Senator Villanueva de Peña's Office, Deming, New Mexico

If the locking-in was meant to unnerve Aubrey, it was at least partially successful, though not enough to break the surface into a noticeable reaction. The situation remained an uncertain one, the entire 'operation' running on minimal information, but she felt secure enough that she could navigate the meeting through whatever turns it took. The most probable worst-case outcome would likely be just being left where they had started, and thus, she assumed there was a bit of leeway if she needed it.

It appeared to fall to her to broach the topic, but the First Lady continued to shy around the edges of it, less direct than usual, and not well accustomed to the style.

"Looks like an efficient setup. No need for bells and whistles," she observed.

Jason Samara 24 Hour Livestream 6am- 12am

Image

“Alright” a polite looking hispanic woman comes on the camera as the livestream starts “Hello my name is Stephanie Lynch, I am an aide with the Samara for Senate Campaign and I will be your first host for today’s livestream. It is 6am and we are here at the Samara household in beautiful Boston, to pick up the Congressman” Stephanie knocks on the door and it is answered shortly after by Samara “Hey i’d invite you in but the girls are still asleep” he exits wearing a dress shirt but no suit holding a reusable water bottle “Let’s get moving”

Jason and Stephanie walk out into a 2014 Chevrolet Volt, a bit small for their needs but American made and eco-friendly. Another aide was driving the car while Samara and Stephanie were in the back seat. The three of them shot the breeze for 20 minutes discussing the Congressional Baseball game and a few personal matters not related to politics, such as the driver coming back from a tough bout of the flu and other water cooler talk. 20 minutes into the drive the talk shifted to the business of the day. The camera had been mounted as to show Stephanie and Jason in the backseat without her having to hold it constantly, the driver could not see or be distracted by it.

“So we are in Newton today” Stephanie said looking at the schedule on her smartphone

“Newton, Four Corners again?” Samara replied

“No mostly Upper Falls, we are going to Newton-Wellesley to talk healthcare too”

“Do we have time to swing by Four Corners first? I want to visit the branch and check in on the operation.”

“Alright, we can probably swing 20 minutes.”

Samara took a moment to address the camera for the first time “So Newton is one of our bigger branches, that’s because its more a group of villages that one city. There is no one single city center, and we want to make sure we put equal effort into all of them.”

Stephanie and Jason continued to talk about progress in Newton, discussing the number of volunteers and the rising number of small donations to the campaign as well as the distribution of campaign material. After the full 45 minute drive they arrived at the Samara campaign branch set up at the Four Corners.

Dismounting the camera Stephanie followed the Congressman into the branch, he was greeted sleepily by a handful of overnight staff and more warmly by the day shift heading in. Samara took some time to speak with the staff and volunteers asking about any overnight developments in Four Corners as well as inquiring about the general moral of the unit. He made sure to be gracious and thank them all for their hard work.

Around 8am Samara attended a meeting with a few key staffers where they discussed the latest polling data and messaging. A lot of it was boring and numbers focused discussing what issues were resounding most with the electorate and which needed polishing. They never discussed changing policy position or anything like that, just different pitches that could be made to the people of the state.

Running late on their plans for the day Samara and Stephanie moved out on foot. They visited a few local shops speaking to voters and introducing himself to the people. They eventually made their way to Newton Upper Falls and met with members of the city council just before an open door pitch meeting by the Northland Investment Corporation regarding the largest multi-use development they were planning. It was long and technical, the plans were for a 1.4 million square foot redevelopment. The company was based in Newton and the plans were extensive and vital to the community. Afterwards Samara spoke to the camera “Northland has done a really good job so far meeting with residents and officials and addressing their concerns. I personally really want to hear more about how its going to affect traffic.”

Samara spent a few more minutes with others in the meeting discussing the proposal before finally bidding his farewell.

Until noon Samara took the opportunity to have lunch with his team at a local cafe, fielding a few questions from patrons, shaking hands and taking selfies but mainly focused on enjoying a meal with his team and talk about non political topics such as the Red Sox.

Handwritten Note from Glen Anderson to Congressman Susanna Harrington

An Anderson intern delivered a small folded note to the secretary of Congresswoman Susan Harrington.

To Congresswoman Susanna Harrington,

It has been far too long since we have spoken, I would be delighted to host you for dinner this week. Please let me know if you would be available.

Sincerely,

Congressman Glen Anderson
Grove City College Healthcare Lecture

Image

This was not technically a campaign stop for Anderson, but was important for his campaign nevertheless. He needed to secure himself with the conservative base of the party and the evangelicals, additionally he had a pet project of engaging and promoting young college republicans, especially in College. As such it was decided to give a speech at a small christian liberal arts college near his Pittsburgh stomping grounds, Grove City College.

His healthcare plan was central to his campaign and Stansky was an excellent punching bag to prove conservative credentials. He made contact with Grove City and arranged a guest lecture.

“The Fallacy of Single Payer Healthcare and the Path Forward to Reform” with guest speaker Glen Anderson

Anderson got a hold of several chapters of the Young Republicans of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Federation of College Republicans and invited them to the lecture, getting them to push it. He emphasized this was not a campaign event, but privately Anderson knew it didn’t matter whether or not it was a formal event or an endorsement by the organizations. Anderson would get exposure with Republican activists.

“Good morning, thank you all for coming and thank you to Grove City College for hosting this.”

“We have all heard the rhetoric about single payer, about medicare for all, about the moral necessity to prove healthcare for everyone. We have a lot of noise, a lot of claims, so I find it important to take some time to step back and actually look at the numbers, the actual concrete facts and seperate it from speculation and hearsay.”

“Single payer is an approach that eliminate all or nearly all existing healthcare coverage and replaces them with a one size fits all government run plan. Those arguing in favor of it claim it will build off an already existing and incredibly successful system, make everyone financially better off and give everyone access to high quality care. None of this is accurate.”

“Lets start at the beginning, building off of Medicare.”

“Medicare for all would abolish Medicare as we know it. This new government run plan would displace 58 millions seniors and disabled Americans off their current plan. Now Medicare as it stands includes a program that allows private options which integrates services, Medicare for All would eliminate this. No Private Insurance Option.”

“Advocates like Mayor Joh Stansky claim that the average american family would be better off financially without writing checks to insurance companies. Instead taxing the rich will pay for the program which will be more than offset by the elimination of private insurance costs.”

“Well first lets talk about the cost, something Stansky tries to avoid. Estimates from both sides of the aisle have put the cost of Medicare for All over 10 year 24.7 and 32 trillion dollars. Lets give Joh the benefit of the doubt and assume its $24 trillion.”

“Now some may point to Medicare’s administrative costs. Employer sponsored insurance reports an average of about 20% in administrative costs compared to a 5% administrative cost from medicare. But what that fails to account for is the costs on a per capita basis, Medicare's claims are higher because a population of the elderly and disabled have much higher claims costs than a young and healthy population. When you look at the actual dollar amount per person, Medicare’s administrative cost is $500 per beneficiary and private plans average at $450.”

“If Joh got his way, taxed all income over $1 million at a rate of 100%, just took it all... he would get a little over $600 billion dollars. That’s it. So if you are going to pay for Medicare for All you need to tax more than millionaires and the 1%.

“To pay for it you would have to increase payroll AND income taxes by 20%. For everyone not just the top 1% or the top 5%. Plus you’d need lesser increases on capital gains, marginal tax rates, the estate tax and eliminate a bunch of tax expenditures. Emory University, not known for conservative talking points, has estimated that 71% of working households would pay more on average for healthcare through taxes than they do today privately. 85% of households currently on Medicare would pay more than they do today.”

“But who cares about the cost? Healthcare is a right, everyone deserves equal access to care and if accomplishes that goal its worth the cost. Well not so fast.”

“Coverage might be universal but care will not be. Take the British and Canadian healthcare systems, held as the kind of healthcare advocates of single payer want. But what kind of quality is it?”

“At the end of last year Canada had over a million procedures waitlisted, in England alone over 84 thousand operations were canceled last year from non-clinical reasons, almost 4 thousand were considered urgent and in time of crisis such as flu season tens of thousands of surgeries are often canceled. In the United States only 6% of patients wait 2 months or more to see a specialist. In Canada that number is 39% and in the UK its 19%.”

“Among developed countries, the United States has the highest breast cancer screening rate and the lowest 30 day mortality rate for infection or stroke. Across the board the quality of our nations actual care is second to none.

“But maybe its just an American trait to excel? I truly believe in the excellence of our nation and our people, we are second to none but even we are human and susceptible to ineffective bureaucracy. We have to look no further than the Veterans Administration to see single payer healthcare at work. 238,000 veterans have died waiting for care from a single payer system, people who could have seen private doctors got waitlisted and neglected by a system that just doesn’t work.”

“Doctors too suffer under single payer, the British Medical Journal is reporting a record number of general practitioners leaving the practice and fewer people than ever entering because of lack of autonomy, administrative challenges and unmanageable workloads. Many doctors in Britain are reporting being required to work in ‘third world conditions’ and are increasingly unable to treat patients.”

“Now I will not deny the necessity of Healthcare reform, the ACA was a travesty but the issue it addressed, the need for more healthcare, better healthcare was and is a real need. 71% of Americans say healthcare is in crisis. The solution however is not more government control.”

“Rich or Poor, Left or Right, Young or Old, healthcare affects you. We have the greatest medical technology in the world, the best people, researchers and doctors, we have so much going for us and yet we continually find ourselves in political gridlock. Our objectives must be, Patient-centered, consumer driven reform, based on choice that spurs innovation in care.”

“The government should not be picking winners and losers in healthcare. We need individuals and patients in the driver seat. In every industry where companies compete choices and innovation increase, prices and barriers to access come down. Healthcare needs a similar approach, that will not have immediately but even small steps can have huge impacts.”

“Lets let consumers pick from a wide array of options, direct primary care, short term plans, catastrophic coverage, or cadillac coverage. Everyone getting government dollars for healthcare gets to choose how to use those dollars instead of a government bureaucrat. The ACA had a structure that gave insurance companies control over subsidies which allowed them to raise prices. Giving the money directly to consumers will allow them to pick the quality private coverage of their choice.”

“Before it was devolved to the states the ACA had federal spending increases dollar for dollar with premium hikes and unlimited Medicaid spending. The path forward needs to do away with regulation dictating the products consumers can buy, and we need to ensure that insurers do not charge unfairly high premiums to individuals by throwing them all into a single risk pool.”

“Instead we should use a portion of our funds to establish high risk pools, reinsurance or other measures that are geared to protect those with burdensome medical costs instead of saddling the healthy with ridiculous premiums. Taking that measure is estimated by the independent Center for Health and the Economy to drop premiums by 15 to 32 percent.”

“At the same time we need to protect those in the high risk pools, subsidizing them so they are not abandoned by private insurance. Overall this would save Americans money, creating competition and fostering innovation will help force medical providers to lower costs which will save taxpayer dollars while providing more care.”

“Changes to our healthcare system come with high stakes, impacting millions of Americans. Making changes that avoid adverse consequences when making changes to that system require a great deal of legislative consideration, with many factors being kept in balance. It is vital that those on the frontline of our medical community have opportunity for input in the changes we make in our system, but it is equally important that our reforms put patients first.”

“Thank you for your time. I look forward to your questions.”

"The government shouldn't be picking winners in losers in the sense of the insurance industry like the ACA did. We need to accept that certain people face higher barriers to healthcare than others through no fault of their own, we need to help consumers based on need and empower them to make choices. The government isn't picking winners and losers, we are empowering consumers to make the choice. Good question, thank you."

"So let me answer the second question first... If elected as governor I have pledged to not raise taxes. The money we save through reform will be more than enough to pay for the pool."

"To how it works the term 'high risk pool' could also be called a risk transfer pool. We will on a case by case basis compare individual experience of those with preexisting conditions compared to the pooled experience of the market We are looking at how Maine tackled its healthcare challenges in 2011, they managed to cut premiums in half while protecting pre-existing conditions."

"I'll try to keep it as simple as possible, our pool will be a hybrid between a reinsurance program and a high-risk pool, it will help cover claims for individuals with high medical claims and will target individuals based on specific conditions. HOWEVER it will not remove individuals with pre-existing conditions out of the market or charge them higher premiums."

"The pools will be targeted and focused on the neediest, high cost and low income beneficiaries with pre-existing conditions. It will ensure that individuals premiums and out of pocket expenses will not exceed a certain portion of their income and the subsidy will be narrowly tailored. This will encourage insurers to insure the otherwise uninsurable, and the subsidies will be structured in a way to encourage competition to reduce cost and expand benefits."

"No, but I understand how it sounded that way. A better way to say it is that the subsidy will be need based, Bill Gates would not get the subsidy from the high risk pool."

"Those in the high risk pool would have a subsidy from state to help cover the more extensive medical costs. But as with any subsidy we need to be careful that insurers don't raise prices unnecessarily to take advantage of the subsidy so we will be comparing prices diligently and encouraging competitive plans."

Glen chuckles a bit "I will commit to the full repeal of Winstoncare. Now I do indeed believe the government should provide a safety net for healthcare, thats what my healthcare plan aims to accomplish. Winstoncare however is a disaster, and I believe it would be better just to rip the whole thing out and start over."

Jason Samara 24 Hour Livestream 12am- 6pm

After lunch Samara’s team held a meeting web meeting where they were updated on the latest digital strategies for the campaign. Peter Bradley led the digital team, his office was decorated with banners saying “MAKE DIGITAL GREAT AGAIN”, it was a large team with copywriters, web developers and data scientists.

“Bradley is vital to the team” Samara said to the livestream as the telemeeting began “We check in with him daily, and he is the only person allowed to tweet on my twitter account besides myself.” The meeting began and Bradley began updating the team, he had a bad lisp but was able to relay information quickly, the meeting was mostly about the most recent digital fundraising efforts. It became apparent that the majority of donations for the campaign came via facebook and email. They also shared prototypes of a baseball hat that would be part of a giveaway for donors who gave $25 or more.

Also discussed in the meeting was the “Lookalike strategy” essentially names of Samara supporters were uploaded into a database and found on facebook, then others who had similar activity were specifically targeted online to garner their support, relying on 127 different datapoints, a number they hoped to grow to 1,000 by the time of the election. The digital team additionally was generating specifically tailored content including webpages targeted to different groups the meeting ending with Bradley proudly announcing they had just produced their one thousandth piece of digital content.

At 2pm Samara left the meeting to attend an event hosted by the Freedom for All Massachusetts.

“Right now the campaign is working to support the inclusion of a law regarding adding gender identity to the list of prohibited grounds for discrimination” Samara explained to the livestream, “the Massachusetts House and Senate are debating it right now, I think it will pass sometime in early July, but the fight is far from over”

Samara arrived at the rally shaking hands and speaking with transgender individuals voicing his support for the measure. He also explained he was livestreaming and asked if anyone would be willing to share their story, a half dozen transgender individuals and 2 parents of transgender kids took the opportunity to speak to the livestream audience about their personal stories. For the next hour and a half Samara focused on the cause of Freedom for Massachusetts making sure to deflect attention from himself and his campaign though if he was asked about his personal positions he held regarding the LGBTQ+ community but always made sure to turn back the conversation to the importance aiding organizations like Freedom for Massachusetts.

After the event Samara went to residential neighborhoods in Upper Falls, knocking on doors and speaking with individuals and families. Going door to door, introducing himself “Hello im Jason Samara and I’m running for Senate” The livestream showed that often Samara would come to empty homes, to people who politely declined to speak with him and to those who greeted him with hostility. But often enough people were willing to hear what he had to say, Samara would take a minute or two to tell his story but would then spend most of the time asking the people questions about their lives, their finances, dreams and fears, he would ask about their children and education, the difficult of healthcare and most importantly “what’s the biggest issue in your daily lives and how can I help?”

After and hour or two of this behavior a crowd gathered realizing Samara was there or at least that a commotion was happening. Samara spoke to the small crowd, again answering questions and taking pictures with fans in between going door to door. Finally at around 6pm Samara and his team bid the neighborhood farewell and went off to have dinner.

Psychotic Dictatorship

Monroeville, Pennsylvania

It had been a while since Kramer had been to Monroeville, the last time was when he had endorsed Anderson and here he was again today, back in what he considered home from home on the campaign trail. After his team had booked a suitable venue, Kramer arrived a few days later.

Kramer sipped some water off stage as he prepared to make his entrance, going over the speech he was about to make. Soon after, it was time.

Kramer walked onto the stage, noticing that some of those pithing the crowd had on their person the campaign signs for his presidential campaign, seeing those signs as he went to the stage made Kramer more determined he had represented people like these, people who to him hadn't had anyone before, for almost 3 decades. After a couple of moments upon going onto the stage Kramer began.

"Good afternoon to you Monroeville, it feels so great to be back in this great city of yours. The response that I have had since I have arrived in this city had been tremendous and I would like to thank each and everyone of you for that. I realise that the the last time I came here, I was endorsing Representative Anderson for the Republican primaries for the Gubernatorial election next year, I would like to apologise for that error, Representative Anderson proceeded to drop my endorsement for his campaign after I announced my candidacy for the 2020 United States Presidential Election, a campaign that is running to defend American borders from the vast tides of illegal immigrants flooding the shores of this great nation and in order to defend American enterprise and the American people from the vast destruction thrust upon communities like these due to the decisions made by unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington as shown through such sovereignty slashing accords as the Paris Climate Change Agreement, an agreement that damages the United States to the benefit of countries that seek to tarnish American values across the world such as communist China."

"Now we must ask ourselves this question, does Representative Anderson actually care about the plight of the working American? Or is it that he instead wants their votes, so he can instead replace the unelected and slothful administration of Governor Brantley so the President can force his agenda down the throats of the states on a constant basis? Through his disowning of my endorsement and his referring to me as 'psychotic' on his twitter, something that is and should rightfully be considered unbecoming of such an elected office as a United States Congressman, I think we have the answer, my fellow Americans."

"I have heard such things from the Representative as that I am a disgrace to my state, the Senate and the United States and that I should resign, and I would just like to address that. Whilst it would be understandable for the Representative to say that to someone of his similar, rather fresh level, I find it rather ironic that the good Representative chooses to say that to someone such as me, someone who has spent the last 52 years serving his country of which 24 of those years were sent serving this great nation in the Central Intelligence Agency, a further 18 years representing the interests of the people of Alabama's 4th Congressional District and a further 9 years representing the great people of Alabama in the United States Senate, but don't fear, my dear Americans, it will be 12 years representing my state in the Senate as I am not going anywhere. Shame on you, Representative Anderson, shame on you for supporting the Presidents job killing agenda over the platform of defending American borders, values and enterprise, shame on you for abandoning such good people as these who want desperately a voice to represent them in Harrisburg and shame on you Representative for attempting to tell someone who has spent more time in public service then you have that they should stab the people who rely on them to have their intreats and issues heard." Kramer said as the crowd started cheering.

"But this event isn't a normal rally, I have two announcements to make. My first is that as of today a new PAC that brings a breath of fresh air into this great country, a PAC that will support candidates that support you. That PAC is the American Protection PAC, a PAC that will support candidates that believe in protecting American families from the tidal wave of illegal immigration and the crime epidemic that this nation is currently engulfed in."

"My second announcement is that we already have the first American Protection PAC candidate with us here today, a man who serves as a wonderful example of the youthful enthusiasm that many of the nations youth show towards this area land and also a wonderful example of the families legal, hardworking immigrants, who are amongst the best and brightest of their countries produce when they travel, from all across the globe to settle here and integrate fully with American values, and a man who I am proud to endorse. Ladies and Gentleman, I would like to welcome Representative Areen Ramalan." Kramer concluded as he stepped away from the microphone.

Office of Senator Ashe
Washington, DC

It was a meeting Anderson had wanted for a long time. Glen always had a fondness for North Carolina, with his family frequently vacationing in the Outer Banks as he was growing up. He had followed Ashe's career closely and his strong credentials with conservatives were well know, a potential endorsement by him could work wonders for smothering the candidacy of Ramalan in its cradle.

He arrives 5 minutes early to the meeting greeting the secretary and waiting patiently for the Senator to receive him.

The secretary smiled at Anderson when he arrived and she notified Senator Ashe of the man's arrival. A few minutes passed before the door to the Senator's office opened, and Ashe smiled as he greeted the other man, "Mr. Anderson, welcome to DC." Ashe extended his hand for a handshake.

Office of Senator Ashe
Washington, D.C.
Governor Chalmers

Governor Chalmers was up in Washington, d.c. mainly to meet up with some old friends from congress, and to speak at a small National Governors Association event up in DC. He was also here to speak to Senator Ashe, a good friend of his that he met at some NC Republican Party event. He was also going to meet Glen Anderson, a man who he was leaning towards endorsing in the Pennsylvania Governors Race. Chalmers saw Anderson as a man who could do as good of a job as governor then he could as a congressman. Compared to his lousy opponent, he could do great things.

Chalmers had walked up to the Secretaries desk, who told him that Ashe and Anderson was waiting for him in the room. When he walked in, the Senator was introducing himself to Anderson. “Noah, it is a pleasure to see you again after all these years.” Chalmers said as he walked up to him. “And it is a pleasure to finally meet you, Congressman Anderson, I’ve heard some good things about you.” Chalmers said, greeting himself to Anderson, while giving a strong handshake.

It is depressing to see Rep. Ramalan accepting the endorsement of Sen. Kramer, the man who enabled and then proceeded to pay bail for Dianna Noble after her Dillon Massacre.

Anderson laughed a bit "I live here pretty much half the time Senator, i usually sleep on the couch in my office." He returned a firm handshake and entered the room "Thank you for seeing me"

After Chalmers walked in behind him Anderson turned and introduced himself "Its a pleasure to meet you Governor, you've done some great workin your state." Anderson shook Ashe's hand and took a position in the room where he wasnt between the two North Carolinians

Senator Ashe smiled as the Governor entered the office, "Barry, it's been a while, always great to see you." Ashe took a seat in his office chair, "Please, makes yourselves comfortable," he gestured at the chairs in front of his desk and the couch along one side of the office, opening them to any seat they'd like.

Ashe listened as Anderson told Chalmers that he's been doing great work in North Carolina, very flattering. He smiled, "So Glen, I hear you're running for Governor of Pennsylvania, of course. Miss my Governor days," Ashe glanced at Barry, "But it's great to see the state is in great hands," He glances back to Glen, "And I'm doing my work representing the state here. Anyway, how is the campaign going, Glen?"
