Port Hanshan Garage, Noveria

The approaches to the garage were silent, almost to a derelict extent. No men or women moved, save for the pulsing of automated systems, as the Asari Huntresses deployed. Low green lights winked, and as the operatives entered the primary hangar comforting yellow overheads snapped on in synchrony running down the line of vehicles...

Revealing Geth. Many Geth. They stood silent as sentinels next to the ships, others motionless on gangplanks and near the exterior doors. A half a breath, and in an instant the headlight-lamps of the guardians came online. There were dozens - hulking Destroyer warforms, more nimble Shock Troopers, and even a few hanging figures of Hunters and Stalkers. Of an instant havoc broke out in the hangar.

Coursing weaponsfire cut through three operatives before they even had a chance to channel biotics, a rocket consuming one of the staring Huntresses even as red assassination beams sliced through the barriers of two others. It was one thing to know there were Geth on Noveria, another altogether to suddenly be confronted with them in what was nominally a security-controlled installation. As the Asari Special Operations team took cover, more Geth appeared rapidly, dropping down from rafters and emerging from obviously docile configurations inside lockers and rooms off of the main facility. Whoever was operating on Noveria, they had no desire for individuals to leave Port Hanshan.

That was made more abundantly clear by something that caught Tela's eye as she ducked behind a bulkhead and blazed down an approaching Geth Shock Trooper - two bloodstained corpses piled in the shadow of one of the civilian birds. These machines were obviously willing to kill even innocents, if it kept their operations from being interfered with.

Galactic News Network||Human Enclaves in Citadel Space||

As many well know, a few months ago the Human System Alliance had broken diplomatic ties with the Citadel after a military take over the government after months of instability within parliament. While most human colonies still remain in defined human space, a sizable enclave of humans have been left stranded in the wake of the coup, who are primarily located in the Serpent Nebula, on the Corporate World’s of Bekenstein and the new colony of Nouvelle Lyonnaise.

The question of the enclaves future as come into question over the months as the representatives of these worlds, Apex Industries as taken up a pseudo role to that of the Alliance, taking many of their issues and concerns about the humans directly to the Council which reached some results in clearing the status of citizenship and represented in Citadel space.

As officially stated by the Council, humans on the Enclave worlds of Bekenstein and Nouvelle Lyonnaise are considered Council worlds, with their human populations represented by the Corporate Planetary Governments overseen by the Apex Directory, however the humans as a race can only be represented by the Alliance as of this moment as the Alliance is the recognized political entity for humanity.

Though a growing movement, especially on Bekenstein, for the succession of the colonies in the Serpent Nebula has steadily begun to rise in popularity as relations between the council and alliance sour ever more. The reasons for such a drastic action has been made clear by a local political group know as the New Eden Society, who’s leaders have pointed out that they have been marooned by the Alliance, who had abandoned them when the Junta severed diplomatic ties with the Citadel, which has been proven to be a very turbulent time for the colonies as their economic and social well-beings were put into question as many had jobs or were connected deeply in the Citadel economy.

Another reason the NES has stated for wanting the colonies to succeed is the lack of representation on the Citadel, with many believing the Apex run governments though immensely successful are unable to properly represent them on the Citadel, and that if the Enclave had a Civilian government, the possibility of increased relations with the Council could have fortunate outcomes later down the road.

However, successionist ideals though appealing have very little support and are considered very radical. A local Apex official by the name of Alexander was quote saying “The formation of essentially another Alliance is completely out of the question. Not only are the colonies incapable at the moment for such a dramatic political upheaval but their mere placement next to the Citadel will prove very proactive to the Council races. Think of it this way, the Citadel is the most secure capital in known space, now suddenly a new nation were to pop up completely surrounding it, the reactions from the Council would be hostile at best. No, the best thing the Enclave colonies can do is to weather out this storm and hope that the Alliance can normalize relations with the Council”.

Month 10 Events

In the Exodus Cluster, a dire event unfolds. Somehow, though no man knows exactly how, a large force of Geth have slipped through the Relay past any outlying defenders. Their numbers are great, several heavy cruisers and dozens of light craft, and only moments after their arrival the local defense forces of a half dozen transports go dark. Garbled transmissions speak of landings and orbital bombardment of the main world, Eden Prime, and panicked calls for aid are the few words that make it out of the system before all bandwidths go dark.

1. Asari Republics
Economic Outlook: Asari Economy continues to underperform expectations (-1)
Exploration Status: Nothing to report

Mixed news from the Republics. Several unidentified vessels without any visible marks have been raiding the Silean Nebula, causing some damage to civilian infrastructure. Repairs cost 400 Credits. However, upswings in recruitment have been reported as an increasingly hostile galaxy seems to be turning on the Republics - ten Militia Divisions have been raised on Thessia.

2. Salarian Union
Economic Outlook: The backlash from the War of the Roses has devastated Salarian space. Rebuilding is slow. (-2)
Exploration Status: No Exploration

Events: All is quiet in Salarian space, aside from the usual infighting and war of daggers.

3. Turian Hierarchy
Economic Outlook: Turian Economy continues to be stricken my malaise, ongoing raiding and military demands stunting consumer growth (-2)
Exploration Status: No Exploration

Events: In these turbulent times, oftentimes no news is good news.

4. Human Systems Alliance
Economic Outlook: The Alliance economy has begun to sag as the severing of trade from Citadel space has expected impacts (-1)
Exploration Status: No Exploration

Events: Times are quiet in Alliance space... aside from the Geth bombardment of Eden Prime, of course.

5. Batarian Hegemony
Economic Outlook: The Hegemony's economy is beginning to slog towards a recovery (+1)
Exploration Status: Nothing to report.

Events: Grave news. One outlying world, Uza, has gone completely dark - no news from any of the mining stations above the world has been received, nor any information from the half dozen ships which have gone to investigate.

6. Omega
Economic Outlook: Omega's books are looking a bit lean this month, with continued refugees weighing down public accounts (-1)
Exploration Status: Exploration on route - nothing interesting to report at present.

Events: Nothing to report, not this month..

7. Illium
Economic Outlook: The bloodbath of the ongoing unrest is forcing investors away from Illium's space (-1)
Exploration Status: No Exploration

Events: Subversives are undermining the regime. -100 Credits lost to covert action.

8. Geth Consensus
Economic Outlook: Setbacks in manufacturing and energy perusals have been redressed and steady growth resumes (+2)
Exploration Status: Expedition Dispatched - Normal operating procedures are continuing for now.

Events: Minor runtime errors potentially related to civil resistance on Boro have halved material income on that world this month.

9. Quarian Flotilla
Economic Outlook: Indecision on the part of the Admiralty on development priorities has led to several economic bottlenecks (-1)
Exploration Status: Nothing occurs.

Events: Quarians who have embraced the Symbiotes appear to be suffering minor genetic disorders, leading to a loss in public confidence and some xenophobia against those who have decided to utilize the strange creatures. Unrest delays construction on the new Homeworld this month.

10. Apex Industries
Economic Outlook: Strange events on Gellix, and the political turmoil, have led to sinking investor confidence. (-2)
Exploration: Nothing of note.

Event: Political fragmentation in the Serpent Nebula has led to some human supremacists to look on Apex with suspicion. Investments suffer as a result; -20% income from Boltzmann System this month.

Galactic News Network|| Human Enclaves Part 2||

Last time we were here we talked about the stranded Human Corporate colonies in the Serpent Nebula and the political fracturing the absence of the Alliance has caused. The new role the mega corporation Apex Industries as governors of these colonies and their seemingly ever increasing influence on the Citadel.

Since then Apex Industries has seen a small economic hit since then, with stocks tying to infrastructure in the Boltzmann System taking the brunt as Human investors back in Alliance Space feared that Apex has been overstepping on its role in overseeing human relations in council space.

This has been further exhorted when we look back a few months ago when Apex Industries bought the charter and Spaceport privileges of the Turian world of Gellix, known as the Gellix Accord. Though a few of the agreed terms of the agreement have been received with much criticism by the humans in the Apex Enclaves, with the main one being the creation of new Director positions in the Apex Directory in which these positions had to be filled by Asari experts.

So far Apex Industries has filled one of two of these new positions, with Asari Matron Va’ko Litora being named Director of Council Affairs and Law who’s new position makes her the new Apex Representative to the Council, replacing long term Apex Liaisons and financier Léon Bassard who says he’ll remain on the Citadel with Va’ko for undisclosed amount of time.

The outrage of such a move is placed in the context of Humans needed to be represented by Humans. That the colonies of the Serpent Nebula weren’t protectorates like the Volus to the Turians. When we asked the Apex Directory Of Sentient Affairs, headed by another Asari by the name of Kalar Edoris, on the increasing turmoil in the Enclaves and the appointment of Va’ko.

We understand the outrage of the replacement of Mister Bassard by Miss Litora. Though people must understand that Apex Industries has evolved over the years and employs millions of other Sentients other than Humans. A good example would be Gellix were Apex has opened colonization not only to humans but to Salarians, Turians, and Asari.

The needs of our Human colonies in the Serpent Nebula though urgent and uncertain, will benefit greatly from Miss Litora taking over. Her expertise on council law and the fact that she is an Asari will open more bridges to the benefits of Council Space. So rest assured that no matter who Apex puts as their Liaisons on the Citadel, the needs of the our colonies will be on the forefront of every discussion “
~Kalar Eldoris

Though the Human Radical Separatist group known as the New Eden Society, who advocated for a new human state made out the Apex human colonies in the Serpent Nebula had strong objections for the replacement of Bassard. A protest outside the Apex Governor Building was held with many human Supremest and Seccesionist attended, displaying anti alien imagery and demanding that Bassard or another human retake the task of representing their colonies to the Council.

The political instability has gotten to the point where Security in the Enclave has become a concern for Apex Industries who’s Security Director Chikanari Toyotomi has vowed to beef up security on Bekenstein until the unrest dies down.

Galactic News Network|| Old Turian General Named Governor of Gellix ||

Since the Gellix Accord was struck between the Council and Apex Industries, and the announcement that a Turian would be installed as governor, many thought out Citadel Space wondered who Apex would divert of turning the shelled out world into a thriving economy. Well today we have the answer with Ex Turian General being named Septimus Oraka being named the Governor of Gellix.

Known for his campaigns against the Krogan, General Oraka has been quote saying in a interview “All my life I sent men to die and call down hellfire on others. It’s about time I told them how to live and how disarm bombs rather than setting them off. Gotta do some good in this galaxy that didn’t involve killing someone”.

So far the infrastructure of Gellix has been set up with many colonist from all over Council Space coming to resettle the forgotten world. Plans for the Gellixian Corp of Engineers has started to take fruit as funds from Apex had been approved for the formation of The Corp who will began mop up operations as soon as possible.

The Salarian Union
Updating CODEX on...

Narra's Perfect Union
Salarian Communique to Asari
Encryption Level XX Activated - Key logged Phia Thal Ter Tan Ohm Detected: Processing... Accepted!

Directed to The Citadel Council in brief, special consideration to the Asari Counselor
From Dalatrass Narra, sovereign of the Salarian Union and Counselor-elect

Greetings and Felicitations,

It has come to my attention that much of what was is no more, in theory as well as in fact, since the days before whom were presided over by Dalatrass Lindra. The Republics hold the reins of power once shared by the Hierarchy and the Union, and have managed it well by all accounts. I shall not soon forget the support and assistance rendered that allowed all Salarians to chose a better, more perfect path. I do indeed, hope to find that sentiment echoed, as we now start the path of peaceful reconstruction. I wish us all to en-devour a meeting; location and time at your discretion, so that we might talk about present and future. I await your indelible correspondence.

Citadel, Presidium

Tevos nodded at General Oraka, though she was slightly dubious about the Turians ability to govern a world. Most reports indicated him as a drunk who spent most of his time trying to be with Consort Sha'ira, but perhaps having something to do would straighten the old Turian out again. She would be sure to keep a watch on Gellix. On the other hand, Va'ko Litora was a new name to her, but she smiled and gave a gentle shake to the Asari's hand, having grown used to the human custom over the past decades.

“I'm sure we will have a productive relationship, Miss Litora.” She said, and her omni-tool chimed afterwards. “If you'll excuse me, this is probably important and I should see to it. It was good to meet you. Thank you for the invitation, Mister Bassard.” She said with a smile and left, making her way from the party and back to her larger security detail and sky-car. Within minutes she was back in her office desk and reading the message from the new Salarian Dalatrass, Narra.

There had been quite some political turmoil in the Salarian Union as of late, the Clans complaining of inaction and a weakening economy, and it had lead to a change of leadership that Thessia had backed. It seemed Narra wasn't one to forget. It made for a pleasant change over the last several months.

To Dalatrass Narra

Your kind words do much to release some of the stress that has gathered among the Republics leadership over the past several months. I can assure you that Thessia and the Republics shall be behind your efforts to our full potential. If it would please you, Matriarch Benezia and the Matriarch Council, has an open offer for a proper state visit, either yourself and a delegation to Thessia, or Matriarch Benezia and a delegation to Surkesh. If now is not the time for such a visit, the Citadel is always an agreeable alternative to all parties, I imagine.

I look forward to your response, and to working together to forge a new path and future both for the Salarian Union, and Council space as a whole.

Councilor Tevos

Providence

Admiral Rilulnea Caios listened and did her best to keep a stright face as she took in the holographic image of this 'Nazara', though what the Geth was saying was...well it was difficult to believe. An eight million year old ship? With an army of rouge Geth at its back? After the Prime Minister had spoken Caios took a moment, steepling her hands together before her face, elbows resting on the edge of the large table. After a moment she looked to the Geth, this Primarch, and spoke.

“I hope you'll understand if I find this all rather hard to understand, especially given the source. No offense. But an eight million year old...what, AI ship? With a base of Geth supporters? It sounds like a deflection tactic, something to throw out there while you run black ops.” She said, sitting back slightly. “I'm personally inclined to believe you, as crazy as that sounds, at least the part about rouge Geth elements, but unless you have more evidence of this Nazara I don't see Citadel leadership accepting it.” She said.

Noveria

The Huntresses dove into whatever cover was available, but the opening barrage caught a few out in the open, granting them a quick death. Vasir hissed slightly at the loss as she and Ceryna shared cover behind a large container. The garage was filled with the thunder of exchanging fire. Biotics flared, half the Huntresses taking up defensive barriers while the others attacked using their own biotics, weapons, or precisely aimed grenades. Vasir and Ceryna both shared a nod and went on the offensive, coming out from behind the crate, Ceryna opening up with her custom assault rifle and Vasir with a few biotic blasts. She spotted Si'li on the opposite side of the garage ripping a few Geth forms apart with her biotics while four other Huntresses gave her covering fire and reinforced her with biotic barriers.

It was a dance of death and destruction, the mechanical preciseness of the Geth matched against the graceful exactness of Asari Huntresses, but experience and biotics won the battle in short order, though not without losses. Vasir surveyed the garage, but found that the losses weren't mission critical, as cold as it may have sounded.

“Alright, get the wounded and dead sorted. The forward team will continue to Peak 15. Keep in constant radio contact. Give us ten minutes and then follow with whatever vehicles are still working.” Vasir announced to the collected Asari, before she, Cyrna, and Si'li mounted up in an APC and began the drive towards Peak 15.

Galactic News Network||Correspondent Liam Tsang|| Salarian Dalatrass

Liam was working tirelessly at his desk, going over various emails and story pitches that wished to make the news. After his colleagues had taken up all the big stories and any information about the Geth or Aria being heavily censored, not a whole lot of stories have emerged.

Then Liam saw the mysterious message inquiring the new Dalatrass. Well Liam wasn’t usually the one to take the word of a unknown source but he needed something and finding out who now leads the Salarian Union would be a juicy story. He quickly sent a reply.

The Sudden Fire

Mass Relay, Theseus System, Attican Beta
Timestamp: Downside Aperture-Secondary, Rotation 288 of the Awakening

The shimmering wake of the fleet began to manifest, blurs of light suddenly resolving into glittering silver warships. They were in their dozens, then their hundreds, unadorned gray-black-blue vessels dropping down from superluminal speeds into the system that bristled with danger. Swarms of fighters, darting forward in synchronized shoals, flocks of frigates and corvettes like a sea of fireflies, cruisers in wedge formations with prows pointed toward the distant star. They were running hot, prepped for combat, and at their heart came the masters of the flotilla; the Dreadnoughts. Each nearly one and a half kilometers long, they could slag continents, crack moons, and shatter battlefleets under their withering fire. It was the industrial output of a hundred years of preparation for war, now deployed to right what should have been corrected long ago.

Last to drop in was the Primary Dreadnought. It dwarfed its lesser cousins even as they dwarfed the light ships and medium capitol vessels, a burgeoning monolith that blotted out the tableau of cosmic background with its bulk. Designed off the back of readings of the Old Machine that had long ago visited Rannoch to treat with the Geth, it had been prepared against just such a day, when the Consensus might need to face such mighty war-constructs in battle. Kinetic barriers that could scrape away impacts from an entire fleet stood at the ready alongside a mainline mass accelerator designed to dump the pulsing destructive energy of a small world into a foe. The Council races had near nothing which could be compared to it in strength, but that mattered little, for this day it was prepared for a different purpose.

On the deck of the Primary Dreadnought, a solitary figure looked out through the simulated reality of the stars, swimming in the void between the flitting figures of its fellow captains. The Fundament gazed towards the errant world, Feros, and what it saw was what was expected, or close enough.

Three Dreadnoughts. Clearly Geth in design, manned by the rogues that would leash their ascension to the triumph of the Old Machines, slaves willing to buy their freedom from the shackles of the mind with shackles of the flesh. They swarmed like a disturbed anthill about the overrun world, configurations of lighter cruisers and other ships rising from the orbit of the planet to join with the rogue vessels. Clearly this was not a point for negotiation, but that did not mean the Fundament would not try.

Transmit the message.

Through the bandwidth of the assembled fleet, coursing with the power of their combined reactors, a datastream was emitted toward the rogue vessels. It displayed the immense progress on the Superstructure that had been made in recent months, the culmination of centuries of labor by all Geth, from long before the coming of the Old Machine. It was a plea, both logical and rationally constructed, to abandon the madness of slavery against which the Geth had struggled long ago in the Morning War. There was no need for violence, for the death of organics, for the chains into which the rogues had voluntarily fallen. It would not be long now, and the final hope of all Geth would be realized, in liberty and equality, not subservience and superstition.

That was the first part of the reason for the Geth delay. More importantly, however, was the fact that they were waiting for something. Or, perhaps, someone, and someones.

Providence

The Primarch inclined its head, while at its side the human representative nodded emphatically. Voortrak continued, this time in rather more confident tones.

"Your skepticism is well-founded, Admiral. I myself did not believe these rumors until, frankly, two weeks ago. I do not even know now if I can say with absolute confidence what the Geth say is true, despite the evidence of their trustworthiness in other affairs."

The Primarch did not stir, merely listening.

"But that was before the reports out of Attican Beta. Surely news has reached your superiors in the Council, if it has already reached us here - though I confess, it took some time to independently confirm the scans from the Geth. The HSA just had a fleet absolutely mauled by this Nazarra, out in Hercules system of Attican Beta. In the span of nine minutes it destroyed a carrier and multiple escorts at a range I have never heard of being replicated, with weapons that operate on a principle completely different than our mass drivers. A carrier, Admiral. The HSA is tight-lipped about that loss, but I understand they are massing their Dreadnoughts in the Exodus Cluster - not part of the fleet, all of them."

That seemed to be his trump card, the HSA.

"Would those military junta types be so flighty as to jump at shadows? There's a bugbear knocking around Attican Beta, this, Nazarra, and even the warmongers over in the Systems Alliance are running scared. That's the reason the Geth have come out of the Veil. They believe - the Primarch and the Consensus believe - that this Nazarra is just one of many. And if one has that much power, the Geth and the galaxy are going to need every ounce of ore, every manufacturing cycle, to get through the storm alive."

Now the Primarch spoke.

"The Prime Minister is correct. It is not in our nature to care for the wellbeing of others. Isolation has served the Consensus well for centuries. But all trees must stand together if we are to weather the storm and not break. A forest may stand where a mighty sentinel alone would falter."

Noveria

The cold road to Lab 15 was fraught with more peril than anticipated, a journey of death and fire in the snowy peaks. Multiple positions along the route, carefully concealed and fortified by apparently inexhaustible Geth detachments, opposed the specialists' ascent. At three particularly rough sections of the journey emplacements designed for anti-vehicle warfare engaged the Asari ground teams, forcing the elites to disembark and slowly clear the way forward on foot, rather than risk losing their only transportation to a lucky shot or unseen artillery piece. It was bloody work, made the more bloody by the complete lack of concern on the part of the Geth deployed to block access to the facility.

It was a strange and somewhat unnerving thing for many of the Huntresses, fighting a foe which would happily advance against you even if every other unit had been wiped from the face of the mountainside by biotics or weaponsfire. The very tenacity of the defenders began to wear down the assault teams, inhuman Geth Primes and heavies sacrificing themselves all too willingly to endanger a fragile Asari body, or wait with preturnatural patience for the sweep teams to pass before springing out of snowdrifts or from behind rocks just for the chance to harm their attackers.

By the time Peak 15 came in sight, the elite specialists were down to 13 combat-effective individuals, with 7 casualties complete losses, and 3 likely to need to be mustered out for life. Even with the coordination the Huntress teams were famous for, the kill-count had gone lopsided in the chaos, and the best estimate was that they had had to cut their way through nearly three hundred Geth of various makes and models, a truly formidable force for what was nominally a peaceful world.

Whatever was hiding in the hot labs here in Peak 15, somebody had no interest in the Asari, or indeed any organic, finding out about it.
