THE PHILADELPHIA BLITZ DAY 2

Image

Anderson was mainly relying on survey information from Pew in 2016, which asked Philadelphia residents what their top concern was, 44% of residents said ‘public safety’, the next highest were education at 20% and jobs at 14%. The urgency of public safety concerns was especially major as in 2015 Pew asked the same question, 32% said education was their top concern and 23% said public safety. The massive uptake was opening for Anderson to win votes as a law and order candidate who was also committed to economic opportunity.

DAY 2 STOP #1
Angora, SouthWest Philadelphia

In Angora Anderson met with the families of victims of violence in the streets, poor families in blighted neighborhoods. He spoke with families stuck in a cycle of poverty and violence, held their hands and hugged them while they cried speaking of loved ones killed on the streets of Philadelphia. Many of the older residents spoke of closing factories and shifts in industry, other recounted personal experiences, job loss, health crisis, death of loved ones, that put them in a poor economic situation and a downward spiral. Many people spoke of being raised poor or living in poor communities as children, many dropped out of high school or gotten off track and Anderson asked them about earning a GED and if they hadn’t what could be done to make the process easier.

DAY 2 STOP #2
Eastwick, SouthWest Philadelphia

Anderson took great care to talk at length about supporting programs like TANF while reforming them so they were more effective and directed towards lifting people out of poverty. Mostly however he spoke about rising crime and heightened police activity. He laid out a plan that decriminalize minor drug offenses like marijuana possession allowing police to go after violent criminals and the actual trigger-pullers in the city. He wanted to commit state resources in conjunction with the city to specifically target and pinpoint repeat violent offenders, locking them up for good. This tough on violent crime stance would be paired with a commitment to rehabilitation for non-violent criminals and providing education and opportunity for young people so they never begin a life of crime in the first place.

DAY 2 STOP #3
Point Breeze, South Philadelphia

In Point Breeze Anderson spent most of his time talking to Laquanda, a single mother of 2 who was working full time while pursuing an accounting degree, she was a bright spot in a sea of poverty. He asked her how to he as governor could help, which programs had the most impact on her and which needed improvement. Consistently as he met people he spoke about expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, which 186,000 Philadelphians used to reduce their liabilities. He also talked about protecting Medicaid and taking actions to make healthcare cheaper and more accessible.

South Africa is the symbol of what happens when the best of intentions go bad. Ever since the institution of the mob rule of the ANC, things be getting worse than the old system. Crime rates in South Africa be shooting through the roof, the Black life expectancy has been in the decline, and an upcoming genocide against whites is on the horizon. Things were objective better for the Blacks under apartheid, though I be no supporter of no apartheid.

Nigeria's economy is plummeting down the drain you damn fool, it can't even prevent their women from getting kidnapped. When you look at the Asian nations like Singapore, Malaysia, and China(who all be poorer than Nigeria when it was founded), you see even the best black countries are inferior to even middling Asian ones.

Hello, everyone! This is my first tweet, if you're wondering.

He felt a bit happy with himself as he sat in his office, writing that tweet. Maybe he would get a little bit more popularity, and would crawl out of the hole of obscurity he dug. At least, he hoped so.

He left his office, Room 2312 of the Rayburn House Office Building, and wandered outside in order to see if anyone would want to talk. After he left the building, he decided to pay a visit to the Capitol, since there wasn't much to do at the RHOB. He opened the door, and entered the House Gallery, sitting down at a chair.

House of Representatives, the Gallery

Congressman Greg Morton was rummaging through his pocket, looking for a crumpled-up grocery list to restock the fridge at the tiny apartment in which he lived while in Washington, when he heard someone else come in.

Turning around, he greeted the man- he looked like a Congressman. “Hello, Congressman. Enjoying the view?”

"Yes. It's wonderful today. What a shame it's going to be unbearably hot in a week or so." While he tried to suppress it, sometimes his Russian accent slipped through. This time it did, especially the part at "hot in a week or so".

Greg reaches out a hand for a handshake. As his spoke, a hint of the lilt of old Otago, in New Zealand, slipped through. “She’ll be fine- I’ll have myself some hokey pokey to cool off. I’m Representative Greg Morton, pleased to meet you.”

Morton furrowed his brow in concern. "You were at the World Trade Center during 9/11?"

He took a sharp but deep breath, staying silent for a full minute.

"My God.... I can't imagine what these next few days will be like for you, but... stay strong."

"Almost died too. I was supposed to be on the 107th floor of the North Tower. Flight 11 destroyed the staircases above the 92nd floor. The reason I wasn't there was because I was stuck in traffic. Same with the guy I was supposed to be with. He was an activist last time I checked."

He paused too. Once he responded, he responded with, "Stay strong too."

Not sure how to continue, Morton decided to change the subject with a reply to his own question.

"My favorite place to visit in my district is Mendocino National Forest. It's hard to access -there's no paved road leading into the forest- but I'll be damned if it isn't the most gorgeous landscape I've ever seen. And Lake Pillsbury is a great place for boating- I take the Tramper out there in the summer."

"August? August is far too late. I'd start now, actually- seeing as the House won't be back in session until the 11th. Depends on how large your district is, though- mine is large enough to make travel take a few days, and some communities are a bit out of the way."
