Cassandra had had a fairly good day. She had taken a whole two days off from her job in Denver, quite tired from the daily commute and even more so at the stay at the excuse for a hotel that she had booked. While she had not expected it to be nearly as bad the reviews, it had proven so. The covers were ruffled and even dirty, the pillows hardly soft. Being frugal was new to her, mostly due to the potential of having to save for her upcoming race. But it was nothing she could not overcome with some pills. They had made her a bit groggy, hence the vacation. She had departed the room in the morning, showing up to work for a brief executive meeting to sign some paperwork before preparing for the drive.

She had found it on the Airbnb site, deciding it would make for a fine retreat. But going alone, as was the typical occurrence for her, left her with few options of how to stay awake. It was these moments that she longed for a husband, or a friend, or a child. It had been a decision that she had not, focusing instead on her career. But similarly, she often wondered if it was not her decision at all. She glanced at herself in the mirror next to her car door, keeping her gaze and overseeing her features. Maybe she had said it was her career as an excuse...to excuse her lack of beauty. She had never had serious advances, something she tried to not let bother her. In moments like these though, she could hardly stop herself.

She entered the coffee shop, waiting in line and reviewing her options. She settled on a dark coffee, with a mango smoothie to go alongside it to simply supplement the dark taste she disliked. Upon her time to order, she spoke bluntly, once again noticing her face in the reflective and clear screen that divided her from the pastries on display. She pushed away her thoughts, placing her phone on the counter and rummaging through her purse to find some bills. Paying with credit was the typical thing she did but with potential big campaign purchases expected to go on there, she had thought it better to not straddle the plastic with lots of items. The coffee was handed to her as she sipped it, moving towards the counter with napkins.

Her smoothie was called out and she took it, paying no mind to anything else. Hopping back in her car, she began the drive towards the outskirts of the Colorado metropolis. She rolled down her windows and began to play the radio, though soon switched to her own BlueTooth as the radio signals weakened. It was a bright sunny day as she put on sunglasses, focused on the road. But it was hardly an easy thing to do...concentrating when you are by yourself. She naturally, her mind began to wander. It took her back to the Libertarian Convention, the first time she entered politics and the mess that it had been. She had tried to push life into the party, all to have it collapse on her. It had been costly.

Already, memories flooded her about the discovery of bribery and political antics unlike anything seen before. It has dismayed her, realizing that unlike the Progressives, there was no political future in the Libertarians. It was Republican or nothing. But with money, she had thought anything possible. She felt that anything was possible. Switching had been the first step, then the campaign announcement. Still, she felt that she was rushing, that she was pushing for the impossible. Her email to the White House had gone unanswered, and it pained her to even think about it. It probably was not even read. Who cared about her? Would voters even care about her?

Then it hit her. Was that why she had entered politics? To get someone to care about her? Her parents had died the year before...was this her mourning? Was this her grief manifesting? The questions seemed to fill her mind, confusing her more than revealing truths about her. Deep down, she already felt like the answers were there, simply they had hidden from her to not distract her from the next move she had to make in the moment. Now, though, these thoughts were in the moment. She reached for the coffee, spilling the smoothie across the passenger seat. She grunted in anger, grabbing some napkins to try to clean the mess. Her eyes turned back to the road for a brief moment, before returning to her cleaning job.

She turned back to the road, before deciding that her mess was cleaned up enough. Reaching blindly, she then began to search for her phone, unsure of where it was. Within a couple moments of music blaring and no phone, she looked to the middle area between her seat and the passengers, making sure she had her phone. She did not. The panic set in, for, despite the complex emotions she occulted, she was a fairly simple woman without a phone password for she often forgot it. Her worry set in quickly, as she looked in the back seat, hoping she was wrong. But before she could craft a plan, the car had drifted across the lines and within mere seconds, veered off.

A truck had been passing along, much of the same size as her suburban. But with her lack of awareness, her speed had increased dramatically and both cars crashed into the trees. The glass has shattered, stabbing the elderly couple driving the truck while Cassandra's position looking backward sent her head tumbling into the radio controls with great force. Both sets of drivers were unconscious and the road was one less used, so there was little movement as the older model truck began to show smoke and flames. It was not the way she intended for her to meet her match, but as her eyes fluttered opened mere moments before the explosion, she allowed a single tear and a final smile to overtake her face.

Far away from the incident that would not be discovered by the town's residents until the fire attracted passersby, the coffee shop barista had placed the phone in the lost and found area. But some more mischievous members of the cleanup crew had taken an interest in the latest and shiny iPhone, toying with it and taking just a couple seconds to find that it had no password. Upon tapping into the social media of the account, they soon found out who the phone belonged to. A couple quick searches had led them to know more about Cassandra Arumb than the average person, so armed with this knowledge and an unlocked Twitter account, they had their boyish fun fooling around. It was mere fun to them, lacking the valuable foresight of what had just befallen the victim of their prank.

The security guards finally made it to Stansky, who was standing in the middle of the scrum. They were gently, yet assertively pulling him towards the exit. Joh followed along with them co-cooperatively. He made a few remarks as he was pulled out from the room,

"Healthcare is a right. Medicare for All is what we need, free and quality healthcare for everyone."

Patricia Waterfield Rally, Albany, New York

Image

"Have you seen the New York Republican debate? Talk about crazy. On one hand you have Lenny Lotto, an unstable and unsavory character who has been endorsed by people like Alois Kramer, Fredrick Williams and Dianna Noble. It is a scary reality that he could possibly be the Republican nominee for the party, and it shows truly how out of touch their party has become. If Mr. Lotto really believes the people of New York want him as a candidate, he has is fooling himself. We are a state of acceptance and diversity, not one of decisiveness and hate. A vote for me is a vote to fight these people all day everyday. Have you seen me on twitter lately? I've had to hold back the Republican attack hounds because they understand that I am a threat to their party here in New York. I represent a message unparalleled to those of the current line up of Republican and Democratic candidates that they are afraid. They are afraid of us. Go out to the ballot on primary day and show that the people's voice is powerful in rebuking the alt-right. As for MarliO, she is a victim of her own party. She doesn't belong to the Republican Party and I believe she would make a stronger impact by running as an independent. The Republican Party has continually slut-shamed her, she needs to understand that she cannot make any difference within the Republican Party. Yes, the same Republican Party that continues the male domination of public life. The one that rallies against true feminist voices.

However, the Republican Party isn't the only blockade for progress in New York and the United States. It is the Democratic Party, which poses as a left-wing party, but is in favour of the same old. The people of New York don't want the same old, they want the same new. Rod Johnson, who seems like he will be the Democratic candidate for Senate here, is posing in this left-wing party to be left-wing. I have zero doubt that he is in fact pushing the same agenda and the same policies of the Republican Party but without the sexism and racism. Rod was endorsed by our Republican Governor and many Republican figureheads, and I know why. Rod Johnson will be their man in the Senate, he will follow the will of the Republican Party because the Republican Party is helping to elect a faux liberal. It should be an immediate disqualifier if you are endorsed by all of those Republicans. It shows your true colours. New York needs left-wing leadership, I will bring that to New York. I will win this Senate race if you choose me. There will be no room for defeat in the Progressive. After what happened in the Connecticut Senate Race, we cannot allow another Republican or Democrat to enter the Senate. Progressive leadership now! Sane leadership now!

Here in Albany there are other events happening. There is currently the Healthcare meeting, where our progressive leaders are proving that they are strong, powerful and willing to fight austerity coming from the Republican Party. Salute to you, and keep up the good work. On the issue of healthcare, I support a strengthening of the affordable care act, increasing healthcare coverage across the entire United States. I want to work towards lowering insurances costs and medical costs for the people of New York to ensure that our most disadvantaged can live without going bankrupt. On the issue of social security, I want to keep it safe and away from the hands of the Republican Party. There's not doubt that the irresponsible tax cuts for the rich that the Republican candidates are proposing that they'll want to cut Medicare and social security. No way I'm letting that happen. Save our Medicare and social security. I will fight for the safety of this programs, so that there is safety for those citizens who fall beneath the cracks. Advancing a clear, progressive agenda in New York is my main priority. So consider me in the primary, I have the experience to take on the job. I have worked for solar panel companies, trying to move our economy off dirty coals. I'm an author on ecological issues, I served as the Mayor of Saratoga Springs and now I am in one of the most important roles in Americas largest ecological organisation. We need direction to bring progressive values to the forefront of New York. Thank you."

Speaker Wayy weighed her options.

"I would need more details, but a 2% to 5% increase could work. What do you think?"

She pointed to the Progressive, unable to recall his name at the moment.

"As a percentage of current rates or the percentage points we would be raising the rates? There must be a clear connotation, but I think that if it helps the common people of New York, then it is worth fighting for."

"It seems like an uphill battle," Arlen commented.

"My final question is if I were to join the Progressive Party what kind of resources would I have to help me in this election." Arlen paused. "Because I have been promised very few resources by the Democrats."

Having seen tonight's results, I will address Los Angeles first, followed by Connecticut.

Reginaldo Alphonsey
@RACalifornia

Baker Springtime's mayoral candidacy was impressive. The grassroots campaign that was run almost defeated one of California's political giants. It is clear the American people want change, not the establishmentarian status quo that serves only the highest strata of this nation.

Reginaldo Alphonsey
@RACalifornia

I hope Baker will run again, perhaps for a position other than Mayor as we approach the midterms.

Reginaldo Alphonsey
@RACalifornia

In Connecticut, Singh's defeat disappointed me greatly. It's no secret that Solidarity and myself put a lot of effort into this race. While we greatly outperformed the corrupt Democratic machine, our movement still lost this fight.

Reginaldo Alphonsey
@RACalifornia

I hope the Reed administration and Senator-Elect Roberts will see that almost 2/3 of Nutmeggers soundly rejected their vision for our country, and that they will adjust accordingly. I went into this race with the desire of sending a message to the Republican Cabal that runs our country, and I believe that message was sent."

Reginaldo Alphonsey
@RACalifornia

"Having said that, Solidarity will refocus on the grassroots. It is clear that the Progressive Party and the United States needs more Ella Enchanteds and Baker Springtimes."

"We can provide substantial resources." Ellen says.

"Our infrastructure as you know is not as strong in Virginia as in the northeast or northwest. I would not lure you under false pretenses. However I intend to begin to change that with a substantial investment in the state that I would like to also be an investment in your campaign. I also of course would provide my personal endorsement and can promise significant investment with our strength in advertisement."

Congressman Glen Anderson
@AndersonPA17

Congratulations to Senator-Elect Carter Roberts of Connecticut and all the victors in this series of elections. Together regardless of party we can build a better nation, I look forward to working with you all.

Congressman Jason Samara
@JSam8

Singh ran a damn fine campaign in CT, he’s a good man and has a good future ahead of him. Scotty Marlowe is going to be an excellent mayor. But the biggest takeaway from this is that the split on the left has enabled the right to achieve victories representing less than half of the constituents of their state. I make no excuses for the faults of the Democrats in recent years, it will takes years to get away from Winston, but if we don’t come together we don’t make any progress.

To call Mayor Scotty part of the establishment only serving the rich and upper class is a gross mischaracterization. It only further shows the hypocrisy of the so-called "Progressive" Senator Alphonsey who in this very same year endorsed and propped up Winston cronies in the form of Ambassador Singh. Glad to see the true colors of the Senator's partisanship.

"Hello, Ms. Wreath here from CNN, Governor, what are thoughts on legalizing marijuana and using its regulation and taxes to help supplement the costs of the RLSA bill? As Governor Mondale of Ohio has proposed?"

"It's time for the people blocking this bill to get out of the way. This bill is a fair bipartisan compromise. You can ask the reasonable Democrats that voted for it about that. These people who are blocking the bill don't have any plan of their own. Obstruction is their only goal. Ask them when they're going to make a real plan, and then tell them to stopping blocking the one that is ready to pass," Hotchkiss answered the CNN reporter.

Catching her breath, she turned to the second reporter. "Philosophical discussions won't mean anything if this bill doesn't pass. The legislature doesn't have a 'Medicare for All' bill, it has this bill. It should pass it."
