Amaras settled into his seat after the guests had taken theirs, and the boys after, Linda Sue quickly fetching one final item from the kitchen before sitting down herself. The centrepiece of the table was a long and thick meatloaf, surrounded and supplemented by thin cuts of fried potatoes, a bowl of steaming green beans, and a basket of rolls. None of the Amaras's touched the food, however, as Peter held out his hands to either side, one taken by Huck and one by his wife, who did the same, Huck offered his hand to Liliana, and Mike, taking his mother's hand in his right, lifted his small left up to Cao.

Sydney and Liliana also held hands with those who were closest to them, closing their eyes and bowing their heads.

Peter, about to begin, instead smiled to his son.

"Huck, why don't you lead us tonight?"

Excited at the small honor, Huck firmed up his grip and closed his eyes, running through the prayer in a high-pitched youthful voice making an attempt at solemnity.

"God is great and God is good, and we thank Him for our food. By His hand we all are fed, give us Lord our daily bread. Amen."

Tyler, Texas
Michael Smith

Image

It's been a while since Michael had announced his campaign during a rather unipressive party "convention". Having not done much, if anything, since then he decided to head out for his first campaign event. This decision has in part been influenced by the active campaigning in a number of states above the Mason-Dixon line, which Smith found unremarkable or bland at best and outrageous at worst. With an inspiration and need to take action Michael put his best suit on and headed out to what was described as one of America's most conservative cities. He was joined by his wife Mary and his son Michael Jr. In adittion, Michael had his newly appointed campaign manager travel to the city ahead of Michael, to try to attract the attention of the locals with the help of a small group of volunteers who handed out leaflets designed in what was probably the most generic way possible. Either way Michael was happy to get started.

The trip itself took a while, having to travel half way across the state was fairly exhausting, but Michael was in high spirits nonetheless. He swiftly put on his cowboy hat as he got out of the car and took from his son a bunch of props he might use. As he got closer to the group of TNP activists he noticed that the group had grown larger, albeit by little. Regardless, he was happy of the work these young and passionate people have done.

Michael walked up to his campaign manager and handed him the props, now only holding a megaphone. After a very short introduction by one of the volunteers he stepped up on a soapbox that was set up before his arrival.

"Howdy, y'all!" he started "As some of you may already know my name is Michael Smith and I'm running for the Governor of our great nation!"

His dedication and passion resulted in a timid applause that was mostly mixed with the general confusion at his use of the word 'nation'.

"Some of you may ask yourselves - what does this guy want from us? And to that I can only respond with a question of my own - what can I do for you? Right now our beautiful nation - yes nation, I see your confused faces - is under the oppression of the federal government! These people are absolutely clueless about our needs and the best interest of Texas, so why should we care about them?!"

This was a very basic, populist line, which despite it simplicity went over well with the crowd. Some people have even clapped.

"Washington, D.C. is nothing more but a swamp of corruption and stupidity! You have these so-called Progressives trying to turn the United States, which they see Texas as part of, into a socialist nation! Do we want socialism? Do we want food lines? Do we want starvation and slavery?" Every one of his questions was met with a resounding 'NO!' as the crowd grew larger person by person. Most of the people were probably curious passers by who soon leave, but Michael grew more confident as interest grew. "That's right - NO! These people want to take away our rights, enslave our doctors and teachers and work common folk to death! They want to destroy Texas! What do we say to that?" the crowd once again replied with an energetic 'NO!' "Exactly! Especially when they act like they run the place! They're a disgrace!" the increasing in size crowd clapped and cheered at his words.

"And Democrats are no better! Just look at New Jersey! Their leading communist voice, Joh Stansky, narrowly lost to a rapist! Is this the party of freedom? Is this the party of morality?" the crowd once again responded 'NO!' "They are morally bankrupt crooks! The proud state of Virginia is currently witnessing socialist Clearwater campaign for the the 'Medicare for all', an idea started by the anti-semitic Comrade Joh! And what do we say to Comrade Joh and his cronies?" 'NO!' the crowd replied once more "No to socialsm! No to anti-semitism! Yes to Texas!" Crowd clapped happily.

"And speaking of Texas, let me say something about our great nation - yes, NATION! For far too long have we been told what to do! The socialists, crooks and the swamp of Washington must all be done with! We must also get rid of the same crooks here, in our nation! Nation enslaved, but not killed! But not defeated! No matter how hard our Governor tries to finish us all off, we must resist! We must take back Texas from the incompetent Governor Kiser!" The crowd cheered.

"But let's be honest folks..." Michael changed his attitude going from passionate and enraged to calm and sarcastic "... that's not much of a challenge now, is it? Afterall, when was the last time he left his mansion?" Someone in the crowd shouted 'Yeah!' as the crowd chuckled. "Where in the world is Brandon Kiser?" The crowd laughed again. "That sounds like a good name for a show. Maybe I should drop this whole candidacy thing?" The crowd jokefully replied 'No...' in a fakely dissapointed manner at his remark. "Okay, okay. I won't, I promise."

"But what's the solution to all this mess? It's a strong leader, who's not afraid to run Texas for Texans! And that is why I'm running! That is why I created the Texan National Party! It's time for change in Texas! It's time for freedom! But most importantly it's time for independence!" The crowd cheered as Michael stepped off the soapbox. Smith quickly glanced at a young volunteer who was livestreaming the entire event. Michael didn't know how many people were watching it live on his personal social media accounts, but he made sure that the outreach would be as big as possible with the stream being shared on the TNP and Texas Daily accounts.

Despite the fact that his speech ended, Michael wasn't quite done yet. He made sure to personally hand out leaflets to the people who joined the crowd thorughout his speech and managed to convince some people to donate to his campaign.

Sydney and Liliana admired the budding faith of the young boy- and the diligence of his father in training him up in the way he should go.

He said a simple prayer- but an earnest one nonetheless.

They were reminded of learning to pray the rosary as children, and how they too, made their own earnest prayers.

There's nothing more ironic than a man claiming to represent the people of our country while refusing to allow all Americans (including our struggling working class) the right to free and quality healthcare. Your bank account shouldn't determine your physical health. Simple as that.

As Madame Stevenson entered the sitting room, she would undoubtedly be confronted by the many paintings which depicted Arthurian legend- they covered every square inch of the room, except for the windows (and ceiling). @BeamMeUpScotty

Rep. Samara, do not forget your first duty in this Senate race: discharging your Congressional duties by representing your district in the House. Yet let us hold Rep. Stevenson to the same standard. She should seek to introduce more bills and cosponsor others to represent her electorate, for her current record is currently lacking.

@BeamMeUpScotty

Doing one's job in the Congress means both being there which Samara must improve on, and proposing legislation, something Stevenson should be deeply reminded of. There should be no double standard here, both districts deserve the best representation that they voted for, that much is clear.

To, Mo Clearwater
From, Joh Stansky

Dear Clearwater,

Your remarks in the recent Virginian Democratic Debate has had me worried. In a question about me, you said that I have 'shown my true colors' in being a 'bigot'. Apart from being offended by what you said, it puts in real jeopardy the relationship between you and the Medicare for All PAC, which I was planning to run a television ad in your favor. I would like clarification if what you said is true or if you believe it? And does that mean our relationship (including the Medicare for All PAC) will be severed?

Kindly, Joh Stansky.

"Well well well.... turning left to legislation, eh? I have taken the freedom of looking the AFSA over and it is well-written and well thought-out. Well done. What do you believe are the greatest challenges facing our great Bay State- the greatest one to date?!"

This last question he spoke in a (very) slightly loud but non-shouting voice.

“I did not mean to imply your legislation is to the left, quite the opposite. A mere change of phrase, as it were. The recession and immigration.... major issues to grapple with to be sure. I will start with the first matter: what do you believe the government’s role should be in bringing this malaise to an end? Hmm?”

He cocked his head to the right slowly while asking this one word question, making a low humming noise as he did so and focusing his gaze directly on Stevenson’s face.

Isley residence, Palo Alto (July 3rd, 2017)

Frank Isley had a grim expression as he heard back from his chief political advisor, who had flown out to Sacramento to get a sense of the mood for pension reform.

The results were not promising.

With a recession on, many state legislators in the majority party had put funding concerns on the back burner. Public employee unions were pushing hard to keep pensions the way they were -and even to increase benefits- by raising fears of civil servants reduced to poverty.

With the Legislature firmly behind Ramirez, and Ramirez not taking action, pensions would stay as they were.

Isley, sighing in defeat, left a message for Sydney.

“This is Frank. We pushed way too early: SEIU 1000 and the CTA are building a war chest cause their people at the AG’s office gave them the inside scoop. I can’t match their spending by myself, and no one else wants to take on pension reform if the Governor’s not behind it. What I’m trying to say is... I’m going to have to pull my support for your other proposition. Look, I’ll invest in races for the Senate and Assembly- you just focus on getting elected. Between the two of us, if we succeed- then there can be pension reform. But not before that.

Soon after that, the remaining proposition was withdrawn from consideration and from the initiative process.

Terranea Resort, Rancho Palo Verdes, California (July 3rd, 2017)

Image

Kate Mulvane headed out to the site a day before the fundraiser was to kick off.

Some of the attendees from the Thousand Oaks fundraiser had wanted to hold their own event on the Peninsula, and she was happy to oblige.

Independence Day was going to be Conservative California's biggest fundraiser yet- and with attendees from RPV, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, and Palo Verdes Estates opening up their wallets- total contributions were expected to be well above $1 million.

From what she had heard, there was a general sense among the party that there was a decent chance at success in the midterms- if there was a strong enough candidate in the marquee races to drive out voters to the polls.

With no candidate for Senate so far (and the chance of winning slim), all eyes were on the Governor's race- the fact that not one, but two candidates jumped-started their campaigns so early meant donors would be watching closely, calculating who would be best to support.

Jason Samara Radio Interview
Adrianna Malone Show, Boston Herald Radio

Image

The recent accusations against Samara had been frustrating to say the least. Yes he spent less time in Massachusetts but there was 0 actual data to show he had been neglecting his position. By any measurable metric, bills written, co-sponsorship, votes missed, he had not neglected his position and in fact was one of Congress’s more prolific and active members. It pissed Samara off to no end and he wanted to strike back but being aggressive and attacking others was not in his nature.

In order to keep up the momentum of his campaign while keeping his commitment to washington, he decided to go on a radio program. That way he could get his message out to thousands of people but do the interview from D.C.. Adrianna Malone an African American woman in her mid 40s and a commentator known for Center Left views that appealed to moderates in the state.

Malone: Welcome back to the Adrianna Malone Show, today we are joined by Congressman and Candidate for Senate to replace Senator Breckenridge, Jason Samara… how are you doing today congressman?

Samara: I am well Adrianna, thank you for asking. How about yourself?

Malone: I am great… Congressman lets talk about the elephant in the room. Recently Congresswoman and candidate for the republican nomination for Senate, Congresswoman Stevenson held a rally on your district and called you out let’s play a clip.

Stevenson: That's Jason Samara. It's time to call this out. He's the Congressman that you elected right here but he's completely done with that gig, he doesn't care about it anymore. Now he's decided that he wants a promotion and he wants that Senate seat so he's given up on being your Representative. I barely ever see him in Congress anymore. Since he announced he's been screwing you guys over royally waltzing out of his responsibilities to puff himself up campaigning. You haven't gotten the voice you deserve and that you're entitled to by your vote, because it's too busy giving speeches on the other side of the state about how great he is or the ones where he wants to evict a hundred thousand Jews from their homes because they're Israeli which has Stansky blushing with pride.

Malone: Thoughts?

Samara: Well firstly, i’m not just giving speeches on the other side of the state. Since I announced, I have had multiple rally’s and events in Boston and Brockton which are in my district… I have been involved in community service my entire life, and I have always worked fast and took on multiple things at one... before I was 30, I founded a job training program, a college preparatory program and a tenants rights organization. Since I was elected to congress in 2012, not just this past year, I traveled constantly back and forth from Washington DC to my district. And the people of my district know that, I meet with the people I represent in person constantly and I travel constantly, I have gone to the middle east 6 times since I was elected to oversee our reconstruction efforts and support our troops, i’m sorry but just because I have a travel heavy schedule doesn’t mean I’m abandoning my district.

Malone: Do you feel like you should resign to run?

Samara: If I thought I couldn’t do both to my full ability I would resign to run. But I am by every available metric one of the most prolific members of congress, I have authored and, co-sponsored more bills than all but a handful of people, and these are bills that are bi-partisan and tackle major issues like healthcare, opioids and DACA. I haven’t missed a single vote, Stevenson claims that she barely sees me in Congress anymore… well thats for a few reasons. Firstly she only got to Congress a few months ago, secondly we have never worked together on a bill or socialized with one another, its just a disingenuous accusation. If Stevenson thought you should resign to run, she would resign to run.

Malone: You released a statement firing back at Stevenson, and Katharine Hobbes responded to it ‘Samara's passive agressive "statement" (written in <5 minutes) clearly shows Stevenson got under his skin and is onto something. He talks about how he works hard and tries to not miss a single vote - sounds good right? Except that literally in the next paragraph he says he'll cut down the number of his campaign events. So which one is it Jason?’ Why are you cutting down on campaign events if the accusations are untrue?

Samara: For right now I’m toning them down but that may change. I don’t want the people who put me here to ever doubt my commitment to them. I will be speaking with people in my district over the next few days, if they feel neglected I will keep them toned down, If not I will go back to the previous schedule. I’m doing it out of an abundance of caution.

Malone: I have another clip I want to play real quick.

Stevenson: You all can see that's what he's planning to do. I 100% guarantee that if Jason Samara is elected Senator he is going to leave us to go campaign in Ohio or Florida or North Carolina to become President and leave our state behind. 100% guarantee, and you can quote me on that. We already have the proof that he'll leave his responsibilities for his own gain right now.

Samara laughs a bit

Malone: Do you intend to run for President in 2020 or later?

Samara: In the 1880s general William Tecumseh Sherman was asked about being a candidate for President, he replied "If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve."

“I have absolutely no intention of running for President in 2020, I have no desire to be on a ticket or serve in a cabinet, no desire to serve in the executive in any capacity at this time. If there is a groundswell of public support and a draft Samara movement, which I don’t believe will happen, I will not accept the draft. I have every intention of supporting the democratic candidate in 2020, whoever they may be.”

Malone: And after 2020? 2024? 2028?

Samara: Never say never, but I want my girls to be in college before I even remotely consider the possibility.

Malone: So you will serve your entire term as Senator should you be elected?

Samara: Barring some family emergency yes I will serve my entire term.

Malone: Secretary Schlang has called the accusations of laziness ‘ straight up racist BS no different from the anti-Semitic crap that's on the rise.’ People of color have struggled to fight ugly stereotypes for a long time, one of them being CP time or colored people time which insinuates african americans are lazy. Do you feel the comments were racist?

Samara: I’m not going to speculate what is in anyone’s heart… I have no reason to believe that Representative Stevenson was intentionally invoking ugly racial stereotypes. We need to be more conscious about race in this country, have frank and honest conversations about it. But I won’t accuse someone of something I don’t have substance for.

Malone: Lets talk about the anti-semitic aspect of the tweet, you voted against the Countering Racism, Eugenics, and Sexism in Terminations bill when many democrats walked out. Why is that?

Samara: Racism, eugenics and sexism have no place in our society and just fought against that I would have voted in favor… the vote was a trap and I don’t blame democrats for walking out on it. The truth is that the bill required an extremely low burden of proof to stop a woman from terminating a pregnancy. Essentially if a doctor, nurse, family member or anyone else simply accused the woman of having an abortion for that reason the hospital couldn’t perform the procedure, it would get tied up in court for god knows how long by which time a state’s abortion restrictions might kick in. I stayed because I don’t miss votes, I especially don’t miss them because they are hard. The people of my district sent me to Congress to defend a woman’s right to choose and i’m going to do that.

Malone: You have been accused of some that your policy regarding Israel is anti-semitic, you called for ending settlements in contested territory and potentially moving thousands. How do you respond?

Samara: I have now and always have condemned Hamas as a terrorist organization, we cannot have a peaceful solution while one side actively uses violence against civilians. In Israel, Palestinians, Arabs, have more rights there then they do in the rest of the middle east, they actively serve in public positions, serve in their legislature. It is better to be an Arab in Israel than Jewish in Palestine. Israel is a vital ally that we must stand by from a strategic outlook and a moral outlook. However that does not mean that every action Israel has taken is beyond reproach, beyond criticism. My suggestion is that Israel sets a border with Palestine and they respect it, if they can do that without moving anyone that’s great. But if they need to move some small settlements they should do so, I don’t want to relocated hundreds of thousands of people.

Malone: Congressman are you working on any bills currently?

Samara: My colleagues and I are just finishing up an Equality in Housing bill which amends the Fair Housing Act to include discrimination based on gender, sex and sexual orientation. We will be submitting it to the house soon for consideration.

Malone: Thats all the time we have today, thank you Congressman.

Samara: My pleasure.

I was critiqued by members of the GOP for being lazy and not legislating enough, despite my career being a testimony to advancing civil rights and spearheading many of the liberal and democratic reforms instituted in this great country. Yet their false claims went on.

But their words fell onto silent ears and they will do so again with the allegations being cast on Rep. Samara. Enough with this race-based slander by Representative Kristen Stevenson and her radical allies in the Senate and House.

She introduced JUST one bill to the House, championing it as her landmark success when it fails to be more than a few sentences, when it has fails to be passed, when it fails to have even been brought to a vote before the House.

You would think Rep. Samara should be behind from all the campaigning he does, yet he is not. But Representative Kristen Stevenson barely has campaigned and barely has a legislative record, more of a legislative footnote actually. So what exactly is she doing?

Get working Representative Kristen Stevenson! Your district would like to see their interests represented not ignored. Let those without sin or blemish cast the first stone, a biblical reference Rep. Stevenson should understand before leveling such slander!
