Clark decided to speak privately with the Idaho, Wyoming and Montana delegations. Clark argued that his support for free trade for established industries meant that farmers would have lower costs for vital machinery in addition to increased exports globally. Furthermore, Clark mentioned his support for moderate prohibition legislation, primarily the outlawing of public drunkenness, something which would benefit farmers through increased productivity. Clark concluded his conversation by emphasising his opposition to a Federal Reserve, something which would merely devolve into Federal interference towards American Farmers and the United States as a whole.
