The Roman Navy besides from some historical expeditions would have never ventured into those seas, the Romans lack a network of ports to support their journey there, and the empire as a whole wouldn't have much, if any resources to spare for such a colony. So even if you'd find a way for the colony to be created and for it to survive, the idea of it still being loyal to Constantinople is completely up to you to explain.

As for the Phanariote system, I don't think that it would work specifically because of that - how would the Basileus be able, in any shape or form, to control who gets chosen as the colony's leader?

Its more of a cultural attachment than anything else, and its to bind the colony to a Great Power. Its essentially an independent nation; comprised of Roman colonists who wanted a more agrarian, down-to-earth existence.

You could at least try not to use the exact same ruling families as I do though

There are perhaps ways to explain it, but it would be at least a little weird for a branch of the same ruling family to have ended there, and for you to also have as your head of government a member of the same noble family as the Grand Logothete in Constantinople.

There are plenty of other families to use, excluding important and extinct families like the Komnenoi or the Angeloi.

That's why you weren't on the reserve list... right... Sorry 'bout that. I had bunch of stuff so I was only able to proxy-OP using personal chat with OPs. Yeah, I am double checking the list and shows that you are Ethiopia.

Hmmm... based on what I read from the apps, I am honestly not sure what would have happened with Socialism after death of Marx, and I am assuming that no one killed Marx in history since no one that I read mentions it. Probably it is going by IRL history and Engels is the next communist leader, while Marx still happened? You should confirm this with our resident French player Norv and... well, I would say Benuty, but I bet he is too busy with thinking about his own app to be of much service... just in case to be accurate.

The French Commonwealth has some strong elements of social democracy - the Reformed Party is basically a social democratic party. It also has a highly unionized workforce with some elements of syndicalism; the unions have reserved seats in the French Senate. But none of this is justified in terms of Marxist theory; it is all based on Calvinist-egalitarian principles that owe more to the Diggers of the English Civil War than to dialectical materialism.
For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.

Well, maybe you could. The Phokades would have lost their glory and importance similarly like in real life though, their power crushed by Basil II, and their military victories against the Arabs under Nikephoros eventually overshadowed by the Palaiologoi and their conquests.

They could have survived I suppose, there were mentions of Phokades even in ~1200 I think.

In that regard we are rather similar. It doesn't appear that Marxism has much of a place in this world with older forms of Christian Utopian Socialism seemingly remaining in dominance unlike in OTL where they were supplanted by the aforementioned. That could be rather interesting. Socialism in are world was largely an atheistic(godless) movement that largely imposed a rather top down highly centralized governing form with the means of production though officially owned by the workers was largely left in the the hands of and was managed by said central state authority. The opposite appears to be the case in this world with Socialist thought connected primarily and inexplicably to Christian/semi-christian values and principles arguably with a basis in the bible setting fourth the creation of an egalitarian society with government/economy organized from the bottom up with the means of production lying primarily directly within the hands of the workers themselves albeit with the state exhibiting an important role principally in regulating though not fully controlling the economy directly.

As of now we have arguably two principle poles ideologically speaking: On one side is your more moderate social democratic style supporting the gradual changing of society with presumably the government primarily functioning in a regulatory role protecting the rights of workers and creating social programs for the masses to relieve the effects of poverty and the like but otherwise leaving in place a more or less capitalist system. At least Presumably so. On the otherhand is my more revolutionary inclined system supporting the whole sale restructuring of society. The market organized and centered around democratic cooperatives owned and worked by the proletariat organized along Council-Democracy/National-Syndicalist lines and with that the presumable abolition of a renter class and hired labor. All this backed up by and arguably maintained by a strong authoritarian state being used to help organize and bring about these changes and seen as a principle element in the overall running and managing of the greater economy with the aforementioned cooperatives(organized into guilds) being granted representation to help in bringing this all about.

This world is shaping up to be rather interesting I must say, you agree?

The world certainly is very different - Roman autocracy has a lot more chances to survive than the real life Tsarist Russian autocracy ever had. It has a much stronger narrative and is far more popular, and we also have Integrism and Carlism as significant political forces, which means that traditional reactionary ideologies will also remain a political force for far longer than they did in real life.

I could potentially send one of my purple born princes down to Ethiopia. Both to bring with him a permanent ambassador of the Basileus in Addis Ababa (if accepted of course, and if Ethiopia accepts it, they will be more than free to send an ambassador of their own to Constantinople), and to award the Empress with the recognition she deserves as an equal to the Emperor of the Romans, now that a new monarch has taken on the imperial mantle in Constantinople.

If it would fit with the storyline that you have in mind of course, if not I have other characters that I could send xD

Done.

Full Nation Name : Kingdom of KwaZulu (Alternate: Kingdom of Zululand, isiZulu: UMbeso weKwaZulu). Sometimes referred to as the Kingdom of Zulu or the Zulu Empire.
Majority/Official Culture : amaZulu. While the entire empire bears the name of the Zulus, ethnic Zulus themselves- while constituting the plurality of the empire-
Territorial Core : Territory
Territorial Claim : The most well-supported claims are in modern-day Botswana. More ambitious territorial goals include southern regions of modern-day Zimbabwe and southern Mozambique. Greater ambition still strives to unify all of southern Africa under the flag of the Zulu. None of these are open goals of the government, and are merely the wistful thinking of certain individuals, for now.
Capital City : eThekwini [Durban, South Africa]
Population : 3,500,000

Flag : Official flag of KwaZulu, adopted 1885.
Government Type : Absolute federal monarchy
Government Ideology/Policies : The Zulu are traditionally characteristically militant and expansionist.

Pan-Zuluism- An ideology formed by Zibhebhu kaMaphitha in the mid-1880s, Pan-Zuluism proposed to unify the many separate ethnicities and identities in the Zulu Kingdom by forcing populations to intermingle, and in the process homogenize culturally and racially. Pan-Zuluism became official policy upon Dinizulu’s ascencion to the throne in 1884. It has experienced significant backlash due to its forcing of intermingling of cultures, especially among the Boer populations, but nonetheless persists.
Government Focus : The focus of Dinizulu’s government is almost to a fault focused on implementation of western technology and the cultural assimilation of its peoples into the central Zulu culture.
Head of State : His Majesty Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo, King of the Zulus
Head of Government : inDuna (Chief Advisor) Bhambatha kaMancinza
Government Description : Despite their intense drive to westernize, the government of the Zulu is still fairly archaic. The Zulu King has essentially free reign of the entire nation, and all lesser realms within its borders are mandated to both follow the King’s wishes and have undying loyalty to the Zulu nation. These lesser realms vary from lesser kingdoms, such as eSwatini, to more European styles of government, such as in the Oranje Republic. However, with increasingly modernized thought and technology, pressure has been building for sorely-needed government reform.

Majority/State Religion : The majority religion is probably Christianity. Official religion is a bit more complicated.
Religious Description : While no state religion has ever been officially asserted in Zulu government, traditionally the Zulu religion has been a polytheistic system of belief used to back up the King’s authority. However, with the arrival of Christian missionaries, Christianity has taken firm root and blossomed into a syncrecity with Zulu religion- the name of the traditional supreme creator, Unkulunkulu, has been conflated and adopted as the name of the Christian God. Protestant beliefs have influenced Christianity in Zulu far more than Catholic or Orthodox beliefs have.

Economic Ideologies : Protectionism, Centralized planning, Traditionalism
Major Production : Gold, Diamonds, Coal, Iron, Wheat, Fruit, Corn, Cattle
Economic Description : The Zulu economy is just moving out of a sustenance economy by the strong drive of centrally-planned attempts at westernization. While agriculture has long been the base for the KwaZulu economy, recently mining has taken up a role of major importance. Factories are just starting to whir, but mostly at the whim of the government. Severe tariffs protect native industry from more capable foreign competition. Most economic development is driven by the government- for instance, the railroads that cross the country were first laid down on the order of King Cetshwayo and continued under his son and successor. Although the Zulu currency is technically backed by gold, in rural regions it is much more closely tied to the barter system- more specifically the value of cattle- than a traditional Western financial model.

Development: Semi-industrialized (especially in urban areas)/Primitive in more rural areas.
Development Description : KwaZulu is undergoing its own little industrial revolution, fueled by exports of gold and diamonds. The King commands the formation and maintenance of government-owned companies (of sorts). Most development is centered around the urban centers, with rural areas quickly plummeting in development the farther one gets from the large cities and rail hubs.

Army Description : The Zulu Army numbers some 35,000, and is one of the few things KwaZulu takes full pride in despite its deficiencies. Zulu warriors are famously full of fighting spirit, and always willing to take up a battle cry to intimidate their enemies. While poorly equipped when compared to European nations, they attempt to remedy this gap by relying more on skirmish, harassment, and ambush tactics than open battle. Uniquely, it is almost entirely a professional army. Many civilian Zulu are willing to take up arms- even if it is just an assegai and a shield- to defend their homeland.

1,000 Zulu make up the Guard Ibutho, the most modern force in the Army. Wielding imported modern bolt-action rifles and fielding 25 Maxim machine guns, they are the most modern fighting force KwaZulu can offer, and are the only military unit fully clothed in the European-style modern uniform that is hoped to replace the hodge podge of traditional tribal clothing and Boer-influenced European-style clothing that currently makes up the military’s wardrobe.

The cavalry of KwaZulu number some 2,500 men. These riders are not given the uniformity of the more prestigious Royal Guard, and as such are dressed in the aforementioned hodge-podge of clothing styles. The modern uniform for the cavalry has not been procured in large numbers except at the discretion (and wallets) of some officers. They are mostly commonly equipped with an assegai (of such a length that it is easy to strike a foot soldier from horseback) and a carbine version (really, just a shortened barrel and stock) of the Natal Rifle. However, there has been an effort by the head of the Army, Bhambatha, to fit out the cavalry with imported lever-action repeating rifles instead of the slower-firing carbine. Some officers take the initiative and purchase repeaters for their troops without government aid, while others make the cavalry suffice with black-powder muzzle loaders. Others still equip their cavalry with imported shotguns or revolvers.

For most the rest of the Army, the standard service rifle is the Natal Rifle, an indigenously-produced falling-block breech-loader copied from a European design. Zulu warriors generally turn their traditional Iklwa- a short spear that resembles a shortened assegai- into a ring bayonet for the Natal Rifle.

The two main types of cannon in the Zulu Army are the 90mm field gun and the 120mm siege gun, both copies of French cannon (incidentally, the Zulu versions suffer from lack of interchangeable parts, as they are made mostly by hand and outdated techniques rather than modern industrial manufacturing).

Gatling guns, both imported and natively produced, form the majority of Zulu machine guns, although generally it is preferred to use the small numbers of imported Maxim machine guns.
Army Weakness : The army is very poorly equipped, with most rifles in the military still being single-shot, and very few machine guns/cannons. Some less fortunate units do not even have the Natal Rifle, and are stuck with either muzzle-loading muskets or even just the traditional assegai and shield. Zulu tactics tend to rely on room to maneuver and strike from, and in an open/equal fight with no room to maneuver they will feel the full brunt of their inferior technology and training when compared to better armies.
Naval Description : The Zulu Navy simply doesn’t exist. At most, there are coastal levies that utilize small vessels both of native and European construction to board and fight onboard enemy ships, or perhaps some security-minded fishermen with ancient swivel guns. Port infrastructure at all is still in its infancy, to say nothing of a proper navy.
Naval Weakness : It doesn’t exist. That’s a pretty big weakness right there.
Further Military Description : Most modern-ish Zulu equipment is either purchased from foreign sources or copies of foreign equipment.

National Goals :
  • Westernization of Zulu industry
  • Westernization of the Army
  • Formation of an actual Navy
  • Expansion of commerce to more properly bring KwaZulu into the world economy
National Issues :
  • Outdated everything
  • Inefficient planning
  • Outmoded, inefficient, and inexperienced industry.
  • Potential attempts at imperialism by foreign powers
National Figures of Interest :
    Historical
  • Shaka kaSenzangakhona (Shaka Zulu) [c.1787-1828]- The first king of Zulu, revolutionized warfare in southern Africa.
  • Dingane kaSenzangakhona [c.1790-1840]- the second king of Zulu, continued Shaka’s conquests, including the subjugation of the first Boers at victory in the Battle of Blood River.
  • Andries Pretorius [1798-1853]- Boer leader, defeated at Blood River. Later recruited along with 400 more Boer mercenaries by Mpande to overthrow and kill Dingane.
  • Mpande kaSenzangakhona [1798–1872]- Third king of Zulu, brother of Dingane. Overthrew Dingane, ordered gunpowder weapons be made.
  • Cetshwayo kaMpande [c.1826-1884]- Fourth king of Zulu. The great modernizer. Started industrialization of the Kingdom, but remained suspicious of European powers.
  • Zibhebhu kaMaphitha [1841-1904]- The Zulu chief who first came up with the idea of the Pan-Zulu Ideology.
    Modern
  • Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo [1868-Present]- Fifth king of Zulu. Continuing his father’s reforms, and first king to fully embrace both westernization and Pan-Zuluism.
  • Solomon kaDinuzulu [1891-Present]- Heir apparent of Zulu. To be educated in Europe, making some traditionalists question his fitness for office.
  • Louis Botha [1862-Present]- State President of the Oranje Republic and personal friend of the king’s. Widely respected by Boer population, it is no wonder he is considered the most powerful Boer in the country.
  • Bhambatha kaMancinza [c.1865-Present]- A Zulu chief, appointed chief advisor by the king.
National Ambition/Aspirations :
  • Zulu Dawn: Modernization of KwaZulu and turning into a respected nation on the world stage.
  • Rome of the Cape: To some extent, the ultimate dream of the Zulu is to become a power comparable to those in Europe in southern Africa, potentially seizing European colonies in the region for themselves.

History :
The main point of divergence is in 1823, when Shaka Zulu was still founding the Zulu Empire. One of his lieutenants, Mzilikazi, attempted to rebel. In our timeline, he succeeded in his rebellion, founded the Matabele Kingdom, and started the Mfecane- a period of extreme strife in southern Africa responsible for the deaths of as many as two million people. In this timeline, however, his rebellion was snuffed out in its infancy by Shaka.

In 1828, Shaka was assassinated. His successor, his younger brother Dingane (who had conspired in Shaka’s assination) publically vowed to carry on his legacy, and continued on his conquests. This brought him into opposition both with other tribes- whose technology was equal to the Zulus, making them fodder for the Kingdom’s superior tactics- and the Boers, descendants of 18th-century Dutch settlers with all of the military technology that came with them.

However, the Boers did settle along the Senqu River (then called the Orange River). A series of engagements escalated until the climactic Battle of Blood River in 1838, which the Zulus- despite outnumbering the Boers more than 32 times over- suffered literally thousands of casualties. The victory at Blood River was etched into Zulu cultural memory as a horrific pyrrhic victory, but it did facilitate the subjugation of the Voortrekkers that followed.

Dingane’s grip on power slipped quickly after the Battle of Blood River, and he was overthrown in 1840 by his younger brother Mpande with the help of 400 Boer mercenaries led by Andries Pretorius- the very Boer leader Dingane had barely triumphed over at Blood River two years prior. When Mpande officially ascended to the throne, he appointed Pretorius his inDuna (Chief Advisor). The Boer treated the post as a sort of Prime Minister position, setting a precedent that would extend to the present day.

Mpande’s first move was to introduce gunpowder weapons into the army on a wide scale- even if it was at the time just smoothbore muskets. His reforms lead to the alteration of the “buffalo horn” formation that had been a staple of Zulu tactics of Shaka. In the reformed tactics, the center- the chest- were armed with muskets, and the reserves- the loins- with spears. The chest fired into the enemy, while the loins charge forward when the enemy front attempts to close the distance. The flanking forces- the horn- remained armed with spears initially, although gradually gunpowder weapons with iklwa bayonets became popular. Eventually, the entire formation- chest, loins, and horns- were all equipped with muskets with bayonets. In the latter half of his reign, he would form special skirmisher units armed with rifle-muskets.

He officialized Pretorius’s mercenaries as the Guard Ibutho, and expanded their numbers with native Zulu warriors. The Guard Ibutho was to be the most modern regiment of the nation, and a testbed for implementation of modern technology.

After his army reforms- the most radical since Shaka- his armies spearheaded the conquest of much of the southern tip of Africa, starting with the Xhosa peoples. However, he was not present, and his armies were commanded by his sons. Increasingly he became more decadent than actually concerned with running the country, leading to a power struggle between his sons. Most of the territorial chiefs supported Mpande’s son Cetshwayo, while Cetshwayo’s younger brother Mbuyazi was favored by the king. This culminated in the 1856 Battle of iBhayi, where Cetshwayo triumphed over his younger brother, who he had executed along with many of Mbuyazi’s supporters. From then on, Cetshwayo ruled as inDuna.

The heir apparent being the Chief Advisor ended before it could become a trend with Cetshwayo’s ascension to the throne proper at his father’s death in 1873. Cetshwayo expanded his father’s reforms beyond the military and into industry. Under his rule, railroads were laid down. In 1879, the first passenger line was opened from Cetshoway’s capital of Ulundi to the port city of eThekwini. The thatched houses of Zulu tradition gave way to brick structures- sturdier, more permanent, and perhaps most of all more “modern”.

It is under Cetshwayo that the first factories started to produce- specifically, the opening of eThekwini Iron Works to produce all manner of useful iron supplies (including cannon) and the Natal Armory to produce rifle-muskets for the army.

Cetshwayo died in 1884, and left his son Dinuzulu to ascend to the throne. Dinuzulu’s adoption of the Pan-Zulu ideology angered many Boers who still held on to European racial biases. Tensions escalated until the outbreak of the Boer-Zulu War in 1886.

During the War, Dinuzulu opted for an expansion of the government’s role into one to more fully control the infant industry of KwaZulu. The seizure of large stocks of gold in the iGauteng province paved the way for both the importation of fairly modern weapons of war- including machine guns and cannon- and the creation of a (theoretically) gold-backed paper currency, the inkomaz. The war also sparked its own revolution in the army with the shift in tactics from infantry formations to skirmish tactics for the entire army. It also sparked the adoption of the Natal Rifle, replacing the earlier black-powder rifle-muskets that had become the mainstay of the Zulu.

The Zulu-Boer War ended in 1890. Since then, Dinuzulu has set about trying to modernize the nation in line with his father's wishes, and trying to keep foreign nations from exerting their influence and snuffing out the Zulu nation before it is even a century old.

1. Your concept. The name sounds pretty fictional, so to say.
2,. Your territories - you seem to have territories on two different continents, which region should be your core?

Meant to be a kinda East India style Megacompany that managed to survive into the "modern day", operating far more autonomously than even the VOC it is quasi based on. It is going to be meant as a sick man of the world, the last glory of the Great old Megacompanies, a last hoorah for the force of private arms over nationalism.

As for core territory, they are European, so all their lands are Colonial, but their greatest investment and capital will be in Nigeria.

Did no one address this?

I saw problem with this application in general. The concept itself is interseting, but only just that. Currently, your claim is spread all across the globe with no overlord in Europe. This create a massive problem for whichever country you claim to be the "ex-overlord."

Firstly, East India Company and other chartered colonial companies still worked for the interest of its shareholders, which, for the most part, WAS the governing elites of motherland. Independence would entail these elites being ousted and new elites by some logic buyinig all these shares or through some... odd... corporate revolution of some kind or something. Maybe the manages didn't like shareholders? But then why would they keep the corporate model instead of the management becoming a dictator? Alternatively, these elites may have been convinced to join this new business venture? But since you are an independent entity beyond the control of the motherland, why would these elites INCLUDING Royalty and all the wealth Merchants betray their motherland for? What was their incentive when things were going so well that they had multi-regional empire?

Secondly, no trade company will have enough capital to invest into colonial efforts if they gain independence from get-go: they need to invest into new trade infrastructure and defense which would have been at leastly partly sponsored by the motherland. Furthermore, the new nation will have to forge new trade relations with various European powers, which is something that will obviously take time and effort. This will significantly hamper you colonial efforts, since you will be taking well over a century to establish the norm. This create a very awkward tradeoff. Either you are a well-established company that ceded from the motherland but this will be paradoxical due to conservative nature of elites towards their established wealth... or you are a small company that declared liberation earlier on in the colonial history of Europe in which case... why didn't your motherland send liberation force?

Combined, the two creates significant issue for whoever decides to "adopt" you. Based on the two scenarios that I can foresee for a trade company akin to East India Company being liberated and maitaining their value, you need either your motherland to be incompetent in either letting you go free becasue reasons and not send liberation forces when your colonial infrastructure would be their loss... or you are so wealth and powerful that you take all the merchants and elites from their nation to your own because reasons.

The only other I can see is that, because you are SO small and insignificant... you decalre independence as a colonial charter company and the colonial overlord does not care of the loss. Your shareholders would have to be people so insignificant that their loss does not matter to the empire, and your country, for reasons that you must expalin, decide to keep corporatocratic governance system and build up over the centuries to become a colonial power you are now.

At least, these ar the three scenarios that I can see. Whichever is the case, I need a confirmation from your ex-overlord in Europe... since you have said Europe, not going to criticize if you have an overlord from Asia because you change your mind... that will allow your people to originate from and accept your liberation history and all the impact that your liberation will entail.

I don't want to accept your reservation until this is accepted. The problem is that your nation sounds so unorthodox that technically it doesn't sound like you have a point of divergence from original history. You would be divergence from another nation's divergence, to be fair, and it sounds... purely fictional. I want at least some guarantee that you will have a continuity with our exisitng history.

History :

THE PRE-REVOLUTIONARY COLONIAL ERA 1650-1774
- The period preceding the revolution was a period of time rather that in most ways was rather similar to the world of OTL with European colonization of the new world beginning with earnest in the 16th and 17th centuries. The first settlement of Guyana named Georgetown had it's start in 1650 and was done by the British who sought to create a sort of anchor for their sugar producing colonies in the lesser Antilles plus it was meant in a sort of way to put pressure on the Spaniards who at that point largely controlled the majority of South America. Said colony would come to be known as the Province of British Columbia and would like much of the surrounding lands became a largely plantation based economy centered around mass enslavement of African slaves and sugar production. Some of said slaves invariably would escape from bondage hiding in the interior and would come to be known as Maroons hiding from British cavalry raids and clinging onto what little cultural traditions that they had bought with them over from their homelands.

- A major change came about though during the Atlantic wars Britain would not only lose it's North American colonies but so too would British Columbia fall to the Spanish forces near the end of said war. More so as an afterthought then anything else. While North America was regarded as a large prize British Columbia, which was joined to and came to be known as the Eastern Counties of the Viceroyalty of New Granada, was kinda like the grizzle. Not bad but nothing too substantial or important. This combined with the continued period economic and political weakness that categorized Spain in the post Atlantic wars era led to this land being rather neglected filled with bare bones administration and economic malaise.

- It was within this world that the man known as Solomon Day who would come to define this nation would be born into. Born in 1720 The son of a runaway named Awa who had gone Maroon after having led a small revolt that had killed his master after said master had killed his mother and escaped in the face of massive chase conducted by the colonial militia to the jungle of the deep interior. His mother, named Maylen, was a daughter of a chief and said to have been a witch. He grew up spending his formative years within his little maroon village constantly having to move to avoid Spanish Patrols when one day everything would change. At the age of 12 while trying to run from Spanish Cavalry company who had spotted their village Solomon fell behind and was captured. He became a slave on one of the local sugar plantations for the next 2 years and would see the full brutality of the world his Parents had always spoken of. He would in the dead of night escape running to and stowing away on a ship during the dead of night. Though it was only a few years the whole experience left a significant impression on him leaving behind both mental physical scars that haunted him to the day he died.

- He would go onto become a traveler starting his life as a ship boy and making his way around the world where he would meat see and learn of a world that he had never known of living within his little village. He learned to read and write and found a great talent in linguistics being able to speak in 5 languages: dutch, french, English, Spanish, and Latin besides the one of his fathers. During this time while working under a merchant he found himself in the land of the French and it is said that this would influence him greatly in his later years. Seeing of the commonwealth, how it functioned so much differently then so many other places, would help arouse what would eventually become the soul of a revolutionary. It was all during his trips to France that he became rather acquainted with various branches of Protestantism in various different flavors that challenged and intrigued the personally held religious beliefs of this man influencing his later course in life.

THE REVOLUTIONARY CRUSADE 1775-1805

The Prelude and The Return
- At the age of 55 Solomon Day having spent the better part of his life in some ways running away from his past would find himself at the center of what came to be the beginning of something extraordinary. After having more or less settled in the Spanish controlled Island of Trinidad Solomon got in contact with a small group of would be revolutionaries known as the Black Horizon who influenced by the ideas of the Radical land that was France and believing in the creation of a nation in which all men were free would go onto start the first leg of what came to be known as the Revolutionary Crusade on their island home. They would go onto lead a large scale revolt among the small population of freemen and black slaves in 1775 after having their plans discovered by the local authorities and their warehouse filled with guns raided. Solomon would find himself near the center of this who despite his age proved himself an able tactician helping the Revolutionaries achieve some minor gains. But Solomon realized rather early on a fundamental truth. The rebellion was doomed. The power of the Spaniard State, the small and limited population of the island plus being that it was an island it would be rather easy to isolate said rebellion and crush it soon after. The only hope was for a more large scale mass rebellion over a far larger area, only then could they hope for victory. So it was at this point Solomon would set a new plan in motion organizing small groups of Expeditionary units, one of which he would lead, who would armed with weapons and ammo go on to attempt to incite rebellions in the surrounding lands. Solomon would with a few companions, 24 in total, lead his forces back to a land he had called home so long ago.

- I 1777 Solomon and his 24 companions would land upon the coast of OTL Guyana and despite the heavy Spanish presence would be able to successfully evade discovery and made their way into the interior whereby he would link up with the local Maroon population. The proverbial son had returned and he came bearing with him revolution. For the next 10 years Solomon spent bringing the various Maroon chiefs onto his side, trying to convince them that a change was coming and it was time to act. Whether by guile, charisma, or in some rare cases force, he was eventually successful in his goals of unifying the the maroons into a cohesive force. During this time he gained contact with the French, seeing what he was doing and thinking it could potentially be rather useful for their own goals, and hence gained a rather large source of arms. Nothing too amazing, mostly pre gen stuff, but it would tip the balance far more into their favor than it had been prior to that point.

The Beginning of War
- At this point the Spanish having long since put down the Rebellion in Trinidad along with that appeared to be all the various smaller scale rebellions that had broken out in response were not expecting a hole lot and had believed and hoped they could finally relax when the unthinkable occurred. Solomon leading a unified force of Gun armed Maroons numbering around 2,000 strong led an offensive against the rather scattered and coastal focused Spanish Militia units who caught utterly by surprise nearly collapsed in the face of the whole thing. During this time Solomon made contact with the slaves on the sugar plantations and with french guns armed and incited them to rebellion allowing him and his forces an absolutely awesome source of manpower that gave him the ability to nearly total overrun all who stood in his way. By the time the Spanish regulars arrived to try to put it all down they were faced with a crisis that was teetering on disaster. Ultimately using their superior weaponry and training were able to more or less stabilize the front turning the whole thing into a slog of attrition that in the end would nearly break the Spanish State.

Stalemate
- For the next 13 years what came about could only be described as as giant bloody wait. Solomon controlling the interior with a vast army of freemen, maroons, and to a lesser degree natives armed with french guns, Spanish regulars and militia on the coastal areas just doing their best to try maintain every inch of ground they could in the face of the onslaught. While Solomon kept the pressure on with his soldiers, he wasn't the only general at play. With the local militia units practically depleted the Spanish had to rely increasingly on regulars from the main land who were especially susceptible to the local tropical disease like yellow fever and malaria which wore away at them at a frightening efficiency. Guyana increasingly was becoming both a money and manpower sink for Spain which it just couldn't afford. And all the while Solomon only increased his iron grip on the areas he did hold. The war was characterized by Spanish forces largely in a line of fixed emplacements trying to hold back near constant and numerous raids from the jungle interior by the forces under Solomon. His units would engage and then quickly run off when faced by Spaniard strong points or attack and overrun when faced by more lightly guarded ones allowing them to launch raids deep into Spanish held territories burning, murdering, and looting all that stood in their way before retreating when the Spanish were able to mobilize a counter. Every once in a while the Spanish would launch their own attacks but when faced up to these Solomon would have his men retreat easily avoiding the more flat footed Spanish regulars who knew little of the terrain, while ambushing more small forces who would march nearby. Eventually finding little other than burnt villages and facing increasing attrition from marksmen in the woods the Spaniards would withdraw and return home and settle back down into a stalemate and with it the whole mess would just start over again. Something was going to give. During this time Solomon would go onto to create his magnum Opus in the form of the Twin Works "The Golden Manuscript" and "The Manifesto of a Heavenly Revolution". With the former he spread his religious beliefs among his forces and their families providing them a justification and a purpose behind their role in this world helping turn his forces into the fanatical revolutionaries they would come to be.

The Elemana Jungle Campaign
- It all came to a head in 1800 with Guerin's French war machine on the horizon and set to invade the Spanish needed to end a front that had become increasingly less a massive running sore and more equivalent to that of a knife in the back. Amassing an army led under the Leadership of a general known as Brión directly charged by the Spanish crown to finally end the nightmare that was Guyana. He set out from home with an initial force numbering 15,000 regulars and upon landing was joined up by the local forces numbering on the ground who themselves numbered 10,000 half of which were regulars while the other half were militia drawn up from the local white population. General Brion's goal was rather simple ultimately relying on forcing Solomon to face him in open combat and defeating him in detail with an army of professionals. During this time he had gained a rather important piece of intelligence in relation to his enemy, specifically the site of Solomon's Capital of Elamana from a slave woman named Adieu who was said to have been in love with her master and had a son with him. After the death of her husband who was a soldier in the armies of Solomon she ran off distraught desiring to be with her onetime lover.

- With this information gained he set out in what came to be known as "The Elemana Jungle Campaign" with the entirety of his 20,000 regulars and 1,000 militiamen who served as scouts leaving behind the remaining militiamen to cover his back. General Brion organized his army into 4 columns of 5,000 regulars and 250 militia each whose goal was to ultimately link up at the rebel's capital and surround is all on all sides. This also had the cross effect of allowing him to cover more ground and do so in a rather quick fashion. He set fourth blazing a path deep into the Jungles of Guyana and found a war torn landscape filled with burnt down plantations and abandoned villages which were retreated. Living off the land would not be a viable strategy here. Not only that his overall war-plan had a fatal flaw that in the end could leave him vulnerable and spell doom for his army. With his forces divided they could potentially be picked off individually one by one. This was exemplified in the first battle of the campaign around the banks of the Berbice River. During this clash Column No.4 led by one named Colonel Alverz faced off against a force led by Solomon himself numbering 10,000 insurgents who faced off against the Spaniard forces on the eastern side of the river atop a rather impressive bluff. He allowed the Spaniards to cross only attacking when half their forces were deployed on the eastern side and the other half were wading through said river in order to force them onto the offensive. The Spaniards in proper columns marched forward toward what appeared to be the main force in the center who had created a trench for protection; but in reality it was all a trick for Solomon had instructed the majority of his men and alongside that the entirety of his artillery to remain silent hiding in the brambles. When a signal was given the infantry rose and fired while the artillery roared to life causing mass chaos and destruction upon the Spanish columns who proceeded to break and retreat. A second signal was made causing Solomon's cavalry, who had been deployed on the other side of the river hidden to the Spanish to strike at the largely exposed Spanish artillery who were quickly silenced before they could cause much damage. During the Spanish forces rout they found themselves assailed on both sides of the river both by Solomon's infantry and artillery on the eastern bank and by his cavalry on the western bank being reduced to a bare handful. The slaughter only ended when Solomon saw enemy reinforcements making their way on over and he himself decided to withdraw.

- After this disaster in which he lost the near entirety of Column No.4 including it's commanding officer Colonel Alverez, General Brion from that point onward decided to consolidate his forces to prevent another. Though it bought himself and his troops a bit of safety it led to a slowdown that gave Solomon the time he needed to consolidate and bring his own forces to bare to face off against what he knew was the greatest threat he had ever been forced to face so far. In what would be known as the March to Elemana General Brion's luck did not improve greatly the aforementioned sister plus disease continued to take a tole on his forces who succumbed greatly against various tropical nasties like yellow fever and malaria. He also found himself the subject of various small ambushes by the Insurgent forces notably one that occurred in a swamp that was surrounded by 2 hills. Hoping to get to Elemana as quickly as possible his brashness came into play when he led his troops through the swamp failing to send proper scouts ahead or even try to set up some sort of bridgehead on the other side let alone consider that the terrain was perfect ambush territory. This and various other small mistakes and the like, including him having to ditch most of his heavy cannons due to the poor terrain and infrastructure, continued to add up eating away at his forces who by the time of the final major engagement of this campaign numbered only about 15,000 regulars and militia combined compared to his original force of 21,000.

- General Brion and his forces never made it to Elemana. Instead the final major engagement of the Campaign occurred only a couple dozen miles away from the aforementioned city in a place known as the "Hills of Ghost's" while General Brion, having learned from his previous mistake, tried to avoid leading his army into another swamp. While going around said swamp to avoid it in a move that Solomon day suspected he would do General Brion found himself face to face with what appeared to be the main army, known as the Black Legion, of Solomon and by extension the insurgent forces numbering about 20,000 strong. In the resulting engagement General Brion would lead the 14,000 members of his army into battle with the bulk of his forces charged with holding back the Insurgents While his Second Lieutenant General Perez along with about 1,000 others would head backs a bit to create as quickly as they could a small fort from where his forces could retreat into and from where they would be able to make a stand against the enemy. This proved a terrible decision for waiting hidden in the nearby forests in reserve was a force comprising 10,000 strong led by Solomon's Second In command, Chief Nogo, who seeing an opportunity pounced upon the small detachment of troops. Lieutenant General Perez is said to have been killed almost immediately after and soon after said force rushed the main bulk of what remained of the Spaniard army and engaged them in hand to hand combat. Finding themselves faced up against a hammer and anvil if there ever was one the Spaniards were surrounded with little to no chance to escape but fought on as hard as they could in a desperate battle of survival that turned utterly savage with most fighting on nothing instincts for what lasted for 24 hours deep into the night and into the dawn of the next day. Even when the rain started it continued on and on until eventually General Brion waved the flag of Surrender. What occurred next became the stuff of legends. First the regular enlisted were beheaded one by one, then when that was finished the NCOs and junior officers were crucified, and finally but not least the High officers along with the generals staff/entourage were taken to a sacred grove and buried alive with a prayer to heaven being made over their screams. The result of the campaign was a total defeat for the Spanish forces with only a couple hundred ever returning from the field. Solomon's own losses are technically unknown but were comparably light. News of the defeat struck hard and only further contributed to the crisis of morale that afflicted the Spanish people who at this point were already facing setback after setback against Henri Guerin's French Leviathan war machine. What few regulars were left departed with Spain needing every able body it could get for the war at home. All that stood before Solomon was the drastically outnumbered Colonial Militia. Solomon saw his chance.

Solomon Strikes Back and The End of it all
- Solomon began his own counteroffensive in earnest when information filtered down unto him of the Spanish regulars departure. The Colonial Militia numbering only about 4,000 and extended across a rather significant front found themselves overrun with their lines shattering in the face of the massive counteroffensive by Solomon's own. They had no choice but to retreat into the various fortified colonial cities that dotted the coastline. which found themselves under siege almost immediately by Solomon's forces, and conceded the interior and some of the smaller towns which fell seemingly overnight in the face of the onslaught. With that Solomon and his troops hardened and itching for vengeance against their former terrors and masters gleefully engaged in bloody massacres of civilians who had found themselves unable to escape in time and abandoned by their protectors were left to the mercy of Solomon's Black Legion. News of these and many other atrocities not surprisingly found their back to Europe with the enemies of France being able to make use of the information as propaganda against France claiming they were at fault for the actions of what was referred to as their barbarian negro allies. Presented with this France decided to unilaterally stop providing arms to Solomon's forces and made a declaration repudiating any sort of association with his and condemning his actions which not surprisingly angered him. Breaking off about 5,000 of his best troops, leaving the rest to continue the multiple sieges, Solomon set off and led his army into what was French Bresil into an area referred to as Amapá in our world. Here he would launch a brutal attack against the French Fort of Macapá, which had previously been the principle point from where he had gotten the French weapons in question easily overwhelming the small french garrison of 100. He took the french weapons which had been previously promised to him before the French Declaration. He also took the Cannons from the fort which would be used to epic effect in the aforementioned sieges. Said firepower allowed him to easily blast away the largely makeshift log and earthen fortifications of many of the Spanish held colonial cities. The most notable in the fall of Georgetown, the previous capital of British Columbia, which was the scene of the infamous "Georgetown horrors" that would stun the world with the brutality of the whole thing with the entire population being butchered and the city burnt to the ground. Seeing the writing on the wall and with rescue nowhere in sight with the collapse of the Spanish homeland during the war against France, in the final year of the war the remaining Spanish held cities of Guyana were evacuated by the Spanish navy to what became Spain in America with a promise to return in the name of vengeance.

The War was finally over.

SOLOMON'S REIGN 1806-1820
- Upon the achieving the Independence and under the iron fisted rule of the man who would be referred to as Father of the Nation, Solomon Day took Guyana on a uniquely revolutionary path. Wishing to break ties with the corrupted and decadent "old world" from which they hailed Solomon set about shaping his society to fit within his utopia justifies the means mold. For example The calendar was changed made to be more secular and rational with 5 day per week a, year that began on the solstice of summer, and a leap week every 20 years. A public school system modeled after that in France to some degree was implemented with the language of education being that of Maroon Creole which was in effect created by and organized by Solomon from his knowledge and studies of the Maroon languages of his home amalgamating them all into a reasonably rational conglomerate. With that he created a unique unified Syllablry for said language and also rather oddly gave it a Base-12 Positional system for arithmetical functions. Most say it might have been already there with many of the african cultures from which the maroons derived from having had such a system. This along with other "Reforms" like the creation of a revolutionary new measurement system centered around base 12 which is said to have partially inspired the creation of the Universal Measurements(aka the metric system) which were themselves base 10, the implementation of mass universal conscription for the military, and even wide spread use of paper money backed by local gold deposits set Guyana on a radical path emulated by few filled with revolutionary terror and almost arbitrary rule in what he called a system of "Father Governs Children" in his eyes sought to lay the groundwork for what would be a Revolutionary Society and State that he believed would change the World as we know it.

- During this time not content to contain the revolution to just his lands and desiring to prevent isolation for it when the the when the various Spanish american wars broke out he saw an opportunity. Almost immediately declaring support for the new commonwealth he sent sent arms and eventually in small number troops to aid said nations in their wars. This would lead Guyana onto another path from where it would form a in later years a vital component in the Spanish American wars of Independence providing aid to any revolutionaries on this side of the Atlantic who appealed for aid. Though Solomon never fully got to see it his forces would go onto help in the breaking of the imperialist shackles in much of the new world.

THE REVOLUTIONARY STATE ERA 1821-PRESENT

- Upon the death of Solomon, quietly in his sleep in the capital, so ended an era. Hoping to bring a little bit of order and sense to the whole mess many of the leaders of the various communities that formed Guyana and in addition to that members of Solomon's former entourage gathered together to create what would become the Modern constitution of the Free Guyana Revolutionary State creating the various pillars of government and much of the functional components of Guyana that stand in some shape or form to this day.

- The history up until the present day has not been an easy one with Guyana being a central mover in much of what goes on in this side of the World for good or ill. The military history alone deserves a whole novel with 2 separate attempts at reconquest by Spain and even 1 by Imperial America alone as notches on their belt and with Guyana having been involved in some shape or form in practically every armed conflict in the new world and a bit of the old world. Whether that be boots on the ground or just arms and equipment to the various combatants they have proven themselves quite a menace and noted rogue state that has firmly planted itself against much of the established world order. Attempts by Spain itself at reconquest and also other European countries including but not limited to Sweden who has a colony next door to them and has been the recipient of the pain in ass that is Guyanese armed would be revolutionaries causing some degree of unpleasantness has led to a Guyana being rather insular and sullen focusing on internal improvements. An interesting point has to do with how they Industrialized even in isolation with their peculiarities(communal ownership of land, lack of slavery, the destruction)more or less preventing the reestablishment of and having effectively destroyed what was an extensive plantation based agricultural market the Guyanese instead focused on industrialization. Similar to how British industrialization was spurred by textiles Guyanese industrialization came about originally from a need to produce arms for the wars and mining. Steam engines and new tools alongside the build up of centralized workshops for gunsmiths proved useful in improving the efficiency and safety of whole aforementioned process and with them this unto factories. This along with government initiatives which were helped by the use of conscripts in peacetime providing a source of labor encouraged the development of Roads, Rail, and Canals to better connect said mines and connect said workshops to their suppliers and market. It kinda ended up bouncing off itself with better mining especially of gold this gave them the funds to build manufactures to make more weapons to feed their growing military industrial complex which in turn provided an incentive to get more funds, which forced them to develop better tools to mine and so on. Not content to have to rely on a bunch of capitalist for what they needed the Guyana Central Government set about creating their own state owned factories to fulfill said need. Primarily staffed with convict labor, conscripts, and corvee labor from the populace this helped keep costs to a minimum and marked a major defining point between them and others. Unlike Other Nations whose industrialization was spurred on by Private investors and initiative Guyana 's was defined mostly by Government Intervention and prodding with the result being that by the modern day something like 40% of all factories were State industries with the majority of the ones that aren't having at one point been State industries that were converted later on into worker's cooperatives.

- Moving on from that their history till this point hasn't been smooth sailing with Guyana seemingly content to run place itself like a rocket ship on the way to Mars through and into the 20th century what can be said and what the future holds for this strange and terrifying nation is unsure. Their future is uncertain with the only general constant being the seemingly concrete Guyanese governments grip on power. Some say as a legacy of Solomon's strong arm grip on power, others due to the insensate bunker state mentality that characterizes the population who lie in fear of the outside world and whose only seeming hope is unity; no major internal disruptions like large scale rebellions and military coups have really occurred since the Independence era which has helped keep the whole morass together. Whenever faced down the barrel of some foreign power the Guyanese have always seem to always without pause rally around the flag, which undeniably is the probably the biggest reason why they're still around and kicking like a rabid dog.whenever danger lies on the horizon which it seems to always do they always seem to fight it off. At least up till now, things are a changing in this world and honestly the future isn't exactly bright. There might not be a place left in this world for such a nation such as this and from one perspective their future looks like tunnel with no light at the end. But we can never know and must wait to see what the future bears this very nation.

And this be Part 2: The History of the whole thing.

My App is finally finished and I am ready for it to be reviewed by the OPs in whatever they capacity they see as necessary. Thank you for the wait I know that took way longer than I promised and predicted. If you find everything to your standards I can get a nice Intro post going by tomorrow.

A nod to the former name of the Golden Horde, and the tradition of viewing the Rus, and beyond as the land of the Golden Sun. Outside of the direct territory of the emperor the Rus principalities, and other states practice near total autonomy as full members of the commonwealth.

They each have their own governments, and prerogatives, but so long as they give adherence to the imperial authority they are left to their individual duties.

Government Focus : There is no actual single unified focus for the government as many vested interests are involved within the governance of the Commonwealth.

Head of State : His Majesty Abd Al-Ahad Khan, Khagan of the Mongols, Golden Emperor of the Rus,

Head of Government : The High Princely Minister elected from the Princely Council of the Rus, and the Kurultai of the Mongols. High Lord of the Volga Bolghars, Protector of the Siberic Peoples, and King of the Finnish. Suzerain of the Church of the East, and caretaker of the City of Sarai.

    Government Description :

Majority/State Religion : Nestorian [Church of the East]/ Russian Chalcedonian.

Religious Description : The Rus principalities accord themselves in the rite of the schismatic Eastern Chalcedonian branch. Separated from Constantinople, Rome, and the other sees by the conquest of the initially polytheistic Mongols this seperation created a uniquely Russian church focused on agrarianism, and monasticism. The Golden Horde following their conversion to the Church of the East propped it up as the state religion but respected the various religious beliefs of the major groups of their nation. +-

Economic Ideologies : The commonwealth prefers a mixed economic stance due in part to its nature as a confederation. Different economic priorities suit different areas of the country.

Major Production : The imperial court sponsors various schools of mathematics, philosophy, the sciences, and the classic curriculum of the Greco-Roman world. The imperial heartland has a special fascination with railroads, and the production of railroad parts intending in part to aid the industrialization of the country by connecting it by rail. Agriculturally the Commonwealth focuses a lot on grain, and feeder crops as well as cattle ranching. The Rus also has vast reserves of natural gas and petroleum. Then there is the matter of the untapped forests sprawling across the country. In the mines, people look for aluminum, iron ore, gold, copper, steel, nickel, tin, and more.

The Commonwealth also invests in private merchant fleets to handle fishing at least in the imperial heartland.

Economic Description : Some call it a paradox or an enigma while others call it a tradition. The imperial heartland of New Mongolia is industrialized in part because past Khagans didn't want to fall behind. The same imperial mandate could not be enforced on other parts of the Commonwealth, and as such, the Rus princely states vary wildly. The port state of Pskov and the merchant state of Novgorod are remarkably European while the interior Rus states are traditionally based on agriculture. Agriculture rooted in the practice of Serfdom despite the protests of the imperial court to abolition the practice.

The ports of the black sea benefit from merchant trade from Polish-Lithuania, and Eastern Rome, and many admit that they owe these two powers for the introduction of industrialization initially. The far eastern port cities thrive as mercantile hotspots due to trade With China, Korea, and other partners. The mood in the imperial court is changing, and some suspect within a decade the government may try to uniformly industrialize the country in order for it to all catch-up.

    Development: Semi-Industrialized.

Development Description : The economic development of the Golden Commonwealth is highly mixed, to say the least. Novograd, for example, is highly industrialized compared to some of the other Rus principalities which have an agrarian-based economy. The lands of the Golden Horde aka "new Mongolia" are a mix as even though the majority are still settled high industry is only in a few areas. The rest is a mix between light industry, and agriculture.

Semi-industrialized in certain areas while many others are reliant on agrarianism or nomadic lifestyles. The Volga Bolghars have stuck to their traditional lifestyles even with modernization. One spot that doesn't match an easy definition is that of Siberia due to the fact has been settled over the centuries by a hodgepodge of groups for different purposes. Depending on which parts you are going you could find highly industrialized mining towns or frontier farm villages.

Army Description : A confederation of different commands, tactics, and loyalties that web together to serve the commonwealth. The regional armies are expected only to garrison their armies. The imperial military is obliged to defend all areas of the empire. The imperial army while Mongolian in origins has adopted ideas from Eastern Rome

Army Weakness : As with the navy the army has an issue with decentralization, but the army of the Golden Commonwealth is far more skilled due to the warlike tendencies, and past of the Mongolians.

Naval Description : Multiple fleets of varying precision, and skill with a primary focus on defensive military stances, combating piracy, and the enlistment of private merchant fleets.

Naval Weakness : The decentralized nature of naval forces has for lack of a better word established several navies who report to different areas. The imperial navy located in the Black Sea is the only officially controlled government forces. Meanwhile, Finland and Novgorod pretty much have their own private navies and assist the imperial fleet in matters of piracy. The fleet of the east for all intents and purposes is privately owned by mercantile interests operating out of the eastern ports.

    Further Military Description :

    National Goals :

    1) The Imperial Agenda: The imperial court seeks to reform the commonwealth into a nation with clearly defined branches, and areas of authority.

    2) The Collectivist Agenda: The Collectivists though heavily divided into several schools of thought, and practice want to achieve greater representation for the worker. Whether they desire a workers state or a modern state which guarantees rights for the workers there is no clear majority in the collectivist thought.

    3) Rus revitalization League Agenda: The Rus revitalizers believe inherently in the supremacy of the Russian language, culture, and religion. That said they don't have a uniform goal. Some believe in the establishment of a unified Rus state while others believe in placing the primacy of the Rus within the empire.

    National Issues :

    1) Industrialization needs to be uniformly enforced amongst the various regions, but local autonomy prevents such imperial overreach. As a result, the farther you get from the imperial territory, and the Rus heartland the more agrarian, and nomadic the commonwealth is.

    2) Consolidation of an effective national identity, and government.

National Figures of Interest : 1) Leo Tolstoy:

    2) Leon Trotsky:

    3) Golden Emperor/Khagan: The current holder of the title is

    National Ambition/Aspirations :

    History :

    United Mongolian Empire (1206-1227)

Genghis Khan's imperial ambitions in China would not see much success despite him spending much of his life in an attempt to conquer it. Regardless the Mongolians did expand outwards at a rapid pace like no other.

[1211]: Genghis Khan ravages western Xia, but one of his commanders overzealous in their actions attacks a town belonging to the Song dynasty. Following the massacre, the Song proceeded to break off diplomatic relations with the Mongolians.

[1214-1215]: The defeat of Genghis Khan at the infamous battle of Yinchuan by the combined might of Jin, and Song put an end to Genghis and his ambitions in China for the rest of his life. Historians argue that had the battle gone the other way China very well may have begun to fall.

[1217-1221] Genghis Khan begins a campaign into the lands bordering the various states of the Rus, and by 1221 nearly borders them entirely.

[1227]: The Khagan is struck dead during a battle against the Bolgars inhabiting near the Volga river. Despite winning the battle that day the offensive is stalled in part due to the necessity of arranging a kurultai to elect a new Khagan.

    The Mongolian Empire Cracks (1228-1267)

[1228] Batu Khan is appointed over the far reaches of the western portions of Genghis Khan's empire.
[1236] The Bolgars on the Volga river fall in part due to the efforts of Batu Khan. He rests for the remainder of the year before beginning an offensive into the Rus.

    [1237-1242]

[1267] Khan Khaishan who is ruling in Mongolia goes against the advice of other Mongol rulers and launches an attack on Jin dynasty lands in China. While the dynasty pushes back the Mongols. The dynasty still is heavily devastated from the raids, but this proves to be the last straw as the other major Mongol rulers separate from Mongolia.

Time of Revolution, and Upheaval [1880s-Present]

[1885] The kurultai elect Abd Al-Ahad Khan as the Khagan and Golden Emperor. He presents himself as a stern reformist in the midst of an empire of a quagmire. He firstly proposes the "two nations" theory in part due to the growing discontent between the Russians, and the Russo-Mongolians. In his inauguration speech, he claims that both Russia and Mongolia need each other to survive due to how intertwined the two are.

[1887] Opponents of the two nations theory form the Rus revitalization league. The general intent is to secure the primacy of the Rus within the commonwealth, but how the faction means to achieve this is currently unknown due to several divergent schools of thought operating.

    A) Russian Unity Party: Believes in placing the Rus, its culture, and language as the source of primacy within the union. They also believe the principalities should be abolished, and unified as one nation.

    B) Russian Autonomous Group:

    C) Russian Independence Coalition:

[1900] The National Reform Congress forms with a coalition of several ideologies that while contradictory at several points intend on reforming the Golden Commonwealth into a proper nation.

[1904] Following a massacre of naval dock workers in the Rus principality of Pskov a revolutionary by the name of Vladimir Lenin stirs the principalities workers into revolution.

Unless I send you a direct TG... and I do this only to those whom my OPs pester me on... I usually keep reservations longer than 72 hour period. Only when I hear NOTHING from you do I consider removing your reserves. Your Britain will be here when you come back from finals, don't worry.

... having said that, we do need to move our pace since our IC has started. You may not be in the running for the Dreadnaught race. Just means that you don't start with one even if you do not, and you will have every right to construct one from your day1 post. So don't worry about you losing out a lot... because you won't be.

    Thank you !

Nearly done with my first post. It'll be setting up the storyline I'm thinking about implementing, but I'd like to wait on the results of some of the other apps to see who else I can interact with.

Full Nation Name : The Golden Commonwealth of the Rus.

      Majority/Official Culture : Russian & Russo-Monogolic.

Territorial Core : Russia, Finland, the Caucuses (Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan), Eastern Belorussia, Eastern Ukraine, Outer Manchuria, Central Asia

Territorial Claim : The lost princely states currently in possession of another power.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarai_(city)

      Population : 130 million.

Government Type : A confederation of Rus principalities, and the Golden Horde combined into a nominal empire. The supreme ruler is elected in traditional mongolic fashion and granted the title of Khagan to note his/her supremacy of rule over the Mongolians. In regards to Russians and others, however, he or she takes the title of Golden Emperor. Head of Government : The High Princely Minister elected from the Princely Council of the Rus, and the Kurultai of the Mongols.

Government Description : Please see history for government description. I will elaborate in further posts on the matter of governance if questions are asked. Currently, the situation is in need of reforming, and that will be one of the big starting points in my first IC posts.

That said the imperial military is at a disadvantage because of the commonwealths confederative nature.

Further Military Description : There are several factions arguing for reform within the military as well as the adoption of completely new tactics, and abandoning old Mongolian mentalities entirely.

      National Goals :

      1) The Imperial Agenda: The imperial court seeks to reform the commonwealth into a nation with clearly defined branches, and areas of authority.

National Figures of Interest : 1) Leo Tolstoy: An agrarian, and monastic figure who promotes a pacificist form of liberationism.

      2) Leon Trotsky: Believes in the reformation of the commonwealth into a Eurasian styled state following mass democracy, acceptance of multiracial makeup, and a form of collectivism which promotes gradual change in society.

      3) Golden Emperor/Khagan: The current holder of the title is Abd Al-Ahad Khan. He is a stern reformist and a no-nonsense ruler from the southern fringes of the imperial heartland. Elected from the Kurultai as a military, and the administrative candidate he will see the commonwealth to greatness before passing from this world.

      4) Vladimir Lenin: A radical collectivist who accepts revolution as a valid tool if needed whether it be peasant or factory worker. Has established a limited democracy in Pskov in which the revolutionary vanguard can participate. Anyone else has to undergo the proper revolutionary classes before they can participate in the ideal society.

National Ambition/Aspirations : Reformation into a federal structure, and clear definition of the various estates, and branches of power.

      History :

      United Mongolian Empire (1206-1227)

Genghis Khan's imperial ambitions in China would not see much success despite him spending much of his life in an attempt to conquer it. Regardless the Mongolians did expand outwards at a rapid pace like no other.

[1228] Batu Khan is appointed over the far reaches of the western portions of Genghis Khan's empire.

[1236] The Bolgars on the Volga river fall in part due to the efforts of Batu Khan. He rests for the remainder of the year before beginning an offensive into the Rus.

[1237-1242] Batu Khan's conquest of the Rus states is incredibly bloody and violent with hundreds of thousands being put to the sword, and several cities burned to the ground. Batu Khan began to turn his attention to Europe even going so far as to sack several polish towns, and cities before falling strangely ill.

[1256] The reign of Sartaq Khan while incredibly short does bring one incredible change, and that is the sponsorship of Christianity as a state religion. This branch of Christianity was unlike the ones familiar to them such as the Chalcedonians or Catholic schismatics.

The Golden Horde, and the World [1267-1359]

[1274] First attempt by Kublai Khan of Mongolia to invade Japan.

[1281] Second attempt by Kublai Khan of Mongolia to invade Japan.

[1281-1312] As the authority of the old Mongol heartland began to decline especially in the face of Kublai Khans repeated failures to expand into China or Japan the Golden Horde began to look west rather than east. During this time a succession of "monk" khans ruled earning their name by spreading monasteries across the territories directly controlled by them. One even fully abdicated to live out the rest of his life as a monk, but shortly this era came to an end.

[1313-1341] Reign of Uzbeg Khan: This khan allowed visitation by Buddhist lamas and Tengrist Mongols from the old homeland. The Golden Horde under Uzbeg saw a flourishing of trade especially with merchants from the northern port cities of the Western Roman Empire. Sarai exploded in growth from all this trade with a grand cathedral being built in the center of the city as well as libraries, and markets. The khan banned the practice of serfdom within the heartland following a complaint from a bishop about the horrid conditions they endured. It was at this time the military reached a maximum of 300,000 as well.

[1342–1357] Reign of Jani Beg Khan: Following a short dynastic war with his brothers Jani Beg the son of Uzbeg Khan firmly cemented his power. His policy of actively interfering the politics of the Rus tributary states would ultimately come to backfire on him. Some historians think during a siege he used catapults to launch dead body parts into a city as part of a terror campaign. This is believed to have spread the great black death across Europe whether intentional or not.

      Centuries of Trouble [1359-1480]

[1359-1381] The various states of the Rus attempt to form coalitions in several phases in an attempt to drive out the Golden Horde. By the 1370s they eventually succeeded if only for a short time as the Golden Horde assembled an army to reclaim the area.

[1381-1419] The Golden Horde would reclaim the Rus by blood, and in one infamous example, they tricked the Muscovites into surrendering on false promises. The commanders ordered the slaughter of the city. While the resistance by the Rus was put down the political leadership was unstable, and despite the reunification, the country was hardly in an ideal situation. Eventually, several contenders emerged, and in one case the capital of Sarai burned to the ground. Thanks to the fall of Mongolia to the Chinese there was no outside coming not even in the slimmest of chances.

[1420-1480] With Sarai gone, and the power vacuum beyond recovery the Golden Horde effectively fell within itself. Several different khanates formed, and the princes of the Rus didn't benefit from this as they had hoped. The khanates warred with them as much as they had each other. The polish even launched offensives effectively occupying several princely states.

End of the Fall, and Babur's dynasty (1480-1862)

[1480-1494] The last fourteen years of the centuries ridden war period would end, and see the rise of the Indian influenced dynasty of Babur Khan.

[1494-1530] Reign of Babur Khan: Educated in India by several different schools of thought the young khan would return his families land a conqueror. In a series of successive wars, and battles he reunited the old heartland of the Golden Horde under the name of the "Mughal Khanate". He converted to the church of the east, but freely allowed Buddhists, Hindus, and others to settle in the lands of his ancestors.

[1530-1556] Reign of Humayun Khan: Educated by Persian masters as well as the Indian ones his father had known the second ruler of Babur's dynasty began a rebuilding campaign of Sarai. The capital would heavily be influenced by Persian, and Indian architecture thanks to the different cultures Humayun experienced. During his reign, the now famous Sun-Throne was built in Sarai, and he married a princess from Moscow slowly reintegrating them into the empire as equals rather than vassals.

[1556-1605] Reign of Akbar I: Upon ascension to the Sun-Throne Akbar I proved to be unusual, but a brilliant ruler. He published the Golden Writ within a few years of his reign establishing a proto-constitution and reforming the khanate into the Golden Commonwealth.

Structure of the Imperial Government: Re-established the Mongolian Kurultai, but for the moment as an advisory body available to Mongolians, Turkic, and other people of the steppes. The princely council would be established as an advisory body to represent the people of the Rus who were equals rather than vassals to be brutalized and subjugated. Imperial provinces would be regulated by governors responsible for tax collection, and the ministers of the government would be known by their title of Viziers. In order to prevent corruption, a revenue department was founded to keep an eye on governors. There would be an official bureaucracy in charge of the royal bodyguard, royal court, and royal government.

A separate judiciary was founded to ensure fairness for the diversity of peoples, and beliefs.

Military: The military would be based on a system of appointments and promotes in regards to the imperial military. The elite of the military is formed from the four clans which comprise the Mingghans (Mongol regiment of 1,000) dating back to the clans sent over from Mongolia to aid the former Golden Horde. Persian and Indian tactics were integrated into the military as well. The official standing army is relatively small compared to the population size of the country these days. The highest it has ever gotten has been 300,000.

[1605-1627] Jahangir Khan: While nowhere near as tolerant of other religions as his father he continued aiding in the solidification of the confederative nature of the commonwealth. He also integrated into the remaining states of the Rus and worked to reconcile the Volga Bolghars with this new country. Given what the Mongols originally had done to their people they were understandably suspicious.

[1628-1658] Jahan Khan: One of the most noted of the Mughal emperors he was a reverent man who spent much of his life praying and traveling across the Rus on pilgrimage. When his wife died he was never the same even constructing an elaborate funerary cathedral to house her body in. Some say he died eventually of a broken heart. No one is entirely sure, but the one time Jahan did travel outside of the commonwealth was for war. Somewhere, and somehow war with Sweden had started. Following years of warfare, they ultimately lost and were forced to give Finland to the Commonwealth.

[1658-1707] Aurangzeb Khan: The last of the great Mughals he spent much of his time modernizing the military and trying to update written law to accommodate a new generation. He invited many scholars from Persia, India, and Eastern Rome for several talks on the nature of legal matters, and would get the nickname "the lawgiver" due in part to his desire to reform the current system.

[1707-1837] A period of decline of the commonwealth due to the machinations of the imperial court.

[1837-1862] Bahadur Khan II: The last of the Mughal dynasty there was initially hope for this emperor who seemed to be able to escape becoming of a puppet of the viziers. He spent much of his reign away from the capital of Sarai and began surveying the growing settlement effort well past the Volga. He was the first emperor to travel to the eastern port cities as well and began encouraging industrialization. During the moment he made the decision to travel back to the capital his caravan had been attacked a group known as the "Liberationists". The emperor and sons would be killed in this incident.

      The Interregnum [1862-1885]

The interregnum period is the time following the death of the last Mughal dynastic emperor. The military assumed control of the heartland and appointed the Kurultai legislative control. Relations with the Rus states were extremely uneasy, but greater threats would put them all past regional squabbles.

[1862-1876] The Liberationists War: Unlike previous wars of nationalistic concern the liberationists lead by Mikhail Bakunin were interested in the total liberation of society from the need of the state. The principality of Tver is overthrown, and Bakunin declares the establishment of the "free assembly". Historians refer to it unofficially as the Free Assembly of Tver. The early phase of the war was confined to the principalities until the last assembly fell in 1867. The fall of Tver triggered the "Arduous March" (1867-1869) in which the remaining Liberationists fled, and consolidated past the Volga.

This allowed the creation of a new "free region", and it was able to recuperate until 1872 when the military launched an offensive. The first few times the military was pushed back, but eventually, by 1875 a major counteroffensive breached into their territory. By the end of 1876, Bakunin was brought to face trial in Sarai and then hanged.

[1876-1885] Rule of the High Princely Minister: Due in part to the Kurultai's indecisiveness a uniquely democratic feature of the confederation allowed the elected rule of three different High Princely Ministers (176-1880) (1880-1884) (1885). Eventually, the Kurultai and the Princely Council elected Abd Al-Ahad Khan a local ruler from the southern portion of the imperial heartland.

Time of Revolution, and Upheaval [1885-Present]

      B) Russian Autonomous Group: Believes in the unification of a Rus state, but as a co-equal to the imperial heartland.

      C) Russian Independence Coalition: Believes in the unification of a completely independent Rus state.

The Collectivist Republic of Pskov is established, and Lenin visits the imperial capital assuring that the revolution is merely an internal matter, and this is just a change in governance. The republic is still part of the commonwealth, but simply under new management.

[1906] Chairman of the Eurasian Collectivist Society Leon Trotsky is elected as High Princely Minister. He begins talks with the imperial court, government, and reformist elements of the country to launch a massive change initiative for the country. Rumors from Sarai allege his efforts are making considerable progress, and upon the next imperial speech the emperor will supposedly announce incoming changes.

Iceland and Greenland could easily be accepted, but how are you going to have a colony in Nigeria?

I am curious about that myself, surely there is something closer to them?
