hours due to exhaustion and damage done to his body. This technique has been described as the concept of a slash. It is Himura’s greatest and most terrible technique as both his greatest weakness and greatest strength. He hypothesizes he could possibly combine it with opening the Eighth Gate of Death to cut space-time and distort reality, but he would die doing so.

Strengths: Operational agility, adaptability, and deniability. Small-scale team tactics and communications. Direct action, counterterrorism, unconventional warfare, covert operations, clandestine operations. Special reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence collection and analysis, conducting counterintelligence. Infiltration, tradecraft, espionage, sabotage, assassination. Item retrieval, hostage rescue, executive protection, resource acquisition. Battlefield forensics, investigation. Demolitions and breaching. Survival, evasion, resistance, apprehension avoidance, and escape in ordinary and extreme environments. Extreme survival and wilderness training. Maintaining a calm, steady, and focused state of mind despite extreme pain or distress.

Extremely precise chakra control due to Byakugan, Hyuga tenketsu abilities, and extremely low natural chakra reserves. Expert sensor and tracker due to apparent immunity to genjutsu – as his acute vision allows him to see its flaws and influence – and all-around penetrating telescopic vision via Byakugan and Mind’s Eye of the Kagura; current maximum range is sixteen kilometers and maximum acuity of four hundred nanometers. Very knowledgeable about abilities of most Konoha ninja and many ninja of other Hidden Villages due to long-time remote surveillance via Byakugan, Mind’s Eye of the Kagura, and memorizing the most recent publication of the Bingo Book. Extremely perceptive and insightful due to those techniques and years of neglect forcing Himura to teach himself techniques based solely on reading books, observing others and experimenting on his own.

Master kenjutsu and nintaijutsu specialist who combines his Seven Secret Swords, Gentle Fist, Strong Fist, opening seven of the Eight Gates, medical ninjutsu, Yang Release ninjutsu, Lightning Release ninjutsu, and fuinjutsu. Expert with barrier ninjutsu and fuinjutsu; can identify, create, bypass, disrupt and destroy most types of sensory barriers, defensive barriers, and chakra seals. Expert medical-nin; can identify, create and use most medicines, illnesses, potions, poisons, and antidotes. Dancing, whether formal ballroom or casual freestyle. Court etiquette in the Land of Fire.

Also very skilled at domestic work, especially cooking and cleaning. And his reputations as “Battosai,” “Beniiro Ageha,” “Konoha’s Red Sword,” “Konoha’s Crimson Flash,” and “The Oikage.”

Weaknesses: Extremely low natural chakra reserves. Entirely incapable of using genjutsu because of inability to perceive illusions; relies upon cosmetics and clothing to disguise himself unless an ally can disguise him using genjutsu. Lacks long-range, area-of-effect, and damage-over-time offensive and defensive abilities. Expert melee attackers with longer-reaching weapons like polearms and expert ranged physical attackers such as archers may pose significant threats due to his lack of ranged offensive and defensive techniques. Unable to use any other elemental nature transformations besides Lightning and Yang Releases. Very resource-intensive fighting style in terms food, materials and time needed to prepare seals, eat, convert calories to chakra and store in seals. Certain space-time ninjutsu can bypass his sensory abilities via teleportation.

While Himura developed or emulated most of his techniques to bypass or overcome his innate chakra weakness, he's not at the level of their original masters. Himura is not the Sannin, Hiruzen, Minato, or Kushina, who can all instantaneously cast high-level, chakra-intensive sealing techniques on the chaos of a battlefield - Himura needs to prepare things beforehand for deployment. Nor is he Tsunade with her insane strength or chakra control - he's utterly failed to emulate her Strength of a Hundred and Creation Rebirth, much less her Yin Seal: Release and combo techniqu - though his lower-rank medical skills are closer to her level. Himura also can't match the Fourth Raikage, Hiashi Hyuga, or Might Guy in direct competition of relevant techniques; he's simply an expert at imitation. All he really has to call his own are his Seven Secret Swords and related unique nintaijutsu techniques. However, Himura still needs to close the distance to make most of those work effectively, or at all.

Activation of Cursed Seal on forehead by Hyuga Clan main house members can cause Himura to experience extreme pain and even death; causes him to be beholden to their wishes in all matters, as even with his fuinjutsu expertise, he cannot damage it without causing extreme pain, or destroy it without killing himself. Rift with the adult members of the Hyuga Clan due to their neglect of him as a “freakish half-blood failure” they perceive as their greatest living stigma. Struggles somewhat to make financial ends meet due to resource expenditures, which only drives him further towards more dangerous, higher-paying missions.

Struggles to live with unrecognized and unmanaged Asberger’s syndrome. Still poor at socializing outside of professional or laboratory context in personal capacity due to difficulty in demonstrating empathy, seeking shared enjoyments, reciprocating emotions, and need to consciously make facial expressions. Often displays selective mutism; not speaking to most people, and excessively so to people they like. Tends towards literal interpretations of speech due to difficulty understanding nuance, figurative language, and the intent of humor. Forces himself to live by strict behavioral guidelines but applies his rules in awkward ways that make him appear rigid, such as speaking very formally. Low desire for companionship due to long history of failed social encounters. Intensely restricted and repetitive interest in and pursuit of shinobi methods and matters and the idea of “serving as a son must serve.”

Also addicted to and highly dependent on his personally developed military ration pills due to the powdery scales donated by his Shinobi Ageha butterfly summons.

Bio: Himura was born into the branch family of Hyuga Clan, a distinguished household that has produced superior shinobi for generations and holds its position as the most powerful and prestigious of the four Noble Clans of Konoha. Himura is the youngest son of Hikaru Hyuga, a second cousin to Hiashi Hyuga, and Hitomi Uzumaki, a refugee of Uzushio and first cousin of Kushina Uzumaki. His parents met when Hikaru was an ANBU operative and rescued Hitomi as she fled Uzushio during its fall. They fell in love soon after, married, and bore Himura.

While Hitomi died giving birth to him, he inherited her red hair and his father’s eyes. However, Himura was born with extremely poor personal chakra reserves. And, as he matured, he displayed the symptoms of Asberger’s syndrome. Himura was neglected and scorned due to his status as a branch family member, being born a “freakish half-blood failure” with red hair, white eyes, poor chakra reserves and Asberger’s syndrome. As a branch family member and “failure,” he was taught from a young age by every adult and youth to obey the commands of the main house and “to serve as a son must serve.”

At age four, Himura received his Cursed Seal. After that day, there was never a seat saved for him at celebrations, much less daily meals, and Himura would be locked down in his little basement room. The Elders then barred him from training beside other family members and even use of training equipment. Adults avoided direct interaction with him at first. Soon, they treated Himura as if he didn’t exist. The children though, they bullied him with insults and injuries until all he knew was isolation despite living in a clan compound of hundreds. His father’s absence due to long-duration ANBU missions abroad only increased his sense of isolation.

So Himura chose to embrace it and started training on his own. Spent most hours entirely alone in quiet libraries or isolated training grounds studying shinobi techniques and history. He was determined to make his father proud – and his mother. After privately awakening his Byakugan at age five, Himura began teaching himself the Gentle Fist fighting style by only observing his relatives training. It seemed so slow-going and hard, but he kept at it, convincing himself that self-discipline would be enough to catch up with his peers.

It wasn’t. When Himura entered the Academy, nothing changed. His Clan’s reach extended far and the instructors neglected or discriminated against him. His peers quickly followed their example and Himura found himself isolated at home and school. Worse, he was underperforming in spars and exams. He seemed to have little natural talent. The lack of assistance – moreover, harm – his instructors and peers paid him helped not at all. So Himura started skipping class, again spending most hours at the library or isolated training grounds.

At age seven, Himura was told by Hiashi Hyuga that his father was killed-in-action by Kumo ninja. That day was also his seventh birthday. Too, he’d just been destroyed in a spar at the Academy by a scion of the Hyuga Clan main house and failed a theory exam. It was then that Hiashi also spoke to Himura for the last time in his memory, saying, “You can’t do anything, so don’t try,” without even looking at him. Himura gave up.

He ran away from home that night but soon found himself lost in the Forest of Death where he realized no one would be sad if he died. There Himura was saved from death by the Fourth Hokage, Konoha’s Yellow Flash, and Kushina Uzumaki, last princess of Uzushio. They took him to their home, bathed, clothed, fed, and healed him. It was the first time he remembered crying as he broke down under the weight of it all. They comforted him, advised him, and offered to help train him. That night, they inspired Himura to pursue his dreams and never give up again. A third wanted to master fuinjutsu and space-time ninjutsu. A fourth to walk in his father’s footsteps to join ANBU. And a fifth to unlock his Uzumaki heritage. In the end, he resolved to pursue all five and be more than his heritage. At this time too, Himure started remotely observing many senior shinobi training in Konoha using his Byakugan, particularly members of the Hyuga, Uchiha, and Akimichi Clans, as well as Sakumo Hatake, Kakashi Hatake, Might Duy, Might Guy, and Raido Namiashi. And he began the long and arduous process of emulating their tactical and technical skills, and their mindsets.

Months passed and Himura showed remarkable improvement. He even started talking to his fellow classmates Yugao Uzuki, Hana Inuzuka, Hayate Gekko, and Izumi Uzumaki. And by age eleven, Himura was scoring at the top of his class in each exam and went undefeated in spars that year.

That is, until a much younger student joined his class. Itachi Uchiha. Itachi immediately outperformed everyone. Some of Himura’s peers envied or scorned the new student. A few tried to bully him and failed utterly. Himura instead welcomed him, offering to study and train together with his friends. So that’s what they did. He felt a small connection to Itachi; both intensely focused on shinobi activities and interested in history. But four months later, Itachi graduated early on his seventh birthday midst warm goodbyes. It was the first friend Himura felt sad about missing, but a feeling he soon moved on from. And a few months later, Himura graduated top of his class at age twelve with the third-highest scores by Academy records. That night, he celebrated his graduation and genin promotion with his friends at the Hokage’s own home.

However, that night was also that of the Hyuga Affair. In its aftermath, Himura received general notice from the Hyuga main house that he avenge their clan and his father. It was first time he agreed with something they shared with him.

The following day, Himura was assigned to the genin team led by Shikaku Nara, who was selected to train them as a team of combat medics. In the following months, Shikaku allowed them access the Nara Clan Medical Encyclopaedia for study as they trained and completed missions together and alongside other teams. Himura also began branching out in nintaijutsu by developing his own fighting style based on several techniques he derived from his years of observing other ninja.

Soon after Himura turned thirteen, Shikaku applied their team for the Chunin exam held in Kumo. During their time there, Himura remotely observed the Fourth Raikage and other Kumo ninja training and he strove to emulate them. That, and trying to discover who killed his father, if to no avail. His genin team passed the initial team-based round of combat without significant issue. However, both of his teammates were defeated in the individual rounds. Only Himura emerged victorious and proved worthy of promotion to Chunin based on his tactical and technical skill. Upon returning home to Konoha, the Fourth Hokage offered Himura the opportunity to sign a dormant summoning contract: the Shinobi Ageha butterfly summoning contract. Himura accepted and started training with his new partners, including the development of the modern military ration pill used by Konoha using his companions' powdered wing scales.

To further practice his expertise in fuinjutsu, Himura immediately applied to serve on the Konoha Barrier Team. He was selected within a week and spent the next four years rotating between its Detection and Interception Divisions. During his period, Himura continued his pursuit of other techniques, particularly evolving his nintaijutsu.

At age seventeen, Himura applied for Jonin examination. He passed on his first attempt upon revealing his achievements of opening the Seventh Gate of Wonder and creating his own S-rank technique at such a young age.

Himura then applied to serve in ANBU. Once more, he was selected within a week. He then underwent eighteen months of intense training and graduated top of his class again. Due to that feat, Himura could apply for whatever position he desired. He chose the elite Team Ro under the leadership of the legendary Kakashi Hatake, and alongside other famed shinobi like Itachi Uchiha and Yugao Uzuki, with whom he renewed acquaintance. The next few years passed by both too swiftly and so slowly at times between endless hours of training and completing hundreds of missions, including twenty-four S-rank. One such mission was to help guard Kushina Uzumaki as she gave birth. It was a mission Himura failed, as he was critically injured and incapacitated by an unknown enemy who bypassed his sensory ability via an unknown space-time ninjutsu and caused the deaths of two people Himura dearly looked up to. Another S-rank mission Himura participated in was the purge of the Uchiha Clan concurrent with their failed coup, during which Himura lost more than a few comrades, and even a friend.

After that last disaster, Team Ro was disbanded and its members all went separate ways. Himura remained in ANBU, sometimes acting as an specialist attached to other teams who need medical or sealing expertise. More often, he deployed for long-duration clandestine infiltration missions as an independent deep-cover operative in organizations or territories hostile to Konoha and the Land of Fire. After a couple years of such assignments, Himura found himself feeling isolated and knew he couldn’t endure that much longer.

So, a week ago, he applied to a newly formed ANBU squad and was personally selected by the Third Hokage for placement. And now here he is.

Thank you! Anything more I should change then? I'll certainly change Himura's genin team members, as that was rather silly of me not to read everyone else's apps! I might add in a few bits to his bio, and a weakness I didn't directly state before - the threat of expert melee attackers with longer-reaching weapons like polearms, ranged physical attacks, and his inability to use any other elemental nature transformations.

And I'm glad you picked up on all that! Himura obviously developed or emulated most of those skills to bypass or overcome his innate chakra weakness, but he's simply not at the level of those techniques' real masters. He's not the Sannin, Hiruzen, Minato, or Kushina, who can all instantaneously cast high-level, chakra-intensive sealing techniques on the chaos of a battlefield - Himura needs to prepare things beforehand for deployment. Nor is he Tsunade with her insane strength or chakra control - he's utterly failed to emulate her Strength of a Hundred and Creation Rebirth, much less her Yin Seal: Release and combo technique, though his lower-rank medical skills are closer to her level. He can't match the Fourth Raikage or Might Guy in direct competition of relevant techniques, as they are masters, he's simply an expert by imitation. All he really has to call his own are his Seven Secret Swords and related unique nintaijutsu techniques. Though he needs to close the distance to make most of those work effectively, or at all. I'll include these things too in weaknesses to spell out everything for you to make your work easier when you reference his app for building encounters.

So to clarify the timeline, this is after Itachi massacres the Uchiha clan, yes?

Because of the plot divergence, it actually ends up being that the Uchiha last long enough to attempt to go through with the coup and are defeated in the process. This would have been recently but honestly I hadn’t put a hard time on it yet. I would say it’s been 1-2 years since that happened.

That'd be scary effective against many foes. You could even deploy it using seals to create a barrier acting like a bounded field and tag friendlies with a counter-seal to render them immune. Or something?
