Context

The Ocean Planet of Veios is one of humanity's newest settlements in her new and slowly expanding galactic empire. Thanks to Alcubierre warp drives, FTL travel is possible. Though admittedly the generation and isolation of exotic matter has proven extremely difficult. Communication, however, is still bound by the laws of physics and must proceed AT light speed.

Why is this relevant?

Five years ago a communication from Veios was sent containing screams only describable as a mix of human and inhuman. Earth received this communication today. The Archon Six, the Heads of each major Earth department, universally agree that survivors are unlikely. But they are not willing to sacrifice the trillions of dollars that went into the infrastructure allowing Veios to be inhabitable and exploitable. So they're sending ExtraSolar Detachment Echo (ESDE, colloquially called Ez-Day) to deal with it. ESDE is equipped with military specialists, scientists and engineers who are trained to operate independently without contact with Earth. This is because once they reach Veios the communication window between it and Earth is 3 years.

Veios has very little surface landmass and the landmass it does have was unsuitable for development. All installations are therefore underwater at varying depths. Habitation installations are built closer to the surface to block radiation but allow enough stellar light in to enable the growth of food and the attachment of solar panels which partially power the installation above the water. Research installations are further down to study the biology and geology of the planet and its organisms. Research contains a fusion reactor which lost power a few hours after the last transmission was sent, getting it running will allow all Installations to be powered. The furthest down in the planet's equivalent of our abyssopelagic zone is the Mining installations. These installations are on the ocean floor and are built to resist the massive amounts of pressure bearing down on everything at such a depth. All resource extraction for use on Veios and for shipment elsewhere is done here.

All three installations lost contact with Earth at similar times so ESDE must systematically explore all three, beginning of course with Habitation. Once clear it can be retrofitted to support the team as they venture into the depths to explore Research and Mining. It should be noted that both the fusion reactor and facility manager AI are offline and located in Research, once both are back online the facility will regain most of its operational ability.

To get to Veios ESDE will be taking the Earthen vessel Athena. Athena is fitted with a state-of-the-art Alcubierre drive that cuts travel time down to only two months. Use this time to get to know the Detachment and familiarize yourself with the vessel because once you land you'll be on Veios for the foreseeable future, without outside contact.

One more thing, the Archon Six fully recognize that this is a difficult task to ask of you. Although the Athena possesses enough fuel to drift on a slower route back to Earth, they do not tolerate mutineers. If the logs are inconsistent and show the mission has not been completed, the remaining survivors will be tried for treason. But to motivate your team if the mission IS successful all survivors/deceased and their family's will be rewarded handsomely. Enough to live comfortably for life.

So for yours, Veios's, and Earth's sake... complete your damn mission.

ESDE Breakdown

Total Members: 120, 2 Command, 4 Team Heads and 114 Team Members

As a member of ESDE you'll be a part of either the Strike Team, the Support Team, the Engineering Team or the Science Team. Each team is a vital component that will ensure the long term survival of the detachment on Veios. All unfilled roles will be filled by NPCs.

Generalized Equipment
This equipment is common to every member of ESDE regardless of team.
  • x1 SCD-M5 (A Standard Communications Device with clear, long-range voice and video capabilities to maintain communications between teams. Contains a dedicated a series of channels at the squad level, team level and command level to be used by individuals of the appropriate rank. Squad leads also have their own channels to allow communication between the Strike and Support team leads.)
  • x1 Handheld Flashlight with Hand Crank (A flashlight with 10, 25, 50 and 100 lumen options that is powered by a long-lasting LiB with enough charge cycles to last well over 5 years of operation. Rechargeable via hand crank, converting kinetic energy with high efficiency. Attachable to all ESDE rifles if required.)
  • x1 Ultrathin Kevlar Clothing (A customizable cloth-like material with the ability to resist standard firearms to a similar degree as 21st century police bulletproof vests while also being as thin and comfortable as normal clothing. Every member wears it as their 'clothing' in a design appropriate for their role, and additional protection is donned if required. Contains pockets for lightweight equipment such as flasks and the multipurpose knife.)
  • x6 High Density MREs (An extremely nutrient and caloric dense foodstuff described as "edible." One MRE will last a soldier several days, though for the sake of morale it is best to find another food source to supplement it.)
  • x1 Water Flask (A flask that is able to purify salty and stagnant water, requires occasional maintenance to ensure the filter works correctly. Holds enough water for 3 days.)
  • x1 Multipurpose Knife (The spiritual successor to the Swiss Army Knife. Contains a sharp blade, scissors, wire stripper, pliers, universal screwdriver, high energy laser and emergency electronic interfacer. The high energy laser and interfacer can be recharged at any recharge station. The interfacer allows one to override basic instructions given to the Installation AI such as "keep door open" if needed, such as when said door must be closed to delay hostile forces from advancing. The electronic components of the knife, like all other devices, is tied to a person's life signature. Once KIA, it no longer functions.)
  • x3 Gellane Tubules (Each tubule of gellane contains enough fluid to instantly repair a moderately sized wound while injecting painkillers to allow a soldier to temporarily fight on/retreat so that better care can be taken. Gellane can also disintegrate surface level bullet fragments so that surgery is not required to remove them. Deeper wounds and bullet fragments will indeed require a proper doctor/field medic however.)
  • x1 MO-SAW3 and x2 Additional Clips (The Department of Military Operations Small Arms Weapon - Model 3 is a reliable projectile-based weapon with high stopping power and minimal recoil due to an ingenious kinetic discharge mechanism. Contains 8 shots per clip. Semi-automatic. To prevent accidental friendly fire safety will automatically engage if the weapon's reticle detects a friendly in its line of fire.)
  • 1x Backpack (For all other equipment that cannot fit within armour or ultrathin kevlar, either due to size or weight. Optimized for strength, weight and carrying volume.)

Command
Purpose
Command isn't officially it's own team but is considered the glue to hold and coordinate the remainder of the teams and their heads. They're responsible for the broad decision-making but leave the nitty gritty to the heads themselves. They're also supposed to maintain daily logs to be sent to Earth so that in five years time the Department of Extrasolar Communications has knowledge to what operations ESDE has undertaken since their departure.
Ranks/Roles
Total Members: 2
  • x1 Detachment Commander - Rank: Commanding Officer (A hand-picked officer from the Archon of the Military Department with extensive combat and command experience. Psychologically screened to ensure he or she maintains a level head given the amount of responsibility placed upon them. Ultimately the one who will give the final word in every major decision of the detachment. The official voice and face of the detachment to the Department of Extrasolar Communication in the logs they write daily.)
  • x1 Detachment Exec - Rank: Executive Officer (The second-in-command, responsible for completely overtaking duties in case of the DC becoming incapacitated or killed. Assists in decision-making and often travels more to visit the teams in person to get more in-depth information of how they are progressing in their current duties. Well versed in each of the teams operations so that they can potentially assist in day-to-day team operations while the DC focuses on the 'bigger picture.')
Specialized Equipment
  • x1 Personal Command Computer (A rugged computer designed to survive low-power and high amounts of damage and still function optimally. Maintains the communications window between Veios and Earth such that no interruptions to the daily scheduled logs will occur. The DC and DE are able to keep track of the locations and statuses of every ESDE member using this device and can communicate to individual members if needed. Security features are nigh impenetrable preventing rogue forces from accessing sensitive files on these devices. If deemed ultimately necessary the DC or DE may activate an on board nuclear device to destroy both the computer and its surroundings. This is intended to kill all hostile forces and prevent access to the device in a 'no-win scenario.' Members of descending rank may access this device ONLY if detects no life signatures of anyone of superior rank so that daily logs may continue unhindered.)
  • x1 High Energy Personal Shield (A prototype energy shielding provided to Command and the Team Heads that resists kinetic and energy weaponry to a degree much higher than traditional armor and plating. In order to dissipate the impacts of said weaponry it requires a massive amount of energy to power and as such has a limited lifespan with a long recharge time. As such it is to be used only in emergencies.)
  • TBD

Strike Team
Purpose
Armed with the best protective gear and weaponry of the four teams, the Strike Team's role is obvious: secure hostile areas to allow the remainder of the Detachment to proceed safely and defend the rest of the Detachment if necessary. Operating in four squads of ten the total number of individuals numbers forty. Given their training and armaments in most extrasolar situations this amount of firepower is deemed sufficient to accomplish their mission. Given the amount of men under his or her control the Strike Team Head is higher ranked in command than the others.
Ranks/Roles
Total Members: 41, 10 per squad (Alpha, Beta, Charlie, Delta) and one Strike Team Head.
  • x1 Strike Team Head - Rank: Lieutenant (The third most senior combatant in ESDE is the Strike Team Head. Their role is coordinate the four squads under their command in order to sweep and secure hostile or unknown areas so that the other teams can safely advance in. They must have excellent tactical capabilities to be able to direct their men well and keep in touch with the DC, DE and Support Team Head. Also the third to assume command in case both the DC and DE are incapacitated or killed.)
  • x4 Strike Squad Lead (1 per Squad) - Rank: Sergeant (It is up to the Strike Squad Lead of each Squad to best interpret the general orders given to them by their Team Head. They give detailed orders to their men in order to eliminate hostiles, clear rooms and maintain perimeters. They also possess specialized weaponry similar to the Heavy Weapons role. As such they should inspire their men by leading them in combat and not sitting by the sidelines.)
  • x16 Riflemen (5 per Squad) - Rank: Private (The standard squad member will comprise of half the men in a given Strike Squad. Carries standard weaponry and should perform most tactical maneuvers and combat while being supported by the other members of their squad.)
  • x4 Heavy Weapons (1 per Squad) - Rank: Corporal (If the standard firearms equipped by the Riflemen and Specialists are not able to effectively combat hostiles the HW Team Member utilizes their specialized weaponry to provide combat support. The Department of Military Operations has a wide variety of heavy weaponry available for specific missions. In the context of the Veios mission, high explosives were deemed too dangerous to use in a pressurized environment. As such, flame and plasma based weaponry will be employed instead.)
  • x8 Specialist (2 per Squad) - Rank: Private (The support members of the squad are often equipped with non-heavy but nonetheless different weaponry than the standard Riflemen, as well as defensive armaments. Their role is unique but nonetheless considered somewhat of an intermediate between a Rifleman and a Heavy Weapons Member.)
  • x4 Dronesman (1 per Squad) - Rank: Corporal (Equipped with several drones to act as either semi-disposable combatants or scouts. Ensures that the squad is safe to proceed forward and combined with surveillance from the Support Team ensures that the Strike Team always has the intelligence advantage over their enemies.)

Specialized Equipment
  • x1 MO-StR (The Department of Military Operations Standardized Rifle is the most common long-barreled firearm employed by the Earth military and by extension the Extrasolar Detachments. It is equipped by everyone unless otherwise stated. It possesses a thirty round magazine, an ammo counter which displays the number of rounds left in said magazine and selective fire modes for semi-automatic and automatic. The weapon comes equipped with 'shrap' munitions which detonate inside hostile flesh to tear them apart from within. To prevent accidental friendly fire safety will automatically engage if the weapon's reticle detects a friendly in its line of fire.)
  • x1 MO-LwR (The Department of Military Operations Lightweight Rifle is an alternative version of the StR available for more experienced soldiers such as Squad Leads, Specialists and the Strike Team Head. It sacrifices recoil-dampening features to yield a lighter weight rifle that allows for a slightly higher 40 bullet clip more suitable for covering fire and quick movement. All other features are shared with the MO-StR however.)
  • x1 Protector FB-Armour (A full-body armour set designed to operate as a lightweight yet complete set of protective gear in combat situations. Includes headgear with a tempered glass heads-up display which monitors ones vitals and surroundings and recommends the wearer take certain actions when necessary. For example, if a user has taken a potentially lethal impact it will recommend retreat to the nearest field medic or doctor. Squad members, leaders and the Strike Team Head will all be marked with a small icon above their heads even if behind walls as long as they are within 100 meters. Non-squad members will be marked as such too.)
  • x1 Hellfire CF-HW (The Hellfire Compressed Fuel Heavy Weapon is available as an option for a Heavy Weapons member. The fuel contained within is highly energy dense and requires mere seconds to completely incinerate unarmoured targets. Comes with a small reserves of an extinguisher substance which quickly douses the unusual flame this weapon produces. As the name suggests the weapon has a very high fuel capacity and will likely not require in-combat reloads. Operators must activate several safety mechanisms in sync to use the weapon to ensure no accidental friendly fire occurs.)
  • x1 Arcgun (The Arcgun is available as an option for a Heavy Weapons member. Able to fire beams of superheated plasma in a similar fashion to ballistics weaponry. This allows for devastating firepower outmatching most kinetic weaponry. Heat dissipation is an issue which means extended fire cannot be maintained and necessary weight must be added to the weapon to allow for cooling systems to be implemented. The ammunition also drains more quickly than the Hellfire and requires semi-frequent reloads in the form of energy cells. The heat resistance of the facility begets the use of this weapon which may be unsuitable for use in other Detachments. To prevent accidental friendly fire safety will automatically engage if the weapon's reticle detects a friendly in its line of fire.)
  • x1 MO-GauR (The Department of Military Operations Gauss Rifle is an experimental kinetic weapon that utilizes single-shot electromagnetically accelerated projectiles that split mid-air to act as a long-range shotgun/sniper rifle hybrid. It is available for a Specialist member. The split occurs at a distance relative to that of the hostiles one is engaging with the weapon; that is to say that it splits earlier if hostiles are closer and later if they are further away. Either away the kinetic energy preserved maximally so that the split projectiles are able to pierce the armour of as many targets as possible. To prevent accidental friendly fire safety will automatically engage if the weapon's reticle detects a friendly in its line of fire.)
  • x1 MO-DA1 (The Department of Military Operations Defensive Armament Version 1 is a weapon available to Specialist members who prefer to act defensively instead of as a supporting fire role from afar. This armament fires groups of microneedles which can affix themselves to any surface and remain concealed due to their small size. Upon contact with a hostile the needles detonate inside the target releasing a quick-acting caustic agent which causes immense pain and tissue damage within seconds. The needles are equipped with life sensors so that no accidental detonation near friendly forces occurs; the needles retract if friendly forces need to move through the area.)
  • x2 Flashbang Grenades (Two Standard Flashbang grenades are available for Riflemen. They operate similarly to 21st century versions with the caveat that friendly forces are immune due to integrated noise and visual cancelling features in the Protector Armour Plating.)
  • x3 Covergen Grenades (Three standard Covergen grenades are available for Specialists. Once thrown they deploy a special polymer that creates hallway-wide and standing level cover resistant to most munitions. This allows for friendly forces to gain tactical advantages in firefights where cover is lacking and increase safe movement options.)
  • x2 TacStims (Available for Squad Leads and Strike Team Heads. TacStims are a new drug which temporarily bolsters the prefontal cortex to suppress emotions and amplify high-level thinking and decision-making. In difficult combat situations a TacStim may allow the heightened leadership capabilities necessary for a squad to emerge victorious. That being said frequent use may lead to physical dependence and thus only one TacStim per day maximum is advised and only when absolutely necessary.)
  • x2 MO-VScD (The Department of Military Operations VTOL Scouting Drone is a small remotely operated drone available to Dronesmen. Optimized with silent flight and high capacity charge the device is perfect for gathering intelligence stealthily. Although not suited for combat the drone is equipped with several implements that make combat easier. Six tracking darts per drone that attach themselves to a target and mark their location. A high voltage taser-like weapon which drains a fair amount of charge in exchange for a temporary disable against most soft targets. And if necessary the drone can be detonated if captured or disabled to prevent reverse engineering by hostiles and to potentially injury or kill nearby enemies.)
  • x1 MO-CSD (The Department of Military Operations Combat Drone is a large sized drone carried on a Dronesman's back. A dronesman may pick between this and the MO-VFSD, the MO-VScD is mandatory. The drone can be remotely controlled or given fully autonomous freedom depending on how urgently the Dronesman must participate in combat himself. This drone is fully suited for combat engagements independently but works best in squad format. Upon deployment it unfolds into a bipedal combat drone with highly durable armour that can soak up large volumes of fire. The armor is expensive to manufacture and is rigid meaning it is unsuitable for personnel use and limits the mobility of the drone. Nonetheless the drone is equipped with an automatic cannon as one arm containing 1500 rounds allow for sustained burst fire in engagements. The munitions are only slightly less lethal than those used in Detachment rifles. Since it also suited for short range engagements its other arm contains a quick-cycling shotgun which can pierce armour effectively at close ranges. Finally it is equipped with a toggleable high energy shielding which drains immense power but allows nigh invulnerability. The drone's battery life allows it to last several combat engagements though frequent use of the shield lowers its life immensely. The drone is also the heaviest of the three and will slow the Dronesman significantly when worn.)
  • x1 MO-VFSD (The Department of Military Operations VTOL Fire Support Drone is a medium sized drone carried on a Dronesman's back. A dronesman may pick between this and the MO-CSD, the MO-VScD is mandatory. The drone is fully autonomous and is capable of providing fire support for a Strike Squad, acting as a moderately armed and armoured distraction to enemies. The drone is armed with a dual semi-automatic cannon containing 200 rounds. The munitions are smaller and less potent than the rounds used in Detachment rifles but nonetheless are lethal if vital points are struck. It's relatively small frame and high maneuverability allow it to evade fire. The drone also contains a small canister of Hellfire fuel that allow occasional bursts of extremely high temperature hellfire flame if needed, though its ammunition reserves are negligible compared to its bigger cousin wielded by the Heavy Weapons team member. Unfortunately it must sacrifice battery life to carry its munitions and maintain maneuverability and only has enough charge to last one or two average length engagements before recharge.)

Support Team
Purpose
Considered the 'in-between point' between Engineering and Strike, the Support Team members have the loosest roles of the four teams. A primary role is to create a safe fallback point in case the Strike Team is overwhelmed by enemy combatants and to support them in combat if deemed necessary. Another role is relying supplies and men (if injured or ill for example) between teams. Intelligence and surveillance also falls under the purview meaning they will be in constant communication with both Command and the Strike Team. Many members are also knowledgeable enough in Engineering to fill in in case of manpower shortage. Definitely the jack-of-all-trades team.
Ranks/Roles
Total Members: 29, 7 per squad (Alpha, Beta, Charlie, Delta) and one Support Team Head.
  • x1 Support Team Head - Rank: Warrant Officer (Coordinates his four squads to ensure that the Strike Team members have a safe retreat point where they can receive covering fire and medical attention. Must maintain constant communication with the Strike Team Head and the DC to ensure that everyone is aware of the current conflict sitrep. Due to the amount of resources required to construct these forward operating bases they must also organize supply routes with the Engineering Team Head, ferrying whatever Engineering has crafted to the front-lines.)
  • x4 Support Squad Lead (1 per Squad) - Rank: Sergeant (It is up to the Support Squad Lead of each Squad to best interpret the general orders given to them by their Team Head. Given the current situation they have to decide how heavy a base is required for them and their corresponding Strike Team. Given their communication with the corresponding Strike Squad Lead they must also inform their own squad if a Strike Squad must retreat so that proper preparations can be made: defensive weapons armed, medics ready, etc.)
  • x12 Constructors (3 per Squad) - Rank: Private (Armed with the necessary synth-tools to create custom base pieces from materials available in the supply chain. Their job is to actually construct the forward operating base to be used as a stationary point for a particular Support Squad and a fallback point for the corresponding Strike Squad. Because they are the one of the largest supply drains in the entire Detachment they must also be heavily involved in supply chain communication, letting their Lead and by extension Engineering know of material deficiencies.)
  • x4 Defensive Weapons Specialist (1 per Squad) - Rank: Corporal (Acts as a constructor until the base is operational. Then they are armed with the heaviest weapons in the Detachment. Stationary and designed to repel hostiles that forced the Strike Squad to retreat, or to simply defend the base if necessary. Their weapons are simply too unwieldy to be used in a mobile situation such as is the Strike Team's dogma.)
  • x4 Sweepers (1 per Squad) - Rank: Corporal (If the Dronesmen provide small amounts of highly accurate intel the Sweepers then provide large amounts of low-medium accuracy intel. They carry portable sweeping devices that can be planted and detect friendly and hostile signatures through a series of rapid pulses providing estimated locations of both. As an added benefit the devices have an interface that allows the Sweeper to directly speak to a Strike Team Squad if needed. This channel is completely separate from the SCD-M5 and is prefaced by a double beep so that they immediately recognize a Sweeper is contacting them. A good Sweeper provides an unprecedented intel advantage.)
  • x8 Field Medics (2 per Squad) - Rank: Private (The second stage of medical treatment available to a soldier, where the first is gellane tubule injection. Is able to restore soldiers with non-threatening wounds to combat duty and stabilize/resuscitate soldiers with life-threatening injuries so that they may survive the trip back to the Science Team where the specialized Doctors may finish treatment.)

  • x1 MO-LwR (The Department of Military Operations Lightweight Rifle is an alternative version of the StR available for more experienced soldiers such as Squad Leads, Field Medics and the Support Team Head. It sacrifices recoil-dampening features to yield a lighter weight rifle that allows for a slightly higher 40 bullet clip more suitable for covering fire and quick movement. All other features are shared with the MO-StR however.)
  • x1 Protector M-Armour (Although the full-body variant is lightweight given the volume of gear a soldier carries it still restricts mobility. Hence the Protector Mobile-Armour set sacrifices durability for movement. Includes headgear with a tempered glass heads-up display which monitors ones vitals and surroundings and recommends the wearer take certain actions when necessary. This is tailored for whatever role bears the armour. For example, field medics will be notified when a member in their squad or their corresponding Strike Squad has sustained an injury and where said injury is.)
  • x2 TacStims (Available for Squad Leads and Support Team Heads. TacStims are a new drug which temporarily bolsters the prefontal cortex to suppress emotions and amplify high-level thinking and decision-making. In difficult combat situations a TacStim may allow the heightened leadership capabilities necessary for a squad to emerge victorious. That being said frequent use may lead to physical dependence and thus only one TacStim per day maximum is advised and only when absolutely necessary.)
x1 MO-VFSD-Mini (The Department of Military Operations VTOL Fire Support Drone is a small sized drone wielded by the Support Team Head and the Squad Leads. The drone must be manually controlled and is capable of providing fire support for a Strike Squad, or assisting in reconnaissance if necessary. The drone is armed with dual semi-automatic cannon containing 100 rounds. The munitions are smaller and less potent than the rounds used in Detachment rifles but nonetheless are lethal if vital points are struck. It's relatively small frame and high maneuverability allow it to evade fire. High battery life due to its low weight. This device is a scaled back version of the fire support drone wielded by the Dronesman intended to allow Support Squad Leads to get an accurate picture of what their corresponding Strike Squad Lead and their squad is doing.)
  • Synth-Tool (The Synthesis Tool is carried by Defensive Weapons Specialists, Constructors and Support Squad Leads and allows them to extrude materials when attached to a wall port by a long cable which circulates necessary building materials across the entire installation. Nothing too complex can be constructed as the tool is still a novelty but parts include but aren't limited to: hardened polymer base walls and flooring, glass, a cloth-like material for bedding or roofs and various fasteners such as bolts or screws. Simple electronic components are also manufacturable like LEDs, wiring, etc.)
  • MO-VSuD (The Department of Military Operations VTOL Supply Drone is carried by Constructors and allows the rapid ferrying of complex supplies between separated groups in ESDE. Most often used to send supplies from Engineering to the front and samples from Field Researchers back to wherever the Science Team has set up. Has a long-lasting charge dependent of course on the weight of the objects being ferried and the speed of the drone. The drone is fully autonomous and paths excellently to its goal. It also carries three shots of a defensive taser which it can use to stun hostiles while it retreats.)
  • MO-HFT (The Department of Military Operations Heavy Firepower Turret is the standard implement carried by a Defensive Weapons Specialist. The device is folded up by default but can be quickly deployed on cover to provide accurate fire when needed. The turret rapidly fires 'Shrap' rounds which penetrate hostiles and explode from within, carrying 200 such rounds before reload is necessary. A tempered glass shield on the front protects the operator's head. The turret also has a single-shot option which it can use with a larger caliber ammunition which is kinetically accelerated through a coilgun underneath the main cannon. This secondary option is for heavily armored targets requiring precise elimination.)
  • MO-DEW (The Department of Military Operations Directed Energy Weapon is an additional option for the Defensive Weapons Specialist. The size and energy output of the weapon enables a consistent stream of laser to be emitted with the potential to rapidly disintegrate and cleave through armor and body parts. This weapon naturally must dissipate extraordinary amounts of heat through the use of a coolant liquid that requirements occasional replacement. Engineering Team is capable of manufacturing more. Of course the weapon cannot be fired constantly and requires stand by time to allow for heat dissipation and the recharging of its high-capacity battery which it accomplishes by connecting to the Installation's power grid. As such although it can technically provide more damage output than the MO-HFT it comes with drawbacks which must be carefully managed.)
  • HiF-Scanner (This device is carried by the Sweepers. It produces high frequency radio waves to give up to date information on the locations of friendlies and hostiles within a 200 m range. The ability of the device to siphon through noise is unprecedented ensuring the information is accurate. The range and frequency were balanced with power usage and size to yield a medium-weight device that must be recharged every 48 hours. The device comes with an interface allowing a Sweeper to directly contact any member(s) in any squad at the highest priority in case sudden intel must be relayed.)
  • MediTool (A device which when injected into a patient's torso gives accurate medical diagnostics on information such as BPM, blood pressure, rate of blood loss, cardiac cycle etc. to allow a Field Medic to decide treatment. Uses minimal power.)
  • MediKit (The other staple of a Field Medic. A large sized kit containing a complement of tools, medicines and other substances so that major injuries can be stymied or healed altogether. The contents of the kit are as follows: surgical tools; all standard tools required to perform field surgery. Medicines; medicines to treat pain, burns, infection, among other things - they are strong but not perfect. IV fluids/administers; contains your standard saline solutions as well as bags of rapidly growing stem cell cultures for any blood type. A basic medical AI is capable of performing the infusion once everything is set up. Gellane Bag; a large volume container of gellane for dealing with hemorrhaging and pain relief. Assorted equipment; other miscellaneous equipment such as tape, pins, etc.)
  • Medimplant (All medical roles were prioritized for new cybernetic implants due to their importance in keeping ESDE alive. These implants are new technology and as such are limited to removing minor facets that impede a doctor's ability to operate. These include: hand tremors, feelings of anxiety, and minor improvements in memory to store physical and chemical knowledge of medicines and procedures.)

Engineering Team
Purpose
The Engineering Team deals most with electronic/mechanical devices to keep everything running smoothly elsewhere. A primary role of Engineering is ensuring there are permanent outposts established with growing food, flowing water, waste facilities and habitation. On Veios their first objective will likely be getting the Habitation installation up and running so that the other teams can begin to progress deeper into the facility. Creation, operation and retrofitting of robots, exosuits etc. also belongs to Engineering. Lastly it is the job of Engineering to design working models of whatever the lab geeks at Science dream up. Once the Mining installation is secured there should be enough materials to fabricate whatever is necessary.
Ranks/Roles
Total Members: 23, 22 regular members and one Engineering Team Head.
  • x1 Engineering Team Head - Rank: Warrant Officer (The Engineering Team Head should have experience in all fields covered by other Engineering roles to ensure that they know if operations are proceeding smoothly. If low on manpower they must be able to temporarily act as another Engineering role too. Keeping track of food, water, oxygen and power and relying the information to DC is a frequent task of the Engineering Team Head. They also must communicate with the other heads so that all departments have whatever materials they need.)
  • x8 Maintenance - Rank: Private (Maintains and optimizes power, water and air systems as well as helps with supply transport to wherever needs it. Must communicate closely with the Engineering Team Head to ensure everyone is receiving what supplies they need. Because these systems are scattered through Veios's installations they may have to travel away on missions which means they are also equipped with a unique weapon/multitool to allow them to defend themselves and perform maintenance jobs off-site.)
  • x3 Roboticists - Rank: Corporal (The design, production, repair and retrofitting of robots and exosuits is performed by this role. As many models are too heavy to be brought with the Athena what instead is done is that the construction of whatever the colony needs is done on site using processed materials. Roboticists will supply and repair dronesmen with new 'toys' and if the investment is deemed worth it produce full-fledged exosuits and robots.)
  • x6 Autoagrists - Rank: Private (A portmanteau of "automatic agriculture specialist," these Engineering Members produce all the food required by the Detachment. Although it seems like 6 autoagrists would have difficulty feeding 120 personnel, this is not the case if done correctly. Food growth has been greatly accelerated with little loss in nutritional and caloric efficacy. Waste recycling, irrigation and lighting can all be optimized for whichever plants the autoagrists deem necessary for the men to have. Meat can be grown quickly using specialized stem cell cultures from Earth. And if Xenobiologists are able to find alien life fit for human consumption that too can be incorporated into the Detachment's diet.)
  • x5 Adaptineers - Rank: Corporal (Adaptineers design everything else not covered under the Roboticists and are aptly named because of their adaptibility on different planets. Their job is to create devices and gadgets that allow the ease of operation on whatever world the Detachment was sent to. Veios, being a water planet, has unique strategic advantages and disadvantages that these Engineering Team members hope to overcome. They must work closely with the Science Team as their breakthroughs will fuel the Adaptineer's creations.)

Science Team
Purpose
The science team is dedicated on researching unknown materials and lifeforms to give a better understanding on what the Detachment is dealing with. Cryptography also falls under their jurisdiction, codes must necessarily be cracked so that the situation on Veios three years ago can be revealed and understood. Although Support and Strike have members trained in medical care the real experts are treating the wounded belong in the Science Team. Disposal and recycling of the dead is also the responsibility of the Science Team.
Ranks/Roles
Total Members: 25, 24 regular members and one Science Team Head.
  • Science Team Head - Rank: Warrant Officer (The Science Team Head is formally trained as a Cryptographer but has years of experience managing teams of scientists. Besides working with the Cryptographers they act as the voice of the Science Team between the other Heads and Command. They should also have a rough idea of how to prioritize each group of roles, e.g. what should the Xenobiologists be researching?)
  • x7 Doctors - Rank: Private (Armed with the most advanced medical technology in the Detachment the Doctors are the last line of defense against death. Soldiers will be ferried back, likely by the squad's Support Team members. The Doctors have access to dedicated equipment with which they can use to perform medical scans, surgeries, blood transfusions and other potentially life-saving operations. They likely will have a lot of downtime in between casualties and as such have a secondary lower-priority task: preparing to 'counter' expected injuries. If ballistics wounds are common then surgery equipment should be upgraded if possible. If burns wounds are common then artificial skin grafts and accelerated healing creams should be manufactured. These are just examples. Doctors should be prepared for whatever nature throws at their patients, or team members as the Detachment formally calls them.)
  • x6 Field Researchers - Rank: Private (These members of the Science Team are formally trained as both combatants and scientists, though more heavily in the latter. This is because instead of lounging around in the lab they will go out into the field and hang around the Support and Strike Teams and wait for an engagement to finish so that they may retrieve useful objects/substances for further analysis. Alien biology, coded equipment and unknown chemicals can be given to the respective roles whereas more general research can be performed by them. They are also cleared to use pressurized Exo-suits for ocean exploration and aquatic combat. This may be deemed necessary but isn't expected to be commonplace for the Veios mission.)
  • x3 Cryptographers - Rank: Corporal (If dealing with hostile AI or enemy forces it is the Cryptographer's job to make sure our own software is secure from infiltration and to break the enemy's own code. Cryptographers are given conditional top secret access only shared with the DC and DE if both are alive - despite their rank. This is because to protect our information they must be allowed to access and understand all of it. They are also allowed to interface with the entire systems and subsystems of the installation. An extremely important role that must be protected, and is only entrusted to the most loyal Detachment members.)
  • x4 Xenobiologists - Rank: Corporal (Alien life is often a prerequisite for planetary colonization as it nearly guarantees abundant sources of materials to exploit. A team of Xenobiologists are therefore necessary, and are tasked with analyzing these lifeforms. Life on Earth has provided humans with countless sources of drugs, technologies and other developments. Alien life is bound to do the same and it is the job of this role to find and exploit the useful aspects of Veios's lifeforms. Of course it is their job to protect against the dangerous side of alien life, and develop countermeasures such as antivenom or specialized weaponry in collaboration with the Adaptineers in Engineering.)
  • x4 Chemists - Rank: Private (Chemists are dedicated to the discovery, analysis and development of unknown chemicals that may prove useful. If a sample of a kinetically-resistant armor comes in with an unknown structure the Chemists break it down and understand why it is so protective. They also should maintain supplies of already known chemicals for the other departments which is arguably a boring - but necessary, task.)

Rules and Application

  1. Standard Forum Rules: Don't be an ass, no godmodding/metagaming, controlling NPCs like some sort of freakish hivemind etc. etc.
  2. I, the GM, have ultimate say on tough decisions like character deaths. I'm also the DC and thus the highest ranked member of the Detachment.
  3. Obey rank; listen to your commanders. You're not gonna mutiny stranded light years away from Earth. You know that your best chance to survive is to keep coordinated with your superiors and soldiers under you.
  4. Be realistic with your interactions. You were handpicked to be able to function well with your fellow men away from civilization in a stressful situation for at LEAST five years. In the same vein you DO have emotions such as fear, anger, sadness, etc.
  5. Strike and Support Team members, try and fill Alpha first, then Bravo, Charlie, etc. so we don't have a mishmash of people not able to interact with other player characters.
  6. No one-liners. At least a short paragraph, even for just dialogue.
  7. Try to remain active. I'll try to do the same to keep the map updated and give broad orders so that each team knows what to do.
  8. Given the number of NPCs they are SEMI-disposable. But PM me if you'd like to kill one off in your post, although 120 men is a lot, it IS limited.

At least a paragraph in the Personality, Biography and Reason for Induction sections. LEAVE UNIQUE ARMAMENTS BLANK UNTIL I MENTION OTHERWISE, STILL WRITING THEM ON MY END, HOPEFULLY WILL BE DONE BY MARCH 3RD!!

My Application

Character Name: Lucas "Jupiter" Danniston
Age: 38
Sex: Male
Nationality: Belgian (Lunar-born, but Belgian by nationality)
Team: Command
Squad: N/A
Role and Rank: Detachment Commander - Commanding Officer
Unique Armaments: N/A

Appearance: At 6' 2'' and 220 lbs Lucas is an imposing man to many. He has brown hair shaven to a military buzz cut and brilliant blue eyes. He sports a van Dyke-style beard of brown complexion though some gray has set it. He also possesses several scars on his cheek and forehead due to shrapnel wounds. His body is lean but muscular, standard for a member of of an Extrasolar Detachment. For 38, he looks aged to his late 40s. He is most often seen in his officer's kevlar which is navy blue and appears almost like a suit. If in combat he'll don similar gear to a Strike Team member.
Personality: Although he has received commendations for his strategic mind and excellent leadership skills where he shines most is interpersonally. Lucas is exceedingly compassionate and cares as much about preserving lives as he does completing the mission. Despite this he remains level-headed if lives are risk so that both these objectives can be accomplished. To ensure no preventable mistakes are made Lucas can be made furious in the face of incompetence and stupidity. This is to trim the fat from a very select cut of meat, one that must maintain the highest standards of operation. Lucas believes both punishment and reward can mold a soldier into a fine fighting machine and so he's also quick to allow for breaks after a well-fought battle. He's also been complemented on his sense of humour, which he implements to keep morale high.
Biography: Lucas was Lunar-born, and lived in Russel City with his parents for the first six years of his life before they could afford tickets to Earth. The transition to terrestrial gravity always puts a physical strain on those born on sub-g worlds and often leads to permanent disability or deformities as the body struggles to adapt. His father kept the family physically fit by doing rigorous training daily so that his family could live a pain-free life on Earth after saving for so long. This challenged him in school, leading to poor grades. This wasn't due to lack of effort but simply the lack of opportunity of having been born on the planet. His life was consumed with fitness. But he would say himself that it was well worth it. When he turned 18 his best option was military service - and so he chose it. Now while fitness was the chagrin of many he excelled, and now he had the time to focus on his education. Eventually he made officer school with excellent grades which he passed with ease. He served several tours on Mars leading Riot Platoons curbing Martian rebels before his offer from the Department of Military Operations came in describing an opportunity that to many was only a pipe dream. Military service on an Extrasolar Detachment which would set a family up comfortably for life.
Reason for Induction: Lucas served with Extrasolar Detachment Beta which was deployed to the terrestrial planet Edenia. Oxygen concentrations in the air are 7% higher than that on Earth, so the planet is choked with vegetation and alien life. The same life was dominated by eusocial species including one with a queen containing roughly human levels of intelligence. Through countless deaths of her children she was able, through trial and error, determine away in which to eliminate the colonists of Edenia who regularly claimed land for expansion. ESDB was sent after a transmission was received documenting indoor combat between members of the hive and armed colonists. The mission lasted eight years in which time 54% of ESDB personnel were lost. Lucas became ranking officer after the death of their DC, DE and Strike Team Lead, at the time he was Support Team Lead. ESDB was able to enter the hive and systematically work their way into the central area where the queen stayed. Lucas leaped on a grenade which a soldier had dropped - intending to throw it at the queen's nest. This soldier's incompetence lead to unnecessary casualties, even though the queen was eventually subdued. Although only one time service is mandatory, Lucas's sense of duty demanded he serve another tour. This lead him here, promoted to DC, ready to command Extrasolar Detachment Echo in their mission to identify what exactly happened on Veios.

Personal Effects (optional): A photo of himself, his wife Joanna, two kids (Ashton and Thomas) and his dog Rosa.

  • Character Name: Bahman F. Schmidt
    Age: 32
    Sex: Male
    Nationality: Iranian-German, Earth-born
    Team: Support
    Squad: N/A
Role and Rank: Support Team Head: Warrant Officer
    Unique Armaments: N/A

Appearance: At 6'1", Schmidt is slightly intimidating. His blend of Iranian and German ancestry have given him a dark, but sharply defined face. Officially an Endomorph, he may be seen as athletically fit depending on the situation. Schmidt possesses one observable scar, which runs the length of his entire left leg.

Personality: Schmidt's personality is dependent on two primary factors, who he is and who he thinks he is. Officially praised for his field record of reliability and decisiveness, some may be led to believe that Schmidt is the perfect tactician. However, Schmidt values integrity, which has led to his candor irritating those who promote tolerance of everyone's ideas. Schmidt will rarely be seen in a dirty uniform, as he possesses certain traits of the obsessive compulsive disorder. Finally, living the life of a lawful neutral, Schmidt is always trying to organize a chaotic world.

Biography: Born into a family with a history of scientific and engineering service, you would think that Schmidt would enter the sciences. Schmidt attended the Earth Science Academy and graduated with acceptable grades, accepting a job with the Epsilon corporation. His original work involved the strategic planning of certain off-world business projects, one of which was closely involved with the design and development of the Veios installations. Once Epsilon's operations closed, Schmidt joined the military and rose through the ranks of logistical support.

Reason for Induction: During Epsilon's final days, the primary research center was assaulted by an unknown force. In the chaos, Schmidt managed to retrieve a hard copy of the facility diagnostics before suffering a direct attack. After the dust settled, Schmidt had almost bled to death from a certain wound, however the diagnostics allowed military forces to track the perpetrators and engage them before they could harm other outposts. This incident offered him a chance to join the military at a high-level logistics consultant position, which allowed him to recommend himself for the Veios mission.

Personal Effects (optional): Schmidt selected three small personal effects for the Veios mission. One, a damaged toy plastic soldier on a chain, seems to be connected to his past. A shell casing seems to be connected to his present, as it has his name engraved within it. Finally, a technological holo-ring, which seems to allude to his future
  • Character Name: Cali "Quad" Rysik
    Age: 20
    Sex: M
    Nationality: Polish, Martian-Born

    Squad: Alpha
    Role and Rank: Corporal
    Unique Armaments:

    1×Protector FB-Armour
    2×Flashbang Grenades
    2×MO-VScD
    1×MO-VFSD
    Appearance: https://goo.gl/images/P8p3XD
Personality: generally caring for friends and a person with whom you can make a friend as a stranger or a Sanguine
    Biography:
Rysik born on Mars in Eden City ( is there one? ) his early life was troubled when the rebellion started, some rebels left him and his only friend with small oxygen supply due to saying some pro-Earth things, he survived but his friend did not even though Cali shielded him from a sandstorm his oxygen supply ran out. After the incident, he was transferred to Earth as a witness and put involuntarily under rigorous training in order for his body to adapt. It worked but with so many like him his only option was the military and he was first put into patrolling the skies of Venus from sky pirates, because of the exceptional work he was put into Extrasolar Detachment Delta.
Reason for Induction: His work with Extrasolar Detachment was the planet Kerns on which extensive deserts were a most prominent piece of landscape, they were hunting for a Terseroser (a kinda super big lizard with strange metabolism ) that was troubling Oasis settlements. The operation took 2 years of extensive drone surveillance, 34% of personnel were lost in unsuccessful attacks on the monster, Cali's time for glory was when he jumped into the animal mouth and threw a grenade into it intestines, the tongue of the beast shielded him. After the tour, he was granted the rank of Corporal and trained in Drone Operations and later promoted into Extrasolar Detachment Echo to investigate what's happening on Veios.

Personal Effects (optional): Photo of his best friend and from the very same friend funeral, photo of his class from military also a lucky pair of dice
  • Character Name: Lt. Theodore "Ted" Bradlee
    Age: 26
    Sex: Male
    Nationality: USA
    Team: Strike
    Squad: N/A
Role and Rank: Strike Team Head - First Lieutenant
    Unique Armaments: TBD

Appearance: Ted is a blandly handsome young man of New England patrician stock. He is slightly taller than average, with a classic swimmer's build: long arms, broad shoulders and upper back, trim waist. His straw-blond hair is worn in an officer's cut - a very short side-part - instead of a conventional military buzz. Ted's eyes are sea-green, large and thoughtful, and he carries himself with the calm confidence that comes of both privilege and experience. While the visor of his helmet corrects his vision in combat, he prefers to wear old-fashioned steel-rimmed glasses when he is not using his battle gear. Ted takes pride in his appearance, and when he is not directly in the line of fire, he is always well-groomed: hair neatly parted, fatigues creased, trousers bloused, boots shined. His service ribbons show that he has earned the Solar Star Medal with Combat "V", two Archonate Commendation Medals, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Mars Insurrection Service Medal, the Special Forces Badge, and the Orbital Assault Badge.

Personality: Ted Bradlee is the scion of a family of New England aristocrats whose lineage dates back almost to the Mayflower. He was raised in immense privilege, but also with the deep awareness that great things would be expected of him: that the price of his family's wealth and power was that their lives would be spent in the service of God, country, and humanity. Endowed with high intelligence and the best possible education, Ted possesses absolute and instinctive confidence in his own judgment, and is calm and decisive under pressure. He is not ashamed of his privilege, and troopers new to his command can find his love of opera and encyclopedic knowledge of literature obnoxious. Moreover, as a former special forces officer, Ted's inclination to think outside the box and consider non-military solutions can frustrate his superiors: he is open-minded, culturally sensitive, a fine judge of character, and impatient with orthodoxies. But Ted is also fearless under fire and drily funny, and while he doesn't hide his erudition, it genuinely is not tainted by arrogance. Ultimately, he inspires great loyalty through his unflinching adherence to a single rule: he leads from the front, and he never asks his men to do anything he wouldn't do himself.

    Biography:
Ted Bradlee was born into a family of Boston Brahmins that had produced several members of Congress, a dozen corporate executives, and three Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper editors. In the era of the Archon Six, the Bradlees had remade themselves as members of a global political, corporate, academic, and media elite. But they never lost the old WASP belief that their privilege, however just and proper, imposed upon them a responsibility to render service to country, God, and mankind.

Educated at Phillips Exeter and Harvard, among other scions of the North American super-elite, Ted's relationship with his family was cool: after so much time at boarding schools, he rarely felt comfortable in his own home, and he spent his vacations on the Bradlee's sailing yacht instead. He did well in his coursework, usually in the top ten percent of his class, and he especially excelled in the study of literature, history, and politics. Ted also swam competitively from an early age, and eventually captained the Harvard varsity swim team: he came close to setting a record in the 400-meter medley. But most of all, Ted deeply internalized the values of his upbringing: erudition, competence, and a responsibility so profound and dutiful as to embody the very core of his character. Ted Bradlee grew up knowing that one day, he would help to run the human race. The challenge was not to gain that power, but to deserve it.

And so, as Ted moved steadily through his education, he prepared himself for the traditional tour in uniform that many of his classmates also undertook: a rite of passage that would expose a child of privilege to the rest of human society; a test of character that would replace luxury with discipline and hardship; a proof of loyalty that meant a future leader could be trusted with the lives of others. Ted completed Officer Candidate School just as unrest on Mars was approaching a fever pitch. He would serve three tours on the Red Planet.

His first tour was as a green Marine lieutenant, leading an infantry platoon on pacification patrols of rebel habitats. He was decorated for leading his platoon through an insurgent ambush, which cost four lives, but during which Ted managed to get his Marines fortified in a post office for five hours until relief arrived. After that, many of his family and friends urged Ted to consider his duty done, and to leave the service for law school or a business career. Instead, Ted volunteered for orbital assault training: on Mars, the conflict was still raging, and he felt that he had a duty to see it through. Ted passed the grueling training, and served his next tour as a platoon commander in the elite drop troops, hammering rebel command centers with supposedly surgical kill missions. Once again, he was decorated, and fast-tracked for promotion: it now became clear that Ted's family connections and wealth would smooth his path to the highest ranks of Earth's military, instead of to the top of Earth's political or corporate establishments.

But Ted was an unhappy drop trooper: the collateral damage of these shock-and-awe operations, and the resulting hardening of civilian anger against the Archon Six, convinced the young man that a fundamentally different approach to the war was needed. Yet again, citing his sense of duty, he sidestepped promotion and instead volunteered for special forces training. Eight months later, he was back on Mars, this time as the executive officer of a small team working to support local government, train security forces, and reduce instability from the bottom up. While the tour produced no headline-grabbing firefights, one year later, support for the insurgents had crumbled in that particular habitat, and violence was down eighty-five percent.

With the Mars conflict beginning to wind down, Ted confronted a choice: demobilize, or decide once and for all to make the military his career. He chose the latter, and was selected for service with the Extrasolar Detachments. It was an odd path: Ted didn't need the money, and most Detachment personnel were looking to get out of the military with a tidy bundle for retirement - not to advance. But Ted wanted the challenge, and he judged that an officer who proved himself under such intense pressure as the Detachments - and who then chose not to retire - would be seen as obvious command material for the rest of his career. And so now this young, highly-decorated officer finds himself aboard the Athena, bound for Veios and the mysteries that await.

Reason for Induction: Ted was inducted into ESD-Echo based on his outstanding - if somewhat unorthodox - military record, which suggests a highly capable officer capable of thinking outside the box. It didn't hurt that he volunteered, and that he has very powerful family connections with the top military brass on Earth.

Personal Effects (optional): Antique, leather-bound copies of the King James Bible, the Iliad, and Seven Pillars of Wisdom. And a personal music player (sort of a futuristic iPod), loaded with thirty hours of opera.
  • Character Name: Emma MeKul, M.D.
    Age: 27
    Sex: Female
Nationality: Anglo-French (Descended from some of the earliest permanent inhabitants of Eris, with primarily Northern-Irish(British), French, and German heritage, with dual citizenship to the UK and France)
    Team: Science
    Squad: N/A
Role and Rank: Xenobiologist(Also a General Practitioner in First Year of Residence, but her primary role is to be a xenobiologist): Corporal
    Unique Armaments: TDB

Appearance: Many native Eridians have been genetically modified so that their hair is bioluminescent, including Emma
Personality: Emma occupies an odd position in the personality spectrum. Although generally fairly empathetic and polite, her tact can on occasion be faulty, and she has low tolerance for arrogant stupidity. Her demeanour and affinity for dark humour may strike some as indifferent or negative, although for her, it simply serves as a means to make ease her nerves in difficult situations. She’s generally quite detail-oriented, and will always have no shortage of preliminary questions before beginning a given task. Although an introvert by nature, she’s generally socially competent, although she strongly dislikes loud groups of densely packed people, and thus thrives most in smaller gatherings.
Biography: The MeKul family comes from a fairly long line of Eridians, MeKuls(The spelling was, in those days, McCool), in fact, were among the first permanent inhabitants of the dwarf planet, and the MeKuls have long since adapted to live on the icy dwarf planet thanks to the virtues of technology. Eris is, truly, a small world, with a relatively small selection of surnames dating back to the initial colonisation of the world. Eris, being Pluto’s seldom visited cousin, does not see a great deal of traffic, although it was once referred to as Launchpad to the Galaxy in the early days of human colonisation, back when FTL was still primitive. The Eridians have, for quite a while now, developed their own language thanks to their current obsolescence-caused isolation. Another more relevant relic of the early days of colonisation is the MeKul-Bordjes Mining Company, once dominated Oort Cloud mining enterprises after the merger between the MeKul Mining Company, which had prospects in the Oort Cloud, and the Bordjes Mining Company, a Plutonian company with profitable shares in the Kuiper Belt mining industry. With the combination of funds, the MeKul-Bordjes Mining Company generated enough profit to make the primary stockholders fairly wealthy, if not fabulously so.
It was this wealth, in fact, that gave Emma a leg up early in life. From her hometown, Elada’s Nook, Emma was sent to Titan, which held a fine educational institution on the shores of Ligeia Mare known as Huygens Preparatory School. With a strong resumé, a good name on her diploma, and some college credits in advance, Emma was able to get a B.A. in Biology and a B.A. in Medicine from Aberdeen University—marking her first, and only time on Earth. After her B.A., Emma set her sights on an ambitious plan to get both an M.D. for her prospects as a xenobiologist, and certification as a General Practioner. The former took priority, although Emma did pursue medical school on a slower track alongside it. Thanks to her family background, Emma was able to avoid working, and instead focus entirely on her studies, enabling her to finish her M.D. and G.P. schooling shortly before the mission aboard the Athena was announced. In search for a new job that could perhaps double as residence with a hefty salary to enable her reimburse her family for her educational expenses, Emma applied for a position as a Xenobiologist aboard the Athena, continuing the MeKul family tradition of pioneering.
Reason for Induction: Emma was selected for service on ESD-Echo based on her outstanding qualifications, and unique background, which suggest an individual capable of useful and unorthodox perspectives, as well as a capable learner. Further, the fact that she is trained as a Xenobiologist and in the process of becoming a General Practioner make her an excellent emergency doctor should the primary medical team need additional assistance.
Personal Effects: Emma possesses a state-of-the-art laptop containing both video games and useful programs for her studies, as well as assorted reading material, music, photos, and a Móitxán(Eridian)-English grammar and dictionary to keep her local tongue sharp. Her other main personal items are a plush toy from her youth, and four paper diaries with collectively enough pages to last her the duration of the trip.
  • Character Name: Jaco Van Zyl
    Age: 28
    Sex: Male
    Nationality: South African (Io-born)
    Team: Engineering
    Squad: N/A
    Role and Rank: Adaptineer, Corporal
    Unique Armaments: N/A

    Appearance: Jaco
Personality: Jaco can be described as an introvert that values the time when he is alone. He is capable of being sociable thought at times not understand social cues. To those, he calls his friends he is very to loyal them. A kind person at his heart and can find the good in any situation and is used to be working under pressure.

Biography: Jaco was born on the volcanic moon of Io to a second generation Ionian family. The diversity of the original settlers and the volcanic nature of the moon forged an enduring, melting pot culture which every Ionian knows at least two languages and Jaco is no exemption to the rule. His family are owners of a small engineering company based out of his hometown of New Pretoria called Prometheus Technologies. Under his family's tutelage and money, Jace was able to get a good education despite not being able to attend an Earth University. Turning into a skilled engineer through his company suffered as other companies aggressively pushing out Prometheus Technologies out of the market. With limited resources that the company could afford, Jaco was able to adapt and think of creative methods for making devices that helped the company. When he heard rewards of ESD-Echo mission, he applied to ESD-Echo to join and hopefully use the money to save his family's company.

Reason for Induction: Jaco was selected for the ESD-Echo for his not only for his adaptable nature and resourcefulness. He has experience with aquatic environments, from his time on Europa. Jaco was assigned to work and develop aquatic equipment for a deep-sea research facility. He personally designed several devices that proved to be a great value to the researchers.

Personal Effects (optional): Lucky coin(Ionian half-dollar), a photo of his family, a personal laptop containing his personal engineering projects and a portable music player.

Operation List

Operation Peregrine

Objectives: Ensure hangar is clear before moving through to secure adjacent rooms. Engineering and Science will set up temporary bases in the Athena. Strike and Support will clear several rooms of Habitation to allow Engineering and Science a foothold into the Installation. Once the first floor of Habitation is secure Support will begin to scan the second and third floors for hostiles. Strike and Support will maintain intelligence advantage and the perimeter while Engineering configures air, water, power and food for the minimum six year stay. Science will set up in Habitation until the Research Installation has been secured.

Status: Operation unattempted.

Casualties: N/A

Operation TBD

Open for business! I'm not yet done writing the specialized equipment or creating the map. Just want to gauge interest first.

Alright, I have a few lore questions here:
What knowledge, if any, is possessed regarding alien life?
How advanced are cybernetics and biotech in this roleplay?
How far is humanity’s reach across the galaxy(ie: colonisation status of solar system, exoplanets, etc)?

1) It exists and can be as varied and nuanced as Earth life. The primary purpose of Veios was to research geological features and to do deep sea mining, so not too much is known about the alien life, leaving the Science Team a lot of opportunities to do their own research.

2) Able to replicate the function of lost limbs with human-like accuracy. I haven't fully thought out how I'll integrate biotech, still a WIP, but I'll likely have certain roles equipped with some form of it.

3) In the solar system Mars, the Moon and several of the large Jovian moons have human settlements. Interstellar wise humanity has approximately 9 planetary colonies, each with a corresponding Detachment.

Yes. It is unknown if Veios possesses it but another human settlement Edenia had an invasive eusocial species that collectively had about human level intelligence. Unfortunately they were hostile and so Extrasolar Detachment Bravo had to eliminate them.

How advanced is AI in this universe? I was thinking of making a scientist character with an AI assistant integrated into his/her cybernetics.

Human-level. Most AIs are integrated into starships or facilities. Veios's AI is presently offline (I'll add that to the OP) and sure I don't mind, as long as your character does most of the work.

Yep. For future reference alpha will be filled first so all players in Strike and Support can interact with one another, the other squads will likely be NPCs.

Character Name: Cali "Quad" Rysik
Age: 20
Sex: M
Nationality: Polish, Martian-Born
Team:Strike
Squad: Alpha
Role and Rank: Corporal
Unique Armaments:

WIP App

Character Name: Dr. Victoria Brodzka/Hermes/Gabriel/Olifant
Age: 31
Sex: Female (Hermes and Gabriel identify as male, Olifant is content with "it".)
Nationality: Terran Canadian
Team: Science
Squad: N/A
Role and Rank: Science Team Head, Warrant Officer
Unique Armaments: N/A

Appearance: Image
Personality: Victoria's body is actually inhabited by four different intelligences - Victoria herself, and a trio of AIs built into her cybernetics, named Hermes, Gabriel, and Olifant. The three AIs are definitely "simpler" than Victoria, with less complex and generally static motivations, but are still thinking and (with the exception of Olifant) feeling beings.

Victoria is uncomfortable with long-term interaction with other people, instead preferring to just do her job and let other people do theirs. While by default she has authority over the three AIs, she often defers to them in situations other than cryptography, which is her area of expertise. She can often be paralyzed by important decisions. She is loyal to the Archon Six, and sees her work for ESDE as her patriotic duty.

Hermes is the oldest and the most emotional of the three AIs, and is aggressive in his insistence that he is deserving of the same rights as any human. He is not fond of any of his three companions, but dislikes Victoria the least and Olifant the most. Once he decides what the right thing to do is, he will insist it must be done, and will not back down. He is highly cynical and is suspicious of most of ESDE's superiors. Like Victoria, his area of expertise is cryptography, although he is more focused on cryptoanalysis. His primary role is as a "second pair of eyes", affirming or objecting to conclusions reached by Victoria or Gabriel, and doing the thinking while Victoria is distracted.

Gabriel is a friendly, outgoing, natural-born leader. (Although technically he isn't a "natural-born" anything.) He experiences emotions, like Hermes, but is generally more calm and collected. However, he has an intense and overpowering paternalistic instinct towards anyone under his command. He views Hermes with dismissive contempt, is good friends with Victoria, and respects but dislikes Olifant. He is even more loyal to the Archon Six than Victoria is. As Gabriel was created to lead teams of diverse groups of scientists, he is something of a "jack of all trades", with a basic understanding of most scientific disciplines relevant to ESDE's mission, and a knack for translating concepts between different disciplines.

Olifant is an "emergency mode" AI installed in Victoria's cybernetics in preparation for the Veios mission. Olifant is charming and pleasant by default, in order to fit in with its teammates, but in reality it feels no emotions, and is only concerned with the preservation of the Detachment and the completion of the mission. Olifant is meant to take control in times of great crisis, to execute actions necessary to avert mission failure that its companions would hesitate to perform. As such it has very little scientific knowledge, instead spending its time running simulations of disaster scenarios, and memorizing the correct course of action to take in such a situation.

Biography: (Your life story prior to induction)
Reason for Induction:

Personal Effects (optional): (Members of the Detachment are allowed a few small keepsakes, items or trinkets to make the long stay more bearable. Examples could be games, a religious symbol, family photos, etc)
Signatures are so 2014.

Yeah I have past experience, I'll try to correct any mistakes but the app is short because you didn't specify how much paragraphs you want so I automatically assumed one ( I purposefully left the personality section small because I suck at writing personalities )

Character Name: Bahman F. Schmidt
Age: 32
Sex: Male
Nationality: Iranian-German, Earth-born
Team: Support
Squad: N/A
Role and Rank: Support Team Head: Warrant Officer
Unique Armaments: -

Finally, a technological holo-ring, which seems to allude to his future.
