Character Description
Image

Name: TARE-903-05
Species: Gnosara
Gender: N/A
Age: Approx. >1,243,000
Appearance:
Standing at 6’, around the height of an average Sahroni, the TARE series are of a humanoid design with several anachronistic features. Lacking a distinct face, the series instead has a flat mask protecting the integral optical components, while a larger helmet allows for the housing of a sensor array. The mask itself includes heavy cording which resembles early respirator units, though these instead house cabling for connections towards the sensor array and optics. For the most part, non conductive fabrics cover the outside of the unit as a protection against certain forms of electrical weaponry as well as to adhere to some Sahroni cultural normalities, as at the period of TARE’s construction the practices of making such figures seem more organic was common. This includes cloaks, a robe, as well as thick gloves which house pressure and energy sensors. Underneath this arrangement is a heavy, armored chassis housing various components, among them a cold fission reactor. A heavy, gray backpack is worn on the back which includes such things as a gravitational array, shielding array, and heatsinks for that equipment as well as the power coupling for the disruption carbine TARE wields. Due to model construction, a constant ticking can be heard.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills:
    Personal Combat
As a 903 Series, TARE is exceptionally capable of engagement with his disruption carbine up to maximum range, engagement with close quarters weaponry, and hand-to-hand combat, though for obvious reasons the latter are preferred. An exceptional reaction time due to the utilization of a neural system of information relay is coupled with optical, thermal, gravitational, and motion-based sensors to create a lethal marksman.
Weaknesses:
    Programming Corruption
Due to a remarkable age and lack of repair or maintenance, TARE’s systems have become understandably degraded. This comes in the form of, at times, vocal stuttering in the modulator, the prefacing of any sentence with a word indicative of the sort of statement being made such as it being a query, statement, or fact, as well as intermittent failure in control targeting.
    A Metal Man
Due to his construction, TARE is susceptible to most modern EMP weaponry as it is able to brute-force through the non conductive clothing. In addition to this, due to programming quirks TARE is incapable of most abstract forms of thought with such terms of speech as metaphor going over his head. This is not crippling, but does hamper social conversation if TARE was ever incentivized to do such a thing. He’s also not interested in social conversation.

Background
Role on Ship: UNK
Crimes Committed:
14 Counts Murder in the First Degree
2 Count Destruction of Government Property
    1 Count Resisting Arrest
Personality:
Quiet, observatory, and lacking the capacity for such a thing as fear or frantic emotion, TARE lacks the vast array of social and emotional graces and keeps such a fact hidden under a sheer lack of conversation. Designed to be a bodyguard he is inherently protective of others designated as a controller while lacking any trace of mercy for those who threaten the controller or TARE himself. Analytical, he takes preference to the cold, hard facts of combat to the nebulous ideals of diplomacy or conversation and can be considered brutal in the application of force against those who might be a threat. However, TARE is more than capable of allowing that controller to attempt diplomacy, though would grudgingly remind that same controller of precisely how certain combat would be.
Backstory:
Developed far in advance to the Sahroni’s war of survival, the 903 Series of Artificial Intelligences were created as a cadre of bodyguard units for the upper class of that species. While warfare was largely halted as a result of the Sahroni being a united species, conflicts such as simple murder, mugging, and potential civil war was not an unknown possibility and as such had to be guarded against. As the upper class, these individuals ensured they were guarded by the finest of technologies, from personal shielding arrays to distortion carbines, all powered by a miniaturized Cold Fusion Plant. Known universally as simply ‘TARE’, this specific unit would be purchased by one Kor'O Ksi'm'yen Jila'len, a Sahroni of some repute as one intensely interested in exploration. The reasons for such interest were part mercantile, part curiosity, and part political; the creation of a political entity outside of usual Sahroni borders, lead by Kor’O Jila'len, would be a massive boon to their reputation and powerbase.

As a result of this, after being owned for thirteen years by that individual, TARE would be one of the many within the cadre of the Kor'O upon their personal cruiser, the Opportunity’s Ark. They departed space and, in the first voyage, that cruiser would be completely destroyed by a heavy raiding party of unidentified ships. As the ship was completely lost, venting atmosphere killing most occupants, the ruined hulk of the vessel fell into the gravity well of a nearby planetoid. Those survivors, including Kor’O Jila'len, retreated to the safe room and activated the TARE units aboard as foreign boarding parties penetrated the vessel’s outer hull and began to perform a purging action against the Sahroni alive and isolated. Directed to eliminate the boarders, TARE units performed and finished that action in eleven standard minutes. This effort would be for naught however as the raiders opened fire on the hulk, defense systems proving to be slow in overcoming the enemy shields. A hull breach would occur in the safe room and immediate emergency protocols were undertaken. Only three of the survivors consciousnesses would be saved by TARE units, one of these being the Kor’O by TARE-903-05. The raiders, soon thereafter, would be driven off and with the vessel’s communications array destroyed in the fight the units entered into a state of power-saving mode, awaiting a rescue that never came.

In 2026, an unknown vessel identifying themselves as the Kiellar Command boarded the Opportunity’s Ark and, as before, anti-boarding efforts were undertaken. The three surviving TARE units engaged the enemy with disruption weaponry, overcoming smaller parties before the nearby cruiser, coupled to the hulk with a flexible umbilical, began to provide supporting fire and additional reinforcements. The other two TARE units destroyed by heavy kill-teams, 05 counter-boarded the cruiser, depressurizing an unoccupied aft recreation deck in the process before taking control of a nearby terminal. Discerning the location of the Armory on the vessel, as well as the location of the Bridge, the TARE unit began to make all haste to the first location. En route, however, he was disabled by specialist fireteams and has since then been aboard the Defiance in a depowered state.

Looks grand, he's accepted. Do you mind waking him up when we wrap the scene? It's hopefully, pending the co-write I'm trying to get done, pretty much at it's conclusion.

Character Description

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: As a combat engineer, Vel’s main strength is his ingenuity and expertise with technical systems, both in and out of combat. Beyond that, he has exceptional drone control and from being an experienced soldier in the late Dhasath military, boasts a wide training resume, plenty of weapon handling time as well as undergoing rigorous physical conditioning.

Weaknesses: While relatively strong for his own kind and recently practiced in the art of back alley brawls, Vel is far from a master at hand to hand fighting. Lacking the dexterity and speed to keep up with most trained opponents and not even close to matching a Ragon’s strength, he can easily find himself outmatched in tight situations.

    Equipment:
-Ol' reliable workbench: Exactly as it sounds. A mostly portable work station Vel uses between jobs to replenish and repair his equipment.
-Modified Rail Rifle TF342: A general, all purpose light Dhasath military rifle designed for close to medium range engagements. While outdated, it's heavy modifications allow it to remain a contender to its more modern conterparts and while far less effective against shields, its rounds can wreck havoc against medium to light targets.
    -Explosive charges
    -3 drone slots

    Drones:
All drones made fit to the same compartment design for storage and use (rouhgly palm sized spheres)
-Spyder drone: Carrying a small kinetic weapon, limited blast plating and high powered legs. The spyder drone's main strentgh is in its manoueverbility and size. Designed for recon and infiltration, the drone is made to sneak and cut its way through obstructions to enter and disrupt hostile facilities.
-Shield drone: Flying support drone capable of generating limited shielding to its surroundings. Although suseptible to overloading when under constant or heavy attack, it can be reconfigured to provide extra protection over smaller areas.
-Disrupter drone: Fast moving flyer with short ranged anti-shield and electronics pulse weapons.

Background:
[list]Role on Ship: N/A
Crimes Committed: kidnapping/murder/industrial espionage/destruction of property/smuggling/illegal arms dealership/mining without a permit/sabotage
Personality: While witty and sharp tongued, Vel is a blunt, self-centred mercenary dedicated to keeping himself alive as the galaxy continues to burn around him. Despite his best efforts however, some remnants of a moral compass and a lingering desire to protect his kind push him to help those he can from time to time.
Backstory: The Dhasath League’s fall was not a thing of grace or strategy, after being pushed to the brink and learning surrender wasn’t an option, the League shattered under the Ragnor’s might. People fled for their lives as their worlds practically crumbled around them under the alien war machine. Few managed to escape and even fewer went on to survive the harsh galaxy they were ejected into. Throughout it all, the leaderless, exhausted and ultimately blind military continued to fight. Winning was never an option for them, instead they slammed what little they had into the hostile warships and landing parties in a relentless bid to buy their fleeing people time. Vel was among the last of these soldiers.

A decorated sergeant and veteran of the Kiellar War, Vel was a frontline fighter and loyal patriot to the Dhasath League’s military. Trained as an combat engineer, he earned several commendations against the Kiellar through performing high risk repairs and numerous successful ground-based operations. When the Ragnor threat came to bear, Vel continued to fight with his unit long after their central command fell.

In a matter of days after the initial assault wave, the war became a mix of desperate stands followed by even more desperate retreats. The few remaining, united military ships would continually jump into an evacuating world and cover its fleeing people as best it could as its soldiers landed and tried to delay the monstrous hunting parties below. By the time the world was evacuated or wiped clear, whoever was left on the ground retreated to their transports and withdrew to jump away and repeat the whole process again with fewer and fewer ships by their side each time.

Through a combination of determination, grit and expertise, Vel continued to survive and fight across the falling planets. On his fleet’s ninth and ultimately final stand however, they came up against the main Ragnor invasion force and were promptly knocked asunder both on the ground and in the sky. Facing complete destruction with no chance of victory, the last admiral gave the command to disperse and scatter. After its many stands and battles, the final Dhasath fleet was no more.

Being a transport ship, Vel’s vessel was seen as a prize rather than a threat and spared from the Ragnor’s fleet main weapons. Instead, several smaller ships chased it as it fled and picked at its systems in an attempt to cripple it. The ship would’ve been left dead in the water if not for the timely intervention of its few remaining stubborn and ultimately short-lived escorts moving in to buy time for its escape. Rudderless, alone and low on supplies, the onboard soldiers entered cryo-sleep for the journey ahead as they the few that chose to stay awake tried to find some remnants of home to return to.

Years later, Vel awoke to find that after being long dormant and adrift in space, the ship had been discovered in the neutral zone and was being scrapped as its crew was taken into slavery by their ‘rescuers’. Whether unaware of its crew’s occupation or just by considering any Dhasath resistance to be minimal at best, the slavers found themselves outmatched as the war hardened veterans resisted and eventually overpowered them with little regard for their own losses along the way.

This battle went on to set a pattern for the remaining Dhasath soldiers. Desperate raids and battles for long gone ideals only to find limited success at ever higher costs. By the end of the year, barely a handful remained. Finally, at his limit for death defying battle and risking his life for strangers he never knew, Vel picked up his things and left.

That was 3 years ago. Since then, Vel has jumped from job to job and station to station within the neutral zone, abandoning his long dying morals in favour of earning the credits he needed to survive and continue moving. Mercenary work, bounty-hunting, arms dealing, repairs and so on, any job that could pay well was one that he was willing to take. But despite it all, some sliver of duty remained within him and pushed him to help the few Dhasath he came across.

Hey again guys! After finally getting things all sorted I thought I'd try re-apping this character. Let me know what you think and whether I should make a few more tweaks and changes

He is accepted. For the purpose of getting him into the post. Want to write that he's taken on a contract with the Gollar Confederacy? He can then arrive on the 'unknown alien vessel' that is about to be announced in the next post.

Rather new in sci-fi RPs, so if there is no problem in my app, do notify me. :)

Character Description
Name: Tso Drothan ('Lord of Death' in Yujei language)
    Species: Yujei
    Gender: Male
    Age: 35
    Appearance:

Tso Drothan is a Yujei (species explained in below application). Being chosen as a Die-Jang-Di ('High Night Priest'), he was encased in a holy, ceremonial mechanical suit, which he is unable to take off. A full-body pectoral armor was placed on top of a skin-tight leather body suit. Aside from offering some limited protection, the suit does not offer much benefit to its user.

    Suit

    Image

    Suitless:

    Image

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: (Is there anything you are significantly better at than most other people?)

Mechanical Suit - The suit offers a basic protection to Tso Drothan. While energy weapons can cause severe damage on the body, physical attacks and attack with melee weapons cause little damage.
Born Killer - He shows no remorse whatsoever in killing others. He craves causing death.
Brilliant Tactician/Strategist - His past as a military commander means he has experience in commanding armies. Trouble is, he has severe amnesia and so he cannot use his talents aside from few, brief moments when he is able to remember some battle from his past.

Weaknesses: (Is there anything your character is really rubbish at? Not essential you put anything in, but can be fun)

Mechanical Suit - While the Yujei are a physically strong species, the suit hampers the ability of its user with regards to physical force. The user instead has to rely on weapons, both melee and energy, to attack.
Severe Headaches - Tso Drothan suffers from severe headaches from time to time, which can even render him unconscious.
Severe Amnesia - He has little recollection of his life on Dai-Chan-Le (home world of Yujei).

Background:
    Role on Ship: Prisoner
Crimes Committed: Tens of Murders - Mass murder, War crimes
    Personality:

Silent, he prefers solitude. He is an avid reader, mainly of historical, military and mathematical texts. He craves death and destruction but is not one to throw himself in combat; he prefers either to cause mass death through careful planning or to take out one opponent at a time by lurking in the shadows and attacking at the right time. He has little interest in others, with the exception of when he can use them as pawns in his schemes.

    Backstory:

Dai-Chan-Le was a world embroiled in turmoil. A civil war raged on between the 'High Priests' and the 'Revolutionary Front'. Not much is known about the early life of Tso Drothan or what his real name was. At the age of twenty-five, he became a Die-Jang-Di ('High Night Priest') and was handed command over the '51st Holy Army'. He launched a brilliant but brutal invasion of the territory held by the Revolutionary Front. His army slaughtered hundreds of thousands of civilians and committed countless acts of war crimes.

His campaign on Gua-Chi-Long, in which fifty-thousand of his men were able to crush four enemy armies totaling two hundred thousand Yujeis, sealed his fame as the greatest commander in recent Yujei history. It was not to last. He had overstretched his logistics by driving deeper and deeper into enemy territory, making his army vulnerable to a counterattack. The Battle of Arkensare was a disaster of epic proportions. Tso Drothan was barely able to escape and return back to friendly territory.

The Revolutionary Front launched an all out invasion of the High-Priests led territory and with a lightning campaign ended the war in a complete victory. Wanted by the new regime, Tso Drothan escaped to the Kiellar Command. A Yujei without purpose, he became a killer for hire. One of his victims was the daughter of an important Kiellar official. It wasn't long before Tso Drothan was arrested.

Species Description
    Name: Yujei
    Singular: Yujei
    Plural: Yujeis
    Adjective: Yujei
    Appearance:

There is little variation when it come to the Yujeis, with the exception of color. Some are white, some black, some red and some yellow.

    Image

    Biology:

Most Yuejis tend to be stronger physically compared to other humanoids and their hands have claws, which can be deathly if used well. They are also able to see in the dark far better than most humanoids, their eyes adapting to the darkness. Aside of that, the Yuejis tend to be pretty normal as far as humanoids go.

Background:
    Homeworld:

Dai-Chan-Le is a terran world. Large parts of it are covered by deep oceans while the land is mostly covered with bamboo forests and mountains containing mines full of valuable resources. The Yujeis built their cities close to the mountains, with the resources uncovered from various mines they constructed. Dai-Chan-Le is in the neutral zone but close to Kiellar space, maintaining some informal ties with the later.

    History:

The first written records of Yujei history appeared four thousand years ago. The Yujei Sage Kai-Cho-Lang unified the four tribes of Dre-Sa-Ile and ordered his achievements to be carved on stone plates. More than one thousand years passed before the entire Dai-Chan-Le was unified by the Dre-Sa-Ile. The empire had become too vast and the Emperors had to rely on the 'High Priests', a religious caste belonging to the faith of 'Droth-Il-Kame' (Death and Night), worshiping those two entities. The Priests acted as regional governors, running their feuds as virtually independent kings. One thousand-five hundred years ago, the Priests finally deposed the Emperor. From now on, a committee of High Priests would govern the Empire.

Six hundred years ago, space travel was invented, allowing the Yujeis to explore neighboring planets and to initiate trade with them. The inflow of wealth led to the creation of a mercantile, upper middle class that resented its exclusion from political power. The first civil war began two hundred years ago, with the 21st Jasder (month corresponding to August) revolution overthrowing the Priest of Gua-Vong (one of the Imperial Governorships) and forming a parliamentary government. The terrified High Priests put aside any differences they may have had and squashed the rebellion. Three more revolutions followed in the next century and all of them failed.

Twenty years ago, the Revolutionary Front (a secret society counting many thousands of members) launched a fourth revolution. It managed to establish its authority over large segments of Dai-Chan-Le. The war raged on for years until the Revolutionary Front overthrew the High Priests, unifying Dai-Chan-Le as a Republic. Some High Priests and their sympathizers fled the planet, Tso Drothan among them.

Character Description
    Name: Dr. Yevgeny Levenkov
    Species: Human
    Gender: Male
    Age: 44
    Appearance:
    Image

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: Good Doctor. Great bedside manner.
Weaknesses: Can't cook to save his life. Tends to overly blame himself if he loses a patient.

Background:
    Role on Ship: second doctor
Crimes Committed: Entering Military No-Go Zone
Personality: When he isn't preoccupied with his duties, he's a jokester, but not to the point of obnoxiousness nor maliciousness. Compassionate almost to a fault.
    Backstory:

Yevgeny was born in Volgograd in the Soviet Union in 1982. By all measures, he had a normal childhood, until the fall of the Soviet Union. By age 13, both of his parents were dead, and he was an orphan living on the streets. He linked up with a group (some would say gang) of other kids in a similar situation. He ended up becoming the group caretaker. Patching up others' wounds from street fights, tending to his sick friends, and things like that.

Eventually, him and his buddies were caught, and it was here that his aptitude as a caregiver was noticed. At age 16, a police officer and his wife adopted Yevgeny and helped prepare him to enter medical school. At 18, he passed the entrance exam and was accepted into Volgograd State Medical University. In 2006, he began his residency. By 2014 he was a respected doctor. However, he was becoming rather dissatisfied with his work, and respecialized in aerospace medicine, and then applying for acceptance into the cosmonaut program. By 2020, he succeeded, and made his first flight in 2022, before being chosen as the Russian member of the Destiny mission.

After the capture of the Destiny, Yev was injected with translator microbes and put in cryo. Shortly after the pods were dropped off at Afewag station, and the Defiance left on its latest mission, Yev's pod unthawed, and he was greeted by the Gollar. After an awkward exchange, his medical skills and knowledge of the human crew on the Defiance was deemed a valuable asset for the backup mission that was being planned in case it was necessary, and he was given a crash course in treating the more common species found in the Neutral Zone, and attached to the backup mission as a liason. He was given the option of sticking with his fellow humans on the Defiance, which he accepted.

Character Description

Strengths and Weaknesses

Both apps look perfect.

If you want to bring the character in now it would be a good time. If you do, assume you woke up defrosted by the alien alliance known as the 'Gollar Confederacy', (who your character has never heard of before). You will have been sent to join the Defiance crew, who are currently trying to repair their ship with Gollar help, on an icy moon. You've been sent to them on the general principal that you were in their cargo hold so are their problem.

Looks good to me. Feel free to add him into the thread now. We're working on the assumption that the Gollar are delivering anyone who woke up from Cryo.

Character Description
    Name: Karesan Morkova Stralbane
    Species: Jokari
    Gender: Male eunuch
    Age: 39
    Appearance:
    Image

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: An expert at wielding twin plasma pistols and a Kravsagar blade.
Weaknesses: Highly impulsive when faced with what he hates. He is too quick to draw the sword, and slow to sheath it.

Unknown to most, Karesan was also deemed the weakest of the Purified, being the only one that lacked any offensive or defensive psychic ability that the others gained. He may also be a skilled fighter, but he is still mortal and a well placed blaster bolt is enough to bring him down just like any other man. Being partially cybernetic, he is also vulnerable to EMP bolts.

Background:
Role on Ship: Atp this stage that is (former) prisoner
    Crimes Committed: Trespassing Command space.
Personality: Karesan Morkova is proud, unrelenting, and perhaps vicious at first glance, as he wields his sword with not a single drop of mercy or hesitation. However, beneath this facade of cold blood is a heart that fears death and failure all the same. He does not hesitate to kill, but such hesitation is also absent should he decide to give mercy. Should one gain his trust, one would see that this blood stained soldier is but a child, scared and frightened of the galaxy's terror.
Backstory: Karesan Morkova Stralbane was only named "Jalan" when he was born in captivity. He was raised alongside millions of other Defiled to be livestock on the mineral rich planet of Madnilia, where the former glorious cities of the Jokarun have been turned into massive farming settlements by the Ragon conquerers.

At ten years of age, when he was to be culled as part of the latest stock of food by Ragon settlers, Rebel forces attacked the facility where he and several hundred others were being held in cages that hung on the ceilings like chandeliers of death. The Rebellion were able to get 120 out of the 1,300 Jokari Defiled within that facility while taking light casualties due to the surprising nature of their attack.

Within a year, Jalan would grow to have a bind with his liberator, Kirasa Stralbane. Over time, they were friends, and then went beyond that. Despite the fact that he was a genetically mutilated Defiled, Kirasa was still perfectly willing to be his… bride. After their marriage, Jalan changed his name to Karesan Stralbane after his wife's deceased brother.

After five years of fighting as part of the Rebellion, he was given a chance to be restored to an Untainted… or whatever semblance of it was possible. He and eleven others were subjected to the psychic and cybernetic rituals of Purification, eventually turning him into one of the first of the Purified; Jokari Defiled that were restored to a semblance of being an Untainted. Soon, a hundred Purified were serving as officers and generals for the Rebellion. However, he alone failed to be brought to the full potential of a Purified, never regaining the wings or the psychic powers of his brethren. For this, he was deemed the weaker of them, though the other Purified made it clear that he was still their brother in arms.

From then, he and his fellow Purified were deemed to be aces in the hole of the Rebellion. Whether they were piloting mighty robotic walkers or fighting on the ground, they were devastatingly effective in their war for liberation in conjunction with the rest of their forces, no matter how seemingly futile this fight has become after nearly two centuried. However, their victories would be made hollow ten years after their purification. Karesan and his fellow Purified, Trajan, were nearly surrounded in a mission and managed to escape onboard the Heritage Class Cruiser Vengeance, but its Skyrim Drive was damaged and the Vengeance was sent straight unto the fringes of Command territory. As soon as they came out of hyperspace, they were harassed by Kiellar destroyers and corvettes, eventually crippling the Vengeance with strength in numbers. A brutal boarding action followed, with the Purified being disabled by EMP bolts to be subdued.

Now, Trajan and most of the thirty crewmen were killed, but Karesan survived, and was placed in a pod in a certain ship called the Defiance. He had lost one of his hands in the ordeal before that, but the mind within thirsts for vengeance.

We had agreed to not have any more psychic characters in the RP as they were beginning to become run of the mill. Sorry, this guy is too overpowered given your current roster.

If you tone him down to a more normal level I'm happy for you to bring in another character.

He looks fine, but two points on the backstory.

1. I don't want there being a major rebellion going on in Ragon territory. It does not work for the current plot.

2. It's a Skrim drive... Skyrim is a videogame in the Elder Scrolls series :P

1. A minor one then?
2. Ah autocorrect

On the first point, it would be that it might seem a major one, but in the scope of the entire place, it is actually minor and not much of a threat. 120,000 members or do and several dozen cruisers are not really much of a major rebellion when placed in the scope of former Republic space, let alone all of Ragon territory.

As we discussed on discord, this is fine.

They all start off as criminals of some sort... Mostly the bad kind, though you could make a political prisoner or someone wrongfully accused of you want. Either way you'll end up stick with the Defiance crew, whether you like them or not!

Character Description
Name: Ry'kanos Au'valo Tu'lvath Rychese. Otherwise known as Kanos
    Species: Ar'kaevian
    Gender: Male
    Age: 337
    Appearance:
    Image

Strengths and Weaknesses
Skills: Ry'kanos is a veteran of countless fields of battle as well as having served as a commander and leader for his Clan. He is proficient with most firearms but excels at close quarters combat, feeling the heat of the blood of his victims upon his flesh.
Weaknesses: Despite his advanced years, Ry'kanos is impulsive, quick to anger, and prone to react violently if he feels his honor has been questioned.

Background:
    Role on Ship: CQC Specialist
Crimes Committed: Leading an attack on the orbital station, the 'Chuluchim'
    Personality:
He is the most intense, profound, and powerful character you will ever likely to meet. Even when he appears self-controlled and calm there is a seething intensity of emotional energy under the placid exterior. He is like the volcano not far under the surface of a calm sea, it may burst into eruption at any moment. But those of us who are particularly perceptive will be aware of the harnessed aggression, the immense forcefulness, magnetic intensity, and often strangely hypnotic personality under the tranquil, but watchful composure of Ry'kanos. In conventional social gatherings he is pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous; although at times his eyes appear penetrating which make his shyer companions feel naked and defenseless before him.

    Backstory:
The Rychese Clan was a minor clan devoted to the Federation military, specifically the Federation Marines. Ry'kanos was only seven years old when the Malvelsi Massacre occurred.
The Malvelsi was a backwater world on the edge of the Federation. When it was discovered that a previously unknown alien race had attempted to settle the world, the 7th Federation Battalion, composed of the Rychese Clan and three others, landed on Malvelsi to oust the aliens. What should have been a simple forced eviction of the aliens in question devolved in to the 7th Battalion opening fire on women and children. Within twenty minutes, three hundred of the alien immigrants were dead or dying. When news of the Massacre reached Kaevia, a Tribunal was called. It was discovered that the Rychese Clan was primarily responsible. In accordance with the Sacred Laws the Clan was considered having broken their Oaths. Nearly half of the Clan chose death instead of becoming Kar'ahsti. Those who chose to become Kar'ahsti, led by Matriarch-Colonel Izla N'auv Rychese, Ry'kanos' mother, hijacked Erebys Class Cruiser and fled Federation space. Under her command were nearly three hundred men and women.

For the next three centuries the Rychese Clan acted as a mercenary band made infamous for their ruthlessness and strength of arms. Using the Erebys Class Cruiser as a base of operations, Colonel Izla and the Rychese were quite adept inside the Neutral Zone. Ry'kanos grew up with only a brief memory of the homeworld Kaevia and knew only the Cruiser as home and war as his birthright. Trained since a child, Ry'kanos soon rose through the ranks of Clan and Regiment to become a lieutenant, leading cousins and other family members on to the killing fields of dozens of worlds. It was at the Battles of Juvi II and III that Ry'kanos gained the moniker, the O'vari Kas which meant Death Angel in the language of the Ar'kaevi for the amount of killing honors Ry'kanos gained that day.

As was his right upon earning his blood honors on the field of battle, Kanos took a wife upon the even of his two hundredth birthday, a beautiful woman by the name of Nalakia. Within the first three decades of their marriage, Kanos was gifted with nearly a half dozen children, a great brood of four girls and two boys that Kanos raised in the traditions taught by the Matriarch-Colonel to her son. By this point in Kanos' life, he had assumed command of the Clan after the death of his mother and the remaining Kar'ahsti. By that point, the Erebys had become quite crowded, the number in the Clan having swelled to near five hundred, and not all of them were Ar'kaevi. A few dozen were Kezahk from all over Andromeda whom, for reasons of their own, had become attached to the Rychese.

It was under the advice of the Kiel by the name of Ordir that Kanos directed the Erebys towards Kiellar Command space. Ry'kanos had the intentions of taking another ship to add to his command, to relieve some of the space aboard the cruiser. There was a planet where decommissioned warships were sent to be retrofitted for another term of service or turned in to scrap to be recycled for another purpose. Ordir convinced Ry'kanos that it was lightly guarded. It would be easy for the hundreds strong, veteran Ar'kaevi to overpower the forces holding the orbital station known as the Chuluchim and take a ship for their own.

When the Erebys arrived in the Chulu System, they were surprised to find that the Kiellar were waiting for them. A brief space battle occurred wherein the Erebys was forced to make a crash landing on the Chuluchim. It was only as the ship was crashing that Ordir revealed himself to be a spy for Kiellar Command. Kanos was shot in the back with a tranq round, left for retrieval later, while the rest of the Rychese fought their way from the ruins of their the ship they had called home for centuries. The survivors made their way aboard a Kiellar frigate.

Ordir had been sloppy in his shooting or the tranq round was not as strong as it should have been. Ry'kanos had awakened and made his way from the ruins of his ship in time to see the Kiellar frigate escape the orbital station. Unfortunately, it coincided shortly with Ry'kanos' capture. Rather than kill him, Ordir was determined to torture Ry'kanos with the information of where the frigate could have escaped to and more information on the Ar'kaevi themselves. The damage done to the Chuluchim had left the station almost nonoperational. Fortunately, the battlecruiser known as the Zeracata was close at hand. Ordir transferred his prisoner aboard the Zeracata to be processed, tortured, and eventually executed.

Species Description
Name: Ar'kaevian (Of Kaevia in English)
Singular: The Ar'kaevian walked in to a bar.
Plural: The Ar'kaevi are a honor based civilization
Adjective: Ar'kaevi culture is very duty focused
    Appearance:
    Image

Biology: A near-human species characterized by enhanced musculature and denser skeletal structure with the heart buried deeper in the torso that compared to humans. Outwardly, they are known for the near unanimous white hair and gold eyes although a rare golden haired or silver eyed Ar'kaevian can be spotted. It is common practice to braid their hair and add precious metals in the strands, typically gold. They tend to live far longer than the average human without scientific enhancements, typically up to seventy hundred and fifty years..

The concept of Honor and Duty are tightly woven throughout the psyche of the average Ar'kaevian. Honor in their personal lives, and duty to their Clan and their Family. Personal integrity and oaths fall into this category. For instance, an oathbreaker (an Ar'kaevian that has been proven to have lied or broken an oath) are considered anathema to the Federation and are ordered to be killed on sight for grievous oath-breaking. If the Ar'kaevian has been proven to have lied, they are stripped of their rank and made slaves to work menial tasks. Or they can choose to become Kar'ahsti, forever Exiled from the Federation and forced to die a lonely death far from the bosom of hearth and family. However, this does not apply to non-Ar'kaevian's known as Kezahk in Ar'kaevi. The Sacred Laws do not apply to them except when dealing with them in purely professional manner. For example, a diplomat or merchant. Ar'kaevi are all driven by the desire for excellence, the concept of laziness or slacking foreign to them. To other peoples, the Ar'kaevi are seen as proud and arrogant, but courteous (if a bit distant and cold). If not an Oathbreaker, every Ar'kaevian is considered equal to another Ar'kaevian.

Ar'kaevi all fall into major Clans and within every Clan is a House which is made up of a Family. How many Houses are within a Clan determines the size of that Clan. The largest Clan is that of Clan Jihai which contains the Emperor, the leader of the Kaevian Federation. Within a House is usually made up of the Patriarch and Matriarch, the eldest of that House, with several family members. The Patriarch and Matriarch, and the extended family, supply for and educate the child until the age of five where the Child is expected to begin work, usually in the same profession the parents of the Ar'kaevian engaged in. This produces highly specialized workers overtime and for nurturing of independence within the Ar'kaevi. For example, the current Commander of the Federation Marines can trace his lineage of duty within the military back for generations. However, it is not discouraged for children to go their own way, some choosing to go another way in life.

Houses within the Clan are often a tangled and mixed match that, to a Kezahk, is a labyrinth of blood ties and a bewildering mix of families.

However, it is this very family bond that has allowed the Kaevian Federation to survive in it's sector of space and beyond. To explain some of the tradition of House bonds. A House is increased or decreased in size by the number within that House. For instance, if a marriage bond is enacted with another House, the female becomes part of the male’s House and severs all ties with her former House. However, if a male marries above his station (i.e. into a stronger Clan or House), HE severs all ties with his original House and joins his mate’s House. Typically a mate is chosen from a foreign Clan but it is not uncommon for one to marry within their own Clan, as long as it is not within the same House.

Oaths are considered nearly as sacrosanct as the Sacred Laws themselves and usually deal with justice, protection, commitment, and duty. For example, a foul murderer kills a Patriarch of a House and his son Vows to bring the killer to justice. The wording is incredibly important. Vengeance is considered highly selfish and dangerous and, while understandable, is considered befouling an Oath and thus staining the soul of the Oathmaker. It is also is legally, morally, and spiritually binding the Oathmaker to that Oath until it is complete. In the case of the murdered Patriarch, the Oathmaker must seek out any means necessary to complete his Oath UNLESS it is illegal or otherwise amoral or spiritually damning. The Oathmaker must work within the Sacred Laws. If the Oathmaker Breaks his Oath, he can be expected to be slain or become a slave. The Oathmaker is stripped of his Clan and House and made Outcast.

Typically, those serving militant roles within the Federation are marked by the use of fetishes such as keeping small finger bones carved with runes offering protection, luck in battle, and other such things. Members of the Federation Armed Forces are allowed to take trophies from fallen, worthy enemies. Fetishes are allowed within the military as long as they do not obscure rank or otherwise cause a disruption of that soldier's duty.

When an Ar'kaevian dies, they are ritually cremated and their ashes mixed in an incredibly strong alcoholic drink called Fire Ale that is then drank by the entire House as a way to pass on the strengths of the passed Ar'kaevian . Once the Fire Ale has been all drunk, the Funeral Rite is over and the dead Ar'kaevian is no longer mentioned. In times of war, the soldier's ashes are consumed by members of the same company. The exception is the ashes of an Outcast which are scattered without ritual or of a Ar'kaevian that has been believed to have acted dishonorably.

The Kaevian Federation is ruled by the Emperor, who is elected to his position after the former Emperor has passed. The Emperor is selected from the House of Primarchs, the greatest Lord Marshals (leaders among the Federation Armed Forces). The Federation is a militant meritocracy where only the best military minds are expected to lead the Federation. The only exception to this rule is the Trade Baronies and the House of Ministry.

Individual planets are governed by Lord Governors that are selected from the System Defense Force Lord Marshals that are responsible for the protection of each System. System Governors are elected by the House of System Marshals to their rank after being nominated by the House of the Primarchs. Sector Governors are nominated and elected by the House of Primarchs. The Trade Baronies are responsible for maintaining trade and commerce between the Systems of the Federation while the House of Ministry deals with the bureaucracy of the Federation.

Background:
    Homeworld: Kaevia
History: "Our earliest ancestors speak of how we were once forced to fight for overlords that came from the sky. For their amusement. For their pleasure. The blood was spilled and the flesh was left to rot. Generations passed. A boy named Kaev'i rose up and slew his Master and began the Great Rebellion where we cast down the Masters and took up the whip and rod. It was Kaev'i that taught us the Sacred Laws, it was he who deigned that we make ourselves into Clans and conquer this world that we had spilled an ocean of blood in to.

We then killed him and ate him."

From those humble beginnings, the Ar'kaevians were not content to remain on their birth world. Once they had conquered splitting the atom, their technology advanced at a rabid pace. Soon, they had developed the technology to colonize the Four Moons of Kaevia. From there, using sub-light technology, they conquered their System, the first war against a neighbor being the barely sentient Kyroaks in the moons of the gas giants in the outer system. Invigorated from their successful genocide of the Kyroak, they continued to expand. The Skrim Drive, known as the Slipstream to Ar'kaevi, was eventually discovered on a dead world in the Oort Cloud of their home system. With this in hand, they began colonizing nearby worlds. It is at this time that the formation of the Ar'kaevi Empire arose, led by the Holy Emperor.

What they found was a plethora of alien species and almost all of them were hostile. What began were the Invasions where the fledgling Empire was repeatedly invaded by stronger alien species and Kaevia and her people systematically slaughtered. However, the Empire, through sheer tenacity and a grueling will to survive, triumphed over each invasive alien species, adapting and overcoming their foes, assimilating their technology and eventually going on the offensive after near two hundred years of watching their people and their homes burn.

The Great Ages began with the destruction of the last faction to try and Invade, the dread Aot'ori. The Ar'kaevi Empire expanded to it's largest extent, ruling nearly a fourth of western quadrants of Andromeda. After nearly five thousand years though, the Ar'kaevi started to become a victim of their own success. The ancient Ar'kaevi crumbled from repeated invasions from new enemies and old, internal corruption, and a weakened military. Success had made them complacent, weak.

Another thousand years known as the Black Age would see the Ar'kaevi Empire reduced to a few systems. To save their people, the new Emperors would no longer be allowed to rule by sheer dent of birth. They would be elected to their position by the greatest of the Lord Marshals, the House of Primarchs. With a return to their roots, that of militarism and meritocracy overall in their culture, the Federation defended it's corner of space.

Now, twenty five hundred years later, the Kaevian Federation continues it's existence, no longer the glorified superpower but determined to defend their last bastions of civilization with their last breaths.

They look good to me. I'm assuming their planets are within the Neutral Zone, somewhere? It's a deliberately ill-defined region of space.

I imagined, if we were looking at a map of the galaxy, they'd be at the extreme west edge of the galaxy in some remote corner somewhere. If that won't fly, I'll have them in the Neutral Zone, yeah.

I'd suggest the NZ, that other area is a 'here be dragons' unexplored region of space, which might be what you are going for but which would require a bit more explanation of how your char got to where you are.
