I must be mad. This is a character-based RP centered around a ship, based on animu space operas, though I admit I've only watched one (Legend of the Galactic Heroes), so here. :3

Now Playing: Darkness - Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These OST 1

Synopsis

2321 C.E. Pleiades Cluster. Long after the first human seedships arrive in the cluster, the colonies of humanity had struggled and thrived in the inhospitable depths of space. Interstellar empires building on knowledge left behind by their Terran predecessors had been forged, and secrets left behind by strangers long gone had been uncovered and reverse-engineered for humanity’s benefit. The history of the Pleiades was one not too different from old Earth. With war and peace interspaced between one another in its short existence in the stars, the disparate nations of the Pleiades have contributed its fair share to humanity’s grim story.

That was, until Earth returned.

In 2297 C.E., unknown vessels of sleek design hailed the Pleiades in a long forgotten tongue. Calling themselves the Terran Empire, the descendants of humanity’s ruined homeworld and its Solar colonies seek to reclaim the legacy of the old nations of Earth. Slowly, they seized a foothold of the cluster, playing the bickering nations against each other with the promise of power and bounty. With an alliance against Terran aggression fragile and fleeting, the disparate navies of the Pleiades have been swept away one by one. But one ship refused to back down, even in the face of absolute disaster. That ship is our home and the hope of the Seven Sisters.

As cadets of a newly inaugurated cohort of the Athenian Navy, your lives as newly commisioned officers and personnel of the Salamis has taken a turn for the worst, as the Terran Empire moves in to annex the entire Merope region. Faced with the prospect of being rolled into Terra's bloody conquests as part of the Auxilia, you and your new crew mutinied against orders to disarm, escaping from the doomed vessel to commandeer a relic of the early colonial era, the Themistocles. With the odds stacked against you, can you raise the flag of rebellion against the Terran despots? Your odyssey begins here.

Background

Image

The Pleiades of 2321 C.E. resemble much like the world it left behind before contact with Earth mysteriously blacked out over a century ago. Called the Collapse, the early years of hardship in the late 21st Century and early 22nd was marked by a full halt in terraforming and colony construction, and a decay in technological progress. Many worlds were left only partially terraformed, and the harsh existence eked out by the colonists had claimed the lives of many. Those fortunate enough to maintain space flight found entire societies degraded to medieval or even Palaeolithic levels, and it would only be until the 23rd Century that it would fully recover from the dark age of its early colonization. It took a young visionary, Aléxandros of Pella, to reunite the Pleiades under a single banner. Whether with promises of power and riches, or sheer brute force, the Federation of the Pleiades reached the greatest extent of human achievement in its short, tragic existence.

His untimely death upon returning from the ill-fated expedition into Indus shattered the Federation beyond repair, and ambitious generals who had once fought under his banner now vie for supremacy. Called the Diadochi, or successors, the warring states of the Pleiades devolved into petty kingdoms and statelets, often splitting entire systems and even worlds between themselves. In all, no one entity dominated the entire cluster as it had under Aléxandros, a condition most beneficial to a looming power from humanity’s lost homeworld.

Without warning, a vast fleet arrived in the untamed, outer fringes of the Pleiades, sleek and grand, almost alien in design. They speak a language lost long in human history, and yet well preserved in the fragmented knowledge of the Pleiades. They called themselves the Terran Empire, inheritors of the broken remains of Earth and its ancient terrestrial coalition, the United Nation. Seizing control of the fringe warlord states, Terra claimed themselves as the sole representatives of all humanity, and thus, the people of the Pleiades. For some, the looming threat of Terra and its newly founded province of Ilyria was a warning of dire things to come. For others, it was a sign of great opportunity, reconnecting with the lost cradle of humanity to obtain untapped riches and power. Any hope of a united opposition against Terran role was quickly quashed, as internecine warfare continued to plague the Pleiades. Soon, it was not long before Terra made its move, absorbing one vulnerable state after another into its growing dominion.

At the forefront of the brewing conflict was Athenai, a free city-state between Terra and the rest of the Pleiades. Bordering the Terran-aligned League of Merope in the cluster of the same name, its cosmopolitan nature made it an epicentre of culture and commerce throughout the Pleiades. However, growing influence from Terra had stirred discontent among the colonies of Merope, and revolt now plagues Athenai’s borders. Even among the students in Athenai’s prestigious naval academy rumours of an uprising against Terra were abounding. And with Merope’s war with Terra doomed to failure, few expected the Terrans to leave Athenai alone either. With the graduating class of 5-B on their maiden voyage abroad an Athenian detachment fleet, a choice would soon have to be made. Would they cave in to Terran tyranny or will they fight the face of hopelessness?

Society

Despite humanity’s vain hopes of First Contact, the Pleiades proved, so far, to be devoid of intelligent alien life. What life they had found were no more developed than plants and animals, many of which were left in euphemistically designated ‘nature preserves’ overrun with foreign, Earth-based lifeforms. What other ‘non-humans’ that exist among humanity had been products of unethical experiments on human test subjects before the Collapse. Forming an underclass of so-called demi-humans, these genetically altered colonists, possessing feral mammalian features or distinct alterations in physiology and features, face constant discrimination due to their roles as thralls or even pets in pre-Collapse society.

Regardless, the various colonies of the Pleiades feature a great level of admixture as a result of the collapse, with few defining features uniting any one nation. The legacy of Alexandros’ Hellenophile reforms, such as an ‘official’ Greek tongue and the embrace of an archaeo-nationalist, Hellenistic culture, proved the greatest distinctive traits of the Pleiades. Still, most, like Gyptos, Fars and Balkh, had managed to form their own unique identities, irrespective or because of the dominant society of their colonies. The legacy of pre-Collapse civilization remains strong, though two centuries of separation had set it apart from their predecessors.

Nations and Worlds

Image

While the Pleiades consisted of more than just the principal stars that make up the cluster, the worlds and star systems are generally organized around these stars, named after the Seven Sisters and their parents, Atlas and Pleione. Colonized by the most powerful blocs of old Earth, the Pleiades is as diverse as it is fractious. But the conquests of Alexandros had brought some semblance of unity to the Pleiades. The question is, do the myriad peoples of the colonies want that unity, especially from Terra?

Regions:
  • Maia (Μαῖα) - Largely settled by allies of the United States before the Collapse, Maia is the home system of Gyptos, led by one of the Diadochi.
  • Electra (Ἠλέκτρα) - Settled by the allies of the Eurasian Union before the Collapse, Electra is currently being contested between Seleukeia and Assur, both led by rival Diadochi.
  • Taygete (Ταϋγέτη) - Largely settled by Gulf States and India under the auspices of the United Nations, Taygete is home to Indus, the only independent nation to successfully resist Alexandros' conquest. The satrap of Balkh, under the suzerain of Seleukeia, and various city-states are also in the region.
  • Alcyone (Ἀλκυόνη) - Jointly settled by the United States and European Union, Alcyone is home to various states largely untouched by Alexandros' conquests, such as Birka.
  • Celaeno (Κελαινώ) - Largely settled by the Eurasian Union and allied countries in the Middle East before the Collapse, Celaeno is the home cluster of Seleukeia.
  • Sterope (Στερόπη) - Settled by China, Sterope is home to the Later Xia.
  • Merope (Μερόπη) - Largely settled by the European Union before the Collapse, Merope is host to the Terran province of Hellas, along with several city-states.
  • Atlas (Ἄτλας) - Settled by the United States and Latin American allies, Atlas is home to the Citlalli, a confederation of city-states untouched by Alexandros' conquests
  • Pleione (Πληιόνη) - Settled by the United States and Latin American allies, Pleione is home to the Inti, a kingdom untouched by Alexandros' conquests

Merope

Image

The home region of Alexandros of Pella, Merope is the most distant of the Pleiades. Primarily colonized by the European Space Agency, most of the worlds and systems of Merope have taken on a European character, save for the US-controlled Corinth and Thebes (Korinthos and Thebai), Russian-held Spartak (Sparta) and the UN-administered Athenai. Since the breakup of Alexandros' empire, the star systems of Merope had become a launching point for the Terran Empire and its ally, the League of Merope. However, tensions over the extent of Terran influence in the cluster had led to widespread discontent within the League, and war soon broke out between the two, with Terra slated for an easy victory...

A former UN-administered world for refugee populations, Athenai (Ancient Greek: Ἀθῆναι, Athênai) was named after the famed Greek city-state of Athens, as well as the city of Athens, Ontario, birthplace of UN representative of the Pleiades, Greg Burns. A repository of knowledge from Earth and a home for millions of destitute from across the world, Athenai had developed into a cosmopolitan world, surviving the Collapse through sheer grit and the rapid reformation of the local UN government into a functioning, if fragile democracy. Boasting a powerful, pre-Collapse navy cobbled together from the remnants of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Pleiades, it soon developed proud naval traditions in emulation of the ancient city-state. Its Naval Academy has seen many prestigious admirals graduate from its halls, including foreign students from the neighbouring worlds of Merope and beyond. But the arrival of the formidable Terran navy had sent shockwaves across Athenai. While their navy had the experience and talent, they had nowhere near the size of the ‘Empire of a Thousand Suns’. As such, with the Meropean-Terran War turning for the worst, it was becoming increasingly unlikely that the grand city-state could maintain its independence much longer.

Once a penal colony controlled by the Russian-led Eurasian Union, Spartak (Russian: Спартак) was originally named after the legendary Roman slave rebel Spartacus, a symbol for communist and socialist revolutionaries. A harsh mining world, Spartak’s wardens had once administered the planet and its outlying moons with brutal repression, with criminals, prisoners-of-war and inconvenient minorities sent here from Earth and other colonies for the slightest of infractions. The Collapse that separated the penal worlds and clusters from their home countries led to widespread revolts across the systems. Within years, rival warlords made up of ex-convicts or rogue wardens vie for control over their planets. Most fell into disrepair and barbarism, easy pickings for larger empires such as Alexandros’ Pella and Terra. But one world emerged from the chaos, united by the former garrison commander of the planet, Lev Fischer, under a military dictatorship. In the years after his death, his son would posthumously crown him – and himself – king, renaming the world to shed its revolutionary roots in favour of the famed military prowess - and repression - of the warrior city-state.

Spartak had become Sparta (Doric Greek: Σπάρτα, Spártā, Спарта).

Under the House of Löwe, Sparta sought at every level to live up to its name. Geared entirely towards military efficiency, the city-state went as far as introducing an infamous military training regimen modelled and named after the Spartan Agoge. At birth, children are pre-selected between a life as a Spartan soldier, and indentured servitude in the outlying cities. Free, non-citizen folk often filled jobs abhorred by the Spartans, such as craftwork and commerce, and their emulation of Sparta grew so much that even their rivalry with the cosmopolitan world of Athenai was mimicked. But in the years after Alexandros’ conquest of most of the Pleiades, Sparta had been forced into a crippling decline. Its refusal to join Alexandros in his quest to unify the stars – the only nation in Merope to do so - had left it friendless in the system. Its recent subjugation by the Terran-allied League of Merope had also left a lot of bitterness among the Spartan citizenry. But the worst, perhaps, was yet to come, as Sparta cynically declared neutrality in the Meropean-Terran War. While no love would be lost in the League’s inevitable defeat, Sparta may not escape unscathed themselves.

League of Merope

Image

Founded after the collapse of the Alexandrian Empire, the League of Merope consist of most of the planet-states of the cluster not under Terran control. Originally a small confederacy intended to protect its sovereignty from the remnants of the Kingdom of Pella and Epirus, the League entered into a fortuitous alliance with the Terran Empire, a new player in the Pleiades. Since then, the latter's annexation of Pella and Epirus into its new Theme of Hellas, and growing influence in local affairs had soured relations between the two. Whipped up by hysteria, the League finally declared war on its former ally a few months before. But outmatched by the vastly superior Terran fleet, its defeat proved imminent.

For a confederation of mostly European-settled worlds, the League is led by the American-settled world of Korinthos. While reputed to be a virtual penal world for populations in the US Deep South, as Sparta was, Corinth and Thebes soon became the leading powers of the League. And with migrations throughout the Pleiades, their collective identities, as with elsewhere, has seen a slight dilution, making the worlds more cosmopolitan in nature. Still, this admixture is nothing compared to Athenai, which had remained outside the League with Terran help. Sparta, on the other hand, had been forcibly incorporated as a member (also with Terran assistance), though the outbreak of war had allowed it to declare neutrality, effectively breaking ties to the benefit of the invading Terrans.

Theme of Hellas (Terran Empire)
Terra's foothold in the Pleiades, the Theme of Hellas thus far includes the worlds formerly belonging to the kingdoms of Pella and Eperios (Latin: Epirus). The former, Alexandros' former homeworld, was once a remnant of his former empire before the Terran conquest, and is now the launching point in Terra's quest to bring the Pleiades under their control. With the League of Merope engaged in a suicidal war against Terra's small but professional garrison, they may yet get their wish. The question is, would they attract too much attention from the greater powers of the Pleiades, and would this have untold consequences to their mission?

Maia
Image

The home cluster of the kingdom of Gyptos, Maia's unusual blend of science and faith had never been more paradoxical. Relatively isolated from the rest of the cluster, but not completely detached, Maia had long been home to settlers of a more religious shade, from the dwindling and long-persecuted Copts of Alexandria-of-Maia, to the Mormon pioneers of New Nauvoo. But Alexandros' conquest of Maia had transformed the cluster from a smattering of often feuding states to a unified entity. From the death of the conqueror, his general and Alexandrian native George Moussa, built for himself a land truly fit for God, Gyptos. Having brought the feuding Christian sects under his new Oriental Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria-of-Maia, the Diadochi now sought to expand his influence into the neighbouring systems, often coming to blows with Seleukeia and Assur. But with the arrival of the rabidly neopagan Terran Empire, how Gyptos' play on the delicate balance of power will pan out is still anyone's guess.

Electra

Celaeno

Image

The home cluster of Seleukeia, Celaeno is a region heavily divided. As with Electra, most of the worlds in Celaeno had been settled by the Eurasian Union and the Iranian-led Zulfiqar Coalition, a means in which the ruling governments of old Earth expel their most troublesome populations. However, rising to power after the death of Alexandros, the Haanrath dynasty, one of the Diadochi, came to dominate the cluster, drawing from its support in the fringe worlds of the Nuewtrekkers and other minorities. Since, the systems had endured an uneasy peace between the Nuwetrekker overlords and their majority non-Germanic population. And with wars on several fronts, and a despotic leadership under the new Stadtholder Janus Haanrath, Celaeno may yet become a new epicenter of conflict and revolt in the Pleiades.

Taygete

Image

Unlike most of its surrounding clusters, the worlds that make up Taygete were, at least officially, populated by descendants of free colonists. But the reality of the ruins - many of which are still inhabited today - that dot Taygete belie a grim truth. In the days of early colonization, only some of worlds in the cluster were earmarked for colonization by free settlers, either under the auspices of the United Nations or driven by the fledging ambitions of India. Many of the worlds in Taygete were official Arab League possessions, controlled by oil magnates as personal fiefdoms and built by millions of migrant workers from the Indian subcontinent. Operating outside the regular rules of the UN and with standards eerily comparable to the penal worlds of its neighbours, the indentured workers toiled in squalid conditions, transforming the worlds to befit the quirks of their employers. Some were to be planetwide mines and oil dumps; others as luxury megapoli. A few were even earmarked as theme parks, ranging from classical fantasy, cultural showcases to retro-futuristic fairs. All that, however, came crashing down with the Collapse, as the workers soon rose up against their tyrannical employers. Joining their free brethren, they federated into what is now Indus, though some worlds opted to remain apart.

Since, the cluster had only seen even greater changes, from the mass exodus of people from the Later Xia, to Alexandros' abortive campaign in Taygete. Today, the cluster is a hodgepodge of cultures, from the Sino-Tibetan exile states, to the Seleucid satrapy of Balkh. But none had withstood the tests of time more than Indus, which held on to its past far stronger than even the Gyptoids. A diverse mix of peoples from the subcontinent, migrant cultures and even heavily modified demihumans born from the megalomania of the pre-Collapse era, Indus, and Taygete as a whole, remains a colourful spectrum in an otherwise grim universe.

Sterope

Now Playing: synthenicsuiteNT-no1 by Hiroyuki Sawano - Gundam Narrative OST

Image

Once the dumping ground for dissident elements and undesirable minorities for the old Chinese Communist regime, Sterope's recent past remained deeply rooted in its earthly origins, an amalgamation of populations from restive provinces and cities. A bureaucratic morass of corrupt officials and disgraced party exiles running over virtual penal worlds with sheer brute force, the Collapse paved away for a period of total anarchy, as a myriad of states - many no bigger than the nations of old Earth - vied for control over the shattered worlds. What filled the void, in what is now known as the Warring States Period, was the Later Xia (Mandarin: 後夏/后夏, Hòu Xià). Taking its name after the legendary 'first' dynasty of China, the Later Xia consolidated its grip on the cluster, espousing the traditions and beliefs once eschewed by the atheist Communist government. To that end, Neo-Confucian meritocracy became the official mandate, and every aspect of its governance was to be purged of Amero-European influence in favour of the ancient Chinese dynasties.

And yet, with its obsession with heavenly order, the Xia would prove no different than its forebears. Rule of the imperial court was absolute, and dissent was quelled at the tip of a sword. Entire populations were often expelled into deep space in decrepit non-FTL ships, left to fend for themselves. Outlying worlds outside its home systems became dens of corruption, with dwindling oversight from the central government rewarding greed and indolence. Those who could escape joined descendants of earlier exiles and refugees elsewhere in the Pleiades. But any attempt at revolt proved fleeting for now, as the Mandate of Heaven showed little signs of fracturing.

Atlas

One of the two 'parent' stars of the Pleiades, Atlas and Pleione had largely developed outside the influence of Alexandros' war of unification. While the chaos of the Collapse had led to anarchy and technological degradation throughout the Pleiades, two powers successfully rose from the crumbling morass in the 'parent' clusters. From Atlas, one civilization managed to hold on to the vast knowledge of pre-Collapse civilization and technology through unorthodox means. Calling themselves the Citlalli, or 'star people', in their native Nahuatl language, its inhabitants had adopted augmentations to such an extent that their people could scarcely be called human. Other city-states outside the Citlalli generally shun their cloistered society or revile it for its unethical practices. Still, from the vast, neon-lit ziggaruts and planet-wide metropoli, one could scarcely call them ' backward' or primitive.

The home system of the Terran Empire and the origin of all humanity, Sol (or the Solar System) was once the proverbial center of the universe, where the terrestrial nations of Earth brought their people to settle in the stars. The Collapse which severed contact between Sol and the rest of humanity caused a cataclysm that wiped out any trace of pre-Collapse civilization in the system, a distant memory carried by the lost and bewildered colonies in the outer galaxy. As for the survivors in Sol’s various worlds and moons, their fall from grace as the guiding star of human civilization had hit them especially hard. By the time the restored Terran Republic came to power, its control over the stars had shrunk to the system itself. Regardless, most star maps remain oriented towards Sol, and with increasing contact with the Terran Empire, the long-distance trade and ideas that had flourished before the Collapse is slowly being rebuilt. But Sol’s new masters did not appear satisfied with mere contact and trade with humanity’s distant colonies, for in their hearts and minds; there is only room for one empire, the inheritors of humanity’s cradle and the centre of the universe.

Born from the ashes of old Earth, the Senate and People of Terra are dedicated to one goal and one goal only, the restoration of humanity’s homeworld as the centre of all humankind. The nuclear destruction that had ignited the Collapse and destroyed the once beautiful blue planet had become a collective trauma burned into the Terran psyche, which had reorganized themselves on Mars and fought decades of fractious wars to unify the entire Solar System. Under Gaius Marius, the Terran Republic centred on Olympus Mons saw the final restoration of control over all of Sol, conquering the rebellious outposts on Mars, Luna, Jupiter and Saturn’s moons, and the Asteroid Belt. With his coronation as Augustus, Gaius set about the reformation of Terran society after the ancient Roman Empire, setting about the arduous work of cleaning up the destruction on Earth and re-establishing contact with humanity’s lost colonies. Whether by peaceful means or violent subjugation, its hold on the universe expands ever slowly, conquering Alpha Centauri and other nearby stars. Its hold on the Pleiades, however, is recent and tenuous, centred around the fringes of Merope. Regardless, the Terrans had come to see the ‘savages’ of the Pleiades in need of enlightenment and remain intent on bringing the entire constellation and its warring factions under its control.

While the Moon’s colonies largely consisted of closed-off cities sealed in craters, Mars was completely transformed from the infamous red planet to the heart of Terra’s reclamation project. The birthplace of Gaius Marius Augustus, Mars’ nascent government – the first attempt at a unified planetary government separate from the now-destroyed United Nations – was quashed by the fiercely pro-Terran general, who created the Terran Republic with the aim of restoring Earth to its former glory. Ironically, while officially designated a ‘refuge’ where its people could await their triumphant return to Earth, most Terrans across its vast domain had come to see Mars as the centre of the empire. With the senate and the current Augustus reluctant to make their final move to the still partially-ruined Earth, Martian identity had become synonymous with Terran identity, and despite the late Gaius’ wishes, it is unlikely that his Martian empire would ever make the final step to fulfil its destiny.

      • Bio: The birthplace of all humanity, Terra was, for countless millenia, the only world humanity ever known. The bright stars which illuminate the skies could not hope to match the bright blue and green hue of this lonely planet, and humanity had sought above all to transcend the stars, an achievement that would only be made in the last four hundred years of its short existence.

But for all the dreams of humanity setting their roots in the myriad stars, it was never a unified people. The old nation-states of Earth competed to bring their flags and peoples to the myriad galaxies outside, and with these rivalries came conflict. And then, one faithful day, the pristine blue planet, ailing from centuries of misuse by its lone, intelligent lifeforms, lost its bright blue hue. In a space of a few minutes, everything on Earth was reduced to a blaze of hellfire and horror, tarnishing its once legendary beauty for eons to come.

For those who are either unfortunate or too stubborn to leave, life on the planet had become a hellscape beyond reckoning. Twisted lifeforms roam the broken planet, as the planet sought to struggle on. Holdouts throughout the planet were left to fend for themselves, as manic raiders and monsters alike pillage the irradiated wasteland. Its ultimate insult, however, was when its barren skies were greeted with the fleets of Martians who covet the prestige of controlling humanity's former epicenter. Designated the official capital and a sanctified preserve, the Terran Empire that came to control Terra had swept aside what little resistance offered by the survivors, usurping the very name held by the true, battered remnants of the Terran people.

Life under Martian rule, for all its humiliations, was still a vast improvement from the grim realities immediately after the Collapse. With settlements protected in Luna-type dome cities, Terra was, for once, seeing signs of recovery. Honoured as 'those who stayed behind', the True Terrans had become a special caste of their own, often serving as scribes and guides for pilgrims from across the Terran Empire. Those deemed hardened by the harsh environment were inducted into their own legion, the Legio I Terra, as do shipwrights in their own vessels in the Classis I Sol fleet. However, the stigma of radiation poisoning proved insurmountable, deemed unclean and quarantined from the general population by their distant, Martian leaders. It soon became cold comfort to be a survivor of Terra's destruction, and a veiled insult to their very identity as Terrans.

Applications
As a student and cadet in the Athenian Naval Academy, you have come from all across the Pleiades to attend the prestigious institute to better yourself and your home navies. With the breakdown of communication between the vast galaxies of old Earth, most of those attending the academy are natives of the Pleiades. And given tensions between the worlds of Merope and Terra, cadets from the Terran Armed Forces, whether native to the Pleiades or elsewhere in the Terran Empire, will be subjected to heavy restrictions, admitted only via written permission from the Chief of Staff (OOC: OP approval only, so don't spam Terran characters unless you have a very good backstory and reasoning).

Character Information (Compulsory)
Name: Lieutenant Commander Soraya A. Härkönen
Age: 24
Birthplace: Pyreus Space Station Medical Wing, Athenai orbit
Zodiac Sign: Pisces
Blood Type: B
Modificatons: -Intramedullary Titanium Rods in legs & arms
- Auxiliary "Blood Cell" nanites in bloodstream
- Interfaceable Virtual HUD, implanted in the cornea of both eyes
- Post-Birth Body Design
Desired Positions (please rank 3):
[list=1][*]-Executive Officer/list]
Appearance (picture link is preferred): Reacting to news of Terran fleet movements

Physical Description (Optional)
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 60 kg
Likes: TBA
Dislikes: TBA
Personality: Phlegmatic, Introverted, Creative, Responsible

History (Compulsory)
Bios: The Härkönen lineage reaches back to the days of Old Earth, according to possibly apocryphal evidence linking the distinct phenotype of the family as being the result of Irani refugees coming in contact with Finnish UN troops during the time of mass Middle Eastern unrest known as the Gulf Ecatomb. However, any traceable record of the Härkönens starts in the early days of Athenian independence from Terran control. Deeply entwined in the structure of the Athenian navy, multiple Harkonens served as midshipmen, commanders and first mates in the various post-Collapse wars which plagued the Merope cluster.

Born a few decades before the Terran reclamation of the Pleiades, Soraya was accustomed to life in the vacuum ever since birth, groomed by her mother Naoko Cortez while stationed in the Pyreus Space Station. Her second name, Aina, honored the late mother of Darius Härkönen, Commodore in the Athenian Fleet and Soraya's father. Even though her computer-assisted education suggested an artistic-creative path, Darius' desire to induct his only daughter in the family traditions trumped the protests of his wif. Similarly, the wide spectrum of body modification the young girl was subjected to was also mostly determined by the elder Härkönen's ambitions. Soraya's upbringing progressed in the schools of the Athenian elite, planetside. Brilliant marks in the humanities were often marred by just as sufficient scores in technical subjects. Even then, some well placed words by Darius permitted Soraya to access the Athenian Naval Academy despite shortcomings.

A combination of name recognition, networking and sufficiently brilliant skills in crew management and spur of the moment thinking eventually permitted Soraya to become cadet XO onboard the Salamis, an uneasy command in uneasy times, as the astral politics of the Pleiades quickly decayed.

Additional Information (Optional):The Härkönen have positive appeal in Athenian military circles, even though accusations of nepotism are often levied in the corners of mess rooms and command decks. Frequent wars against Sparta have built the family ancient grudges or honourable rivalries with a wealth of Spartiate nobles and military brass. The family has noticeably always kept neutral in Athenian politics, and is nonetheless considered a neutral supporter of the democratic institutions of the planet-state.

Seems pretty interesting, I won't reserve anything just yet since I don't want to risk doing that and not actually applying soon, but I'm interested in doing something with the fighter wing. I'll take a look at the lore more in depth before apping.

Modificatons:

Desired Positions (please rank 3):
  1. Enlisted Marine
  2. Combat Pilot
  3. Fighter Technician
Appearance: Cyka Blyat

Physical Description (Optional)
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 130 lbs
Likes: Cursing, violent movies, instigating fights.
Dislikes: Fluffy stuff, bright colors, happy-go-lucky people.
Personality: Loud mouthed, arrogant, easy to anger, but has a singular drive to accomplish a mission. Also, her sheer force of will can carry any team.

History (Compulsory)
Bios: Yekaterina was one millions of kids born in the hell hole that was the former penal planet of Sparta. As you could guess, crime, poverty, and death, was just a part of daily life as anything else. The Psuedo-Spartan culture of the planet paved the way for many hardships and in turn, left many children orphaned. Yekaterina became one of these orphans when her parents were killed during a series of massacres that seem to happen annually.

It didn't take long for the Spartan officials to pick Yekaterina up off the streets and thrown into Agoge, like most children who were fit and healthy. Here is where she experienced the worst years of her life. During her brutal training as a warrior, she received many harsh beatings, almost to the point of death. As each day past, Yekaterina endured more and more of the immoral training methods of her home world. It was her natural instincts to survive that kept her going. Incidentally, it was that same instinct that caught the attention of officials and they continued to push her to more extremes to find her breaking point.

One such test was a three on one sparring match that ended up being a fight to the death. Yekaterina was pinned down by three of her opponents while one crushed her right arm with a large rock, shattering every bone in her arm. When it became clear that they would do the same to her head, Yekaterina went berserk. Relying on her rage and survival instinct, she killed them all before passing out from the pain.

The Spartan Officials gave her a new cybernetic arm as a reward for her superior combat prowess while wounded, but they also gave her another modification. Realizing that her anger was dangerous, they chemically altered her irises to change color with her mood. That way, they'll be able to know exactly when her rage would set in and plan accordingly.

While recovering from the surgeries, Yekaterina had time to think about what it is that she wanted out of life. She knew that Sparta would only use her as a weapon and discard her when she's all used up. The path that she was on was certainly one that would lead her to an early grave in the cruelest way possible. She had to leave Sparta and get as far away from the planet as possible. Yekaterina would desert in her last year in the Agoge.

After months of careful planning and digging around, Yekaterina found an Athenian vessel and pilot to smuggle her off the planet and get her to Athenai. She was smuggled out without a hitch along with a group of helots. Once on Athenai, she immediately signed up for the naval academy, seeing it as the only career for someone with her skill set. Much like the entrance exam, the academy training itself was a cake walk compared to what she had endured her entire life. Yekaterina earned high marks in almost every category, scoring higher than most of her Athenian counterparts, especially when it came to physical aptitude tests. Her graduation came as no surprise to her higher ups and now she's set to prove herself yet again in the field.

Bios:
History The man, or boy in this case, had no traditional name to go by. CCA.6756.SeC-17 was his name, or Combine Civil Authority, Sector 17, 6756. His allegiance, birthplace and code-number. Essentially, a child soldier. Let's call the boy by a simpler name, 56. He was born under normal means as we do today. A communist government of the name, Oum People’s Republic, was 56 under. 56 was taken away from his parents to commit to a life of soldier-ing. By the time of 18, 56 was a career professional. At the time, the Oum People’s Republic was at war with Lev Fischer’s own faction. Thus, 56 was sent often to the front-lines to do defenses and offenses in the name of the People’s Will.

There was not much in-between his early adult-life to what his 40s to talk about. 56 would fight on many more theatres and just do what a soldier do - go kill. He would get wounded in the fighting and then be healed as per normal for his job. Downtime was almost non-existent as 56 was shifted from front to front. The only hobby that 56 had was war-knowledge and the various books that he read upon war theory as recommended by his training.

By the time of the fall of the Oum People’s Republic under Lev Fischer, 56 was 50. He had escaped with what was left of his ideology and people to space. From there, 56 was placed into a cryo pod to sleep...for 200 years….His spaceship would later be in the orbit of Athenai before getting recovered.

On the planet of Athenai, 56 was interrogated as they found about 56's past. Intrigued, they send 56, now called, Bob Echo, to Boot Camp once Bob as upon his request. Bob passed without issue. 35 plus years of warfare does many things to a man. After that, Bob signed up to be a instructor - which he also passed quickly. So now, Bob was placed upon a ship to whip up some new recruits as per his job.

OOC Information
RP Example:
Orion Offensive
June 9th, 2310, Outskirts of Orion Prison Facility
4th Shock Army, 9th Motor-Rifle Division.

What used to be the Orion Prison Facility is now a fortress for Lev Fischer’s armies. The 10th, 12th, 8th, 7th, and 1st Infantry Division had taken up resident in the Orion Prison - fortifying the hell of the place for weeks on-end. The bastards have been holding up in there for a year now ever since last year of today. In a effect to remove those hostile elements, the 4th Shock Army was called upon to conduct a direct assault before a breakthrough effort could be done by incoming cores from the south. Lev Fischer’s divisions was going to pay dearly. The Orion Offensive beings.

COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO was stuffed inside a big APC with other twenty of his comrades. The terrain was bumpy and uneven, which caused the APC to shake all about. It was extremely hot inside too (there was not any AC as the Maintenance crew forget to repair it) COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO didn't care. The worse had yet to come as he thinks to himself. Soon, bodies will fly and people will scream.

After a few minutes, the gunfire started. They were approaching the Orion Prison Facility. Explosions were heard after - it was either landmines or artillery or both. Everyone, including COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO, was calm. Just another day on the job.

“Dispatch.” A loud voice yells from the comms. Within seconds, men start to open the back hatches and venture outside their APC. COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO shortly follows suit, grabbing his gun and rushing outside.

The outside was red, everything was red, expect for the invading army and defending divisions inside the Orion Prison Facility and the facility itself. Blood was indistinguishable from the soil as men drop from incoming bullets and the artillery that blow up massive craters - throwing earth and men alike in the air. Now this felt like home, COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO was a soldier who was used to the horrors of battle and always felt indifferent in these kind of places.

Orion Prison Facility was not that far away now, COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO thought. And thus, COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO, along with his fellow other twenty comrades, ran with the covering APC as they shoot off various amounts of bullets in the distance towards the entrenched enemy.

Not much went through the mind of the soldier at the time...Well, except for how to approach and murder the foe, of course. COW.6756.SeC-17.ECHO had no family, bank, money, civil life or worry (besides from dying, but that’s an afterthought). All that matter was if the goal could be met…

Might want to rework that bio a bit, Spartak/Sparta had been unified under the Löwe family for a while now, though still a pretty shitty place. If you need clarifications, feel free to ask. :3

Lev's been dead for about 2-3 centuries by now, he and the Collapse appeared around the turn of the 22nd Century (2100s C.E.), and the RP begins at the start of the 24th (2321 C.E.). Lev's great-great-grandson, Ulrich Löwe, now leads Sparta. Your character could have been in cryo to make up for the gap, but he'd pretty much be a sitting duck in the middle of those years.

Also, put the history in the bio section. :v

Anyway, feel free to ask me if you need clarifications on the lore. I know I haven't fully written it yet, so just ask. :3

Clarification would be very helpful, Wolf. Sorry, I read about Spartak, but I still don't know much. XD
