Eric broke from the steady demeanor he had held throughout the meeting to look genuinely embarassed, letting a few awkward seconds hang before unsuccessfully trying to clear it with a cough, not quite sure how to return the conversation back to its tracks. He coughed a second time.
"I didn't quite-well, I wasn't really looking to ask that, so much." Another awkward pause. "I was more asking about how you look at these sorts of things ethically and morally, those kinds of personal lines, not talking about the government doing what it does like we were earlier."
It was Anderson turn to look embarrassed, though he laughed at himself a bit, "My mistake, honestly I get the question a lot on the road when some people find out about my stance on the issue."
Anderson took a breath "Its difficult for me at times, on one hand I believe legal protections are important... If a service-member dies their spouse should be able to collect their benefits. On another hand I know full well how hard it is to find the right person to spend your life with, so who am I to dictate who someone loves? The Bible isn't in favor of it obviously but the Bible has a number of laws that by any modern understanding are abhorrent... I am not a biblical scholar, I don't have that answer but I do know that I am taught to treat people with love and respect so thats what I am doing to the best of my ability."
