"About how do you go about that, finding out what kind of people you want to be your constituency, and that you want to appeal to? What do you do to get those definitions?" Hammitch questioned.

![]() ![]() Athena Kirkland @Kirkland As Governor of New York, I will make sure that my constituents have the most affordable and quality healthcare across the nation. We will expand Medicaid (lower premiums) and lower prescription drugs such as insulin. We will as well offer free contraceptives to all women over the age of 16. Healthcare is a human right, and so are reproductive rights. GOP and Reed, I am coming for YOU. The Future is Female. #KirklandForGovernor ![]() RETWEETS FAVORITE 66,581102,096 ![]() |

Ebenezer waved goodbye to the girls and stood up to greet Emberton. "It is a great pleasure to make your acquaintance as well, Representative, yes. Please, take a seat and let us discuss what you came here for, indeed." His voice was half bellowing like he was in the middle of a sermon, louder than a normal conversational tone.

Emberton lowered his voice and shifted his body language to indicate a more conciliatory tone "I'll just get right to it, i'm working on a major bill right now that is going to uplift Appalachia, i'm talking tens of billions of dollars for economic development. Communities stuck in economic stagnation and poverty for decades can finally get lifted out, and the communities hit hardest by the Dudley Tax will have a pathway out of their troubles. I was hoping you could use your influence to pressure other legislators to support the measure, something of this size... its all hands on deck."

"Well Representative, that sounds like a noble goal, yes it does, indeed. But I am confused, I am not sure, not understanding what worth I might bring, bring with me. Appalachia, all across those mountains, it does not seem to be my land, no, it does not, a fine place I am sure, but not a place where I am heard, very little there. This state in which we are, there is much more to it than simply that, much more indeed."

Emberton pulls out a small notebook and puts on his reading glasses, "The counties of Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Davie, Forsyth, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, McDowell, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Stokes, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin, and Yancey" Anderrson closes the book "Those are the counties in North Carolina that would be eligible for aid under this bill, you ran for a state-wide office a short time ago. These counties are fairly red but should you play a key role in advocating for this bill it will go a long way towards making you a place you are heard much more. And even if these weren't your people, it would take a lot more than Appalachian Legislators to get it through Congress, we need people who aren't going to directly benefit to support it. "

Ebeneezer had to blink when he thought he saw a spirit reach around behind Emberton to close his book and he crossed himself.
"I lost that election as you know Representative, yes I did, but I believe it gave me some clarity, yes, clarity indeed. My decision was rash, yes it was, as I chose to pursue earthly power rather than follow the path the Almighty had laid out for me, oh yes I did, I did indeed and I must seek penitence. I chose to reach too far for a task not appointed for me. I do not seek votes in those counties any longer, for I must dedicate myself to leadership more close to home as I am called, yes."

Their only other option is a disgraced former Representative, I think you'll be fine either way @PatriciaWaterfieldReal. Hope to see you in Congress when the time comes.

"Perhaps I could Representative, yes perhaps I could indeed, but a man is limited in this world, limited by time, time that goes on and passes no matter what we do, always and always. There are many people that need me Representative, and I must work long and hard to help, yes I must, and I do not know, how can I know that I am truly doing the work that is needed if I spend that time on your bill Representative, on your bill for Appalachia, that does not help my flock here at home?"
