With the Johnson Family largely propping up the campaign of Dan Schmidt, and the man himself failing to give any indication that he seriously wishes to further pursue the office he was once actively running for, I must wholly withdraw my endorsement of said candidate.

She thought for a moment, leaving a silent moment between the two before responding.

"Foreign, the removal of troops. There needed to have been more prepared, more of a response team and network left in the area before we packed up and left. And I would like to know if our allies and key partners in the region like Turkey even knew this would happen. Domestically, the failure to fill important cabinet positions. How can this Administration function properly without key roles filled? It is worrisome, especially from a foreigner's viewpoint."

"Again harsh but fair. Do you have any questions for me?"

She responded without much pause.

“Harsh but fair, a concise way that I would describe the approach I would bring to the United Nations. But as per questions, two. First, what is the role of the Vice President in the current administration? Is he fairly involved or more on his own function? Second, what are this administration’s goals specifically related to the UN?”

She leaned back to hear his response.

Taylor Cox
Fujiokamachi Tatewaki, Tochigi, Tochigi Prefecture
Japan

Lucy was at a train station planning on heading home, carrying her own bike alongside, waiting for the train to arrive. It wasn't until she heard the shouts of someone familiar behind her. Trying to see who it was, she put a hand over her mouth, as she saw Taylor Cox, looking disheveled, dragging behind me his luggage. He looked like he just recently showered, but he was actually soaking due to the rain. "Lucy, dear god. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I know I probably was a jerk and what not back at the hotel, but I literally forgive you. Please!" Cox begged Lucy, where she was speechless. "Mr. Cox. I know I was naive, but this wasn't really your fault. Please understand." "Lucy. I know that isn't your real name, but I came to literally apologize for acting like a dick to you, but I just want to make it up. This is my second to last day and I want to use this time for us to forgive each other." Cox said.

The train arrived, before Lucy said anything. Then, she made a request to Cox. "I want you to come to my home. I need you to meet my father." Lucy said. "Your father. I know he's going to kill me, but I might as well come." Cox said, as they entered the train. Lucy gave Cox directions on which stations to get off from and where to go. As they rode in the trains, Cox saw the cityscape go smaller and smaller. Eventually, he found himself in the rural land of the Tochigi Prefecture. "You live here? In the middle of nowhere?" Cox asked. "I usually take the train to the city for school. I get my dinner in the city and head home." Lucy said. After they exited the last train, Cox looked around. There was farmland and plains around him. Several red and white powerlines were nearby, but in the distance. As they waited down the dirt road, Cox asked her where her home was. She pointed to the house in front of them.

(OOC: Mood Music)

Cox and Lucy arrived at the front door, where Lucy got out her house key. Entering the house, Cox took a brief look around. The inside of the house was more traditional, than what he imagined. The living room had about one couch to look at a small Parasonic, the dining room had pillows instead of chairs, and if Cox checked the bedrooms, one of them had the beds on the floor. Cox took off his wet shoes, as Lucy called for her father. Emerging from the kitchen, Cox was shocked to recognize Lucy's father. He was the same man he played pool with in that arcade. Naturally, an argument emerged between the three.

After 5 minutes later, all three of them were sitting at the dining room, where Cox was rubbing his heart-shaped sunglasses, where Lucy was twirling a piece of hair, while the father was drinking a can of tea in silence. "So..can I be the first one to talk about the elephant in the room?" Cox asked, where the father nodded. "This is no one's main fault. We might as well be all to blame. I'm extremely sorry for hitting your daughter, sir. And I'm sorry that I was too naive enough for you to make advantages on me, despite me being technically married." "I'm just interested in older men. I hope you don't mind." Lucy said, where she whispered it in Japanese to her father. "Mr. Cox? Could you come outside for a moment?" the father asked in his best English voice possible.

Under a patio, overlooking the yard, the two men shared a beer as they discussed what has been happening. "So I gave her a carton of apple juice to help with the head wound I caused, despite it being most likely to vanish after a couple of days." Cox stated. "I couldn't have any time to monitor her. My job isnt' a pretty one. I'm away most of the time due to being a salary man. After my wife left, she left my daughter, also. I had to make sure the bills were being paid."
"Mr..."
"Tanaka."
"Tanaka. Ok. And your daughter.."
"Maya. Though, you can call her Lucy."
"Right. Mr. Tanaka. I'm from America and we visit this joint, because the lifestyles here are completely different from home. You guys have the cleanest streets and what not. You people are also surprising hospitable, where I had to resist the urge to tip. Just this morning, I ordered room service and had myself some eggs benedict with some salad. The young woman pouring the dressing for me accidentally let a small speck hit the tablecloth and she looked like she was having a heart attack. I told her it was no worries, but after I finished my breakfast, she knocked on the door to give me a new table with the same breakfast on it. Yet, I only managed to convince her to let me have the new jug of dressing. (OOC Fun Fact: The Eggs Benedict story was based on true events).

"We tend to see ourselves as having the new type of lifestyle of every other country in this world. No surprise."
"I mean, I'm sorry for not following possibly several important rules in Japan. Because for all I know, some random famous idiot is going to get himself in hot water, just for online views or tweets while he's here."
"I don't think no one would be foolish enough to annoy people here, just because we tend to be stoic."
"Tanaka.. Look. I need to tell you about why I was attracted to Lucy, even though she was attracted to be for...romantic reasons that I was not aware of."
"Because you prefer women young?"
"Well, my wife is younger than me, but...well.... Mr. Tanaka, I know you're probably an excellent father, but back in America, there was this one girl that I feel responsible for a mistake that I didn't make. That I could have helped her. And you're going to call the cops on me and have them ship me to California in the box. But let me, at least, explain."

Taking a deep breath and blinking once, Cox proceeded to explain the story of Penelope Edwards, which Cox only kept the important details and not the ones about his involvement in rather incriminating situations.

Lucy saw her father enter the house, where he had the expression of just witnessing someone about to set fire to some children, only for them to set fire on themselves instead. Cox looked concerned, where he noticed Tanaka glimpsing the telephone nearby. "You're going to leave tomorrow, right?" Tanaka asked to which Cox nodded. "Make that promise! Because I can't allow a damned sinner like you to plague my home!" Tanaka said, where Lucy looked confused. Cox figured Tanaka would explain it to his own daughter, though she would be in confused tears if she did.

Later that night, Cox was laying in the living room, while Lucy was kneeling nearby, talking with Cox. "Cox? Is it true you're heading home tomorrow?" "Lucy, I originally planned for 12 days, didn't I? I figured it was fitting, seeing how much shit I gotten myself into that I'm prepared for all the shit that I have to face back home."
"You sure?"
"Your father would kick me out and probably sic the authorities on me to be banned in Japan, if I ran into him by accident."
"Why did you love me back in Tokyo?"
"Not as a girlfriend. As a...Someone that I wanted to help. If I explained what happened, you think I'm sick."
"Cox, you sure I will be good without you?"
"Lucy, don't say that. You go to school, right?"
"Yes."
"Look, you're possibly antisocial and I want you to, at least, befriend a boy. If they're cruel, ignore them. If one is interested in you, talk a bit. I can still be of use when I'm gone. Maybe some advice." Cox said. After Lucy returned to her bedroom, Cox looked up from the couch as he let his eyes close to some real sleep.

April 12th, 2017

Going Home

Cox woke up, where he let Mr. Tanaka give him a plate of toast. He ate in silence, as he didn't mention a single word about today. He was already dressed, so he was ready to leave until he said so. Lucy woke up, where she knew what was going to happen. After about an hour, Mr. Tanaka went to the telephone. Cox didn't know what he was saying, but the tone of his voice didn't sound like he was trying to call the cops. After the phone call, Tanaka told Cox that he had a cab come to pick him up. As Cox went outside, where he saw the morning sun. Which was rare, since it had been mostly rainy weather in Japan. As he was waiting for the cab with his luggage, Lucy ran outside where she was holding something in her hand. "Cox. I know you need to go, but could you take this?" Lucy held out a pink MP3 player, which she wanted to give as a gift to Cox. Cox took the MP3 player, surprised where he decided to give Lucy something else in return. "Here." Cox said, giving Lucy his heart-shaped sunglasses. "When you don't know if something is bad advice, remember me and you immediately know." Cox said, where both of them smiled and hugged each other. "I'm so sad to see you go."
"I know, Lucy. Things will be fine for you." Cox said to cheer her up, before he waved goodbye. As he returned around briefly, Tanaka was with Lucy where it looked like they were starting to talk about something. Possibly connecting with one another.

Back at the airport, Cox boarded his plane, where was a crummy United Airlines. He wasn't concerned. Getting out the MP3 player, he leaned down and let himself listen to a single song that was already on the player. A song called Plastic Love. Even though, he was in a land of cherry blossoms and culture that was mythical. He didn't find deliverance. He did found some ways to get his demons off his chest, though he might make more. However, in the end, he was ready. He was brave. He was not afraid.

He was officially coming back home.

As a military man myself, a father with two children in uniform, I can say that I do not trust Sadan Singh with Veterans Affairs, his record in the Winston admin has been that of incompetence, mismanagement, and corruption. If he did what he did in the military he would have been court martialed, thusly i cannot in good faith trust him to give our veterans a fair shot.

A federal jobs guarantee is something I can get behind. Too many veterans do their service and then get left out in the cold when they come back. I'd be glad to work with a Senator Singh on a plan to fix that.

Coe Memorial Park, Torrington, Connecticut
Image

Reginaldo Alphonsey and Solidarity had organized a fairly large rally in Torrington. Litchfield County, despite being a rural swing county, had a large number of well-educated progressive-minded individuals. The county was essentially an extension of the liberal Berkshires. Preparations were made to bring former industrial workers, teachers, citizens of noted liberal towns like Salisbury, Sharon, and Kent, and progressives from across the county. The goal was to mobilize the large rural progressive vote to undercut Roberts's margins in that part of the state, and continue to build voter enthusiasm. The park was filled to capacity with attendees.

Local politicians gave speeches in support of the Progressive agenda and in support of Singh. The big ticket name, Alphonsey, was welcomed in by the liberal First Selectman of Washington, Connecticut. Alphonsey walked up to the gazebo that was serving as a stage, and took the microphone.

"Torrington is a powerful city. Not just because of its rich history as a center of abolition, an opponent of hate and slavery, a welcomer of immigrants, but as a proud center of manufacturing as well. Torrington was the heart of Litchfield County, the center of Connecticut West of the River.

It was here that John Brown was born and shaped. It was here that anti-Catholic xenophobia was put to rest. It was here that brass was produced so that the evils of fascism and Nazism could be stricken from the Earth.

Look at where we are now in American politics. As the Republican majority in the Senate ticks through its agenda of dismantling our nation's safety net, putting more guns on the street as a spit in the face of families in places like Newtown, nominating racists to our courts, and ending the rights of our LGBT community, Torrington and Litchfield County have a chance to change the course of history once again.

Connecticut may choose to continue with and endorse the Senate Republican agenda by voting for Carter Roberts. A man with no healthcare or social safety net policies other than the status quo. A man who refused to stand up against the NRA and pro-gun legislation. A man who has never worked a day in his life, instead endorsing the same trickle down theories that robbed Torrington's status as a proud manufacturing city as an "economist."

Does anyone here really think Carter Roberts is going to oppose the Republican line? Or President Reed?"

There was a lot of "no" and booing from the audience.

"That's right. He won't. He's a freshman senator. And he may try and strike an 'aw shucks' independent tone, but he fundamentally endorses the same Republican corporate dogma as the likes of Peter Amaras. So Connecticut may send in this man to the Senate, if you wish.

Or, Connecticut may choose to rebuke Washington. Connecticut may choose to send a man who built a socially conscious business with his bare hands, acknowledging that he could not have done it without the very safety net his opponent wants to dismantle. Connecticut may choose to send a man who supports gun control, supports organized labor, and has a real health care plan to protect our children. Connecticut can and must choose to send in Sadan Singh.

Indeed, this is a referendum on the Republican agenda. A vote for Sadan Singh is a vote against Minuteman, against POMA, against austerity, against racist judges. A vote for Sadan Singh is a vote in favor of the Progressive agenda. It is a vote in favor of universal healthcare, universal higher education, ending WAC, taking on exploitative corporations like WALMART, and ending the revolving door of money and greed at the highest levels of power.

So get out and vote. Register your neighbors and drive them if you have to. Make a difference. If you don't like the way Washington is heading with the Republican supermajority, then send a message. If you stand with our LGBT community, send a message. If you stand with women, send a message. If you stand against the NRA, send a message. Don't sit idly by while the America Torrington and Litchfield County have worked towards is erased from the history books. Send a message."

There was applause, then the next speaker took the stage.

Mayor's Office, Seattle, Washington

Image

Arlen departed the cab that had left him at Seattle City Hall. He hurriedly walked up the exterior stairs and entered the large building. Once inside the near-empty lobby, Arlen headed towards an elevator taking it to the seventh floor.

He was only in Seattle for one day, before he would head back to Virginia the next morning. His election campaign had not been going that bad, he had been answering the telephones in his campaign headquarters, while also making the occasional visit to homes across Norfolk. However, his campaign manager had been ill for the past few weeks, leaving Arthur and a few PA's to fill the spot themselves. But he had to carry on if he wanted to win the primaries.

As the elevator stopped and the doors opened, Arlen followed the signage towards the Mayor's office.

He approached the office and knocked on the door.

Universal Vet Employment is something that all 3 parties should be able to get behind. One of the greatest responsibilities of the government is to ensure that men and women who served are able to smoothly transition back into civilian life. That starts with making sure that they’ve got access to affordable healthcare and a good paying job. Lets get it done.

"Thank you. I do so enjoy the view." She says taking a moment to look out of the slightly tinted window wall over nighttime Seattle. Instead of sitting down immediately she walks over and pushes the metal cart over to the table. She comes out from behind it and removes the lid and sets it at the bottom of the cart to uncover two plates of Fettuccini with a white sauce and two small salads and a basket of rolls. She places the rolls in the middle of the table then gives one plate and one salad to Arlen and does the same on her side then sits down.
