Major Foreign Issues: Owning cored land from most of its neighbors, the Italian Empire is surrounded by hostile neighbors who want to see their rightful land retuned and the Empire to be dismantled.

History:
Upon hearing the news of Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassination at the hands of a Serbian Nationalist, the Italian government met with officials from Austria-Hungary and Germany to discuss what to do about the escalating situation. In the Trento Conference, Italy agreed to reaffirm its support for Austria-Hungary and the Triple Alliance in exchange for them ceding the regions of Trento, Gorizia, and Cherso to Italy by July 1, 1914. The Regia Marina made itself present near the islands of Malta and Corsica, as soldiers were mobilized in case of a fight. Defenses were erected to defend Italian Libya and Italian colonies in East Africa as well. The Austrians declared war on Serbia on July 23, 1914, and Italy followed suit, preparing its forces for war. Partial mobilization was complete, but the Army still needed time. They waited into August, as the idiotic Ottomans decided to attack both the Russians (who had remained quiet with Serbia) and the British.

The Kingdom of Italy would launch a pre-emptive strike against France, decimating their entire Mediterranean Fleet within a month and pushing into the Alps. Corsica would be conquered, as the Italians pushed into French African colonies. Great Britain would soon declare war on the Italians, forcing them to go on the offensive. Malta would fall after a 2-month siege, with the Italians conquering British Somaliland and invading Egypt. Italian forces fight the Battle of El-Alamein, in an attempt to break British defenses in Egypt. The Boer Revolt in South Africa, supported by the NIS, rose up and fought a guerrilla war against the British for 5 months. Malta was finally conquered, as the war against France continued onwards. However, the Italians were defeated by the British at Rhodes, forcing them to reevaluate their naval strategy. The Australians did attempt a naval invasion, but it was quickly repelled by the Italians.

Pope Benedict XV was assassinated on a trip to Dublin by a native Englishman, causing an outrage among Italians. Recruitment skyrocketed, as support for the war increased severely. The Regia Marina raided the British port of Gibraltar, causing major damage to the harbor and its defenses. They also engaged the Australian Fleet in Praslin, decimating the entire Australian battleship Fleet in one strike. The Italians launched 2 naval invasions of French Algeria in conjunction with a land invasion through the Sahara Desert. This managed to conquer the entirety of French North Africa in less than a month. With German assistance, the Battle of El Alamein continued to bog down into a stalemate. The Kingdom of Italy officially annexed the County of Nice, the Duchy of Savoy, and the island of Corsica from the French. The Alpine Front had forced the French all the way to the Rhône River, and many major cities in Southern France fell to the Italians. The islands of Socotra fell to an Italian naval invasion. Gibraltar and Egypt were bombed by the Italians, preparing for a potential invasion of both places. The remaining French coastline in the Mediterranean was blockaded by the Regia Marina, as they prepared to lock down the sea from the Entente. The NIS funded a pro-Central Powers coup in Persia, gaining them as a neutral but economically important ally. Meanwhile, San Marino voted to join the Kingdom of Italy.

Operation Oasis, a planned land invasion of Egypt through the Libyan Desert, was conducted to go around British defenses in Egypt. This offensive would cut off over 300,000 British soldiers in Northern Egypt and lead the way for a final victory in North Africa. A secret meeting of Italian and Spanish officials in Madrid was covered up by the NIS, with the goal of secretly convincing the Spanish to join the war. The Alpine Front stagnated, as the French High Command finally pulled itself together and erected defenses along the Rhône River. Espionage and counter-espionage was a common occurrence on the Alpine Front, as the Italian Occupation of French Territory was brutal for the civilian population. Black Hounds, Italian submarines, ravaged Entente convoys daring to go through the Mediterranean. The Italians finally managed to conquer the whole of British Egypt after a month long campaign, forcing the British deeper into Sudan. Ethiopia was invaded by the Italians to extend the front and finally kick the British out of Sudan and Kenya. Soon Ethiopia would surrender, and the British colonies of Uganda and most of Kenya would fall to the Italians.

The French would launch a major counter-Offensive against the Italians in the Alps, forcing them to a secondary defensive line deeper in the Alps. However, the Spanish entry into the war elevated the Italians, and opened a third front against the French. Italian support was sent to Spain in the form of economic aid and volunteers. A rigged election in Trieste allowed for the Italians to annex them. With the Fall of the Suez Canal and the Spanish conquest of Gibraltar, the gates of the Mediterranean were sealed from any Entente ships. Cyrus would fall shortly afterwards, as no British reinforcements were coming. The Italians turned their forces to Spain, and with the NIS helped them repress any revolts against the Spanish government. The Regia Marina was dispatched to aid the Spanish Navy in defending its coastline. Black Hounds were send out to the Atlantic to raid Entente convoys.

The British and Italians met in Lisbon to discuss an end to the war. However, negotiations broke down and turned violent. Evidently the NIS blew up the building in which negotiations were being held, completely ceasing all negotiations and causing the Portuguese to declare war on Italy and Spain. The Spanish now had to fight a 2-front war in Europe, but managed to hold itself together with the help of the Italians. The Spanish Offensive into Africa was quickly repelled, as Spanish Equatorial Africa was conquered and the Spanish on the retreat. The Italians were sent in and barely held the line in Spanish West Africa. The Italians managed to conquer the entirety of British Kenya and Uganda, and began sending troops to German Southeast Afrika to relieve the besieged forces. France launches a second wave of counterattacks with help from the British, but Italy managed to hold the line. The British and Italians get into another naval conflict in the Canary Islands. This time, the Italians managed to pull off a victory, forcing the British to fall back in a devastating loss of ships.

As the front in Western Europe stagnates, the Spanish and Italians decide to launch a new offensive against the Entente in the Winter of 1916-1917. Spain would attack along the coastline and Italy would invade through the Sahara Desert. This Offensive managed to conquer most of the British and French colonies in West Africa, and liberated the occupied German and Spanish colonies. By the Spring of 1917, Western Africa would of been effectively under the control of the Central Powers save for some guerilla fighting in the interior. The Germans began the Schlieffen Plan to end the war against France, invading through Belgium and Luxembourg. Italy decided this was the moment and renewed the offensive in Alpine Front, attacking French defensive lines and gaining some ground. The Belgian Congo was also invaded by a combined Italian, German, and Spanish Offensive. France would fall by July, as the Italians reached the Rhône River once again. Portugal would fall by the end of Summer with a combined Spanish-Italian attack seizing Lisbon. Great Britain would surrender in the Fall of 1918 seeing the hopelessness of the situation.

The post-war Treaty of Berlin ended the war and allowed for Italy to become a major power on the world stage. Italy acquired new colonies and a new found respect among the nations of the world. Post-War Italy will be focused on administering its new territories and continuing to expand its armed forces. Italy would spend the rest of the 1910’s and the early 1920’s suppressing riots and protests across the country and their colonies, while extending the control of the King. The Italian Africa Corps would crush various African tribes and groups to control the entirety of its territory. The Italian King would eventually disband Parliament, and declare the Italian Empire in 1921 once the turmoil inside the Empire was cleansed. The NIS would become the secret police and intelligence service, and the military the enforcers of Italy across the globe. The NIS would fund various nations and governments to extend Italy’s influence abroad. Most notably in China during 1925, where the Italians sent supplies to the Chinese Nationalists to fight the warlords and Mongolians.

The March on Rome would occur in 1921, protesting the new authoritarian government and its policies of imperialism. Fascist and Communist forces would meet in the thousands and march towards the city of Rome. The NIS would pick up on this and notify the military. A major battle erupted in the outskirts of Rome, but the rebellion would be brutally put down. Benito Mussolini would be arrested and executed for treason days after the fighting. Austria-Hungary would attempt to reform itself in 1923 by creating a Triple Empire with Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. The Hungarian crown protested, and with help from the NIS they convinced the Hungarians and Serbians to rebel. This caused the Austro-Hungarian Empire to devolve into a bloody civil war. Italy would soon invade, seeing its chance to expand its territory. Italy invaded Austria-Hungary both land and navally. After a year of fighting, Germany intervened and ended the conflict. Italy acquired new land in the Adriatic Sea and complete control over Albania.

The 1920’s saw the Italian Economy skyrocket in growth, as the GDP rose to extraordinary heights. Production of god expanded as consumers continued to buy new products. Political opposition was silenced by the NIS, and the military would continue to fight a brutal campaign to rid out the last remaining African resistance. 1930 saw the Italian Economy go into a 13-month recession period followed by economic stagflation. This period of economic decline would continue into 1936, although the government would do its best to solve this issue. The Government would root out its incompetent military command during the 1930’s, instead appointing them upon merit and accomplishments. Such as during the 1929 Ethiopian Revolt, which was brutally put down by Field Marshal Rodolfo Graziani. He was promoted to General and put on the Italian High Command soon after. The NIS did its best to put down dissent within the Italian Empire, but the Organization had to deal with problems not just in Italy, but on the international scene as well. The last remaining African guerrilla group would surrender in 1934.

Capital: London
Territory: The UK and it's overseas territories (Canada, South Africa, Sierra Leone, India, etc) in crimson
Core: British Isles
Population: 127,252,810
Type of Government: Unitary Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy + Fascist One-Party State
Government Explaination: Since 1931, the country is under the authoritarian rule of the GBNP (Great British National Party). The King is more ceremonial and less symbolic as the Prime Minister, currently Oswald Mosley, has absolute power as head of the ruling GBNP. The Parliament, composed of the House of Lords and the House of Commons, is absolutely under GBNP control as the party has the most seats. The overseas territories of the UK, such as Canada, South Africa and India, are under strictly direct rule of the GBNP. Other parties are banned and the fascist government had made plans to reform the UK in it's ideological vision. Unlike the previous governments, the fascist government has total control of the UK to the point it is more powerful than the British monarchy.

Machine ideas:
  • Wyvern-class Air Battleship - This air battleship is heavily armored and able to take on many fighter planes whose ammunition ain't enough to penetrate the ship's heavy armor. Beside the armor, the ship is also fitted with double-barreled tank cannons, machine guns, side cannons and a huge cannon underneath. The ship is mainly specialized in aerial warfare and will be used by the Royal Navy. The class will also include aircraft carriers and even warships.
  • MK1 Armor Walker - This huge mecha is specialized in combat on any difficult terrain such as mountain combat, desert combat and snow combat. The mecha has two legs and is armed with a tank cannon, two machine guns and a small cannon beside the tank cannon that is either a grenade launcher or a machine gun. It will be used by the Royal Army.
  • C-1 British Royal Engineers Fighting Machine - This tank is to be used by the Royal Engineers for the purpose of personnel transportation, combat engineering and armoured warfare. The machine transport combat engineers to the battlefield and is armed with short tank cannons when assisting those engineers.
  • B-1 British Infantry Fighting Machine MK1 - This tank is to be used by the Royal Army for the purpose of armoured warfare. It is fitted with a regular tank MG, a tank cannon and a heavy MG. Both the tank MG and the tank cannon are used to attack enemies in front of the tank, while the heavy MG is used to attack enemies from behind. There will even be a variant which would replace the heavy MG with a tank flamethrower.
  • Storm Crow Fighter Plane - This elite fighter plane is specialized in dogfighting and will be used by the RAF. The plane is fitted with rockets on each wing and two MGs with armor-penetrating ammunition. It is good at combat maneuvering and has a great amount of speed, making it impossible for any enemy, be it a fighter plane or an anti-aircraft cannon, to destroy it swiftly.
  • MK1 Armour Soldier - This mecha is to be used by the Royal Army. It is some kind of a mechanical equivalent of the armor of a medieval knight. It is specialized in armoured warfare and will be fitted with various weapons, most notably MGs, cannons and wristblades. It can even carry out unarmed combat against any enemy tank.
Public Goals: Regain lost territory, keep control over remaining territory, maintain stable economy and technologically advance
Private Goals: Restore the British Empire, conquer Ireland, conquer Australia and destroy the Central Powers

Extra military information: The National Defence Forces would be structurally different from the current military once the UK has been reformed into the British Union.

GDP: 200,612 Million USD
GDP per Capita: £21,600

Currency: Pound Sterling (£)
Currency and value of currency compared to USD: £767.000 = $1000

Major Domestic Issues: Ideological opposition, economic stability, military expansion, remaining overseas territories, British Germans, British Italians and British Turks
Major Foreign Issues: Central Powers, Ireland and former overseas territories

History: The UK joined the Great War on July 19, 1914. On October 6, the British military clashed the Italian military on the island of Rhodes, which culminated in British victory. But suddenly, an offensive by both Italian Libya and the German Air Force helped the Italians advance 70 km in Egypt. To relieve pressure from British Sudan, who is coming under attack from both Italian Eritrea and the newly-conquered Ethiopia, the UK ordered a naval landing on the Italian town of Bereeda in Eritrea by ANZAC. The attack was hastily prepared and low in manpower, yet despite this, the Australians secured the town with little losses on October 23. But it had been a trap and a massive Italian counter-attack wiped out the entire invasion force. Over 230,000 ANZAC troops died in a single day. The UK tried to align Italy with itself and the Entente Powers, but Italy refused, so the UK instead recruited Portugal, forcing Spain into joining the Great War as a Central Power.

Even more suddenly, Australia began openly rebelling against the UK. The Australians had lost so much and all the British government did was to offer them an extra seat in the British Parliament. As chaos broke out, Italo-German special forces infiltrated the nation and freed Ned Kelly, a notorious outlaw who was given a metal leg and an armor suit from his rescuers. In exchange of his freedom, Ned Kelly and his comrades would bring down the loyalists that governed Australia on behalf of the UK until the country was eventually freed from British rule.

Back in Africa, Italy and Spain started a joint offensive into Saharan Desert following the Russian surrender. The offensive was able to capture colonies from France and the UK. By the spring of 1917, the Central Powers gained immense control over West Africa. During the Battle of Jutland, the Germans emerged victorious and the British suffered devastating casualties. The blockade at the North Sea vanished and the German Navy was able to drift towards the British Isles. The UK remained in war for a few more months, but it's chances of winning were slim to none at this stage. The British Isles were starving, British colonies were falling around them to either the Central Powers or nationalist revolutionaries, and most of their other allies had already surrendered. Eventually, by the fall of 1917, the British asked for peace with the Central Powers.

The Great War ended with the Central Powers as victors, ultimately costing the UK it's status as a great power. The UK lost many overseas territories to the Central Powers, only to retain Canada, India, Sierra Leone and South Africa. In 1918, Ireland seceded from the UK, forcing the UK to rename itself from the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" to simply the "United Kingdom of Great Britain". Years passed and things didn't get good. Workers began rioting, violence broke out between left-wing groups and right-wing groups, the economy didn't do well and the overseas independence movements grew stronger. The UK has had bad luck for a time.

In 1931, a fascist party known as the "Great British National Party" or "GBNP", led by Oswald Mosley, began gaining support and popularity due to it's ideology and promises to the British population. The party promised to make the UK great again, gain back it's old colonies, strengthen the economy and seek revenge on the Central Powers, most notably Germany. The party eventually gained seats and won the general elections that same year. The party put the country under an one-party system with itself as the sole ruling party. Other parties were banned, independence movements were quickly repressed, the economy recovered and the country made plans to become a great power again, even if it means to start a new war with the victors of the Great War.

After the GBNP rose to power, it has made many social, economic and cultural impacts. Socially, the country saw a decrease in workers' strikes and more participation for clerics, industrial executives and women in the Parliament. Economically, the GBNP began placing the British economy under syndicalism since it despised capitalism and communism. This would also be used to improve working conditions within British overseas territories such as Canada, South Africa, Liberia and India. As a result, working conditions improved and the laissez-fairie economics abolished. Culturally, the country became increasingly nationalist and revanchist. The fascist government gained absolute control over the UK and it's overseas territories. The country's German, Italian and Turkish communities started to suffer from extreme discrimination by both the authorities and the general population while Canadians, South Africans, Indians and Sierra Leoneans were given privileges. The discriminated communities were barred from political participation, economic support, public education and corporate sector. British values were promoted and the overseas territories became increasingly pro-British.

Together with possibly France and other losers of the Great War, the UK looks forward to seek vengeance and become great again. Secretly, the UK also plans for a devastating blow to Germany, Italy and the Ottoman Empire.

Would it make sense for Denikin to restore the Tsar as a Constitutional Monarch, to attempt to undermine the rebellious Russian states out in the Far East? Obviously Nicholas II is dead; but perhaps one of his relatives could be brought back?

Ah, thank you. So would Kirill be the next Tsar, then, after Nicholas II died? Would this also have Russia be closer to Germany and Italy?

Is this ok? To have the restoration of the Tsar as essentially a puppet-ruler with Denikin actually running things?

One, please spoiler the app when you quote. Second, why are you so adamant about having the Tsar?

Because I think it would be interesting to continue the Empire. But I amenable to what you think is best. I'm just asking if it would be plausible and permissible.

Hmmm. While I agree that an Empire is possibly intresting given the context of the incomptence of the Tsar in the last RP I'm not sure the position would have the faith of the people. Alright heres the deal, give me an example app of the Empire but I say no then rest the issue.

You mean with the Tsar in charge, or the Tsar as a puppet-ruler?

It’s highly improbable that the Tsar in any form would be restored. If so, expect a Civil War to occur at some point very soon in the IC.

History: With Russia's disastrous performance in World War I, and with the Bolshevik uprising in late 1916, the isolated and incompetent Tsar Nicholas II abdicated the throne in March 1917, in favor of his younger brother, Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov. Mikhail was a dutiful man, a relatively well-liked commander and a patriot who loved Russia. He willingly took upon himself the burdens of government, crowning himself Tsar Mikhail II Romanov, in April 1917, in Volgagrad; and rallied the disparate groups of the White Movement to oppose the Reds. The Russian Civil War was a time of great chaos, and as Mikhail was completely devoted to wiping out the Bolsheviks (especially after they assasinated the ex-Tsar, Nicholas II and his entire immediate family), various regions in Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Poland, the Baltic Republics, Finland) and Central Asia seceded from Russian territory. As Russia's forces were spread relatively thin, the separatists were able to win independence quite easily. In 1920, Tsar Mikhail dispatched Roman Von Ungern-Sternberg to Mongolia to clear the region and the Far East of Bolsheviks. In 1922, with the Bolsheviks driven from Western Russia, Tsar Mikhail decided to move the Imperial Capital from Petrograd to Moscow. This was a clearly symbolic move, as Mikhail was interested in undoing the Petrine Autocracy of Peter the Great, and moving to a more traditional idea of ""Old Russia". He recognized the election of Karensky as President, and allowed the Duma to also establish itself in Moscow. A Constitution was signed in 1923, which allowed the Tsar to maintain power over the Executive Branch of Government, but gave Legislative authority to the Duma and to Karensky. Furthermore, Tsar Mikhail II revived the liberal policies of his grandfather, the late Tsar Alexander II; allowing for greater local self-government, and autonomy, for example regional governors were to be appointed by the Tsar and the Duma in Moscow, but needed to be approved by a local referendum.

These Constitutionalist moves enraged some of the more hardliner Monarchist elements which Mikhail had previous dispatched to the Far East to deal with remaining Bolshevik cells. In 1924, Von Ungern-Sternberg declared himself ruler of Mongolia and seceded from the Russian Empire, as did Admiral Aleksandr Kolchak in Kamtchaka. The Tsar seemed relatively unperturbed by this sour developments in the Far East. He seemed much more concerned about rebuilding destroyed infrastructure in the West and in Siberia, and ensuring the continuation of agricultural and resource production. In 1927, while celebrating the 10th anniversary of his reign, in the Kremlin Palace, President Karensky and a group of Liberal politicians attempted to assassinate Tsar Mikhail II. The conspiracy was foiled, however, and Karensky and the other conspirators were executed by firing squad. Tsar Mikhail had all the Duma members questioned and those believed to be "part of the conspiracy"were also executed. Serious purges of the Government, Military and Bureaucratic apparatuses followed from 1927 - 1929; leading to the execution of the Liberal, Democratic element within the former White Movement. Tsar Mikhail was thus able to concentrate more power in his hands. However, he was careful not to trample on the rights given to the peasants and average citizens in the Constitution; but only targeted elites and politicians; for corruption, treason and other crimes. Meanwhile, the War in the East continued.

In the realm of Foreign Policy, Tsar Mikhail began to open relations with former rivals and enemies; in 1930, he reopened relations with Imperial Germany, and strengthened diplomatic ties with Italy and Japan, as well. Tsar Mikhail also maintained good relations with the traditional Balkans client-states; such as Serbia, Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria. Hist stance towards Poland, Ukraine, the Baltic States and Finland, were hardly as gracious, however; and there was much talk of the Tsar wanting to re-annex his former territories. However, other military ventures, tied his hands at the moment.

These are fair criticisms, and I could totally see such a situation as Valtrona described, further developping. However, what do you all think of the history, I just wrote. Am I off my rocker, or could it fit within this timeline? I'm not done developing it, of course. If I am off, how could I make it better?

Restoration doesn't make sense, but continuation of the Tsarist regime, does. Perhaps it takes a different direction, though? Perhaps you could help me in this regard?

Well, the equivalent of keeping the Tsar in Power is as likely to happen and work as the continuation of the Qing Dynasty in China. Now, I could see a scenario of a Military dictatorship and yes, maybe the leader could be a member of the Romanov Family (they likely wouldn’t of all gotten killed). But the title “Tsar” and any semblance of a Monarchy would make the Russian people very anxious of another brutal and failed regime from the Tsar.

Unless it didn't fall. Unless only Nicholas II abdicated and was later killed by the Bolsheviks. He did abdicate in favor of his younger brother, Mikhail, who was perhaps more capable than him.

It’s highly unlikely that the Tsar could stay in power. Even if Nicolas II abdicated, Russia couldn’t of stayed a Monarchy. I’d recommend doing a military dictatorship if you want to do something like a Tsarist Russia, but we already had this discussion during the original Metal on Metal and agreed that there’s no way for Tsarist Russia to remain in power.

I still don't see why not. I can understand the Fall of Nicholas II, but why would the Russian Empire itself have to fall?

No emperor, no empire.

I'm sure he'd be ok with you doing a military dictatorship but the canon is that the tsar doesn't exist anymore

Why did it fall in our timeline? When you reflect on that, then the same applies to why the Russian Empire would fall.

Fine. What about the various states around Russia? How open are those? What happened with the Ottomans, the Balkans, Greece?
