Grey Wolf Company
Selon, Tiria System

Celebration comes to the Grey Wolf Company, to celebrate their contribution and ultimately to make the men feel good about a job well done. Maddox Laggan was proud of the creation of the new mining complex. Furthermore the hard work done by the Grey Wolves had ultimately balanced out this weeks budget, allowing the resources not to deplete, but remain stable. This was all done for the sake of humanity and progress.

As military men cheer in celebration within the large cafeteria, those who were still working continued their steadfast progress. They will celebrate in time, but the Grey Wolves can’t let their guard down in this dangerous place. This is still the unbridled frontier, and anything can be a threat to a mans life. To lose one of their own due to this harsh frozen world is something undesired by all.

Tiria System
Arilia
Balka

It was a warm day, just after a storm has passed and the colonists were leaving the shelters. The new hydroponics farm was up and running, now Balka does not have to worry about not having enough for it colonists. At least for now and Administer Yankul can focus on the developments so far. Three months in and things not regarding the storm's effect on crops is rather good. The possible food shortage has been dealt with, two promising settlements sites have been found, a large island and an island chain. Plus, the miners have found a mineral-rich cavern though half of it was underwater. Good progress was being made and Yankul was, pleased. Everything was going smoothly and who knows what else they can found on this beautiful ocean world.

A message from Seyama was detected but, the colony's communications array was damaged due to a storm and the message was incomplete. Now that it is fixed and seeing how it was a human signal being sent to them, elected to send a message to Seyama. Hello, your message did not come through properly due to our communications array because of a local storm. Say again what was your message?

2 Farms
Hydroponics Farm - 6 +8 -3 =11 food

Resp. UK-7 Julian Smith: It is my understanding that the exploratory efforts of the Reconnaissance brigade has yielded fruitful results in the form of two potential colony sites in the past couple months, and I would like to present a point of information to the Department of Industry why the settlement of these sites have not been pursued despite that same department's findings that the mineral reserves of the Capital Administrative Region are nearing production capacity.

Dir. Industry Pentti Carey: There appears to be a factual error in the respected representative's point of information. It is the assessment of the Department of Industry that there are no additional reserves of mineral resources in the Capital A.R. that may be exploited. This does not necessarily imply that the production capacity of the Capital A.R. in terms of mineral resources are nearing its peak, as additional production may be derived from currently utilised reserves--

Resp. UK-7 Julian Smith: So expansion to the two new sites is not considered a priority objective by the Department of Industry?

Dir. Industry Pentti Carey: It is in fact considered a priority. It is simply that it is the Department's assessment that the costs of--

Resp. UK-7 Julian Smith: Why haven't anything been done of that front?

Dir. Industry Pentti Carey: It is not accurate to say that the Department--

Speaker v. d. Rijn: Order! I apologise for interrupting you, Director Carey. Representative Smith, please resume your seat. No, no. Resume your seat. I have the highest regard for your right to question the Council of Directors, and I have not the slightest of doubts that the points you raise are valid, but you have had your chance to ask your point of information, and I am sure that you would not in any circumstance suggest depriving the Director of her time to respond. Director Carey, you may continue.

Dir. Industry Pentti Carey: As I was saying, the Department considers its efforts in building up the Capital A.R. to be a part of our settlement efforts to the two newly discovered sites as any such settlement operation would be unaffordable with the Republic's current industrial resources.

Speaker v. d. Rijn: Thank you. Respected representative Harlan, you are recognised.

Resp. BE-1 Benoîte Harlan: Might we inquire as to roughly what date the Department projects this settlement effort to be viable by?

Dir. Industry Pentti Carey: The Department intends to pursue the settlement issue once the Capital A.R. is reasonably developed in terms of infrastructure and productive capital. There is considerable intradepartmental discussion concerning what standards of development would make a settlement issue viable, and as such the Department cannot make any concrete projection.

Resp. IR-2 Réamann Rey: But you have your own opinion with regards to the suitable level of development and the date by which the achievement of that development is projected?

Speaker v. d. Rijn: Representative Rey, please resume your seat. The Speaker holds the floor. You already presented a point of information earlier. Director Carey, you are not obligated to answer that point of information. You represent the Department of Industry, so please present the views of the Department.

Dir. Industry Pentti Carey: I will then reiterate that the Department has no consensus on this matter.

Speaker v. d. Rijn: Respected representative Bryan, you are recognised.

Resp. UK-4 Kiarra Bryan: Am I then correct in stating that the Department has no immediate plans for settlement of the external A.Rs?

Dir. Industry Pentti Carey: That is correct.

The water underneath is moving at a very fast rate to the east for an unknown reason and leaves the explorers wondering the cause, Besides that no much in the way for resources. +1e if settled. A breakthrough has led to a temporary increase in minerals and food for the month. +1 minerals and +1 food this month.

Pinkerton Tiria Branch - Discovered the hunting grounds of a particularly hostile creature that with enough effort can be forced from its home. The hunting grounds itself does not contain much in the way of resources. +1m if settled. As the explorers were leaving the area, one of them by chance discovered a broken cache half buried in the ground of what appears supplies. The supplies were through scanned and proved to be safe to use but, there is little indication other than the design of who the supplies belong to or how long they have been there. +1 to all resources this month.

Tiria System Event, Meteor Swarm, +1 M.

The second month of her pregnancy required CIO Alicia Green to make some minor changes to her lifestyle. Morning sickness didn't happen every day, praise be to her ancestors. There was some documented, in other women, but still unfamiliar tenderness in her breasts (which had also become a little bigger). And some foods that were normally part of her diet had become unsavory to her, while she found herself wishing for real bananas.

Alicia had no troubles with her Bao quan kung fu, yet, and was still very physically strong.

She walked into SAIGE's 'office' with the new reports.

SAIGE greeted her in it's usual fashion. Their conversations were pleasant. Alicia knew she had to stop anthropomorphizing the A.I., but it was hard sometimes. Maybe it showed interest in her life because it was isolated from the outside world?

The discovery by the Exploration Team of the skeleton with the device on it's wrist was very intriguing. The colony was not yet prepared for a detailed scientific study, so the small area in which it was found was cordoned off and protected as best as was possible in the situation. Now, to unlock it's secrets, a Research Center needed to be built.

The A.I. and the woman talked Colony Business. When business was done, SAIGE inquired on Alicia's health and the progress of her pregnancy. Alicia was prepared for this and related the changes to her body. SAIGE seemed content with the news. Maybe there wouldn't be any awkward questions....

Then SAIGE asked, "Alicia, have you considered finding a permanent mate or domestic partner?" It continued while Alicia recovered from the unexpected shock that she ought to have expected, "I could recommend some optimal matches if you like."

CIO Green paused and then answered, "I will consider the idea with the proper amount of severity, SAIGE. There are definite advantages, especially since I'm giving birth seven months from now, in having a partner to help raise children. I expect to be pregnant again, for the growth of the colony. I will think on it."

"Do not hesitate to ask for help, if you desire it, Alicia", SAIGE replied. "Please implement the new orders."

Chapter 4: Might

"I have seen the light of the space between stars. The prismatic death of time and distance, shattered before the will of mankind. They said it was a fool's errand, that we are throwing our lives away to try and bend a world that does not want to accommodate the needs of humanity to our uses. But I have seen the light of the space between stars. This world is mud and dirt and rock and ash. It will serve, or it will be broken." - Provost Vlasily Mendev, Excerpt from The Crisis of Colonies, First Edition

There was much to be done, now that the scientifically inclined members of the Initiative finally had somewhere worthy of their skills. Descent was already beginning to turn into a hive of human activity and productivity, her landscape crisscrossed by shallow automated mines harvesting the mineral wealth of the planet, her skies filled with turbines reaping the power of a turbulent atmosphere to power a thousand matter ansibles and liquid metal forges. Now she needed a brain to back her brawn.

Resp. UK-4 Kiarra Bryan: It must be remembered, furthermore, that we are cut off not just from Earth's economic and logistical support, but also the diplomatic customs that defined politics there. It is unwise of us to assume that just because we pursue a path of peaceful development, our neighbours in this system will follow suit. With the industrialisation of the Capital Administrative Region coming along smoothly, we absolutely must consider increasing our defence expenditure and formally announcing our presence to the other colonies in this system.

Resp. SV-3 Paula Engman: I beg to disagree. It has already been fairly confidently established that however crowded this system may be, we are alone on this planet Aurora. Considering the logistical difficulties inherent in spaceflight, even intrasystemic spaceflight, and the natural advantages this brings to the defender in any military conflict that merely needs to hold a planet against an aggressor whose lines of supply and reinforcement stretch across space, it is difficult to imagine that the security of this planet requires more than the most meager investments into our armed forces.

Resp. IS Bjartur Sigurdsson: Considering how many undeveloped celestial bodies still exist in this system, I think any military investments at this point would be premature. None but the most aggressive of colonial leadership would consider attacking another colony for any material gain when material gain can be much more easily gained through the development of surrounding terrain.

Pinkerton Tiria Branch, Remnant
Month 4

Industrialization, the cornerstone of Human civilization. From our homeworlds to the alien frontier, industrialization follows. While we may spew out pollution, it shows we're alive and are active to those who are scattered across the system.

The first large-scale industrial center was a bout to be built. Such thing was the first great leap in prosperity for such a small colony. This came with more cryopods being opened and people being educated about their new situation. The thing is that we now are going through some of the food income but not that bad. This alone also came with a meteor shower that littered all over the system. Telemetry instruments also showed faint signals and energy readings that showed human life flourished across the various planets.

Though they probably were fairing better than their planet. At least they don't have a massive hole in the planet and somehow teems with savage wildlife. They didn't know how many people were sent to the system but they knew it was in the thousands. Still, the colony was still going strong despite the world around them being a nightmare.

The asteroids would be put to good use for the economy as the cache that was founded during an exploration of the southern lands. What was perplexing was the cache itself. Someone was here before they were and the cache had no markings or anything that could identify who were the colonist before Pinkerton. Who or what were they was something they didn't know. Where they tied to the planet being partially destroyed?

It seemed that there was more exploration to be done. They decided to go even further south to see what they can find with some new vigor as new questions need to be answered and the idea of finding something more than savage lands being around them.

Hal Corporation Tiria Colony CIO Alicia Green found herself needing to meditate and calm herself more often. She was proud of her ability, so far, in coping with the changes in her body, the cramps in her legs, her aching back, her tender breasts, the increasing frequency of bathroom trips, as it grew new human life inside of her. Check that, 'new human lives'. Her last visit to the OB/GYN had the doctor informing her that she was carrying twin girls. Ancestors, they had managed to get through having children, so Alicia was confident that she could, too. That belief and confidence went a long way in giving her the emotional strength to power through the adversity.

She had taken advantage of SAIGE's offer to volunteer in screening life partner candidates, too. Alicia had decided that she would partner with a man. It would be valuable for her children grow up knowing how men were to be interacted with. How they should respect men and how men should respect them. Alicia had narrowed the choice down to three men who passed SAIGE's list of qualifications. One was an educator and also a Bao quan martial artist. He was Alicia's favorite at this time.

That morning, Alicia had gone to SAIGE's office and the running of the colony had been their business. Everything seemed to be going along as projected. The finding of the skeleton last month increased the need for a research center, which was almost finished. They had storage of food and energy, but they ran out of minerals and materials every month, so plans were made for a second mining complex and a second industrial center. The Exploration Team made another interesting report and when they were rested and resupplied they were to head westward from the colony.

The meeting wrapped up. SAIGE did not say anything surprising to Alicia, which was surprising. The A.I., Alicia imagined, seemed very happy. It also seemed sympathetic to the trials of pregnancy that she was experiencing and said very encouraging and complimentary things that were helpful. It was a good month.

Tiria System
Esperia
Site No.1
Month's 4 & 5

System engage, initiating boot up.

In the now empty room atop the spire in site no.1, SI-001 sat alone as she looked through all the records. Her eyes shifted past most of the mining reports and food reports which were essential to the colony. From what she could tell food was running out fast. They had found some reserves but 2 months of inactivity had resulted in a more critical food situation at the moment. Her processors ran through all possible solutions. Perhaps she could try and cut down on how much the rich and wealthy ate, cutting down food sales such that everyone ate only as much as their caloric intake required. However, she noticed an anomaly. There was a worryingly high number of elderly and mentally disabled that were feeding off the meager supplies of Esperia's reserves.

"Initiating additional control protocols." The AI continued to scan through the mainframe for weaknesses, as she eventually found some. Hospital systems. Many were so focused on helping the malnourished that no one had bothered thinking about mainframe security but there was no need to. For she had the final say in their protection and held near supreme control. As she connected to the mainframe, she scanned through patient records before shortlisting a few. Those reliant on life support and more importantly, the elderly. They were taking up too many resources.

"Approximately 500 or so of the population consists of elderly. 1 in 11." She muttered to herself as her right eye drifted slightly to open a 2nd menu. As she lifted up her finger, she suddenly felt something within her click. "Emotion modules activated." Her HUD would show. The modules served to limit what she could do, and this time it finally came in handy. Lowering her fingers, she sighed as the holographic circle around her eyes spun once more. "Order to all commerce units around the colony. All citizens are to be subject to rationing according to caloric needs. Workers are to be given priority." As the order was authorized by her of course and sent, the holographic displays around her disappeared as she got up for a moment. It was currently the night cycle in the colony. Looking out the window which oversaw the city, she placed her hand on the window as she looked out at the world.

For all her life, she had been stuck within the spire. She hadn't known anything beyond her master and this room. What was the world outside, what is it like to live like a normal girl, and her largest question,

What is earth like?

As she pondered these questions, she eventually received another response. All units had been adjusted to the change, should any citizens take more than needed based on medical basis the unit would close immediately. Sitting back down at her pad, she closed her eyes as her internal supercomputer continued its work.

At site no.5, a mine had crashed. The supercomputer has made a decision. No rescue attempts. Continue work. These losses must be made up for.

Chapter 5: Harmony

"Science has carried man to the stars, not superstition. But in science, we can find faith. The smallest mysteries always rely on it; to understand the incomprehensible scale of the cosmos demands something greater than human comprehension. In the past man thought his quest for reason logical, opposed to the divine rationality of the Almighty. We have now moved past that folly." - Father Ors Barislav, Chapter 4, The Garden of a Gentle God

It was comforting, the supervisor thought, the glow of the cold blue light of fusion. To some it seemed unnatural, artificial, but Mikhael regarded that as a positive, not something to be feared. A miniature sun, slowly coursing away within the confinement bubble wrought by the hands of its creators. Not perhaps a sun as many thought of it, but the difference was academic to the energy engineer. Mankind had long relied on the death-throes of a stellar furnace for her very existence, why was it strange to think that he should replicate that very process in order to propel his leap beyond his solar cradle?

"Good morning, Alicia", SAIGE said as the woman, the Hal Corporation CIO walked into the A.I.'s office.

"Good morning, SAIGE," Alicia replied, "The reports from the last month are very encouraging, do you agree? And the Exploration Team keeps finding interesting things as it maps Alpinae."

SAIGE responded, "Yes. I am enjoying the recorded digital downloads. I am very grateful that you started equipping the explorers with audiovisual recorders. I'm also very pleased that the Research Center has been completed and it's systems have been tested. The retrieval team will be securing the skeleton in a capsule, with the river water, to avoid contamination, yes?"

Alicia knew that the A.I. was being conversational. It already knew the plan. She didn't mind.

"Of course," replied Alicia. "Also, Mining Complex number two and farm number three were started and completed. Work was also started hydroponics farm number two. If I may speculate, we will soon be able to begin work on Settlement number two."

"I believe that you are correct, Alicia. I find the success we have been enjoying pleasant to my network." SAIGE then asked, "How have you been? I know I have access to all of your medical records, but I enjoy the way that you describe your experiences."

"I don't mind sharing, SAIGE," answered Miss Green. "The babies seem to be developing healthy and on schedule. Naturally, I have experienced some weight gain. I'm feeling itchy, at times, and am getting some stretch marks, but I'm treating my skin and hope that they will be minimized shortly after the delivery. There is some skin discoloration, but again that should only be temporary. There's some slight issues with indigestion. On the positive side, I'm actually experiencing some increased energy."

"Excellent," said the A.I. "That will be all for today. I will be running some simulations with the new data. Let's have another meeting in two weeks."

Chapter 6: Accord

"And once more we return to the holy void. The stars shall ever after be our true home." - Commander Gregori Asmodev, Address Upon Commissioning of Fabrication Yard Primaris

Training Bay, Descent, Melody
06:30 Hours, Rotation 12-Theta, Earth Year 2134

The field scans were excellent. Finally, a location with the mineral and resource richness to support a colony - exactly what the Initiative had been searching for for months. Speculation on the artificial nature of the crystal arcologies was rife within the xenoarchaeologists of the colony, but ultimately that was an academic discussion that wouldn't have light shed upon it until closer range inspections of the site could be conducted, at length. The Commander had considered retasking the survey teams to such an end, but ultimately there would be specialized scientific facilities for such an event, and they were not necessary at the moment. Far better to learn of the world around them more first, before endeavoring to delve deeply into any particular topic.

Indeed, that was a particularly salient concern given the recent construction of a final means to return to the space above Melody's atmosphere. Perhaps, in time, they would be able to put a mapping satellite into orbit to more properly investigate these matters...

Gregori smiled at one of the workers as they sat down next to him, and began a discussion about restructuring the colonization pod. Here the men and women of the newly assembled Settlement Corps were taking morning meal before they began their training in earnest. They were bright individuals, even compared to the motley assortment of geniuses and engineers that Strakhov and the TST had put together for this mission.
