To be fair France wasn't really his fault, he couldn't really do much without involving himself in the first round and that'd be pretty controversial

He could potentially recover from Melenchon's election and keep France in NATO, but knowing Reed's track record he is going to fail

Samara is missing the point, the withdrawal is strategically sound. The fact that Reed implicitly called for a Kurdish referendum is not

Biography:

Emma was born in Oakland, California, the oldest of four. Her mother worked as a housekeeper in some of the more luxurious neighborhoods in the Bay Area while her father slowly scaled the ladder as a community organizer and school teacher. It was a modest living for the Longstones, nothing of extreme comfort though far from the poverty that often surrounded their neighborhood. Her role as caretaker was one she was forced to adopt as the eldest and being a girl at that. She cared for her younger brothers and sister, though when she was 12, her 3-year-old sister died of asthma. It was a loss that devasted her family and led to her mother essentially remaining in solitude and inactive for over a year.

Nonetheless, Emma persisted. Her interest in politics grew alongside her father's ambition. His desire to enter politics was something that inspired her to study politics and then law. San Francisco was also at the center of a number of liberal movements, through civil rights of LGBT, minorities, Asians, and even the homeless as the issue grew and continued until the present day. Her father capitalized on his roots and his education background, to form the foundation for a potential candidate. His opportunity came when the current resigned and he ran, winning unsurprisingly as a Democrat, representing the district for six years. His tenure was marked by many of the liberal reforms that he advocated but no major political achievements.

The family though remained centered in Oakland, with only her father traveling alone to Washington. Her interest in politics shifted soon, as she decided instead to pursue law seeing it as a better stepping stone into a future as a politician. Her public school was far from adequate but with perseverance and a bright mind, she attended Stanford University. Emma made many future friends and it was here where she adopted many of her father's civil rights interests. Her participation in rallies for civil rights and liberties, as well as a campus leader for women, earned her a reputation on the campus. She even became a critic of the Greek System, demanding change and a focus on philanthropy, something that cost her the leadership of the student government. Still, her fierce attitude eventually allowed her to attend law school at Harvard University though she quickly came to dislike the Northeast.

When Emma returned back to California, her family had moved into San Fransisco. Her father's connections and her own friendships from Stanford helped her find temporary work as a Legal Assistant for the Public Advocates, a relatively new group at the time in California. Her focus grew in civil rights, helping champion many key legal victories for educational access for minorities. She continued with key transportation and medical access litigation, helping low-income people gain access and protect their civil rights to have access to affordable and non-discriminating services. It changed her career path, with her work becoming far more embedded in her than her desire to seek office. What had been intended as a short-term job became the start of her career, as she found work at the ACLU of Northern California.

Her twenty-plus years at the ACLU were one where she truly stepped into her own. Rising through the ranks throughout her time, she came to pioneer anti-discrimination lawsuits and legal challenges throughout Northern California. Her work extended towards protecting women's rights to abortion and contraceptives, as well as to support protections for abused women and increase legal repercussions of sexual harassment. Her efforts became well-known as she helped challenge many laws of Hispanic and Latino discrimination, such as upholding sanctuary cities and launching major class-action lawsuits against attempts by the state government to punish such municipalities. Her work to help expand protections and rights of immigrants took a new turn after 9/11, when the ACLU of NorCal made headlines for the decision to target hate crime laws which did not adequately protect Muslims and Arabic populations, a particularly controversial move at the time. Nonetheless, she faced major public perception challenges as she did defend some hate speech proponents, especially on college campuses, arguing free speech and defense of the 1st Amendment. One such trial was of Jacks Karlwitz, a rather racist and visible speaker who she defended after being expelled during a speech at UC Berkley. It gained notable news attention though later on, she admitted to having had personal reservations during the case.

Her eventual leadership of the ACLU also saw her join the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, an organization she used to not only keep track of other efforts by lawyers in the area but help provide a united front for a change. It came due to her father's connections in the area as well, helping make her seem a good fit as SanFran was her home city. Her leadership saw a more outspoken and activist role taken by the Committee, with more involvement across the nation and California in submitting supporting briefs in support of certain positions. She expanded her role with these new positions, seeking to focus on criminal justice as gun violence and black-police conflict rose. Her public statements and legal support against police officers and the internal reviews police departments conducted were a bold move. Furthermore, free speech and voting rights were added into the ACLU NorCal's initiatives, especially as efforts appeared across the country to limit campus free speech, hate speech, and photo ID laws.

In 2016, she resigned from her post due to a high-profile relationship she entered with Scotty Marlowe. It had been something she had been weighing beforehand but it was hardly an easy choice. But with the intention to begin a serious relationship with the man, they decided that it would be for the best but it was made clear that they did intend to not leave politics behind. Though they had met long before, even as he was governor and eventually Attorney-General, even supporting measures by the other, they had kept their relationship a secret for only a year prior. It had begun with going to mutual events together, eventually becoming dates by themselves though they always had a sense of professionalism that proved hard to break. They had met through similar political friends and after being proposition by Scotty to date, they shared dual residences in LA and SanFran, becoming close. Neither had had any significant prior relationships and truly fell in love. Their backgrounds in law also helped spark connections and with Scotty's humor and Emma's long search for enjoyment, it was a perfect match. It did have its issues, as both saw this new beginning with different perspectives, Scotty's being a way to take a step back into personal and private lives with Emma hoping to use it as a way to create a united front for issues and activism. It remained a point of contention until Emma, along with other friends, convinced Scotty to run for Mayor.

But with the relationship soon entering the public eye, she left her position in the ACLU. It was mid-2016 when her father also died though Emma maintained her public appearances following a brief period of mourning. She maintained her chair position of the Lawyers' Committee and remained as a member of the steering committee of the California Civil Rights Coalition, a position she had been given during her tenure as an executive director of the ACLU. She remained a fierce advocate, often acting as the public face of the Coalition and speaking against recent attempts to destroy the progress of LGBT people, women, and the poor across the country. She publically opposed Calvin Reed and in both press conferences and writings for the Coalition and the Committee, she rebuked his policies. She did stop short of endorsing Danders or Walton, though did raise support for Progressive and Democratic candidates across the state.

She has remained an active progressive voice, often supporting liberal candidates in California though this has seen a sharp decline since Scotty's own announcement to run for Mayor of L.A. Having traveled between San Fransico and Los Angeles, she now was more confined to L.A. This is especially true after her pregnancy using reproductive assistance technologies, a costly procedure and one that caused much controversy upon its reveal to the public. Her age complicated matters and forced her out of the public eye for much of early 2017 though, after the birth, she remained healthy without complications, a rare occurrence her doctors said. She remains a supporter of the Democratic Party and with her marriage to Scotty set, she hopes to maintain the pair in the party. Though she has been active in Democratic and Progressive political circles and groups, seeking out noteworthy candidates and political insiders have described her as the ear any liberal candidate wants to have, for both her influence, financial connections, and the Scotty star power she has been known to easily persuade.

Other Info: Her father was a former Representative for the 15th District in California.

I have read and accept the rules of the roleplay: Xathuecia

Her eventual leadership of the ACLU also saw her join the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, an organization she used to not only keep track of other efforts by lawyers in the area but help provide a united front for a change.

Though they had met long before, even as he was governor and eventually Attorney-General, even supporting measures by the other, they had kept their relationship a secret for only a year prior.

Other Info: Her two brothers are currently low-profile Democratic politicians, one is a council member for the city of San Francisco and another is a state representative. Her father was a former Representative for the 15th District in California.
