The word games of statists are just so fun to play. It's not austere to swipe your money out of your pocket and paycheck, but its just awful to make government a little less bloated

Kallie sat down, rubbing her ring. Immediately her mind turned to candy, but she returned to the conversation when the Progressive spoke.

"He is right. We cannot move forward. We agreed to meet in the middle and then we came down. This is a meeting where we will need to compromise, that is the American way."

Congressman Jason Samara
House of Representatives Offices

Jason had been organizing the gun protest outside Smith and Wesson for short while now and it was going fairly well. For the most part he had been making calls and emails but Jared O'Leary had requested to speak about it with him in person. Despite his dislike for Jared personally he was a major advocate for gun control and a visible figure, so Jason didn't want to piss him off or dismiss him.

He arrived outside the office in time for the meeting and addressed the receptionist, "Hello I have an appointment."

Cheap, dirty, political point. We need to move our politics out of trivial matters like percentages of race, we need to move our politics towards making massive change for the people of the USA.

From The Office of Senator-Elect Carter Roberts

To my dearest constituents, friends, allies, and colleagues,

It is with great joy and relief that I thank the American people for their patience and understanding over the past few weeks. I never intended to leave any of you in the dark, but it was necessary due to the gravity of the matter at hand to keep the media as far away from my family as possible. I want to thank all of my colleagues who assisted in giving my campaign the final push it needed to place me in office. But I will address the campaign later, firstly, I would like to shed some light on the reason for my absence.

Two weeks ago, my wife received a call from the United States Embassy in Panama informing her that her younger brother Charles was reported missing. He was with two friends and a translator, attempting to cross the region known as the Darien Gap as part of a journey he was making to accomplish the feat of traveling from Alaska to Argentina by motorcycle. For those who are unaware, the Darien Gap is an area of Panama where there is minimal law enforcement, an area which is mostly ruled by drug cartels and paramilitary groups. This is also the most difficult stretch of Pan-American Highway, an area where the road doesn’t even really exist.

As it turns out, my brother-in-law was kidnapped for a sum of ransom money of $10 million. We later learned that these people apparently thought that I would pay them that, but I was never contacted by anyone.

My wife and I departed to Panama along with several other family members to provide support for the law enforcement and to speak with anyone who may have seen where Charles went. We were there for two weeks. I heard the election results by logging in to the ancient computer in the lobby of the hotel we stayed at.

Charles managed to escape, though badly wounded and malnourished, and was flown to a hospital for treatment, where we stood by his side as he was given multiple surgeries. He recently returned to Connecticut to be home with his wife and daughters.

The reason why I bring this up is not to earn publicity or sympathy. I simply believe in absolute transparency with the people who elected me to serve, and you deserve an explanation for why your Senator-elect disappeared for two weeks. Family comes first at all times, especially when they’re in need. The last thing I wanted was for the media to get ahold of the story, having it rule the news cycle during the final weeks of campaigning. If my celebrity were to cause the media to cling onto this story, I would have felt guilty for exposing friends and family to media attention that they normally would not experience. Out of respect for Charlie’s wife and kids, I did all I could to prevent that from happening. I already felt guilty, as I knew the men who kidnapped my brother-in-law were after my money, and if it weren’t for my public visibility in sports and politics, it’s unlikely any of this would have happened.

I hope this letter has provided the transparency that I have promised throughout my entire campaign and will continue to deliver on in my position as Senator.

I want to thank everyone who helped me win the election. A special thanks to my campaign manager, to my wife, and to the numerous Republican colleagues who endorsed me for their support. I thank Ambassador Singh and Mayor Schmidt for the friendly competition and civil exchange of ideas, and I wish them both the best in their respective endeavors.

I promise to serve with the utmost integrity and boldness in my time as Senator. I pledge to uphold the Constitution as the guiding document of our republic.

I absolutely will do everything I can as Senator to reform education and healthcare, and to bring jobs back to our country. I believe that together, we can build a society that is prepared for the future and honors our past.

Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness. I look forward to serving in the greatest capacity to give the people of Connecticut a strong voice in Washington.

Sincerely,
Senator-Elect Carter Roberts

Carter was alone in DC. Kara had stayed home to spend time with family, so it was Carter alone unloading his SUV and carrying boxes of office supplies and documents in. He not yet had a secretary, nor any staff to speak of.

With the door to his office wide open, hoping to meet anyone who may be his neighbor, he organized the few things he had brought.

"I think you must have just gotten confused with all the back and forth"

"You two said it was settled, not me. I am giving you 4.5% as my final offer. Now before this totally breaks down, we may entertain some proposals about Social Security. There are two suggested by the CRFB for COLAs. I'll read them to you. This is the first one.
'The chained CPI is a price index developed about 15 years ago that many economists say better measures inflation than the current CPI. It grows about 0.25% slower per year on average than the current CPI. Lawmakers adopted the chained CPI for tax provisions in the 2017 tax law. This option would also adopt the chained CPI for Social Security Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) and for other benefit programs that rely on inflation adjustments.' It would save the nation $39 billion a year.
'The Experimental Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E) is a price index that measures inflation experienced by people 62 years or older. It grows about 0.2% faster per year on average than the current CPI. This option would adopt the CPI-E for Social Security COLAs, thus slightly increasing COLAs for all beneficiaries.' It costs $15 billion a year. Those numbers are for the whole country."

Deciding to go for a stroll and get some fresh air Senator Kramer exited the Dirksen Senate Office Building and walk into the Hart Senate Office Building. As he walked by he saw that the door to one of the offices was open and after backtracking recognised that it was the soon to be office of Senator-Elect Roberts and promptly knocked gently upon the door.
