He became involved with an experimental Mech Program “Light Shining in the Darkness” as a test pilot and advisor to the engineers. When the Mech was finished he managed to steal it and destroyed a Messiah base in the escape.

Since then he has served in combat as a mech pilot for AIP, fighting more battles for his new faction often using his intimate knowledge of the Messiah Institute against them. But the constant fighting against those once his family has taken its toll and Daniel has begun to question his ability to keep going.

Backstory: A-4 was created by Euclid Industries, a subsidiary of Erudite Robotics, for the purpose of recording the conquests of Hun Lao, the grandfather of Yuan Lao, though he spent more time chatting up the female androids than writing down the various battles his master had fought. When the warlord discovered this neglect, he ordered A-4 to be melted down into bullets, only to show leniency when the archival android ousted Jin Lao's tutor as a spy. Being demoted to the rank of tutor and replaced as chronicler by A-5, A-4 made the most of his situation, teaching Hun Lao's heir about the strategies employed by his ancestors and their enemies, gaining him the patronage of the future warlord. When Jin Lao ascended to his father's throne, A-4 was placed in charge of an experimental mech squad as part of modernizing the army and given him Azrael, an antiquated mech that had been taken by Hun Lao as a trophy after defeating a Messiah Institute expedition, a decision that was the last straw for several members of the already alienated aristocrats. Their rebellion was short lived, the better trained and better equipped loyalists easily crushing the hastily conscripted armies they faced on the battlefield. However, rather than accept a promotion, A-4 resigned from the mech program in order to return to his previous role as chronicler, A-5 having been melted down into pistol triggers for betraying Jin Lao to Jun Hao, the leader of the ill-fated rebellion. As Jin Lao was on his deathbed, the old warlord asked whether to name his nephew Dao or his grandson Yuan. A-5 simply answered "Yuan", Jin simply smiling as he gasped his last breath. For this support, A-4 became Yuan Lao's advisor, the warlord proving that he was worthy of the Lao name.

When Yuan Lao threw his lot in with the AIP, A-4 was once again fighting on the frontlines, though his antiquated mech had trouble keeping up with the more modern mechs used by both the Alliance and the warlords they were fighting. Once Cao Cao was united, A-4 was given the Lao family sword for safekeeping and made the headmaster of the He Jin Military Academy. With an army of androids attacking Zhang Xiu, A-4 has decided that it is time to take Azrael out of the mothballs.

Personality: Experienced mercenary with a tendency to underplay dangerous situations and believe highly in his own abilities while undervaluing teammates. Also believes that the lives of other people are not worth his own.

Backstory:
Growing up on a backwater colony out in the stars was a unique and often deadly experience. Never really having a childhood between having to work the fields to keep the farm up and running and always helping the other colonists fight off rouge pirates and raiders that were a common sight in the far off reaches of human space. By the time he turned 19 most of the people he grew up with or cared about were dead or had already left the failing colony so seeing no future where he was Kalen joined the RCMC as an infantryman and quickly learned what real warfare fighting looked like. Kalen rose slowly through the ranks until he decided that he wanted more than just the life of an expendable soldier fighting on worlds no one had ever heard of, He left the RCMC and sought out an old friend from the colony that had found success in the business of mech making.

Finding his friend more than willing to help kalen with his goals and allowed him to test prototypes of new mechs in combat while allowing Kalen to keep the money. Kalen quickly became attuned to the life of a mercenary fighting for all types of factions and not really caring who, he gained fame as a professional and the contracts became better and better until he was getting payed miraculous sums of money for even small contracts. He eventually acquired enough money to design his own super heavy mech naming it Pale Horse, a nod to the horse death is said to ride. After the acquisition of this new weapon he became the deadliest he had ever been and only continued to gain more wealth.

In his personal life Kalen has not been as proficient as his military career, several failed relationships as well as a short and tragically ending marriage he has been left with two children to care for, his son Coran and daughter Bliss. He has tried to keep his children away from the life he lives but nothing can really be concealed when he's a celebrity. Assassination attempts were nothing new until one went wrong and Coran was shot through the spine, paralyzing him from the neck down. Now he works away from his kids knowing that his presence around them is only a danger.

Personality: Experienced mercenary with a tendency to underplay dangerous situations and believe highly in his own abilities while undervaluing teammates. Also believes that the lives of other people are not worth his own.

Backstory:
Growing up on a backwater colony out in the stars was a unique and often deadly experience. Never really having a childhood between having to work the fields to keep the farm up and running and always helping the other colonists fight off rouge pirates and raiders that were a common sight in the far off reaches of human space. By the time he turned 19 most of the people he grew up with or cared about were dead or had already left the failing colony so seeing no future where he was Kalen joined the RCMC as an infantryman and quickly learned what real warfare fighting looked like. Kalen rose slowly through the ranks until he decided that he wanted more than just the life of an expendable soldier fighting on worlds no one had ever heard of, He left the RCMC and sought out an old friend from the colony that had found success in the business of mech making.

Finding his friend more than willing to help kalen with his goals and allowed him to test prototypes of new mechs in combat while allowing Kalen to keep the money. Kalen quickly became attuned to the life of a mercenary fighting for all types of factions and not really caring who, he gained fame as a professional and the contracts became better and better until he was getting payed miraculous sums of money for even small contracts. He eventually acquired enough money to design his own super heavy mech naming it Pale Horse, a nod to the horse death is said to ride. After the acquisition of this new weapon he became the deadliest he had ever been and only continued to gain more wealth.

In his personal life Kalen has not been as proficient as his military career, several failed relationships as well as a short and tragically ending marriage he has been left with two children to care for, his son Coran and daughter Bliss. He has tried to keep his children away from the life he lives but nothing can really be concealed when he's a celebrity. Assassination attempts were nothing new until one went wrong and Coran was shot through the spine, paralyzing him from the neck down. Now he works away from his kids knowing that his presence around them is only a danger.
