Synopsis
The year was 1929. On September 20, the London Stock Exchange crashed when British investor Clarence Hatry and his associates were jailed for fraud and forgery. This greatly weakened the optimism of American investment in overseas markets. In the days leading to this, the market was severly unstable. From October 24 to October 29, the Wall Street crashed when share prices collapsed. For 12 years, the Great Depression came to terrorize the world without mercy. Economy collapsed everywhere and poverty came knocking on every door. Rich people committed suicide and citywide riots emerged quickly. Shops were looted and banks were totally destroyed. The chaos that Wall Street caused has a huge effect on the world. Some countries struggled to fight such as Italy, who created the largest state-owned industrial sector in Europe, and the US, who tried to figure out the causes of the Great Depression by forming the Pecora Commission in 1932. The Great Depression also led to the rise of political ideologies, most notably fascism (which was already in control of Italy since 1922). Meanwhile, armed conflicts suddenly broke out, mainly in Canada (where the country gets split into the Republic of Quebec and the United Provinces of Canada), Thailand (when elements of the Thai military sought out to end absolute monarchy), Latin America (mostly between leftists and fascists) and France (when left-wing populists took up arms and targeted the government for it's "economic crime against the French population").

FDR, the new US President, came forward with a plan called the "New Deal". In 1933, he was holding an impromptu speech in Miami, Florida, when he was assassinated by an Italian-born anarchist named Giuseppe Zangara. This assassination came to split the US into multiple countries as many, just like the anarchist himself, didn't like the New Deal. Martial law was imposed in numerous parts of the country while political elements saw an opportunity to take control at the same time. While the US government struggled to implement the New Deal, it was violently opposed by various groups ranging from "business nationalists", rogue military personnel, communist politicians, rogue Democrats, Republicans, anarchists and some powerful companies to factory workers, farmers, homeless people and separatist movements. Chaos culminated later that year, when the US ceased to exist and various governments formed out of it. Alaska, meanwhile, was annexed by the USSR.

In the same year, Germany came under the rule of a far-right party, whose policies helped stabilize the country amid the Great Depression and promote the nationalist concept of "Volksgemeinschaft". This party also dreamed about avenging Germany's defeat in the Great War, even if a new Great War would be more disastrous and led to further issues once it was over.

In 1934, the USSR saw an opportunity to invade Finland, first by foot through the Russo-Finnish border before sending in it's navy to attack Finnish coasts and annex Åland. The annexation, however, triggered Sweden, who rallied both Norway and Denmark into helping it to kick the USSR off Åland and then aid Finland. After two years of fighting, the USSR withdrew it's armed forces from Finland, creating so much common nationalism among the Nordic countries with the possibility of a single Nordic country being created as a result.

To regain pride after being defeated by the Nordic countries, the USSR set it's eyes on China, whose ruling party, the Kuomintang, was badly fighting Japan in Manchuria and the Communist Party of China in it's home territory. While Germany supported the KMT, the USSR supported the CPC. Both Germany and the USSR also sent troops to China, which meant they also fought the Japanese forces up north. The Soviet intervention unnerved the Japanese as the USSR might conquer Manchuria, thus Japan was forced to seek ceasefire with Germany, China and the USSR. Both Germany and the USSR saw an opportunity to establish ceasefire between the KMT and the CPC. In 1937, a year after the USSR withdrew it's armed forces from Finland, the Treaty of Nanjing was signed between the KMT, the CPC, the USSR, the Empire of Japan and the German Reich, splitting China into two countries. The Republic of China (ROC) controlled the southern half (with Tibet as a sovereign protectorate) while the Chinese Soviet Republic (CSR) controlled the northern half (without Manchuria and Uyghuristan). The Chinese Civil War (later known as the "First Chinese Civil War") ended 10 years after it first began and Japan is still amibitious about full control over China. The ROC later democratized to allow political parties to co-exist with the ruling KMT.

In 1938, due to a lot of factors, such as communist insurgency in France and the dissolution of the US, the European countries were forced to accept German demands, thus preventing a new Great War from breaking out. Germany, as a result, gained Austria, Alsace-Lorraine, German Cameroon, German East Africa, Togoland, parts of Czechoslovakia, parts of Poland and the German-speaking community of Belgium in the "Treaty of Brussels", which also nullified the Treaty of Versailles. While this ended peacefully and satisfied the Germans, it led to dissatisfaction among Britishmen, Frenchmen, Czechs, Slovaks, Poles and Belgians. Czechoslovakia somehow lost Czech parts to the German Reich, thus leaving Slovakia as a sovereign country. Germany and the USSR, thanks to the Treaty of Nanjing, made a non-aggression pact after China was divided by the treaty. A year later, the Spanish Civil War ends with Carlist victory, thus both overthrowing the Second Spanish Republic and restoring the Kingdom of Spain.

Also in 1938, the Republic of California invaded Baja California and Baja California Sur to actualize the concept of "Greater California", starting a year-long conflict with Mexico called the "Baja War", which California was able to win and keep the two Mexican states under it's control.

In 1940, a group of French nationalists who supported French values such as liberty, democracy and equality were so angry over the Treaty of Brussels that they accused the French government of treason against French society, which helped mounting up further opposition towards the government. In the end, the government was impeached by the National Assembly, who had been persuaded into this by the exact same group of French nationalists and then held emergency election. Once a party aligned with the nationalist group won the eleciton, France was made into the Fourth Republic, which was just as revanchist as Germany itself. It seeks to nullify the Treaty of Brussels and take back Alsace-Lorraine from German control. Unlike Germany, the Fourth Republic was just as democratic as the Third Republic, albeit more nationalist.

In 1941, still obsessed with world domination, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and subsequently invaded Hawaii, which alerted the Republic of California, who responded by declaring war on Japan, starting the Pacific War (1941-1945). The two countries fought each other throughout the Pacific for 4 years. The war eventually led to strategic Californian victory and the signing of the Treaty of San Francisco, which gave California control over Hawaii, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Midway Atoll, Wake Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Palmyra Atoll, Howland Island, Baker Island, Jarvis Island and the American Samoa while also earning California geopolitical hegemony over the Pacific as evident by the Philippines having a pro-Californian government since a civil war that was possibly part of the Pacific War. Japan still opposes Californian presence, seeing it as a threat to the "Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere", which Japan seeks to create.

In 1942, South Africa officially cuts all ties with the UK and declares itself an independent Afrikaner nation. This led to conflict between the ruling Afrikaners and various ethnic groups such as Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana, Sotho, Venda, Tsonga, Ndebele, British South Africans and Indian South Africans. On the other hand, the UK went militant on South Africa for this, leading to what the British called the "Third Boer War" (also referred to by Afrikaners as the "South African War of Independence"), which lasted from exactly 1942 to 1945. The Afrikaners put up a good fight against the British, who were aided by native South African rebels (Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana, Tsonga, Sotho, Ndebele, etc), as well as British South Africans and Indian South Africans, while Germany and various foreign volunteers (mostly Dutch volunteers) secretly backed the Afrikaner government. In 1945, the conflict ended with de facto Afrikaner victory and the signing of the Treaty of Johannesburg, which officially declared South Africa an independent country and also gave the UK continued control over Swaziland (including a coastal part of South Africa), Rhodesia (both Northern Rhodesia and Southern Rhodesia), Bechuanaland and South-West Africa.

In 1944, despite successful colonization of North Africa and East Africa in the 1930s, the Kingdom of Italy had a crisis regarding Benito Mussolini's paranoia over German territorial expansion since 1938. Fearing that Germany would come after Italy due to both being enemies back in the Great War, Benito became so extremely paranoid that he ordered full mobilization at the Austro-Italian border. This caused the Italian government to impeach him for his insanity, which helped bring an end to fascist rule as elections were held in 1946, resulting in the country being democratized again. Ethiopia was independent again, but Italy still retained Libya and Somalia.

In 1945, the atomic bomb was manufactured. California used it first to eradicate a whole IJN fleet on August 6, which may help end the Pacific War immediately, as California effectively threatened Japan with more atomic bombings if it didn't agree to a stalemate, which was eventually agreed to on August 9. As a result of this, California strategically won the Pacific War and later signed the Treaty of San Francisco with Japan. However, the nuclear attack on August 6 shocked the world, while other countries like the UK, the USSR, France, Germany and South Africa also began developing nuclear weapons, resulting in some nuclear tests. This would ultimately led to the signing of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in the 1950s.

In 1948, the Kingdom of Israel was granted independence from the UK. The country was a Jewish monarchy represented by a King and controlled by a Prime Minister. This creation led to conflict with Arab states. Meanwhile, the Dominion of India was struck by clashes between opposing ideologies, most notably Hindutva, Islamism and communism. The country split up into the Republic of India, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Kingdom of Khalistan, the Maratha Empire, the Tamil Republic and the Naxal Commune.

In 1950, a series of border clashes led to a full-scale war between the CSR and the ROC, starting the "Second Chinese Civil War". The war lasted until 1954 when the Treaty of Macau is signed and the borders further militarized as a result. Throughout the war, the CSR was supported by the USSR, Mongolia, Uyghuristan (Xinjiang), Burma and Naxal, while the ROC was supported by Japan, Germany, France, Portugal, Canada, the UK, the Philippines, the Republic of India and the Republic of California. It was in this conflict that the CSR captured Nanjing, the capital of the ROC, forcing the ROC to choose a new capital down south.

Amid the Second Chinese Civil War, the USSR began orchestrating and supporting revolutions across Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East in a bid for world communism. European colonies in Africa were fragile as anti-colonialist groups (Gaddafists, Mau Mau, Nasserists, Bourguibists, FLN, MNA, Pan-Somalists, Sankarists, etc) attacked them and sought out their independence from Europe. In Latin America, left-wing politics took control of Cuba (1959) and Venezuela (1958), while fierce combat between government forces and insurgent groups raged on in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Colombia and Brazil. In the Middle East, the Arabic ideology of Ba'athism pledged allegiance to the USSR and gained political control of Iraq, Syria, Egypt and Kuwait, alerting Turkey, Israel and other Arab countries down south. In Iran, as a result of people being afraid of communist takeover, the Tudeh Party was jointly removed from power by both the Pahlavi family and the UK. In Southeast Asia, communist insurgents, supported by the USSR, the CSR, Burma and Naxal, were clashing with government forces in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Meanwhile, the Space Race began in 1955 and countries are struggling with reaching the outer space.

In 1960, both the Belgian Congo and Ruanda-Urundi jointly declares independence from Belgium as Congo, mainly thanks to Soviet support. This leads to the Congo Crisis, when the European powers began orchestrating rebellion within the new country as a response to the USSR orchestrating rebellion across the world. Violent clashes between various political factions became rampant within Congo as a result of Soviet-European rivalry.

In 1961, a series of border clashes occurs between Mexico and the former US (mostly Tex, mostly due to the result of trying to stop illegal immigration with violent force.

In 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis occured and Algeria seceded from France after eight years of separatist violence.

In 1963, Jeremy Carlton, the President of California, was on a state visit in the Republic of Texas. While riding a car through Dallas on November 22, he was assassinated by a sniper. This led to brief diplomatic tensions between Texas and California while Japan and the USSR were also blamed for the assassination. Meanwhile, an acting President was appointed to rule California until the presidential elections are held the following year.

It is now January 1, 1964. The Republic of California is still mourning the assassination of it's former President, the USSR is dealing with issues within the CPSU leadership, Europe is on the brink of war between two of it's great powers, Japan is seeking profit and alliance among it's neighbours, the former US is still facing various issues, the British Empire has ceased to exist, there are high tensions between India and it's neighbours, the Non-Proliferation Treaty is still in effect, the Space Race is accompanied by technological progress and the communist revolts in Africa, Asia and Latin America are still ongoing. Most important, the effects of the Great Depression are still present. Whatever happens afterwards is everyone's guess.

Intro
Welcome to "A Song of Money and Fire", a RP where the US is split and WW2 never occured (thus WW1 is still known as the "Great War"), as well as the Great Depression being much worse here than IRL (as it came to cause a lot of armed conflicts). Starting in 1/1/1964 (January 1, 1964), you are in charge of a nation that is doing it's best to reshape the world alongside other nations at this time. It has been 31 years since FDR was assassinated, splitting the US into multiple countries. You either play as a US successor state or a non-US country. It is up to you to decide a path for your country, no matter what it takes. The world has economically recovered, yet other issues are still in place, waiting to devastate the world once again.

Fourth French Republic (Quatrième République Française)

Presidential Palace, Paris, France, Fourth French Republic
There was a cold wind drifting outside the Presidential Palace. President Henrique Boechat looked out the window from his office and literally inspected the outside. He looked with determination regarding 1964 and the years after that. Much have been lost, but shall be reclaimed at any cost.

Henrique Boechat is of Portuguese descent. His father's family immigrated from Portugal to France in the 1890s. When the Popular Uprising broke out, there was bloodshed across the cities of France. Not only that, but in 1938, France ceded the French Cameroons and Alsace-Lorraine to the German Reich, causing outrage within the French population. That's how the Fourth French Republic was formed as a result of anger towards the Third French Republic. French nationalism reigned supreme and anti-government sentiment quickly disappeared, yet remained among certain political groups.

He also notices that the tensions between France and Germany are on the brink of turning into full-scale war, especially when French colonies, both current and former, are rife with communist insurgency. Even if he needs to stay true to his ideology, he is still forced to painfully do a difficult decision.
To: German Reich

Dear Reichskanzler Otto Remer, our countries have been enemies for such a long time since the Great War. But now that our countries had grown into competent great powers, there is a risk that we may violently fight each other to death. Since communism is infecting our overseas territories and recruiting our citizens, it is noteworthy if we put our differences aside and cooperate for the first time since the Boxer Rebellion. I might even run the risk of betraying my country for making peace with your country. But we are about to lose everything if the USSR and it's minions gets an opportunity. It is time to prevent another Great War.

Cordialement, President Henrique Boechat of the Fourth French Republic

The Quebecois Republic
La République Québécoise

"Je croîs sous la rose."

January 1, 1964 - City of Montreal, The Quebecois Republic

In the Montreal Athletics Stadium, through the gentle snowfall, hundreds of thousands of Quebecois' gathered to hear the national addressment of "Maréchaux" Lemieux regarding the decisive Battle of Montreal so many years ago.

As content as the Quebecois are, security is relatively tight at the Montreal Rally. When a Safeguardsmen was asked for the number of Anglo's present at the stadium, an answer of 1,831 was given right away.

Image
Maréchaux Maxime Lemieux of Parti Quebecois gives an addressment to officer's of the Safeguard of Quebec.

On December 15th, 1932, at 7:42 PM, the first and last battle was fought for Quebec independence. The four-day hesitation from the declaration of war gave Quebecois citizens fair time to entrench and evacuate women and children. The decisive Battle of Montreal, known commonly as the Starlight Skirmish. A CAF battalion and RCMP police group began a 4 hour artillery barrage at the city, before preparing for an assault. At 11:41 PM, CAF began marching towards the city. When they reached the city at 11:59 PM, the order to affix bayonets was given to Quebecois forces, which consisted of the Safeguard, armed partisans of the Parti Quebecois, and French-Canadian volunteers and conscripts. At 12:04 AM, when CAF reached Montreal, Quebecois Forces launched an all-out bayonet charge at the unsuspecting CAF and RCMP. Close-quarters fighting along the outskirts of levelled Montreal persisted until 12:31 AM, in which the Quebecois prevailed, sending the CAF and RCMP into a scattered retreat. More CAF died in the frigid winter cold after being separated from their battalion then in the skirmish with Quebecois Forces.

The unexpected and decisive victory for Quebecois Forces was a resounding boost of nationalism and morale across French-Canada. Only five days later, on December 20th, 1932, Canada accepted the Montreal Pact, which saw the sovereignty of Quebec, and recognition of the new Quebecois Republic. Canadian flags were burnt, Anglo's were deported, and weak border wall was constructed but never finished. The Safeguard was adopted as the national milita and de-facto military, until the formation of the National Gendarmerie in 1940.

Image
The first units of the Quebecois Safeguard set up a roadblock for the Battle of Montreal.

The Montreal Stadium remained open with food-bars, free drinks, and live entertainment long after Maréchaux Maxime Lemieux hour-long speech to the people.

The New Quebecois Republic has long left behind the days of Anglo-Oppression, and celebrates a much more tolerant community almost 30 years later, but the high's of our rich history shall never fade into nothingness. The Quebecois' are proud to demonstrate that no matter how small their country is compared to their neighbour to the West is, The Quebecois Republic is a force to be reckoned with as we step forward into the new year.

WITC News Station - Detroit

Evening

'Good day Detroit, this is your TV-5/WITC evening news hour, I'm Howard Darton. Mohiana is about to embark on a new federal-directed program for the improvement and modernization of military equipment and tactics. The Governor's signature created a new National Defence Administration today, which will now amalgamate and streamline the common administrative functions of their respective agencies. Governor Levitan said in a special statement that the measure was an "historic step" pledged to "peaceful purposes for the benefit of all Mohiana citizens." It was expected the Governor would ask the Senate for about five billion dollars to finance the new agency. Maj. Del Newman, head of the National Advisory Committee for Defence, estimated NDA would be a functioning unit within two to three months. NDA will supersede Newman's 17-year-old committee. There was speculation Newman might become the $240,500-a-year administrator of the new agency. The law charges the administrator with planning, directing and conducting auditing activities among other clerical functions. But it also gives the Department of Defense clear jurisdiction over "activities interested in or primarily associated with the weapon development, military operations or the defense of the Commonwealth of Mohiana, including research necessary to make the effective provision for the defense of the Commonwealth. Newman said funds would be asked from the Senate for these major purposes: Equipment modernization & repair, policy interests & auditing, and training, the details of which are still classified at this time. Governor Levitan signed into law Today a bill establishing a the new agency to supervise the defense efforts, as well as issuing a publid statement.

"The Mohiana government has been forced to take action to safeguard what it believes are legitimate technological interests in our nation's armed forces. This administration has therefore resolved to implement new reforms, including the NDA, into the defense sector. We are confident that the world will take note of our resolve and will not forget that Mohiana continues to hold a strong, proud, and peaceful presence in North America, built on the prospects of liberty."

'Many political advisors and economic experts believe that Levitan's relatively detailed implementation of the bill that has been in discussion for months is a direct result of Germany's rapid military and social advancement in central Europe. Thus far, this firm expansion has been contributing to particular curiosity and fear amongst Senate members, as well as economic intrigue with various economists who believe the market represents untapped investment opportunities.'

'In other news, Mid-Central Airlines launched the nation's first transatlantic jet passenger service today with a record-smashing Valence Series 400 flight from Detroit to London that shrank the Atlantic in half. The sleek silver jetliner, the most recent of Valence passenger aircraft to be introduced to the market, made the flight in official time of 7 hours and 37 minutes, half the usual scheduled time for DC- 7CS. It was airborne in Detroit at 8:12 a.m. (EST) and was clocked over...'

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

The General Secretary sat in a comfortable armchair on the large balcony overlooking the sunset across the Black Sea. Yalta on the Crimean Peninsula had a long history as a center of tourism, now most of the streets lay silent. Partly because the tourist season had yet to start and partly because the Soviet economy had been brought to stagnancy by the vast amounts of money spent on aiding communist revolutionaries and neonate communist regimes around the world. General Secretary Korolyev coughed, cursing under his breath he reached for a cup of herbal tea on the small table. He could not deny that he like the taste but a fine shot of vodka would be more than welcome. Damn doctors.

He had been attending a dinner party held by the People's Secretary of Foreign Affairs along with other high-ranking CPSU members in Kiev when he suddenly fell to the floor in terrible pain, the struggle to save his life lasted all night as he was rushed to the nearest hospital. Now he could not drink, not smoke, the damn doctors, he couldn't even enjoy himself for the years he had left. Liver cancer was not something to be taken lightly. They gave him five more years, at most. Even before this whole situation his position in the CPSU had been eroding, now, told by his doctors to rest away from the political affairs of the Soviet Union he left more cut off from Moscow than ever.

The CPSU was a strange beast, a complex web of tradition, skulduggery, promises of support, threats of retaliation and considerations of mutual interest binds the upper echelons of the patry together and determines who holds the reins of the USSR and who does not. His reign had seen a de-stalinization organized by Nikita Khrushchev, Korolyev's Secretary of the Interior which put an end to the Stalinist cult of personality along with a large reduction of the gulag-system along with the release of nearly two million political prisoners. On the world stage, his support to communist movements across the world had caused the workers of Africa to rise up against colonialist oppression, similarly in Southeast Asia while in Cuba and Venezuela, the proletariat had succeeded in overthrowing their capitalist masters.

But now, his position was growing weaker. The vast amounts of funds and resources spent on exporting the revolution had caused the Soviet economy to stagnate and the people to grow restless due to this, it also led to ever further isolation from non-communist states which caused many within the Party to question him, most dangerous to his reign was Sergei Izotov, a reformer who had traveled extensively and had many increasingly popular ideas to revitalize the Soviet economy. He was growing ever more popular within the CPSU. Foreign observers have been known to call power-struggles within the CPSU to be "dog-fights under a carpet". You can only hear barking and growling and when one dog emerges from under the carpet, you know who won. Now, the barking was getting louder by the week.

The Quebecois Republic
La République Québécoise

Image
"Je croîs sous la rose."

January 2, 1964 - Quebec City, The Quebecois Republic

Confidential Meeting

Despite the long New Years Celebrations, Ministers and Councillors of the Parti Quebecois persevered to trudge through the snow to reach an a meeting of top importance in the capital city. As Safeguardsmen clad in white open the doors for the Party Executives, and gentle snowfall dressed the building in white, Maréchaux Lemieux greeting the party members as they entered and took their seats, before Safeguardsmen shut the doors behind them, and took up guarding posts.

"This meeting is to discuss the growing nuisance that is our neighbour to the West."

The Ministers convened to discuss what to do with the growing imposition of the Canadian moose behind closed doors. It is no secret that the Quebecois and the Anglo have had a history of mounted tensions and cold shoulders, but with world tension rising across Europe and Asia, it may be time to bring to bring the conflict to the America's and deal one final, decisive war to determine the fate of the North American Peninsula, just as the Quebecois did or so many years ago.

After a few hours or so of non-stop debate and discussion, the tired Party Leader's eventually concurred onto one statement of truth; War with Unitary Canada was inevitable. The question was, who would take the initiative, and when?

La Maréchaux called to attention his loyalist Safeguardsmen, who approached with a salute.

"Begin drafting up invasion plans for total war with Canada. Make it short and decisive."

The Safeguardsmen gave a nod, and left the room. A telegram was sent West to the headquarters of the Sûreté du Québec, back in Montreal, and another East to the headquarters of the National Gendarmerie in Halifax. A secret invasion plan was in the works.

Maxwell Auto Factory Ribbon Ceremony - Detroit

Midday

Inside a large enclosed vehicle warehouse attached to the latest addition to the Detroit motor industry: 'Maxwell Motors Detroit'. Rows of chairs are neatly placed on a blue carpet in rows before a large collapsable stage adorned with red and blue streamers. Two flagpoles are placed at each end, one with the Mohiana flag and the other with a corporate flag. A crowd has gathered, including most of the company's local investors, the city politicians, and a hand-wringing new-money executive named Darcy Maxwell who represents the company's partners. There is also a video news crew, and various photographers situated throughout the audience.

The investors crowd on-stage around the podium. In the background, mid-size sedans and wagons are being showcased on a massive show floor. The audience claps as Bob Levitan bounds over to the stage with a pip in his step. followed by his secretary and various personnel. The clapping ends as Levitan rests at the podium, greeting certain people.

"Mr. Mayor, Mr. Maxwell, Ladies and Gentlemen. It is a great privilege for me to be invited to join in your celebrations today, indeed, I think we are all very happy to be here. It was in 1962 that we heard of Maxwell's decision to establish a pilot assembly plant in Detroit and we so very warmly welcomed their decision. It was confirmation from Maxwell after a long and thorough appraisal, that following many years of economic uncertainty, and eventual growth, that now is the most attractive time —politically and economically—for large scale investment and expansion within our great nation. That was good news and of course we thought the decision absolutely right. It was a compliment in particular to those who had advocated the benefits of Detroit, whose infrastructure, traditions and people offer such a promising environment for substantial new manufacturing exercise."

"Since october, the first cars have rolled off the production line and new relationships are being forged with suppliers throughout the world. A new framework for industrial relations has been established within the city and you have embarked on an impressive training program here for your current and future employees. Much has been achieved. However, while your primary phase has proceeded to plan, we have awaited eagerly for Maxwell's promised statement on its long-term intentions for the Detroit plant and the strategy you have outlined in your announcement today, Mr. Maxwell has provided the answers and we warmly welcome your statement. Maxwell now will be a major manufacturer of cars not only within Mohiana and a major employer for this city, but an innovative corporation with the size and capability for worldwide export. Maxwell will now be a major exporter of cars into the Quebequois Republic, as well as Europe and beyond. I have no doubt that you have made a wise decision in making this significant decision to expand. Your announcement will also be accepted as clear demonstration that within the Detroit motor industry, Maxwell will be a full manufacturer, not simply an assembler of vehicles."

"The car industry in this country has itself made great progress in recent years in its manufacturing efficiency. You and they have to operate in a fiercely competitive international market. I know, however, that it is Maxwell's intention to apply the latest technology, both in your products and in your plant and machinery. You bring with you too, your traditional strengths in the managing and organizing of the production process. These assets will, I am confident, ensure that you prosper. The Government has been delighted to work with you in this enterprise, and I look forward to seeing further success."

"I congratulate Maxwell on its decision and I congratulate all employees of Maxwell Detroit for the part they have played in bringing this venture to reality. I wish Maxwell Detroit a prosperous and profitable and happy future. And it is now that I will cut the ceremonial ribbon which will signify the formal opening of the new Maxwell Detroit Plant and it is a very proud and happy moment for me to do so."

Republic of the Philippines (Republika ng Pilipinas)

Legislative Building, Manila, Philippines
President Ramon Magsaysay stood at the front of the gathered Congress. He was out of breath, his heart beating rapidly, his face flushed with sweat. He had just finished delivering a passionate speech, stressing the importance of defeating the Communist guerrillas who were plaguing the countrysides. He had just revealed an ambitious plan to this end, and he was waiting for the reactions of the congressmen who all had different inclinations regarding his chosen course of action.

However, in the end, it would not matter what their reactions would be. He was not proposing, he was revealing. What he needed was not their agreement, but their support. He was a dictator, after all, despite his benevolence.

To Magsaysay's relief, the gathered politicians erupted into a loud applause, signifying their acceptance of his plan. For too long, in fact for more than a decade now, the Communists, calling themselves the New People's Army, had terrorized the poor populations of the countryside, brainwashing them into joining their cause and harming those who refused. They even had the audacity to conduct terrorist attacks within the urban population centers, sending suicide bombers and death squads to target the helpless citizens. The Armed Forces of the Philippines were doing their best to destroy these insurgents, but a decisive blow had not yet been dealt. The people were waiting for action from the government, and it came in the form of this plan. It was the intention of this plan to strike that decisive blow, destroying the Communists and bringing peace to the country.

Ramon Magsaysay had now sown the seeds for the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization, and it was up to the nations of the world to help it grow. The mission of this organization is simple: Destroy Communism in Asia.

The Alamo
1:00 PM

A small crowd of nearly sixty reporters would arrive in front of the ruins of The Alamo Church where a podium bearing the seal of The Texan President had been set up just hours before the scheduled speech was to begin. The camera crews clamored to set up various angles of the scene for it had been projected that President John Connally would be making a special announcement about the state of The Texan Republic. Reporters and make up crews would gossip as they made sure that their on air appearances were kept conservative. It was 1:30 PM when the Presidential Limo pulled up to the staging area for the speech as members of the security detail urged everyone to take their seats. The President would walk on stage at exactly 1:40 PM with his wife, Nellie Connally, by his side. The president wore a basic suit with a blue tie and a Texan flag lapel pinned confidently to the jackets collar. He carried with him a thin binder that he set on the podium. Connally would then open the binder, glance at it, and then focus his attention on the camera crews. He spoke with a friendly light hearted tone.

"Ladies and gentleman, it is my honor to address you today outside of the historic Alamo Church. It was here that, in February and March of 1836, a band of a little under 200 plucky revolutionaries fought held off the Mexican Forces under Santa Anna for thirteen grueling days. Members of this plucky group included such legendary names as James Bowie, William Travis, and Davy Crocket. All three of those legendary figures of myth died right here where we are standing today. It is taught to every Texan child that these men repeatedly called for aid from the United States but were met with little more than complete silence. All 200 some of those men were slain by Santa Anna whilst the US Government remained silent. In reaction to this, the men of Texas flocked to the army of Sam Houston who would heroically defeat Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jancito. The men who fought in this battle would yell the following immortal phrase as they brought a swift death to the Mexican Tyranny.... Remember the Alamo.... Nearly 100 years later, the United States would reject Texas once more and so we rejected them. Once more we were free from the chains of Liberty and could decide our own destiny. Today, that destiny is strong and is becoming even stronger. The Texas Economy is booming through new methods of oil and natural gas acquisition, the expansion of scientific programs such as those related to space flight in Houston, and the expansion of ranches and farms. The Texan people are likewise prospering under this robust economy that we have now developed ith taxes being the lowest they have been in the past decade. It is my honor to further announce that our first offshore drilling site will be opening within the next month. This site will add thousands of dollars of revenue into the Texas economy and will further create an unlimited amount of jobs as a side effect of the new production. Thank you for your time here today. My secretary of the press will be taking questions within the next thirty minutes. God Bless you and God Bless The Republic of Texas!"

Commandant Ciarán "Crack" O'Donnell
O'Donnell's #3 Flying column ("Crack's flying column"), 1st West-Cork Brigade
1st of January 1964, 2:03 AM GMT
An Pasáiste Thoir (Passage east), Contae Phort Láirge (County Waterford)

Ciarán's eyes tried to stay open while he watched the beautiful river Barrow. He and his flying column of 68 men were to cross this river by boat, and then move up to the small Irish town of Ceann Poill, which is about an hour and a half's walk away. His boys had been driven up to here by three civilian trucks, "donated" to the IRA by members of the public. The trucks were marked with chalk. An tArm symbols and lucky clovers, as well as insults towards the tans had been scribbled over it. The men were sitting there, casually, waiting for sympathetic civilians to deliver their boats. O'Donnell had ordered O'Malley, Bourke, O'Brien, Kelly and Lenehan out to cover their flanks.

Ciarán leaned against a tree, and attentively watched over the soldiers in his flying column, who mostly sat on the ground. He saw something in the corner of his eye, and it enraged him. O'Donnell got up, pulled the
Colt .45 1911 out of his holster, and slung it towards the young man. "Fuck's sake, Whelan" he said in his mind. His finger was not on the trigger, but the gun was loaded and ready to fire. The commandant stared the recruit down while jogging over to him, and hissed at him, as silent as he could: "Whelan, get that fucking fag out your mouth! You're giving the huns something to shoot at here! Last thing I want is that some tan battery starts firing on our position. The recruit quickly spat out the cigarette and threw it onto the ground, before putting it out with his boot. Commandant O'Donnell thought for one moment, and then harshly struck the boy with his pistol. The strike landed on his helmet, a donated German Stahlhelm, and it gave the boy quite a shock. O'Donnell put the safety on his semi back on, and forced the "steel bastard" back into his holster.

"If I see you fucking up one more time, Whelan, the strike will hit you proper, proper I tell you!" he said, whispering with an enraged voice. He turned his back on Whelan, and peeked up at enlisted men who were staring at him out of shock. He walked past his assisting sergeant-major, and started ranting:

"Who's Whelan's fucking section commander? I can't tolerate this fucking behaviour, Seán. These NCOs can't be sitting on their arse all day, Seán. Get it fixed." he said, in a speedy manner, not even looking at his sergeant major and shaking his head. He walked back over to his tree, and his face quickly turned to a smile, when he saw 10-some boats crossing down the river, cloaked by the night. He saw the first boat landing, and saw an old friend of his, a civilian who had helped the IRA before. "Gerry, you old prick, happy to see you again!" O'Donnell whispered, nearly talking half-loudly. The civilian only laughed and shook O'Donnell's hand, before they started ferrying the troops over. The boats had to go back and forth three times, before the civilians could sail off again. O'Donnell was in the second wave, and looked out into the forest, to see whether a tan had spotted them. A few minutes pass, and all troops are ferried over succesfully. O'Donnell then thanks his old friend, and the fishermen from An Pasáiste Thoir quietly sail back through the fog.

It was very ironic, as the anglos were the first to land at Passage East. Now the IRA were sailing over the river, ready to force the Brits out of the place that they had arrived at. Irony, however, was not what this flying column wanted to achieve. Their upmost goal was the destruction of infrastructure, or the planting of bombs in the city of Wexford. This was not the only IRA column that was out in the Irish countryside in the dead of night. Others were ambushing logistics trucks, executing RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) members or collecting "taxes" from the civilian population. O'Donnell, lost in his own thoughts, woke up and ordered his troop to march through the swampy forests of southern county Wexford. Some men hummed Oró sé do bheatha 'bhaile, an Irish soldier's song sung in the Irish War of Independence. O'Donnell allowed it, and hummed with the men in his head. He felt that giving the men the permission to hum a song would make morale bearable. He would stop them if they started singing it, as he felt that was too loud, but the men kept humming it for about four minutes, before they stopped and marched through the fog in complete silence.

The right honourable Minister Frank Aiken
Minister for external affairs and trade
2nd of January 1964, 11:23 AM GMT.
Corcaigh (Cork), Contae Chorcaí (County Cork)

Aiken sat in his office, quite thrilled by the idea of an American businessman entering his little office in this provisional government building, ready to sell him armoured cars. The minister got up and walked towards a glass tablet opposite of his desk, and poured himself a glass of whiskey, to easen his nerves. He took a big swig, when his assistant came in and told him that the American businessman had arrived, and that he was waiting to enter.

"The yank's fifteen minutes early? What the fuck is he up to?" Aiken foolishly said, not watching himself.

The assistant just raised her shoulders, and went "Would you like me to let him in, sir? I doubt he'll be very happy sitting about for fifteen minutes."

Frank placed his hand on his face, and managed to squeeze out a reluctant "A-Aye, Mary. Let the man in."

Minister Frank Aiken quickly threw the whiskey out of the window behind his desk chair, and ate, devoured, rather, a peppermint as quick as he could. He then sat down behind his wooden desk, and waited for the door to open. His assistant opened the door, and in he came, the big American fellow from Detroit (Either a representative of the company or mr. Maxwell himself, your choice).

"Welcome to Ireland sir!" Aiken rose from his seat, and walked over to the American to shake his hand. "Well-met sir, Aiken's the name!" he said, in a jovial manner while offering his hand.

Private three star Brian O'Malley
2nd Rifle Section, O'Donnell's #3 Flying column ("Crack's flying column"), 1st West-Cork Brigade
1st of January 1964, 3:52 AM GMT
Ceann Poill (Campile), Contae Loch Garman (County Wexford)

O'Malley had been walking around with a .303 Lewis Gun over his left shoulder for more than an hour and a half. His brimmer hat was drenched in sweat, and he tried to watch through the fog, waiting for some Tan to fire at their column. He turned himself to O'Doherty, a comrade of his, when he said: "Way this march's going, I'd rather have the commandant throw me in front o' twenty prods and leave me and my loud gun to it, not walk through miles upon miles of marsh and forest… " Sergeant O'Leary walked behind Brian, and immediately answered with: "O'Malley, shut your whore mouth. We'll be thrown before twenty tans if you continue talking like a mindless fucking fool." in Irish. O'Malley, who wasn't as fluent in Irish as O'Leary, shut his mouth, feeling embarassed by the fact that he could only somewhat understand and read Irish, not speak it properly.

The lads then moved up to ancient ruins, erected by Vikings about a thousand years ago. The Commandant stopped, and ordered the men to stand in three ranks. O'Malley stood all the way at the back, which wasn't great for him, as he was only 5'6. He could hardly understand a word, and, after a minute or so, had no clue what to do. He just followed O'Doherty. Who sat down and started cleaning his Gewehr 43, or "G-43", sometimes also known as "Gobshite-forty-three" among IRA members and Irish servicemen.

O'Doherty removed the Stahlhelm from his head, and stared at O'Malley. "Are you not going to do anything, or what are you staring at?" O'Malley snapped, and woke up. "Go'on, clean your gonne or go to sleep, don't stand there and stare at me." O'Doherty told him.

O'Malley was very tired, took off his brimmer and laid himself on the cold floor of the viking ruin, laying his black hat on a rock, to make his "pillow" just a little bit more comfortable. He took his thick winter coat, and laid it over himself. His sergeant passed him, and asked whether he needed an extra blanket, but O'Malley was too tired to answer, and let out a sound comparable to "nuhmm", before tumbling to sleep while other men defended the "camp".

The Empire of Japan

Emperor Showa
Location: Training Grounds in one for the Home Islands

"Imperial Majesty," General Iwashita announced as his chest swelled with pride. "That was the performance of the new Howa Battle rifle."

The Japanese Emperor was undoubtedly impressed. How could he not? The soldiers testing the new rifle had scored 80% accuracy at the targets they were shooting at. Nearly all the bullets were near or around the bullseye at ranges from 300 - 400 meters. The rifle may not have the same fire rate as other contemporary rifles from the other nations, but hopefully, the Howa rifle will be more accurate to the rest of them.

Let the Soviets have their AK-47s, the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere will make a rival out of the Howa.

"I would want you to perform another week of testing, a month if you have to, to examine its durability before I order full production of this new infantry weapon." Emperor Hirohito ordered General Iwashita.

"Yes, Imperial Majesty." the General bowed before turning back to continue training his men.

"I'm not convinced that 20 round box magazine will be enough." the Emperor Hirohito confined to one of his aides and military advisors while they made their way around the training grounds examining the recruits. "Even the German assault rifle has 30 bullets."

"Do not worry about the ammunition size." the aide assures. "If necessary, you can bring the topic up at Imperial General Headquarters to voice your concerns."

"That I may have to do." The Emperor remarked.

The Imperial General Headquarters
The three branches of the Japanese military as will as the Ministry of War and Navy was present in this meeting discussing the current situation of Japan and proposing wartime against California, Soviet Union and Communist China, Republic of China, and SouthEast Asia. The situation was balanced, too balanced for their liking.

Across the Pacific, with California in possession of nuclear weapons, war with them would be costly. The Navy does not want another bomb dropped on one of their fleets again. Hawaii would have to wait.

In the Southeast Asia, it would be easy pickings to secure rubber and some oil deposits in the Dutch East Indies and Malaysia as well as finding allies in Indochina and Siam. The Philippines, with their growing anti communist stance, would greatly aid Japan in its fight against the USSR. AT least that was the plan.

For Republic of China, conquest was needed but with a communist presence ever more apparent, some are proposing to bring the ROC into the Co-Prosperity sphere as allies against the PRC, even if it was temporary.

In Manchukuo, colonization was going swimmingly but that was not their concern. it was defense. Everyone in the room knows how much men the USSR can pour into East Asia and how modern their tanks are. Due to the limited resources Japan has at its disposal, the Imperial General headquarters debated on whether or not Japan should focus on building better tanks or creating better AT weapons for the infantry. After spending considerable time building a series of bunkers, pill boxes, trenches, and fortifications all along the Manchukuo-Soviet border, AT guns would keep the Red Tide at bay in a defensive war.

For Communist China, everything was done to prevent insurgencies coming across the border yet the Communist Chinese too had access to Soviet tanks, even if it was a bit outdated.

Armor superiority and numerical advantage of the Comintern are worrying aspects, placing ever greater importance on the Imperial Japanese Airforce to provide air cover and ground support. Already the conversation shifted to the Airforce's grand designs of jets armed with AT missiles and cannons to deal with Soviet armor and mechanized units.

Until the Emperor returns, the Imperial General Headquarters continued talks on the state of the Japanese military.
There is no such thing as peace, only truce between wars

The Volkshalle Peoples Address

Chancellor Remer Stood at perfect attention, along with other government leaders on the grand stage at the center of the Volkshalle.
"My comrades, we are in a struggle on behalf of all mankind. The word itself should mean something completely different to all of us today, we cannot be consumed by our petty differences anymore. The German peoples future is secure, but only if the future of all free men is secure as well. We must be united in our common objectives, were are not fighting against prosecution or banishment, but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live, to exist. And it will take everything the free world has to see us threw. It will take all of us, Germans, Poles, Czechs, Finns, Swedes, Norwegians, Danes, Hungarians, Romanians, Slovenians, Croats, Serbs, Albanians, Bosnians, Montenegrin's, Bulgarians, Greeks, Italians, Macedonians, Frenchmen, Spaniards, Portuguese, Brits, Irish, Dutch, Belgians, Americans, Canadians and many, many more.

The free world and Europe in particular must leave is past grudges behind. I speak now specifically of the age of animosity that has existed between the people of Germany and the people of France. We must heal this division if the peoples of Europe are to resist the tide of communism. Europe must be united, and by the will of the people and the will of god it shall be!"

Military Assistant Directive #26
By order of the Reich Minister of Foreign Affairs, The Reich will expand its anti-communist efforts across the world, to any nation or organisation, opening up larger amounts of weapons and equipment available for aid and even the Deployment of certain SS Battalions based on necessity and severity.

Mohiana Capitol Building - Downtown Detroit

Morning

After an unappetizing breakfast in the lobby, Governor Levitan walked through a large office floor filled with secretaries and telephone operators. There was a particular trading floor-like ambiance to the room as phones ring, typewriters click, and people shout to others across the floor. After traveling through what was referred to in the Capitol as the 'trenches', Bob made his way down a quiet hallway which led to a receptionist's desk, and a thick wooden door with a brass name plate.

"Morning, Eloise."

"Good morning, Mr. Governor. Secretary Hollohan is waiting inside." she responded.

"Thank you, no calls."

Levitan shut the door and sat at his desk, Outside, a light snow was following. A short, roundish, forty-year-old Secretary of the Interior stands patiently alone surveying the room. He is quiet, perfectly composed, waiting. He is Harry Hollohan.

"What could possibly be so important on a Wednesday?" Levitan questioned. Hollohan turned around to face Bob, and walked swiftly to the desk.

"Look," Harry held up a newspaper which Levitan promptly grabbed. It was the front page of the Detroit Examiner. The headline emblazoned with: “Germany Calls World to Fight Against Communism” - the photo displaying Chancellor Remer at the Volkshalle People's Address. As Levitan read the article with close inspection, he managed to formulate a response:

"There's nothing keeping the public out of the question anymore, we're going to have to act..."

"I'm afraid it's our only choice at this point. Voters are going to expect you to respond," Harry explained.

"There's never an easy decision when it comes to addressing the world's most advanced military is there?..." Levitan asked melodramatically, yet nonetheless pained. He took another look at the newspaper.

"I suppose there's never really an easy decision with foreign relations, Bob." Harry said hesitantly.

"I'll have to consult with secretary Andrews, but I'd say that it's in our best interest to keep Remer happy."

"Are you saying what I think you're saying?"

"Do we really have a choice? If we discredit his statements, how long until we're next on the invasion table? At least if we support him, we don't risk annihilation." Bob expressed.

"I suppose they've never really instigated any problems with us, but it still begs the question of-" Harry was quick to respond before being cut off.

"Precisely, and I intend to keep it that way. Regardless of how much we intend to protect our civil liberties, communism is just as much a threat here as it is in Europe..."

"Well I can't argue with that..." Harry said with a tentative feeling.

"Good. Then it's settled. Close the door on your way out, please." Bob said before he returned to work. He stared outside the window for a moment. The snowy tops of Motor-City highrises were almost cemetery like. He opened up his desk and placed some fine diplomatic stationary on the desk pad. And took out his best pen. Levitan hesitated. He turned to his paper again. It almost seemed to look back at him, expressionless. Levitan hopped onto his feet, pacing around the mahogany desk. He was muttering different salutations and friendly openings to himself. He paused.

"Don't be schmaltzy, Bobby. Keep it simple"

Subject: Correspondance

Reichskanzler Otto Remer,

May I first display my utmost regards to your wonderful speech at The Volkshalle Peoples Address. At this time in the world, it goes without saying that Communism is a threat to us all. That being said, my administration would like to personally offer our support in your efforts to prevent the further spread of communism. I agree whole heartedly that the free world must find a way to reconcile from past disagreements, because resistance of the worlds biggest modern threat to liberty requires us all to put forth our efforts in a diplomatic way. I send my warmest regards for good health, and may both our nations thrive.

Yours respectfully,

Robert Levitan

New England, Boston

Harold Sturenberger found it rather odd, on how many times he fixed his old wrist-watch - the old thing still kept breaking down and not working at all. Even if many watchmakers had told him it was getting old and to buy a new one at that. Still, the annoying thing could at least keep some things in check. Especially in New England - where efficiency was everything. Still there had been many things, that the former Austro-Hungarian man had witnessed in the world - he had been barely eighteen, when the great Habsburg Empire had fallen and then torn apart - failing both due to their own bloated bureaucracy and weight. It would be only five years later - that he had seen his new home, ironically the same country that had advocated for the carving of his former homeland, begun to collapse itself. This time again under their own weight and economic failure.

A mere ten years later, and the United States of America was no longer united - and the former union manager had found himself in New England and helping in many ways to organize the likely first 'technocratic' state in the world. In a way, he had been drawn to the ideals of the Technocratic Movement - no more basis on emotional or some pseudo-religious sense of righteousness - just hard facts and logic. They spoke the same tone that the socialists and nationalists had been spouting - they offered a way, they showed them the enemy and they rallied the people against the old order. Still in a way - 'the more things change, the more they stay the same'.

Their Technocratic Project ran awry, in the earlier years already - since while new ideas could be formed, the human condition still couldn't be that easily changed. Some ideas had to be cut, some had to be removed, others changed - as people couldn't be changed overnight and in a way - they didn't want to mimic the experiments in Russia, that ended with thousands up to millions dead according to reports. Thus in a way, the old system of democracy remained - if a bit changed. The old three-system of the United States had been removed, as such a thing had caused political entrenchment, gridlock and much easier chance of bribery. More parties were allowed to compete, an executive leader elected with political cooperation and not political rivalry and importantly - politicians with knowledge, not connections.

Harold found it a bit silly to imagine, of politicians happening without connections. While it was true, that the New England Constitution demanded anyone competing for office - to have a level of experience in a respective field of science and/or engineering - the translation of it could be applied multiple ways. Since after all, the Courts were chosen into by the Senate - and such 'experience' could be demanded as either a degree, years of work or both - depending on the circumstance and position. He himself, had earned his current position by working for years in the Technocratic Party of America - organizing paperwork and working as Vice-Secretary of Transportation. His union career in a motor plant giving him both the prestige and experience to be finally elected into the position of Chancellor in 1961. Although, that came at the price of having to work the PPJ.

It was an ironic sentiment - that when things worked perfectly, nobody paid it much attention. But when things didn't work well, people criticized without end. The TPA-controlled government had seen it's first drop - since having dominated the Senate and Chancellorship for almost twenty-five years. Although the economy had slowed a bit a the start of the 60s. Many smaller parties and the FLP had gained enough seats, that the TPA couldn't rule alone - thus they had needed to work with the PPJ. A mostly German-dominated party, that were eager to establish closer ties with the reigning power of the world - the German Reich. While Harold had neither love nor hate for the Germans - he had listened more than most other Chancellors to their proposals. Being a former Austro-Hungarian himself, with deeper roots on the Austrian side. The PPJs policy of 'national technocracy' had been rather radical to some, bordering on populism almost. But they always found a way or reason to explain their policies - an ethno-state would work, since less people to please, meant more unity to function. A thing, that as a former union manager he hated to agree upon.

Thus, it was not a surprise when the Vice-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, one from the PPJ - and handed him a letter. Once more, it was a request from the People' Party for Justice to establish official military cooperation with the German Reich - especially, as rumors were circulated about the Reich beginning a policy of aiding anyone against the communist menace. Plus there was the whole speech of Chancellor Remer - whom called up anyone and everyone to stand together - likely under German authority.

To: German Reich
From: Republic of New England
Subject: Military Cooperation
Encryption: Enigma

Dear, Chancellor Remer.

While the Republic of New England, doesn't favor ideals of antagonizing rivals or deliberately trying to threaten another sovereign nation, based on their ideology - we do see the necessity of increasing cooperation between the various nations of the world. It is no secret, that there are many socialist countries in the world - that are intentionally undermining the sovereignty of other states and of their own people.

While New England does maintain a policy of non-aggression, we aren't against pre-emptive cooperation to ward off any potential adversary. Not to mention, a good portion of my coalition partners - have desired to establish a deeper connection with the country of their origin.

We would be more than happy to discuss further ideas in the future.

Signed, Chancellor Sturenberger.

Private three star Brian O'Malley
2nd Rifle Section, O'Donnell's #3 Flying column ("Crack's flying column"), 1st West-Cork Brigade
2nd of January 1964, 2:13 PM GMT
Woods south of Muileann Fúca (Foulkesmill), Contae Loch Garman (County Wexford)

"The tans were gut, taken out 'n shot, taken out..." the men mumbled. O'Malley quietly sang "The Rifles of the IRA" with his column mates. He could see the captain all the way at the front of the column, with his black brimmer and his Sam Browne belt peeking over his right shoulder. He looked at O'Doherty, who held his captured RIC Lee Enfield before him. O'Malley felt that his shoulder hurt, due to the heavy and stupidly bulky Lewis Gun sinking into his shoulder. He turned his face towards his support gunner, and asked him:

"Donna-kah? Could you carry the Lewis Gun for a moment? My shoulder's aching like hell." he sounded desperate, and somewhat in pain, but Donnchadh O'Doherty just kept walking, with the German Stahlhelm tilted slightly before his eyes. He opened his mouth, and spat at the ground, before answering:

"It's pronounced duunn-uck-kah." Brian looked at his support gunner, waiting, with an enthusiastic and happy face, for permission to give O'Doherty the machinegun. "You Saxon prick.", O'Doherty said, before shutting his mouth and looking straight. O'Malley felt cheated and sad, but just decided to walk, as this shouldn't be such a long walk anymore, right? They were bound to take a break somewhere. He began thinking:

"I wonder what Sharon and Ma're doing back home. Reckon they're all good in Kerry. There's no tans there anyw-"

Brian's thoughts stopped, he heard his column commander shouting, and tried to listen clearly. Before he could make out anything, Donnchadh had pulled Brian into the ditch next to him. He tried to focus. He could hear engines, and tried to look around. The sun was shining, and you could hear section commanders shouting at their men to take off their helmets, as the reflections could give their positions away. Donnchadh quickly took off the bulky helmet, and stole Brian's brimmer, so that his ginger wouldn't be spotted so easily. Brian tried to look up, and could see an aeroplane in the corner of his eye. Donnchad had to pull him down again, and told him that if he'd move, he'd do specific things to him, things that I will not get into here. Brian closed his eyes, and the voices around him faded in his head. The only thing he could hear was a small peep through his ears, and small 'explosions' in his head, that appeared to get louder and louder. "boom, boom, boom, Boom, BOOM!"

Éamonn de Valera
President of Ireland
2nd of January 1964, 2:23 PM GMT
Cork City hall, provisional headquarters of the government of the Republic of Ireland, County Cork

The glass in Dev's glass shuddered. Bombs? English aerial attacks on Cork? Artillery? Surely not. Cork hadn't been touched by tans since the forties. The "rebel city" as some began to call her, wouldn't succumb now.

Dev looked at Michael Collins, discussing military tactics with Seán Mac Eoin and Seán MacBride of the Ailtirí na hAiséirghe. He was always a man of rhetoric, even in his older years. He'd been a political opponent of Dev's for some time, but Éamonn decided to make peace with Mick, for Éire's sake.

Dev decided to jump into the conversation, saying: "We're drafting a letter to herr Eckard Altermann, the minister of foreign affairs of the German Reich. It's best to bargain with something. MacBride, have you checked on your flying column? Are there any SS-volunteers?

The political activist and soldier looked up to De Valera, a man who despised because of his centrist views. "Aye, sir. We've got about ten to twenty volunteers in my old flying column. All good men, I assure you. Only problem is that the lads don't know a single word of German."

Dev nodded, quietly, and turned towards Aiken, his cabinet minister. Get on that typewriter, Aiken. We're wiring Berlin." Aiken turned around, and moved into his own office in the HQ. Dev turned himself towards Michael Collins, who had been smoking a cigarette above the crudely drawn map of Ireland. He pointed at Wexford on the map, and looked at De Valera. "Now, Dev, this is where our Cork boys'll be going. Last thing the huns want is for us to blow up their roads, barracks and ships. Who knows? Maybe there's a rusting destroyer in the port, waiting for some satchel?" Mick laughed and dragged the fag from his mouth. He looked over to De Valera, who was not smiling. "Have we heard anything of them boys? Don't tell me that you've sent a blind column to Wexford, Mick." Collins laughed, and exclaimed: "This war's a war of luck and deceit, Dev. Those boys should only be about an hour away from Wexford now. They're Irish, they'll manage."

The Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan border control
A sedan rolled up to the checkpoint and rolled down the window. A Syrian man poked his head out of the window. The soldier sitting at his post got up and walked up to window while another searched the boot;
"Assalamualakium brothers, hard day at work?" The Syrian smiled, but was disappointed in not receiving a reply back from either. When the second soldier gave the all clear signal to the first, he began to talk "Why are you here sir, haven't you heard the new rule? No Syrian immigrants are allowed in the country." The soldier bellowed in a deep emotionless voice. The driver was quite the opposite, a mix of anger and sadness threw his face around like a boomerang before being able to muster a reply; "but look, I'm legal and everything, I have a business all over the Middle East, please just let me in!" He began crying but the soldier was having none of it, instead of feeling sympathetic at all he instead decided to feed his curiosity "why are you even here? What's wrong with Syria?" The Syrian man stopped weeping and composed himself enough to answer; "These French bastards, 4th republic or whatever, they destroyed everything we once had! If only we could have rebelled as early as when you did." The second soldier walked up to the first and examined the situation before coming to the same solution as the first soldier "Syrian immigrants are not accepted any more, please return to your country or we will have to use force." The face of pleading and rebellion dissolved into acceptance, the man gripped his hands on the wheel but instead of turning back he throttled forward breaking through the barrier. The soldiers were quick to get over what happened and fired at the car as it drove off. One of the bullets hit a tyre which made the car swerve out of control flipping twice before deviating off the road and exploding. The driver had no chance. One soldier sighed as he watched the extravagant show of flames, he turned round to the other "Syria just signed their death wish." The second soldier nodded disappearing into the checkpoint building to inform command what had happened.
Amman, Jordan
It was only hours later that the king received the story, his face was blatantly disappointed. He reluctantly took the telephone and dialled his military strategists. When they arrived he addressed them "The Syrian border issue will not be tolerated, after this meeting i will be sending a telegram to the Syrian president to address this issue or to be met with a declaration of war, now if we are told by the Syrians that they have chosen the latter and that they are ready for war we will need to be prepared and so I am demanding a buildup of 20,000 troops in the next month. We shall increase the number up to 40,000 at the end of march. I also would like a section of Amman airport to be under martial law and all air units transferred there as soon as possible. This is tense situation for Jordan, its time to test your skills gentlemen. Now onto the map. We should employ a full front line since our capital is too close to begin counterattacking at once. Once we gain say... As Sawayda" He shuffled through his desk and found a copy of the map of Syria. "Once we can gain a foothold in As sawayda we can encircle Damascus, which we could bomb into submission. After the Government falls apart we may need to mop up resistance/ remaining fighters in the region." General Al Hafiz pictured his plan on the map with the marble pieces. The king nodded "Great! We shall do that then, any questions? I will try and get a European nation to help us in funding not that we need it, just in case, alright then, dismissed!" The generals exited in a single file from the Kings office as he began on the telegram to Syria;
To: The president of Syria
From: The hashemite kingdom of Jordan
Your promises to crackdown on Syrians flocking to the Jordanian border has not been fulfilled, this is the last telegram of warning before the glorious King al Hussein declares war between our two nations. We have experienced 348 cases in the past month to do with your citizens trying to immigrate after ban. You have 2 months to respond before war engulfs your nation.

The Quebecois Republic

"Faites attention! Faites attention! Le Marshall est là!"

In a sudden change of events, the General Staff of the Quebecois Nationale Gendarmerie was convened into the NGB Valcartier military base just north of the capital. The general assembly was called to attention as La Maréchaux quickly bolted into the room, with Safeguardsmen jogging behind.

"La situation se développe au Moyen-Orient."

A translator coughed and repeated the words,

"There is an unfolding situation in the Middle East."

La Maréchaux called his top generals and police leaders into a improvised military assembly that he himself was late for to discuss the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's irrational threats of war against the Syrian state. Syria, although distant over the most recent years, was at one point a cordial ally of the Quebecois during their war for independance. La Maréchaux called his best minds here today to discuss whether it was worth repaying the favour.

At one end of the room, Staff Officer's of the Safeguard were already drawing up plans for intervention and counter-invasion. Men at arms who are always prepared for the worst.

At the other, politicians of La Parti Quebecois opted for a more... diplomatically acceptable resolution.

After many hours of argument, on both an optimal invasion plan centered at Amman, and a diplomatic incentive to securing Syrian liberty, La Maréchaux opted against Quebecois intervention into the Middle East, and against guaranteeing the Syrian state, leaving nobody happy.

As such, the Quebecois decided for leaving a strongly worded public condemnation of any militarization against the Syrian state from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The Quebecois probably weren't to keen on fighting a war miles from hope, La Maréchaux knew this was the correct choice of action.

The assembly continued to debate and argue through as La Maréchaux sent a telegram to Safeguard Headquarters in Montreal. He kept his executive decision to himself for now.

King al Hussein was infuriated at the condemnation, did these Quebecois republic officials really think they could intervene in a war that Jordan had a complete justified reason to wage. The Syrians were ignoring the fact that their country was invading Jordan with migrants. He kept his cool, instead of doing anything drastic he wrote a telegram to the The Quebecois Republic trying to explain the situation;

To:The Quebecois Republic
From: The Hashemite of Jordan
The Syrian swine have had their immigrants flooding into our country for ages, we have asked politely many times to try and crack down on their immigration by doing something to keep people in their own country but time and time again. We cannot feed or provide shelter for any more immigrants and its time to put an end to it. Taking the country would give us a chance to care for the Syrian people under a stable government, we just want the best for them. It is the only way we can achieve a win win situation with the lowest cost.

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

Palace of Soviets, City of Moscow, Russian SSR

Boleslav Katin, People's Minister of Foreign Affairs looked troubled as he thought back to the documents that passed over his desk in an orderly manner during the morning. The world was shifting the fascist Reich in the west that jockeyed with the USSR for power and influence was making moves, rattling cages. This could not be allowed to pass unchallenged. Like the Premier and General Secretary, Katin was a staunch Externalist and Trotskyist firmly believing that the Soviet Union must do all in it's power to support international revolution and the overthrow of international capitalism, Katin was a key member of the General Secretary's inner circle. Now, he had to act, he had to show the world that the USSR would not be cowed by the western degenerates, be they fascist or capitalist. The Soviet ambassador to Berlin, Larion Zinchenko would send the German Foreign Ministry and the Reichkanzler a message expressing deep Soviet dissatisfaction, the belligerent and provocative positions of the Reich and it's seeming commitment to the intensification of the international tensions was blatantly obvious and intolerable while his colleagues across the continent and the world would do similar things in the nations they were stationed.

But words had to be backed up with actions, the Syrian Ba'athist government, while not a member of the Comintern had like the other Ba'athist nations of the Middle-East warm relations with the USSR and other Comintern nations had just half a day earlier been threatened by the Jordanians. This would not stand, the Soviet Union would make a show of force in the Middle East, a public display of it's continued support of nations closely aligned with the Comintern would probably be enough for the Jordanians to back down. At the same time a letter of support would be sent to the Syrian government, offering material aid, training assistance.

Soviet address to the Governments of the World

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is needless to say, appalled and very deeply concerned with the belligerent rhetoric of the Reich and wishes to see an immediate redaction of the statements in the Reichkanzler's address. The Reich seems set to further destabilize the global situation and manipulate it's neighbors in Europe to fall under the fascist boot so Germany may safeguard it's illegitimate occupation of French, Polish, Austrian, Czech and Danish soil. The enemy of Europe, be it the nations of Eastern Europe or Western Europe seems not to be the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, but the imperialist fascist teutons who have rotted the German nation positioned in the very heart of European continent. It is the sincere hope of the General Secretary and the Soviet people that national governments across the world rebuke these jingoistic statements and commit to de-escalation in ongoing conflict areas.

I have the honour to be Boleslav Katin, Soviet People's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Soviet Ultimatum to the Jordanian Government

Your Majesty.

I speak for the General Secretary, the Presidium and every man, woman in child not only in the Soviet Union, but in all the nations of the Comintern when I express my utter disgust at the actions undertaken by your government, with your very own blessing. I hereby issue to you an ultimatum to immediately declare the demand issued to the Syrian government as null and void, to issue a formal diplomatic apology to the Syrian government and withdraw all troops at least fifty kilometers away from the Syrian border. If your government does not comply with these demands within 24 hours, or begins military operations against the Syrian Republic the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics shall take the actions needed to make sure that any war against Syria ends in the total defeat of the Hashemite Kingdom.

I have the honour to be Boleslav Katin, Soviet People's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Soviet message to the Syrian Government

Most Dear President

The Soviet Union expresses it's full support for the lawful Syrian government in this time of uncertainty. Truly few have worked with such admirable dedication to bring peace and prosperity to a region of the world in desperate need of it and to oppose the forces of corruption and terror with the wisdom and strength needed to fight such terrible and archetypal enemies. You have not only our full moral support but the Soviet Union also stands ready to provide Syria with material aid in the forms of arms, supplies, munitions, aircraft and military vehicles along with trained specialists to aid your soldiers in learning how to operate the heavier and more advanced equipment sent. Rest assured, the Soviet Union will stand steadfast at Syria's side in this time of crisis.

I have the honour to be Boleslav Katin, Soviet People's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The king was even more disgusted by the soviet threats to arm the uncivilised Syrians that couldn't even keep its own citizens but alas the Jordanian army did not have the power to fight against the supply train of the Soviets. However he would not allow the immigration flush to continue, instead he would reach an agreement with them to try and get a settlement. Maybe Jordan would have some land for accepting such large quantities of Syrian immigrants, if the soviet union rejects an ultimatum that credits Jordan for its efforts then it would launch its offensive against Syria and would fight any enemy that would stand in its way. He wrote back;
To: The Union of Socialist
From: The hashemite kingdom of Jordan
All though it is not in our best interests that you support such a pitiful civilisation we respect your decision, however, for our efforts in caring for the flood of immigrants we expect some kind of land from the in order to keep the peace between our two nations. If not, we are willing to declare war with Syria under your aid We will move our troops back temporarily but if you do not meet our requirements we can move them right back.

Evening

"We interrupt your regularly scheduled broadcast for a special TV-15 News Bulletin. We have received word from authorities that tank-led Jordanian armies drove to within four miles of the Syrian border early today and reports from the front said highly equipped defense forces were able to put up "almost no resistance" from the country's administration. The Mohianan cabinet went into emergency session tonight amid rumors that the city of As Suwayda may face imminent invasion if the Syrian president does not make immediate strides to remedy what has been generally conceded to be a cascading series of harmful diplomatic situations regarding the border between Jordan and Syria. Correspondants with direct and seasoned knowledge of the region's politics have warned that a military annexation of As Suwayda could possibly lead to an easy takeover of larger cities such as Damascus, in the southwestern part of the middle eastern country.'

"At the Mohiana Embassy in Damascus, where most of the Mohiana nationals living in Damascus have gone, officials were burning codes and secret documents in preparation for hasty evacuation that was ordered three-quarters of an hour ago from the Governor. The city was quiet, with limited panic reported as Syrians hope for a prompt political solution. Extra forces patrolled the streets as Mohiana diplomatic forces were placed on Worldwide Stage-2 Alert. All diplomats and female consulate staff who had not been previously evacuated were being moved to the northern part of the country to await transport west. Army sources said the Jordanian commandoes committed to at least five full divisions totalling at least 3000 troops, supported by artillery outmatching that of the Syrians in both range and caliber. Tonight the tanks leading the northern forces toward the 32nd Parallel had pushed within 25 miles of As Suwayda, stopping short of the border. Republic of the Philippines (Republika ng Pilipinas)

Office of the President, Malacañan Palace, Manila, Philippines

Ramon Magsaysay had a look of disappointment on his face, watching the news that was being broadcast over state television. The Middle East had reached breaking point over the issue of Syrian immigration. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, one of many Middle Eastern nations that had been swept up in this issue, had decided to go to war in order to stop the flood of migration to their country. The reactions of several other nations were also broadcast, but he barely noticed them.

Magsaysay could not help but be astonished at what he felt was a completely disproportionate response. "Could they not have made do with increased border patrols, maybe a border fence? In any case, a full-scale invasion is just too much," he thought to himself. He gave the matter some more thought, and then decided against making a response. He felt that this was a problem only for Syria and Jordan, and thus he felt he had no business getting involved at all. He did, however, make a mental note to have the embassies of both countries be on alert and to prepare emergency evacuation procedures for the Filipino overseas workers in both countries.

He then stood up and looked out his office's window, which overlooked the nearby Pasig River. Malacañan Palace had recently undergone a renovation, after the massive damage it took during the Philippine Civil War had left the entire building on the verge of collapse. While most of the traces of the civil war was now gone, the Philippines still felt its effects, with the country being massively pro-Californian and possessing heavy anti-Japanese sentiments. This was something he had to remedy fast, especially with the announcement he was planning to make later in the afternoon.

His plan, the formation of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization, had received unanimous support from his government and his citizens. The threat of Communist guerrillas in the countryside had only gotten worse as time went on, and the people had wanted something to be done. With the support of the government, Magsaysay was now ready to present his plan to the world. "But will the world listen, and even if they did, would they support it?"

He put the thought out of his mind for now. He had work to do.

"To all nations of the world, there could be no better time to speak to you than now, when the specter of war threatens the peace of our world. Even now, Communist guerrillas ravage the countrysides of our peaceful countries, seeking to bring tyranny and oppression, under the guise of their so-called "workers' revolution", to every nation here on Earth. I have seen, personally, the suffering that my citizens have to endure at the hands of these terrorists. My military have done their best to defend my citizens from such lawlessness, and while we have succeeded in battling these Communists, other countries have not been so fortunate. And even should we triumph against these communist rebels in our countries, what is to stop the Communist regimes of the world from simply bringing more of their brainwashed fighters into our soil?

Leaders of the world, I will be frank. Communism must be destroyed, and if not, at least contained in their own lands to prevent them from spreading any further tyranny throughout the world. We have no unified response, no alliance to counter the growing threat of Communism to our peaceful way of life. But that changes today.

I hereby invite all free countries of Southeast Asia, and by extension the free countries of the world, to join the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization, a collective defense pact that shall be our safeguard against Communism. This pact shall serve as a deterrent against the growing power of the USSR and her satellite states, preventing them from ever plunging other countries again into the oppression of Communism.

I urge you all! In the name of freedom, of democracy, of the spirit of liberty and humanity, join the SEATO! Help me in our fight against Communism, and together, we shall achieve global peace and unity under the grace of God.

That will be all."

The Connally Doctrine
Image

President John Connally looks over a letter with brief and frantic writing. He sighs and slides the letter across the his ornate oak desk that sits within the presidential mansion. The letter had been sent by an informant of The Texan Republic stationed within the territory of Jordan. The informant frantically wrote brief statements of fear about the rising tensions between Jordan and The Arab Republic. President Connally knew that intervention in an impending war half way across the world would be unpopular among the Texan people. Intervention would also cost greatly in both Texan assets and men which further swayed The Presidents final decision on the issue. Taking these things into account, The President penned a letter to the Jordanian Government that would be passed through the Texan military and her informants to ensure speedy delivery.

Dear, King al Hussein

It has been brought to my attention the recent developments between the Kingdom of Jordan and The Arab Republic. I stand by your decision to use whatever means necessary to protect your borders from mass migrations however I can not and will not support a war over a diplomatic solution to the conflict. I am willing to serve as a neutral state for talks between your two nations in order to bring about a diplomatic and peaceful end to this crisis. In the event that war should break out, we shall not and will not send our men and assets to the aid of your nation unless we are convinced that mass human rights abuses are being committed by The Arab Republic. This is the official decision of The Texan Republic and we will not move from this position. Let us hope that peace can be achieved. God Bless you, the Jordanian people, the people of The Arab Republic, and God Bless The Republic of Texas.

Sincerely, President John Connally of The Texas Republic

A similar letter would likewise be sent to the government of The Arab Republic as the President hoped that both countries would agree to a possible summit in San Antonio. These letters would likewise be released to the Texan citizenry who began to call them The Connally Doctrine. The doctrine would be defined as a willingness prevent wars through diplomatic means and a willingness to only intervene in a war if human rights are being abused. This doctrine plays incredibly well with Texans and as such President Connallys support is further elevated.

The Quebecois Republic

La République Québécoise

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Quebecois Republic - Weapons Comission

The Quebecois Republic's Safeguard has foreseen the growing need for a refined arsenal in the coming years for the nation-state. As such, The Quebecois Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to reach out to the international community of weapon designers in a request to produce an Anti-Tank Rifle which fulfills the following necessary requirements;

I) The Rifle must be able to penetrate a minimum of 30 mm at 300 meters, or greater.
II) The Rifle must be able to fire at least three rounds before requiring a change in magazine.
II-I) If The Rifle is not fed by a magazine, The Rifle must be bolt-action.
III) The Rifle must weigh less then 55 pounds unloaded. Optimally, 38 pounds.
IV) The Rifle must be able to rotate on it's designated stand, and withhold a depression angle of at least 10 degrees downward.
V) The Rifle must be mountable on traditional Carden Loyd Tankettes, the main AFV of The Quebecois Republic.
OOC) The Rifle must be suitable for the Cold-War Era (1945 - 1985).

We are prepared to offer an upwards of FRQ$35,000,000 (Franc-Quebecois) and a copy of "Trump: Art of The Deal" to begin the design process. We are flexible and willing to work with manufactures to reach an optimal deal for all parties.

We hope the international community will hear our requests for a new dawn of rifle manufacturing for The Quebecois Republic, and for the world.

*The Administration of The Quebecois Republic would be more then pleased to offer additional payment to keep The Rifle under patent of The Quebecois Republic.
