Eternal Legacy
-Alexander Grim
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! GET HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPED! Lith is back from his hiatus for god knows how long!
Okay, not even sure how many of ya'll will even remember me, or this series. Which is totally okay. It's been forever since I've had much of a presence here. So if you are like, "Who the *bleep*ing *bleep* is this *bleep*er?", I'll understand. XD
But all of that aside, I am currently working towards creating a vidya game. Buuuut I've got this issue of wanting to game instead of write when I have time off. So the worldbuilding and story writing is moving much slower than I want.
So here's what I'mma gonna do. I'm going to finish the basics of the worldbuilding in this thread, and allow you all to enter what I have created. As your characters interact with the world, it will give me the "oomph" and opportunity to think it through, and continue fleshing it out. I won't steal your stories or characters when I make the game. Rather, think of this as a means of forcing me to get off my lazy butt, and really flesh out the world that I have in my head.
I'm tired, so I'm already rambling...
Anywho, before I completely lose you all, welcome to the world of Sempiternal!
And do remember this is a WIP, and an interest thread. Soooooooo, it's obviously VERY rough. Most of the worldbuilding is written down elsewhere, but it's rather haphazard. So what I'm mostly working on is rewriting what I have so it makes sense. I expect to have things ready for a proper IC thread in the next week or two.
It happened. Humanity has fallen. Winter encompasses our world.
It has been over eight hundred years since GRIMS tore through the skybox, opening our world to the freezing vacuum of space (note: will explain atmosphere, etc. later). Ice covers the globe, frozen wastes spread as far as the eye can see. Survival is all that matters now.
Within the Eternal Valley lies the bones of mankind’s former glory. Aeternum city within its midst, a desolate reminder of better times. Around it stretches the ruins of human towns, skyscrapers, homes. All was lost, and we may never gain it back.
Humanity has moved backwards in many ways. Technology has been lost, and most equipment is merely leftover from the Aeternum years. At this point, they are just making upkeep with the equipment they’ve got, and trying not to lose it.
The world has become more hostile. Radioactive blizzards abound, where even the thickest armor will succumb to it’s assault, frying circuits and destroying mechs. And during the nights, the most dangerous of the robotic lifeforms come out, attacking all in sight. As a result, humanity has dug underground, creating small cities and towns from where they may make forays onto the surface for much needed resources and tech.
There are some who claim there is hope for the remnant. Civilizations will emerge, cities rebuilt, a home reclaimed from the apocalypse. But how will they continue when their survival hangs on the edge of a knife?
WIP
Not only does the freezing cold kill, but the blizzards are worse. Because of the many melted Nuclear Plants that dotted the landscape, radioactivity hangs in the air, whipped up into a frenzy by the harsh winds. Unless you find a safe haven, it is only a matter of time before you will succumb to it's assault. As of yet, humanity has not found a way to fully shield their mechs from the storms, although certain hostile robots seem to have found a solution.
The greatest of the robotic lifeforms on Earth are the Archangels. They are massive, AI controlled mechs that sometimes can be seen roaming the wastes. They do not tend to outright attack human settlements, and seem to pay little attention to passersby. However, if they are provoked, they will quickly wipe out any opposing force. Perhaps it is best to leave them be.
Rumors abound that these AI were created by GRIMS herself, but little has been found to substantiate this.
WIP
Personal mech suit: suit barely larger than the average human, giving them increased mobility, strength, and armor. The weakest, and most common mech.
The most valuable equipment man owns is the mech. Mechs are one of the few vehicles that are capable of traveling on the surface of the Earth and still able to adequately defend itself from the hostile robots that roam the wastes. And since the supply of mechs is limited, being an operator is quite an honor.
There are several types of mech operators. There are soldiers, adventurers, scientists, and scavengers.
Scavenging the abandoned cities and towns is the primary work of the mech scavengers. Their goal is to gather as much wealth and supplies from the abandoned cities and other factions, and give them to their faction, giving them the most money and supplies as possible.
Instead of trying to gain supplies and wealth for their faction, scientists scavenge for history, for old tech, for improvements that were lost.
Adventurers attempt to roam the entirety of the lost cities. Mapping out the whole is their primary goal, finding every nook, every cranny, every single cave and hole. Nothing is too dangerous to be reached, too far to be found out.
When a faction wants to expand, or to maintain the borders they currently hold, they send out their soldiers. Death and destruction is their sole goal, killing off any enemy of the state or religion they come from. No other operator has so much power to fight and kill as they do.
Note: Remember that "history is made by the victors", or in our case, "history is made by humans, and humans love propaganda". So any timelines you may infer from the information found here is not necessarily canon. As the story unfolds, you may learn more.
