Dear comrades,
We the French people would like to organize a communist congress which would spread our ideology in small neutral countries and make them become communist.
We are the 3 biggest communist nations in the world. That's why I'm sending this to you : would you be interested in this project for 1951?
I would like to organize it in Marseille, the French capital city since Paris isn't ours.
Sincerely yours,
Comrade Thorez.

From : Maurice Thorez, Marseille, France
To : all Communist and Neutral countries.

Dear Nations of the World,
I would like to organize an international congress about communism. The congress will take place in Marseille, from January 27th, 1951 to January 30th, 1951.
All communists nations are invited to the congress, they can send representants to talk about communism.
All neutral nations are invited to the congress as well. They will be allowed to ask questions, and we will answer.
Capitalist nations can send people to observe ; however, they will only be able to watch and listen, but they won't be allowed to intervene.
Due to the recent incidents, China and South Korea won't be allowed to enter the congress for security reasons ; however, they will get a broadcast from our channels.
Greetings from Marseille,
Comrade Thorez.

"Good job. Don't contact the base until we're within a safe distance. Radio silence." said Maeng.

So you've actually attacked North Korea first while your allies told you to wait?

Dear Comrades,
We got the information from North Korea that a country, highly suspected to be South Korea, launched an air attack on Pyongyang.
I have a plan : on the international scene, DPRK will be ashamed if they declare war first.
So, WE will all declare war instead of DPRK. Then, they'll be protected if they do not declare war right now. They will have time to prepare themselves, and then strike.
Are you okay with this? If yes, I'll prepare myself for an international announce.
Greetings from Marseille,

Official statement on the leaflet campaign

To: NATO Command Korea, United States, China

It has been determined following an investigation that Maeng Jae-jin and Sim Chang-woo were not ordered by any superior officers to engage in their leaflet campaign. In fact, they were renegades part of an extremist organization known as United and Free Koreans. The leader of this organization, Hwa In-sung, has been arrested and is awaiting trial. Please publicize this information; it has already been released to Republic of Korea press.

Press release on United and Free Koreans

United and Free Koreans is a Pan-Korean nationalist group that seeks to provoke a war for Korean unification by infiltrating the military and government of the Republic of Korea. They originated as a group of ten, but have since expanded. It's unknown how many other members they have, but their leader, Hwa In-Sung, stated that they have contacts with a resistance movement in the DPRK. He did not specify any details about this movement, only that it's called the "Ilminist Resistance"; it may not actually exist. There may still be some members at large; the Republic is presently seeking out the remaining membership, and at the time of this release, has made twelve arrests in connection to UFK. These arrests came from both the military and various government agencies.

United Nations, Soviet Union

Chairman Shvernik was completely agitated at this point. When Stalin called for the UN SC to convene, his goal wasn't to debate whether Communism or Capitalism was the better system. It mainly was to discuss the questions surrounding Germany and Korea. The deputy sensed this and decided to take over for now, since he couldn't afford a... mishap here on the international stage. He turned to the British ambassador and calmly said "Your proposal is rather reasonable, for your side at least. Once again, you care more about finessing us as opposed to finding a true common ground where both sides can be satisfied. As of now, it doesn't go far enough: Poland, along with East Prussia, should be liberated, but either place a DMZ or split the region in the same way we did Korea. East Prussia can be a part of Poland as well if that's acceptable. Austria and Czechoslovakia should hold a referendum to determine their future status. However, we know Hitler pulled some behind-the-scenes moves to obtain the rest of Czechoslovakia after the Munich Agreement. And by the way, weren't most of their territorial gains illegal to the Treaty of Versailles?"

Shvernik regained his composure following his deputy's intervention that came at just the right time. He was glad to see a younger diplomat conduct themselves in such a respectable way during his first international meeting. Shvernik motioned for the deputy to step back for the time being. "I agree with my comrade here. Germany following the Treaty of Versailles should remain mostly untouched with the exceptions of their illegal annexations. Free and open voting is fine, but I have a question for you. You don't want the Germans to be 'defenseless against the communists', yet the UN will be in charge of these elections. Are you fearful that this organization isn't strong enough to keep things 'free'? Or are you more concerned with making sure your side wins? We don't interfere in foreign matters unless we deem it necessary, so an invasion, if that's what you're thinking, will not happen. However, if the people decide to go with communism or socialism or any variant, who are we to intervene and say 'you can't make that choice?'

"So here's our final offer: We propose the liberation of Poland and East Prussia. Austria and the rest of Czechoslovakia shall hold a referendum to choose to remain part of the German Reich. I hope that you can accept these terms that should satisfy both sides. But, in order to fully show real commitment to justice, the Soviet Union demands that China be condemned for their illegal support of the Mongolian coup and their meddling in the affairs of a country that does not concern them. Once again, the Chinese broke Chapter Seven of the United Nations Charter. To continue defending them shows your real agenda: The West is only using the pretense of an international peacekeeping force to allow them to one-up us at any opportunity. China, being a Security Council Member, ironically disturbed the international peace that they have sworn to protect. This is ample reason to remove them from the Security Council. Now, my Japanese colleagues may be blunt, but we agree with them. Supporting China when they clearly broke international law shows your real agenda. The United Nations, if it's decided that China will have no equal repercussions for their actions, is nothing more than a farce. This will be nothing more than a second attempt at the League of Nations, and we all saw how that turned out. If you truly want to maintain peace, if you truly want to have the power to hand down judgments, then it is reasonable that we all vote to condemn and remove China from their current position. If this demand is not met, then we will follow Japan out of the UN. The choice is now up to the rest of you."

Byelorussian-German Border

The Yaks continued their reconnaissance of the border, making a point to stay close enough to take good photos, but far enough as to keep themselves safe enough from any attacks. Vassili Andreevich, a radio operator at the radar base, picked up German aerial activity near the Yaks' location. He called in to inform them of the possible threat.

"This is Baranovichi Air Base. We have detected possible German aerial activity in your area. You can reasonably expect to see aircraft within the next few hours, over."

"This is Yak number twenty-three, we understand your warnings. We will continue staying east."

The Yaks were being escorted by fighter jets who decided to spread out. They wanted to keep the Yaks safe from any German attack, but were willing to allow them to provoke an attack.

The Yaks didn't back down and would stay for the rest of their mission. Soviet back up aircraft was being prepared in the instance that a confrontation occurred.

Moscow, Soviet Union

Stalin smiled at Secretary Okubo's request. "We will make the mutual defense treaty include a clause that an attack on one of us will constitute an all out war against the rest. This will for sure allow us to stay protected. Communism itself is an ideology that must be spread, but we cannot allow the West to stop us. I agree with you, Secretary."

To: Thorez of France
From: Premier Stalin

Dear Comrade,

The Soviet Union will attend the conference and will contribute to the defense of our ideology. We also strongly suggest signing a treaty that will bind each of us to each other. Together, we will strive.

"The majority of these are acceptable to us except for East Prussia, which is a majority German region. We are seeking to resolve issues here, not create more by giving handing over that land to Poland. As for the borders of the new Polish state the Generagouvernement as it is will do fine for administrative purposes, being a boundary that has already existed for some time while keeping the Germans satisfied with the amount of land they keep. However, we would be open to referenda in the lands owned by Poland as of 1939 on joining the new Polish state. The rest of your proposals are acceptable. The Treaty of Versailles was as good void and null as early as 1925 when our capacity to enforce it was ended. Hitler, Mosley, and Mussolini all exposed it as being unable to preserve European order, and that's about the only good thing any of them did."

Holmes turned to face Shvernik and looked down at him sternly so that he was seeing him unobstructed by his reading glasses. "To answer your question, Mr. Shvernik, yes. The British Empire is concerned with its self-preservation and I expect the Soviet Union to have a similar level of concern. We would indeed like to win this 'Cold War' which has emerged between the nations following the ideals of Adam Smith and those following the ideals of Karl Marx. We would like to have these referenda administered by this organization because we are concerned, understandably, that your country will attempt to interfere in them as you have proven yourselves to be fond of doing in Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria. However, a desire of ours that I certainly hope you would share is to avoid escalating this conflict into another all-out global war which would inevitably result in millions of more deaths than the last one. It is for that reason we are here. We will concede to you on the Chinese issue. It is the belief of our government as well that they have stepped across a line with their actions that was not to be crossed, something we have made clear in private meetings. We will support an official condemnation of their actions and a mandate for China to withdraw militarily from other East Asian countries, however, we will not tolerate economic sanctions nor their removal from this council. But in exchange, we will support an Indian bid for permanent Security Council membership that would bring the capitalist and communist members of this council up to an even ratio. Is this acceptable?"

The comet interceptor sighted the enemy convoy, the pilot turned on his radio;
"I've sighted the enemy reconnaissance convoy, I'm going in for the kill." The pilot turned off his radio not waiting for a response and boosted the throttle to maximum and itching his fingers over the trigger to unleash a hail of rockets and machine gun billets into the low quality soviet steel.

After receiving the transmission Hans panicked and looked desperately at his senior officer who was clueless. Hans took matters to his own hands and loaded the flak 88. His officer realised what he was doing and began to help out, the duo aimed at the comet and fired, launching a shell into the aircraft at blazings speeds.

As his finger contacted the trigger, the pilot realised his wing had snapped too late and his aircraft collided with one of the escort jet, killing the German pilot instantly and causing a loud explosion over the soviet border.

"Well done private, you've saved Germany from war, hopefully." The. SS officer retreated back into the HQ bunker to smoke a cigar. Hans returned to his position and hoped for a bright German future.

Mekong River Delta, January 1951

3 weeks it had been since Sergeant Adler went ashore with Ho Chi Minh and his guerilla command. He'd started growing a beard in that time, he noticed looking in a small shard of a mirror he had borrowed from another one of the British advisers. Indeed many of his habits that would have been rigorously attended to in the barracks at Herefordshire were forgotten here. In lieu of his jacket, he wore a simple khaki vest to cope with the heat of the humid Mekong Delta. He quickly washed the dirt off his face from the water from his canteen. Then a Vietnamese man who he and the other advisers called Billy walked up behind him. "Come Tommy, time to go." He said in his heavily accented English. "Of course." He answered, putting on his boonie hat and slinging his Arisaka rifle around the shoulder. The shipments of guns that "Ho Chi Minh's Hundred" had been sent back to Indochina with to supply the Viet Minh were all weapons captured from German, Japanese, or Fascist British forces during World War 2 or weapons from Imperial stockpiles so outdated they would avoid arousing suspicion. Billy carried a modern MAS-49, lucky enough to have taken one off a dead Frenchman.

In the low ground of the river delta, it was hard to distinguish where the ground ended and the shallow, brackish waters began. One had to be careful and watch their step. Adler's eyes adjusted to the blinding light that streamed through the tree canopy and saw around him the other men of the camp going about their morning routine. Cooking, washing, and cleaning guns. Billy and Adler went to the edge of the camp where three other Vietnamese men were waiting with their rifles. "Alright, the Captain and his men should be in position, they wait on us now. Let's move." Adler said in Vietnamese. The men nodded in understanding and walked behind him in a single file line out of the dense swamp where the men of Group 3, Operation 39 had their headquarters set up. They went for miles, up out of the swamp and into the forested land and rice paddies bordering the waters all leading to the ocean or further up the Mekong. One of the men in Adler's group stopped at one of the houses and hugged a woman there. The man, so characteristically tough the British advisers made jokes about him when they were together and speaking in English, broke down crying and said in Vietnamese he thought that the communists had destroyed his home. It was a touching scene to be sure, but Adler motioned for Billy to pry the two apart. Billy did some convincing and Nguyen - that was the man's name - said a tearful goodbye to his mother and promised to visit again. They continued onward to a highway, leading to Can Tho in one direction and Saigon in the other. A few armed men were loitering around the side of the road, by a ditch separating it from forested land. Adler walked up to them and said: "Ladies in Saigon are to carry parasols." In English. "But only on Sundays." The other replied, completing the code phrase.

"Captain Bryant and his men are up on the hill and the trees, right?" Adler asked

"Yeah, and the town people on other side are us too. Nowhere for Frenchie to run." The Vietnamese man said in the best English he could muster while grinning.

"Bloody good then, suppose the only thing left to do is for us to lay the dynamite. Tell the Captain that we will be ready on his go."

The other man gave an informal salute to Adler and ran back to the treeline with his compatriots while Adler and his men set to hiding bundles of dynamite hidden underneath leaves on the road, then wiring them to a plunger in the ditch where they covered themselves with foliage to hide. Billy climbed up into a palm tree, anchoring himself to the top with a length of rope he'd brought, and looked north along the road. All was going to plan, Adler thought. Some thirty minutes later after waiting and lying in the bush he finally heard the sound of motors up the road.

That's not right. He thought, checking his watch. They're twenty minutes off schedule.

Up in the tree he could see Billy frantically waving at him while doing his best not to be noticable and mouthing something at him. Then he heard it, the grinding, clacking sound of tank treads, a sound he hadn't heard in combat in many years. Adler wasn't overly religious but he prayed to God anyhow that Bryant was smart enough to remember the anti-tank weaponry. He whispered to the men beside him in Vietnamese "When I blow the charges, you run for the trees, no stopping for anything."

The sounds of motors and tank treads drew closer and closer until the shadows of the vehicles began blotting out the sun that shined over the ditch. Bryant made the decision to go against the plan and take out the second vehicle in the column, figuring the armored tank would be impervious to the bundles of explosives. He twisted the plunger and was rewarded by two deafening explosions behind him, the sound of engines going up in flames too. As planned he sprinted for the treeline without looking back with his men and was greeted by other Viet Minh insurgents who started firing on the French transport convory - An R35 tank, 4 Citroen trucks, and 2 armored cars built off of civilian models. The tank turned to the left and faced the Viet Minh in the treeline, firing both its machine guns and the cannons at the insurgents and keeping their heads down while French soldiers from the 2 surviving trucks unloaded and took up positions in the ditch opposite them. Everything was going to shit and fast, ahead of him Adler could see Billy's body dangling from the tree he was posted up in, suspended by the ankle by the rope which he used to tie himself to it. He felt a fresh rage well up within him and yelled out "We need molotovs!" In Vietnamese. Two insurgents took bottles filled with petrol out of their packs and brandished them. Adler shouted "Draw fire from them!" at the other insurgents who, being trained in Kuching, understood the necessity of the order and obeyed. Six men got up and ran into the ditch, one falling to machine gun fire. The diversion worked as the tank pointed its cannon at them, loading the gun to fire. The two men with molotovs lit the cloth stuffed into then and chucked them at the rear of the tank. The lit petrol splashed out onto the engine and seeped down into it before flames started spewing out of it. The commander shoved open the hatch to let out smoke and climbed out of his tank along with the crew, taking cover behind his now smoldering vehicle liable to blow.

The fortune of the Viet Minh seemed to turn. Adler could see Bryant leading a charge into the ditch from his side, and men lobbed hand grenades across the ditch. Some ran up to the armored cars whose crews were dazed and plunged their bayonets into the tires, preventing a getaway. Eventually, the numbers of the French dwindled to a point where they got up out of the ditch and attempted to run away from the road into the rice paddy on the adjacent side. They were greeted there by local guerillas, who fired on the bewildered troops who either dropped dead or dropped their weapons on the ground. The guerillas rounded prisoners up and Adler went to the rear of the now-smoking column, where Bryant and his men were trying to force open the two immobilized armored cars who had crews still inside. He watched the Viet Minh pry or otherwise force the doors open and watched as they dragged uniformed men out of one car, one of whom was seated next to a local girl of questionable age dressed in the outfit of a courtesan, treated no better by the partisans than those she was serving. The others did not go so quietly, and the Vietnamese who pried the door open were greeted from the inside by pistol fire from Frenchmen who tried to fight their way out to no avail, as they found themselves riddled with bullets from the group's two Type 99 machine guns. Adler met with Bryant and set his rifle in one hand to shake hands with the other.

"Job well bloody done considering the circumstances I'd say." Bryant remarked.

"Aye, true, we lost our best man though." Adler lamented.

"It's war, son. Folks die, including the ones you like. Thought you would've learned that back in '42."

"Well let's not get into the philosophical. What've we got here?" Adler asked, pointing at their captives.

"3 senior officers of the French red army being reassigned to the regional HQ in Saigon. One of em's a bloody colonel."

"Well Saint fucking George-"

"Ah, that's blasphemy Sergeant, can't have you doing that." Bryant chided.

"Fine then, bugger it." Adler conceded.

One of the French officers who now had his hands bound and was under guard staggered to his feet and snarled in English "You are fucking Englishmen, you! When I am free and I tell my superiors of this there will be Hell to pay for you and your damnable country!"

Bryant strided over to the officer and said "Oh trust me good sir I'll make sure that won't be happening. This uh... prostitute here of yours" he said, motioning towards the courtesan girl before going on. "will get fair treatment but for the rest of you all I can't promise that. This is the buggering Viet Minh, Frenchie. It's tiger cages and Russian roulette for you. Unless of course, you talk. Dao! Take these chaps here, get them going back to camp. Remember, blindfolds." A Viet Minh officer and the men under his command took the French officers off, putting crude sacks over their heads or blindfolding them to disorient them. Adler lit up the last of his cigarettes and walked over to the tree he had started at to go and bury his friend.

In North Hanoi

A company of Chinese troops with 5 Sherman tanks with long barreled 75 mm guns are on patrol near the border of French held South Hanoi when a corporal spots 2 figures running across the line between Chinese held North Hanoi and French held South Hanoi. The Chinese troops start running after the figures telling them to stop at once or be fired on. The figures turn out to be two French Red Army officers, one a captain and the other a major. When ask why they are here, the two Frenchman told the Chinese captain that they never liked the way their country went politically and were waiting for the right moment to go AWOL. The two former French officers ask the captain if the Chinese were willing to grant them Asylum in exchange for information. The Chinese captain started making calls up the chain of command about the asylum seekers and was told that two military intelligence officers were on the down from Beijing to talk with the Frenchmen.

Sarawak

For over a week, representatives from all across Southeast Asia met to discuss relations between their recently independent nations. With the recent politician upheaval in the region, and the newly independent states, this conference was important for determining the fate of Southeast Asia. Today marked the end of the 1951 Southeast Asian Conference in Kuala Lumpur between all of the independent nations of Southeast Asia, with several nations given observer status in the meeting too. Following several days of controversial negotiations, the various countries in the regions agreed on the level of diplomatic relations that they would each pursue. Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Sarawak signed the Treaty of Kuala Lumpur, thus bringing into existence the Southeast Asian Treaty Organization, also known as SEATO. The other nations and territories of Southeast Asia were granted observer status with the possibility of future accession, while China, the USA, and the British Empire were granted observer status. Burma is in the process of negotiations, as is Indonesia. Due to a large party of expansionists existing in Indonesia, and their recent independence, it has been decided that more negotiations are needed before they can be let in. Ceremonially, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam were granted observer status. SEATO, and other Southeast Asian states, do not recognize the French occupation and currently recognize their colonies as occupied nations.

SEATO is a political, economic, and defense treaty with the intentions of ensuring good ties in Southeast Asia, while also protecting each members sovereignty. The treaty is designed to slowly work towards economic integration to ensure that its members economies can grow as fast as possible and without being exploited by other nations. The goal is not complete economic union, but rather, to work as a single trade bloc to compete against other nations. There is a planned “Council of Southeast Asian Nations”, or CSEAN for short, which will deal with disputes between members and perhaps one day create common laws. However, the level of its power is still being debated amongst Southeast Asian leaders. Perhaps the most important aspect of SEATO is a common defense treaty. The defense aspects of the organization grant all members mutual protection, while also ensuring military access so long as a notice is given ahead of time. This was signed due to French presence in Southeast Asia and also fears of Chinese aggression. Ultimately, SEATO’s goal is not to be a powerful alliance, but rather, to protect Southeast Asia from harmful foreign influence.

SEATO has become popular in Sarawak, especially the defense aspects of the treaty. Some people were worried that even with British protection, Sarawak’s size would make it vulnerable to foreign aggression. SEATO, combined with Imperial assistance, essentially guarantees Sarawak’s independence in the face of foreign conflict. The economic stipulations enjoy the support of the populace as well, many people believe it will speed up Sarawak’s recovery from WW2.

The Chinese government sends a congratulations to the members of SEATO and tells them that should the French do anything, China will support them. China tells SEATO that they have no plans to attack them in the future. China announces to the world that they will be releasing Vietnam as a fully independent nation with pro western leanings.
