“We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch - we are going back from whence we came.”

The autumn of 2018 is harsh. Roughly it hovers, biding breaths. It’s November 10th, cold and brittle on the coast where you’ve discovered the third body of the bunch. Another girl, another death. Not like you haven’t seen death before but the last girl who got killed was a gut punch. Raped and killed, the lab technicians said. You could have guessed the latter part yourself, but the first one… poor girl was just a high school student.

Your heart stills as you approach the body in the lighthouse. She looks out at the sea, staring infinitely at nothing. Her hands and feet are bound. Her mouth and eyes are gaping open. She is entirely naked. She is hairless like the others. Pale and veiny like the first girl. There’s never been murders like this… since you’ve been working, at least. Something about this… strikes fear into you. Primal, illogical fear. You feel uneasy as the third corpse, almost identical to the others, shows up on this lighthouse of all places. Could this be a humbling moment to make you feel small? Or rather another case to further your ego and your career?

Regardless of anything else there is one confirmation; you are not in control.

Information
The Benthic Zone is a mystery-horror RP inspired by True Detective, Twin Peaks, and various sea related history and legends. The RP will attempt to be as grounded as possible when possible. The detectives will travel to locales on the coast and inner regions of Massachusetts, investigating mysterious circumstances across the state.

The story will be open-ended. Players are allowed to attempt to unravel the mysteries behind the murders in any way they want, but the consequences for those actions will be very real.

You will be required to use your wits, your intuition, and your overall knowledge to be able to track the causes of these crimes. It will not be an easy ride to that destination as characters have the potential of being injured, killed, fired, or even arrested. In the events of something like this happening, you will be allowed a new app to replace your old character if you wish, or continue playing as your character provided they are still alive.
Massachusetts State Police
In the state of Massachusetts, Boston, Springfield, and Worcester are the only cities with the authority to investigate homicides. In every other part of the state, it’s fully up to the District Attorney of that region to decide who investigates the murder; primarily, this responsibility falls to the state. The Massachusetts State Crime Lab is located in Sudbury, which is where most of the bodies have been sent for evaluation. Luckily, the workers at the Sudbury Crime Lab are quick and have already sent results back. Rankwise, all state detectives are considered troopers. On this specific case they report in to the Detective Lieutenant, who in turn reports in to the Detective Captain, who in turn reports to his Major. This major is Major Robert J. Pray, head of the Plymouth State Police Detective Unit and now the Massachusetts Serial Homicide Task Force. He is well known for his boy scout policies and the desire to do what’s right. Despite this, he’s also very by the books and scrutinizes each detective heavily.

He expects Detective Captain Anthony York to tell him everything. In exchange, he gives a good report to Lieutenant Colonel Glen Bonner who keeps the FBI off of York’s back. Everyone originally from the Plymouth unit knows that York likes to take money for himself during drug busts, but no one speaks ill of him. It’s not like they wouldn’t do the same. Troopers from other units have no idea who York is other than a Detective Captain. The captain will do everything in his power to keep it that way.

Work with the state police requires a relevant degree as well as prior work experience with law enforcement.

Federal Bureau of Investigation
The FBI take themselves very seriously. Serial killers are no longer top priority and garner nowhere near the amount of resources as counter-terrorism, especially in Boston. The Boston Marathon bombings ushered in a particularly new era inside Massachusetts, with constant monitoring of civilians deemed dangerous inside the city. Those linked to terrorist activity have been marked, stalked, and if need be, dealt with. The FBI in Massachusetts consider simple murders beneath them and hope for this case to go away soon. Serial killings like this are mostly memories from the early days; in the 2000s, it’s the job of the locals and state police while the FBI addresses national security issues. The “real” issues.

Cybercrime is another primary contender with the FBI. Terrorist cells, identity theft, network intrusions, ransomware, and child pornography all fall under investigation of the FBI. They work diligently to prevent these issues and expect the state police to handle murders in the area. Reasonably, they would be frustrated about having to send four agents down to help some “dumb cops” do their job for them.

Not only that, but the FBI remains as career oriented as ever. Rising up the ranks, pencil-pushing, and backstabbing your co-workers are all ways to climb the ladder. It’s as cutthroat as a corporate office, even if you’re unlikely to lose your job.

To join the FBI, one needs a relevant university degree as well as prior working experience.

Massachusetts Serial Homicide Task Force
The Massachusetts Serial Homicide Task Force (MSHTF) is a Massachusetts State Police detective unit, based out of the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office at the district court. The task force was formed following two murders with similar modus operandus and occultish violence. Ten state homicide detectives have been sent from different units for one reason or another; mostly, their majors signed them off based on their skills and if they were expendable or not. In the Massachusetts State Police department, bureaucracy and salaries trump all.

The task force is sharing their offices with the other units as well as the district attorney, of course. As such, clustering of papers and poor space is sure to be a frequent weight on the detectives. Pencil pushers will preen and bureaucrats will frequent the area. Of the ten detectives, plenty don’t want to be here. The case is a nightmare for career hounds and company men due to the media presence and the sudden inclusion of the Boston FBI Office. To some, these “feds” are a scary proposition; they have no loyalty or allegiances. Corruption is sure to be sought out by these inspectors if they even catch an inkling of it.

The case itself forces long working hours upon the ten state detectives, a stressful endeavor even without the FBI breathing down their backs. As the media continues to draw closer, reputations and careers run the risk of being run to the ground.

Boston Federal Bureau of Investigation Office
After a third body was found fitting the killer’s profile soon after MSHTF was formed, the Boston FBI Office was suggested by Major Robert J. Pray. After this proposition, Colonel Thomas Hayes made haste and alerted Special Agent in Charge Andrew Foster who sent an advisory team of four agents down as quickly as possible to investigate. ASAC Ralph Dobson informed them of the seriousness of this event; the mass media presence, the death of a once beloved young girl, and the general obscenities involved with the three murders. They were given the option of staying at their homes in Boston or one of the less expensive hotels in Plymouth.

All agents were paid in full for travel and room and board expenses. The four agents chosen are believed to be capable but not too capable. SAIC Foster believes the death of three girls will wash over soon as simply another closed case, but is fearful of this ramping up anymore. He wants nothing more than to return his agents back home, but his hands are tied.
Victim 1
The first victim was a woman believed to be in her early 20s; a Jane Doe found on Beach Point near the Plymouth Harbor Channel. Her hands were bound with zip ties behind her back. Lab technicians confirmed the cause of death was blood loss from her throat having been slit. The corpse had high amounts of methamphetamines and heroin inside at the time of death. The woman’s entire body had been shaved before her death and she was entirely naked when found. Two men found her; college students Edward Tucker and Josh Doris, upon going for a walk the following morning.

WENT MISSING: Unknown
DATE OF DEATH: November 5th, 2018
DATE FOUND: November 6th, 2018
IDENTITY: Jane Doe, Early 20s, Unknown
KNOWN FAMILY: Unknown

WORKING THEORIES
Educated guessers could try and say that this Jane Doe was likely a prostitute. Checking local bars and truck stops that often deal with illegal drug paraphernalia could help find an identity on the Jane Doe. This case is also believed to be connected to two other bodies found later in November, including Angela Williams.

Victim 2
Angela Williams was a student at Plymouth South High School and valedictorian. She was found in a similar fashion as the first victim, with her hands bound, naked, throat slit, and shaved entirely. She was not found with any drugs in her system but had suffered minor head trauma before her death. Not only that, but tests reported that she had been raped before her death. The body’s identity was confirmed by Williams’ parents, Lauren Williams and Byron Williams. The body was found sitting on a rock seawall, facing the ocean. The man who found it is the owner of Pilgrim Sands on Long Beach, Lee Plaskett.

WENT MISSING: November 5th, 5:30 PM
DATE OF DEATH: November 5th, 2018
DATE FOUND: November 7th, 2018
IDENTITY: Angela Williams, 18 Years Old, Student
KNOWN FAMILY: Lauren Williams (Mother), Byron Williams (Father)

WORKING THEORIES
Angela Williams is believed to be connected to the Jane Doe by everyone involved. She died on the same day at around the same time, but her body was not found until later. Unlike the previous victim, she shows signs of struggle including the blunt force trauma found in her skull and harsher lines around her bound wrists. It is uncertain why she was raped and the other was not; but the crimes can be confirmed to be of a sexual nature, now, and by the same person.

Victim 3
The third corpse was found by Cecil S. Lyle, an elderly volunteer lighthouse keeper working for Duxbury Pier Light. When he went out there for a check up one morning, he reported the body as facing the ocean and with her hands bound. When determined to be potentially linked the the previous murders, the MSHTF was called in with FBI advisors following close behind.

WENT MISSING: Unknown
DATE OF DEATH: Unknown
DATE FOUND: November 10th, 2018
IDENTITY: Jane Doe, Unknown, Unknown
KNOWN FAMILY: Unknown

WORKING THEORIES
Believed link to previous “occult” or Satanic activity.
Rules
1. My word is law, as is my Co-OP’s.

2. I don’t tolerate infighting in the OOC. While disagreements are bound to happen, do not make things personal.

3. Adding onto this, separate the OOC from the IC. Just because your characters are enemies, doesn’t mean you are out of character.

4. Players may have a maximum of two characters at a time.

5. One-liners are not allowed. You are expected to put effort into your posts.

6. Godmodding, powergaming, and metagaming are strictly disallowed.

7. This RP wishes to maintain realism. Make sure your characters make sense in the current world of the state of Massachusetts.

8. This is an adult-oriented RP. There will be graphic violence, adult situations, and explicit language. However, I still ask you to follow along with site rules. That means keep your steamy sex scenes and your sadistic torture porn on a different website; not this one.

Massachusetts Serial Homicide Task Force
Major Robert Jameson Pray - The major assigned to watching over the task force. He was one of the majors assigned to Troop D, which watched over the southeastern section of the commonwealth. He is incredibly by the books and of good moral standing. Old school in many ways, he keeps his own and watches their backs, but this doesn’t mean he won’t check them.

Detective Captain Andrew York - The detective captain of the Plymouth State Police Detective Unit. A good leader by many, but also known to participate in illicit activities, such as taking money for himself during drug busts. He makes it no secret that he feels the brass don’t pay them enough and he’s known to hand out extra pay to certain detectives… if he trusts them.

Detective Nathan Charles Walker - A detective on the task force who raised his law enforcement career in the town of New Bedford. The separated husband of Reporter Alisha Norwood, his relation to her on the case will be uncertain in the coming days but will make itself known. As a child, he was abused by his foster parents and didn't grow up "the easy way." This has possibly influenced some of his answers to criminals who've performed violence against children, women, and animals. The reason he was sent to the task force was excessive force involving a perpetrator of infanticide.

Detective David Walter Gregory Wright - A detective on the task force who is eager to prove himself amidst longer serving partners. In recent times, he was put on the Serial Homicide Task Force because of these lapses in judgement. Recently divorced from his wife, many others think him to be distraught after moving out to a rundown cabin in the woods. He's dedicated, often staving his own needs off for those of the case. He's a hard worker and a fan of mysteries; if these traits will get him far in the case is yet to be seen.

Detective Sean Matthew Connell - An older detective on the task force who is ready to leave the department. Connell has had a storied experience with the MSP and has undoubtedly been involved in his fair share of "corruption." He's a routine man with a strain in his relationship with his son and a recent death in his father. A case of this high order could be the one to break him; especially with his brother unknowingly taunting him from the private sector. Despite this, Connell is a practical man, loyal, and self-motivated. He has all the inner workings of a truly great detective.

Detective Sabrina Eloise Nithko - An almost entirely new detective added to the task force on a contempt for nepotism and lazy police work. Nithko has little desire to serve the people of Massachusetts, but is in the job for the thrill, the morbid curiosity of the mission. Her apathy should be not be confused for lack of empathy; rather it is seated in past childhood trauma and respect for the authority figure in her uncle. With possible undiagnosed mental disorders, her co-workers describe her as "odd." Besides policing, Nithko engages in recreational drug use; when she's not caring for her sister.

Detective James Adrian Bowen - A detective on the task force suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder. Another recent divorcee, he was placed on the task force due to his disorder despite an otherwise unremarkable track record. A lack of control is perhaps one of his greatest fears, something to surely come to it's edging point during the Williams Case. He is an intuitive individual, making him a natural detective while on the job, but he shows a predisposition for a "holier than thou" attitude. He often doesn't believe in his own mistakes and is very stubborn.

Detective Abraham Davis Potlatch - A detective on the task force who suffers from a normally relaxed nature. At times of great provocation however, he has been known to go off the deep end and attack viciously and with impulsive nature. With a potential for emotional trauma after him and his fiancee broke it off just before their wedding, Potlatch could potentially prove uneven during the events of the Williams case. He's one of the few detectives to be left behind in the wake of the Boston Marathon Bombing; he has nowhere to go but down and he's only halfway up.

Detective Halberd Synn Driesler - A detective on the task force with a penchant for perfectionism. He's incredibly determined while on investigations, often forgoing sleep and his own needs for the needs of the case. His girlfriend is sure to take harm to this, as is Driesler's mind. An extremely religious man who falls in with the Catholic culture of Massachusetts, Driesler also has a severe hatred of drugs and injustice. He has an ideal of being able to make a difference in the world by the way of his police work; if this'll truly come to fruition is still up for debate.

Detective Thomas Aaron Frey - A detective on the task force with a penchant for intensity. Suffering from Alcohol Use Disorder after his time in Narcotics, Frey is a battered and mentally wounded man. He has little respect for the higher-ups in the force and often clashes with them; especially with Lieutenant Colonel Glen Bonner. He has no hope of advancing his career any further. Before his assignment to the task force, he had already been reassigned to an evidence cage. His time as an undercover cop will surely prove invaluable in the coming weeks, if his career can survive that long.

Detective Victor Constantinovich Alexander - A detective on the task force that advocates for violent ends to violent means. Born to Russian parents, the man is significantly out of place in the predominantly Irish world of Massachusetts. A new detective, he is eager to prove himself and proud of his unorthodox violence that faces criminals. While he is disciplined, he also has gotten into more gunfights than a police officer ever should. In a serial killer case, gunfights won't help him, but his disconcerting methods might.

Massachusetts State Police
Colonel Thomas Hayes - An elderly man who works in the Superintendent's Office of the Massachusetts State Police. As the head of the MSP, he has undoubtedly been involved in numerous scandals, whether known or not. Particularly, he covered up Lieutenant Colonel Glen Bonner’s involvement with wiping parts of his daughter’s arrest record. He treats his men well and can be considered naive by some; calling in the FBI is no big deal to him.

Lieutenant Colonel Glen Bonner - Apart of a scandal where he wiped parts of his daughter’s arrest record. Well respected by those who aspire to be more, but regular old troopers hate his guts. Bonner has an aura of pretentiousness, a holier than thou attitude, and the ability to get away with it. He will ruin careers if it benefits him.

Trooper Holly Josephine Wilkinson - Dutiful but content where she is, Wilkinson is a trooper with some relations to the case. While not a part of the case, she is on standby to answer calls if need be and provide detectives with valuable backup, in the case situations get sticky. Formerly Air Force, she joined the State Police a rotation in South Korea. She is laidback and has a gallow's humor, thus getting along with the cops who've been there from the beginning.

Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Office
Special Agent in Charge Andrew Foster - A tired man who, as he grows older, grows more and more tired of police work. He wishes to retire soon and pass on his career to ASAC Dobson and this case threatens that. He has ordered Dobson to send the most expendable agents on the case, mainly those with little counter-terrorism/cyber-crime abilities or those who are largely incompetent.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ralph Dobson - A career hound who cares about his agents. He wants his agents home as fast as possible, believing this case to be a career ender. It looks to be a deadend case and the media presence is large. There’s nothing he wants more than for this to all go away.

Special Agent Lauren Esther Pryzbylewski - A special agent with deep-rooted psychological issues involving her career in VCAC and her life in a foster home. Her coping mechanism is bottling her emotions, which is argued unhealthy by some but it has worked out for Pryzbylewski so far other than one occurrence. Thorough, detail-oriented, productive, and headstrong, the Agent is sure to be a help to the team in the MSHTF. Involved in numerous cases that broke her, she has since become paranoid and emotionally weak. Her past may come back to haunt her; ghosts never fade away.

Civilians
Edward Tucker and Joshua Doris - Two Curry College students who have been dating for five months. They go on walks every so often on the beach and discovered the first Jane Doe body. QUESTIONED - FURTHER QUESTIONING UNKNOWN

Lee Plaskett - Owner of Pilgrim Sands on Long Beach. A small and anxious man who found the body of Angela Williams. Walks the grounds of the apartments often and one day he saw her body in the distance. FURTHER QUESTIONING ADVISED

Cecil S. Lyle - Volunteer lighthouse keeper of Duxbury Pier Light. Found the third body and the second Jane Doe. A man with a peculiar personality and a large appetite for food and insults. FURTHER QUESTIONING ADVISED

Lauren and Byron Williams - The mother and father of Angela Williams, respectively. Very broken up by their daughters death and constantly talk to local and national news outlets about it as a means of coping. The father is particularly broken up about it and keeps to himself unless questioned by police. FURTHER QUESTIONING ADVISED

Reporter Alisha Norwood - A reporter working with Fox 18 near Plymouth, Massachusetts. She has covered the case from the beginning and does not shine police officers in a good light, but primarily uses objective word choices and sources to paint her words as unbiased.

This seems quite interesting, though I am afraid that I lack the time to dedicate to it.

  • Marcus Nithko — Father, deceased
  • Katherine Nithko — Mother, deceased
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS:
    N/A
MARITAL STATUS: Single
BASIC BACKGROUND:
Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Sabrina was always an odd child, tomboyish with untempered interest in the dark and creepy, enough-so for her Catholic mother and father to be concerned, and although an attempt was made to raise their daughter to be "normal" it proved a futile endeavor. Sabrina was loved unconditionally, odd or not, but the relationship between her and her parents would, over time, strain as the girl transitioned from child to teenager to young adult. No severance, but neither was Sabrina terribly inclined to repair the distance between them, preferring quiet isolation and the control of her own lifestyles. However, despite the familial tension, Sabrina cherished her younger sister and the two remain inseparable.

Growing up in Salem, Sabrina was fascinated by the darker aspects of the town's history, particularly the witch trials and, to an extent, the supernatural and eerily unexplained, fostering a future love (re: obsession) of horror in general. An incident during her middle school years (thus far uneventful) would fuel such infatuation when, at 14, Sabrina inadvertently discovered a deceased man while wandering the local park shortly before sunset. Suicide by gunshot. A traumatic experience for anyone to happen upon, let alone a child, but between this harrowing moment and her uncle's presence throughout her childhood, then an officer for the Boston Police Department, Sabrina would find inspiration to seek a career in law enforcement. Not because she desired to serve the people of Massachusetts or the greater good but simply for the sake of morbid fascination. Her parents disapproved but, despite their hesitations, were supportive in their daughter attending Northeastern University to study Criminal Justice. After graduation Sabrina would attend the New Braintree State Police Academy with some recommendation by her uncle. By 24 she was employed by Massachusetts State Police in Danvers (where her uncle had recently transfered). As an officer Sabrina was above-average, possibly great when totally engrossed in her job, if only a bit socially awkward and lacking in overall experience.

Her parents would die within a year of her becoming an officer. A car accident. Poor weather and worse luck. Despite her uncle and his family offering a home to Abigail, then 12, the sisters would remain together, Sabrina officially becoming the legal guardian of Abigail (with their uncle's family helping with matters when necessary). The two would rent a small apartment in Salem, and although far from glamorous the two were content to make ends meet. Although content as an officer, Sabrina's uncle would begin to push more and more for her to focus on her career so as to better provide for both herself and for Abigail. Apathy aside, Sabrina would pass the necessary examinations to be considered for promotion and, surprisingly, received it. This did not come without some friction. Sabrina had potential but lacked motivation, more-so with her uncle's insistence in advancing, and some would argue favoritism or, at the very least, impartial recommendations. In a strange twist Sabrina was later assigned to the newly formed MSHTF despite her being a detective for less than a year. Possibly a ploy within department politics, or her adequate-but-not-exceptional record (thus expendable), yet, regardless, she finds herself now in Plymouth investigating a case that likely will end her short career.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:
Sabrina is an avid smoker of marijuana. Bisexual.

FREY, THOMAS - SERGEANT, MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE

BASIC EMPLOYEE INFORMATION
FULL NAME: Thomas Aaron Frey.
NICKNAME(S), PREFERRED: Tom.
DOB - AGE: 03-07-1983 - 35.
GENDER: M / F
BIRTHPLACE: Wilmington, North Carolina.
ETHNICITY: Caucasian, from predominately English and Scots-Irish descent.
RELIGION: No personal preference has been discussed by Sergeant Frey at this time.
APPEARANCE Tom measures in around 5'11, weighing in at 170 lbs. His build is evident of constant physical activity and athleticism, as opposed to pure strength training. Three half-inch scars adorn his left calf, back, and right arm respectively. Laceration on his forehead.

MEDICAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITION: FIT
MEDICAL CONDITIONS:
  • Alcohol Use Disorder - Tom's drinking habits once reached what ASAM would consider to be a severe abuse issue, a habit that had Tom consuming over a half-gallon of alcohol a day. Currently, his disorder is in remission, with the occasional lapse in sobriety. Tom is prescribed vistaril and neurontin to help with keeping himself in check, and currently is a member of an Alcoholics' Anonymous chapter dedicated to law enforcement agents working in Boston.
MEDICAL HISTORY:
  • Impalement through the left hand by an ice pick; 11/4/06.
  • Concussion sustained by a thrown beer bottle; 3/7/07.
  • Suffered a single blast of twelve-gauge buckshot to his protective vest, breaking one rib; 2/8/08
  • Suffered second-degree burns to his hands and arms due to the ignition of a flammable device; 05/27/09.
  • Stabbed with a broken pool cue in his lower back; 09/21/11.
  • Ankle sprain after being hit with a motorcycle; 09/21/11.
  • Shot three times by rounds chambered for .22 Magnum, in the calf, back, and arm; 06/20/13.
  • Concussion sustained from ASP baton; 06/20/13.
  • Crushed several bones in right foot after dropping a cinderblock on top of it; 06/20/13.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE: At a constant, Tom is a skeptic. The "benefit of the doubt" does not compute; he scrutinizes until he has every bit of hidden knowledge that he can obtain. He reads from front to cover, every word, every letter. He reads the eyes of those he meets; no disruption of eye contact, very little blinking in his interactions. When Tom perceives dishonesty, he charges in like a Daschund into a badger hole, until he has intimidated and pushed the truth is out in the open. Tom Frey's motto is "kindness before nicety." He considers himself to be fair; he says what is floating on his mind, and avoids the false fulfillment of white-washing or over-exaggerating his cases. He personally considers much of his attitude to be derived from what he has learned over the years about people; especially with himself being an addict, he can detect and even empathize somewhat with dishonesty. However, Frey would consider it a disservice to allow someone to get away with lying.

Despite his intimidating, stern nature when on the job, Frey is quite an understanding conversationalist within his various units. He enjoys giving advice and assistance to his co-workers, often enthusiastically so. When working with his fellow Troopers and Detectives, he does not allow lapses in his communication, insisting on the constant appraisal of information. In addition, he is not prone to waiting around a crime scene without reason, especially when the FBI is involved.

Only once have the two encountered one another; at a hearing for the case against Meagher, Bonner gave a character witness account that largely lambasted Frey. Bonner was instrumental in the reassignment of Frey.
MARITAL STATUS: Married.
BASIC BACKGROUND: [box]"In all honesty, you can put my life story on some bio-pic, a story of social gains and strains. One thing people like me - people who climb out of shitty circumstances - don't realize is how easy it is to get caught in the cycle you spent a lifetime trying to get away from. In my case, I made the mistake of getting as far away as I could from my home and the people there, only to be left hanging between here and that life."

"I'm not from Mass, if you haven't noticed by how I sound. Most of the Micks and Ginnies and WASPs - I use them in the best possible light - think I am from Texas. Quite the opposite; I am from North Carolina, specifically the port city of Wilmington. It's got a lot in common with Mass, as does the rest of North Carolina. Old-World English influences, boiled up with the complexities of modernization. I was born in the '80s, the son of a fisherman and a nurse, as poetic as that sounds. That's how a good story starts, right? A scion from humble beginnings; only problem was the lack of humble beginnings."

"First off, they were both plum-crazy, as my brother Jeff says. Dad had been an old Navy type fucked up by Vietnam, a big mean boozer with an undiagnosed Bipolar disorder. Mom wasn't much better off; she was supposedly a nurse, but most of her time was spent flying from Wilmington to Charlotte, and then to Miami - and back. You know what all that was about? Coke - my mom ran coke. And she did coke. Not to mention, she had a personality disorder just like him. They were shattered people, and you could probably say they had no reason raising kids."

"When it comes down to it, no one is guaranteed a good life, or the ability to be a good parent. It can be worked towards, but it's a lot easier to live in a fantasy than live a life when you know how horrible you can be. Now, we weren't exactly a poor family, nor did we experience that degrading prisoner experience that I have seen in some households. My parents made relatively good incomes, enough to be semi-comfortable with their finances. The four of us Freys - myself, Jeff, Gray, and Winona - were fed, cleaned, and sent to school just like every other kid. Truthfully, I can't exactly remember when the abuse began, but I can remember when it started to bother me."

"Mom and Dad got into it a lot, often with one of their four children present. Shouting matches were mild; they cursed and spit at each other, before finally exchanging physical blows. After all of that, they'd come to take out their leftover rage on us. I won't speak for my siblings, but I know Mom liked to go after me, often with the buckle-end of her belt. This above, was their M.O., and by eight, I was tired of it. Started staying out late after school, able to do so because at any given time, my parents probably were somewhere outside of Wilmington."

"I was a delinquent, along with Gray. We skipped school a-plenty, and walked the streets and beaches. By twelve, I had summoned the courage to go into my parents' belongings, thanks to my older brother. He was sixteen then, and had a brilliant idea: sell coke. Where did we get coke? Pilfering Mom's stock after she passed out. If it was on the coffee table at six in the morning and she was dead-asleep beside of it, it was fair he. Gray had the balls to mix and apportion amounts from her sealed bags, and make it inconspicuous about what we had taken. Weed was popular at this time; we all smoked it, but aside from speed, coke was nonexistent for kids like us - until we started stealing our supply. By sixteen, I was living with him and going to school."

"Academics and athletics; that's how I got out of Wilmington. Sure, I drank and smoked and even peddled drugs for my older brother, but I really took to school. Didn't like all of my teachers, or all of my classmates enough to attend reunions, but school provided me with some desire to learn. History was my thing, and I was an athlete to boot. Swimming was my thing; particularly the 500-yard Freestyle. Practice kept me from getting into the thickest of the thick of it, much to Gray's chagrin. Didn't matter much to me by seventeen, because the cops ended up arresting him some five days after my birthday. Lived with my parents, all the way up until college."

"Why college? Why college in Vermont, for that matter? I wanted to serve, and it just so happened that one of my teachers was an alum for a military school up there. I took Norwich at his recommendation, and even ended up with a four-year Army ROTC scholarship. Norwich was a hell of a place; while some of the bad came out through military discipline and hard work, I can definitely say I was a heavy-enough drinker. It didn't matter to me much; after I almost died through Rookdom, I hitched up with our resident Arty battery. That was fun stuff for me, and brought me into a close-knit group of other boozers and idiots. Two things would happen, around my Junior Year, that would put me on the trajectory towards the Mass State Police."

"George Lambert, and the loss of my scholarship. George, my roommate through all four years, was actually the one I blame for me losing my scholarship. I didn't buy the beer; I just drank it, but that wasn't good enough of an admission to the Army cadre, thus I was stripped of my scholarship, and forced into survival mode, lest I die in Vermont. I worked at a bar, applied for every scholarship that I could apply to, and still, it was barely enough to get me through Graduation. I was feeling empty, mainly because the ticket that had gotten me out of my home situation was gone. George gave me another idea; that Masshole was the son of an MSP Lieutenant, and given our close proximity, I got to know his dad fairly well. He was kind enough to recommend me for the Academy in Framingham."

"Not much I wish to say about Framingham. It was about the same as Norwich; they had us play the game of institutionalization, but with the added bonus of working towards a goal that's near. Different than working towards four years of ROTC. I weathered it all about as well as anyone else, not stellar but definitely not mediocre. Upon graduation, I was assigned to H-Troop in my probationary period. South Boston, if you want the real name."

"South used to be predominantly Irish, but even with the racial makeup in South changing, the Irish still run most of the show there. Had a lot of calls dealing with 'stolen' cars, traffic stops with warrants, car wrecks on complicated-ass road systems, the works for a trooper. Ended up taking a beer bottle to the head during a block party-gone-wrong that we were responding to. I'd hoped that was the worst of it all, and then came my first domestic."

"I was responding with a Boston PD officer named Michaels and a Health Department counselor to a home known for repeated domestic violence calls. We went in, talked to the couple, and decided that it was high time to get the woman out. Her husband, who had been very cordial at first, turned a one-eighty and pulled a gun we didn't know he had. He fired some shots, sent Michaels and I into cover - without the counselor. Husband made some threats towards her, and his wife. What did I do? I started talking to him. Really, I didn't know what the fuck to do, because I couldn't exactly go in there and kill him without jeopardizing his hostages. So, we talked. Old boy was from down South, so it was easy to find something to talk about with a foot of drywall between us. We talked up until I heard the report of a rifle. Not one close by, but a thud and silence followed it. I opened the door to find the fella dead, with a hole in the side of his head. I also happened to find my wife."

"That counselor was Stefanie Braga, or as I prefer to call her in the bedroom, Doctor Frey-Braga. She and I started talking after that call, partly because she was trying to resolve it all in her head. Talking helped us both, helped me to actually talk to someone about what I'd gone through. Stef is a good listener; able to get anyone on a healthy, conversative roll. By the time my promotion to Detective rolled around, we were well along with our relationship, 'official' if you want a label. Moved in about six months after the hostage situation."

"My other spouse is - was - the Gang Unit. The promotion changed the trajectory of my work; instead of driving around in a marked car, I was putting cases together and following leads, with the occasional raid or high-risk arrest popping up. Got shot on my first entry; took a blast to the plate. I broke a rib, sure; I was more scared if anything. Shootouts were the exception, not the rule, and that seems to surprise folks. From the perspective of the guys we brought it, it was easier to take a charge and find old homies in the lockup, than it is to engage eight detectives and a SWAT in a firefight. That's not to say that our work wasn't dangerous. I got burned real bad by a can of Axe and a lighter; fucking Rejean should be happy with thirty in Federal for moving smack. I'd be happier with him dead."

"Danger really found me on my first - and to date, only - undercover assignment. I went in as Ty Furchess, an Iraq War vet who found arms and drugs to be more fulfilling than serving his country. Under that guise, I became the principal arms dealer for Lucifer's Paladins MC; met with their guys once every two weeks to hand off AR-15s ostensibly coming from down South.

Pryor, Madeline - Senior Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation

BASIC EMPLOYEE INFORMATION
FULL NAME: Madeline Elizabeth Pryor.
NICKNAME(S), PREFERRED: Many of her coworkers refer to her as "Mads" or "Maddie" for short. Those who know her well will call her by her middle name or any of its variants to get under her skin.
DOB - AGE (MM/DD/YYYY) - XX: 12/24/1981
GENDER: M / F
BIRTHPLACE: Crofton, Maryland, United States of America.
ETHNICITY: Caucasian, descended from Anglo-Norman settlers in Maryland.
RELIGION: Roman Catholic.
APPEARANCE 5'6, 139 lbs; athletic build. She has a single scar running the length of her upper right arm.

MEDICAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITION:(FIT/UNFIT)
MEDICAL CONDITIONS:
  • Madeline Pryor has seasonal allergies in both the spring and the fall.
  • Diagnosed with a relatively minor heart arrhythmia; determined to be not serious enough to bar her from active duty.
MEDICAL HISTORY:
  • 2 gunshot wounds inflicted by .380 ACP rounds; one in lower torso, one in left arm. Both removed, July 27th & August 3rd, 2006.
  • Gunshot wound inflicted by 9x19mm parabellum; left arm. Removed on January 9th, 2015.
  • Concussion inflicted by wooden baseball bat, same incident as above. Cleared for active duty by August 1st, 2015.
  • Acute contusion as a result of a 5.56x45mm round impacting a worn kevlar vest. Cleared for active duty by April 29th, 2016.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE: Madeline is the type of person that has worked too long in a field that is unsuited to her personality. When off-duty, Madeline tends to be relatively lax and friendly, if not just a bit shy - she also tends to have an oddball side to her, which reflects the awkwardness that she never really got over as a teenager. She cares deeply for people, especially those who were either victims or relatives of victims in cases that she has worked on in the past. She is incredibly devoted to her job, and finds passion in helping those who cannot help themselves - her late nights, attachment to her job, and willingness to take cases all around the country have caused not one, but two separate marriages to fall apart. However, she is still quite ardent on maintaining her relationship with her mother. Like her mother, Madeline is very religious, and is as active a member of the Roman Catholic Church as one could reasonably be while moving around the country at a relatively rapid pace.

However, the past thirteen years in the FBI has produced a unique character trait: More and more, when she's on-duty, Madeline's entire demeanour changes. She is extremely uptight, by-the-book, and has little tolerance for any sort of "fooling around". She has little time for those who do not take law enforcement seriously, which is applied doubly to those who actually work in law and order. This often puts Madeline at odds with local law enforcement, as she tends to look down locals who do not follow perfect proceedure. Ultimately, this is a subconscious reaction to her realized mortality. After being shot three, nearly four times in the line of duty, Madeline has become increasingly scared of death. While this fear has expressed itself in conventional ways, such as an increasing dependence on alcohol and cigarettes, it also changes her personality while in the field. A former long-time partner has expressed concern for her well-being, but Madeline's popularity with her superiors as well as her determination to stay in active duty to help those who need it has ensured her continued activity.

As mentioned above, Madeline has become increasingly dependent on substances to calm her nerves. Despite only having smoked in college, she has recently picked the habit back up again, often chainsmoking while she works. Similarly, Madeline has also been nursing an increasing dependence on alcohol after-hours. Often, after long days she will go home and drink herself to sleep.

Finally, Madeline is an avid dreamer. She often complains how her dreams tend to interrupt her natural sleep cycle while seemingly glossing over the fact that endemic drinking is usually the reason for that. That being said, Madeline's dreams are often vivid and descriptive, though rarely can she remember them after she wakes up. She keeps a dream journal with her wherever she goes.
LIKES: A good bottle of scotch, though usually any sort of liquor will do. She enjoys her frequent chats with her mother who will often call her even when she's on a case; the pair tend to talk daily. She enjoys working and closing cases, especially where the victim or the victim's family gain some sort of closure after the event. She is also highly religious, and has a positive opinion of those who share her conviction. She also has a personal love for coffee, which she drinks way too much of for any healthy person.
DISLIKES: Bad, sloppy, or otherwise disorganized policework. She dislikes what she refers to as "evil in the world", which seems to be a nebulous definition for anything that is inherently bad, though often her opinion of what exactly constitutes "evil in the world" will change day to day. She also dislikes those who do not take themselves seriously while they're on the job. She also has an aversion to tea, which she often comedically describes as a "personal conspiracy against her".
IMPORTANT PSYCHOLOGICAL FEARS:The largest, most overriding one is the fear of her own mortality and that she may die before she can find both a family and inner peace. She also has a fear that people will discover her weaknesses, both her personal issues, as well as her alcohol dependence.
HOPES: Madeline hopes to continue to help people as much as she can. She also hopes to get over her weaknesses and dependencies, though she's not entirely sure how to go about it.

  • Ex-husband, James Donaldson, age 43. Married for four years.
  • Ex-boyfriend, James Miller, age 42. Dated for four years.
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Special Agent Lauren Pryzbylewski. She was a senior officer paired with Pryzbylewski during the New England Robbery Spree. She has a relatively good working relationship with her, but the pair don't know each other very well. She enjoyed working with Pryzbylewski.
MARITAL STATUS: Single.
BASIC BACKGROUND:Madeline Pryor was born as the first and only child of Donald Pryor and his wife, Mary Pryor, on Christmas Eve of 1981. Pryor would remain the only child of the couple - fertility problems prevented the pair from having more children despite their desire to. During her early years, her parent’s marked interest in ensuring that she be raised in the best way possible shaped her personality prior to entering the school system. For instance, she was a prodigious reader, and could read much earlier than most other children. However, her time in primary education proved socially problematic for Madeline. Like both her parents, Madeline had cultivated a shy and awkward personality, something which she would keep with her for most of her education. She was enrolled in a Catholic school for her secondary education, where she first truly discovered her spirituality. Despite many attempts at cultivating a social life, Madeline remained fairly socially isolated and in her later secondary years focused on her schoolwork, achieving the second highest grade in her graduating class. Despite her parent’s desire for her to go to school locally so that she could help out with her father’s business, she went to Georgetown for history; eventually, she would specialize in the history of law.

At University, Madeline opened up more than she had before. As she matured, her awkwardness receded and was able to be managed by the young woman, who made a number of friends through parties and the Georgetown Law Society. Here she met her first boyfriend-to-be, Michael Collins (no relation to the historical figure). The pair were in the same degree and shared many of the same interests, both of them being devoted Catholics. The relationship would last two years, before Madeline called it off over a dispute regarding premarital sex. Pryor graduated with top honours from Georgetown in 1993. She took a break from school between 1993-1994, spending time with her family and working at a local restaurant to pay off the money she had spent while attending Georgetown. Eventually, however, she applied and got accepted to Liberty University, where she would achieve a degree in Criminal Justice & Law degree by 1997. After this, she returned to Crofton, Maryland, where she resumed her waitressing job, unsure of what to do with her life. During this time, she became enamored with the Unabomber Case, and read as much about it as possible. While she was secretly sympathetic to some of the bomber’s views, she was much more interested in the police work behind catching the man. She applied for a low-level job at the FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, and was accepted in 1998. She worked there for two and a half years, as a low-level liaison and field agent, making little name for herself. In 2001, shortly before the September 11th attacks, Madeline’s father Donald was diagnosed with ALS. She was permitted to take an unpaid leave of absence to return home and help her mother take care of Donald. She resumed her work in the service industry to help bring home a few extra dollars, but mostly left to ensure that her presence was felt by her rapidly-degenerating father. Donald Pryor would pass away in 2004, and in 2005 Madeline would come back to the bureau.

In 2007, she would be transferred away from Quantico towards Maryland, where she began as a junior field agent, working cases. Her second case worked was the MacMurray Murder Cases, where a man, Benjamin MacMurray, was behind a trio of sexual assaults and murders in a local Maryland town and the surrounding area. The case became famous throughout many FBI circles at the time because of the way in which MacMurray, a background figure in the investigation and a local gas station attendant, was able to avoid detection for a long time. During her questioning of him after she made him for a suspect, he reacted violently and pulled a weapon out, shooting Madeline twice before being subdued. It was during this case which Madeline first made a name for herself to her superiors. She was commended for following the rules to a T while still maintaining an effective investigatory procedure.

Having made a name for herself and replacing the very placid record that she had racked up prior to MacMurray, she would later be placed on the 2007-2009 New Germany Missing Persons Case. Brought on to help a pair of agents already stumped, the case revolved around six missing girls and young women around the New Germany State Park, Maryland. A year and a half of investigation, four FBI field agents, and countless local law enforcement resources were expended in the case, before it was eventually declared by the Maryland field office to be inconclusive - a cold case. Madeline’s failure in 2009 reflected on her personality more than it did her record - most understood the fact that it would be a long shot to find those responsible - it bothered her personally, however, that whoever committed the crimes against six girls, would get away with it. She continues to monitor the case and any potential news on it, nine years later. She also keeps in semi-regular contact with the local law enforcement, with whom she cultivated a long-standing and positive relationship.

Madeline’s record was quiet between New Germany and her next big case. She continued to work in the field part-time, often serving in the Maryland field office instead, working what she deemed to be an ultimately-unsatisfying desk job. It was during this period in which her relationship with her mother became especially close - the pair would often meet for dinner, either in Baltimore or Crofton after Madeline’s shifts. In late 2013, what would become the Murley Branch Butcher Case broke local news after two bodies were found with similar bodily trauma around the small Maryland community of Murley Branch. After the New Year, Madeline and her partner would travel to Murley Branch and work the case. What should have been an open-and-shut case turned into a bureaucratic and social nightmare. Media had gotten a hold of the store before the FBI had, and details of the murders were well-known to the press. Leaks inside the local law enforcement agencies also ensured that both local and stateside media outlets had continual details about the investigation’s progress, informing not just the public but the murderer as well. Coupled with this was a general lack of communication and cooperation with local law enforcement, due in part to Madeline’s partner instigating conflicts with locals. When a suspect was finally located, most of the local police department refused to go along with the agents to apprehend a suspect - when the suspect resisted, a short gunfight broke out between Madeline, her partner, and the two cops that had accompanied them to the suspect’s residence and the suspect himself. Madeline was wounded in action, shot in the left arm. Continuing to fight, she was later concussed after the suspect’s wife hit her over the head with an aluminum baseball bat. While the pair were eventually subdued and taken into custody, Madeline was seriously injured. She wouldn’t be cleared for active duty until August, 2015.

Shortly after returning to active duty, recovering from a gunshot wound and a serious concussion, Madeline was assigned a new partner and a new case: The Conn Island Killings. Conn Island was a small island in the Potomac River that had seen multiple bodies be placed under trees on the island. Since a number of the victims were also from Virginia, which was separated from Conn Island only by a few short meters of water, Madeline and her partner worked with both Virginian and Marylander police departments. It was later determined that the Conn Island Killings were perpetrated by an out-of-state individual who worked in the South during the winter but came to Virginia for his summers. When the individual was finally located he resisted violently, wounding Madeline and one other local policeman, and killing a second. Pryor had been hit in the chest with a 5.56x45mm shell in her chest while wearing a kevlar vest. Without the vest, she surely would have been killed.

After Conn Island, Pryor’s demeanor began to change, albeit slowly. She became more detached from those that she worked with, and her adherence to the rules became even stricter, to the point where many of her colleagues found it hard to work with her. Much to the relief of many of her co-workers, she applied for a transfer to Massachusetts. She found solving cases, at least on the official document, harder and harder in her home state. Many new, however, that her fresh divorce from her ex-husband played a factor as well. Her reputation for being a solid case worker landed her on the 2018 New England Robbery Spree, alongside another FBI Massachusetts field agent - Lauren Pryzbylewski. Alongside a number of other agents and local law enforcement teams, the group managed to take down the robbers after a prolonged investigation and eventual chase. After a short leave, she has now been assigned to a grizzly murder case on the coast of her new state.

Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

WRIGHT, DAVID, DETECTIVE, MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE

BASIC EMPLOYEE INFORMATION
FULL NAME: David Walter Gregory Wright
DOB - AGE: (09/21/1983 - 35)
GENDER: M / F
BIRTHPLACE: Providence, Rhode Island
ETHNICITY: Caucasian
RELIGION: Not stated.
APPEARANCE Caucasian, 5'9 in height, medium build, auburn hair, green eyes.

MEDICAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITION: Fit
MEDICAL CONDITIONS: None.
MEDICAL HISTORY:
  • Gash on right side of head after traffic accident, treated January 17, 2004.
  • Lacerated right foot, treated July 15, 2012.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE: David exhibits an unusual combination of personal traits that both positively and negatively affect his abilities to follow through on cases.

David is a very dedicated officer in terms of his work and puts as much effort into solving cases to the best of his abilities; he is known to work for days on end with little or now sleep. While this dedication is admired, it has hampered his ability to make rational and reasoned decisions, and these have factored into the outcomes of a number of cases. These can be moderated with the addition of a partner, or someone to remind him of duty to self.

This need to work long hours works against him in some instances and fits in with reckless tendencies that he has displayed since his transfer from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. Pyschological evaluation has revealed that this stems from a need to prove himself, as he hasn't had as much experience as others in the MSHTF. This has lead to him making decisions that have nearly resulted and resulted in injuries.

In October 2016, David and his wife formally split and divorced, the latter finalised in the New Year period in 2017. This event has affected him significantly, causing him to be more withdrawn and less trustworthy of others than he was in the past, particularly of women. In addition to the stresses induced by the divorce process, David also has recurring stresses surrounding his alimony and child support payments.
LIKES: David is a fan of music from the late 90's and early 00's as this reminds him of his middle and high school years, although he has no particular bands or artists that could be considered his favourites. Favourite songs include "Take a Picture" by Filter.

David may stick out from his peers as not being a big fan of football nor the New England Patriots. Instead, David prefers motorsports, shooting, and hunting. He has previously visited many of the famous global racing circuits and is a fan of touring car racing. With regards to shooting, David regards it more as a pasttime but also as a means of maintaining skills with a multitude of firearms. He has won a couple of local and state shooting competitions. David doesn't go hunting as often as he did with his friends prior to getting married, but hopes to reconnect with his old hunting friends soon.

One of the favourite things David does is relaxing with a good book and a beer. He has a particular liking towards mystery and spy novels, as well as an interest in ghosts and cryptids.
DISLIKES: David dislikes not being in control of things. This is a recent development stemming from his inability to influence the divorce proceedings.

David also has a rabid hatred of coffee and pickles.
IMPORTANT PSYCHOLOGICAL FEARS: David suffers from cynophobia brought on by a dog attack when he was ten years old. This has sometimes prompted him to react drastically to the presence of a dog, including shooting one dead during a house search in 2015.
HOPES: David hopes to get his life back on track after the divorce.

AGENCY INFORMATION:
JURISDICTION: State.
EDUCATIONAL HISTORY: Outside of elementary and secondary schooling, David attended the Worcester Polytechnic Institute between 2001 and 2007 with qualifications in Automotive Engineering and Criminal Studies.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
  • Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (2007-2014)
  • Massachusetts Serial Homicide Task Force (2014-)
QUALIFIED SERVICE WEAPON: Smith & Wesson M&P
SERVICE VEHICLE: Police specification Ford Fusion, grey, unmarked.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
FAMILY:
  • Samantha Fisher (ex wife, married 2007, divorced 2017)
  • Emily Wright-Fisher (daughter, born 2009)
  • Jason Wright-Fisher (son, born 2012)
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS:
MARITAL STATUS: Divorced.
BASIC BACKGROUND: David Wright was born on September 21, 1983 in Providence, Rhode Island into a reasonably wealthy family. His mother was a traditional housewife and his father was a prominent laywer. Unable to keep up with big city living, the family relocated northwest to Worcester, Massachusetts, where his father opened his own law practice. David is the eldest of three children, he was soon joined by his younger brother Jack in 1988 and baby sister Sophie in 1990.

The Wrights lived in the leavy suburb of Shrewsbury, attending Spring Street Elementary, Sherwood Middle School, and Oak High School. In 2001, age 18, David attended the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and graduated with qualifications in Automotive Engineering and Criminal Studies. In 2007 he joined the Massachusetts State Police and worked in the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) of the State Police, focussing on the analysis and reconstruction of fatal and near fatal traffic collisions. David distinguished himself in this part of the police force, with his attention to detail and dedication awarding him praise among his superiors. On one of his last cases with CARS, David managed to discover that someone was sabotaging the cars of a number of people in Worcester County, a case in which the FBI was involved. When multiple fatal accidents occurred, David worked closely with the Massachusetts Serial Homicide Task Force (MSHTF). He impressed the detectives to the extent that they wanted him to be brought into the MSHTF, and was successfully transferred in October 2014.

David worked as an assistant detective on a number of cases around Massachusetts, and was only given the lead role in the case of a murdered pensioner in Martha's Vineyard in 2017.

In 1999, David met his future wife Samantha Fisher while attending high school, and they began dating. They maintained a relationship through university where Samantha studied social work at the Worcester State University. They married in 2007 after graduation and before David took up his job at the State Police. Their first child, Emily, was born in 2009 and this was followed by their second child, Jason, in 2012. In 2016, David found out through a friend of his that his wife was cheating on him with a work colleague, and had been engaging in an affair for a number of years. David left and went through a rather distressing divorce in which he was portrayed as an uncaring and abusive father, despite his protests to the contrary. Much of his assets were handed to his wife, along with his house, and most of the property not in his name.

David relocated from Worcester to Williamstown in the far northwest of Massachusetts where he lives in a rural property northwest of town.

WALKER, NATHAN - DETECTIVE, MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE

BASIC EMPLOYEE INFORMATION

FULL NAME: Nathan Charles Walker

NICKNAME(S), PREFERRED: Det. Walker usually answers to Nathan, but goes by Nate with family and close friends.

DOB - AGE: 02/13/1983 - 35

GENDER: M / F

BIRTHPLACE: New Bedford, Massachusetts, United States

ETHNICITY: Caucasian. Relatively little is known of Det. Walker's birth family, but he believes himself to be of predominately Irish descent.

RELIGION: "Red-letter Christian" (progressive evangelical; attends Hope Community Church, Middleborough MA)

APPEARANCE Height: 6'0''. Weight: 185 lbs. Hair: brown. Eyes: brown. Build: muscular. Scars: small, very old circular burn marks on stomach. Tattoos: one, names of two deceased Marine buddies on upper left shoulder blade.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

PHYSICAL CONDITION: FIT/UNFIT

MEDICAL CONDITIONS:
  • Deafness in left ear from childhood abuse; hearing loss in that ear of approximately 65-70 percent.
  • Moderate hyperopia, corrected with prescription reading glasses.

MEDICAL HISTORY:
  • Admitted to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Plymouth, 04/20/2000, after fracturing ankle in high school baseball game. Examination also discovered 17 untreated cigarette burns on abdomen, extensive contusions from repeated beating with a blunt instrument, and permanent damage to left eardrum.
  • Admitted to Middleborough Hospital for hypothermia and frostbite, 12/18/16, as a result of actions in the line of duty.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE:
"Det. Walker's psychological state is stable, though deeply influenced by his traumatic upbringing. I believe him to be driven overwhelmingly by two responses to childhood trauma: first, to ensure that no one else suffers as he has suffered; second, to prove to himself that he is not capable of the cruelty that was visited upon him. As a result, Det. Walker is in general an exceptionally gentle man, careful to surround himself with social signifiers of nonthreatening masculine wholesomeness - woodworking, fishing, etc. He is highly intelligent and believes strongly, sometimes irrationally, in his own capacity to find humane and satisfying solutions to difficult situations. He keeps extremely tight control of his own temper, and is deeply suspicious of ordinary masculine posturing around violence; he is the rare man who genuinely does never make threats, only promises. Finally, he is exceptionally protective of women, children, and even animals, and he is paranoid about any signs of abuse or cruelty toward them; his only citations for excessive force have been in cases of child, spousal, or animal abuse. A more complete psychological analysis is difficult, since Det. Walker responds to psychological evaluations by systematically downplaying his childhood trauma and falling back on an elaborate system of misdirection that makes accurate diagnosis impossible. Accordingly, he is believed to have significant issues surrounding intimacy and emotional vulnerability, which may account for his separation from his wife several months ago."

LIKES: Board games; baseball; animals, especially dogs; exercising; working with his hands, especially woodworking and sailing; fishing; his son; helping people; work well-done for its own sake; happy families, in the existence of which he desperately wants to believe.

DISLIKES: Tourists; cruelty to animals; bullies; alcohol; tobacco; drugs; pretension and arrogance; gambling; shoddy work; above all, cruelty to children, which can bring out a violence that is otherwise absent in his character.

IMPORTANT PSYCHOLOGICAL FEARS: Being burned; being trapped in small spaces; being unable to help while another dies; continuing the cycle of abuse.

HOPES: Having a stable home life, and providing the same for his son; being recognized and valued by his community; someday feeling normal, and whole, and safe.

Both were methamphetamine addicts and involved at a low level in narcotics trafficking through Fall River. Only child; attended school only sporadically, and grades indicate difficulty with basic skills (literacy, arithmetic, etc.) Father served five and a half years in MCI - Cedar Junction, 1984-1990. Key early experiences: extreme poverty, severe neglect, foraging for food in dumpsters and on beachfront hotels frequented by wealthy tourists. Mother died of methamphetamine overdose in son's presence, 07/04/1992. Father arrested for parole violation in subsequent investigation. Child placed in foster care system with Edna and Henry Carver, Plymouth MA, by Massachusetts DCF.

Attended Plymouth public schools. School attendance stabilized while in the Carvers' care. Moved from remedial classes to honors courses in four years. Helpful, considerate, and well-liked by all, but with an open dislike of combat that clashed with prevailing norms. At the recommendation of his lieutenant, applied after the completion of his tour for transfer to Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, Dam Neck, 06/05/2002. For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE: Officer Wilkinson displays a strong sense of duty and conscience. It’s noted that she seems to keep the latter in check around her fellow officers for unknown reasons. This could probably be attributed to small instances she has reported about harrassment in the workplace. It is also noted that Wilkinson has a hidden sense of gallow’s humor that has slipped out a few times, mainly when questioned about her military service.

Officer Wilkinson, despite the aforementioned stipulations, has shown to be a hard worker and very professional in the year she has been with the department. She seems to be somewhat laidback as well, perhaps because she’s comfortable in her position and sees no ambition to make it past Sergeant. Although, she has expressed interest in the SPT and STOP units, but it remains a curiosity for now.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
FAMILY: Estranged parents, Linda and Ronald Wilkinson.
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS:Nothing out of the ordinary
MARITAL STATUS:Unmarried
BASIC BACKGROUND: Holly Willinson grew up in her hometown of Bloody Brook out away from the big city. Her parents were genreally accepting of whatever she wanted to do, as long as she got good grades in school. She was a good kid who kept to her work and skimmed through under the radar. Neither an honor student, nor a flunkie. Holly was fine earning A’s and B’s instead of trying for all straight A’s.

Holly’s interests leaned her towards a career in the Air Force after talking to a recruiter that visited her highschool once. Her parents were rather shocked and harsh words ended up being exchanged. Holly left her home and went straight to the recruitment center. Less than a few months later she was wearing digi tiger stripe and sitting in a checkpoint booth on the border between Saudi-Arabia and Iraq. Her first combat deployment was rather uneventful, save for the time a man drove up to her checkpoint when she was chatting with the QRF guys in the Humvee and opened up with an AKM at her. She was lucky that her body armor stopped the other round.

Her next combat deployment was Bargam Airfield in Afghanistan and she ended up with a few pieces of metal in her from an errant mortar round. After a few other rotations to Kuwait, Germany, and South Korea, she went into the reserves and stayed stateside before she came back to Massachusetts and got herself a house and a job as a police officer. Holly is still rather fresh for her time on the Force, and as a State Trooper.

  • two inch Laceration on right forearm following a knife attack, stitches received August 2017
  • Boxer's fracture in her 4th and 5th metacarpal following her punching a wall, cast applied on December 2017

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE:
Lauren Pryzbylewski is a quiet but headstrong woman. A productive and dedicated type that harbours apprehensions she might not be competent for the job she is working in, but cannot imagine herself outside of it after dedicating years of her life to it. With her sense of perseverance and a dread of failure keeping her going where others would throw in the white flag and give up, she did however come close to it.

She struggles to fight the day-to-day stress by bottling her emotions. Internalizing and compartmentalizing to dull her emotional response so she can do her job adequately without being hurt emotionally by the events. Although this doesn’t consistently work. Her breakdown during the Potts case being a straightforward example of that. She can get intensely committed to a case which can produce a further deterioration of her mental health, contributing to erratic and unstable behaviour. While uncommon, she has had several outbursts in the past which are intense and self destructive. Often resulting short spells of rage and depression as the emotional trauma comes flooding out at once.

On the job, she is a thorough type with a stony calm facade, often appearing as a collected agent who spots the finer details both in individuals and her surroundings. Often picking up on things that people don’t recognize and remembering them in the long run. Something that gives her a great instinct for observing that something is awry or drawing up inconsistencies during examinations, having a healthy gut intuition.

Socially, she is a quiet woman who prefers to keep to herself and can appear somewhat aloof in conversations, but is sincere enough to not irk people, with her often making a habit of recognizing small details about people that make them feel respected. She immensely loyal towards those she knows within her work but harbours trust issues given the cut throat office politics of the FBI. She doesn’t like talking about herself. Especially about her childhood or VCAC days, and she doesn’t like people digging around at either one of those. Being evasive about it when brought up, or just becoming plain frustrated and aggressive if they continue pressing it.

She also possesses some unusual personality tics. She frequently squints her eyes and blinks when trying to concentrate, or within highly stressful situations, particularly arguments. a tic that has been with her for a lengthy time. Additionally, she chainsmokes to handle stress, and is often seen chewing gum to avoid the urge of smoking.

LIKES: Exercise, most notably jogging, running and basketball, which she often uses a way to mediate stress; Menthol gum, a handy tool to avoid her smoking habit; Coffee, a mandatory like when you're working 50 hour plus work weeks, particularly on the longer cases. Prefers a good blend, but will take anything when required; Gaining closure and knowing that justice has been served; Boston, her home; UMass Minutemen; Polish food; American Spirit regulars cigarettes, her go to choice.

DISLIKES: Alcohol, which stems from her experiences in her youth. She does her best to avoid it and will generally refuse a drink from most, generally being worried of relapsing into bad habits; Her smoking habit, she knows itself something that is slowly killing her, even when she starts chain-smoking to deal with high amounts of stress; Local friction, Something that has caused problems despite the FBI being there on a purely advisory basis, makes significant steps to avoid it and not overstep the mark into a situation that could cause it; Lazy people, particularly within the police, as it has hindered investigations on a number of occasions; Abusive people, something that generally really sets her off if they are persistent and refuse to calm down, especially if kids or teenagers are involved.

IMPORTANT PSYCHOLOGICAL FEARS:

Pryzbylewski has fears that she isn't cut out for the employment path she has chosen. Her relatively short amount of time within VCAC (two years.) working predominantly child exploitation cases has left a serious mark on her and at the time produced a substantial breakdown in her mental health and social life. All of which were leading influences in her requested transfer to another unit, in which they brought her over to ViCAP. While the change was expected to ease the bulk of these issues, these issues still largely persist. Lauren has a significant uncertainty in her mind she might not perform in a competent fashion in the ViCAP unit and suffers from imposter syndrome. It is something which she is deeply frightened about, having devoted eight years of her life pursuing this path. She does not understand what she‘d do outside of the job and is genuinely concerned about what she’d do without it.

Besides that, she has fears about what will happen if she proceeds to tough it out. She is alarmed about the possibility of a deeper descent which may contribute to a further degregation of mental health, social life and a regression into issues long left behind in her childhood. Mainly alcoholism and violent behaviour. As stated previously before, her time in VCAC was a wakeup call, and she is keen to avoid another repeat of that. She has been attempting to combat this by diminishing her emotional response with internalization to remain almost indifferent towards encounters. But this seldom works adequately and frequently leads to her becoming more erratic during cases she becomes invested in because of her bottling it up.

In terms of more worldly fears, she possesses a general fear of drowning, something that arises from childhood trauma, and tight, confined spaces such as corridors from her time in the military. Both of which produce a considerable amount of manageable uneasiness and discomfort which can leave her on edge when she is around triggers such as substantial bodies of water and tunnels. In addition, she has a dislike for woodlands, especially those of the pine variety. Which comes from a reoccurring nightmare from her teenage years concerning a pine forest, a grave and a speaking corpse. Although the anxiety and discomfort of that is less intense than the preceding admissions.

HOPES:

Pryzbylewski long term ambition is to ascend the work ladder and advance her career within the FBI, with her carrying a vested interest in making Supervisory Special Agent down the line. Although that desire may be considered shot by her requested transfer out of VCAC for “mental health reasons.”

In the short term, she wishes to prove herself as a reasonable agent within ViCAP and earn the respect of her co-workers.

MARITAL STATUS: Unmarried.

BASIC BACKGROUND:

Lauren Pryzbylewski was born in on October 12th, 1989. She never met her legitimate parents. Her father was a non-existent alcoholic who left after they conceived her, and Lauren’s mother was a teenager in over her head, who turned her daughter up for adoption soon after the birth. Lauren grew up in the Massachusetts state foster care system for most of her childhood. Never establishing a stable family life during this time. A myriad of different families and groups raised her, some of which had differing values as she got transferred from group home to group home throughout most of her early childhood, some of whom weren’t good people.

During her time within a sizable and privately run group home. Lauren suffered from a myriad of mostly mental (although it on several separate occasions graduated into physical) abuse during her five-year stay in her adolescence years. She often found herself singled out and pick on by the owners because of strange behavioural ticks, and general misbehaviour primarily by the group home staff. Which only lead to serious self-esteem issues, absence of self-worth, behavioural and anger issues later down the line as she struggled.

She‘d often find trouble within school and with the locals because of her fighting, underage drinking and frequent runaway attempts, even after she was removed from the group home environment at fourteen and the abuse came to light. With Lauren spent several nights on the streets in the Roxbury area to get away and had multiple run-ins with the Boston police. Her actions ultimately culminated with Lauren being charged twice at fifteen for the further significant incidents involving assault, destruction of property and alcohol-related offences. Given her background, she was given favourable sentencing, and was ordered to do community service, and received assigned youth counselling to put her on the right path. Being appointed a social worker to keep tabs on her, and who helped her out for the better.

While it took time and Lauren found the change to be difficult, she persevered and eventually prospered. With the help of counselling, she was enrolled her within several youth programs, the most prominent being the primary youth violence prevention program. Which helped raise up her self-esteem and self-worth, and instil a better sense of structure and support she previously lacked. Something additionally supported by her meeting a more permanent residence with the Evans, a foster family from the east side of Boston with ties in the state police community, who adopted her shortly before her eighteen birthday after being within their foster care for three years. Her performance within education vastly improved in the subsequent years, with her doing notably well within mathematics, social sciences and sports, primarily basketball, with her playing the shooting guard for her high school’s team. Leading to her graduating with a slightly above average grade set following the end of her secondary education.

Following her leaving high school she worked within the service industry for a while, moving from job to job as she attempted to find a stable living. Following several discussions with Jake Evans, and some other officers within the field, she developed an interest in serving within law enforcement. But lacked the degree to make her a desirable candidate, and did not have adequate funds to per-sue further education, which lead to her to enlist in the army. She completed basic training at Fort Jackson and got assigned the 31B MOS, moving onto advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood. Entering active service following her graduation from advanced training, beginning active service within the 91st MP battalion, being stationed in Fort Drum during her active service.

She got two relatively quiet deployments to the Kandahar province in Afghanistan. Her unit often ran security for transport, installations and bases, and infrequently performed investigations, aid missions and reached out with the locals in the area during these deployments. With Lauren and other female soldiers specifically interacted with the female population during inspections, something that proved to be an interesting experience for her. She had a positive record during her service and proceeded upwards. Reaching the rank of corporal over her four years of active service and obtaining further functional training, notably in domestic violence Intervention techniques at Fort Leonard Wood during her third year in active duty. Lauren considered re-enlisting near the end of her active service to pursue the potential opportunity of working within army CID, but concluded to exit into IRR and enrolled within the University of Massachusetts Boston. Exited active service in early 2011 arriving back home to Boston.

Attended UMass Boston to study Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. Performed well within academia over four years of study and had a clean record, graduated in early 2015. Bearing an interest in joining law enforcement at a federal level and having complying with the stipulations, she applied for the FBI and got a conditional offer. Began in Quantico, Virginia in mid 2015, beginning the four month long training course. Pryzbylewski discovered it to be a demanding, precise but ultimately engaging experience during her time there. She excelled within PT, tactical and operational training, and graduated near the end of the year, receiving her credentials before shipped back to the Boston field office, accepting the appointment to work within the VCAC unit despite the highly distressing nature of their work.

Her short time at VCAC was a harrowing ordeal for her, with her finding herself dealing with paedophiles, kidnappings and child pornography manufacturers. With her first serious job being operation Jeans Web in late 2015. A cooperative task force honey pot operation designed to capture people seeking to uncover illegal materials related to minors on the dark web. Over long several months, Pryzbylewski and several other agents collected information from the user base accessing the fake website. Compiling profiles on numerous suspects and interacting with them online to gather further information. Pryzbylewski found the work to be exceedingly distressing. Showcasing the start of the collection of stress related issues that would develop over her two year period her. With Lauren becoming increasingly dissociative and detached as she sought to block it out to cope, compartmentalizing it from her non work life as much as possible. With the cases conclusion and the shutting down of the honeypot in January 2016, leading to the arrest of twenty-eight users who had accessed the site, who were all swiftly prosecuted.

Later 2016 she was on the pursuit of Philip Clark, working with united states marshals and New Hampshire state police in the hunt for the child molester. Whom had inappropriate sexual conduct with children over ten years in four separate states. The case went on for over a month, with Pryzbylewski and her fellow FBI agents interviewing with the victims to collect evidence for the consequent prosecution. She found the case to be deeply disturbing as she learned further about the psychological manipulation and abuse that Clark had committed. Despite taking steps to distance herself, she came increasingly preoccupied and emotionally engaged in the case, having a powerful desire to catch him. Eventually through painstaking work, he was cornered in his apartment which was being leased under a fake name. During the arrest, Pryzbylewski entered a lengthy foot pursuit with the suspect through downtown Manchester during the marshal raid. When the suspect attempted to retreat from his apartments back window as they made entry. It culminated in Pryzbylewski being injured, being deeply cut with a knife before she restrained the suspect. Taking her out of action for two days, during which she picked up the habit of chain-smoking.

Perhaps the biggest turning point in her career was the kidnapping of Lynda D. McVay, a ten year old girl who disappeared following a bike ride along a service road in rural Vermont at the start of 2017. Assigned to work it, the only evidence that was ever found was a set of tire tracks and the girl's bicycle, which was haphazardly disregarded just off the road in the trees. It was a depressing situation, with the girl's parents becoming increasingly distraught and heated over the absence of progress as their own relationships fell apart. Days of futile searching for indications or evidence continued, and all Pryzbylewski could do was observe from the distance until the FBI agents were dragged off the case. Racked despair from a shortage of progress and guilt for not provide closure and forsaking the parents. Pryzbylewski returned on her own time to Vermont. In a frivolous attempt to maintain the search and turn up something that would bring her in the right direction. It only actually contributing to the disintegration of her own social life, and informal warning from her ASAC.

Her last case was the investigation into Thomas Potts, a producer of child pornography, an emotionally distressing one. To make matters worse, over the course of the investigation her life had been going array. Her long time boyfriend Stephen had left her because of her becoming aloof, with her never really being around any more, and she had drifted away from many of her close college friends who had kept her anchored. She found herself yet again emotionally invested in the case, and it only became worse once they apprehended him. With her having to sit and question the man and shift through mountains of disturbing evidence for the prosecution. It took its toll, and Lauren had a nervous breakdown. With her breaking her hand striking a wall in a fit of rage following an interview with the Thomas, with her later being found by a co-worker sobbing in the woman’s bathroom not long after that. Her bottled up emotions all emerging at once. Following medical treatment and some brief counselling. Seeing the effect it was having on her, it was quietly advised by VCAC ASAC that she voluntarily transfer out or seize up the opportunity to use the FBI therapist. She elected to choose the latter option, citing mental health issues as her reason for her requested transfer.

Given her valuable employment record and having no reason to throw her in a dead end investigative branch, her ASAC requested a transfer over to ViCAP with certain stipulations. Pulling in a few owed favours to do so. At the end of the year, she moved on a new floor, with new co-workers. the Williams case is her second case within the ViCAP. With Pryzbylewski working the New England Robbery Spree alongside senior agent Madeline Elizabeth Pryor, with the pair investigating the violent armoured car robberies that extended over three states.

  • Sylvia Vermelho - Girlfriend - lives in Boston, Massachusetts, works as a Financial Advisor.
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS:
Del Vecchio's relationship with his fellow advisors is limited, he's heard of agents Pryzbylewski and Agent Pryor but has had limited interactions with them. He's worked with Dodson before but on a limited basis.
MARITAL STATUS: Unmarried.
BASIC BACKGROUND: Francis was born the 22nd of January 1984 at Rhode Island Hospital. His parents, Al and Linda were dedicated parents who split their time between their work and their kids. Al was a member of the Providence Police Force and his mother taught English at La Salle High School.

Francis was a middle child, he had a sister named Georgina who was a year older than him, and then a brother Lawrence came three years later. They grew up a very typical catholic New England family. The children took an active part in the church and were active members within many functions. When Francis was around 8, him and his sister were subject to abuse by Father John Jarvis. The abuse lasted for years and deeply affected both children although they informed no one. Believing the threats that the father told them to keep them silent on the matter. Francis would go onto do well in high school. He took up a job at a local bakery down the road from where he lived throughout high school, usually helping to mix dough and doing most of the busy work for the owners.

After graduating in 2002 Francis would be struck by one of the biggest tragedies of his life. During her first year at Brown University his sister would commit suicide in her dorm room. She intentionally mixed several bars of Xanax and alcohol. She left a suicide note for the police and was announced dead at the scene. It was within weeks that Francis, choosing to get as far away as possible from the traumas in Rhode Island joined the Marine Corps. He shipped out to Parris Island and started Boot Camp. He enjoyed the experience, the comradery that came with it. During a weapons familiarization course Del Vecchio was standing next to Recruit Stephen Eulkman and Sergeant William Schulboer, Schulboer was helping Eulkman figure out how to fire the M72A4 Shoulder Fired Rocket, Del Vecchio was waiting for his turn when the tube of the rocket cracked and burst. All three men were badly injured in the accident. Francis suffered a from a major shrapnel wound, a laceration going from the inside his elbow down. He was given medical treatment and given how badly he’d been injured he was discharged and sent home to recover.

He returned home, he quickly went back to work once cleared and signed up for college classes at Providence College. He decided quickly he wanted to be a police officer. He continued his job at the bakery and hammered out his degree. He graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Chinese, choosing the language because he tough it make him more employable given the Critical Language Scholarship Program requirements. He used that and many other scholarships to get him through college relatively debtless. With his degree he went into the Investigation field of the Providence Police Department. Most of his time in the field was investigating mostly petty crime. Murders and other violent crimes were rare enough to where Francis was on call for a good portion of them. During a winter of 2010 he was placed onto a small task force oriented at investigating a series of killings in the Fox Point neighbourhood. Three people had been murdered in the area, all were Asian females aged 15-25. The murders seemed to be only contacted in this way as killing methods and dumping of the bodies all seemed random. After months of investigation DNA evidence lead to the arrests of brothers George and Joseph O’Shea.

After a few more years with the Providence PD he applied and was accepted into the FBI. After finishing his training they put him onto a minor logistical role with an investigation into cross border arms trafficking between Pittsburg New Hampshire and Sherbrooke in Quebec. The racket was toppled after an intensive investigation in which 26 members of the American Vanguard were charged and convicted as well as 17 members of the Front Québécois Libre et Homogène in Quebec. Francis moved up soon after and took part in smaller operations throughout his jurisdiction mostly dealing with illegal arms trade across the Canadian border. He however was pegged for a multi-state murder investigation centered in Maine. The murders here were more gruesome than his last big murder case. The killed had been nicknamed the “Salmon Falls Flayer” for his actions. The teams investigated the scene for nearly a year before they could link a piece of clothing back to a woman named Leslie Joumeau. A close examination of her activities before she disappeared lead to the arrest of Michael C. Brackett.

His next assignment would be closer to home. They selected him to help advise local police in dealing with a serial killer. Much to his dismay, hoping instead to work higher up on FBI cases. However it’s his job and Francis did complain, hoping instead this would just be another stepping stone in his career.

While I am interested in where this character goes, as a reckless, glorified traffic cop is an interesting idea, I do have a few problems with the app. The Massachusetts Serial Homicide Task Force was formed after the two murders discussed in The Case So Far, which occurred in November 2018. Second off, it is incredibly difficult to come right out of college and begin working with the state police in an investigative capacity. You typically require prior experience as a trooper.

I was also told about your views on women; I won't start an argument over it but I won't tolerate those political beliefs interfering with the story. That's all I really have to say about it. I'm very willing to let you in as I think you're a good writer and you have an interesting character here, I just don't want politics becoming a problem.

There wasn't any date regarding the MSHTF so I assumed it had been around for a little while (there was a previous serial killer operating in Massachusetts in the late 1980's). I'll change it so he spends more time in the MSP as a trooper before hand.

There was never going to be any "politics" about it. Just some dude putting his life back together. The whole point was to have him assigned a partner as a moderating influence and the whole "I don't need your help" shtick.

I'll make a few tweaks to the app and change some things. Maybe find a picture of someone that isn't so cheerful.

One of the interesting aspects of Walker is actually that, although he has certain triggers that provoke a violent response, he's probably not known as the detective with an excessive-force problem. Ninety-nine days out of a hundred, he's out there coaching little league, working on his boat, and giving thoughtful Secret Santa gifts at the office. He wears sweater vests and speaks softly and defuses confrontation whenever possible. That's the picture his coworkers would likely have of him. It's just that if you hurt a child, he'll break every bone in your body with a beavertail sap.

WRIGHT, DAVID, DETECTIVE, MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE

BASIC EMPLOYEE INFORMATION
FULL NAME: David Walter Gregory Wright
DOB - AGE: (09/21/1983 - 35)
GENDER: M / F
BIRTHPLACE: Worcester, Massachusetts
ETHNICITY: Caucasian
RELIGION: Not stated.
APPEARANCE Caucasian, 5'9 in height, medium build, auburn hair, green eyes.

MEDICAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITION: Fit
MEDICAL CONDITIONS: None.
MEDICAL HISTORY:
  • Gash on right side of head after traffic accident, treated January 17, 2004.
  • Lacerated right foot, treated July 15, 2012.
  • Broken right index finger from door of residential property, treated June 19, 2016.

This need to work long hours works against him in some instances and fits in with reckless tendencies that he has displayed on more than one occasion and especially so since his transferral to the Plymouth State Police Detective Unit. Pyschological evaluation has revealed that this stems from a need to prove himself, as he hasn't had as much experience as others in the PSPDU.

This has sometimes prompted him to react drastically to the presence of a dog, including shooting one dead during a property search in 2015.
HOPES: David hopes to get his life back on track after the divorce.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
FAMILY:
  • Samantha Fisher (ex wife, married 2007, divorced 2017)
  • Emily Wright-Fisher (daughter, born 2009)
  • Jason Wright-Fisher (son, born 2012)
KNOWN WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS:
MARITAL STATUS: Divorced.
BASIC BACKGROUND: David was born on September 21, 1983 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Eugene Wright, a prominent lawyer in the city, and Barbara Wright (nee Wilkinson), a traditional stay-at-home wife. David is the eldest of three children, he was joined by his younger brother Steven in 1985, and sister Louise in 1988. They were raised in the upper middle class suburb of Shrewsbury where David attended local schools.

He was an outgoing and popular kid with reckless tendencies, he broke an arm aged eight after making a homemade ramp out of wood and riding his bike over it. He was not especially into academics at school, preferring sports and more practical classes instead. Being the oldest son, his father had great expectations of him and David often received the strictest punishments compared with his other siblings. He often admired his uncle, who was a police officer with the Worcester Police Department.

At the end of high school, his father wanted him to go into the family business and become a lawyer, something which David had no interest in doing. He began his legal degree at Worcester State University in 2001 but dropped out the same year. He got himself into a course involving automotive engineering at the Worcester Polytechnical Institute and graduated in early 2003. He met his future wife Samantha Fisher at the Polytechnic, where she was studying nursing.

David spent the summer break of 2004 deciding where to go from there, and didn't fancy working as a mechanic's apprentice. Looking back at his childhood idolation of his uncle, he decided to join the police. He applied with the Massachusetts State Police in 2004 and became part of the 77th Recruit Training Troop, where he graduated in 2007.

Having relocated to New Braintree, David and Samantha remained there to marry before relocating to Middleborough for a fresh start as a married couple. David worked on traffic enforcement for eight years and the couple enjoyed a good lifestyle. This allowed for an expansion of their family, beginning in 2009 with the arrival of their daughter Emily, and again in 2012 with the arrival of their son, Jason. David was particularly fond of Jason.

David was promoted to detective in 2015 after eight years working as a traffic officer. David relished the job but the long hours involved were taking a toll on himself and his family. Eager to prove himself, David would often engage in reckless behaviour. On one of his first cases, David searched a property with another detective and shot dead a dog that belonged to the owner. He was reprimanded but continued to serve as a detective.

The long hours meant sacrificing family time, and Samantha was finding it difficult to look after two children and her nursing career. In 2016, the couple had an argument and separated, before a divorce took place in which Samantha won the majority of the property, including the house, and the savings from the joint account. David moved from Middleborough to the town of Manomet to be closer to work, where he purchased a rundown house in the woods. From there he began to rebuild his life, and focus on his work.

CONNELL, SEAN – DETECTIVE, MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE

BASIC EMPLOYEE INFORMATION
FULL NAME: Sean Matthew Connell
NICKNAME(S), PREFERRED: “Conn” to his friends, but to most he will be Sean. In the past he used to be irritated when his first name was often misspelt, Shaun, Shawn, he is used to it now.
DOB - AGE: (09/15/1968 - 51)
GENDER:Male.
BIRTHPLACE: Braintree, Massachusetts, United States
ETHNICITY: Irish American.
RELIGION: Roman Catholic. His church is the Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth MA. His work keeps him from regular attendances.
APPEARANCE Height: 6`1. Weight: 183 lbs. Hair: Brown going mostly grey. Eyes: Blue. Build: Slightly Muscular. Cauliflower left ear

MEDICAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITION:FIT
MEDICAL CONDITIONS:
  • Nearsighted, he has used contacts for years, but recently had Lasik. He decided against glasses because he thought they would make him look old.
MEDICAL HISTORY:
  • Broken Left Tibia, Vehicle collision, Injured during a collision with a suspect’s vehicle, Sean spent many months on disability at home and then on light duty, despite the ache in his leg, he looks back fondly on his recovery. Surgery March 17th 2013.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE:

“Detective Connell is a highly organised and disciplined individual who has spent much of his adult life in the military and then the State Police. He finds it difficult to tolerate disorder, instead trusting the order and security of routine and planning in his everyday life. He is known to have a strong attendance record and he sticks closely to procedure when investigating cases, more inclined to follow rigidly the facts instead of any abstract theories. He believes strongly in the police and the morality of their mission. There are negatives to such an attitude however, the Detective prioritises personal loyalty, when he gives his word, and he will endeavour to keep it. There have been numerous occasions where the Detective has been questioned in regard to allegations of misconduct by himself or others and has failed to provide any information, prioritising loyalty to individuals whether they deserve it or not, above a higher loyalty to the law. He enjoys being a police officer and the feeling of comradery between serving officers.

Hard working and self-motivated, he will eagerly speak plainly in defence of his ideas and principles. He has been known to exclude suspects, if there is not sufficient evidence to warrant further investigation. This stubborn attitude has caused conflict in his professional and personal life. The established ways of investigation, what has worked again and again are the best. This is also part of problem between the detective and his son Daniel. As a man with a strong belief in tradition, his sons desire to move out of state for college to study music, the Detective disagrees with strongly. The idea of his son wasting his degree on a spurious subject like music, he cannot understand. Instead he believes his son should seek out a safe and reliable career, perhaps by following the path he did into the State Police. Having a son who he considers likely to fail in his ambitions is a much worse, than achieving more realistic and limited aims. His daughter being younger is much more accepting of his traditional style of parenting thus the detective believes he has a much better relationship with his more obedient daughter.

His marriage is the bedrock of his life and the routine of family life suits him well. His wife has gotten used to his practical personality; he rarely makes any romantic gestures, but he is sociable and friendly, never happier than when he is spending time with his family. He aims to get the most out of his free time, as he struggles to sit still. He frequently is out attending social events or where possible purchasing tickets to sports events with friends and family.

After his father’s death from throat cancer, Sean attempted to stop smoking. He used various nicotine substitutes, but with the pressure of the job he has been smoking again recently".

LIKES: Baseball, Football, Basketball, spending time with his family. He enjoys his routine and following procedure in investigations. He believes strongly in loyalty within the police force and doing things “correctly”. Cigerettes.
DISLIKES: His son, who he does not really understand and due to work has been largely absent from his upbringing. Murder investigations, after a number of years and gruesome investigations, he is beginning to regret transferring into the taskforce, he fears he is losing his stomach for dealing with such difficult cases. He instinctively dislikes working with those who are not prepared to put the work in or who deviate from the agreed investigative strategy.
IMPORTANT PSYCHOLOGICAL FEARS: It being proved that his approach to work and life is wrong. Dying in the line of duty at the end of all his years of service. Developing a cancer such as the one that he saw kill his father.
HOPES: To soon retire, the workload is remorseless and having done more than his twenty, the prospect of retirement and following in his brother’s footsteps into a less demanding career is often on his mind.

BASIC BACKGROUND:

Born in Braintree, Ma in 1968 to a well-established Irish Catholic family, Sean did not grow up with any great ambition. He was fine in school yet he did not excel. He enjoyed the sports more so than the academics. He played on the school’s football team as a tight end. He was well cared for at home, yet his parents were distant figures, there were few moments of emotional intimacy, it was more about responsibilities and chores, than any kind of support or encouragement. At the age of 18, he graduated still without any firm direction. His family had no interest in supporting a wastrel, so he was quickly offered the chance to join the military or find somewhere else to live. It was a good decision, as he believes to this day the army was be the making of him.

After making it through basic training, he was sent to the Quartermasters school and eventually an army base in Stuttgart, West Germany. In the army, there was no opportunity to argue, there was only one way to complete a task correctly and this approach had a strong effect on Sean. The discipline of the military, the unthinking acceptance of orders and the recognition he received within it, did much to lessen the boredom associated with service in a Logistics Battalion in the dog days of the cold war.

He did see service out in the Gulf, but it was not the glorious war as depicted on television. He did not see any involvement in the battles of Desert Storm instead; he baked in the desert with the rest of the division. Busying himself painting the division’s vehicles from Forest Green to Desert Tan. It was a boring and laborious task, but Sean prided himself on maintaining the standards of the military even in the rather mundane tasks he busied himself with, providing the fuel, food and water required for the combat units. He did not see any real combat; instead as units were being rotated out, he was repainting the vehicles back from Desert Tan to Forest Green. Upon his return to Germany, the army was beginning to debate downsizing and with his enlistment expiring, he was pleased to receive an honourable discharge. He had joined the military as a potential career but with the end of cold war, there seemed little future in such a path. While he did nothing heroic, he believes his military service was an essential part of his character and outlook on the world.

Back in Massachusetts his elder brother Michael had begun his career in the State Police and he believed that Sean’s military background would put him in good stead for joining him in the organisation. He used his GI benefits to enrol at UMass Boston, certain a position would be open to him upon his return, yet still it was a difficult time. He had to knuckle down and work harder than he had in the past to maintain his grades. He took to keeping his military routines, rising early and spending all day on campus studying. He took a meticulous attitude to his studies and took pride in not missing a lecture in all his time at UMass. He graduated in 1996.

With his brother’s recommendation and support for the interview and testing process, he entered the academy. He showed strong determination to complete his studies. Graduating as a trooper, he found many similarities between the militarised environment of the State Police and the military. He thrived in such an environment. He was easily accepted and his work ethic and organisation kept him away from any discipline infractions. He got good service reports and enjoyed the work. If he made a mistake, he had good people around him who would cover up for him and put it right.

This loyalty got him into trouble for the first time with the cancellation of the traffic tickets; it was almost an open secret in the barracks. If someone was pulled over and they were friends or family of a MSP or local police unit, the traffic ticket was ripped up on the spot. If a ticket was issued in error, the passcode would be used to cancel the tickets and remove any previous SDIP point penalties. Eventually word the practice got out and an investigation was held, Sean was a lowly trooper at the time, so he followed the example of others and kept his mouth shut, eventually the case was dropped. It was an important lesson.

It was not long after that he was offered his first chance at advancement, into the MSP’s Gang Unit. It was a closely knit unit which provided ample opportunity for overtime. He was pleased to put in extra hours to keep the paperwork straight, even helping “adjust” it at times, to make sure it looked right at end. It was during these years that there were a few regrettable excesses. But Sean still kept his silence, knowing these were the people who had his back on the street. It was in the Gang Unit, he got his first taste of complicated investigations and how his skills of organisation and simple hard work produced results. It was around this time; with his son already one he married Katherine. They had met through the wide social network of the law enforcement community; Katherine’s cousin was a BPD officer. Sean was not the most romantic person, yet he was reliable and practical. It was a good relationship and with the costs of a new family, he was driven to work harder and work longer hours to provide.

The best time of his career so far was his time with the Auto Theft Strike Force. There were many opportunities to work with different agencies and his organised and methodical style suited such cases. He learned to distrust those who relied on brief moments of inspiration, instead of long hours checking details and statements to gain enough evidence for a conviction. It was the most productive time of his career, it was a small elite unit and there were numerous opportunities for overtime and working closely with a select few close colleagues on long surveillances those who understood and accepted his rigid view of the world and how work should properly be conducted. In 2012, after a round of budget cuts the Strike Force was closed. Sean still bitterly disagrees with the decision; it was a highly effective unit which was closed for political expediency. After the force was disbanded, Sean applied for assignment to the Detective Unit.

It seemed like a natural progression, yet the Detective Unit was much more accepting of unconventional work styles, only the results mattered here. Sean found himself having to put in longer hours than some of his colleagues to find the small discrepancies in statements or evidence, which would lead to a conviction. Still his meticulous style was appreciated, the district attorney was pleased to receive Sean’s casework, as he has yet to make a mistake in any of his paperwork or procedure. Still the unit’s method of large and complicated investigations suited him well and he found himself adapting to work in the detective unit. It was a change, even if Sean did not like to admit it. He had gone from investigating professional criminals to grisly murders. Having worked in the detective unit for six years, he has begun to tire of the misery of investigating homicides and the crushing disappointment when a case was left unsolved. If a burglary was unsolved there was always insurance, there was no such thing for homicide. His assignment to the taskforce may well be the final straw; his brother having already turned his successful career in the state police into a rewarding and high paid position in the private sector. Having completed his own twenty years of service, Sean cannot help the nagging feeling that he does not need to be investigating such disturbing cases anymore.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION: He is a big supporter of Boston sports teams and is always up for social events. He is hopefully considered a decent detective, who strongly believes in the blue wall, for those he believes deserve it.
