Back by (sort of) popular demand! Like John Lennon Matryoshka dolls. Who doesn't love those?

Gods Among Us is a character based, story driven, role-play. It focuses on Superheroes in a world where they have been known for a while. It will be heavily action-orientated with short, succinct plot lines for your characters to punch, shoot, kick and eye-laser their way through.

-----The World as we know it in 2019-----

Meta-humans, or whatever you want to call them, have been around for as long as human history. Over the ages they have been described in a variety of ways, magicians, demi-gods, monsters, witches, heroes. As cultures change, so has the way people came to describe them. The witch hunts of the middle ages drove those with powers into hiding, and the rationality of the enlightenment caused people to stop believing in them, though in the 20th century, all that began to change. The first modern reports of meta-human activity date back to the First World War, and they accelerated from there until, by the 1970s, there was little doubt in the minds of any but the most sceptical individuals, that there were people with extraordinary powers living among us.

Since then, some people have used their powers to do good. Many have used them for personal gain. The governments of the world have, inevitably, attempted to use people of power for their own purposes.

In 1999, seven of the world's most powerful meta-humans led by a man known as 'the Seer' met at a secret location, somewhere in the continental United States. The people who came to the meeting were a diverse group from different countries, different religions and each harbouring their own world-view. What unified them was a shared desire to do good in the world and a shared concern that public opinion of meta-humans would be shaped by the criminals and the selfish. The meta-humans at the conference feared that this would lead to the meta-human community being victimised by a fearful population of normal humans and they sought to prevent that from ever happening. The meeting dragged on for three days, but at the end of it, the world had it's first super-hero team, the 'First Earth Battalion'.

Anyone with abilities is free to join the First Earth Battalion and they are free to leave at any time. The Battalion is secretive and doesn't owe allegiance to any country, although the Seer is known to make appearances at the UN (in New York) and the First Earth Battalion's public headquarters is in Manhattan (though they have safe-houses around the globe). It has, over the years, included all manner of interesting people, from wanted criminals to University lecturers. While it is still administered by the original seven meta-humans (who now call themselves the 'Council of Seven'), members are, generally, given free reign to do as they please, provided that they abide by the rules the Council agreed at the first conference.

The rules of the Battalion state that a member of the First Earth Battalion should:
  • give their loyalty, before all else, to the planet earth and the people on her.
  • follow the instruction of the Council of Seven.
  • protect the weak and defenceless.
  • live honourably and bring honour to the Battalion.
  • never abandon a task you have agreed to.
  • always stand firm against meta-humans who would harm the innocent.

-----You-----

You are a member of the First Earth Battalion. Other than that, feel free to be as creative as you like... with two exceptions:
  • Please do not to write is a character that's existence proves/disproves any particular IC religious viewpoint. Why? Because I like to create a whole range of interesting diverse characters who hold contradictory views on the working of the universe. If someone writes a Roman Catholic Angel who communes with the Pope every Friday and Second Wednesday, it makes all the atheist/hindu/protestant characters look like they are being a bit silly.
  • Please pitch characters somewhere in the Wolverine/Batman/Spider Man general level of power (yes, I know their powers change a bit between comics and their film iterations, but hopefully you get the general idea). Do not pitch them at the Superman/Dr. Manhattan level. This is designed so that 'peak human' characters are not completely useless and so that you will, as a team, encounter some villains who you can't beat solo.
I'll allow big powers if they come with big weaknesses and also if they are highly situational, e.g. the ability to turn toucans into thermonuclear weapons probably wouldn't be useful all that often... unless you also write the character as carrying a sack of toucans around with them.

We are open to characters who aren't members of the FEB, currently, provided that they link into the story and aren't going to detract from the main plot. If you have an idea, feel free to ask and we'll figure out a way to work you in.

-----The Story So Far-----

The First Earth Battalion responded to what they believed was a robbery in progress at the First Brooklyn Savings Bank being carried out by the infamous meta-humans known as 'Hellgate' and 'Blur'. After engaging the two meta-humans and their accomplices, Blur was seriously injured fighting Death Bullet (an FEB Hero) and a number of accomplices were either killed or incapacitated. A truck thrown at Hellgate failed to kill him. The robbers fled back to the bank at which point Blur pleaded for a brief window to negotiate a surrender. During this window, a previously unknown meta-human who had been in the bank opened a portal, allowing the robbers to slip through the FEB's fingers.

The robbery, however, turned out to be a distraction designed to lure the FEB Heroes away from their headquarters where the Council of Seven were gathered for negotiations. While they were away, unknown assailants infiltrated FEB Headquarters and planted a bomb which detonated, destroying the building and killing six of the seven Council members. The surviving Council member, 'The Seer', remains in a coma.

-----Lore-----

How to get stuff in the Lore Section
As people create characters, and they are accepted, the lore will be built up around them (and written here). For instance, if you want to write a werewolf character and you write a whole lot of stuff about what being a werewolf means, that will then become the thread's lore around werewolf and anyone who subsequently wants to write a werewolf will need to make it work with your character.

Mythological Monsters
The Fae, sometimes known as 'Fairies', 'Elves', 'Nymphs', etc. are extra-dimensional beings that inhabit a world adjacent to our own. The Fae may occasionally appear as small people with wings or peculiar talking animals, though for the most part they look like fairly normal humans, except for the eyes which (usually) resemble those of a cat.

The lands on the other side are a strange, brutal place full of magic and monsters. While it is, technically, possible to cross from one side to the other, there is very little reason you would want to cross to the other side (unless you wanted to be eaten by a giant, talking spider or three-headed, carnivorous giraffe). During earlier periods of history, contact with the Fae was relatively common, though now they are rare visitors to our world. There are two main theories amongst those who are aware of their existence; either the Fairy world and our world are slowly drifting apart or the widespread use of iron has made ventures to Earth too risky.

The Fae themselves are divided into two factions; the 'Seelie' and 'Unseelie' Courts. Despite the human tendency to see the Seelie Fae as the 'good' side, Fae from both factions are capricious and given to cruelty. The only difference is the 'Seelie' Fae will tend to kill and maim people in a manner they find amusing, while the 'Unseelie' Fae will kill or maim people just because they can. That being said, the Fae are not unthinking brutes, can be reasoned and bargained with and make powerful allies... if they think it is in their interest. If they don't think being helpful is in their best interest they are about as trustworthy as a leopard in a kindergarten.

The Fae will typically display powers from this list (though not all will have all of them):
  • Enhanced reflexes and dexterity.
  • Enhanced strength.
  • Extreme durability and fast healing.
  • Night vision.
  • Unnaturally quiet gait.
  • Magical abilities - usually revolve around creating illusions, sleep and portal creation.

The Fae, universally display the following weaknesses:
  • Vulnerability to iron.
  • Inability to knowingly tell a lie or break a deal (their interpretation of the deal).
  • Can be summoned, warded against and trapped with magic.

Biological Vampires
Since the dawn of civilisation, notations of vampires have existed. Mesopotamians, Hebrews, Ancient Greeks, and Romans had tales of demons and spirits which are considered precursors to modern vampires. What we know and call vampires today though originates almost solely from 18th century Europe, when theological situations were changing heavily. The typical 'blood sucking, garlic hating, silver fearful parasites' were found to be seen as fact by few during this time. This is only partially true, but to understand a vampire one must go further back.

The vampires that a person would more usually encounter originated in southern Asia thousands of years ago, vampires are not mythological beasts, but rather humans who cracked open a stone vault that they really shouldn't have. Though long since gone, near what is now Lahore, Pakistan is a cave that, at that point at least, had been sealed off for nearly half a million years. Within a colony of creatures so small, the tribesmen who broke into the cave knew not what was within. Bacterial infection set in, and within days those who entered the cave found themselves either dead, or changed. And thus the first vampires were born.

While initially just a small plague, those who were infected became frail, if powerful individuals. Evolution took place, as word was passed down from parent to child, hazards, ways of living, and options to take in regards to their apparent god granted powers. With time, the bacteria, mutagenic in nature, changed the carriers. Unable to live outside human bodies, the bacteria became as mutually beneficial as the bacteria living in the human digestive tract.

Always small in number, these 'biological vampires' have the following traits:
    1. Anaemia, which has been the basis of pale skin, and the reliance on blood, as their bodies have been accustomed to digesting it for a large stock of iron.
    2. Severe Allicin allergies, the chemical commonly found as a natural pesticide in Garlic has been proven to result in a fatal allergic reaction from vampires. Even if smelled it will result in hives at best and a closed throat at worst.
    3. Chemically induced biological immortality. This chemical secreted by the bacteria has proven to greatly prolong the human lifespan, ranging from 600-700 years more. Unfortunately, said chemical also induces chronic and very reactive photosensitivity. A vampire will typically not be able to remain in direct sunlight -or UV light- for more than 40 seconds before appearing to enter a state of shock, if not treated properly, they will either die from bacterial infection -ironically- or recursive sun exposure.
    4. A very rapid, very acute, and nigh always fatal nickel allergy. This seems to be the basis of the aversion to silver, as sterling silver can contain traces of nickel, and nickel silver which was common in the 1700s, is not silver, but rather a copper, nickel, and zinc alloy.
    5. Elongated canine teeth. As expected, vampires have elongated canine teeth, leading to pockets in the sinuses in which the bacteria that grants them their power sits. Much like snakes, there are hollow tubes that can be opened or closed on demand to inject the veritable poison into a victim.
    6. Vampires heal quickly. While not to the degree of regrowing limbs in seconds, vampires can heal faster than the average human. gunshot wounds and knife wound will typically heal in days or weeks depending on severity, bouts of illness will last at worst a week, and limbs will regrow in two or three years time.
    7. They will actively emit pheromones that can be used to allure others. This is mostly based on the sensitivity of smell of those surrounding it, those with a greater sense of smell will show a more positive reaction, while those with a duller sense of smell will show a more natural reaction. Typically this is no more than seeing an attractive individual on the street or speaking with someone you trust. It cannot overrule basic survival instincts, and it cannot control people's minds. No matter how much one trusts someone or thinks they're attractive, you're going to run from someone with a knife, or shy away from a screaming match.
    8. Vampires are stronger and quicker. As expected from a group that heals quicker, muscles do as well. While inherently, vampires are not super-humanly strong, they do have a much higher capacity for force and strength than normal humans.

The following are myths and do not apply to 'biological vampires':
    1. Vampires do in fact have reflections. This trait was only popularised by Bram Stoker, based on the silver found in mirrors being 'holy' and thus incapable of reflecting a vampire. This also carries over to film and photographs on the same basis, as silver can also be found in physical film.
    2. Vampires also have shadows. Another popularisation by Bram Stoker. Perhaps based on the misconception of spending their time in darkness to hide their lack of shadow.
    3. Vampires become dust upon death. Bram Stoker again. Unless they are cremated, they will remain a corpse. As odd as it may be.
    4. Vampires can only be killed by a wooden stake. Typically, anything will die if one rams a six inch wooden spike into it's heart.
    5. Vampires can be killed via decapitation. As with above, having one's head removed will typically kill anything.
    6. Fire/Drowning will Kill Vampires. Same as the above two.
    7. Holy Symbols will keep vampires at bay. During a time of faith, those with a belief in God will believe the almighty may protect them from something they see as foul and demonic. During the 18th century, vampires that could 'resist' the power of God and their holy righteousness were hunted down and killed very brutally, and quickly. Smart vampires during this time usually just rolled with it. While a vampire may act as if it wards them away, it's more self-preservation than anything.
    8. Vampires can only reproduce via biting others. Born vampires are vampires born from a union of one vampire with another. After a 6 month gestation period, the child will usually reach maturity in 8 years. Typically, born vampires will always appear to be early 20s in appearance. Turned Vampires are the ones 'born' from a bite, and will take the appearance they were when turned, regardless of age or chemical processes. In the case of one's immune system not being able to take the bacteria's changes, they will become a Ghoul. Ghouls are frail, though deceptively strong, and seemingly unintelligent, their bodies will be in a constant state of pain, in which the pheromones emitted by a vampire are all that can relieve it to any great degree.
    9. Vampires must be invited in. Manners are quite important, only hoodlums and scoundrels would break into one's home, and while they would drink blood, Vampires are still human if a bit strange.
    10. Vampires are obsessed with counting. Somewhat of a mixed bag, after a certain age, vampires will do almost anything to keep sane, as such, older vampires will do things usually foreseen as 'OCD' while younger ones may forgo it, unless they're expecting guests.

As mentioned above, vampires do reproduce sexually, this is not limited to vampire-vampire unions. Should a vampire have a union with a normal human a Dhampir will be born. In 97% of cases, if the mother is a normal human, they will die during childbirth, while vampire mothers will survive no worse for wear. Dhampir will typically live as long as their vampire parent.

Dhampir have the following traits:
    1. Allicin allergy, the chemical commonly found as a natural pesticide in Garlic has been proven to result in a a very acute reaction in Dhampir. While still a risk of death, a simple epi-pen or hospital trip can be all that's needed to help them.
    2. Chemically induced biological immortality. Much like their vampire parent, they will have a prolonged lifespan, though for somewhat unknown reasons, the chemical is not as prevalent, and while the lifespan is the same, Dhampir will age more noticeable in their middle age and late years, and are more prone to sunburns.
    3. Elongated canine teeth. As with their vampire parentage, Dhampir have somewhat uselessly elongated canines, as they do not have the same cavities that their vampire parent has, and as such cannot turn people into vampires themselves.
    4. Dhampir heal quickly. While not to the degree of regrowing limbs in seconds, Dhampir can heal faster than the average human. Gunshot wounds and knife wounds will typically heal in 1-3 weeks depending on severity, bouts of illness will last at worst a couple of weeks, and limbs will regrow in 5 years at worst.
    5. Dhampir are stronger and quicker. As expected from a group that heals quicker, muscles do as well. While inherently, Dhampir are not super-humanly strong, they do have a much higher capacity for force and strength than normal humans.

With the advent of commonality and a lessened degree of superstition surrounding them, the 'biological vampires' have, for what seems to be the first time in millennia, come out of the darkness, figuratively at least, and have joined the lands of humanity in trying to build a better future.

Magical Vampires
While most vampires are of the biological type described above, there exist another, altogether different group. Their exact origins are unknown, but their powers and weaknesses are much closer to those described by Bram Stoker. Whether they were came into existence before or after the novel is unknown, though it is known that a magical force was present in their creation (the creation of monsters out of a novel that then goes on to murder a whole lot of people is exactly the sort of thing that a Seelie Court Fae would find hilarious, though there is no evidence aside from that that they had anything to do with it). Specifically, their powers and weaknesses are:

  • Creating a new vampire requires a bite, from a vampire of the opposite sex. If bitten by a vampire of the same biological sex, a victim may be rendered into a servile 'ghoul' (similar to those mentioned above). Survival, however, is still not guaranteed.
  • Once bitten, a vampire will not biologically age, meaning they can be trapped in childhood.
  • Highly enhanced strength and speed.
  • Highly developed senses including the ability to smell blood from 5 miles away.
  • Night vision.
  • The ability to transform into a bat.
  • These vampires need to consume large quantities of blood to avoid reverting to a bestial state.
  • Vampires of this sort have glowing red eyes that are particularly obvious at night.
  • Direct sunlight can burn a vampire of this sort to ash, quickly.
  • Like their biological counterparts, these vampires are highly allergic to allicin.
  • Holy objects can burn or petrify this type of vampire. Specifically, this is the vulnerability is to the psychic imprint humans leave on a ritual object.
  • While these vampires have reflections, seeing it can cause vertigo, nausea, slight amnesia and a degree of amnesia.
  • Decapitation and staking are the only reliable way to kill these vampires.
  • Rapid regeneration from most wounds.
  • Weakness to silver and wooden objects (which also interfere with the ability to regenerate).

-----The Rules-----

  • Decisions
My word and the word of anyone I appoint as a Co-OP (yes, there will be co-ops) is binding. If you don’t like a decision, you can, of course, ask for us to reconsider it. Once. If we made a decision you don’t like, complaining for pages and pages is not going to endear you to anyone. Not me, not the Co-OPs and not your fellow writers.
On that note, I intend to run this thread as an anarcho-communist cooperative. This is an unnecessarily complicated way of saying that my word DOES NOT overrule theirs. If there is an appeal and a dispute amongst the Co-OPs we will take a vote on the matter.
  • Post Quality
I don’t have a beef with short posts but please use proper spelling (I don’t care what regional variant), grammar etc.
Ideally also try to include a 'hook' when you write a post, which is to say something that gives other people something to respond to. If your post is something along the lines of 'Bilbo Baggins stayed in his room and read a book while the world was ending', don't be surprised if nobody responds to you.
  • Posting Commitment: Nothing is worse than making an RP only for it to die. Please try to make at least one post every 48 hours or so. If you find yourself unable to post, please let me know in the OOC thread. If it looks like you've abandoned a character in the middle of a fight scene I might decide to kill them off... but this is a super-hero RP, I'm sure we can find a creatively improbable way to resurrect them if you reappear!
  • Posting Speed On the flip side, blitz posting can also be infuriating. So, especially during the important scenes, I recommend giving your fellow players a reasonable time to make a reply. We all have real lives. That being said, if someone leaves everyone waiting for over 48 hours, feel free to carry on the scene without them.
  • OOC thread Manners
Nothing annoys me more than bad manners on an OOC thread (apart from that 'Look at my horse, my horse is amazing' song). Swearing, passive-aggressive sniping or any other rude behaviour are not welcome on the OOC. I will warn you once. If you can’t control yourself I will ask you to remove yourself from the thread.
  • IC thread Manners
Remember, we are writing a story together, not playing to win. If I think you are writing your character as overpowered, I will ask you to tone it down.
  • Character Death
Player death is possible in this RP, though will be quite rare and easily avoidable. Please don’t write that you have killed another character unless you have OOC permission from the character's owner to do it. Beat them into a pulp or take them prisoner, but don’t kill them. Having said that, if someone does something really stupid, I reserve the right to announce your character has got themselves killed. Likewise, if someone goes inactive in the middle of a fight scene without explanation and cannot be raised, I may decide to kill their character off.
  • Keep it PG13
Shouldn’t need to be telling you this really but keep the erotica and gorn off the thread. Hopefully you all know how to write forum-safe stuff. I will be extremely disappointed if the mods have to pay us a visit.
  • Banning Players
I really don’t want to be doing that but reserve the right to if you cannot follow the (hopefully, rather simple) rules above.

-----The People in Charge-----

Any Co-OP who joins me in helping to run this thread is an 'owner' in their own right. Nobody overrules anyone else and if there is a big decision, we will talk about it as a group and make a decision by consensus/vote.

If you are a Co-OP, feel free to do anything I might do!

The people currently in charge are:
  • Demencia
  • Dyelli Beybi (that's me!)

-----Important NPCs-----

Characters of the First Earth Battalion

Image

Since the foundation of the First Earth Battalion, the Seer has always acted as the Head of the Council of Seven. The Seer was once a gifted Philosophy student, though as he worked towards his doctorate he began to be plagued by strange dreams and visions. In time, he came to realise that the dreams and visions were real, images of events in the past he had never been at or images of a future which might yet come to pass.

The Seer never takes the field with the other heroes, that would be a recipe for suicide, though his visions have allowed him to five advice and guidance that has helped to steer the other heroes of the First Earth Battalion towards victory time and time again.

What the Seer sees, however, is only ever glimpses and while he advice is usually good, it is never complete.

In the 90s, David Raynott was the superhero known as ‘Captain Silver’ (super strength, endurance and reflexes), though only a few of the inner circle of the First Earth Battalion know his secret.

Injured in a fight, Raynott abandoned his life as a superhero, finding fulfilment as a family man and a new career as a lobbyist for the First Earth Battalion (an organisation he had flat-out refused to join while an active superhero). Raynott has, over the years, built a network of contacts amongst American politicians and Generals and is pretty good at securing funding and equipment for the FEB.

At 6’4’’, Raynott is still a giant of a man. Were he to ever come out of retirement he would, doubtless, be a force to be reckoned with…

Villains

Image

Blur and Hellgate are the names given to a pair of metahuman criminals known to be working with a well-connected criminal group which has recently robbed a number of high profile targets on the East Coast.

Blur is known to be female, 5’5’’ tall with dark hair and hazel eyes. She tends to wear close fitting dark clothing and a domino mask. Blur is known to favour non-lethal outcomes but will taunt her opponents. Blur is a speedster who fights with a pair of tonfas.

Hellgate is about 6’2’’ tall and male with a muscular build. Little else is known about his appearance as he inevitably appears wearing a rusty full metal face mask and the kind of body armour that might usually be associated with a bomb squad. Hellgate is known to be able to fling fire and melt/ignite objects he touches. While it is unclear exactly what he is doing, while bullets clearly hurt Hellgate, they don’t seem to do much more than that. Hellgate appears to enjoy killing people. A lot.

Lo and behold, it lives.

Does everyone have to be a member of the FEB? I was thinking about possibly dusting off my government-crafted Meta-assassin gone rogue if there could be a bit of entrepreneurial chaos allowed

I'd like all of the main characters in the FEB (bearing in mind they don't require you to be a Saint), though there is reason in my madness! I'm putting that restriction in place so that there is a reason for everyone to regularly interact with one another and so that the story can be progressed more easily.

Having said that, if you would like, once the intro plot is done, like to write a story for people and include a non FEB character, I would definitely support that!

Concept: An adolescent Evenki nomad made into a superpowered immortal by the Tunguska event, who later fought in WW2 in a secret Allied super group, which was disbanded near the end of the war due to various controversies. (paralleling the senate hearings that lead to the creation of the Comics Code Authority around the end of the Golden Age of Comics) He then went into a sort of self-imposed exile due to his general disillusionment with humanity, and recently joined the team due to having a change of heart for some reason. (Perhaps the last remaining member his old team recently died, and tried to push him to go back into the world?)

I really like the concept especially the link with the comic book code.

If you don't mind a spoiler for the heist mission, I have a potential motivator that you might like for this character (which I will tgram if you are interested)?

Dyelli Beybi wrote:I'd like all of the main characters in the FEB (bearing in mind they don't require you to be a Saint), though there is reason in my madness! I'm putting that restriction in place so that there is a reason for everyone to regularly interact with one another and so that the story can be progressed more easily.

Having said that, if you would like, once the intro plot is done, like to write a story for people and include a non FEB character, I would definitely support that!

I figured so, but it was worth asking. I'll have to do some tinkering, I don't have any characters that are 'good' or would fit on a team at the moment. (Aside from a character who has no control over her power and would most certainly not be any use to the FEB) so I'll try to get something from scratch

Gods Among Us Character Application

Thread being Applied for: The First Earth Battalion
Character Description
    Name: Andrew Marks
    Aliases: Snake Eyes
    Gender: M
    Age: 21
    Appearance:
6'0, 126 lbs. green and yellow scaly skin, black long hair, and glazed milk white eyes. Skinny and lean. Often wears a black hoodie jacket and jeans along with a pair of sunglasses.

Motivations
Goals: Gain approval from his friends and superiors as well as put his serpentine powers to good use.
Fears: Has a deep fear of mongooses and accidentally biting an innocent.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Source of Power: Telepath with natural venom.
    Powers :
-Snake Physiology: Has snake-like physical traits and senses, including venomous fangs, a forked prehensile tongue, which enhances smell, scaly skin, cold-blood, and elongated jaw.

The venom of the Andrew Marks' fangs consists primarily of neurotoxins, known as the haditoxin, with several other compounds. The toxins affect the victim's central nervous system, resulting in severe pain, blurred vision, vertigo, drowsiness, and beventually paralysis. If the envenomation is serious, it progresses to cardiovascular collapse, and the victim falls into a coma. Death soon follows due to respiratory failure. Bites from Andrew may result in a rapid fatality which can be as early as 30 minutes after the envenomation. Andrew's envenomation has even been measured to be capable of killing elephants within hours.

The venom he spits, however, is generally harmless on intact mammalian skin (although contact can result in delayed blistering of the area), but can cause permanent blindness if introduced to the eye; if left untreated it may cause chemosis and corneal swelling.

-Snake Manipulation: Andrew can control a dozen all kinds of snakes within a 5 mile radius, summoning them to do his bidding, like helping him during situations, using them against foes, and use them to see, helping him with his blindness. Andrew can also understand and communicate with them able to create strong bonds and friendships.

Abilities: Despite his blindness, Andrew is a formidable fighter even without his snakes acting as eyes, fully capable of fighting as if wearing a blindfold. Though he does need his snakes for other activities he likes doing, such as video games. Nonetheless, Andrew Marks still has trouble reading and writing normally and still relies on braille and such.
    Equipment:

keeps a pair of daggers on himself.

    Has about fourteen snakes:

-Rango: Boa Constrictor; Andrew's favorite and first friend
    -Lenny: King Cobra
    -Rachel: Milk Snake
    -Charles: Coral Snake
    -Jonny: Yellow Boa
    -Susan: Black Mamba
    -Philp: Amazon Tree Boa
    -Tom: Western Diamondback Rattle Snake
    -Cindy: Green Tree Python
    -Arthur: Copperhead
    -Dutch: Ball Python
    -Hosea: Black-necked Spitting Cobra
    -Sadie: Emerald tree boa
    -Uncle: Burmese Python

Weaknesses: Exothermic: Andrew can't survive in cold temperatures, especially during winter, thus he must keep himself warm at all times, ether by wearing extra warm clothing or staying indoors. Ice based attacks can be quite deadly to him to the point of being fatal.

Background:
Job: Have worked in security before joining the First Earth Battalion
Legal Status: Just your friendly neighborhood Snake Eyes keeping the peace.
Backstory: No one knows where Andrew Marks came from and neither does he. He was simply found as a baby one day in the middle of August at the doorstep of an Orphanage in San Diego, California. When the caretakers took him in, however, they were shocked by the baby's blind and most reptilian appearance. Nevertheless, the caretakers cared for Andrew and provided for him like any other child. They fed and dressed him as well as gave aid to his blindness.

Andrew, however, haven't received the same compassion from many of his peers. Due to his appearance, and venomous fangs, he had found himself ostracized by many of the other children, left out of games and fun. Andrew didn't find himself alone, though, as in his early years, he developed a unique telepathic ability to speak to snakes. It was through this that he made a strong bond and friendship with the Orphanage' s pet snake, Rango. The caretaker took note of this, as he made friends with other snakes, but left Andrew to his own devices in his friendship with the scaly creatures, watching carefully.

Other abilities would begin to develop as he got older as well. After ten long years of pure blindness, Andrew found himself being to see through snakes while relaxing outside at a nearby park. He would begin to use them like that of seeing eye dogs, happy to finally be able to see, no matter how weak actually eyesight might be compared to normal eyesight. After some time of using a knife to protect himself from the ill intended, the young boy also found himself able to control snakes, after unintentionally setting a bunch of wild snakes on a bunch of bullies after going too far.

Eventually, around the age of eighteen, Andrew left the Orphanage and, with the usefulness of his powers, worked in security, protecting various shops with his snakes that acted like cameras. A few years later, however, mysterious people came to him and offered him the chance to put his powers to even better use by serving in the First Earth Battalion to fight against evil. Inspired by superheros from his childhood, Andrew Marks just couldn't turn down the offer.

I've added a couple of Co-OPs to the thread. If its one of you... hopefully you remember agreeing to do it :P

I am going to app a couple of team members in the next day or so, but feel it would be bad luck for me to do it first!

So... on a (kinda) unrelated note, what do you think is the most dangerous super-power on its own? Excluding anything that messes with time or mind control.

reality warping. Could accidentally undo the fabric of universe.

I say as someone who has previously done both time and space deity characters

As someone who tends to (through lack of imagination) play fairly straight characters, yes, I tend to agree that that seems obscenely dangerous... and I was about to say speedsters were dangerous!

Amusing the character you are designing was broadly centrist, what political ideology would you see as the most 'dangerous'? I ask because I am designing a pretty extreme character for the main team.

Lately it seems most of my characters have the capability of wanton destruction or harm if they let loose of their morals (or fell victim to uncontrollable factors) either through damage to property, uncontrollably murdering people, or destroying the universe

I haven't really gotten too far on the character for this though, haven't even made it to the shortlist stage yet

While trying not to meddle with you authorship, your version of Cassidy from the factions RP seemed like someone who would fit in

I thought about that, but also that she would never register with the FEB because technically she doesn't exist since she would still work for the CIA

Argh! Sorry, I am a total muppet and missed the app! That was probably the vaguest response I could have given...

He's accepted, to be sure!

I'll try to get my own chars up ASAP, along with a brief description of a couple of important NPCs. If one of you Co-OPs would like to carry an eye over them and confirm they look fair that would be super.
