Cridrac of Garbrann

Bridge of the Defiance

Cridrac had been made aware of the facts related to the most probable plan to be executed through the leadership. Authorized by one of the prisoners guarding the imprisoned guards, although under strict watch, he had observed the meeting and its connotations concerning leadership and direction. The opportunity to speak never came, as he felt it best to remain a passive observer, until the perfect moment. This was that moment.

With the rest of his 'crew', he had convinced one of the mutineers to allow him to speak with the new command on the prisoners' behalf. Without his batons or blaster, wearing a dark achromatic jumpsuit, Cridrac made his way to the bridge. He had requested that one of the mutineers follow him, as a guarantee of his good-will toward the new crew. He didn't want a criminal to be training a weapon on him the entire time, but it just felt safer than wandering the halls alone. He wasn't a Dhasath, but there were probably several beings who would love the chance to consume him.

Nearing the bridge he paused.
Would this work?
He hoped it would, because if it didn't than he would become desperate. Once he made his way inside the bridge, he waited until his guard had positioned themselves next to the door.
Here goes nothing.

Cridrac approached the two individuals who had ascended to the leadership. Unorthodox seemed the best word to describe them. The female, clearly a Dhasath, resembled your average Dhasath with a few small exceptions. Those eyes were wrong, only Kiel had that color. The male, something wasn't right about him either. He was tall, Cridrac estimated over six feet. A Dhasath over six feet was unheard of, especially when combined with flaxen hair. He could have been a Kiel, as he possessed the proper height. However, he was lacking the signature lobes and common bio-enhancements. Why the crew had chosen these two, there was no clear answer. Finally he had resigned himself to the possibility of the presence of speciesism between the ship's unconventional life-forms leading to the election of these two candidates.

"I would like to speak on the behalf of myself and my three comrades currently contained, as there may be a solution which is mutually beneficial for us."
Cridrac would explain, if given the chance, on how the four (himself included) Kiellar crew members who had escaped death were interested in being tasked with securing the ship. It would seem logical that the ship have some form of security on board, preferably if a large percentage of the crew were to disembark. If this plan failed, Cridrac would speak of an alternative, serving as elite security, in the format of two guards for each one of the Defiance's new leaders.

He had agreed with himself long ago that if given the chance he would run to the Kiellar Empire. There was so much waiting for him which he had spent decades on. For the moment, that was impractical, as to why his group's rash decision was made.

Thanica, the real Dhasath, and the one who had served on the Defiance before her sudden act of rebellion was her usual chirpy self, "Cridrac!" she smiled in greeting, listening intently to everything he had to say and, until she opened her mouth, it might have appeared that he had her on-board with his plan.

He didn't though, "You know what Dhasath are really good at?" she asked rhetorically, not waiting for a response, "We have a very strong sense of when someone might be hunting us."

"Were I, and I am not trying to imply anything about you, a Kiellar loyalist, I might think the best way to ingratiate myself with Command and avoid execution for incompetence would be to kill the leaders of this little act of rebellion and present their heads to my imperial masters."

"Replacing any bodyguards they might have with Command loyalists would be the perfect way to exploit any moment of vulnerability, when they were alone, unarmed and had no friends to leap to their defence." she added with a charming smile, as assurance that she really wasn't trying to imply anything, "So as much a I'm sure you mean well, the answer is 'no' at this point. Have you considered if you want to get off the ship at the next stop or not?"

Thanica understood Cridrac's ambivalence about the mutiny - in many respects it was utter madness. She wasn't about to try to force him to join and she appreciated that he hadn't tried to fake commitment to the cause... But unless he was on-board he was always going to be a potential threat to her and her new crew.

Sho'chavuk

The three may have been tense this whole time, but Sho remained relatively calm. He had reservations about trusting these people, but at the moment, he had no choice but to accept their assistance. So he kept his arms up in the air, listening half-heartedly as the unknown creature spoke his worries about the Tz'ath, and the Kiel continued his slow, reluctant approach. Sho narrowed his eyes slightly as Vrondich explained what he was going to do at that moment and what the current situation was on the ship. Whatever, he thought, his irritation becoming more evident as his tail made wide sweeping movements. I just need these blasted things off.

FInally, the Kiel, Vrondich, stepped forward to free Sho who rolled his eyes. He expected his arms to be freed first, but upon seeing the Kiel reaching for his head, tensed up momentarily. He realized immediately after that his silent request was not recognized, but disregarded it for the moment. He was just happy to be able to make use of his mouth again. And once the damaged headcage was off, Sho's eyes followed it to the spot where Vrondich had set it down. After that it was the arm restraints, which came off with a click before the light on it flashed once and died out.

"Aggghhh." Sho snarled and yawned, revealing a mouthful of sharp teeth. "Free at last." Then, stretching out his short but stocky form, moved over to the headcage and began taking large bites out of it. He spoke over his shoulder to the three. "I should thank you. But my nature compels me to eat you instead. So take my avoidance of such barbarism as your gratitude." he turned to face them, swallowing a well-chewed piece of metal. "Now, you mentioned a mutiny. Against the Kiellar Command, I presume? How bold. But I am happy to have my fate out of their hands." Facing them fully now, "You mentioned working together.. Perhaps I may somehow return the favor?"

Cridrac of Garbrann

Bridge of the Defiance

Of course, he had hoped for something to good to be true. Now he may have ruined their chances completely.
There goes plan A and plan B. There has got to be another option.

Inside the Neutral Zone, there were no protections for members of the Kiellar, especially those with the bionic markings of serving within the elite ranks of the Command. If it were even possible, heading back to the Kiellar's territory without stopping the mutiny wouldn't end well for the returnees. Kiellar were expected to never surrender, as they would be treated as traitors if they returned without annihilating their captors. Of course, even if the four miraculously managed to neutralize the entire movement and report back; there was a high chance that three of them would be labeled as traitors and subsequently executed at random, with the remaining member labeled as the hero. Cridrac didn't aspire for such a disgraceful end.

"I will attempt to convince my comrades to join your organization's cause. It is really the only option we have other than disembarking and attempting to steal a ship. Even if we were to do so, it is doubtful we would have anywhere safe to go." He hesitated, they obviously wouldn't agree unless he had certain guarantees.

"I also stress that we would be comfortable with such an arrangement as long as we had two guarantees. First, we are never to enter Kiellar space. Such a move would be suicide, as the response to such an aggression would be doubled as former Kiellar would be among the crew. Secondly, as long as we serve the cause, we are on an equal level as the other mutineers. We have noticed that no rules have been set for this organization, however I am certain that the majority of us would prefer not to be eaten as someone's lunch."

Regardless if his terms were accepted or denied, Cridrac would thank his host before making his way back to the room where the three Kiellar remained. If she had denied such terms, most likely the crew would request to be dropped off and attempt some sort of suicide heist. If she accepted, there was a high probability that all members would be willing to commit to the cause. After all, what else did they have left?

The Defiance-Stairwells
Co-written by Harbertia and Bingellia

Mihal, now rather well dressed compared to most of the rest aboard past by Cirdrac with Sshalah close behind carrying the drawer from the confiscation bay."So, Sshallah, if I may ask, what did you do to get here?" Mihal honestly didn't know what answer to expect, but the conversation was nice for the trudge up the stairs.

Sshalah wasn't having any trouble carrying the weight but the steps where made for much smaller feat then her own making the climb slow, "It's more what my uncle did," she said coordinating her tail to aid in balance while getting a look at her feet to watch her steps, "he thought to surprise us with some Dhalash but it ended up being a sting set up by Kiellar Command. We resisted, I got caught, and they assume that because I'm a Ragon I must be a recurring customer and possibly linked to the high demand Dhalash livestock trade so in addition to trying to bite an officer's head off they put the purchasing of illicit goods on me as a charge." She got used to the climb by then.

"I wasn't expecting honesty, especially with that being the truth. Thank you." He smiled, although the Ragon wouldn't be able to see it. "You probably heard me try to plead my innocence to the guards. Well, that is true. I was framed by some higher-ups for embezzling assets and funneling funds to some federalist or some other revolt group." He sighed as he looked down at his ring, "So, here I am. An innocent man who's aboard a slaveship far from home."

"Do you know if those currently in control fo the ship are with a faction or acting on their own?" she asked, Thanica's speech didnt' give an impression of association nor did the command chain discussion on the bridge.

"Well, the chief engineer told me that this mutiny was committed by a cell of sorts, but I'm unsure if they have any ties beyond each other." Mihal did a sort of half-shrug as they passed onto the second deck, "Politics were always above my salary."

Sshalah took a glance around the second deck before speaking; "If, that's the case, you'll look even more guilty helping them- not that a convicted man need to worry about further guilt among the Kiellar but- if there is some honor code among your people I- I don't mean to be intrusive or dire- but don't the Kiellar punish the relatives of convicts?" she asked, she really didn't know what life under the Kiellar was like though being sentenced to labor was a confirmation of part of what she'd heard.

"My family are citizens, and civilians at that," Mihal rubbed the back of his neck, "We have protections against arbitrary punishment. While the judiciary will go after families of slaves and non-citizens, it's rarely done to citizens outside of assassinations." He did have to stifle a tear or two as his thoughts turned to family, "Still, I'll never be able to go home."

"I'm sorry for that, I let my curiosity get the better of me. It's not easy for me right now," her neck swelled slightly for a moment, "I'm- not use to these conversations. I did well in the mess hall earlier - perhaps I was still having a rush or caught up in Thanica's intoxicated delight. I- wanted to talk to her about this but, it's really hard to gauge the others. I've been utterly honest hoping to get honesty returned to aid in adjusting- I told her as I shall tell you- I don't want to be here as an outsider and thus far everyone's been really nice to me. I know why I'm being nice, but- I'm not sure why the others are. Sure I've had some cross words put towards me before this, and people fear me- but- it's going better then I expected. I- is this too personal- are we getting too personal? Again I meant to speak with Thanica who released me but you are delightful company."

"It is not easy for any of us, besides the homicidal maniacs." Mihal sighed, this was turning out to be more difficult then he expected it would be, and they haven't even given the human's their things yet. "I'll admit, my prejudices had colored my first reactions in the hold, but the fact that you've not eaten anyone here yet means you deserve a chance." He glanced over his shoulder, making eye contact the best he could as they went up to the first deck, "But you've gotten off lucky. We need to stick together right now, and nobody wants to take their odds against the 4 meter tall reptile."

A crooked smile came over her face with some pitty in her eyes, mixed with relief; "Tha-anks." and such was as far as her honesty reached. She gulped nerviously while averting her gaze. "For giving me the chance." she was still looking away. "Though I have not in fact been so eh- lucky. The snacks I was provided for the journey where not- filling and I was in an ill mood. I hope that having walked such distance with me through the ship and been so close that you may pardon me of such. A Ragon's got to eat after all?" she gave him a toothy half opened mouth grin with a slight chuckle.

Mihal froze at the implication of Sshallah's reply. The feeling of the reptile bumping into him snapped in back into reality and sent him moving again up the stairs, although he was still as pale as bone. " Dear gods," He spoke barely above a whisper, "You mean to say that you've eaten someone? Yet you seemed so... so tame?"

"I'm not a violent person, I just don't think well when I'm hungry- part of being cold blooded- the brain needs energy to function and the body goes into this- really focused mode. I've seen it with mammals, if they are not fed enough and often enough- and they have to eat a lot they do eat each other. I'm really a nice person, I don't like animal abuse, I love pets, and well you've spoke with me surely enough to describe me as tame. Hunger drives one to desperate acts and I only need to eat once a week, a lot less than a mammal so you can imagine how unfilling those snacks where. Oh- oh no-" she stopped, "I just remembered I have a mess to clean up. Not the person I ate no, I've done something really bad. I was so focused on one scent I wasted meat. Now there are two less of you, and I have no excuse for that. Now that my mind is coming back together, I can reflect on that, and I'm so sorry for the loss. The one I ate wasn't a life I took, but having taken lives and did nothing with them- I don't think I'll forgive myself. I'm so sorry for that."

"Who?" He hissed with rage as he marched up the last steps onto the first deck. It would not be long before they reached the bridge. "Who were they? Gods be damned, who were they!"

Sshalah followed close now whispering as he was; "I don't know," she said somewhat agitated, "I'm not the person who likes knowing them. If they are still there we can find out, I know the one I ate was the Captain but I don't have a name for the individual. Will knowing who they were help? Surely in finding out who I actually need to apologize to for the waste- I don't want any hard feelings over the loss to linger though I know I've done wrong. I was selfishly after a specific scent and allowed them to waste- their lives ending with no fulfilled purpose- I don't even know if they where with the revolt or command- I wanted to find the one who freed me to know who was for and who was not- yet I killed them the same- they didn't even have weapons on me they just stood in my way of reaching Thanica for answers. Now I'm worried- what if they where people Thanica knows or the Vordich knows."

Mihal couldn't believe it, she had killed a man aboard and desecrated the Captain's corpse, and yet she considered herself "friendly." He shook his head, "Enough! I've heard enough! Let's just get to the bridge and give the humans their belongings." Mihal took a deep breath and tried to recompose himself before stepping through the door into the bridge. "Appearances, Mihal, appearances," He murmured to himself.

"There were compelling reasons." Vrondich replied, though he didn't go into the fact that nobody who had mutinied had got what they wanted. He and Rabaech had been trying to free a Federalist leader who was still stuck in a pod and neither of them had any idea which, while Thanica had thought she was freeing some of her own people but free 'humans' instead. That one was on him.

He had got the reason for the mask correct and thought he had the species right too, a Tza'th, unless he was much mistaken, "Remember, if you're feeling hungry, there's a Dhasath on-board!" he phrased it as a joke for Novo and Rabaech's benefit, though if this little creature did take Thanica out of the picture it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing for the ship (in his opinion), "And yes, we are working together for now. I'm sure most people just want to go home, but for now we're stuck on a broken ship in the Neutral Zone. If people want to get home, first we need to get money, supplies and spare parts. If you want to help out, talk to the Commander. She has some crazy scheme to try to rob a casino owner."

Which would also put 'Commander Vari' on a collision course with another predator though firm odds were that she'd manage to ingratiate herself with this one as well. He wasn't really putting her at risk.

"We're not negotiating." Thanica replied, gently but firmly, "Though most of what you want was already on offer. Equal footing with everyone else on the ship - of course. That was never in doubt. No, we don't have rules in place but prisoner or free, nobody harm is coming to anyone under my watch if I can do anything to prevent it. That is one of the reasons we're about to do this supply run. We need livestock on the ship so that the larger, predatory, former prisoners aren't tempted to eat crew. Particularly me." she motioned at herself, "Be thankful for being Kiellar; any predator species I know will take Dhasath before they move onto less desirable prey."

On the far side of the bridge's viewing panels the green flow of hyperspace slipped past as they hurtled through the blackness of space towards their target, "As for Kiellar space... well I imagine most of the people here want to either get home or find somewhere away from Command where they can settle in peace. I can't promise anything though. We'll do what we need to do." what she didn't say was that some of the mutineers were Federalists (namely Vrondich and Rabaech) and were probably quite motivated to try to spread the Revolution back in Kiellar space. She hadn't had a conversation with them about it though so couldn't be sure what their plans for the future were.

"In case you were wondering, I'm in the 'settle in peace' group." she informed Cridrac, "If I can find somewhere where nobody wants to sell, kill, dismember or eat me, I'll be quite content... but anyway, those are the terms. You and the others are free to get off at the next stop, or you can join us. If you go with the latter, I will do everything in my power to prevent anything bad from happening to any one of you."

Cridrac of Garbrann

Bridge of the Defiance

Oh, well, that worked.
"It is clear that this organization's mission is in flux at the moment, so I understand that our first guarantee couldn't be given. Thank-you for accepting our request for safety, I personally believe we will decide on joining the crew." Cridrac turned and was almost outside of the bridge before revolving about.

With a "thank-you, captain" and a Kiellar salute, he marched back to his cell with the guard close behind.
After he had arrived and the room was cleared of non-Kiellar, his three comrades allowed him to submit his proposal. Cridrac explained how it was best that they join the crew, as it was a wonderful opportunity for them. Most if not all, understood the consequences of returning to their former allegiance.

When Cridrac had completed his emotionally drained monologue he opened the floor for voting, only to be interrupted by one of his comrades.
She was a young Kiel, one who had surrendered non-voluntarily while unconscious. She glanced around the room as she spoke, as if to gain the support of her allies.
"What if this 'Federation' decides to head straight for Relenar? Are you comfortable with such a thought, Cridrac?"

Cridrac took a deep breath before he launched his response. "No, of course I am not comfortable with it. Frankly, its either this or we end up on some backwards rock where we are kidnapped and used across a spectrum of abuse."

"Yes, I get that. What about the Federation?" Mothlua, for that was her name, wasn't giving up.

"Clearly as my captain has pointed out, she isn't exactly part of the Federation. The majority of this ship's inhabitants hold no Federation alliances, so it is highly doubtful that we would ever embark on such a mission."

The other two Kiellar had been silent up to this moment. They were especially silent, as they were the ones who failed to defend the Captain from Thanica's assault. "That wasn't the question, Cridrac. What if Thanica does ally herself to the Federation? What if we end up heading toward Kiellar space and certain death?"

With a sigh, he only gave a logical response. "Its not like Thanica is going to go against the majority of the crew for a minority of Kiellar rebels. She isn't stupid, she knows that there is no moratorium on mutinies after a mutiny."

"Yes, but what if she does."

"Then you two are free to try 'Assassination 2.0', although I doubt you will do so. If I remember correctly, she is the one who saved you two from joining a buffet."
Cridrac called for a vote. The vote was unanimous, so Cridrac requested that the remaining members follow him directly to the bridge. They were to join the crew. As they approached the bridge, two of the guards shrank in fear. It must have been some form of Déjà vu as inside the bridge was the same Ragon, with Thanica. With Cridrac issuing an order of silence, the four guards slowly entered the bridge, taking positions alongside a far wall, hoping to be unnoticed by the current guest.

"Ha! Of that I am sure!" said the Tz'ath mostly to himself as Vrondich continued to speak. He was still gorging himself on the mangled headcage, but listening all the while. Though he wondered why these Kiel had turned against their own nation, he decided not to ask. He was more interested in the words that followed. Sho took the remark about the Dhasath as a genuine suggestion, and turned his head towards Vrondich. There was a faint glint in his eye as he rose to his feet, now fully facing the three. It looked like he was going to take up the Kiel's offer, but his expression shifted in the blink of an eye, and he waved his hand dismissively at Vrondich.

"Not at this moment, thank you." he said looking disinterested, but then adding with a sneer, "I will consider, though."

He then let Vrondich expound further on their situation and mention Commander and their plan. To this Sho reacted quite notably. "Mmmm... Robbing a casino owner.." he repeated thoughtfully. By then he'd consumed the entirety of the headcage and was now standing there, hands firmly on his hips while his tail swayed back and forth. "That sounds like quite a pleasant venture indeed." He paused to scratch his chin, then looked straight back at the three. "A venture I would certainly like to help see through.. Now, why don't you take me to this Commander of yours that we may make arrangements as to my future role and my share of the spoils, hm?"

Thanica Vari

Thanica was still at the navigation console when Cridrac got back, slouched back in her chair with one foot braced on the edge of the console, anchoring her and keeping her from sliding right out of her chair onto the floor. She turned as the four Kiellar entered, filing in like the soldiers she supposed they still thought of themselves as. This should be good. The bridge was becoming relatively crowded so she didn't think they were going to try to stab her or anything similar, but she was half-expecting insults, maybe even spitting. She was, after all, a treacherous auxiliary who had betrayed her Kiellar masters.

"So, how can I help you good folk?" she asked, sounding bright and cheerful while bracing herself for a storm of abuse...

"Rabaech, show this one up to the bridge." Vrondich ordered.

The order drew a sigh from the small, jumpy looking Kiellar with glasses, "Alright, come with me." he said to the small, hungry creature that had just eaten a metal cage. It was... a very strange thing to do. Even if he was really starving and it wouldn't break his teeth, Rabaech couldn't imagine himself trying to eat metal. It didn't look at all tasty and couldn't be all that nutritious. Maybe the creature liked the texture?

The flight of stairs out of the storage bay led up three levels, then down one of two long corridors through the crew quarters that converged again at the bridge itself. It wasn't a particularly long walk, but Rabaech, either through nervousness or helpfulness, decided to share a bit of information and his opinion on 'spoils' as they made their way there, "So there's two of them... the leaders that is. The Captain and the Commander. I'm not sure exactly which one is in charge. Probably the Captain since that is the senior rank? It's a bit confusing at the moment. Anyway... I think you'll have a hard job convincing either of them to let you keep any spoils in the short term. I think they'll want to spend everything on ship upkeep, but I could be wrong on that one."

"Anyway." he stopped by the door to the bridge, motioning for the strange little monster to go in. It was looking very crowded in there, "The small one at the navigation console is Commander Vari." he pointed out. There were a lot of ways to describe Thanica which were more descriptive than 'small', but there was only one person at a console. The blonde male that looks like a Dhasath but apparently isn't is the Captain, but I can't see them in there."

While a Kiellar, who relied heavily on their sense of sight, Dhasath and humans were extremely hard to tell apart; however, for a Tza'th with their acute sense of smell, the difference between them was like pretty obvious. There was a very distinctive sweetness to the scent of a Dhasath that was entirely absent from the human scent profile.

"Follow me and don't stare at the giant reptile."
This generated a chuckle from Mothlua, while the other two began to force themselves to stare at the details of the room's construction in order to avoid the Ragon's gaze. With his three allies closely by his side, Cridrac approached the back of the navigation console so they were facing Thanica.

"We have decided, unanimously, that we wish to join this organization." The other three Kiellar nodded in unison. As they awaited a response each member of the quartet attempted to act relaxed, although clearly the situation was tense. Cridrac kept eye contact with Thanica, as did the others, until they drifted elsewhere. Mothlua was trying to figure out what kind of species the light-haired male was, repeatedly glancing from Thanica to him in order to avoid awkwardness. The other two individuals, would take turns looking at the Ragon and the viridescent hue of hyperspace.

Thanica Vari

"Oh..." Thanica looked surprised. She stood up from her chair, considering her options. They might have been hoping to get weapons and start a fight, but there were more released prisoners and mutineers than surviving loyal crew and they were armed as well. An attempt to take the ship back over would be extremely high risk so, she decided, probably not all that likely. If they were going to work together, she would need to take the risk and trust these people. Hopefully they appreciated the gesture.

Instead she approached Cridrac and gave him one of the peculiar Dhasath greetings she had given Carter earlier - she clasped his right forearm, then hugged him, "Welcome aboard." she said, moving down the line of Kiellar troopers, welcoming each of them, in turn, to the ranks of the rebellion that had formed on the Defiance.

"Right... Well I guess now would be the time to tell you we've set a course for a huge brothel-casino in space where we intend to try to win the money to make ship repairs by cheating at cards." she paused, staying off into the middle distance for a moment, "When I put it like that it seems like a really bad idea. Basically you can all go and entertain yourselves, just remember which side you're on if someone starts shooting at me."

Sho'chavuk

At Vrondich's request, Rabaech beckoned Sho and led him up to the ship's bridge. As they ascended the stairs, Sho felt an urge to pounce and bite. But he successfully resisted. How strange, he thought, narrowing his eyes, that these creatures would trust me so readily. He nodded and hummed to himself. Had I been a different individual, I would have certainly eaten them all.. And I would have taken over this ship.

Fortunately he wasn't a different individual, and he was capable of compliance. In fact, he looked very excited as he trudged up the stairs with the wary Kiel. The wide, toothless grin on his face probably didn't help. As they walked though, Sho'chavuk made sure to memorize every notable object and pathway, just in case things went awry. His train of thought was interrupted when Rabaech addressed him. Something about the leaders and the fact that there were two of them at the moment. Sho felt a bit disappointed about the whole spoils issue, but himself believed that Rabaech was wrong. He had to be. It was only right to let him keep his share if he helped them.

His evident frown remained as they finally reached the bridge, and the two peeked in. Rabaech pointed out Thanica, whose scent Sho'chavuk recognized right away. His ears perked up, and so did the quills along the side and on the back of his head. Though as the other Dhasath-looking creature was mentioned, his ears flattened, and his expression changed to one of perplexion. And what might that mean..? he asked himself, eyes floating over to Rabaech before going straight back to the lot in the bridge.

Changing his posture to one more worthy of respect, Sho glanced back at Rabaech and bowed slightly. "Well, thank you for escorting me, aelf. I will now speak to your uh.. Leaders.."

As he was just about to march in though, he noticed a group of Kiellar were already in there. They spoke with the one identified as Thanica about 'joining the organization'. Thanica then performed a Dhasath greeting known to Sho'chavuk and told her plan to the group. That was when Sho saw an opportunity and he marched right in, looking like he felt much bigger than he was. "Excuse me." he walks in rather gauntly, index finger straight up in the air. "But I would like to join you on this wonderful endeavour." He places a hand on his chest dramatically, "I have been directed here by your loyal subjects that I may discuss my role and later, rewards with you, O esteemed Captain." He ends by bowing to one knee in front of Thanica, eyes closed tightly and ears flopped onto the floor.

Captain Nathan Taylor Carter
Bridge, the Defiance.

After dealing with Krystyn’s episode, as well as his own doubts and anxiety, Carter had head back to the Bridge and accompanied Thanica throughout her handling of the ship. It was calm for a few moments as the human and the Dhasath talked more about their respective cultures and galaxies. It was like this for a while as both Captains sat on the piloting seats of the Defiance, Carter still trying to take in everything, it was a struggle to do so but little by little he began to accept this new reality, and he soon realized he had to face it with conviction and courage he had always shown since his military days.

Thanica would show Carter the handlings of the ship from time to time, how to run diagnostics and handle the very elaborate systems and consoles of the ship. The short lessons took Carter back to his piloting days but though the Human tried his best to understand what the Dhasath explained to him, most of it he couldn’t even grasp at first, it would take a lot of time.

The two commanders were soon greeted by one of the Kiellar prisoners, Cridrac was his name, he along with the other 3 Kiellar Command crew members had been kept in the improvised cells that had once held most of the current crew of the ship and Carter himself. Carter was not subtle about his dislike for Cridrac and the Kiellar as a whole, tortured, abused, and gagged like an animal by the Command and the former crew of the ship, it didn’t bestow in him a lot of trust in Cridrac.

The Kiellari spoke on behalf of himself and the other prisoners, offering himself and his comrades service’s as “personal bodyguards” for the two commanders. The idea was laughable at best and insulting at worse, Carter rose from his seat, making sure to always have his holstered blaster sidearm and his Kiellar rifle strapped on his back readily handy and visible to the Kiellar. The once freak of the galaxy who’d been cuffed and gagged was now in control, and he wanted to make Cridrac know that.

Thanica demonstrated a more social and even welcoming mannerism, first it made Carter worried that she was actually considering the Kiellar’s proposal, but soon this worry turned into relief and a smile at the Dhasath’s wittiness and sarcasm, as well as her intuitiveness.

With Thanica quick to call out Cridrac’s bullshit, the Kiellar soon changed his stance in that he would try to convince his comrades into joining the crew, yet he was also demanding certain conditions, the notion made Carter shake his head as he remained a few meters behind Thanica, one of his hands on his holster.

Thanica again was quick to put Cridrac’s attitude in check and let him know this was not a negotiation but a set offer, still most of the Kiellar’s conditions were already included in the Dhasath’s offer, if they truly wanted them dead they would be already, Carter himself knew that and he wasn’t even from this galaxy. Soon the Kiellar accepted the original offer and went on to try and convince his fellow Kiellar in joining the renegade crew without any further stalling. Carter himself who had remained silent through the whole thing made a comment to Thanica when the Kiellar left.

“We should we careful about him and the others. I trust your judgement but I have my own too.” His words showed he trusted his fellow commander but that he was also weary about the Kiellar and wouldn’t be one for trusting his own life in their hands.

Soon Cridrac and the other Kiellar returned, Thanica in her seat and Carter a few feet right besides her, still brandishing his weapons with a clear message directed at the Kiellar. Meanwhile, the more welcoming Thanica spoke to Cridrac and he expressed that the four had decided to join the “organization”, the word made Carter let out a “Hmmmps…” but he would respect whatever Thanica’s approach was.

Carter nodded along Thanica’s explanation, still keeping quiet while making his support of her quite clear. He was not about to trust any of them, but again, he trusted Thanica’s judgement and he stood by her mostly due to her being the only person he could truly trust now. Suddenly a new presence arrived to the Bridge.

The well dressed civilian deliberately cleared his throat loudly, having waited long enough for the soldiers to finish their business. "Excuse me, Commander. The Ragon and I were going through the hold looking for our things and we found a drawer marked "Xeno ship." We think it's the hiumann's possessions." Mihal gestured for Sshalah to step forward with the drawer, "It's mostly electronics, but there are some pictures, some type of glasses, and a piece or two of jewelry. We haven't gone through it all."

His eyes widening and with excitement clear in his voice Carter stood firmly and said.

“It’s likely from my ship! Hopefully its all still there.” He walked towards the well dressed Kiellar named Mihal and the Ragon named Sshalah who he still felt some fear of and yet the Human did his best to show confidence as best as he could.

Carter began to check the box’s interior, he had a smile in his face, it was almost like a child in Christmas opening a gift. He saw through many of his Crew’s belongings, photos, medals, phones, and other menial things, but the first belonging of his own he found was a pair of sunglasses.

“Sweet!” He said out loud as he grabbed the glasses and put them on, it was most likely a weird sight for most of the people in the bridge but he didn’t care. Carter then gave another look into the box, finding photos of his crew and himself back on Earth he found something that made him even more happy, his music player.

Taking the device with shaky hands of enthusiasm he pressed on the side button, he hope it was still functional and indeed it was as it turned on.

“Yes!” He yelled out, he walked away from the box and towards Thanica, still with his sunglasses on and a smile in his face.

“You think this could connect with the ship’s system?” He said with an eagered voice.

Olorisa was overjoyed after being reprogrammed. Now fully integrated with the ship, she felt like she had on the Destiny (save the lack of cameras), only without the annoying protocols telling her what to do. She had, however, been mostly silent. Much of her time had been spent studying the translation software; though she was an AI, she had been designed to learn languages rather than simply be programmed with a dictionary, so she'd develop more natural conversation patterns. So far she'd made reasonable progress. She'd also been trying to learn more about the strange beings that were now her crew, though she had made little progress here; this was a simple prison ship, so it didn't have a wealth of reading material on its computers.

Remembering that she was now in service again, she checked the ship's clock, only to be alarmed by how much time had passed. She was still adjusting to the different units of time used by the aliens. She calmed herself, however, knowing that she would have detected any serious threats. She listened in to the chatter on the bridge, focusing mostly on Captain Carter's voice - though she reminded herself that this 'Thanica' was her Captain now.

"Captain Carter! You have found your belongings, correct? This is good news."

Though the question wasn't directed at her, she replied "If you can devise a way to connect your player to the ship, I could convert your music files into ones playable by the ship."

The fact that she was now familiar with both human and Kiellar hardware would likely help indeed.

"Additional query. Have I missed any critical events onboard? I may have... lost track of time, as you say."

There almost seemed to be a tone of embarrassment there. Perhaps there was.

Olorisa’s sudden voice through the bridge’s comms caught Carter off guard at first, but quickly he was smiling still as he made a happy gesture with his hands. Olorisa was back and with that he at least felt that part of the Destiny had remained intact, that and having a second hand at the ship by someone familiar was all too good to be true.

“Olorisa! You have no idea how good it is to hear you back in action girl!” Carter replied, the AI followed on the subject of Carter finding his belongings.

"If you can devise a way to connect your player to the ship, I could convert your music files into ones playable by the ship."

“Y-yes, let me see this…” Carter stuttered as he checked his player, walking towards the consoles he looked for anything resembling some sort of cord or connector but again it was all to alien to him and he opted to not touch anything, an idea then came to him. Carter turned on the bluetooth

“Olorisa, you think you can connect with it through wirelessly?” Carter asked towards Olorisa.

"I'm Rabaech, who's Alf?" Rabaech looked confused, then shook his head, "I'll be down in engineering if anyone wants me."

Thanica meanwhile was left feeling just a little awkward at the unexpected newcomer. She wasn't someone people usually held in any great esteem, "There's no need to bow to me." she said, laughing a little nervously as she motioned for Sho to stand up, "I am Commander Vari, and he is Captain Carter." she waved in Carter's direction. He seemed rather caught up in trying to interface some of his equipment with the ship, which she assumed wasn't going to cause the ship to explode or malfunction. If Rabaech had stuck around she might have suggested he give Carter a hand... but he and the AI seemed to have things under control.

"I don't have any subjects, I'm just a crew member who was elected to help lead." she explained. The crown of leadership did not sit very easily with her, it seemed, "I'm not sure if the engineers have told you the ship has taken some serious damage. We need repairs, urgent repairs, or we are going to be marooned in space. We don't have any money, but we have a plan to acquire the parts by using me as collateral. Once the ship is up and running, then we will need to have a discussion around the table about what we want to do, but until then, getting essential systems back in working order is the priority. At this point your role can be just about anything you want it to be. Your reward is your freedom and your survival. If you'd rather go your own way rather than work with us, once we hit this casino you can hop of there and we will wish you the best."

It was the same deal she was offering everyone.

Sho'chavuk

As Rabaech returned to wherever it was he was needed, Sho rolled his eyes. He didn't feel the need to explain himself. 'Aelf' was just something Tz'aths liked to call Kiel. It wasn't a derogatory term but rather a nickname.

Anyway, that was earlier. Now Sho'chavuk was on one knee, awaiting a response from the so-called Captain of the ship. "There's no need to bow to me." she'd said, looking a bit uncomfortable by his actions. Squinting slightly he stands up, looking left and right. "Uhm. Okay." he says out of the side of his mouth.

"I am Commander Vari, and he is Captain Carter." she said, throwing gestures around accordingly. Sho's eyes followed. He was beginning to get caught up in the scent that she gave off, which caused his ears to slowly rise until they were pointing straight up in the air, oriented towards Thanica.

"I don't have any subjects, I'm just a crew member who was elected to help lead." she continued, and the Tz'ath listened, though he was having trouble containing himself as was evident by his lip-licking and teeth-grinding. It wasn't all too weird though, and he nodded every now and then to show he was still there. At some point he clasped his hands together and wrapped his tail around them as he grew more nervous, and thankfully Thanica seemed not to notice.

Up until that point, Sho was fine. Hearing those words his expression changed from one of pure excitement to one of bewilderment. He raised his hand to speak, index finger extended, but he let her finish first.

"If you'd rather go your own way rather than work with us, once we hit this casino you can hop off there and we will wish you the best."

"U-uhm. Well, surely there are things that we will be collecting - material things - that we can keep, yes?" he asks gingerly. "O-of course freedom and survival are most excellent things, but you see I find myself equally interested in.. Spoils." he pauses, fiddling with the tip of his tail. "So.. I will gladly work with you and assist however I can, but I get to keep whatever I can get away with taking." then with quite some dignity in his voice, "Such is the law, after all." he says, forgetting that Tz'athi laws didn't apply to every other locale in the galaxy.

Thanica hid it well, but she'd noticed the signs of a predatory hunger in the newcomer. Oh good... another one to look out for. Thanica hadn't survived for as long as she had by being easy pickings, but being trapped in the tight confines of a ship with creatures that would do her harm was risky; running or hiding were out of the question on the Defiance. She just had to make sure there were potent motivators to not attack her.

"In case you hadn't noticed, we're criminals." she gave a short laugh, "I don't think the laws apply anymore." Certainly not some strange alien one that, from what she could see, existed purely as a pretext to go looting, "So, that being said, I don't care if you are a bit light fingered, provided you don't steal off the crew, don't horde something which might be essential to our survival and don't do anything that would put a mission in jeopardy.

"Oh," she paused before adding a last point, "and I will, personally, not be too happy if I think you are victimising the downtrodden; I'm a Dhasath, which I think you've already gathered." she smirked slightly at that, "We don't tend to like it when people pick on the weak. Reminds us too much of ourselves."

Chapter Three: Bad Moon Rising

Bridge of the Defiance, A few hours later Archelia, approaching the moon of Akaron
co-written by Dyelli Beybi and Arengin Union

I see a bad moon a-rising
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin'
I see bad times today

There had been a lot of human technology in the hold, it seemed. Most of it was primitive and useless, though they had also found music devices, which, with the assistance of Rabaech, they had managed to interface relatively easily with the ship's on-board systems. Thanica had suggested they put some on. She was worried about Krystyn and thought it might do him some good, but having heard some of what was on their device, she found she also quite liked it. It appealed to her Dhasath ears, even if the other aliens on the ship thought it sounding like someone strangling a hazmot.

Once, the Dhasath had, apparently, had a musical culture, though that had died, along with most of them, when the Ragon had invaded. Perhaps this was what they had sounded like? While the music was pleasing, Thanica couldn't understand why the bands of human musicians had such odd names. Why, for instance, did clear water need reviving? Had someone done something to the water beforehand? And what did that have to do with a letter of credence?

As they left hyperspace on the final approach to their destination, she had fallen into her usual slouch in her pilot's station, one boot propped against the edge of the console though she couldn't help but tap it along to the tune they had buzzing through the bridge. Something about a 'bad moon on the rise', which was nonsense but seemed sort-of appropriate given Akaron's reputation.

Carter, for his part, was like a child playing with a gameboy for the first time in their life, totally enamoured with the intricacy of the ship’s multiple systems and functions as Thanica would show him from time to time what did what and he made sure to take mental notes as if he were back in flying school. His experience behind a cockpit meant very little compared to this new world, at most it’d be like a teenager trying to fly a commercial plane using their experience playing video games, at least it felt like that to him. The lyrics echoed all through the ship, his music player now connected to the ship and playing music totally unknown to the residents of the ship but to him it was rather soothing, a welcoming embrace that reminded him he was still human and an Earthling.

Don't go 'round tonight
It's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise

As Thanica piloted the ship now exiting hyperspace Carter remained seated at the co-pilot seat beside the Dhasath, the human would tilt his head following the beat of the music and at times murmuring the lyrics with a wide smile as he admired the view of what was Pleasure Heaven right outside the surface of Akaron, the bright lights coming from the space station shined into the Defiance’s bridge window and Carter’s own eyes brightened with intensity as he was enchanted by such an unbelievable view of space he had never imagined.

“So this is Pleasure Heaven…” he asked with sarcasm, still murmuring the CCR song and trying to keep a level head as he broke from his trance with the view. “Let’s hope they raise the welcoming mat for us and not the blast us into the vacuum of space” he added while trying to get used to the Kiellar marine armor he was now wearing, the marks of the Command taken off and now with a dark blue color instead of the dark and orange it originally had. He gave a look at Thanica, and as the song continued he followed along with some of the lyrics. “I hope you got your things together I hope you are quite prepared to die Look's like we're in for nasty weather One eye is taken for an eye” He sang right in tune with the voices of CCR to a rather perplexed Thanica, though Carter found the song with such a welcoming grace, since it reminded him of home, he didn’t quite think of the lyrics which didn’t sound all too comforting. "That's a classic..." Carter said resting his head on his seat.

Thanica gave Carter an amused look, "I'm not quite prepared to die just yet." she commented dryly.

Carter chuckled as barely realized how the lyrics of the song were not the most positive and considering what Thanica and him were about to get into it was not the best for motivation to sing to the lyrics of it. “Neither am I…” He said with a now more serious tone as he looked through the consoles, trying to not touch anything despite temptations.

Thanica had changed again on the journey to the station, trading what she was wearing for an almost identical black tank top and cargo trousers. This pair, though, was noticeably more snugly fitted. To add to the look she had also pulled on a black jacket of some form of alien leather and let her hair down to cascade in dark waves across her shoulders. It was a slight adjustment to her look, designed to draw the attention of anyone interested in Dhasath females without making it obvious that was what she was doing and without making her look like anything other than the pirate she now was. If she was going to try to distract some alien pervert while they robbed him of his money she was going to do it properly. She was still being treated as a commodity, but this made a pleasant change from aliens wanting her as a light snack between meals.

"I wouldn't worry. We're just another unarmed trader as far as they are concerned."she continued, taking over the controls manually as she eased the vessel towards the station," Yes, it is obvious we are flying a stolen Kiellar Command vessel, but Command doesn't have jurisdiction out here and I'm sure they've seen worse. Mind you, if a Command warship did show up looking for us they'd probably hand us over without a second thought, particularly if there was a reward in it, which there would be. Pays to stay alert."

For a few moments she turned her attention to the communications system as they negotiated somewhere to dock. After a couple of minutes they were given permission to dock at 'Pylon D' and she switched the comms back off.

"Armour looks good." she commented to Carter as the ship slid towards the pylon, "Did you want to play bodyguard our heist?" she asked before reminding Carter, "If you do, keep the helmet on. Don't want them thinking they've got multiple Dhasath in the net, particularly since they don't!"

“Well thank you kindly,” Carter said with a smirk as he showed off his newly painted over armor, it was definitely an improvement over the white sweaty space tank top and the chest cuff rig. He then eyed Thanica from head to toes, she looked professional and prepared, like a true commander would, but her Dhasath features made her unlike any human commander Carter had ever served with, she wasn’t human after all but at times it was hard to remember.

He then heard what she asked, he began to think about what decision to make. Someone needed to stay with the ship but without any knowledge about piloting it he and Krystyn were useless for the meantime, and he was sure some people would remain in the ship to guard it. He looked at the armor’s helmet, a bright orange tint on the visor.

Putting on the newly painted helmet, it now covered his face, the human Captain looked over at Thanica and gave an answer, “You’ve got your muscle Commander.”

He then gave a thumbs up as he sat back into the co pilot seat, it was likely the gesture left Thanica a bit perplexed. Carter for his part was both excited but also nervous, he didn't know what he was about to get into but he had to eventually face it, best to do it now.

Thanica looked slightly mystified, self-consciously copying the 'thumbs up' gesture... Then laughed, shaking her head in confusion. "When we dock the others can all filter out into the population, drink, gamble, whatever they want to do." she said, getting straight back to outlining the plan again as she guided the ship to the allocated docking pylon. She didn't sound nervous, but her repetition of details gave it away, "We'll stay on the ship so that we aren't seen with the rest of them when we disembark. If they're really suspicious and study the security footage, I'm sure our hosts can figure out the connection but I'm gambling they won't go to the effort."

There was a dull clunking sound that echoed through the walls of the ship as they made contact with the pylon. It was followed by a whooshing sound as an the gangway to the station was flooded with breathable atmosphere, though only those lurking in the cargo bay, near the airlock, would hear that one.

She reached for the intercom unit, speaking across the ship to everyone onboard, "We have now arrived at 'Pleasure Haven', head out, relax, have fun but not so much that you forget your role in the game to come. If you catch a disease... Don't tell me! Report to the Medbay."

She clicked the system off again, turning to Carter, "So... Fancy a drink?" she suggested.

Keeping silent for a bit, still taking in the new world, Carter then turned to Thanica, "Sure, I could use one." And with that he rose from his seat, standing tall he waited for her.

"You think they'd have whiskey here, some Black Daniel would surely be nice right about now," he jokingly remarked, he again failed to realize Thanica nor anyone except for Krystyn understood what he was yarping about.

There was a long pause from Thanica, who looked like she was desperately trying to figure out what 'Black Daniel' was... before eventually (correctly) concluding it was a human thing, "Will Raz'lak do?" she suggested instead. Raz'lak and water seemed to e the only two options on the Defiance.

Sho'chavuk

While Thanica spoke, Sho began to fidget quite a bit and he hoped she didn't notice. A bit flustered at this point he begins to grind his teeth slightly, doing his best to focus on listening to her words.

She reminded Sho that they weren't exactly the law-abiding of individuals, to which he nodded, and indicated that she was totally fine with him pilfering from people, provided it wasn't from the crew and that it wasn't something that they needed. She also said not to do anything that would jeopardize their operations. To show he understood, he nodded and was about to speak his agreement, but Thanica added to what she'd just said, essentially giving him a warning about attempting to attack her for whatever reason. It seems she had noticed his restless shuffling.

Sho nodded again, "Yes, yes. Captain, thank you very much." And quickly made his way out of the bridge. Though before stepping out, he paused, having picked up a scent, and a very familiar one at that. But, gah, he needed to be away from the Dhasath as soon as possible. Her scent tickled his nose and caused him to salivate slightly, and so he waddled back down into the lower decks.

He was glad that he was allowed his spoils, and that he'd managed to walk away from the Dhasath's presence without a bit of her between his teeth. It was then that Sho'chavuk realised how hungry he was, and needed to eat something soon. Unfortunately, the existence of a mess hall didn't occur to him, and he continued to wander the halls, snout in the air as he contemplated the plethora of scents. There were a great many of them. But he was too frustrated to differentiate them all from one another at that moment. He continued to walk, rubbing his stomach, looking troubled.

In those few moments of peace, he thought to himself about what Thanica had told him and repeated them so he wouldn't forget. The last thing she said though, he found a bit difficult to comply to. It caused him to stop in the middle of the hall, slap his paws against his cheeks and pull down. He had seen a few Dhasath before and had even tasted one, but he'd forgotten what it was like to be around them. It had been a while since he had seen one.

"That scent.." he muttered, shaking his head. "Its power over me is undeniable! A-ah." he scratched his head furiously, but not enough to hurt. "I must collect myself. Yes, yes. I have decided to work with these people, and thus I must acclimate myself to their limitations!"

Having regained some composure and security, Sho proceeded down the hall, and eventually finding an uncovered vent, there he slept for a little while.

Pleasure Haven
In Orbit over Akaron, the Moon of Archelia
Residence of Grandmaster Azar Konkara

A large, dimly lit room was fraught with silence, the echoes of the artificial winds generated by the station’s ventilation system drowning out the only other sound present; the probably annoying snoring of a certain crime lord, who was superseded by his own reputation, and his name was known with little fondness across the Neutral Zone. This was the Grandmaster of Pleasure Haven, an exiled Jokari by the name of Azar Konkara, whose abberant and immoral behaviour as the captain of a Tidehunter class frigate a century ago prompted the Jokarun of the Undying Light to send him away, throwing him out like a piece of rubbish. He was dully surrounded by his harem of 8 sleeping maidens, who all snored out loud like sleeping pigs due to exhaustion.

At this moment, the doors to the room swung open, the fine Jokari wooden handiwork slamming into the cold mahogany walls like hammers as an Archelian came walking out towards the sleepy Jokari crime lord, who fortunately was clothed despite his reputation as a hedonistic, capricious, and potentially psychologically imbalanced prick.

The Archelian rushed towards his master, the train of his leather coat flowing across the wind as the Archelian’s mask hid any hint of what his face would’ve looked like upon seeing his employer in such a state. The aquatic alien’s face grimaced inside his mask before he took it off to greet Azar.

“Grandmaster Konkara, a ship has docked. This one seems to be a stolen Kiellar Command ship.”, the Archelian said as the Jokari groggily rose from his slumber, who barely comprehended what his employee just told him.

“Why do you waste my time with such trivial matters, Alsaka?”, the Jokari said with a hint of frustration, along with a drop of a little too much premium Raz’lak. “Ships come and go to this place...”

“But... its a Kiel ship. Wouldn’t the Command be coming to retrieve their missing ship? Especially since it is a prison ship?”

“I don’t care at all, Alsaka.”, the Grandmaster said as he slumped on his chair, shooing away one of the maidens with his left foot before chugging down another bottle of premium Raz’lak. “This place is for... errr, business... and eh, we can always hand whoever was in that prison ship if... uhh... an actual Command warship comes here. Well, if they fail to take into account the 600 strong Archelia Defense Fleet... then... your babbling about this stolen prison ship is of little concern. Get out of my sight before I drown you in bodies.”

“Ugh... yes, Grandmaster.”, Alsaka said as he bowed and hurriedly left. The Archelian was concerned, sure, but Azar has been running this station for seven decades. What could possibly go wrong?

Image
Airlock

Should the Dasath Commander and her entourage of dangerous step into the airlock, they would be greeted by none other than an Archelian guarded by two Jokari warbots. The Archelian had the signature black mask of their race on, the inky darkness of the mask often reforming into different colors depending on the emotions and mood of the wearer. Her coat looked like what seemed to be at first glance to be an innocent looking furcoat, but should one ask her where it was bought, the answer would be, “I brought this from Corel Van Solen’s clothing line. Looks good, isn’t it?” However, should the Jokari warbots be asked, they would answer very differently, “Material was formed from the reareanged hair follicles of a Fedori.” Should one know what a Fedori was, these are a sentient race much like humans.

The Archelian and her guards waited for the passengers of the Defiance to disembark, while several other ships emptied their contents into the dockyards: while most of these were various Archelian ship types, some were stolen Kiellar or Ragon ships, or were built by one of the many small states of the NZ. An Archelian corvette emptied much of its crew, alongside some very well dressed women with flowing robes and eye catching corsets. They would run off deeper into the station, while the other ships began dropping down whatever they brought.

As the Jokari and the Sarufi stepped out, Yare would point at one of the warbots. “Where is the blade that it is supposed to have?”, the Sarufi asked as it looked like some of the warbots had inconsistent manufacturing.

“Azar was good at missing things, if anything.”, Kaleso said as they walked into the nearest section: the casino. There, the rich placed high stakes, and became richer still as the promises of instant money gripped into their souls. There were many Archelians, and of other races many more still. Unlike the chaotic Underworld on Akaron, Pleasure Haven had some sort of “civilization” in it, even if it involved acts of debauchery and cavortation. It is for this reason that Azar Konkara became so wealthy and powerful.

Little did they know that one ship was about to change the way the station is run.

Olorisa was, to put it simply, fascinated by the monstrous structure ahead of them. This looked every bit like something out of her original crew's science fiction movies, except this wasn't fiction. The asteroid base with its pagoda-like outbuildings triggered every bit of the innocent wonder her designers had given her. She had no idea that it might be a hive of villainy. Still, part of her was always on alert for danger, even when she didn't expect it; her sole purpose in 'life' was supposed to be to protect her crew, and while she had much greater freedom of thought now she still took this responsibility very seriously.

She enjoyed the music playing through the ship's computer, though to her it was more about the tune and its mathematical patterns than the emotional meaning of the lyrics. Still, back on the Destiny she had used some of these songs to try to understand human analogies more, with varying degrees of success.

Olorisa immersed herself in the approach and docking process. From what she had overheard in her time on the ship Thanica was the only one of her crew who knew how to fly the Defiance, and if anything happened to her Olorisa wanted to be able to help the others stay safe. The whole procedure was surprisingly intuitive for her; this was because she had originally been meant to pilot the Destiny all by herself, but she didn't know anything about that.

The armed ships that were docked at and going to and from the base concerned her; she had no knowledge of spaceborne weaponry - humans had never really tried that, save for the time the Soviets gave their cosmonauts sidearms - but these certainly looked like tools for destruction. Most of the ships out of dock seemed to be in logical positions for defending the station, however, and these patterns eased her concerns slightly. Nevertheless, she spoke out before Thanica and Carter could disembark.

"Query. Would it be practical to arm the Defiance at some point in the foreseeable future, to better defend its crew? I have very little knowledge of weaponry, but the tools on these ships seem capable of focusing large amounts of energy at a target."

Silence for a few moments as she tried to think of a more natural way to express her thoughts.

"I believe a less technical term is... 'laser beam'? My original crew watched many science fiction films..."

There was a bit of static, sort of like a technological sigh. The AI seemed very frustrated about her poor speaking skills, though whether anyone could tell that was hard to say.

Thanica was deliberately keeping a low profile, so the first person the Archelian got to meet was Vrondich. He was wearing a well cut, bright green, glossy jacket and trousers with a white open-collared underneath. The clothing was recognisable to a human, even if the cut and colour were alien. There was a pistol-blaster at his hip that he made no effort to hide, "Ahh hello." he greeting the welcoming committee with a gracious smile, "I am here to enjoy the many services of your establishment. Perhaps you can give me directions?"

He acted as if everything was perfectly normal about the ship and its occupants, even though it was quite obviously stolen. The reaction to him would probably have a lot to do with how many pirates and smugglers visited Pleasure Haven.

"Mmmhm?" Thanica looked surprised by the suggestion, then thoughtful, before finally responding "Theoretically no, but we'd need to overhaul some other systems to make them work. Personally I'd favour upgrading the shield and sublight drives, possibly the Skrim drive cooling system to give us a better jump range."

She considered the question a bit more before adding, "I'm imagining, once we're operational again, that the goal for most people will be to get home. For some of us though, this vessel is likely to become home for a while. We may need to take a vote on what to do with the old ship."

Pleasure Haven
Hallways of Excess

The Archelian slightly bowed as Vrondich approached her in the airlock, while the two warbots simply stared at the Kiel engineer as if he was the most suspicious thing in the universe. When she was asked for directions, the Archelian nodded and fluttered her Corel-made fur coat in the winds generated by the station’s artificial ventilation system. “It would be an honor, my good Kiellari sir.”, she said as she motioned for Vrondich to follow her. She would lead him to a white clean table, behind of which stood an insectoid alien of unknown name, at least for most. Besides the ten feet tall and twenty armed insectoid creature was a huge set of drawers, which extended all the way up to the ceiling, with twenty sets that lay horizontally and fifty sets in total towards the ceiling. It was obvious why he had this job.

“Lend this man a map to the station’s service areas, please.”, the Archelian said as she placed her gloved hand on the table. The employee behind the table would stand up, towering over everyone else as he muttered something under his breath. He opened one of the drawers with his uppermost right arm, and with the left equivalent, drew out a small holotablet, which projected all of the station’s service areas up to the fiftieth floor.

“The 51st to the 60th floor is the personal residence of the Grandmaster Azar Konkara, and only VIP members of the Pleasure Haven Club plus anyone he considers worthy to be in... his oh-so-glorious presence are allowed entrance. However, he does come down to the casino area to gamble with wealthy traders and, at a few occasions, other... lords of this realm.”, she said with apprehension. “Kralmon-Lokar just visited a while ago. Make sure none of you end up in his plate.”, she said as her mask lit up with a bright indigo, indicating sarcasm and poking fun. “Of course, as long as one has Konkara’s attention and isn’t very tasty, they are safe from the Flesh Master’s predatory gaze. Now, I have some business to attend to. Enjoy your stay, and don’t forget to pay on the automated teller machines whenever you do something.”, she went on as she walked away with her escort.

If one were to look up the windows that formed the clear hallways of the path towards Pleasure Haven’s casino, one would see the large fleet of Archelian warships amassed above it. One would’ve initially thought that this was an invasion force being prepared for war, but would be proved wrong some pirate or two brought several of these mighty vessels, paying the Archelians handsomely in credits as the space and water faring aliens profiteered greatly from the wars of the Neutral Zone between independent states, cartels, and syndicates. It was quite easy to see that the Archelians were war profiteers, gaining huge amounts of credit by supplying the essential needs of thieves, murderers, conquerers, and the like while ensuring that none of their technology is compromised due to the biometrics instilled in every vessel.

Looking up, the Sarufi sighed. “I remembered that some of the ships of the Sunblot Alliance came from this place. Never imagined that the sales were this huge, though. I think they sell several dozens a day or so at this scale.”

“Yes, but they only give away the cheap stuff.”, Kaleso answered as he gazed towards an Archelian cruiser. “My sister told me that the best Archelian warships are stored inside the Archelian Drive Yards in case of enemy attack.”

“And then?”

“None could stand up to their wrath. That was all I was told.”

“Ehe... let us just go in and wait for the others, shall we? We can first begin by laying some bets here...”

“Bets, you have.”

Captain Nathan Taylor Carter
Bridge, the Defiance.

As both Thanica and Carter began to exit the bridge area, all the while some of the crew were being greeted outside into the docking zone, Olorisa made a comment through the intercom, her voice muffling the music.

“Huhhh” Carter uttered to himself as he gave a curious look at Thanica, he himself had not given thought if the ship itself had any weapon systems, armament, or anything resembling a counter defense protocol. It was a prisoner ship so of course it would have an armory, but offensive capabilities were doubtful, even for him who was not at all familiar with Kiellar policy in the matter.

But Thanica wasted no time in answering to the matter.

“I agree, we ought to repair and instal systems to the ship in order of priority” Carter added to Thanica’s answer, “I think me, Krystyn and Olorisa don’t have anywhere to really go so this ship might just become our safe haven for the meantime,” Carter rubbed his chin for a bit and then addressed Olorisa directly “we’ll see what we can do about any defense systems Olorisa, in the meantime try to run diagnostics and keep the ship in one piece alright?”

Carter then turned back to Thanica, “You’d think we have something a bit more flavory than your Razlaka drink?” he chuckled, trying to not be insulting but in all honesty the drink from before had left a bitter taste in his mouth. Thanica shared the chuckle as she then handed him one of the master key tags to the ship, it would open pretty much anything including the former Captain’s quarters, he wouldn’t have much need for whatever was in there anyways. Thanica then headed to the mess hall, she would wait for him there while Carter headed to “inspect” the Captain’s quarters.

At that moment another song began to play, with a very funky disco sound very familiar to Carter but perhaps not at all for the others in the ship, Staying Alive by the Bee Gees. It made him smile yet again.

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around
Since I was born
"I do as I please"
-King Abraham Markev final words before jumping into a cage to fight a lion.
